Yup, if Buck/Tommy was never confirmed canon and Buddie stans could still confidently write metas about how Buddie is "the only endgame that makes sense" because Tim puts no effort into their het relationships, there would be no "call out posts" - the fandom would keep writing and sharing fics and celebrate whatever milestone they hit next. ("Look at all this beautiful fic we've got when our ship isn't even canon yet!" etc etc) And the ~discourse~ is even more senseless when you actually look beyond the Buck/Tommy tag as one of the main relationships. I'm not on ao3 every single day anymore, but I know for a fact QUITE a few of those supposed Buck/Tommy stories involve pining Eddie or Buddie feelings realization before making them endgame. Anything that involves Eddie as something more than the best friend is not a Buck/Tommy fic. That is a Buddie fic that uses Tommy as a "plot device" in the exact way the fandom was hoping Tim would use Tommy this season. They're not mad about Henren fics being outnumbered. They're mad that the intensity for canon Buddie has faded/is fading because the less people care about Buddie being together, the less active the fandom will be and the less incentive folks behind the scenes could have to make them the "obvious" endgame choice. (Why try to convince Ryan and Oliver to make Buddie happen if even most in the online fandom eventually learn to be okay with the story as is? And if they don't, they won't be watching anyway.)

Idk how to start these kinds of posts, so I'm going to start off with my thoughts about the situation, because I'm at my breaking point.

First off, I'd like to say how fucking pissed I am to see people harassing and sending death threats to others for liking a character from Outlast, where pretty much *everyone is fucking horrible.* I'm assuming the people who do so are not used to fandoms like Outlast, but oh my god it's gone way too far. Why harass someone for liking a fictional character?

On that note, I'd like to discuss Coyle a little bit, concerning the people who have admitted to liking him openly getting harassed. I like him. I have ever since the closed beta came out. Most of us are aware that he's a horrible person, but so many of you think that we like him because of the things he's done, when no, that's not the case. We don't like him because he was a Klan member, we don't like him because he is a domestic abuser. Most of us like him because he's an attractive character, and he has an interesting story. People might just like him because he's their type. it doesn't have to go any deeper than that. Can't we like horrible characters anymore without being harassed?

Also, a lot of these people who seem to think that we like him because of the things he's done, seem to think that because we like him, it means it *must* align with our morals, when no, that's not how that works. I'm not entirely sure if these people are that stupid, or they just refuse to use their brains. I have seen someone call people who like Coyle racist over little to no evidence, it's just because they think that he's a disgusting character, it must mean that anyone who likes him is the same way. That's just stupid. Plain stupid.

Now, my personal thoughts about Coyle because I've been keeping them all bottled up.

As someone who's liked him ever since the closed beta, I can tell you that I fell in love with him *before* his lore was released. At the time, all I knew was that he SA'd people and was sadistic. When his lore *did* finally came out, I legitimately felt heartbroken. So I can tell you with complete certainty, that most people who *do* like him, don't like him because of the terrible things he's done, it's because we were just attracted to his character. And also, I've seen some people say that we should just stop being connected/loving him because of his backstory. I can tell you right now, that that's not how it fucking works. You can't just cut yourself off from a character immediately, especially if you're extremely connected to the said character.

And to the people saying that we "romanticize", "sexualize", and "glorify" Coyle (I'm using Coyle as another example, because that's pretty much all I see mentioned when people complain, besides the few people who complain about Eddie simps/stans), we don't do that by simply ignoring what he's done. We do realize he's bad, and we don't need to hyperfocus on those specific traits of his backstory or character. We also aren't saying anything he has done or does is a good thing that should be followed, we are simply ignoring those parts because they aren't really plot-important, nor do they really need attention.

Now.... Considering that the people have been harassing (indirectly or directly I don't care) others have liked and posted characters such as Nurse Sally and Val, I don't think their opinions are the most valid. I might be wrong, please correct me if I am. People who have attachments to/are attracted to a horrible character aren't immediately horrible themselves. I can promise you, most people who like horrible, disgusting characters aren't like them at all.

Now about the Proshipper bs, I'm not going to talk about that, because I have little knowledge about it. About Dead Dove fics on the other hand, nobody is forcing you to read those fics. It's completely *your* fault for not reading the tags in advance, it's not the writers' or other consumers' fault. Dead Dove literally means that there are going to be dark subjects in the fanfic, don't complain once you read it and see dark subjects like the tag had told you beforehand.

Coyle himself, is a terrible, *terrible* man. But that doesn't mean we have to focus on him being horrible *all* the time. There are plenty of characters who are almost exactly the same, or are worse. You can't control or police who other people can love vs who they can't, especially not in the outlast fandom, where most of the characters are horrible in their own right. You may not be into certain characters, but that doesn't mean you can harass and send death threats to others who do.

