Mystery Gear weapons are designed for being overanalyzed as symbols. This thing represents Zexion. What’s the red wallpaper imply then, huh? Mr. “Intellectual with no room for feelings”?

i really love your young!ienzo x older sibling!reader reaction, and was wondering how KH3 Ienzo would reaction to seeing the reader again after all the years of him being a nobody?

this is starting to become a series lolol but I’m glad you like it !! I wrote his reaction and some other general headcanons for what would happen after their reunion

 here’s part one and part two for those who haven’t read them! 

The only reason Ienzo hasn’t left Radiant Garden to seek you out is entirely because of Aeleus and Dilan urging him to stay, to pick up the pieces after becoming whole again - and so, he stays to help Sora, comforted by the promise of your return. Still, he’s afraid that you might never come back or that you moved on without him, all while his head races with all the things he wants to share. Ienzo might’ve spent most of his life with the other apprentices, but you’re the one that raised and properly guided him all those years age. You are family. He holds you in extreme high regards.

His reaction to finally seeing you after all those years is ugly, unlike his brief reunion with Ansem the Wise. Ienzo has definitely spent nights writing down a proper and organized speech, he’s memorized it and practiced over and gone through it a dozen times with the others. But when he hears your voice? When he sees you standing righ there? Ienzo drops whatever he’s holding and practically throws himself into your arms. He hides his face in your shirt and starts blabbering nonsense through tears and sniffs.

Any attempts at showing you that he’s grown and matured are thrown out the window and it’s like you guys are children again. The only thing you can make out is his constant stream of "I’m sorry, I’m so sorry” and “Please, forgive me” - Ienzo apologizes for being part of Xehanort’s plan, for working under Xemnas, for pretty much existing as a Nobody when he should’ve disappeared instead. But you remind him that he was just a child when it all happened and that you’re just so happy to have your baby brother back.

That’s all Ienzo needs - it’s like you’ve granted him permission to cry. The transition from Nobody to... Well, himself, has been extremely hard on him. Getting used to feelings and how to process them when he was never taught how to in the first place is pretty fucking hard. You hold him until he stops crying, and then squeeze and sway him side to side, the same thing you used to do to get him to laugh as children.

He would still try to give you his speech a few days later, once he’s gotten over the initial excitement and emotion of having you back in his life. But for now, you’ll have to deal with a very excited Ienzo - he wants to know what you’ve been up to, if you’ve been okay, as well as explain his new plans for the gummiphone and all the way’s he’s been helping Sora and the rest. Ienzo doesn’t follow you around 24/7 like he used to (he actually runs off to find you so you can be the first one to learn about his breakthroughs or to act as his personal rubber duck buddy when he’s stuck) but whenever he walks with you, chances are he’ll still hold onto the hem of your shirt or sleeve.

Sometimes, Ienzo might slip and address you the same way he used to when he was young, with shortened versions of your name because he had trouble pronouncing the full thing - it’s very embarrassing for him, he’ll apologize and quickly move on, but please don’t point it out, especially if you want him to keep doing it because it’s very cute. If you point it out to him, he’ll stop and then everybody loses. Ienzo is trying so hard to not fall back to those childish habits of his </3 

It happens on reverse to, so to speak - there will be days when Ienzo might revert back to that cold, judgemental and quiet side from his days as a Nobody. You might even catch a glimpse of his snarky and downright cruel side, mostly when he goes days working on something without breaks (a nasty habit inherited from Even, deffo). This often causes a lot of arguments between you two, something he comes to regret almost immediately because he’s supposed to be one of the good guys now. He’s supposed to know better now. But when you come back hours later, either acting like nothing wrong happened or to talk things out, Ienzo is so relieved because yeah, this is what family does. Shit like this just happens all the time, it doesn’t mean the end of the world.

i gotta say tho its so much easier to remember and process the plot of kh when youre watching just the cutscenes

so, re:chain of memories, huh?

warning! its been a little while since i played through recom, so the game isnt as fresh in my mind as some others. sorry for any innacuracies!

spoiler alert, this is my second favorite kingdom hearts game. at least of the ones i've played so far. i get that this isn't like. a POPULAR opinion but fuck you i have almost nothing but positives to say about it.

let's start with the easy stuff first. recom introduced a new card-based combat system. i cant compare it to the gba version, since i didn't play that, but i can say that for what its worth i DID enjoy the combat. recom is by far the hardest game so far (at least for me) and almost every boss took multiple days for me to beat, even with my hp maxed out. it took me a while to get the combat system, but id honestly love to replay the game now that i have a better understanding of how it works. the card system requires a lot of quick thinking and i get that it isnt everyones taste but its CERTAINLY mine. every fight is difficult and feels genuinely rewarding when you win. the movement, like kh1, can use a lot of work, but i wouldnt call it terrible. just kinda sluggish. i think my favorite boss fight was larxene. shes a pain in the ass but i love her.

