firstprince thought of the day is henry getting the nerve to read the comments on some instagram pap shot of him and alex holding hands in central park or something and it's mostly positive and supportive which surprises him still and he smiles til he sees people commenting about how alex is taller than him and "towers" over him which isn't true and if he's "smol" it's because alex is huge which he loves and enjoys but he isn't short and he can just feel that there is a universe where he's taller and he knows that's irrational but it's true

then later alex reads the comments and chuckles and teases him til he's like "wtf does my man has yoai hands for real 😭" even mean?"

I love your country by country BL breakdowns and your trope discussions! Are there any tropes that are specific to Thailand, Korea or Japan or that show up extra often from a particular country?

Country Specific BL Tropes!

Visual tropes that specific countries seem to like more than others. Which is not to say everyone doesn’t do them, or Thailand doesn’t do the most (because they do the most BL). It’s a matter of in-country statistical re-occurrence. 

Taiwan’s Beloved Tropes 

Crash into me, AKA proximity alert and the pratfall kiss (I actually call them out for this one) I don’t think I have ever seen a Taiwanese Bl that hasn’t had this trope 

Head in lap (also China & Japan) 

Boyfriend sunshade 

OTHERS 

Weak seme uke dynamics 

Masc presenting physicality  

Friends to lovers 

Casual physical affection and domesticity (heads in laps are popular)

Childhood crush & long term pining (also China)

Korea’s Beloved Tropes 

Korea is really strategic about their tropes and seems to be aware of the entire scope available but only deploy them as required to move along the narrative. As such they don’t really have ones that reoccur all the time or that they lean into (aside from the usual romance beats like first kiss, jealousy, etc...) 

Beach frolic - this seems to be used (like Thailand) by the tourist board to remind people that they have beaches too.

Back hugs - yeah I didn’t realize this either 

Wound tending, a variation on this one does seem to get into all their BL, it is a very useful plot device and excuse for physical contact (like messy eater, with is pretty rare in KBL - they don't like messy)

Extreme height difference (Japan & Thailand do this too, but no one pushes it as hard in BL as Korea) 

OTHERS 

Food (kitchen) or small business settings, and eating

Love triangles

Hyung AKA age gap (also Taiwan)

I'll admit, I'm a paladin fiend -gestures at my 3 paladin pcs/ocs-

This little guy is partially homebrewed/partially fan-made dnd content that I took and ran with.

Delmar is an aasimar from a family sea elves who serves at the Temple of Rapids. Xey were sent out to stop a dispute between the local river spirit and the town that built a dam in their river.

I am not at all normal about him. I don't like alot of the art I have of the fella, but here's the best I've got on hand:

Xey mainly weild dual kopesh and enjoy fighting, although he still does his best to be diplomatic and fair.

G- I don't have any specific ocs that begin with G, but I will simply state Good Old Man Yaoi and being The Steil Ramble.

...so I may do a silly and in the campaign I both run and play in have Strahd attempt to seduce my Paladin Neil. Neil is in his late 30's, tired, and desperate to keep his party safe. I think that toxic yaoi would be fun. My players encourage me, unfortunately, so I have some funny bits planned :)

H- Nothing I can think of for H :(

L- Longing for something more (I am going to talk about my little oc for an ottome story my friend is making)

So in this Ottome thing, the main character is the nephew of the emporer and the first in like for the throne. My little guy, Cybil, is a high-up politician who is usually made to babysit the crown prince as the rest of the court looks down on him.

He generally tends to lean towards the power-hungry side, desperate to climb his way to the top, even if it means participating in a coup and slaughtering a majority of the coup. Oh well. Girlboss.

O- Just realized I could have put Old Man Yoai here. I may attempt to backtrack and leave an ao3 link to what I've written so far in the morning o7

P- Picrews!!! I have alot of the various creatures. Here are the highlights:

Neil sleeps like a log. Almost no movement or noises, and a deep sleeper ontop of that. Some might think he's dead.

Cybil is a light sleeper and cannot sleep unless he's as comfy as possible

Delmar doesn't care. Shut-eye is shut-eye to him

- pretty well known, he slips into a cajun accent when he gets stressed

- denial is a river in egypt (jk he just denies things until they dissapear)

- massive coward

- uses food comparisons and metaphors to exaggerate and further enunciate

- thinks food pickup lines are amazing clearly

- obvious again, mamas boy

- once again obvious, blurts out food and celebrity names when hes speechless

- really does care about people he loves, i think the perv thing is a cover up to make him seem less lame

- absolutely adorable :3

- does his hair like a shrimp tail

- has a really bad stutter when hes nervous

- in his fake accent, you can still hear traces of his real cajun accent

- a soprano probably, his voice is pretty high

- his eyes are really tiny and squinty, opens them wider when hes angry

- idk if its just the artstyle but it...almost looks like he wears eyeliner but it isnt quite visible or obvious when his eyes arent wide...

