This is one scene from ¨Torrent of Terror¨ that stands out to me for some reason. I think it is the way that Danny is in a battle stance but when Vlad approaches him and doesn't try attacking him, Danny changes his posture to a relaxed one and listens to what Vlad has to say. In response Vlad's angry face changes into something different (surprised? confused?) and then asks Danny for his help.

Maybe because it shows that if Vlad isn't doing anything bad nor Danny is looking to fight him... they wouldn't just normally attack each other? They would continue doing whatever they were doing and ignore each other. Maybe they would just throw insult but not much else.

I don't know. I just found interesting.

Except that Danny attacks first and ruthlessly in (not a complete list, because I watched the series practically just once and I need to rewatch it. I may add others later):

Bitter Reunions, literally the first time they met, Danny starts it, attacking a non-threatening ghost who is literally in his own house (there's always that gif of him going around, were Danny is like "oh no, I don't want to fight!", but he actually attacked Vlad two times before noticing that Vlad is too strong for him, and only then begs him to stop, probably because he's rightfully scared. Then Vlad proceeds to beat him senseless).

Masters of All Time (he first refuses to help Vlad who is literally sick and going to die and then, when he's very weak at the end of the episodes, he beats him up and throws him away. Danny beats up a weak guy who still is recovering)

Reign Storm, where even the episode here underlines how Danny attacks first. "Sneak attack, very good, Daniel". Vlad was resting against a car and Danny broke a streetlight to literally attack him in the dark (so that Valerie can't see him doing it).

An Eye for an Eye (in which the attack is not personally against the physical person of Vlad, but he sents to his home the GIW, who destroy it. What if they found out he was a ghost? WHAT IF, DANNY? And also, stupid senseless pranks).

A Glitch in Time (where Vlad is just begging for help, on his knees, damaged and beaten after the encounters with Clockwork and Dark Danny, and all the kids start beating him, electrocuting him and stuff. Vlad doesn't throw a single punch back).

Special notes:

In the Ultimate Enemy, is the ghost of Danny Phantom (not Danny Fenton itself, tho) who splits Vlad in half, extracting the ghost from him, and then assimilating Plasmius to become Dark Danny. Definitely an unprovoked attack... and despite what Vlad says about danny adsorbing his "evil ghost", we see Danny Phantom overshadowing a not-moving, probably unconscius Plasmius (we checked, he doesn't make a single movement and his eyes are closed), and then overriding him completely.

My theory is that Danny attacks Vlad both for defending himself or when he thinks that he's weak (a bit of a cowardly behavior, must add). He's scared by the idea of confronting him when he's in full power, that's why in Torrent of Terror he doesn't fight back: he knows he would be defeated in 0.2 seconds. Every single time that Vlad is serious about the fight, for him is pretty easy to defeat Danny. But yeah, usually he isn't, he's like those big tigers that fake being scared by cubs to teach them how to ambush preys and to boost their self-esteem.

Their relationship is complicated and they can't stop beating each other, apparently, but Danny is definitely no saint and he often does totally not-heroic stuff. And that's right! He's just fourteen, he's learning, he's traumatized and in need of help (and mentorship) and I like my characters like this: nuanced.

Anyway, this is just my point of view! Your interpretation is totally valid, if you want to see it like this, I just wanted to add some context to it (and some of my personal thoughts).

In 2010 we had also already started working on the look of one of our iconic werewolf "species": the aurolupus. Even then they had started to have this rectangular appearance, with heavy snouts, small ears, shaggy fur, but they were still rather "thin" compared to the tanks that aurolupus are today. 

In short, this is a kind of proto-Furiadoro, except that it is a male and, judging by the way he wears his tail, he is not particularly happy, in fact, perhaps he is a little scared.

They needed Vlad to be the villain, but accidentally created a nuanced character, and can't/don't want to acknowledge that... but that's what we would call "poor writing", don't we?

We deserved better. And Masters of All Time could have been a great episode, if they had the guts (and the brain) to show us something more plausible for Vlad's character.

Oh, and another thing about Masters of All Time

Human! Vlad is a lot worse than he is for how he acts in real timeline from some reason?

Human! Vlad is terribly abusive to Maddie, not allowing her to investigate nor study ghosts without there being any explanation when Vlad does this in the real timeline. He lied and gaslighted Maddie for years believing that Jack didn't want to see her again and blamed her from the accident (and for some reason Maddie never attempted contacting Jack all those years).

He doesn't hesitate in shooting Maddie (his wife) and what it looks like killing Jack in a matter of minutes with an anti-ghost weapon.

He doesn't take time in trapping Danny and trying to end him after he shoots him. (Something that Vlad in the main timeline could have easily done but never did)

He is so cartoonish evil that it feels like a contradiction to his previous characterization that was established in previous episodes in the show. He almost feels like a different character that was rewritten for the sake of plot convenience

Rewatching Masters of All Time (an episode i dislike for many reasons), i realized that if you just change Vlad's characterization and don't make him an abusive piece of shit of a husband, it could have been about Danny learning that Vlad could have been happy if it hadn't been for the accident and how the portal accident messed up his life in plenty of ways after seeing how Jack ended up in that alternative timeline.

So you have Danny gaining a better understanding of why Vlad ended the way he did in the real timeline while you can also have human! Vlad trying to stop Danny from changing it back because he learns what happened to him in the real timeline and he doesn't want to end up miserable that way. He has understandable reasons to be an antagonist without having to be written as ¨oh he was always evil¨ shit.

If the episode had taken this route, it could have been some good development for Danny as a follow up for TUE and probably one of the most interesting episodes in the season.

I really shouldn't "lose" my time like this, I have 3414423 projects to finish, but I started writing a series of ficlets/chapters around the idea that Danny has never actually tried to understand what really happened to Vlad, nor how his enemy lives every day... but Skulker is here to help him understand (and to get very angry with his parents) as a friend of Vlad.

(Yes, yes, one of the main focuses of this stuff will be the friendship between Vlad and Skulker, because I like it and I decided so).

All started with THIS ficlet that I wrote for a fanart (during the GreenWithEnvy event), and now I can't stop thinking to this universe, thank you.

Just saw somebody called Vlad Masters and Incel and I don't know how to explain, in the English language, how wrong that that actually is.

Incels hate women to the point of violent misogyny. They believe women OWE them something just because they're men, and that women are stupid little girls that need to be controlled because they can't make their own decisions.

Vlad never ONCE attempts to control Maddie/impair her decision making skills, instead he actively pursues to sway her affection with acts of (often deceiving) kindness or violence against her HUSBAND- who Vlad hates for reasons tangential to Maddie but not entirely connected to her.

Vlad never ONCE makes gross comments about Sam or Valerie, he never once is violent or misogynistic toward Jazz despite her being a carbon copy of Maddie.

He doesn't even necessarily want Maddie simply BECAUSE he thinks she owes him, its because he feels his chance was stripped from him BY AN ACCIDENT THAT LITERALLY KILLED HIM?

It had nothing to do with rejection, he didn't even get the opportunity to BE rejected.

Vlad is not an Incel bc Vlad is not:

A) A violent misogynist.

B) A rapist.

C) Does not believe he is naturally superior to women just because he has a dick.

Dont get me wrong, he's not a good man? But he's not an Incel, not even close.
