In a Turkish book the author wrote: Man does not drown because he fell into water, he drowns when he stays in the water for too long.

He used this phrase to describe the state of a sinning Muslim and the eventual consequences of sinning (to drown = to continue sinning and not to turn back to Allah).

We are human; we sin, each in a different way. But if we hold on to our sins and do not change anything in our condition, we can lose ourselves in our sins. The key is to reflect upon our condition; to have the will to improve one's condition and to implement the improvement with deeds. The blessing itself is to use repentance as a means of establishing a better relationship with Allah and to close the chapter of our past with repentance.
