I just watched an interview with Niels where he explains how they write the seasons.
First, they have to write 2 seasons at a time because skam france isn't a big tv show so they have time restrictions. Meaning, they have about 4 months to write 2 seasons aka 20 episodes that are 20-25min long. Also, they have multiple versions of the script because David and Francetv have their input in the scenario.
The people he hired to write are young writers because he want to help them and give them an opportunity to start working (there is around 5 writers each time, both men and women). The writers aren't chosen because they are connected to the subjects of the season (probably the reason being s4) but they still consult people related to the topics they address in each season and make research. In s3, one of the writers had a family member who is bipolar so it helped but that was just a coincidence.
NRK reads the whole script and has to validate it, even for s5 and 6 because they are still using the skam concept and name (nrk was apparently really cool with s5 and 6 during discussions).
Niels writes the big plot lines (like beginning and end of each) that are gonna happen in the season but he doesnt write the episodes. Each writer do 2 episodes (in different versions) with Niels' feedback than he takes the 10 episodes and smooth everything to make sure no storylines are not finished and the tone/feel of the season is the same.
They learned really late that Marylin aka Manon was not gonna be there for s5 and 6 so they had to rewrite everything.
He said he didn't want to do fan service because even if he respects the fans and us voicing our critics etc. is nice, he doesn't want it to constrict his written (hence the love triangles each season 🙃). He says that he doesn't do this in provocation but because he doesn't want the season and plot points to be expected and not surprising. He wants to content us but wants to do his own thing too. For example, a character making mistakes/saying shit is not them making a mistake or the character being ruined but a realistic thing especially for teenagers.
They don't have a book (idk how to call it) with everything they did in the previous seasons because Niels knows what he did since s3 and David is apparently the wikipedia of skam france and he's been there since the beginning and is the one that knows the characters best.
They can't use the music they want because they would have to spend most of their budget on music rights. They can't popular and current music so David has to choose in a big catalog of music they can have. They chose 1 or 2 mainstream songs each seaons only (Eddy de Pretty, In this Shirt, To Build a Home). And for s1 and 2, they basically did a transcript of OG because they couldn't.
It's also Niels first job as a "director of collection" aka the one that directs the writers. Just before skam france s3, he wrote Fiertés (Pride?) that tells the story the fight for LGBT rights since the 80's to 2013 aka the legalization of same-sex marriage in France. He said that he puts at least 1 lgbt+ character in each of his projects because its important for him to have representation (lgbt+ lamifex 👀).
Niels is also the one to choose the subject of each season but he consults David for it because the production trust them to do anything so the ones to convince was NRK.
They know they forgot about Basile's bday and he said he knows we are really attentive about transmedia and that (I really think they are not the ones doing transmedia like in the previous seasons, it's an independent company).
His main inspiration for skam france is... the OG because he doesnt want to be ridiculous (the car...), wants to keep the spirit of skam because he knows it made a big effect on the viewers but also wants us to know that skam france is different and is it's own thing now.
ITS IN THIS INTERVIEW THAT HE SAYS HES NOT WORKING ON S7 AND 8 (55min out of 59) or that he at least doesnt know about it. He's working on something else and the interview was on May 1st. But like the way he answered it is weird so idk. Like that was only one month ago and they dont write the scripts in 2 weeks so 🤷🏻‍♀️.
Did I really just listened to a 1 hour interview with niels? Yes. I was bored waiting for the episode lol.

“If your feelings are still what they were last April, tell me so at once. My affections and wishes have not changed, but one word from you will silence me forever. If, however, your feelings have changed, I will have to tell you: you have bewitched me, body and soul, and I love, I love, I love you. I never wish to be parted from you from this day on.”
