Vibrant Celebrations: Embracing Vishu - Kerala's Festive Delight
Vishu, a cherished Hindu festival celebrated predominantly in the Indian state of Kerala, heralds the Malayali New Year with joy and enthusiasm. Falling on the first day of the month of Medam in the Malayalam Calendar, which typically aligns with April 14th or 15th in the Gregorian calendar, Vishu embodies a tapestry of rich traditions and symbolic rituals.
At the heart of Vishu lies the Vishukkani, an auspicious sight arranged meticulously the night before. Vishukkani translates to "that which is seen first on Vishu" in Malayalam, symbolizing the belief that encountering auspicious items at the start of the new year portends prosperity and blessings. The Vishukkani setting comprises an array of items, including rice, golden lemon, coconut, jackfruit, and the vibrant golden flowers of the Indian laburnum (Kani Konna), meticulously arranged to invoke abundance and positivity.

As the dawn breaks on Vishu day, families gather to witness the Vishukkani, offering prayers for a prosperous year ahead. Elders light traditional lamps and awaken younger members of the household, who then approach the Vishukkani with eyes closed, symbolizing the act of embracing the new year's abundance with a fresh perspective.
The festivities continue with the Vishu Sadhya, a sumptuous feast featuring traditional delicacies like Vishu Kanji, Thoran, and Vishu Katta. Vishu Kanji, a savory rice porridge prepared with coconut milk and spices, is a staple of the feast, alongside Vishu Katta, a delectable dessert made from freshly harvested rice powder and coconut milk, served with jaggery. Other delights such as Veppampoorasam (bitter neem preparation) and Mampazhappulissery (ripe mango soup) add depth and flavor to the culinary experience.
The jubilation of Vishu extends to customs like bursting firecrackers (Padakkam) and adorning homes with vibrant flower arrangements. The golden shower tree (Konna) blooms during Vishu, adding a splash of color and fragrance to the festivities.
Moreover, Vishu is a time for exchanging gifts and giving alms, embodying the spirit of generosity and community solidarity. Elders bestow Vishukkaineetam, a token amount of money, upon younger members of the family, symbolizing blessings for prosperity and well-being.
In essence, Vishu transcends mere celebration; it is a reflection of Kerala's rich cultural heritage, fostering unity, gratitude, and hope for a promising year ahead. As families come together to revel in the joy of Vishu, they embrace the values of abundance, harmony, and resilience that define this cherished festival.

Whether You’re Celebrating Baisakhi, Bihu, Pohela Boishakh, Or Vishu, We Wish You A Happy New Year. Just as Vishu in Kerala, there are other festivals sharing the same spirit on other parts of India. Celebrated around the same time of year, these festivals mark the new beginning in the locally followed calendars. Ugadhi in Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka, Gudi Padwa in Maharashtra, Bihu in Assam, Baisakhi in Punjab and Pohela Boishakh in Bengal are different celebrations with almost the same significances. Vishu (വിഷു) is a harvest festival primarily celebrated in the Indian state of Kerala. It's observed on the first day of the Medam month (April-May) of the Malayalam Panchang.it is considered as the astrological New Year day. On the Vishu day the Sun enters the Aries Rashi and there is equal amount of day and night time and the Tulu solar month of Paggu from this day. The major events of the day are: Vishukkani: On the dawn of the auspicious day of Vishu, one should see the Vishukkani as the first sight of the New Year, to have a peaceful and prosperous year ahead. Vishukkaineetam: Another important custom of Vishu is #Vishukkaineetam. It is traditionally followed as the gifting of money by the elders to the younger generation or by the landlords to tenants. Vishu Sadya: The Vishu feast or Sadya consists of equal proportions of salty, sweet, sour and bitter items VishuPadakkam: #VishuPadakkam or crackers and lights are an important part of the Vishu celebrations inKerala and add to the glamour and mood of the festivities. The children burst crackers from the morning after seeing the VishuKani and this continues throughout the day. #Vishukaineetam, #vishusadya Vishupadakkam #vishu #Vishukani #lordvishnu #assam #bihu #vihu #kerala #bengalinewyear #jxust #noboborsho #Happy #poilaboishak #bangali #Happiness #kolkata #puthandu #puthanduvazthukal #Vishu #mythologicalfact https://www.instagram.com/p/BwQuY2yAtck/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1tmgz5hb1i2o4

🎉Wish you all a Happy Vishu💥🎊 . . Vishu #Malayalam: വിഷു, is the astronomical new year Hindu festival celebrated in the Indian state of Kerala, Tulunadu region and Kodagu in Karnataka and their diaspora communities. But it is not the new year for keralites as the Malayalam New Year falls on Chingam 1st in the month of August. The festival follows the solar cycle of the lunisolar as the first day of month called Medam. It therefore always falls in the middle of April in the Gregorian calendar on or about 14 April every year. Vishu literally means equal, and in the festival context it connotes the completion of spring equinox. The festival is notable for its solemnity and the general lack of pomp The festival is marked by family time, preparing colorful auspicious items and viewing these as the first thing on the Vishu day. In particular, Iyers and Malayali seek to view the golden blossoms of the Indian laburnum (#Kani_Konna), money or silver items (#Vishukkaineetam), and rice. The day also attracts firework play by children, wearing new clothes (#Puthukodi) and the eating a special meal called #Sadhya, which is a mix of salty, sweet, sour and bitter items. #Vishu Kani, #Vishukkaineetam, #Vishukkanji, #Kani konna, #Vishupadakkam(fireworks),
