Dr Jiminy part 3;
Tumblr media
Summary; in which Jiminy Cricket has a show like Dr Phil that also does parentity testing. Trigger warning; child abuse, guns, death threats, and a broken marriage. Swearing. Part 1 can be found here and part 2 can be found here. Requested by @idontliketomatoesleavemealone and @cleverqueenchild . Hope you enjoy.
🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️
Dr Jiminy: Hello, all my crickets. Today we have two very special guests. Mulan.....and SHANG!
*Mulan and Shang enter from behind the curtains and take a seat on the couch*
Dr Jiminy *shakes their hands* How ya doing Shang? Mulan. Lovely to see you again. Now it's come to my understanding that you want to do a DNA test on your youngest, Lonnie?
Shang: That's right.
Mulan *nods*
Dr Jiminy: May I ask why that is? You both seem rather calm about this considering most people only come for DNA tests when the topic of cheating is involved.
Mulan: Oh no, we're not here because he thinks I cheated.
Shang: Which, for the record, I don't believe.
Dr Jiminy: oh?
Mulan: Yeah, we're actually here because we want to shut down the rumors and weirdness around people not believing that Shang is Lonnie's father.
Dr Jiminy: O-oh. *mutters* Well, that's a new one. *speaks up* Well, I have the results right here in this envelope. Are you ready?
Shang *grumbles* as ready as I'll ever be.
Mulan: More ready than I have ever been for anything else in my entire life.
*picture of Lonnie in her pjs in the kitchen, smiling pops up*
Dr Jiminy *opens the envelope * In the case of 16 year old, Li Lan-Lei (Lonnie), Shang.... you.. ARE THE FATHER!
Shang: I KNEW IT!
Crowd: OOOOOOOOOH!!!!!!!!
Mulan: WE TOLD YOU SO!
Crowd *looks sheepish*
🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️
Dr Jiminy: Lady Tremaine, is it true that when you found out your grandson, Anthony, was dating Harriet, you called him a moron and her a hussy?
Lady Tremaine: It is and I would do it AGAIN!
*crowd gasps*
Harriet* runs out from behind stage* SAY THAT TO MY FACE, YOU BITCH!
Dr Jiminy: Uh oh. SECURITY!
Harriet *lunges*
Anthony *back stage, mortified and covering Dizzy's eyes* Note to self, never invite grandmother to Holiday gatherings.
🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️
Dr Jiminy: Now, Queen Aurora. King Philip. What do you have to say against the accusations that have been leveled against you by your daughter?
Philip, defensive: Okay, so we weren't the most attentive parents but we aren't neglective!
Aurora, quiet: Neglective is a rather strong word for it.
Dr Jiminy: Then what would you call *checks notes* only seeing your daughter during holidays and big royal events?
Philip *dryly* Being a busy royal.
Crowd *starts booing*
Philip *stands up* WHY ARE YOU BOOING ME? I'M RIGHT!
Aurora: She was with family!
Dr Jiminy *looking disappointed* that doesn't make you any less neglective for not playing a bigger part in her life. She's your only child.
Crowd *booing louder and start throwing things*
🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️
Dr Jiminy: Mr Clayton. Is it true that you shot at your son six times last month?
William Clayton: He's being a baby! It was only 3!I wouldn't waste that much amo on him in a month.
Clay *yelling from behind stage* You shot at me six times in one day once!
William: BECAUSE YOU WERE BEING ANNOYING! EVEN YOUR YOUNGER BROTHERS AREN'T THAT ANNOYING!
William's sister, Lady Waltham, busts out from behind the curtains: YOU WHAT?! I'LL KILL YOU!
William: oh shit *bolts*
Lady Waltham *chases him*GET BACK HERE AND TAKE YOUR PUNISHMENT LIKE A MAN!
Dr Jiminy: Oh dear.
Cash Clayton, 10: Should we stop her? Could we even stop her?
Clay, 18: GO AUNT MANDY! GO! KICK HIS ASS!
Wilson 'Will' Clayton, 12: I'll take that as a no...

What Does Future State Mean for the DC Universe?
https://ift.tt/eA8V8J
It’s somehow almost 2021, which means the DC Universe is about to enter its Future State, the big two month crossover that kicks off the new year by pausing its regular line, and diving deep into the wild, varied timelines and parallel universes for new angles from fresh creators. And we are happy to have your exclusive first look at the February covers and solicitations for the Justice League family of books.
Since half the fun of solicits is trying to piece together what’s happening in the book from the 50 words and a cover, we decided to engage in some wild, semi-informed speculation on what might be coming from DC’s event.
