Seven of Wands! Three years in the making, this deck is nearly all drawn. I’ll be posting the last 5 drawings and the sample booklet writings to my Patreon as soon as possible, as well as packaging concept art.

Well I might as well start posting these since I’m dragging ass and need some motivation to finish. All but 5 cards are drawn and inked. My next step will be colorization which may mean revisiting the drawings in a digital format. Of course I’m super stoked to round out this deck, and I’m read to start writing the booklet. After that it’s gonna be uncharted waters getting this thing out into the world as a playable deck. Any recommendations are welcome!

9 of Pentacles! Making the imagery with the mindset of regrowth and humble connection to earth has led to some solid ideas for other projects. Of course bees and other pollinators are always powerful symbolic elements - so much that I considered developing a fifth suit in addition dedicated to them.

8 of Pentacles! This might be my favorite - definitely of the suite, possibly of the deck because it so consummately describes my process. It was also a case of the imagery emerging as I was midway through inking the drawing - my favorite things about the image came up as I was reading the image again after some time away. Also the guy looks like Bender, which was not on purpose but the influence can’t be denied.

6 of Pentacles - hard not to perpetually rail on the mega rich in my imagery, particularly the coins suite. The disingenuousness of institutions in general is a theme I keep coming back to. When royalty are depicted, somewhere is a guillotine not far in the distance.

You decide to hoard your money instead of spending it and living a nice life because you're afraid you could lose it all or somebody else may steal it from you. Your spending plan may be so restrained or stringent that it eliminates many of life's joys, such as vacations, social gatherings, presents, or enjoyable hobbies, but why? Instead of being hoarded away, money performs admirably when it can circulate and be exchanged. Because you don't want to risk any of your wealth and chose to sell out for an excessively safe option, you may subconsciously comprehend that you are sacrificing satisfaction and enjoyment in your life.”

5 of Pentacles! Playing with narratives of the old Rider deck and my visual themes is endlessly gratifying. I get to self-indulge, and pay tribute. I was stuck on this one for awhile, unsure what direction to take it and ultimately I’m very happy that the message aligns with the readings of the card I’ve seen. In the overarching narrative of the illustrations, two generations of outsiders are depicted, the previous perished in the snow, and wanderers peeking into the church window to glance at the warmth.

“Whenever the Five of Pentacles shows up in a reading, it suggests a time of hardship and insecurity. The meaning of this card can be deep loneliness, illness, poverty or loss. Your status might take a turn for the worse in the near future. There is a chance that you will lose something significant, whether it is financial wealth or an important item. Deterioration of your health might be already ongoing or be very sudden.”
