Just a shit tonne of my MoM re-write concepts. I’m trying it visualize my vision of this whole thing so that I can get better at story boarding and I had a lot of fun ngl. Core moments like Stephen meeting his own variant for the first time, figuring out why Sinister is the way he is and the ending (which I’m working on rn) are so much better explained through visuals and I have an easier time expressing the way it plays out this way as opposed to words. I hope this motivation continues so that I can make ore of these.

As a person who is going into tech, but who also has a passion for writing:
This shit hurts so much.
AI is amazing. Just thinking of all the things it could help us achieve. IF ONLY WE USED IT FOR THOSE THINGS.
I don't want a machine to do art. I want AI to help analyse samples of cells and learn to accurately flag those that appear cancerous (this technology exists and it helps doctors save lives).
I want AI to be a tool to help us. To advance us. We don't need help drawing or writing. I want AI to help us explore, experiment, analyse.
The Mars rovers are equipped with AI to help their pathing via image analysis, choose interesting places to do their sampling without the humans far far away having to tell them what to do all of the time. They have AI that chooses in which order all of the collected data is sent back home to Earth so none of it gets lost along the long long way.
AI is amazing. If only we use it for the right purpose.
We all need to agree on one thing, and that is the big issue I'm seeing with corporate need to earn as much money as possible with the least amount of spending: AI isn't supposed to replace us. It's supposed to aid us.
Repeat with me: AI isn't supposed to replace us. It's supposed to aid us.

Omg--
The thought of TAO just appearing right in front of Stephen's face and scaring him so much he loses control of the car--
I have an AU of a universe where there are no powered people at all. No heroes, no mutants, no inhumans, no mages of any kind.
Until the day a Avengers team from a dying universe shows up and does a literal hand off of powers to these completely normal people who have no idea what's happening to them.
Alternate Stephen gives Prime Stephen a shard of his soul, because the magic training requires more time than they have in the short minutes before the alternate Avengers' bodies give out due to being in the wrong universe.
So Doctor Stephen Strange ends up being haunted by Sorcerer Supreme Stephen Strange who by all accounts is nothing more than a figment of his mind. And he has to decide: embrace the magic? Stick to medicine? But what would he even do if he chose magic? There's no one else, Kamar-Taj most likely doesn't even exist in this universe, I mean, he'd have to go check to be sure, but, well...
Meanwhile the remainder of alternate Stephen's soul struggles to get this Stephen to accept at least just enough magic to defeat the incoming threat. And he decides to do something desperate: he calls on TAO. TAO, who, in this universe, has been dead for centuries. TAO, who remembers the murder of all things different. TAO, who sees the very last chance to resurrect magic in this Stephen with a soul-fragment and life-knowledge of another.
So congratulations, Stephen is now not just haunted by freaky magic version of himself but also a sorceress who's been dead for almost a millennium.
Prompt #1292
The ghost of the Ancient One haunts Stephen, compelling him to become a Sorcerer.
Stephen discusses with his boyfriend, Tony, who believes Stephen is joking or hallucinating because of his workaholic tendencies. Stephen, on the other hand, believes he's seeing things and going mad due to stress.
In this timeline, TAO dies before Stephen becomes a sorcerer. This can lead to Stephen not being a sorcerer at all. However, the world needs him, so she does questionable things.
She intentionally scares Stephen suddenly so that he would drive off the cliff.

I see your "Visitors to the Sanctum flirt with Doctor Strange, because despite the magic weirdness aura he's kinda hot (or maybe because of it..?)"
But let me raise you: "Visitors to the Sanctum flirting with Wong, because he is competent and confident and hot, all while somehow completely bypassing the magic weirdness aura."
Just. People stopping by to get Stephen's help for some magic thing and they all take a moment to flirt with Wong while they're there. And Stephen is so utterly confused.
(Wong will handle the flirting with his ususal deadpan, and it'll never be revealed if it goes over his head because of a remainder of a language barrier or if he just chooses not to engage with that behaviour.)
Now imagine all the ships for Stephen-- They come to visit him, but end up in this really easy flirty conversation with Wong and Stephen secretly goes insane. And Wong obviously knows about Stephen's crush, after all the man has eyes and actual social competence. And then, one day, Wong flirts back. Stephen is traumatised. The object of Stephen's affection is traumatised. The most stoic person they both know giving a genuine smile, flirting back and accentuating it with a wink???
Stephen confesses the same day.
Wong, later: "Oh thank the Vishanti, I wasn't sure if I would have had the mental fortitude to endure any more atrocious pickup lines."
(Bonus if the ship is WongStrange and Stephen realises he is just one of Wong's many apparent admirers and works up the courage to say something before it's too late.)