Let’s get right to it: Future State has a very strong Seven Soldiers of Victory vibe.
The original Seven Soldiers were briefly a superteam from the ’40s, brought back sporadically whenever a comic needed a nostalgia boost, until Grant Morrison got his hands on them in the mid-aughts. He and some of the most brilliant artists of the era (Frazer Irving, JH Williams III, Ryan Sook, Doug Mahnke and more) put together a superteam crossover where a group of B and C list heroes stop evil faerie invaders from the future, come to harvest humanity. Also the heroes never meet. The climax is a series of brilliantly planned coincidences where the heroes just barely cross paths, or set up one accident that places the final blow just in time. It’s a superheroic Rube Goldberg machine.
The inciting events of each Future State book are all vastly different on their faces, but point to a more systemic collapse of something within DC’s multiverse/hypertime that could take a series of happy accidents to fix. The Speed Force and the Central Power Battery both go haywire at the same time. Something is different about dimensional barriers in Aquaman and Justice League – we’ve got a mystery Batman, a multiversal Flash, and an interdimensional hole in the ocean in Aquaman. The next generation of heroes are falling apart in Shazam and Teen Titans, and Amanda Waller has gone off the deep end in Suicide Squad. And it looks like magic users are hunted to a dangerous level between the Justice League Dark story and Swamp Thing.
The Black Adam One Million story feels like where something like a 7S conclusion might take place. It got a pretty strong push when we talked to Justice League group editor Alex Carr back in October, and that far in the futue, Adam might have the perspective and the means to nudge a couple of things into place in the past to try and set the multiverse right.
Finally, we’ll talk a bit about variant covers. That Red X cover, if conventions ever come back, is going to make Dustin Nguyen a substantial sum of money. The Future State Green Lantern variant will also likely bring in some cash for Jamal Campbell, but from a very different crowd. The kind of folks who are interested in hot G’Nortt original art. I don’t think I’m ever going to be able to unsee that.
Now, let’s take a look at the goods, including one quietly disturbing variant cover:
FUTURE STATE: AQUAMAN #2 written by BRANDON THOMAS art and cover by DANIEL SAMPERE card stock variant cover by KHARY RANDOLPH ON SALE 2/23/21 $3.99 US | 32 PAGES | 2 OF 2 | FC | DC CARD STOCK COVER $4.99 US
“Andy Curry, daughter of Arthur and Mera, has had a pretty terrible month. Jackson Hyde, a.k.a. Aquaman, won’t stop calling her Aqualass when she’s told him a thousand times it’s Aquawoman. She’s manifested a new power that scares the absolute hell out of her. Oh, and she and Jackson just got ripped apart in the midst of a cosmic space ocean and she can’t find him anywhere! For the first time in her 14 years, Andy’s all alone—and it’s gonna take her wits, her will, and every single lesson Jackson ever taught her to survive.”
FUTURE STATE: THE FLASH #2 written by BRANDON VIETTI art and cover by BRANDON PETERSON card stock variant cover by KAARE ANDREWS ON SALE 2/2/21 $3.99 US | 32 PAGES | 2 OF 2 | FC | DC CARD STOCK COVER $4.99 US
“All hope is lost as Barry Allen races to save his former partner, Wally West. Armed with the  weapons of the Rogues who once tried to destroy the Flash, Barry plots an attack that’ll either free the former Kid Flash from the evil that’s possessed him—or end his threat forever!”

“Outnumbered but never outwitted or outfought, John Stewart leads the last of the Green Lanterns against insurmountable odds. Facing a bloodthirsty Khund cult dedicated to the “God in Red,” the onetime Green Lantern shows that even without a ring or the Corps to back him up, he’s still a force to be reckoned with! Plus, from the pages of Young Justice, Teen Lantern teams up with Mogo, and Hal Jordan reconnects with Oliver Queen after the power battery goes down!”
FUTURE STATE: JUSTICE LEAGUE #2 “Justice League” written by JOSHUA WILLIAMSON “Justice League” art by ROBSON ROCHA and DANIEL HENRIQUES “Justice League Dark” written by RAM V “Justice League Dark” art by MARCIO TAKARA cover by DAN MORA card stock variant cover by KAEL NGU ON SALE 2/9/21 $5.99 US | 48 PAGES | 2 of 2 | FC | DC CARD STOCK VARIANT COVER $6.99 US
“Exiled to a distant planet, the Justice League suspects an impostor in their midst, but not even the next Batman or Green Lantern can find the clues they’re looking for. Meanwhile on Earth, the terrifying return of a classic Justice League villain may spell doom for the planet! Doppelgängers abound, paranoia runs rampant, and only the Justice League can save humanity—if they can ever find their way home.”
