I looked into his eyes. They were mystifying and calming and strong and gave me hope all at once. I closed my eyes and charged towards him, leaping into his arms, and wrapping my arms around him. I finally felt safe and let my tears flow. “Shhh, it’s okay now. Shh, you’re safe now.” He whispered into my ear as he carefully carried me to my bed and laid me down gently. He kissed me on the forehead and quietly left the room, leaving me to sleep through the whole night, for the first time in over a week. I sighed contently and pulled the blanket up to my chin.
