Throwback Thursday Tuesday

I've gone with what might just be my favourite bit in Yield to the Moment (Angbang modern AU). NSFW under the cut.

The days roll on. Snow falls down from leaden clouds, draping the landscape in white.
They go out walking, kicking up sprays of glittering snow, Melkor with his cane, bundled up in shirt, jumper, scarf, gloves, and Aulë’s thick sheepskin coat, while Mairon floats about in a thin top and an unzipped puffer jacket.
They take the horses out for hacks through the fields and woods. A bright, silent world. A world that feels newly made, all theirs to explore, to mark with footprints in the snow and say I am here where no one else has been before. They kiss under bare branches glistening with frost. They laugh and laugh, endlessly, like children, the cold air making their lungs ache. They ride for hours, until the sun sinks down into the west and the snow burns red-gold with its passing. Mairon tells Melkor what to do, when to pull on the reins, when to tap his heels against the horse’s flanks; Melkor listens.
They have snowball fights.
They find big daddy longlegs chilled into near perfect stillness in dark corners of the house. Melkor screams when he sees the first one. Mairon doesn’t quite manage not to laugh, but he does so while trapping the offending spider inside a glass and relocating it to the barn.
They take their meals with Aulë and Yavanna, all together round the kitchen table, like a family. Yavanna is a talker, chattering away like wind through leaves, easy on the ears. She tells Melkor about the patterns of farm life: the secrets of the sheep, the joy of a crisp apple plucked right off the branch, a feeling like new life in her old bones when she wakes up with the first shivering light of dawn and she looks at her land, her animals, the seeds planted by her hands grown tall and made eternal. Aulë, on the other hand, remains as quiet as the day Melkor met him. His thoughts are thoughts of stone, slow in their forming but sturdy, unshakeable. One night, during dinner, he asks Melkor to pass the salt. Pass the salt, son, that is what he says. Son. Melkor half-convinces himself he didn’t hear right.
Mairon takes him to his father’s workshop. Puts on gloves, a thick leather apron. Pulls out a chair for Melkor to sit, and watch. Metal hisses, sparks fly, and they bathe Mairon in a deep-red glow, the colour of blood, of coals flickering in the belly of a fire. His hands work, deft, strong, wielding the power of creation. Unmaking, remaking.
Melkor falls to his knees. Willingly, helplessly, he falls. Lust burns in his heart; worship trembles in his fingers. Mairon’s cock cage clatters to the floor. The door is unlocked, so they must be quick, they must be stealthy, silken flesh across Melkor’s tongue, filling his mouth, nudging down his throat; Mairon’s hands so large in their gloves clamped to the back of his skull; desperate, half-stifled moans, and Melkor’s own wet slurping sounds, and then, then—
Mairon comes with his name like a prayer on his lips, and Melkor swallows, sucks him dry, laps at him till he’s twitching, whimpering, maddened by his taste, by the glory of his pleasure.
Every day, Melkor falls in love all over again.