“Plus, all the world’s terrible truths are revealed as the Justice League Dark make their last stand. Hunted, beaten, and harvested for their magic, Zatanna, John Constantine, Detective Chimp, Ragman, Madame Xanadu, and Etrigan all unleash a desperate plan that could destroy them—but is it worth the cost to finish Mad Merlin and his mysterious Knights? Only Doctor Fate knows, and the truth may spell hope or doom!”

As lives are lost and blood is spilled, the fate of the Multiverse will be decided by Superman! Also in this issue, the 853rd Century is burning, and only Black Adam can save reality from the onslaught of murderous rage from a new threat spawned from a former hero.”

But Swamp Thing, too, harbors a secret—one he must reveal in order to restore peace to the planet once again. But it will cost him everything he has.

Naming background vks redone;
I looked back on my old renaming of background vks and decided to redo it because of all the age/spelling mistakes I made .
And no. I couldn't just edit it unfortunately since I reblogged it and deleted the original. So this is necessary.
Enjoy.

off the rack #1315
Monday, March 1, 2021
Hi folks. Long time no write.
I have been mostly isolating at home during the pandemic trying to keep myself and my family safe from Covid-19. I do go out and walk around our neighbourhood to get fresh air and exercise. I don't wear a mask outdoors like I do when I absolutely have to go into somewhere other people will be, like the drug store or my dentist's office. I get anxious when people come too close to me masked or not, but I also get angry when there is plenty of space to keep a safe distance and people don't move away. I have verbally admonished someone for being too close but have decided that I will keep my big mouth shut from now on and just get away from them myself. I don't know if I can keep my trap shut if I was confronted by the guy my brother did at work. This young guy came into the liquor store wearing a mask with a swastika on it. That would make me very angry. Angry enough to confront him? I don't know. I would like to be brave enough to ask him "are you for real with that mask?". Or "are you a Nazi?"…"you know the Nazis lost, right?". My brother would not serve him. It could have been worse though. That racist could have gone through his check-out without that ugly symbol on his mask and he wouldn't have known he was serving a bigot. I think it's better when you see them coming.
My thanks to Doug for lending me his comic books to read.
Daredevil #26 - Chip Zdarsky (writer) Marco Checchetto (art) with Mike Hawthorne (pencils) Adriano Di Benedetto (inks) Marcio Menyz (colours) VC's Clayton Cowles (letters). This book may have been put into Doug's sub my mistake but it gave me a chance to catch up with what's happening with the Man Without Fear. This is part 1 of "The Black Kitchen" which ties into Marvel's "King in Black" mega event. Knull is now on Earth and is wreaking havoc. Kinda reminds me of the "Maximum Carnage" event back when I was reading on the regular. Here we have Venom symbiotes running amok in Hell's Kitchen. What I found interesting was the current situations of the main characters. Matt is in prison after being convicted of murder. He can still wear his mask to conceal his secret identity inside. Not true to life but hey, it's comic books. Elektra is now protecting Matt's turf as Daredevil and she's got super scary horns. Wilson Fisk is still mayor with Typhoid Mary as his head of security now. The big shocking ending is that symbiotes get into the prison and one bonds with Matt. Another symbiote bonds with Mary and she attacks Elektra. This sets up overwhelming odds for the good guys as any good comic book will do. Stay tuned.
Action Comics #1028 - Brian Michael Bendis (writer) John Romita Jr. (pencils) Klaus Janson (inks) Brad Anderson (colours) Dave Sharpe (letters). Bendis closes out his run on this title with so much schmaltz you're going to need a shovel to get through it. Jimmy Olsen is the new owner of the Daily Planet. What the nique? Conner Kent goes to the farm team. Jonathan Kent goes back to the future and the Legion of Super-Heroes. I don't know if a new art team is going to come on board but I sure hope so.
Detective Comics #1033 - Peter J. Tomasi (writer) Brad Walker (pencils) Andrew Hennessy (inks) Dave McCaig (colours) Rob Leigh (letters). The art on the first page with Batman and Robin tumbling in the foreground with flashback panels behind gave me goosebumps. It's why I will always love reading comic books. Batman beats Hush by giving him a good old fashioned beat down. The rest of the Bat Family is saved and Bruce can take a breather. Now that the Wayne fortune is lost to him I'm curious to see where Bruce ends up after he moves out of the mansion.
Batman/Catwoman #2 - Tom King (writer) Clay Mann (art) Tomeu Morey (colours) Clayton Cowles (letters). The jumping back and forth in time is a little confusing for me but I really like this Black Label story. The relationship between these lovers is more than complicated especially where the Joker is involved.