i think riku's side dropping the deck building mechanic isnt terrible, but i wish i could reorder his deck at the very least. and the lack of healing cards is. not fun. basically any damage you take is permanent unless you HAPPEN to get mickey and its simply Not a fun time. im not very good at games okay.

i have a lot less to say about the worlds than the combat. they're definitely the worst aspect of the game, though. the idea of making worlds with cards is fine! it just leads to kind of repetitive world design. the stories are forgettable, so forgettable that i literally forgot them. and i could make a point about how thats the idea its a game all about forgetting things!! but honestly that just making excuses for it. the worlds couldve kept the idea of forgetting things without literally making them forgettable. i say this about every world, except for one. because DESTINY ISLANDS

destiny islands is just. so fucking good in recom. its the climax of both sora and rikus stories and i think theyre both amazing. id have to say i prefer rikus, soley because of the visual storytelling you get from his side of it, and thats not to say soras is bad at all. but something about zexion telling riku that its his fault his home was destroyed, as riku sees a version of himself turning into a literal monster? thats just good okay. its really good.

i ADORE the characters in this game too. everything we get from them is sooo good. it's the introduction to the organization and all of them (except lexaeus who did literally nothing) are a treat. axels my favorite ofc, but larxene is such a fun villain, you love to hate her. shes really the star of the org cast in this game. sure, axels may have said its his show now, but larxene stole the spotlight.

its namines introduction, too, and i love her. on one hand, shes just really kind. she wants a friend, she wants someone to talk to, she wants to meet sora. on the other, shes just a little bit fucked up actually. sure, shes honest with sora, but shes the tiniest little bit guilt trippy and i LOVE THAT. her response to sora saying he wants to get back his own memories and forget her is "oh okay. you want to remember your REAL friends, huh? theyre the ones who REALLY matter to you? yeah anyone would want that. no friends for namine i guess." like shes just a bit salty and we love that for her. i want slightly guilt tripping and salty namine back nomura.

but ofc one of my favorite new characters in this game HAS to be repliku. god i ADORE repliku. his hatred for riku is sooo fun and the way he fights with sora is great too. like in soras side i thought he was a neat villain but rikus side? hes amazing omfg. one of the only villains i liked in rikus story (sorry lexaeus, you werent good until days)

over all, this game certainly isnt everyones cup of tea, but its DEFINITELY mine. it's the game im most excited to replay at some point, mostly because of the amazing boss fights. 9/10. its got issues, but the story and characters are so good that i genuinely could not care less about like. most of them.

KH Weird family reunion au?

hi! me and my friend were watching 358/2 days and talking about how organization 13 would be in a weird little family reunion au. we thought it was pretty funny so here's what we came up with! LOL NO SPOILERS FOR FUTURE GAMES PLEASE. I AM CURRENTLY PLAYING BBS! Xemans - weird estranged rich grandfather. (Demyx calls him peepaw and nearly gets cut out of the will)

Vexen - Wine uncle. who weirdly sometimes gives good life advice.

Zexion - younger brother who doesn't talk to anyone at the gathering. is reading in the corner

Saïx - older brothers ex who is the grandfathers (xemans) fave and gets invited to the family gatherings

Explaining the Riku's Olfactory Sensitivity in CoM: (alt: why my boy was out here sniffing people--an essay.)

So, here's a little essay that no one asked for, but I need to find a way to cope with my fave being cringe, so here it is.

Animals that are nocturnal often have heightened senses to compensate for their forfeited sight.

After being lost in the darkness for so long, Riku's sense of smell became stronger to the point where, once he found his way out of the darkness he was was noticing smells he never noticed before.

He even uses it to his advantage when he can no longer trust what he sees (i.e. namine appearing as Kairi and Zexion and DiZ's illusions). I think that's partially why he where's the blindfold-- to not let his eyes deceive him.

But it's more than just that. Abandoning his sight to rely on his other senses would be in line with the on going Bat symbolism.

Riku has a LOT of bat symbolism. Not just with Kamory Bat and the Dreameater stuff. I mean, obviously, Soul Easter and Way to Dawn feature a bat wing, but why? It's not just because Bats= dark/ spooky/ demons/ etc.

From the start, we see that Riku has incredible hearing as he is depicted eavesdropping on Sora from a distance multiple times.

It's interesting to not that Riku is the only "human" character with seemingly deliberate animal iconography outside of the Foretellers.

In Japenese art and folklore, bats are a symbol of good fortune, and in some cases, even linked with Amaterasu, the Shinto goddess of the sun.

Finally, i know its a bit of a stretch, but Bats are known to make their homes in caves, and there is one cave that we know of in the series, and it just so happens to be quite significant....

