Budapest: we finally get to know what happened!
Well, not oficially, and certainly not in the near future. However, that doesn't stop fans (me) from having movie concepts (this post) for fun and entertainment (it's consuming my time and I fantasize about seeing it in the cinema). But moving on...
Black Widow III: Budapest
Tumblr media
Oh and if you're feeling confused, this is preceeded by Black Widow II: Into the winter mist, also on this blog
The intro is similar to the one of the first Black Widow movie: images roll as if we were watching a documentary, not a Marvel movie. Everyone is dead silent. This is rated R, another sign it's going to be dark.
With her mind made up to end the Red Room once and for all, and given the only chance to do so by Clint Barton sparing her life, Natasha plans on blowing up the building Dreykov is in. This can happened only after his daughter, Antonia, steps in. Facing a great moral conflict, Clint doesn't accept at first. However, he understands Natasha will complete her job in Budapest with or without his help, so they end up working together.
The scenes used to show the explosion are the same ones we saw in Black Widow.
On a smoky rooftop, Natasha and Clint catch their breath, with the city sprawling below. They are bloodied and bruised, trying to find an escape. Soon, a Red Room assasin whose identity remains hidden catches up to them. They work together, showcasing their distinct combat styles and growing trust.
They have to hide in air ducts for almost one week, because that's how long it took for the Red Room to lose their trace. Natasha takes this as a great success. She believes Dreykov and his daughter to be dead, even though they aren't.
Finally, weakened and in need for rest, they arrive at a hidden safehouse. They discuss their options. Natasha suggests contacting a former Red Room contact, a woman named Yulia, who might know escape routes. This is a new character we've never seen before, but heard of several times in the previous movie. She is the same woman that helped her and Bucky Barnes remain together for so long, until the separation that occured with her last mission, and the only one that would count: Budapest. She knew there was no way back now. Nothing of this is said out loud to Clint.
Clint expresses reservations, fearing S.H.I.E.L.D. may not accept them after defying orders. He also reveals internal conflict about leaving his loyalty behind. In a moment of carelessness, he also mentions the code name Mockingbird, which Natasha recognises from her former missions. She doesn't know of the connection the woman has with Clint, though.
They ultimately decide to trust Yulia, recognizing their need for help.
Meeting her in a bustling Budapest café, they learn about a covert extraction point arranged by an unknown benefactor. Hesitantly, they agree, aware of the risks. The journey to the extraction point involves tense encounters with Red Room agents and Budapest's criminal underworld. We see a lot of flashbacks from both Clint's and Natasha's past.
Reaching the extraction point, the benefactor is revealed to be Nick Fury, who was observing them from the shadows. He offers Natasha a deal: join S.H.I.E.L.D. and use her skills against threats like the Red Room in exchange for protection and a new identity.
Her choice is disrupt by a Red Room attack. In the ensuing chaos, she confronts a former trainer, reveal ing the Red Room's true reach and sinister objectives. She is given one last choice to stay by their side, as she always had. The one speaking is no other than Melina. Natasha looks for Yelena in the other widows, but she isn't there.
"I never wanted to be your agent" she says to them, in English, altough she was adressed in Russian. "But I can become your worst mistake".
In a burst of action, the fight begins again. Yulia sacrifices herself, offerings the others a chance to escape.
Leaving Budapest on a S.H.I.E.L.D plane, changed by everything that happened, Natasha accept Fury's offer, haunted by ghosts of her past but determined to forge a new path.
The closing scenes show Maria Hill, adressing one intriguing question to Clint and Natasha.
"Have you ever heard about the Avengers initiative?"

Hey! I saw that you answered a question related to TAC and I'm excited of thinking about TAC III, so I have a couple of questions (if you are willing to answer them)
Will Leaf's true origin be revealed?
Which characters can we expect to have a central role in the narrative?
Do you think Leaf and Silver will ever make amends?
Will the Napaj Champions work together with the Kalos Champion (I remember seeing a question about the Kalos Champion a couple of years ago)?
I've always figured if Paul has a friend or close ally in his Elite 4 (for example, Misty with Leaf when she was the Indigo Champion)?
Hi!
Some of these are tricky to answer because I’m completely rethinking what I want to do with TAC III (lots of time gives me plenty of opportunity to reconsider my premise, haha), but I’ll do my best:
1. I’ve thought about Leaf’s origins, and I’ve toyed with delving into them, but I’m not sure she wants to investigate the identity of her birth parents. She’s been disappointed by most parental figures in her life and isn’t interested in it happening again.
2. Hard to say. A lot of characters battle for center stage in an ensemble fic with a cast that large.
3. Not formally. Leaf and Silver are both too stubborn to admit fault. I do think it’s possible they could one day peacefully co-exist, but they won’t ever be friends.
4. Not sure! Early plans were for TAC III to be rooted in Kalos, but that’s up in the air.
5. Paul is close with Emily, Steven and Cynthia’s daughter, who becomes one of the Sinnoh E4 as an adult. She’s ambitious and ruthless, much like he was as a young trainer; however, unlike him, she has the charm to climb the social ladder through interpersonal networking versus brute strength. It’s definitely a good thing she likes Paul; it means she serves as more of an asset than a danger to him.

Farewell CT-155: RCAF Retires Hawks, Halting Pilot Training Within Canada
Royal Canadian Air Force announced that it will retire its CT-155 fleet and go on a period of hiatus for its pilot training program.

