Okay I wont put everyone down but special shoutout to @asperanna who correctly predicted i was gonna funkily utilise law and kid's awakened powers in someway XD

Awakened powers require both mind and body to reach a certain level of strength, so I won't say the captain trio *spontaneously* become overpowered,,, maybe law because I thibk it was mostly his repressed trauma holding him back, but for everyone else I will say that it's a lot easier to get to that point (esp if they have a shortcut to do so,,, ig ;o _ O?)

One thing i find really interesting is that at one point it was said that Zoan type divil fruits influence their users, wich would put more reason behind why luffy seems to liberate entire countrys for something as simple as a single bowl of rice. His devil fruit literally makes him a god, and a common offering for gods is food, so when people give him food and tell him about their problems he automatically wants to help them since they technically made an offering

Remember that time when Luffy called Shanks a fake pirate because he didnt fight back? Shanks got booze poured all over him and all he and his crew did was laugh. If it were honestly anyone else, they’d probably kill whoever did that.

But when Luffy was attacked by the very same person? That’s when Shanks acted.

If Luffy had never met Shanks, most likely he’ll be a complete different person.

Also during the fishman island arc, Jimbei told Luffy to be a hero. But Luffy doesn’t want to be a hero — being a hero means having to sacrifice his needs/wants for the sake of others, and he doesn’t like that. He wants to do whatever he wants, have all the meat to himself (quoting luffy), and most of all — he wants to be free. Being a hero is a big burden to Luffy, and having burdens does not make him free.

However in later arcs, you can start to see his actions contradicting what he said in Fishman Island. At the start of his journey, all he wanted was to have fun adventures. But as he meets other people on his way, he starts to help others at the sake of himself. Luffy eventually grows as a liberator, not only having freedom himself, but also freeing the people he met along his adventures.

You can tell he has matured as a captain too. Pre-timeskip Luffy was reckless, constantly putting his crew in danger, with little regard to anyone else. I would say Water 7 was the start of Luffy’s realisation of his duty as “captain”. A pirate crew is not just a bunch of friends going on adventures. Post-timeskip Luffy started to consider the safety of his crew before anything else. Despite the fact that he does stupid shit sometimes, he would never truly put his crew in grave danger. He’s grown from a reckless, carefree teenager to someone with more consideration and compassion.

Y’all ever really think about how Luffy’s dream of being a pirate really developed over time? Like everyone sort of thinks he always wanted to find the one piece but I really don’t think that’s the case. I do think Luffy always wanted to be a pirate, but what that meant changed as he grew up.

Before Shanks, Luffy probably just liked the idea of being a pirate since the only other option offered in his life was the one forced upon him. To be a marine. From a very young age Luffy probably figured out he didn’t want to be a marine. Whether simply because he was a D and wanted to choose for himself or because he just hated rules that much. The logic, If I’m not a marine then I’m a pirate. Was probably what started this idea. At first being a pirate meant choice. To mot follow the boring life planned for him.

Then when he met Shanks, a real pirate, hearing tales from the sea, seeing how they acted, hearing how they lived. Becoming a pirate meant he could go on adventures. His child like understanding of the dangers plus not having to follow marine rules? That’s a dream come true for a chaotic 7yo.

But when Shanks left, this dream changed again… or well grew a new layer. While yes being a pirate meant adventure, he would also become a pirate to find the one piece to prove himself to Shanks. To show he can be a great pirate and to give the hat back. But only once he was strong enough.

Then he met his brothers. He learned the importance of freedom. What it meant to have it and what it meant to have it taken away. And obtaining the one piece no longer was just to prove himself. Because if he became king of the pirates. He would be the freest ever. It meant he didn’t have to follow marine rules. It meant he could go on adventures. It meant he could be the strongest person ever. Because he had the freedom to choose it.

And soon meeting his crew, I think being pirate king meant helping them achieve their dreams too.