DC kicks off 2021 with a plethora of comic books taking their characters 10 years into the future with their "Future State" event. Doug decided to check out the following.
Future State: Superman vs. Imperious Lex #1 - Mark Russell (writer) Steve Pugh (art) Romulo Fajardo Jr. (colours) Carlos M. Mangual (letters). The story opens with a meeting of the United Planets inner circle. They are debating the inclusion of the planet Lexor which is lorded over by Lex Luthor, the supreme anal pore that we all know and loathe. Lois Lane is Earth's representative and she votes to reject Lexor's membership until Superman lobbies to allow his arch foe's planet to join so that the poor inhabitants don't suffer from Lex's villainous ways. It's a morality tale of Unity, Progress and Compassion.
Future State: Robin Eternal #1 - Meghan Fitzmartin (writer) Eddy Barrows (pencils) Eber Ferreira (inks) Adriano Lucas (colours) Pat Brosseau (letters). In this future Gotham City the Bat Family has been decimated. Bruce is dead, Dick is in Arkham and Jason now works for the law enforcement agency that killed Batman. No mention of where Damian is. I have a feeling that the son of Bruce will show up later as a big surprise. Tim's the last man standing and he's vowed to continue the tradition of keeping Gotham safe. Too bad he doesn't live long fighting against the super cybers. The last panel reveals why this book is called Robin Eternal. Hint: the Lazarus Pits are involved.
Superman: Worlds of War #1 -  This $7.99 US anthology of four stories starts off on Earth and ends up on Warworld.
"The Many Lives of Clark Kent" by Phillip Kennedy Johnson (writer) Mikel Janin (art) Jordie Bellaire (colours) & Dave Sharpe (letters) is my favourite one simply because I loved the art so much. This is where we find out why Superman is missing from Earth.
"Time and Effect" by Brandon Easton (writer) Valentine De Landro (art) Marissa Louise (colours) & Dave Sharpe (letters) features the new Mister Miracle poking around Warworld. Why? We don't know. Guess we'll find out if we keep reading.
"Midnighter: Future State" by Becky Cloonan & Michael W. Conrad (writers) Gleb Melnikov (art) Jordie Bellaire (colours) Travis Lanham (letters) has Midnighter running around creating a bloody mess everywhere. It could have just as easily been Lobo or Wolverine in this piece.
Finally "Do Not Go Gently" by Jeremy Adams (writer) Siyam Oum (art) Hi-Fi (colours) Gabriela Downie (letters) features the new Black Racer trying to free the slave labour on Warworld. Unless you're a Jack Kirby Forever People fan you wouldn't care.
As a fan of Mikel Janin's art I would have felt ripped off having to pay for the three fillers in this comic book just to have his work in my collection.
Future State: Catwoman #1 - Ram V (writer) Otto Schmidt (art) Tom Napolitano (letters). Selina is still Catwoman ten years down the line as she attempts to rescue Gotham City citizens being transported to a reformatory by train. Similarities to Nazi behaviour is an easy way to make the bad guys evil. All the previous Batman related Future State books say that Batman is dead but this one has a surprise at the end. Hey, it's Bruce in shackles.
Future State: Dark Detective #1 - Mariko Tamaki (writer) Dan Mora (art) Jordie Bellaire (colours) Aditya Bidikar (letters). This title blows the whole Bruce/Batman is dead plot device clear out of the water. I can see why the bad guys controlling Gotham City wants the populace to think that, but how are they going to keep up the charade when Batman is clearly running around fighting crime? I like that Batman has lost the cape in this one. This $5.99 US book has a back-up story by Matthew Rosenberg (writer) Carmine Di Giandomenico (art) Antonio Fabela (colours) & AndWorld Design (letters) that I liked even more than the feature. It follows Cole Cash AKA Grifter as he tries to dodge the law. He gets arrested and meets up with Luke Fox AKA Batwing and a whole lot of fun ensues. The Huntress showing up at the end makes this more appealing.
Future State: Dark Detective #2 - Mariko Tamaki (writer) Dan Mora (art) Jordie Bellaire (colours) Aditya Bidikar (letters). This issue explains how Bruce Wayne/Batman "dies" and how Bruce continues to fight crime. I was disappointed that the back-up story didn't follow up on Grifter and Huntress but was a different story about Jason Todd/the Red Hood now working for the bad guys as a bounty hunter capturing masked vigilantes. It starts with him bringing in the Vigilante and ends with him teaming up with a ruthless Ravager to stop an old school Red Hood gang leader stealing from the rich to give to the poor. Rose has no qualms about killing their bounties but Jason brings them in alive, that's why their nickname is "dead or alive". Har. I like Jason's Akira bike.

