it's the moment that he hugs her back, that's when she almost loses it
this is such an unbelievably emotional scene, considering one of them doesn't even experience emotions!!

I know Vice-Admiral Janeway will deny it until the cows come home but I honestly feel she misses some of the unhinged antics and decisions she used to do back in the Delta Quadrant.
She has more people empowered to stop her from pulling off entirely unhinged things.
She’s safe, her people are (relatively) safe, they’re home. She loves that she has back-up now, and if she wants to visit her family she can.
But sometimes Janeway looks at the stars and misses dodging bullets.

About the AO3 "No Guest Comments for a while" warning
If you're not following any of AO3's social media accounts you might be in the dark as to what kind of "spam comments" have engendered this banner at the top of the site:
Tumblr media
These spam comments have been posted about a great deal on the AO3 subreddit for the past couple of days. Initially they comprised a bunch of guest (logged out users) bot comments that insulted authors by suggesting they were using AI and not writing their own fics. Some examples, from the subreddit:
Tumblr media
But it then escalated to outright graphic porn images and gifs being posted in comments, again by logged out 'Guest' accounts. Obviously, I'm not going to give examples of those, but between these two bot infestations, AO3 has clearly decided to act and has temporarily closed the ability to post comments for users who are not logged in with an AO3 account.
Unfortunately, this means that genuine readers who don't have an AO3 account won't be able to leave comments on fics that they enjoy.
If you are a genuine reader who doesn't yet have an AO3 account, I strongly suggest getting yourself on the waiting list for one. More and more AO3 authors are now locking their fics down to registered users only - either due to these bot comments or concerns about AI scraping their work - which means you're probably missing out on a lot of great stuff.
Hopefully guest commenting will be enabled again at some point soon, but I suggest not waiting until then. Get yourself on that list.
Wait times are going to be longer than usual at the moment, due to the current Wattpad purge [info on Fanlore | Wattpad subreddit thread], but if you're in line, then your invite will come through eventually.
Update: There's now a Megathread about this on the AO3 subreddit.

I've said this already in the tags on a different post but I can't stop thinking about Janeway after the Pathfinder project is successful and she starts getting reports from Starfleet HQ about the Dominion War. How inexorable a force the Jem'Hadar seem. How world after world is falling. How the casualties mount. The Maquis have already been destroyed and she can feel the grief from those of her officers who lost friends, but beyond that there's the knowledge that the destruction didn't end with a few rebels on the edge of Federation space. The entire Alpha Quadrant is tearing itself apart, and it's all so far away. Yes, her little ship has face Borg and alien power struggles and a Void without stars - they've lost friends too - but as the numbers keep coming in, day after day, impossibly high, what goes through her mind? Does she wish harder that she hadn't destroyed the array, so that she could have stayed to fight and do her part to save the home she so desperate to get back to? Or is some part of her soothed about her decision, knowing that by putting the needs of the Ocampa before her own, she likely saved the lives of many of the people now under her command? How do you deal with loss on such an abstract yet personal scale, and how do you sit and read the reports of lost battle after lost battle, knowing that it might mean the home you were so desperate for might no longer exist by the time you get there?
What if Voyager ends up being all that's left?

Thinking about starfleet brats and combadges cos i cant find any pictures of one of the children on star trek wearing one but surely children on star ships must use some variation of a combadge so they can be located on the massuve ship and so they can contact their parents. Another reason a child might need a combadge is to call security if theres an issue which brings up a whole plethora of questions including do security get calls from kids saying theres an intruder alert cos they saw a weird shadow and do childrens combadhes have restrictions on the comm frequencies they can access so they dont contact the captain, so would they have the conbadge version of those shitty kiddy phones that you could only call 999 and home on. Also wpuld they be able to contact each.other

Coda really does go hard though. Like we’re all critically unwell for one half of the ship clinging to the other’s body begging them to live but Coda takes it a step further.
Janeway sees her dead body on the ground and her situationship is hovering over her ugly sobbing, begging her to live, frantically trying to save her life. And like, that is her corpse, she is dead. Fuck that bitch, though, there’s something more important going on, Janeway says to herself as she softly, sweetly, so so gently reaches out to comfort Chakotay. “Chakotay, I’m right here”
Dead. I am dead. How do you beat that.
