100 years of beauty — 1910's Ethiopian Empire
In Ethiopia, food is often looked at through a strong spiritual lens, stronger than anywhere else I know. It's the focal point of weddings, births and funerals and is a daily ceremony from the preparation of the meal and the washing of hands to the sharing of meals.

Oh dear, this never gets old.
Just like red lips and kohl.
tv shows with time travel organizations/bureaus/police/agencies/whatever should have a department with instead of a tech genius eating candy, it’s a harried seamstress or fashion designer who is like
“1450 italy? does it look like I have the time to dye you wool? nO. YOU’RE GOING TO THE 1980s”
and throws shoulder pads at the hapless time agent

Daydream
Tumblr media
--prompt from @flashfictionfridayofficial
Olive trees, orange trees, green grass, grassland. Water, water, water. I'm seeing everything in technicolor decades after the TV was thrown out into the sea, killing off all the fish which keep on swimming for their lives. It's not a trip towards serenity, but surrealism.
Falling into a painting, I am a thousand colors reduced to streaks of scarlet, cadmium yellow, and tears. I don't want to become anything else other than immortal, allowed to live long in the world like an artichoke blossom in a glass cup. I taste nothing but sweet honey; I only eat because I have to--not for pleasure.
Escapism is an opiate and a gateway drug to paradise.
A window breaks and the wind dances in my hair. I feel my face getting colder and hear the brakes go off. Everybody holds onto their seats and bites their lips; I just relish on what time doesn't allow me to--
A sudden rush of wind, sunshine, oranges blossoming, and sunflowers. --Elda Mengisto

Monroe Gierl on Endurance: Hawaii
What can I say about Monroe that hasn't already been said in the last twenty years? An underdog, an Endurance superfan like no other, an absolute quote machine, and probably the most iconic contestant Endurance had saw.
From his first audition tape, where he laments about the windy Wisconsin weather, he showcased himself as an absolute character. However, he seemed to be underestimated in the beginning, especially when the girls decided to pass him up for the free ride and he waited until Lindi bumped Bryanah to get a partner. Out on the rocks, all alone, what do they do?
They slowly worked together and became one of the strongest teams.
I'm not sure which one of their victories between Bagging on You and Out on a Limb was more significant to the Yellow Team. The former was won despite the Samadhi, which only the powerful Blue Team (Aaron and Jonna) on E1 managed to do. The latter was a very physical challenge, one Monroe didn't seem to have a chance, and gave the Yellow Team power they didn't expect to wield.
Of course, it didn't mean that Yellow always had smooth sailing. They lost both their allies up at Temple (Monroe going "and it'll be just as hard to come back as it will be to leave" really stuck out to me from "Squaring Off"), their pieces, and got the Samadhi three times. While Monroe was the softer one of him and Bryanah, this didn't mean he bent over easily. From seeing through Nicole's antics to pouring water on Chris and Reece's beds, he always made sure that he came out on top, and he stood for what he believed in.
So whenever you're sad, or just need to get a dose of energy, close your eyes, keep calm, and be Monroe!

Character Voice (tag game)
Thank you @lexiklecksi for tagging me here!
My line is: “I am so disappointed in you.”
Caroline: "I am just upset with you. Talk to you later." Jessica: "I can't believe you would do that! You had my trust and then you broke it. Why--just why?" Tera: "You bring shame to me." Aleria: "I do not know which fate you deserve, but based on what you have wielded, it won't mimic my shame on you." Seraterina: "My sadness is with you, because you have lost your way with me." Amber: "Don't look at my face! I do not want you explaining to me at all!"
For your line, I'm going with, "How could you do this to me?"
@andromedaexists, @dontjudgemeimawriter, @memento-morri-writes, and anybody else who wants to join in!

The city looks so peaceful from up here; 1,553 above flames and melting garbage, a certain surrealism flying out of the smoke on glass. Smoke on glass.
Smoke on glass obscures the sunlight, colors it all tangerine, and hell on earth emerges.
It's a beautiful day to escape, and watch the sullen movements of a world gone yonder. --Elda Mengisto

A Reminder:
--prompt from @escapril (19 April)
Death lingers at every door, like a cherry tree without its blossoms, and the stench hovers over every pinkish cloud turning into blood.
A spring of berries brings upon demise; an explosion of sour impulses and ravaged dreams never coming true.
But it doesn't mean to sleep amongst laurels under a glistening willow tree.
No--that is no life.
Live. --Elda Mengisto

"Look at me for once!" Amber opened her hands, summoning snow crystals from the tips of her hands. The coaleseed together, the stray breeze from the Lestana Mountains accelerating the wind chill, before ice crystals started to form.
Their jarring, abnormal beauty earned her sister's gaze, one which didn't capture the sun the way Amber's own honey-colored eyes did. Instead, when they widened, they revealed darkened pearls where only traces of light would go through. But the ice did, and they twinkled.
"What are you trying to teach me, sister?" Jestenité asked, holding out her hands so she could feel the magic Amber conjured, But the distance between them mimicked the temperature of the summits. Jestenité trembled, whereas Amber maintained a straight head as the ice protruded through her hands, and left droplets of blood.
"You don't know much about magic, do you?"
"Shouldn't you have stuck to this, rather than learning other spells?"
Amber paused with her magic, and the crown remained in suspended animation. Despite the intricate spikes, taken with the right light, some of the bottom edges started dripping water, taking out the blood which Amber lost before. Jestenité again tried to touch it, only for Amber to summon frost with her left hand. She trembled.
"I could, but then I would not see the potential in what other magic is out there," Amber snickered, hiding the slightest glimpses of a smile. "Plus, why is there magic we cannot use?"
Jestenité played with the beads in her left hand, before replying, "Because it would tempt the goddess?"
"You're so sweet, sister," Amber muttered, before reinforcing the crown's strength with her fingers. With a slight gesture, the crown elevated into midair, before floating down onto Amber's messy, golden brown hair. With a distance, it gave her that regal image which eluded her sister and the others in the royal court.
"But be too sweet, and it's all gone."

What Do Women Want? (elda's version)
--prompt from @schuylerpeck (14 April)
I want a cloud to watch the world over, while eating a pomegranate stolen from Hades. Death will come for me, but he will have to turn into a zephyr and snatch me from the atmosphere, while I wrestle in gauze and silk alike. I want a cloud closer to the sun than the sea; I want the salt to tickle my nostrils while it takes away the languid and the vagrant. I want to slip away to a world where I could watch the frantic and the furious run their races for a bit of caviar, but can stretch out my hand, decorated with molten rings, to feed the lonely my love, and the lost a bit of shrimp. --Elda Mengisto