This whole AI art stuff is just getting... Honestly exhausting. If you are someone who supports AI generated images, I beg of you, hear me out? I'm not here to bash, to say you're a bad person or a thief. I know it's more complex than that. I'm just, trying to express how I feel about this whole ordeal. I'm not here to get angry either. I don't have the energy for that. I'm also not trying to change your mind. Just, hopefully help you see/feel a different perspective? That's all.
Long rant under the cut because. There's a lot.
I'm not even angry anymore. I don't have the energy for that. But I keep seeing AI images all over, everywhere. The thing is getting better (because of course it is). And I see more and more people support it. And sometimes those people are also artists or people who like art and support artists.
And then I also see artists be laid off. I see how it gets harder and harder to make a break in the industry. And even after you make it you get laid off because... People don't wanna bother with it anymore. Corps would rather cut costs.
And then I see people defend AI images. Say it's okay, that it isn't stealing from artists, that it is just a tool, ignoring a huge part of the problem (whether willfully or not).
And it just makes me so incredibly sad. So utterly devastated.
I was angry. I really used to be angry. I'm just hurt now. Hopeless for the future. And tired. Really really damn tired.
Tired of artists having to justify their existance in the professional world. Tired of people just saying... No.
No, you don't get to thrive. And you're selfish and entitled for wanting to thrive. No, you don't get to feel hurt when your work gets scrapped without your permission to feed a data base designed to replace you. No, you don't get a say in this. Don't like? Bohoo, don't see.
Well, how can I not see when this issue directly affects how I live? How can I not see when this issue affects my future? It's not just a matter of "Don't like x kind of content, don't interact with it". It really is not. I really wish it was, I wish it was that simple. But it's not. Because this is not something like a ship or a trope that one can ignore and not be affected. This is like trying to ignore a dumpster fire in your neighborhood. Yeah, you can avoid looking at it. You can avoid talking about it. But the smoke is still getting into your house. You're still breathing it. It's still hurting you. It will have effects on your life, whether you like it or not.
I threw away 12 years of my life building up my skill to work in a field that feels like it's dying out. Am I (and countless other artists) just supposed to start over? How? Time is unforgiving.
Bohoo for your bad choices, suck it up. Your fault for pursuing art as a career.
Was I supposed to just, KNOW, somehow, that the career I choose, that used to be viable, would just... Take this turn? Was I supposed to have a 10 year look into the the future?
You should create for the joy of creating!
I do. I love creating. I love making people happy with my work. Work I spent years perfecting. It's the most beautiful feeling in the world to know that someone smiled or cried or felt something because of something I did. It makes me smile and cry too.
But I also like to be able to eat. To have a roof. To pay for my meds. And the joy of creating honestly dwindles each time I see people talk about AI images the same way they talk about a painting in the Louvure.
Becaus they do. I've seen people talk about images generated by a machine (built upon stealing artwork from unconsenting artists) like they're the work of God. And they write such beautiful things too. And I'm left baffled, confused, uneasy.
And then I go to see artists, living, breathing, feeling artists, who create marvelous pieces, who pour their heart into their work, who shed sweat blood and tears to get their skills to where they are, who are still shedding sweat blood and tears to keep improving... And they don't even get a 'nice'. They've been job searching for 3 years. They can't get a steady flow of commissions. They're scrambling to be able to get a table at a con.
And it hurts to my very core.
It hurts in a place I don't even know how to describe, because it's so deep and so personal and so raw that I don't think there's a name for it.
I love art. I love it so damn much. I love making it, I love sharing it, I love teaching it.
I think many other people love art too. I think many other people who love art don't even consciously realize they do.
And it hurts seeing art just... Become this.
It hurts seeing the artistic souls of this earth be pushed down and down again and again over and over and be told to just. To just suck it up.
To die off.
Because when people support AI images, they are telling us to die off. It feels like they are telling us to die off.
And I don't think the people who do realize it at all, because a lot of people who support AI images are not bad people. They are not. They enjoy art too. But they are, consiously or not, directly or indirectly, hurting the artists whose work made the data base AI generators use possible.
They're telling us to die off because they already have our work. And they can use it to generate new, regurgitated work faster, cheaper. They don't need us. So while they may like what us, artists, do, they're feeding a system that is killing us off. Both metaphorically and literally. Metaphorically by killing the will to create. Literally by taking our living off of us (or at least to those who's art is their living. Like myself).
And again.
It hurts so damn much.
And I don't think a lot of people manage to see the hurt past all the anger.
I, personally, have grown exhausted and there's no anger left in me, only sad and hurt.
But I promise you, behind every angry and fighting and barking and bitting artists there is out there, there's hurt. There's some form of hurt behind each and every one of them. Of us.
I really hope this reaches the right people. Whether that be a fellow artists struggling to get their feelings into words to let them know they're not alone. Or someone who supports AI images, and supports artists too, and can maybe get a glimpse into a side of this whole issue. Not necessarily to change their mind but, maybe help them understand better where all the anger from artists may be coming from.
Please, I'm not here to start any fights or debates. I really am not. I just need to get this sort of thing out there, because I think talking about it is important.