- yoai hands in the canon, i headcanon that he has chubby little soft hands

- again, his perviness isnt his personality. hes kind, caring, and very loving to those he loves. he just doesnt quite know how to make friends correctly and knows what he does is inappropriate, but probably hopes that the shocked attention will gain him friends. (it will not, except for me :3)

- southern grandma core is him when he isnt being pervy

- dramatic in his speech

- for a guy from the countryside, surprisingly un-guilt-trippy, usually does it as a joke

- means his pervy comments as compliments, hes just too afraid to be vulnerable

- absent father, fatherless behaviour

- strange that he is a perv and his younger siblings are escorts, maybe some sexual trauma of some kind from their dad?

🥰: How would someone who loved you portray you?

The Hatoful fandom is very good at staying in character (at least the parts that I'm in), so if they liked me they'd portray me well. Though they'd probably play up the scatterbrained part of my character a bit much, but that's more fun anyway.

💘: Why would people love your ship? Why would people dislike your ship?

It definitely depends on the Universe. Mainline the ship is more of just a crush and background set piece to the main story anyway, probably only really seen in the manga and mostly just as a gag piece. More of a silly "What if Kazuaki/Hitroi forgave himself and dated the librarian instead?" kind of ship, wholesome, cute, what-if crack ship. Hitori fans claim it undermines his character, and they'd be right.

In the Shrine AU/Mirror AU (please mirror 2024) it'd get a LOT of the same flack as Quail Boyfriends alone would get. They're toxic, Kazuaki's manipulative, Hitori's an abuser, Emile's an enabler, etc etc. And like, yeah kiiiind of but that's mashing the main story and AU together. I think shippers of Polyquails would focus more on the AU version where we're like, at most, a dysfunctional polycule with a communication problem. Like yeah Kazuaki is still a depressed emotionally manipulative mess but he IS working on it, and Hitori still is rather detached and closed off but he has Nageki to remind him to open up, and I still kinda infantalize Kazuaki and give into him way too quickly but liiiike... We're working on it.

We're three young adults doing our best, hurting eachother along the way but in the end, pretty happy. I think some people would like the realness of it, and some people can't handle the toxic yoai. It is what it is.

💌: How would your dynamic be portrayed? What might people focus on most? Any misconceptions?

Most people might notice I tend to favor Kazuaki and Kazuaki favors Hitori and play into that to make a sort of... Jealousy plotline? Or worse make it a love triangle instead a Polycule! Aaah yeah that'd be the worst interpretation...

People might assume my character dislikes Hitori because he does tend to be a little agro at him, but that's mostly again because he babies Kazuaki and is constantly ready to throw hands for him at the slightest inconvenience, and yes that includes at Hitori who is demanding he eats the vegetables on his plate. He does still have his moments with Hitori but they do bicker more than the average couple...

Oooooh my god could you imagine the fandom deeming Hitori and I Kazuaki's "Parents" instead of his boyfriends??? Augh! Incorrect!!! But SOMEONE would say it for sure...

I think it's kind of a complex dynamic over all and would have a few interpretations, especially sense it's mostly hinted at and not canon, and Hatoful media outside of the game is mostly Goofy Silly times.

I'm exhuastwd tired and dying so here are my design notes + some headcanons for the new crew before I forget them

The bellhop

- weird little freak, love him.

- Based of a whale and somewhat a jelly fish to parallel the fact my manager design is based off a shark

- the staff don't need to eat but whenever they do eat, the bellhop filter feeds,

- reverse hand pin because he's the "help"

- LITERALLY melts. Put him a hot room for too long and you'll come back and find some meaty goop

- smartest of the new staff, just extremely arrogant, making him unable to really get a point accross to anyone he doesn't like

The concierge

- Based off a dove, idk if I'm gonna change his uniform to be white but I know this looser absolutely has softer features

- My brain really goes to a few things for style, some weird combo of "god he doesn't know how to dress" but Gomez Adams and "why does he know how to dress" but beetle juice

- I am a firm believer in all the staff have animal like traits, in which I present

- Organized and clean and probably definitely disturbs guests, lacks to ability to personally connect with much.

- I need to relisten to the new crew episodes but I think it's funny if Hop and Cierge hate each other but are also most fond of each other