HELLO FELLOW ST/DDIE NOT-QUITE HATER BUT JFC DO THE DOUBLE STANDARDS REALLY NEED TO BE SO OBVIOUS?

i love the fandom, but this issue has been present since. forever. since steve stans were shitting on nancy after the halloween party scene, making fics and long-ass paragraphs bemoaning steve’s puppy-dog eyes when he heard that nancy say that she was pretending to be in love. as if the scene wasn’t about NANCY and her grief??

and then again! when robin came out, the initial “holy shit, we finally have some canon queer rep of quality!! robin’s such a cool character, and this was a beautiful scene!” people immediately latched on to the fact that she didn’t label herself explicitly as a lesbian in order to shove her and steve together. and again, the steve stans raved about what an excellent ally steve was, when the scene was about ROBIN and pushing past her obvious fear to tell steve something like that.

and most recently, with the vickie and robin scenes. i personally don’t ship them, but even that was, apparently, content tailored for the steve stans. the fact that the directors might be leading into an actual romance life for a canonical lesbian character (though nancy has literally been right there. even the actors are in support of the ship)? unimportant because look!! look how proud steve looks in that scene, look how happy he is for robin. wtf.

steve’s a great guy, a fun character and he’s got depth and kindness etc etc. eddie… i mean. he’s also really cool and i get why people like him, i really do. but he barely had a season’s worth of character development, and already he’s a fan favorite. i like the ship, but i hate the fact that once again, the fandom is full-on obsessing over the “cute white boys” and neglecting the wlw pairings

and it’s so much more than a bunch of people upset that their ship isn’t as popular. this is an actual issue, where the lack of wlw content and attention is forever being overshadowed by the mlm pairings.

sadly, i don't know any history of the stranger things fandom since i've never watched the show, let alone engaged in the fandom, but i can attest to the rock/ie one since i've seen several posts mentioning how steve looked like a proud parent or w/e, and then others being all "poor steve" since he's single while robin has vickie and nancy has johnathon. (for now.)

on his own, steve's an okay character to me. his development was good until 4B messed it up with him latching onto nancy again, but even with that, i've never gotten the impression that there's a lot of. depth to him? like it's very much the basic character arc of "popular highschool asshole realizes it is bad to be an asshole and that he actually cares for others". totally fine but hardly groundbreaking lol. and if i see his chest hair one more time-

i haven't watched the show, so i can't attest to eddie outside of gifs, but again. nothing special from what i've seen. his little arc seems to be 'manning up'? instead of fleeing like he did with chrissy (which i thought was a perfectly valid reaction, frankly), he dives into lover's lake, helps save steve and then sacrifices himself which ultimately then lowkey negates the development because he's fucking dead lol.

maybe it's just because he's a far cry from my type of male character, but. yeah, don't get the fan favorite thing. don't get the petition with 75k signatures. don't get the ship (no issue with it yet though) when they barely had any scenes. it's definitely a case of them both being (arguably) attractive white men. cishet girls in particular will eat that shit right up.

the fact that ste/ddie shippers are now going around reporting ronance shippers and calling them names for giving them a taste of their own medicine and/or politely asking them to tag their fucking fics correctly is disgusting imo. it's giving lesbophobia. they seem to think their ship is more important, and therefore nobody else's tags and spaces matter. the way they behave, you'd think the average age of that fandom is 12. (and i wouldn't be surprised if it is, honestly.)

the only canon lgbt+ character is wlw. (i can't speak for will. i don't know if his sexuality has actually been definitely stated yet, and it hasn't in the show as far as i'm aware, so. vickie also isn't confirmed anything as far as i know.) and yet somehow mlm pairings with minimal scenes are heavily overshadowing any wlw content. (first it was billy/steve which. what the fuck, actually. now it's ste/ddie.) i don't know what the huge disparity is rooted in (lesbophobia, misogyny, mlm fetishization, all of the above) but it's fucking annoying and boring. broaden your horizons. get a grip. uggggghhh.

Conclusion

There were high expectations going into Forbidden Door, but if anyone tries to tell you that it's a 'two match card' feel free to slap them, because they'd probably jizz over the one Bloodline match per PPV and call it the best thing ever. This PPV had its downsides for sure, a lot of weak finishes - a couple maybe done due to injuries or Sting feeling a little loopy - so it didn't come out to its full potential, but it was still a really good night for wrestling.