When Wong wants Stephen to learn a new language, he'll start speaking in nothing but that language until Stephen starts picking up on it. He's continue using it around Stephen until Stephen is proficient in the language (at least at an intermediate-mid) and then slowly start reverting back to English.
Congratulations, Stephen has now learned a new language.
It drives Stephen crazy.

Me, set up in the timeline gap with my huge ass armchair, a dozen pillows and three fluffy blankets: "After the events of Doctor Strange (2016), Stephen Strange and Wong, the librarian whose mere existence instinctively caused Stephen to want to make him laugh at their very first meeting, leave together for the Sanctum Sanctorum in New York. They canonically live together until the snap in IW in 2018."
Me, offering you a pillow: "They are (room)housemates. Canonically."
My favorite thing about fanfic authors is they can identify any gap in a canon timeline where characters are offscreen and exploit the ever living fuck out of it
They see a time skip of any length and go

I should have known I made it way too easy for the Lokius camp to spot their option... Super fascinated though that the Wong/Rhodey concept made a really good attempt to almost get second place-- maybe this is my sign to make it reality.
But for now the people have spoken, and I have been wanting to slowly clean out the pile of almost finished ideas and concepts, so check back tomorrow for some badass Mobius saving the day of a very confused and feisty God of Mischief!
Thanks for tagging me @popcorn-plots