i know there’s already a musical version of yttd but if i were to create my own spin on it i’d fucking adore putting a vaguely operatic spin on some of it. especially an extended chorus in the background of asunaro (& associates’) songs - with sou, sara, and kai being the exceptions. in my mind, sou and kai often sing alone (with only a hint of hiyori in sou’s songs) while sara’s background support is the main cast.
sara often sings higher than the rest of the cast and leads the chorus herself to represent her connection to asunaro & her importance to the group. sou is often the one who complements sara’s lines even if he doesn’t necessarily follow her rhythm. this would definitely be a challenge during the first main game, and i know there would have to be something where he drags nao’s song (similar to sara’s reaction to kai in the roulette) down to paint her tragedy into something more cruel and condescending.
kai often remains in the background, as support, but aside from the main game this would break 1) when sara is in a panic (where his voice is low, similar and more menacing than sou and certainly by comparison to sou at this point) and he poses a seemingly genuine threat. and then 2) when he takes his stand against asunaro. although he still sings alone for the start of it in his defiance and open damnation of this cruelty, there are lines between when reko, q-taro, and jou in particular would rise in support / contrast with miley and her “aaah” over the last few lines kai has, to crush his threat/danger with something similarly imposing but distinctly fitting for her where she is basically like “you’ll fucking regret this” as she is in-game. afterward there’d be a shared questioning and quiet duet with nao and sara following the preset melodies that mishima and kai had (with mishima taking priority). it’s short (nao will get her own song later when she is properly mourning), but one of the only songs where sara mirrors kai’s attempt to remain in the background versus her usual leadership, because this is something much more personal to her, a vulnerability she doesn’t know if she can trust with the others, especially after this second trial.
alternatively, with the 2nd point, this could be something saved for the final speech at the end of the main game. but i do think that kai would be the one who leads it initially...? OR ORRR this could be the start of the 3/4 waltz that asunaro brings in with those its manipulated (will most definitely be brought up with hinako and, eventually, emiri and michiru’s reveal in ch3) as kai and miley take jabs at each other. the waltz to represent that sort of temptation - this’ll make a similar appearance with the hades incident (ofc remixed to be more threatening and mix w the original because ouuu that’s such a delicious track it just needs a bit more spice) ... after writing it out i think i prefer this version, where it shows the true antagonism between kai and miley with his show of active defiance, while the main game is his last act, his last stand, and that’s when he truly and willingly seizes the attention. rather than the main cast, it’s possible the chorus is either asunaro (as in, they’d reclaim him) which he breaks from in the last line (or stanza, depending) OR sara herself to indicate that hesitant acceptance of the trust he offered her in his last moments. it could be that asunaro slips in and once it breaks apart, it’s revealed sara’s the last one standing, which could fit with her own association with the organization... hmm
it’s all very much just a silly idea i’ve been considering. i don’t know if i’ll ever make something like this and it’s been a while since i’ve had the energy or time to practice my instruments & i work more with instrumentals than things that are lyrical so i haven’t really got the phrasing of all of this right i’m sure. but it makes sense to me! so if i return to these notes to make something of it, at least i know what i meant ahgmgs

watching the yttms reveal they’re horrible at maths... I’m in level 3 calc (so. final year of highschool hard maths) and I’m somehow not failing. I can’t remember the equation for finding the volume of a cone off the top of my head but I remember it involves pi. I’m judging all of you and also am willing to help with maths homework

one of my only gripes with the yttd musical is that we did Not get to see miley get hit ;-; it does make sense because miley wasn't mocking kanna outright, but. whewww... it's just a little piece of characterization for kanna, kai, and miley herself that i'm honestly missing
kanna - despite being scared, manages to speak out against someone who just killed someone and has revealed herself to be actively malicious. kanna’s grown up from the flashback we're provided in ch-2 (if you speak with kanna about her experience with first joining the kizuchis) and this would be one of the instances that proves it in hindsight. she's the first one to really speak up against miley and is just. incredibly strong and brave in the face of her fear, and it's only when miley messes with kanna's recent trauma that she (reasonably) freezes up.
kai - in general i just like it when characters who have trauma support other characters who are suffering symptoms of trauma like dissociation/flashbacks/etc.; which kai offers in his 'are you alright...?' right after he hits miley and tells her off. this scene is necessary to reveals his kindness & the truth that he uses violence sparingly, but has that clear standard where he purposefully chooses to step up, even though it puts him in danger (miley could retaliate in some manner (and arguably, she does when kai draws the sage, with how she pressures the discussion of the main game) + the group would have their eyes drawn to him because he also stood up (with some of the more observant participants questioning how he knew it was safe to hit her at all... because he supposedly must've, if his expression remains flat, seemingly unaffected. means for suspicion even when they account for his anger, because he doesn’t seem to be the impulsive sort))
miley - riles suspicion in others (like keiji esp) to question whether or not she's human now that she's bled + invokes that grudge she has against kai personally, a more personal desire to see him die... also the first time we see her facade really. break? into anger instead of that controlling malice, when she's stood against. implications for later on when kai again makes his stand against her, and asunaro as a whole... she is the face of & the first introduction to asunaro, so for kai to continuously prove that there are some ways to retaliate against them is just. very important, i’d think, to making his final speech mean something.
ETC.! AND SO ON...! there are some other thoughts on this i can’t quite word right, but yeah the yttd musical is good i just have a lot of thoughts on the base game & what isn't being adapted into it... esp w the creator not wanting people to spoiler much of the original game - it just makes me wonder what this current adaptation casts yttd as.. if this were someone’s first introduction
