I enjoyed this delicious Vegan Platter at Evviva Restaurant with Olga and the girls. I'm pretty grateful that there are now SO many healthy and tasty vegetarian, vegan, plant-based options available for those who are choosing to eat less meat! There truly are no real obstacles to making the decision to support your health, the environment, and the animals by eating a more plant-based diet 💚 While I respect everyone's choices, I personally am not comfortable treating other sentient beings as commodities for us to own, harvest in captivity, then kill and eat, if we don't need to in order to survive. I know the term "animal lover" is thrown around a lot, but I do actually feel for other living creatures... at least I'd prefer not to kill or harm them if I don't need to. Not to mention that the meat industry is one of the largest contributors to environmental destruction, and a huge amount of research has demonstrated that eating large amounts of meat contributes to many health issues. In addition, those who live the longest on earth (ie: in the Blue Zones) typically eat very little meat, if any. A primarily plant-based diet is ideal for longevity. To me the logic is quite apparent: the planet simply cannot sustain eating animal products like most people currently do and the biggest meat providers are not only brutalizing animals but destroying our planet. Why would anyone who is informed, conscientious, and reasonable with access to so many alternatives choose to still eat meat when it's not necessary? I asked myself that very question several years ago: If I'm honest with myself, when I used to consume huge amounts of meat I was pretty ignorant about the meat and dairy industry. I thought I needed to eat animals to build muscle lol. I also just liked the taste (I thought). Really it was just societal conditioning... I believed the marketing and grew up that way... I never questioned it. Then even after I was exposed to different information, I resisted... partly due to guilt, partly because I found it hard to change. It took a pretty big paradigm-shifting personal experience to give me an epiphany which changed my mind and the way I relate to food. 🥗 (at Top Form Fitness) https://www.instagram.com/p/ChS6urfuqEO/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

I just returned from a few days of #camping at the Pinery Provincial Park (near Grand Bend) with my family and friends. It's been 4 years since we've stayed at the Pinery ... I missed it. The fresh air, #sun, sand, water, and being #outdoors, immersed in #nature, is so rejuvenating. I also picked back up my tradition of pressing a random #beach log, which I've done every single time I've come here. Good to be back. Another successful camp trip for the logs.😉. #logpress #vacation (at Pinery Provincial Park) https://www.instagram.com/p/CgcgPlCugtw/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

The key to making physical changes with your training program (ie: improving your physique, building muscle, etc) is PROGRESSION. Most people think that means lifting more weight than you did before, which certainly is the primary way to progressively introduce greater muscle tension. But if your goal is to gain muscle, maintain lean tissue while

We've all seen it ... the gym rat swinging heavy dumbbells and calling it "bicep curls"; or rocking back and forth with the full stack on the lat pulldown; or bouncing a heavy bar off their chest on a bench press, pounding out some fast reps. There's also those people who treat weight training like

"Slowing down is a Power Move." (Amy Cuddy). For many of us we are in a #rush to "get somewhere" in life, or to accomplish something, and this can potentially distract us from enjoying the moment. It's like we're always hustling and then we complain that "time flies". It's also easy to become distracted by the constant thoughts filling our minds, and we forget to slow down, take a breath, appreciate where we're at, and #relax. As much as the body beneftis from #movement, the mind benefits from #stillness Slowing down is sometimes the best way to speed up. Don't be in such a hurry to "arrive". Take a breath. Remember, no matter where you go, there you are. (at Top Form Fitness) https://www.instagram.com/p/CbFesEHuKrs/?utm_medium=tumblr

Looks like I found a new hobby! Some of the benefits of cold exposure include: -better sleep quality -reduced inflammation -increased fat metabolism -improved mood and mental focus -improved insulin sensitivity -greater energy and alertness -stronger immune response -enhanced resilience and stress tolerance I recommend "training up towards" cold water bathing/swimming by taking regular cold showers and practicing deep breathing exercises ie: Wim Hof method. What's common isn't necessarily normal, and what's "normal" isn't necessarily healthy. Consider what the "norm" in Western society: health issues; medicated; poor diet; inactivity; obesity; addictions; anxiety; stress; distracted (media, news, propaganda; entertainment); materialism; chasing quick fixes. Collectively, our own unbalanced minds create an unhealthy society, yet we consider ourselves healthy because we see our values reflected in those around us. What if we learned to trust our gut more than our government? What if we honored our body vs chasing instant gratification? We could learn to live in the PRESENT vs obsessing over the past or worrying about the future. We could choose to nurture our health naturally vs depending on drugs. We could focus on community vs conformity. We can choose freedom over a false sense of security. We can share conversations about personal growth, healing, spirituality, wellness, and our life goals vs gossiping about other people or small-talk about weather and sports.  It really is OK to live a life other's don't understand. In doing so you can become the change you want to see in the world. (at Top Form Fitness) https://www.instagram.com/p/CZ8hkI7ueBx/?utm_medium=tumblr

Enjoyed a refreshing Viking Bath in the lake here in Barrie early this morning was a brisk -23 degrees and quite windy, but the water actually felt comfortable... even invigorating! It was the wind chill that got me after (fingers in particular). Overall awesome experience; I'm considering making it a weekly venture, perhaps 7:30am (that's when the group meets) on a Saturday or Monday morning. If anyone in the Barrie area is interested in joining me let me know! Boost your immune system, increase fat metabolism, support feel-good hormones, reduce inflammation, increase energy, and more! #vikingbath #polarbeardip #cold #cryotherapy #iceman #wimhof (at Top Form Fitness) https://www.instagram.com/p/CZ4tG8XuB4D/?utm_medium=tumblr

I highly recommend this book: "Breath: The New Science of a Lost Art"... it's an entertaining read, full of excellent information and practical life-changing strategies.💥 Following the simple guidance offered by the author (James Nestor) can help you improve your overall #health, longevity, energy, vitality, sleep, #lung capacity, #breathing, #sinuses, immune system, physical performance, mental focus, and even change your facial structure! Even after working in the health and #fitness field for the better part of my life, and coaching #breathwork sessions for a few years, I'm still blown away by how much I learned from this great resource 👍🏼 https://www.instagram.com/p/CW6uTzXvx0p/?utm_medium=tumblr

As more people are now becoming aware of the importance of maintaining a healthy immune system, it's fundamental to consider lifestyle factors that you can influence (vs solely depending on pharmaceuticals and the medical system to manage your immunity). Here are 6 simple considerations for supporting your immune system: 1) Eat a nutrient-dense, whole food, primarily plant-based diet with plenty of fruits and vegetables, and less processed food or refined carbs. 2) Consider supplements such as vitamin D3, vitamin C, zinc, greens, Omega 3, and certain herbs. 3) Aim for 7 to 8 hours of quality sleep per night. This plays a significant role in immune health as well as overall wellness! 4) If you drink alcohol, drink less. If you smoke, it's time to quit... seriously. Like, yesterday. 5) Follow a regular exercise routine. This is a biggie... inactivity is a killer. 6) Wash your hands, manage your personal hygeine, obviously. These may seem like obvious suggestions, because they are... yet too many people still find reasons (or excuses) to neglect many of them. Let's all use these strange times we're living in as a catalyst for taking greater personal responsibility for our health and wellbeing.👍🏼 (at Top Form Fitness) https://www.instagram.com/p/CR6S5vajdJ1/?utm_medium=tumblr
