This year, we've had some fantastic fanworks in the form of fic, artwork, and manips. These authors and artists not only blew our minds but forced us to think out of the box and made us so grateful to have such an amazing, hardworking group of people involved in this year's fest. It is now the end of March 2nd in every time zone, but we, the mods, have decided to wait until Monday to give any stragglers one final chance to post.

For one, his snobby ex Arthur Pendragon has started calling it home (when the fuck did that happen?) and two, nobody seems very enthusiastic to see him (more like avoiding him at all costs).

But Merlin has two things on his agenda he's determined to check off at all costs: finish shooting the film with his boyfriend Gwaine (with preferably zero incidents) and divorce Arthur so he can marry aforementioned boyfriend Gwaine (should be a piece of cake, right?) Artist’s Notes: So, this is my submission for the Merlin Cinema fest based on Sweet Home Alabama. I was going to write a fic originally but I had the misfortune of this particular idea not striking me until a week before posting. And this was too good to let go, so enjoy this little edit I made while I try to get my inner Shakespeare out to work on the actual fic. I promise, fic will follow... someday.

Summary:

Balinor flees Camelot with Hunith and their child, but when the law closes in on him, he leaves his son in the care of the Great Dragon Kilgharrah. Merlin grows up on the island of dragons as the only human, and longs for something more from his life.

Ten years later a mysterious traveler arrives on the island's shores. Merlin saves him from being eaten by Wyverns, and the man introduces himself as Gwaine. Gwaine offers to take Merlin away from the island, and travel the world with him in a never ending adventure. With Merlin already doubting whether his father will return to get him, he agrees to go. After all, what could go wrong?

Turns out? A lot of things.

Author's Notes: Let me tell you, I was shocked when I realized there weren’t any AUs of this movie! It’s got so many good things?? Curses? Pining? Adventure? Happy Ever After?? Hello??? So I jumped at the chance to write this fic for the Merlin Cinema Fest!

Some notes on the AU-ness: we’re diverging in a few ways, mainly that Morgana went evil much sooner and faster, so this is set early season 2, but she has killed Uther and assumed the throne already. Valiant is around because I wanted him there. Mordred and Cerdan never came to Camelot, so Morgana never met Mordred. Hopefully the rest will make sense as you go :)

Summary: The last dragon has been slain and the seaside village of Camelot will no longer have to sacrifice virgin maidens to keep appeasing the beast from terrorising their land. Twenty-one years later, Arthur, eager to save his sister from an arranged marriage, secretly takes her place in a faux-sacrificial ritual in honour of the groom-to-be's father. But the ceremony unknowingly summons a creature long thought to be dead and Arthur is stolen away to a fate presumably worse than matrimony.

Author's Notes: Based on the film I Am Dragon. Thank you to my beta, Sage_Owl, and thank you mods for hosting the fest! This was my first time and I had originally planned to do a Merthur version of the whole movie but decided against it due to limited time and plotting issues. So here's a snippet, sort of. Enjoy!

Preview: Wind blew as dark waves lapped harshly on a moonlit, slate shore. Upon it, partially submerged by water, was the pale body of a shirtless man. He was young, unconscious, his handsome face turned up to the starry sky. Near his head stood another young man, blond, bare feet, and dressed in tatters, trembling.

Clutched in his hands was a heavy stone—and he held it high above the sleeping man’s body.

“And who is that?”

The stranger stepped forward and around Lancelot. Arthur gave him a once over.

He was tall and slim, his dark curly hair swept back with a red bandana, though a few wayward locks had managed to escape, sticking out from underneath the rim. He was wearing a black cooking jacket over chequered slacks, a towel casually tucked into his apron. His sleeves were rolled back to his elbows, exposing a dragon tattoo on his right forearm. On his feet, he wore boots, not clogs.

When Arthur’s eyes returned to the man’s face, he flashed Arthur a large smile, holding out one hand. “I’m Merlin Emrys,” he said, heavy on the Escetir lilt. “Your new sous chef.”

Arthur scowled. “You are most certainly not,” he snapped, ignoring the outstretched hand – which was a hygiene hazard, anyway, much like the man’s unkempt hair.

Merlin’s smile turned into a frown. “Did Leon not inform you?” he asked. “I’m replacing Gwen for the foreseeable future.”

Arthur turned away. “I’m going to get changed,” he announced to his team. “When I come back, I want this horrible noise switched off and the stranger gone from my kitchen. Is that understood?”