Doctor Strange’s nerve damaged hands
As Doctor Strange is the first Marvel hero with physical disabilities to get a solo film in the current cinematic universe-. Though, yes, Tony has a heart condition and panic attacks from PTSD in the films and we have Daredevil (who is blind) on TV- I feel it’s important to understand certain aspects of Doctor Strange’s condition.
There have been complaints about the “inconsistencies” of his hands shaking in the new live action Doctor Strange movie as if they should be shaking constantly or as if this is no big deal at all.
Serious nerve damage of the hands would cause more than just occasional tremors. There’s actually a lot to it.
Tumblr media
We’re specifically told that Doctor Strange had been in the wreckage for some time before they were able to get him out and to the hospital for surgery.  This unfortunately increases the likelihood and extent of permanent nerve damage.
Tumblr media
Nerve damage in the hands can cause a type of palsy (the involuntary tremors) but it also causes several other things too that are also detrimental to functioning as a very precise and agile surgeon.
Tumblr media
1.  Tremors.  As established, every so often his hands will shake.  Common with nerve damage this happens as a synaptic response to anxiety or stress due to the signals from the brain not communicating properly with the nerves of the hands and visa versa.  The result is something similar to a machine having a short circuit and the electricity shooting off unpredictably, causing unpredictable synaptic responses.  Sometimes it can be random.  Sometimes it can be anxiety or stress related where the tremors happen when he feels a surge of negative emotion, a new useless involuntary reflex. The synaptic responses don’t react correctly to stress-induced stimulation, which could trigger the tremors.  This can also lead to fatigue, joint problems and muscle spasms in the hands and lower arms.
Tumblr media
2.  Loss of fine motor function.  Fine motor of the hands is the agility within your palms and fingers to perform delicate and precise tasks with your hands.  The hands have the most precise network of nerves in the body (outside of the brain itself).  In fact the reason batwings function better than those of a bird are because bat wings have a a bone and nerve structure very similar to hands.
Tumblr media
Even if Doctor Strange could control the tremors the fine motor skill has been greatly reduced. In the 2007 animated Doctor Strange movie he had difficulty turning the key to the door of his own apartment and in both the animated movie and recent live action movie we see that he cannot trust himself when shaving his beard, at least not with his old fashioned straight razor.
Tumblr media
In both the 2007 animated Doctor Strange movie and 2016 live action movie he has to practice writing his own name and even then it comes out as the sloppy, awkward writing of a small child, whereas his handwriting used to be smooth and graceful.  The precision and muscle strength is gone, as we see from the scenes of him in rehabilitation in the live action movie.
3.  Loss of Control.  Not quite the same as the tremors, loss of control is when the hand (or fingers) either clench up or abruptly lose grip on an object without warning.  This can also be reflected in involuntary movement or lack there of, when he forgets to concentrate, and even if he does. The most common depiction of this with Doctor Strange is the sudden loss of grip of an object such as simply turning a door knob.  This also entails the ability to raise the fingers he wants to at the time he wants to.  Sometimes lifting fingers up will result in the total collapse of the finger toward the palm or the curl down of the finger when it wants to be pointing up toward the sky.  Focusing on one finger could cause involuntary motion or loss of motion in other fingers.  This is why Doctor Strange uses a hands free phone in the 2007 animated Doctor Strange movie after his accident. Controlling multiple fingers at once could be difficult.
Tumblr media
In the live action movie the magical casting poses we see Doctor Strange in are not necessarily deliberate but working with his new physical limitations.
Tumblr media
4. Sensation / lack of sensation.  The loss of sensitivity in the hands is very common with nerve damage.  You can be holding something but curiously, to you, the hand feels empty.   Or physical contact could feel like thousands of tiny needles touching the hand.  Sometimes it’s been described as feeling as if the hands are asleep, the tingling feeling of a limb being asleep.  Or worse yet, that rubbery sensation when you sleep on a limb and it’s lost circulation and you seem just barely (if at all) able to control it and it does not feel like it’s actually a part of your body.  There can feel like many needles are piercing the hands, or numbness, or tingling.  There could even be a lack of sense of touch at all where he can only tell he’s actually successfully pressed or touched something by watching with his eyes.  Imagine touching the surface of a balloon and not actually knowing if what you are touching is soft or hard and only really knowing you are touching it from sight, or getting phantom improper signal transmissions such as touching a soft fabric and your brain is telling you that the sensation you are feeling shouldn’t be soft cotton but rather abrupt needles of pain. It is very likely Doctor Strange has experienced all of these in varying degrees. This cannot be good for someone who conducts surgery.
Tumblr media
5.   Weakness.   As described in the Doctor Strange: Strange Origin graphic novel and as shown by his rehabilitation scene in the 2016 movie Doctor Strange’s hands are now physically very weak.  He is more likely to hurt himself than hurt another person if he attempts to punch someone. This is confirmed in the Doctor Strange: Strange origin graphic novel in which Wong chastises him that he would have been better off using a brick rather than hurt his own hands and accomplish nearly nothing.
6.  Muscle spasms.  The combination of tremors and nerve damage itself could lead to occasional (and potentially painful) spasms of the muscles of the hand or fingers.  This can also lead to the hand locking up in a grip or pose against his will or releasing a grip or pose against his will.  Cramping up or seizing up is a feature of this.
7.  Paralysis.  The Palsy that causes the tremors also will cause occasional paralysis where the hands will (for a time) seem utterly useless- like they are just there for show.  It can be frustrating as this is not necessarily a constant thing and can come on at any time and there is always the fear that one day it may be permanent- which is sometimes a possibility with some forms of nerve damage (though admittedly it likely won’t happen to Doctor Strange but he may irrationally fear it, just the same).  You could be telling your finger to simply move and both hands are perfectly still despite your best efforts.  And there is no telling when the paralysis will come on or how long it will last.
8.   Alien hand Syndrome.  Besides the hands occasionally not responding to do what he wants them to do, sometimes they might react or move as if on their own accord.  Fingers twitching or grabbing things that they shouldn’t.  And sometimes this can happen with the frightening combination of lack of sensation from nerve damage so that it’s like watching another person’s hand doing things against your will.
9.   And probably the most petty (For many). Unpleasant scarring from the seven surgical attempts to repair his hands. (which may be why he wears the gloves in the movie’s bonus scene).
Tumblr media
10. Emotional trauma and humiliation.  The emotional trauma and humiliation from his loss of being able to conduct surgery, or even keep a steady grip on a glass of water or a pen is extremely great.  There’s nothing more embarrassing for some people than needing help to do basic things.  It can lead to anger, frustration, lashing out, or as we saw from the animated and live action movie, financial ruin with the obsession that what he has is not good enough and should be better.  He even attempted suicide in the 2007 animated movie due to depression from his disability before he came to terms with it.
11.   Unpredictability / Unreliability.  Nerve damage can be unpredictable, from sudden sensation or lack-there-of to tremors, to sudden release of a grip, to an abrupt tightening of grip (though rarely the latter), to sudden limp paralysis, to tingling and pain or no sensation at all.  And it’s very hard to guess when any of these symptoms might kick in.  One moment you could seem fine, the next not or one moment you could be having great difficulty and the next they seem okay.
Tumblr media
Note: Yes, I know things are handled differently in the comics, which is why this post is specifically in regard to the 2016 live action movie and the 2007 animated Doctor Strange movie.