I would still say in spite of everything it was still a success, but I also feel like AEW and New Japan need to consider making it a 2-Day event to fit more talent on the show, we still lacked names on AEW's side like FTR, HoB, Acclaimed, BCG (if they wanted to come on I'm not sure how Jay feels about using FD as a loophole), Miro, Ethan, Dark Order, PAC, Keith Lee, TNT Champion Christian I mean Luchasaurus, Wardlow, Samoa Joe, and names on NJPW's side like Bullet Club, GoD, Alex Zayne, Nagata, Team Filthy, Bishamon, Great O Khan, Toru Yano (let Yano and Mox face off you cowards!), Master Wato, and KUSHIDA, and this is not even bringing up all the women we could've used - which frankly, we should try to schedule an All-Women's crossover PPV with Stardom featuring DDT/TJPW, AEW/ROH and maybe even other companies' talents.

But I digress, a lot of match finishes were poor but a lot of the wrestling in matches were enjoyable, I had fun and we set up some new directions and potential rematches down the line.

Match of the Night: This is probably gonna be controversial to some but I felt that the 10 Man Tag was the best of the night. Omega/Ospreay and Okada/Danielson were really good, but they also took time to get going, and I do prefer a high-energy wrestling match to a slower technical bout. Best Attire: Tetsuya Naito, man looks like he stepped out of a masquerade party and since SANADA is just his 'regular guy' persona rather than the cold skull and we had no extended Omega attire he's really the only choice. Best Performance: I want to give it to Eddie for carrying the emotional weight of the 10-man, I also want to give it to Punk for being a proper shithouse to a mixed crowd, I also really want to give it to Danielson for wrestling a clinic with a fractured arm, but I do have to give it to Omega and Ospreay as a tie they wrestled their butts off Spot of the Night: As much as I still love Takeshita decking Ishii, it's Omega kicking out of the OWA at 1

Infantilizing, that's the word I was searching for when thinking of s3 Steve. You're so correct because it's literally true. The sailor costume only makes it so much worse as well. (I mean if you think about it little boys get dressed in such costumes for family photoshoots.) Steve literally hates it so much but the fandom makes it out as if it's his awakening to dress feminine from this point forward. I side eye everyone who says s3 Steve is peak Steve.

I literally get so mad thinking about what they did to his character and especially how the fandom just makes it so much worse. I refuse to read any Steddie fics because Steve is not recognizable in those, he's even more ooc than in the show.

Not to be a bitch but yesterday when the Barbie posters dropped and the fandom ofc made edits with Steve only being referred as the babygirl I wanted to barf. Actual Steve (even s3 one) would hate it so much that people reduce him to only this, as if he doesn't have anything else. Literally every other character got a cool tagline in those posters.

Also what I hate in the fandom is how much trauma porn they project onto Steve for some angst fueled fics. They infantilize him even more by giving him disabilities and have other characters come save him because too dumb do anything. I mean you can give him some repercussions from his injuries but at least do a little bit of research and not use it for some angst so some other character (Eddie) can swoop in and save him from himself. It's extremely disrespectful towards people with actual disabilities. Like I have to wear glasses and it's so popular to give Steve glasses as well but 80% of those fics are him being so insecure about it that he needs others to constantly reassure him and force him to wear it. Like thanks so much. Or characters painting his hearing aids because they are too ugly for him (literally I saw this exact take and that person in the tags said "idk anything about hearing aids I just thought it was cute", like just say you only care about the angst aspect). I have nothing against people who have disabilities projecting those onto Steve because they usually know what they are talking about and handle it with care, but most of the fandom just uses those disabilities to make Steve even more submissive and pathetic for his partners.

People who enjoy S3!Steve most are wrong. S2!Steve is best Steve, but I'll give S4!Steve a pass purely because I find him deeply attractive (especially during the unhinged moment with the bat). S3!Steve had to wear an awful outfit and the show played him being tortured in a more humorous light than what was appropriate. 0/10

I don't read st/ddie fics because I think the ship sucks. like. I fail to see anything appealing about it other than the fandom wanting two decently attractive (subjectively speaking because I do not find Eddie attractive, sorry stans) white boys to fuck.

I won't comment on the Barbie memes except to say that literally every one I've seen has annoyed me deeply.

As for the trauma porn I will be honest and say that sometimes I do enjoy a good trauma porn fic where everyone is just incredibly miserable, but those are mostly reserved for those days where I just need/want to cry for several uninterrupted hours, but even then I still have standards. My issue with Steve angst/wump fics is that often they feel less about Steve dealing with his trauma than they do about other characters needing to explain to Steve that he has trauma, and the only character I find this to be acceptable from is Hopper in a pseudo father/son familial bond moment. There's something raw about Hopper and Steve interacting and talking about trauma, whereas with other characters it feels more for show. Regardless, there are a lot of people who write Steve trauma fics in a way that just isn't done well.