Alternatively, Nomura drew some edgey demon wings to aesthetic and said "oh fuck yeah. That looks rad as hell" cause he literally is a 14 year old edge lord.

But the main take away is, having an early 2000s HoT Topic aesthetic does not give you the right to start telling people they smell like darkness.

IENZOOOO MY FUCKED UP LITTLE GUY. Thinking abt him. Rotating him in my mind. SPECIFICALLY. Thinking. About whatever he and Axel have going on.

I JUST THINK. That if a guy I had grown up with in a shitty emotionless cult decided to murder my dad and then me seemingly on a whim in incredibly traumatic ways and then have the AUDACITY to be a rude little bitch to me when we came back from the dead while I was trying to extend an olive branch and answer his questions even though my last memory was of me getting strangled to death while he stared me dead in the eyes and I don’t yet have any answers as to what’s going on, I would simply slaughter him on the spot. but he DIDNT. He was calm & deferential & polite. Weirdly bubbly. And it’s WEIRD they’re WEIRD

I think that Ienzo is trying to play Nice and not step on any light warrior’s toes bc he doesn’t want to die a third time. And Lea is a light warrior now, which automatically means that he is Always Correct and deserves the utmost respect. Clearly he knew something that they didn’t and clearly his murder was justified bc all of them are standing here and alive and whole again and Lea is a light warrior with a key blade. And they need to be careful around him because he can do anything to them and he’d be Right and clearly everything Ienzo thought he knew about Axel-VIII-Lea is Wrong. Obviously. Because zexion thought Axel would never attack him and he was wrong about that. And. Sora mowed them down incredibly quickly, as did Riku. So. Play nice, keep your life. Right.

I think he thinks he and his family are at the mercy of the light warriors because why wouldn’t he. He grew up in a cult where the most powerful members were the ones in charge. Where the leader was the most powerful of all because he had a key blade that he used ON IENZO. When he was a KID. You stick around until you’re not useful anymore and then youre eliminated and no one cares because they can’t. He thinks that every relationship is built on exchanges.

He’s trying very very hard to be Good but he has NO IDEA what good even constitutes and he’s starting from the premise that there is something fundamentally Wrong and monstrous with him. And there are Reasons for that and they mostly have to do with the apprentices and specifically aeleus but if we were to talk about all the issues I think this kid has we would be here all year. SO.

Do not get me started on my Thoughts abt his relationships with Isa & Xemnas & braig & the other apprentices

Okay. So Sora was convinced that Riku hated him and decided to ask Riku out as a way to piss him off. But oopsies, Riku is just Bad At Emotion and is actually super into Sora and then Sora feels bad and can't break up with him because then he'll feel like an asshole.

Then they have sex (with dubious consent because Sora's not really into it but doesn't want to give up the jig and Riku is just like "so nice the guy I love loves me back ❤️") and there's a scene I distinctly remember where they're in a dorm room and they've somehow ended up on the floor on opposite sides of the bed talking to each other and Riku reaches out and pulls Sora under the bed to his side so he can hug him. This baffled me at 12. Beds are too low for that??? And now at 27 having been to college and used a stepstool to get into my twin xl, makes sense.

Anyway, twin brother Roxas eventually gets tired of Sora's hole that he's dug for himself and in the dining hall is like "fuck you, he never liked you, never has, move on so he can too." Riku like has a panic attack thinking back over everything they've done together and is convinced he unknowingly assaulted Sora. They finally sit down and sort out their feelings and turns out Sora actually really does like him! Aww

Also, Demyx was their older brother who was dating Zexion and at one point the two had broken the dining room table by fucking on it.

And this randomly pops in my head every once and a while. It's been 15 years.

i’m CONVINCED what zexion said to riku as sora this still haunts riku to this day. it wasn’t even sora who said all that, but i’m sure the fear of how it played out in com actually playing out with the real sora scared riku to death. the fear of this happening led to him walking away from sora first, not even giving him the chance just in case there was a repeat scenario. sure, there was a lot of self hatred and feeling like he didn’t deserve to see sora as well, but the look on riku’s face tells you that this scarred him. this was his biggest fear. he rather fade to darkness and than go through this again and isn’t even willing to risk that it could go another way.

anyway, this is just context for what i actually want to talk about lmao

so this is probably one of worst moments for riku right? utterly rejected by his best friend and now that friend was willing to kill him for who he is now. and it wasn’t even real.

but you know who that was real for? sora. in hollow bastion. utterly rejected by riku. his only means of defense taken, basically left to die. and then riku fought him tooth and nail until he lost and sora let him run away.

you know who got closure for their version of this scene? riku. he got it when sora fell to the ground on his knees in the world that never was, when he said he looked everywhere for him and told him he was still riku no matter what. sora told him exactly what he needed to hear to reassure him that sora didn’t think any of things riku feared he did. sora telling him specifically that he was still riku no matter what showed riku that sora stills wants him around. even if he looks like their enemy and even if he did some real awful things, he’s still riku and that’s enough. riku as he is is enough for sora. always has been.

