You know, I don't think it would have been very difficult to have S19 be what it will be, and keep S15-17 canon. (S18 still gets cut, if what I read about it was true [since i've only seen the first three episodes])

Like the way I see it, they could start off 19 with the Staff of Charon fight... but like say in the corner, 6 months ago, or however long it would be. They have the epic fight, they win, the Meta suit goes inert and there's some sadness finding out Church is fully gone, then they party to celebrate the planets freedom... then we jump to present day. That's literally how they set up seasons 9 and 10 There could be some kind of background chatter or bullshit banter going on about how Tucker not begin able to find the Meta helmet because he used the suit to fool the cyclopes. (During this fight he distinctly said "Man I wish I had my other suit!") Grif could find out what the message from Locus was that he never opened to read. They could find out what was going down on Chorus that the Luttenits alluded to. Maybe something weird with comm signals on Chorus? Maybe people are going missing? Maybe reports of minor crime? What if Locus was saying he intercepted a message about some Pirates who raided Iris while everyone was gone? Explains why The Meta helmet is missing. All of these minor background lead ins. And then the main start up of the season, main conflict, things progress. But you know what would be truly a Divergence of Expectations? That this new Meta, has now become the personal foe of all of Red Team, because not only did those three toss him off a cliff with a fucking car attached, but also because maybe, just maybe, it's not Tucker under that gear. Maybe it's someone who has a personal vendetta against Tucker and Simmons . . . being as it was those two who blew him off the platform into the abyss.

I'm feeling kind of embarrassed over this, but holy hell this has literally never happened to me before. I think I am confusing a fanfic write line, with a canonically said line. Like, I swear to all higher powers the lines (and since it's been a week I'm paraphrasing this): "Ah! I can't find any more paper, Sir!" "Just do the calculus in your head, like a normal person, Simmons!" Was a legit canon Simmon and Grif banter during maybe the Chorus arc(?). . . but now I'm getting all cross-wired and starting to think that was just something I read in a fanfic. But that's like. . . I've never cross-wired a canon phrase with a fic phrase before so I'm reeling over this. Does this banter sound familiar to anyone else? If it does, tell me either which episode or which fic.

S19 Mini Theory - Staff of Charon Fight

Okay, so I was rewatching some S13 stuff for funsies (a funny af "shotgun" moment). . . but I kept watching to the end. So here's a theory I had before, but now it's changed up a bit because I was wrong about the ORDER... and now I'm actually kind of flipping my shit just a touch if I'm right. I'll add a read more break here:

So lemme just start off all of this Preamble saying, IF we actually get to see the Staff of Charon fight, which was possibly teased by the Simulation run teaser Church was doing... Then this is my new theory for this fight (Which I assume will be at the very beginning of the movie). Okay, so at the end, Church is giving his little speech and saying how this is gonna have to be his last real moment with everyone. He's got to 'deconstruct' himself, and that the fragments he leaves behind will help them all get through the fight. When he says this, the fragments flash on the screen in a particular line up order. . . which also line up with certain characters in the same shot. A line up I was originally got wrong. This is the line up:

There are 6 fragments and technically six characters in this shot. When I first thought how the fight would go, I imagined some people would get some of the fragments somehow. I wasn't sure how it would be done until Church basically said he'd have to break himself up, but I digress. One of my first assumptions was that Delta would go to Simmons. He's typically the "smart" one and Delta is a logical AI. I also assumed this because I figured there might be a Holo-Lock they'd have to break through and so far, Simmon's is usually called to lock-pick a door. (*coughYorkVibescough*) Now however... After seeing this shot? HO-LY Fuck. Delta staying with Tucker makes sense. He's going to need a logical voice helping him with that suit. He'll be able to do his Big Damn Hero thing but with also with a calculated precision Delta can give him. Theta, almost invisible but there in between Tucker and Caboose, would go to Caboose. They are both childlike and find a lot of things scary, but Caboose is also good at not letting those scary things get to him. Theta will be able to protect him, I feel. Gamma with Lopez. I don't think I need to expand much on this. The Twins - Eta and Iota. . . Would go to Doc and O'Malley. Two Minds. Sarge getting Sigma somewhat surprised me, but after mulling it over, I realized that Sarge has always had the fiery passion of battle burn in his heart. I feel this will help keep Sarge sharp and speedy, and possibly we may even see him use his shotgun with new strategy.