Here’s where the AFC East race stands after Tom Brady’s exit
Tumblr media
Josh Allen and the Bills will be trying to leap over the Patriots in the AFC East.
Is 2020 the year the Bills — or someone else — dethrone the Patriots?
The Bills are going for it. Months after wrapping their most successful season of the millennium, Buffalo has cashed in its assets to build a championship-caliber roster. Head coach Sean McDermott has a stellar defense, a budding offense, and a heady blend of veterans and prospects capable of doing what no team has done since 2008: dethrone the Patriots atop the AFC East.
While it’s entirely too early to bury Bill Belichick, a busy start to the 2020 offseason has set up the most compelling race the division’s seen in more than a decade. New England stands at the precipice of a new era now that Tom Brady signed with the Buccaneers.
The Bills are first in line when it comes to beneficiaries from any Patriots downturn, but they aren’t alone. The Dolphins built off last year’s better-than-expected campaign with a handful of splashy moves. The Jets added talent as well, though whether or not Adam Gase can do anything with it remains to be seen.
So what does the AFC East look like following a burst of free agent activity but before the 2020 NFL Draft? The Patriots get the benefit of the doubt in the division’s top spot — but the teams that were once firmly in their rear view now threaten to pull up alongside them.
1. New England Patriots
Key additions: Beau Allen, Damiere Byrd, Adrian Phillips, Brandon Copeland
Notable losses: Tom Brady, Kyle Van Noy, Jamie Collins, Danny Shelton, Duron Harmon, Ted Karras, Nate Ebner, Stephen Gostkowski
The Pats are the favorites until proven otherwise, but New England may have just gone from the division’s best quarterback situation to its worst. Brady’s move to Tampa leaves the team’s current QB depth chart in some order of Jarrett Stidham, Cody Kessler, and, once again, Brian Hoyer.
Brady struggled with an underwhelming cast of targets last season. So far, head coach and general manager Bill Belichick has done little to fix that, with Byrd as the only new face. His 32 catches last season with the Cardinals were a career high by a mile.
Whomever takes the reins at quarterback will have to hope 2019 additions N’Keal Harry and Mohamed Sanu improve. With limited spending room thanks to the $13.5 million in dead cap Brady left behind, any major upgrades will likely have to come in the draft — where the Patriots have four of the top 100 picks, but no second-rounder due to last year’s Sanu trade.
Furthermore, several stars from 2019’s top-ranked defense have departed. Van Noy, Collins, and Shelton all rebounded from bad situations elsewhere to become key contributors in Foxborough. Now they’ve cashed in that vested stock for raises, leaving gaps in a sturdy-but-aging defense. Low-recognition signees like Allen, Phillips, and Copeland will try to boost their reputations in these openings, but none are a surefire bet.
Still, the Patriots have most of the parts of a championship defense under contract — like Devin McCourty, Dont’a Hightower, and reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year Stephon Gilmore. Last year proved they could win 12 games (albeit against a relatively soft schedule) with a quarterback who ranked 18th among qualified starters in passer rating. All Belichick may need to win the AFC East for the 13th season in a row is a competent QB — even if the rest of the division is gunning for him harder than ever.
2. Buffalo Bills
Key additions: Stefon Diggs, Mario Addison, Vernon Butler, A.J. Klein, Daryl Williams, Quinton Jefferson, Tyler Matakevich, Josh Norman
Notable losses: Jordan Phillips, Shaq Lawson, Kevin Johnson
The Bills took full advantage of New England’s weakened grasp on the division by acquiring a wide receiver capable of speeding Josh Allen’s development. Diggs wasn’t a cheap addition; Buffalo shipped first-, fourth-, fifth-, and sixth-round picks for the Pro Bowl wideout and a seventh-rounder. But he’s coming off the best season of his career, is 26 years old, and is under contract for the next four seasons as a reasonable average salary of just under $12 million. He fills an immediate need and will assume the essential role of “guy who chases down Allen’s sorta-accurate bombs.”
Buffalo also did a good job filling the roles vacated by its two biggest free agent departures. Phillips had a breakthrough 2019, but his 9.5-sack season — he had 5.5 the previous four years — was likely unsustainable. Rather than pay big to retain him, the Bills will replace his impact with a combination of 2019 first-round pick Ed Oliver and free agent signees Butler and Jefferson.
The same goes for Lawson, whose edge-rushing duties will fall, in part, to veteran addition Addison. Those free agents will bring immediate production to the NFL’s sixth-most efficient defense, per Football Outsiders’ DVOA metric.