you know who never got anything like that? sora. in fact, the conclusion that sora found to get him through is that he’s not enough. his friends are his power. alone, he has no strength. he only made it through by relying on a complete stranger he managed to befriend. if beast wasn’t there or if he refused to go with sora, would he have survived? he had magic but that would run out eventually. would he have even made it to the room he fights riku in?

i don’t think he thinks he would’ve. in kh3, he says alone, he’s worthless. he’s held that sentiment this entire time. no one told him otherwise. (until riku’s sacrifice but it’s murky about whether sora even remembers that at this point. but even if he does, it wasn’t like the scene in the world that never was. sora was able to dictate exactly what riku needed to hear with no imminent threat and riku was not emotionally compromised like sora was in the keyblade graveyard. riku was able to process everything sora said. that is a far cry to sora screaming in agony over all his friends dying, sora believing wholeheartedly that he's nothing without them, and riku just saying he believes in him. sure, thats what sora needed in that moment to save everyone, but it's not a response to his fears and insecurities established in kh1 like how what sora says to riku is a response to his fears and insecurities established in com.)

at this point, i think it’s obvious that sora knows riku’s changed from kh1 and that he doesn’t believe the same things. sora knows he cares based on his actions and how he saved him too and we know as an audience how dedicated he is to him. but it fucks me up to think that riku got that verbal closure while sora never did. that riku got to start healing from that awful moment but sora really never did.

just,,,, please please please please let them talk about what happened in kh1 i am on my knees begging

extra thoughts: didn’t think of this at first so sorry it’s a little disconnected, but maybe the reason riku is so horrified in that moment in com is because he realizes this is what he put sora through. maybe he made this connection himself and feeling what it was like to be on the other side of it, on sora’s side, horrified him. what’s worse, in riku’s mind, is that riku deserves to be in this position and deserves to be rejected due to his past actions. but sora never deserved it. maybe that contributed to why the self loathing spiral got worse after com.

Of all the things he could be accused of, of all the things he was doing wrong here, was the trespassing his greatest sin? That just fucking figured.

"You don't know who I am, do you?" So did that, actually. Nobody knew him. He was a shadow, a figment, barely a creature, a literal Nobody, and yet... He still felt very, very real.

"I suppose that's to be expected." His voice dropped conspiratorially, "Our reports show that this world is inhabited but not yet visited by the Organization as of yet. I suppose it would follow that you wouldn't understand my being here."

Standing up straight, he flicked his fringe out of his face and set his shoulders back. Thrusting out a hand, he offered what he hoped was a kind smile. Judging by how he felt his face moving, it was more of a grimace than anything else.

"Well, you may call me Zexion, and suffice it to say, I'm not from around here."

Zexion convinces Vexen to get a 3D printer "for the lab" what are the org's reactions? What do they try to get printed?

Xigbar: "We're printing sex toys."

Lexaeus: "No the fuck we aren't."

It kind of descends into chaos almost immediately, tbh. This is how Zexion convinces Vexen and Xemnas: 1) it will save them trips to the hardware store, 2) everyone can use it for their own purposes so it will pretty much pay for itself over time, 3) it's going to help them keep things in order, 4) it will make everything more efficient and accessible, and 5) he won't ask for anything else ever again.

Of course, number 5 is a complete lie and he won't be using the printer for business purposes 99% of the time, but honestly?? Who cares? It's a good investment.

And to be fair, it really is used for good things. Marluxia makes a few flower pots for his garden and Vexen makes tools for his lab and Xemnas makes a damn organizer for his desk and it's all well and good for a while. Zexion makes some cool bookends; Larxene makes something for the training room. It's all good. It's useful.

But like. There are some that think that the machine isn't living up to its full potential. So Xion and Roxas take it upon themselves to sneak into the lab one night and make a giant statue of a baby cow. No reason. Just because they can and Xion wants one for her room.

Xemnas, pinching the bridge of his nose against an ongoing headache: "Okay, but why a baby cow?"

Xion: "Why NOT a baby cow???"

And now it's a free for all, because Demyx finds out about the baby cow statue and wants to use the printer, which makes Xigbar outraged because he wants to use the printer. So now it's basically, whoever gets to it first gets to use it. If you stop the printer while it's still in production, you get stabbed (Xigbar still has the wound to prove it.)

Some things that may or may not have been printed with the 3D printer without Xemnas or Vexen's approval: a tiny catapult, a popcorn bowl shaped like Axel's head, a triangle block of swiss cheese, a tiny toaster, a replica of Michelangelo's David where the penis has been replaced by an cob of corn, and two dozen miniature rainbow ducks that Xion likes to hide around the castle for people to find randomly.
