I am outraged that people call Ryuzo selfish and a traitor. Have you been playing the same game I've been playing?
Ryuzo is loyal to a fault to the Straw Hats. They were the only ones who took him in after he lost at Lord Nagao's tournament against Jin. When their leader died at Komoda, it was him who stepped up and convinced them to keep on fighting for their lives and stick together.
This man literally gave all of himself to these Ronin.
Did you forget that during the ships raid with Jin, Ryuzo couldn't shoot an arrow because he had given his bow to his men?
Do you remember how Ryuzo constantly clapped back at Jin for putting his men in danger with his plans, while also following the samurai two times in battle in the desperate hope to get food for them?
And what about that time at the forge, when Ryuzo came back looking for Jin, begging for help because his men had been captured?
Was I the only one who saw how conflicted he looked when, during the attack on Castle Kaneda, Jin offered him food and a title, and he refused? Do you remember why? It wasn't just petty envy, it was because Shimura would have killed his men, just like he got half of them killed at Komoda.
(Which by the way, was a correct guess, if you remember the explosion at the bridge at Castle Shimura).
And during the Mongolian conquest of Castle Shimura, literally the first thing that Ryuzo asked the Khan was food for his men. Ryuzo set fire to a paesant so he could feed the Straw Hats, crumbling on the ground right after from the shock. Can you even imagine the trauma?
And despite all of this, despite trying to keep his men alive, it was Ryuzo again that asked the Khan to give Jin a second chance, an attempt to save both his friend and the Straw Hats at the same time.
After Jin massacred the ronin, Ryuzo said that with their deaths, he lost everything. He came back crawling because the only reason that tied him up to the Mongols was gone, that the only thing he had left at that point was Jin.
Yes, Ryuzo had an inferiority complex towards Jin and the samurai. Yes, he was envious of their position and had a grudge against his old friend for ruining his future prospectives. This doesn't mean that everything he did for the Straw Hats should be forgotten.
Ryuzo was first and foremost the leader of the Straw Hats, and honestly, as a leader, he never lacked.

For the Ryuzo lovers out there, a couple of screenshots I grabbed while playing.
Him and his small potato nose look so focused in sharpening that sword!
He's also taking none of that samurai attitude.
Also some weird wedding-run like photo with Mr. Jin.

Dayum, the animators really said "Make him look like an actual 30 years old, but beef him up too".

Mr. Compress be hitting the gym and I really want a piece of this man.
In the manga he actually looks so much younger and thin, but I love this magician in all his forms.

Actually, I really love this detail! People who have been abused project their own traumas onto others. A gay person who has lived in a homophobic environment might make homophobic remarks because they've been subjected to homophobic behaviours for their whole life, even if in reality they might not even believe in the things they say!
Humans are extremely social creatures, we are never totally immune from other people's judgement, and their opinions might subtly manifest in our own thinking. Someone might be denying/repressing themselves to fit in, they might or might even not believe in the abusing/denigrating things they say, but they might still say them because that's the thinking they have been exposed to for a long time. Abuse and patterns are never easy to unpack, and they can manifest in many ways.
Back to BNHA, Spinner considers himself gross and has been influenced to think that all mutants are gross. This thinking transpires through some of the things he does. If you notice well, throughout the manga you see Spinner adjusting his appearance over and over again, usually in the form of slicking his hair back (as seen from the flashback and his civilian outfit, Spinner's hair is actually straight and it falls down on his shoulders, our boy slicks it back every day cause he thinks it's cool and makes him look better). Constantly fixing your hair or tugging at your clothes are more often than not symptoms of people who have problems with their self-confidence and appearance, and Spinner has never felt comfortable in his own clothes and skin, that's why he copies Stain's outfit or gets himself a stupidly big sword to appear more threatening.
You also have to keep in mind that ever since he was a kid, Spinner has heard over and over again how much people with heteromorphic quirks are repellent. Poor guy has been traumatised so badly he became a hikikomori and stopped going outside altogether, so we can only imagine the level of abuse he must have suffered to get to such extremes.
While Spinner firmly believes that things must change and he doesn't agree with the unfair mistreatment of heteromorphic people, his brain has also been wired to think in a specific way. His reaction to Shoji's appearance is totally valid, because Shoji is like Spinner, "inhuman, disgusting, and gross to look at". That's how Spinner processes things, and his comment towards Shoji is just another symptom of his trauma.
Not Spinner calling Shouji gross, what? Hori, seriously? 💀