Former Carolina tackle Daryl Williams provides the experience necessary to let Cody Ford develop at his own pace at guard, or move inside should Ford be ready to hold down the right tackle spot. A deep well of draft talent should allow the club to pick up another pocket protector despite its lack of a first-round pick as well.
Whether or not the Bills can roll that momentum into a division title may hinge on whether Allen can continue his growth as a quarterback. This is still shaping up to be the best team Buffalo’s had since Jim Kelly was taking snaps.
3. Miami Dolphins
Key additions: Byron Jones, Kyle Van Noy, Shaq Lawson, Emmanuel Ogbah, Ereck Flowers, Ted Karras, Jordan Howard, Kamu Grugier-Hill, Clayton Fejedelem
Notable losses: none, so far
The Dolphins spent 2019 shipping out talent; 2020 has been all about reloading. Miami has handed out more than $233 million in contracts to lure other team’s free agents to Florida, rebuilding a defense that ranked dead last in efficiency last fall (by a large margin!) in the process.
Head coach Brian Flores is following the same blueprint his former employers did in New England by making his secondary the strength of his defense. Jones didn’t come cheaply at five years and $82.5 million, but he’ll team with Xavien Howard to give the Dolphins arguably the league’s top one-two punch at CB. Things aren’t as stable at safety, but signing Van Noy, Lawson, and Ogbah (18.5 sacks, 44 QB hits between them in 2019) will bring added pressure.
Miami’s offense remains a writhing ball of questions, starting at quarterback. Ryan Fitzpatrick rode his typical roller coaster between under- and overachievement last season, but he’ll give way to whichever rookie quarterback the team drafts this spring — whether that’s in Week 1, Week 8, or even in 2021. They’ll have a lineup of young skill players to target as well: DeVante Parker (recently extended in the midst of a 1,200-yard season), Mike Gesicki, Albert Wilson, and Howard are all under contract for 2020.
The Dolphins are still likely a year away from contention, but it’s not difficult to see the improvements they have made. We haven’t even gotten to the draft, where they will have three first-round picks, five of the first 56 selections, and 14 picks total. Miami still has plenty of room to add playmakers and the salary cap space to flip one or more of those picks for veteran help.
4. New York Jets
Key additions: George Fant, Connor McGovern, Greg Van Roten, Patrick Onwuasor, Pierre Desir, Breshad Perriman
Notable losses: Robby Anderson, Brandon Shell, Maurice Canady, Brandon Copeland, Brett Qvale, Tom Compton
Make no mistake: this offseason is all about giving Sam Darnold the tools to make the leap. After focusing on big-name defensive talent last spring, New York has moved its 2020 chess pieces to provide a clean path of attack. Fant, Van Roten, and McGovern will help overhaul a line that allowed the blossoming QB to be sacked 33 times in 13 games last season.
Perriman will be counted on to replace the mercurial Anderson as a deep threat. That will help reinforce the Jets’ existing playmaking infrastructure, which includes Le’Veon Bell (who averaged a career-low 3.2 yards per carry in 2019), Jamison Crowder, and ... huh, I guess that’s about it. That can be addressed with the No. 11 pick in the draft, which is stacked with stellar wideouts.
New York’s current lineup of free agent help are all useful, if unspectacular additions. There’s nothing here that suggests it will be enough to spark a turnaround. The Jets were worse than their 7-9 record would lead you to believe, losing games to then-winless teams in the Dolphins and Bengals in 2019. Head coach Adam Gase has done nothing to earn the team’s trust, especially after his former charges in Miami have often soared after escaping his influence (Parker, Jarvis Landry, Kenyan Drake, and, most of all, Ryan Tannehill).
New York has the talent to make a run. Unfortunately, a good chunk of the Gase experience so far has been creating a product that’s less than the sum of its parts.

This SEC panel has a problem with Snap’s IPO
Tumblr media
Members of an influential institutional investor advisory group are scheduled next week to put a spotlight on shareholder concerns around the non-voting share structure embedded in Thursday's highly anticipated IPO.
By Ron Orol
Members of an influential institutional investor advisory group that meets at the Securities and Exchange Commission are scheduled next week to put a spotlight on growing shareholder concerns around the non-voting share structure embedded in Snap Inc.'s (SNAP) initial public offering.
At issue are investor worries that Snap, the developer of the popular disappearing-message app Snapchat, will be impervious to activist institutions or hedge funds at its gate because its board makeup will be controlled primarily by co-founders Evan Spiegel and Bobby Murphy.
