There is a lake in Heaven.
Lost among every the myriad of Heavens, unless you know where to look for it. It's quite similar to this one.
At least according to Castiel.
A lake with an eternal sunset that always paints the lapping waves in the water and the forest surrounding it with the same orange and yellow tones that are give it color now. The same breeze that makes the tall grass around it dance slowly. It also has a dock, like the one where they are sitting right now, right at the edge, their feet dangling over the water, shoulders and tights pressed together, Dean's head on Castiel's shoulder, fingers carding slowly through his short hair.
There is even the same mountain behind the lake. So Castiel guesses that, yeah, it must be the same place, loved by someone that wanted to pass their eternity near its water, one he never thought he was going to see again and that they simply found by chance.
Dean looks down at his lap, where both his hands rest, wrapped around one of Castiel's. He woke up today, not for the first time, with that urge to keep Cas close, make sure he is real, still here with him.
And maybe those doubts and fears that have him feeling like this are the same that have him saying,
"Sounds like you've missed it."
Castiel shakes his head, "It wasn't real, just a copy, the Sun didn't felt as warm, the smells weren't as deep and rich as they are here, there was a radio, playing the same songs over and over again, it was another's man paradise." Castiel presses his cheek against the top of Dean's head, "Mine is here, Dean, " he has gotten so much better at reading Dean's mood, at seeing his need for reassurance. It should scare him, the fact he has let him get so close, because if something happened the pain he has felt in the past after losing Cas would be nothing compared to what he would feel now, but he isn't scared, more than anything he feels seen, like never before, understood, without the need for words, and he knows he is one lucky bastard, and he ain't that stupid to push Cas away in order to keep his walls up, " right here with you."
