"Calculate your carbon footprint and use your yard to undo the damage you do ^_^" the term carbon footprint was invented by fossil fuel companies to shift the blame of climate change and environmental destruction from them onto people just trying to survive, stop falling for their propaganda

Finding stores where you're able to purchase food and household staples without packaging can be a challenge. I've compiled a list of stores throughout the country that will allow you to purchase unpackaged staples in your own containers. You can use this list to help you find bulk goods while traveling, or if you're just starting your transition to a zero waste lifestyle.
All of the stores on my list allow or encourage you to bring your own bulk bags, jars, or containers. I've focused on smaller, locally owned grocery stores and co-ops because in my experience they're more likely to welcome containers brought from home. But, it's possible that a larger store near you will allow you to fill your own containers at their bulk section, too, so consider trying out a few larger stores close to your home if you can't find what you need at smaller outlets.
Check out this website!! It gives a list of Zero Waste Grocery Stores around the USA as well as where to do composting!!

You know how companies used to make flour sacks with pretty flower patterns on them because mothers would make dresses out of them for their daughters? We should bring that back. Paper bags designed to be reused as wrapping paper. Jars of jam designed to look nice filled with pencils or homemade sauces. Fabric that's high quality enough to use as a patch.
Give things a second life!!

Yesterday the weather outdoors was super terrible, so my Solarpunk Action was setting up a little gardening station in the corner of my laundry room so I could get tomato seedlings started.

I'm sure you may have seen a lot of "how to inoculate yourself against climate disinformation" posts, but we're experiencing a huge amount of content paid for by Fossil Fuel Interest's to put pressure on the internet. And it's been really concentrated for a few months.
The funding is pushing for a cultural shift for people who are undecided in the climate conversation and are possibly more easily swayed. And it's important to remember, fossil fuel interests wouldn't pay for it if they didn't need it.
Most of the disinfo looks like "yeah climate change is real but we can't possibly do anything to fix it" or "these solutions simply don't work." about solutions that are tried and true. They look a lot like nuanced takes, but specifically are trying to motivate inaction.
So if you wake up today and ask "what can I do today that makes a difference?" is honestly post a lot to tip the scales regarding the presentation climate solutions. Silly or serious, for example posting about renewables getting you excited, community food forests that are feeding people, cool solutions to targeting methane, etc. Post about a climate book or show you liked, or whatever. Just make sure it's clear to an onlooker that there are people who believe climate change is anthropogenic, it was mostly caused by extractive practices and fossil fuel use, and that we can still demand rapid action to fix it. And all of this is true, because the science supports it.

There is no shortage of news about the potential salvation trees can provide — but can planting trees really reverse the climate crisis? We’re speaking to the experts to find out.

The oldest tree in Manhattan — at 300 years old — has captured 9 tons of carbon over the span of its life. But the average person living in the U.S. left a carbon footprint of about 16 tons last year alone. So, is it worth planting more and more trees to reverse climate change?
We talk to several experts on the issue: Myron Dewey, a professor, filmmaker, and the founder of Digital Smoke Signal, who film trees on sacred Indigenous land; Grant Canary, the CEO and founder of DroneSeed, which plants seedlings by drone; and Sebastian Africano, the executive director of Trees, Water & People.

So You Want to be Solarpunk?
If your neighborhood has a vacant lot, get some neighbors together and turn it into a community garden.
Organize a block party.
Create a maker space enabling folks to repair, repurpose, and swap their old stuff.
Organize a bunch of plant-savvy neighbors to help folks convert their yards from resource hungry yuppie lawns into something sustainable that fits the local biome.
Get a few friends together and clean up the trash on the streets. Make sure to recycle.
Set up Little Free Libraries and Little Free Pantries.
Get tool-savvy neighbors together to help folks with needed household repairs and upgrades.
The punk in solarpunk is about resistance to the alienation and consumer culture that makes our communities unsustainable and our environments toxic.

Hey friends, Benjamin Maldonaldo reached out to us on Instagram and asked us to share his post about a SOLARPUNK SURVEY which is super awesome!! He wants to take the temperature of what solarpunks are thinking/feeling about solarpunk itself as a movement/genre for his bachelor's thesis, and we think it's a rad concept. Here's the link:
"Dear Solarpunks, my name is Benjamín Maldonado, a Chilean 21 year old Solarpunk enthusiast that throughout the last few months, has tried to learn as much as possible about the movement and genre. This personal passion led me to choose Solarpunk as the subject of my thesis for the Bachelor of Cultural Anthropology at Leiden University. The following survey will be part of that thesis, where I will ask you about your thoughts on different matters like the Solarpunk movement, Solarpunk content, Solarpunk communities and some basic demographics. Based on the time I have spent in Solarpunk forums, it is very likely that you are also curious on what other Solarpunks think. Given this, after I close the survey I would like to share my findings with you all, hopefully contributing to the ongoing debates within the community. Your participation in this survey is entirely voluntary, and all responses will be kept confidential. Your personal information will not be divulged, and your individual responses will remain anonymous. The data gathered from this survey will be used solely for research purposes related to this research, supervised by Assistant Professor Rodrigo Ochigame and Assistant Professor John Boy
Although I am sure there are a lot of underage Solarpunks who have a lot to say, I sadly will not be allowing people younger than 18. This is solely a legal matter. Your understanding and cooperation on this matter are greatly appreciated."

Putting the PAW in SPAW. Okay, so this technically is more slice-of-life than an action for Solarpunk Action Week, but the internet could always use more happy doggo content.

Solarpunk Action Week GOOOOOO
Y'all it is Solarpunk Action Week and we are STOKED for it! Christina's already been posting videos (unfair; she totally has a six-hour headstart lol), she's got the writing group meeting on Friday, and I'm looking forward to skilling UP when it comes to gardening, landscaping, building, and all-around 'round-the-house solarpunky improvements.
Who knows, I might knock together my courage and try to patch up those pairs of jeans using the sewing machine, of which I am very afraid for some reason.
Anyway. What are you fine folks up to for SPAW?