The shareholder group, dubbed the Investor Advisory Committee, is set to discuss the issue at a meeting set for March 9 at the SEC. Snap began trading Thursday, March 2, at the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol SNAP. It priced its IPO on Wednesday at $17 a share.
Tumblr media
The panel has scheduled a talk under the heading "Discussion Regarding Unequal Voting Rights of Common Stock," and it plans to hear from Council of Institutional Investors executive director Ken Bertsch and David Berger, a Palo Alto, Calif.-based partner at Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati who specializes in governance, activism and M&A. Some panel members in December, raised concerns about dual-class share structures at companies, suggesting that many members may take issue with the Snap non-voting approach at next week's meeting. The panel, which carries a lot of weight with some SEC officials, could eventually issue a recommendation to the agency on the subject.
The structure has been met with shock and dismay from public pension funds and other index funds, who point out that their passive investment structure will require them to invest in Snap shares once the company joins major indices, as expected because their allocations are made based on an array of companies that make them up. The public pension fund California State Teachers' Retirement System, for example, has stakes in every company in the Russell 3000 and currently owns an interest in Google's parent company Alphabet Inc.'s (GOOGL) nonvoting Class C shares.
Wilson Sonsini's Berger, who will participate in the discussion, may defend the structure. His website bio notes that he advised and represented Google with its "precedent-setting" adoption of non-voting stock. Bertsch, on the other hand, is likely to raise concerns about the structure.

However, unlike Alphabet, which also has voting shares, Snap's structure won't have any voting shares, which means it won't be subject to annual "say on pay" votes of investors. Also, shareholders often seek to vote against incumbent directors in uncontested elections, to send a message about a particular issue. They won't have that ability at Snap. Activist hedge funds say they will stay away, no matter how much the company's performance sags because they will have no ability to nominate directors.
"Snap is so egregious. They're not going to issue a proxy statement, or have a 'say on pay,' it takes it so much further than a Google, which has non-voting shares alongside their voting shares," said CalSTRS' corporate governance investment officer, Aeisha Mastagni, on the sidelines of a CII conference.
Shareholders may soon have something to complain about. According to Equilar data, Snap's Spiegel took home the largest amount of cash compensation, including salary, bonus, and value of perks, of any CEO in a study of top executives at eight peer tech companies. The study looked at each top executive's salary in their S-1 filings reported immediately before their IPOs.
Responding to the IPO, shareholders are also urging exchanges and major indices to change their rules to prohibit listings of companies with non-voting shares if they don't have a serious phase out provision for the non-voting shares embedded in their structures. A spokesman for the London Stock Exchange Group noted that Snap might be eligible to join FTSE indexes as of next week and it may be able to join Russell indexes at the end of June.
Tumblr media
The panel's scheduled talk come as a growing number of high-profile companies, particularly those in the technology sector, in recent years have conducted IPOs on U.S. exchanges giving founders and insiders control of a majority of the votes and leaving the rest of the shareholder base with little control over the company's directors or future
Also, other jurisdictions, including Singapore, are moving to change their IPO rules to permit dual class voting systems—and critics argue their action could create a domino-effect limiting shareholder rights elsewhere as countries seek to make their markets more attractive to public issuances.
It's unclear at this stage whether the investor advisory panel will issue a formal recommendation to the SEC urging it to prohibit non-voting share or dual class voting structures.
The SEC often heeds the advice of the committee, though the SEC is in a bit of a holding pattern currently with only two commissioners, a Democrat, Kara Stein, and a Republican interim chairman, Michael Piwowar. The agency normally has five commissioners. It is also unclear where the Trump administration's pick for SEC chairman, Wall Street attorney Jay Clayton, stands on the issue. The Senate Banking Committee hasn't yet scheduled Clayton's confirmation hearing before the panel, though staffers expect to set up a date shortly.

Hey all, Dani here.
It is the first of December. One last month to go and then we are finished with 2019. That’s crazy to think about. I have like ten more months until I get married. 2020 is going to be a pretty darn great year; I’m really looking forward to all the books I’m going to read, the adventures I’m going to go on, and of course seeing how this blog develops in the new year.
Okay, so welcome to my monthly wrap up post. Now before I jump into my wrap up of books, let’s first look at my overall goals for the year and see how I’m doing with all of those (answer: pretty good, yay).
Reading: It was a bit of a slow reading month in November, partly because of NaNoWriMo, and partly because of my training for my new job, and I guess partly because of the new Pokemon game being released. It definitely all scattered my focus a bit too much. Still, I read 7 books, which I think is still pretty darn good for the month. That takes me up to 196 books read so far in 2019. I don’t know the last time I read this many books in a year; it was definitely in my pre-Goodreads years.
