Anyone else thinking about Kevin’s insistence they eat healthy with a new understanding after reading about how the Ravens lived? no because like. he taught him french and it would be their little secret. they had each other when it felt like there was no one else. kevin saw nothing but the court and jean had given up on hoping for more than that years ago. he got punished because he let kevin go. he hates him now. they can hardly speak civilly to each other now. kevin gave him a place with the trojans. they were "tight". he sent him postcards and souvenirs and jean kept them all. he knew better than to look at another man too long and how appropriate, how in character that a pretty face had fucked him over yet again. he wished a thousand painful deaths upon the foxes' queen for just minding his own business. he ran messages between him and his gf. he slit his throat on the way out. once upon a time jean would do anything for kevin and kevin knew it.

Kevin and Jean’s love for each other is just SO. Kevin’s postcards and magnets to Jean; his learning French for him; the promise he made Jean make to him; his sending him to his favorite team, the team he knew was the kindest.

His inability to express it is also so heartbreaking to me. Like Jean said himself that they just couldn’t talk but he also said that “the best Kevin could manage was bottomless guilt.” And Jean saying that he once would’ve done anything for Kevin and, even worse, that Kevin knew just that and that’s how he managed to escape Evermore.

Kevin at his core is a selfish person. He used French at Jean’s expense to try and get Riko to stop hitting him, he left Evermore without Jean, he let Neil keep playing for the Foxes despite knowing that it could cost him his life because he wanted to win, he didn’t tell Wymack he was his father until he absolutely had to.

Jean at his core is a giving person, conditioned to not know when to stop. He takes whatever happens to him and is convinced he deserves it, no matter what. He does what people tell him to do. He protects Riko even when he’s dead. He still loves the Ravens. He saved Zane’s life, Zane who betrayed him so thoroughly and deeply, without a moment’s hesitation or even thought. At age 14 and probably for years before, he protected and parented Elodie. He would do anything for Neil. He would STILL do anything for Kevin.

there are many many examples of throwaway comments and moments that can be used as evidence (including ya know, shattering his hand with the intent that he'd never be able to use it again)

i'm so so glad we get to see kevin through jean's eyes - jean, who knows exactly what kevin went through. jean, who understands that riko didn't just threaten kevin until kevin was terrified. jean, who once kevin left was victim of the same cruelty kevin had been.

there are many ways to hurt someone without leaving scars. and jean knows this just as intimately as kevin does.
