When I first saw Anton as Chekov, I thought, “Who is this guy? He does a Russian accent spot on!”
For a person from Russia, it’s so refreshing to see Russians as lovable characters, not heavies. While Walter’s Chekov is adorable and impish, Anton’s is a ball of sunshine, so cute you want to cuddle him. And Anton’s subtle authentic touches are especially endearing, when his Chekov uses Russian interjections like ‘Yo-moyo’ or ‘Oi yoi yoi!’. Whenever I use them myself, scenes from Star Trek just come to my mind.
He was so young and so talented. It’s devastating. I still can’t wrap my head around it.