Blogging: So, clearly I was not able to prep ahead a bunch of posts to hold me over in November. In fact, I actually ended up taking about half of the month off of blogging. It was just adding too much stress to my life this month and so I had to step back. Of course that ended up making me feel guilty for not even trying to post, and so I started writing up posts again. I guess that happens sometimes, but I’m going to try and get back to my usual schedule now, which will definitely happen by the beginning of the year. I’m excited to get 2020 started.
Writing: I participated in NaNoWriMo in November, and I’m sad to say that I didn’t end up reaching the goal of 50,000 words in 30 days. I did write about 10,000, which is more than I had written on the story before. But I realized that I didn’t have enough of the story somewhat plotted out. It was just a bunch of random scenes and details that had been developing in my brain the past couple years. So I need to actually draft up a loose plot and then I can really get to work on writing. I’m not going to give up. I want to tell this story, and so I’m going to do it.
Conventions: We didn’t really do any planning or thinking on conventions in this month. Obviously we do know that we’ll be at Cincinnati Comic Expo in Sept 2020, but we need to sit down and try and think of a couple other conventions to try for. And of course we do have our honeymoon to set up, which sort of feels like going to a convention since we plan to go to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter.
Okay, let’s jump into the wrap-up portion of today’s post. As always, if I have a review posted I will include the link in case you want to check it out.
Black Clover, Volume 18 by Yuki Tabata — 5 stars
The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern — 5 stars
The Guinevere Deception by Kiersten White — 4 stars
The Wicked + The Divine, Volume 9 by Kieron Gillen, Jamie McKelvie, Matt Wilson, and Clayton Cowles — 4.5 stars
Horizontal Collaboration by Mademoiselle Navie and Carole Maurel — 4 stars
Twice in a Blue Moon by Christina Lauren — 4 stars
The Bookish Life of Nina Hill by Abbi Waxman — 3.5 stars
All right, next up is my book haul and OwlCrate unboxing section…which I’m actually also going to include a book unhaul photo. Because, true to my new restrictions on buying books, I wanted to go book browse shopping for Black Friday, so I went through my shelves and unhauled books I realized I probably wasn’t going to read, or books I didn’t feel like I was going to read again or finish reading.
Okay, so here’s the haul. I started the month off by cashing in on a B&N gift card I got from work, so I only ended up buying 3 of those books myself; the rest was covered by the card, and then I did so good until it was time for Black Friday. So yeah, I still have a pretty decent book haul this month.
Then there’s the OwlCrate unboxing. I’m actually pretty excited about this blanket; it is so soft and comfortable. I’m going to enjoy snuggling up under it to read. And I can’t wait to try another Shea Ernshaw novel. I enjoyed her last one but it was just an okay read overall. We’ll see what happens with this one. I’m really excited because of the OwlCrate exclusive cover and the sprayed pages.
And of course, here is where I should post my big ol’ book unhaul. I need to be better about being honest with myself about keeping and/or reading some of my books. I own quite a few bookcases already, and I honestly don’t think that I have space to add another one, so when my shelves get so full that I’m stacking books in odd places, it’s probably time to do a weeding and unhaul.
Finally, there’s my TBR for December. Now I sort of already talked about this in my post about my end of year plans…but I’ve added a few more books to that stack thanks to my little shopping spree. So…here’s my current TBR for December. It’s a bit of a doozy. Honestly if I made it through all of these books that would be a miracle. So I’m just going to do my best and hope that I do a decent dent in this stack. Some of these books will be read as part of Diverse December, and some will be devoured from Dec 21-31 as part of the Short-a-Thon (I play very loose with this reading challenge–you’re supposed to tackle the 10 shortest books on your TBR, but that would just likely be manga for me, so I’d read them all in one day. Plus I’m really ahead on my reading challenge, so I don’t need the boost that this reading challenge is supposed to give. I’m going with short as in quick, and since I read fairly quickly, any of these books qualify in my mind). Look, I just want to read with my bookish friends around the world.
Yep, okay, see that stack? It’s massive, right? Yeah, this is going to be a fun month of reading. I have 12 more days of work left in this year, and then I’m free until January. Actually my first day back to work is January 6th, so yeah, I’m definitely hoping to get a lot of reading done between Dec 20-Jan 5. Damian and I have already determined that we will be hermits this holiday season, so we plan on lots of movie watching, book reading, and video game playing. It’s going to be a good time.
Anyway, that’s all from me for today. I’m going to start diving into this TBR pile, so I’ll be back soon with more bookish content.
November Wrap-Up and December TBR Hey all, Dani here. It is the first of December. One last month to go and then we are finished with 2019.