Which leaves Omega with Simmons. This kind of shocked me at first. But then, again, taking a moment to reflect on it, this could possibly be fitting. Simmons can fight fairly well as it is, however, he can crack under pressure pretty fast. I feel like Omega is going to drive him to keep fighting even when shit looks really bad. He may even lose a bit of fear. He already seems to have a penchant for fighting - he enjoys it. He also at some point when Omega was a threat before, made sure to prep himself mentally in case Omega jumped back into him.

Of course, this is all speculation and theory over a fight that may or may not happen . . . but like, after that teaser with Church, I feel like if we DONT get that epic fight we're getting kinda robbed. But if I'm right about this, just. . . holy fuck. Anywho, regardless of all of this, I also have this far out/introspective Comic Idea that takes place at this moment. I'm going to call it an AU at this point because we get S19 in a month. But I wanna see if I can get the comic done before then. Let's say Church has one last internal conversation with someone, and gives them a temporary promotion... providing they help him and step their lazy ass up.

I'd also like to add a couple - specifically it'd be catered for upcoming season 19: In the very beginning you can hear Sarge in the background calling for all his troops to meet up outside in like five minutes. The shot is an Animation shot showing Grif and Simmons from a chest down view in their Kevlar suits, before they're suiting up and they're just bickering about some dumb bullshit that leads them into a rock, paper, scissors match. Best two out of three. Hands have no gloves so we see their bare hands and they're wearing rings. This is the only time we see this and it's just never mentioned/referred to again. - - Or, ending shot of S19 is just, everything is said and done... theirs a base or some other place they're at. It's a wide/close in shot. It's sunset. Theirs a ship waiting in the distance with everyone else scrambling around to get on - like they are going home to Earth. Back view as they remove their helmets, can't see faces, but they're staring off towards the ship and the others. Grif's arms around Simmon's waist, Simmon's arm around Grif's should, since he's taller. Dialog: [G]"When we get home, I'm sleeping for a year." [S]"That's physically impossible. You can't do that." [G]"Watch me. After all these years putting up with all this bullshit? The Universe fucking owes me one; and don't try to wake me up! Just let me sleep." [S]"Again, physically impossible. Also, how am I waking you up? Exactly? What, are you expecting me to go to Hawaii?" [G]"Doesn't have to be Hawaii." [S]"Wait. . . What?" [G]"For being the 'Smart One' of the group, you're been pretty fucking stupid right now." [S]"You're the one being cryptic right now, asshole!" [G]"No, you're just being a stubborn dick by making me actually say it." [S]"Well maybe some of us actually need clarification for what it is!" [G]"'Home' is with you, Simmons. My 'home'. . . is with you." [S]" . . . " [G]" . . . " [S]" . . . Does that make things weird?" [G]"Tucker got pregnant and had an Alien baby. A crazy asshole with too much power and government money spent the rest of his life cloning his dead wife multiple times in order to use her to fight a war, along with cloning his brain for the same reason, while also getting his own kid involved in all his own bullshit, which then in turn brought us into said bullshit. Half our career wasn't real, until it was when we got dropped on a planet during a civil war at the ass edge of space which in turn then led to us taking down another corrupted government organization with the help of the crazy asshole's ghost. When, exactly, have our lives not been weird?" [S]". . . . Technically, Church was an AI-" [G]"You are such a fucking Nerd." [S]"You're my home too, Grif."

Funny and CURSED Grimmons ideas-

-They just casually say "We actually started dating a few months ago", and literally do nothing different. They still bicker the exact same way, and the relationship is never brought up again

-They have a Big Dramatic Moment where one or both of them almost die, and a whole confession happens. They either bail in the after-math and try to pretend they didn't mean it, or they finally just lean into it and let it happen

-They stand around on the roof of a base, look at each other, then just shrug and start holding hands. That's it, that was the whole I-Love-You moment

-Everybody gets a little bit drunk and plays Truth or Dare, either Grif or Simmons are just tipsy enough to be honest when asked about their feelings, but not so smashed they don't remember later. No take-backs!

-A genuinely sweet moment where they talk while everybody else is busy, and there is the whole journey they both go on when they realize "Oh, I've known you for most of my life... oh, you've seen me at my worst and still like me... oh, I kind of can't imagine myself without you being right there"

-Somebody else flirts with Grif for exactly 5 seconds, and Jealous Simmons is activated- "Back off, he's mine"

-Simmons gets Grif a life-time supply of Oreos for his birthday or whatever, and Grif just gets down on one knee immediately

-Memory loss shenanigans, in which both of them forget they're supposed to find each other annoying, and they just go kiss for 2 hours. When the memories return and the others ask what Grif and Simmons were up to for so long- "Well, I can tell you what we WEREN'T doing"

-Sarge of all people yells at them to- "JUST DO IT ALREADY!!!"