There’s something I wanted to say as someone who’s seen a fandom that was themselves picked on and viewed as outcasts that ended up really accepting and then went really wrong. It’s okay for Billy and Harringrove fans to not like Argyle, we don’t have to like Argyle to “prove we’re not racist.” We don’t have to like Lucas or Erica either (personally I like those two but wish Erica got more depth)

The fandom I was in involved a character and ship that was dubbed problematic and that its stans were racist. Eventually our own fandom members got so intense about proving antis wrong (you can’t they’re unhinged and nothing you do will get through to them) that anyone who disliked any of the POC characters to any degree or criticized the female part of the ship in ANY way started getting harassed just as much by fellow stans as by antis. It culminated in a group of BNFs doxxing another shipper.

This fandoms great, I want us to stay that way

The only thing that really annoys me about the whole Argyle argument from the antis is that I was one of the first gifmakers in the Stranger Things fandom to actually gif Argyle when vol 1 came out. Me, a supporter of a "racist" fictional character, who's supposed to hate a minor poc character. And that same set of mine currently has 206 notes (75 reblogs) whereas my Robin&Eddie set has over 2k notes (and over 400 reblogs). Ironically, some of those reblogs on my Argyle set are from my fellow "racists" as well. 😂😘 So that assumption that we're all racists and hate Argyle and other poc characters in this show is fucking idiotic and feels like a slap in my face (especially since I have giffed other poc characters in other shows before ST jfc.)

In any case, I don't really care about being particularly woke or trying to prove myself to the larger fandom anymore. They have made it pretty goddamn clear that they don't want to interact with my content, no matter how often I use their popular "tracked tags". And they obviously also don't care to read those long essays in defense of Billy Hargrove, no matter how good and well-thought they are, because they simply just don't care. They've already made up their minds. Fighting them is like Don Quixote fighting against windmills. It's pointless and quite frankly, stupid.

We're all here to chill and have fun in the end. This shouldn't be this serious.

hot take- as a fandom, we (bylers) tend to overcompensate for things.

when eddie/st*ddie stans started to get really annoying, everyone immediately switched up on them, and went from being chill about them or even enjoying them to completely despising them, for pretty much no reason. when milkvans came into our tag a lot post v1, we stormed into theirs, and it’s still a big problem over there. if there’s a theory that everyone likes, then one person points out that it doesn’t make sense or even just disagrees, suddenly EVERYONE hates that theory and it’s automatically bad.

there’s more examples, but it’s cold where i am and my fingers are freezing, making it hard to type, so i’m gonna try and keep this short

i just wish that we could be a lot more chill with the people around us. we tend to go from 0 to 100 REALLY fast, and often times it’s just people following other people solely because they have a strong opinion, and strong opinions must be right, right?

hella based anon. part of that is just general internet culture, i think, too. the byler fandom is much better about this than many other fandoms I’ve seen, but i also limit myself to my dash and don’t go in the tag very often.

part of what’s resulted from the expansion of the internet has also been the increase of mob mentality as the definition of right and wrong has started to be something people stamp on everything they see. nuance is much more difficult to see when everyone around you is saying something is good or something is bad, so you just jump on the van and agree (even more so when someone uses a proper argumentative and convincing tone). the byler fandom is much better about keeping itself in check, especially on tumblr, but it’s still something that happens.

the steddie example is one where I do understand why people started hating it so much because it went from a ship that queer people enjoyed to something straight women used to fetishize gay men. most byler shippers are prideful of the fact that byler is a very realistic, accurate portrayal of queer love and to see another ship blow up thanks to fetishization is something that was hard to watch happen. the tagging system was also fucked because of how many new people in the fandom were eddie fans and new people tend to mistag or purposefully use the wrong tags for reach. i understand the frustration there, but I also see what you’re saying.

I’m Eddie. I’m a gay disabled androgynous man from Canada. I’m autistic, and one of my biggest and long-lasting special interests is listening to music.

For as long as I can remember I’ve always been an enthusiast for listening to music- despite the fact that I can’t sing or play a single instrument for the life of me, I always felt that music made by other people was a great way for me to express myself as an autistic person with speech problems. I’ve always felt a deep connection with music as an art form, and while I may not know a whole lot about the technicalities of putting music together or how music is played, I still have so much appreciation for the work put in to create these pieces of art, and my goal is to find this appreciation in every genre possible.

I’m a firm believer in the idea that there is no truly bad music genre, and that it’s a good thing to broaden your scope of what kind of art you surround yourself with. (I don’t fucking care if you don’t like a certain genre, I have my own that I don’t like much as well, but at least try the genres you don’t like so that you have legitimate and smart reasons as to why you don’t like them. Also, just because you don’t like a certain genre, doesn’t mean it’s entirely all bad.)

As stated before, my special interest is listening to music, but I also will sometimes focus on a specific artist or band for a given period of time. These will often change, so don’t expect me to keep my focus for too long. I do have my favourites though, and you’ll notice who these are quickly when you follow me.