-After the whole "Meta" issue gets resolved, the AI have fun hanging out with everybody, getting to know their new friends. Sigma is in Simmons' head for 5 minutes, and has to make a PowerPoint presentation on "Why You Might Be Ignoring Your Feelings"

-There is a big event for a wedding, everybody is fussing over Grif and Simmons, asking if they're "ready for the big day", it builds up like they're finally going for it... and then it is revealed to be a wedding for Kai and Donut. Double queer-bait fake-out

Lost in feelings... about Faces

So like, I'm just kinda feeling a little out of sorts. Kinda sad. Kinda meh. Kinda introspective.

Back when the Freelancer Arc was first airing, I had held hope that this was all a test run for us getting Canon Face reveals of our main teams by the time the show ended. Double that when S14 came out and showed us Felix and Locus. Triple that with all the new animations in the following seasons.

But then I guess Bernie said there wouldn't ever be Canon faces for the main rvb charatcers. . . But yet we got one for Church and Tex. (Technically*)

And I guess it was to not like overstep the fandom... but like, the Fandom is either gonna accept it or keep their own idea.

Like people are already basically saying they will not acknowledge the retcon of 15-17 (rightfully so) because of all the amazing things it gave us. Things people have been begging for for yeeeeaaaarrrs. All the beautiful animations, small inside jokes... A Red Finally Advancing/Getting A Plot and it was Grif and Donut of all people!

Donut vs Doc fight!? Like holy shit I never knew I needed that in all my life?!

But anywho... You're not gonna make people sad/mad by revealing Canon faces of the rest of our favs.

Like, I am happy for but also envious of the people whose favorite charatcers like Tex, Church, Locus, Felix and others got faces. It makes them so so so much more human. Me being able to see the faces, see the animations for the Freelancer arc... it made me connect to them in a way I haven't and won't ever get to connect with the core charatcers I love more than anything.

It keeps me up at night.

SO then I guess the best thing I can ask is this:

Do we have any interviews or podcast in which some of the VAs give their own headcanons for how their charatcers look? Has Geoff or Gus or Mike or anyone ever imaged what their charatcers look like?

Of course I have my own headcanons.... but for me, having knowledge of a Canon or semi-canon face idea is more rewarding.

I don't buy it.

I mean, if Bernie legit flat out said " This is a retcon; we're throwing it all out," staring at the screen like Steve from the Office, then. . . obviously, okay he's saying it is. But I just don't buy it, if it's all being based on what was in the teaser for S19. In order for Seasons 15-18 to be Epsilon Simulations, that would imply Epsilon would need to know information he could not possibly have: Knowledge of the AI Gods Knowledge of Huggins Knowledge of Dylan Andrews Knowledge of Kaikaina's deepest regret/fear from her early childhood Knowledge of Tucker's fear of being a shit leader Knowledge of how the other Alien Temples actually work - not just their function but how they'd actually work on the planet Knowledge of both sides of the war on Chorus and every single inhabitant's motivation, feelings, flaws, speech patterns And so much fucking more between interpersonal thoughts, memories of people he's never touched, locations he'd never been to, etcetera. Like, No. There's no fucking way you can run a simulation on data you DO NOT POSSESS. Or at least, not without it being very unbelievable. Unless they're trying to just say all this shit was made up, which frankly would be such a dick move to do. Not to mention, as someone else also pointed out, that Red Team finally got some awesome story beats and arcs for all their people. Finally got some movement on some much needed interpersonal developments. Like, the way I took the teaser, it felt and sounded more like Church(Epsilon) was saying how he was going over the big fight we didn't get to see, and how he was trying to make sure everyone would live - and that THAT was what was causing him problems. Like there would have to be some kind of sacrifice somewhere, and the only way to keep everyone else alive was for himself to be that sacrifice... AND then, on top of all that... Once he does, and the events we witness do come to pass, perhaps the change is that maybe there's a moment here and there that plays out just slightly differently or we see like, missing moments during 15-17... like Retconning to add in moments/tweek moments...instead of flat out trying to rewrite/rid all that development and emotional journeying we all did. I dunno. I want to have faith and be hopeful for S19, but to just think that everything we got from 15-17 (not counting 18 atm since it's not full out and also very different) could be hand-waved? I REALLY do not want S19 of Red vs Blue to do to it's series as a whole what Trollhunters: Attack of the Titans did to it's legacy.