On March 8, 2024, the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) announced that it will officially be retiring its fleet of CT-155 Hawk advanced trainer aircraft. 419 Tactical Fighter Training Squadron (419e Escadron d’entraînement à l’appui tactique), in charge of training the RCAF’s fixed wing fighter pilots, have held a cessation of operation ceremony last Friday in Cold Lake, Alberta. The occasion also marked the beginning of a period of hiatus for the RCAF’s fixed wing training ops. This decision stems from the air force’s decision to transition its current CF-18 fleet to the F-35A. As of now it is yet unknown how long the RCAF will cease its flight training ops for.
Tumblr media
CT-155 Hawk ends its 24-year service with the RCAF
The decision to phase out the aging CT-155 fleet has been long forthcoming. With the RCAF’s contract with CAE for training its pilots on the CT-155 ending this year and the decision to acquire F-35s approved, the time to overhaul the Hawks have finally come. The CT-155 Hawks, originally built to the Hawk 115 standard, is based on a 30 plus year old design at heart, despite its upgrades. A total of 22 aircraft were initially delivered to the RCAF, mainly flying with 419 squadron and a handful with 2 Canadian Forces Flying Training School (CFFTS / 2e École de pilotage des Forces canadiennes)
For the last 24 years the CT-155 Hawk has served with the RCAF as their main advanced trainer aircraft, serving as the last step before student pilots moved onto the CF-18 Hornets. A typical training course for a fixed wing fighter would go through four training phases, of which Phase III and IV would be on the CT-155. Student pilots would spend a total of 80 flying hours in the CT-155 initially at CFFTS during Phase III training on before moving onto 419 TFTS for Phase IV. During Phase III training the fast-jet candidates train on basic manoeuvres, which upon completion are awarded their Pilot’s Wings. Phase IV involves 48.9 flying hours of basic fighter training in preparation for their roles on the CF-18. Despite the airframe’s outdated origins, the CT-155 was fitted with a modern glass cockpit with multifunction displays and Heads-Up Display that uses symbology similar to that on the CF-18, along with basic avionics such as Hands On Throttle And Stick (HOTAS) for preparation on flying 4th generation fighter aircraft.
However, with the RCAF’s decision to replace the aging CF-18 fleet with the F-35A, the need for a new training jet to prepare for the 5th generation fighter has become apparent. Especially with the Canadian government’s deal to buy 88 F-35As being announced on Jan. 9, 2023, the Hawk fleet have started to become outdated. While the RCAF is in search for a suitable training aircraft, the national fast jet training program has been put on hold.
RCAF to turn to NATO partners for pilot training in the meantime
During its period of hiatus, the RCAF will partner with its allies to train their future fighter pilots. One of the first steps of this interim solution is mainly through the Euro-NATO Joint Jet Pilot Training (ENJJPT) program based at Sheppard Air Base, Texas. Future RCAF pilots will also be diverted to other NATO countries with similar programs such as the Fighter Lead-in Training (FLT) in Finland and the International Flight Training School in Italy. Officials have noted that there will be two instructors and six students in Italy by 2025. The ENJJPT in the US offers the USAF’s updated T-38, which the RCAF have been part of since the program’s beginning in 1981. From now there will be up to seven students sent to the US under the scheme. Finland, another country that operates the F/A-18, will be able to offer the RCAF students another variant of the Bae Hawk as part of their program. Most notably, IFTS in Italy is also currently training RAF students due to the ongoing issues with their training pipeline back home. Currently the IFTS offers a training course based on the T-346. The T-346 can provide adequate training for 5th generation aircraft with most equipment that can be found on modern frontline fighter aircraft such as Voice Control Inputs (VCI), Helmet Mounted Display (HMD), and even an NVG module for the HMD allowing for night operations training.
According to LCol Kean on the day, while the squadron is on hiatus from operations its personnel will support other units at 4 Wing Cold Lake, awaiting the planned reactivation of the squadron in the early 2030s. Until then, the squadron will remain administratively active, so that it can resume its role as the RCAF’s Tactical Fighter Training Squadron. On the other hand, the CT-155 Hawks will eventually move to the Canadian Forces School of Aerospace Technology and Engineering at Canadian Forces Base Borden, Ontario, where they will support the training of RCAF aircraft technicians.
While no official program has set to replace the CT-155, it appears that Boeing is already making its move to pitch its T-7A Red Hawk as the next generation fighter training aircraft to the RCAF. Developed in conjunction with Saab, the T-7A won the USAF’s T-X program in 2018 to replace the T-38 fleet. Former general officer Charles Sullivan has been on record that “I would love to see the Snowbirds fly the T-7.” With the T-7A being the newest of the current generation advanced trainer aircraft, it should be carefully noted if the program would secure its first export customer in the coming years.

[ FIVE SCARS ]  (Jackson, messy exes?)
𝐀 𝐂𝐎𝐋𝐋𝐄𝐂𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍 𝐎𝐅 ‘𝐅𝐈𝐕𝐄 𝐓𝐈𝐌𝐄𝐒’ 𝐃𝐑𝐀𝐁𝐁𝐋𝐄 𝐏𝐑𝐎𝐌𝐏𝐓𝐒 // always accepting!! — [ FIVE SCARS ]  send for the five times the sender almost asks the receiver about their scars the the one time they do.
i. He can see the other staring at his lips and knew why right away.
Jackson grinned at his fellow Guard, the other only a few years younger than him but with such a serious look on his face, and teasingly said to try not make it obvious that he wanted to kiss him right then and there. His response was a deeper frown and an exasperated sigh that had an air of disappointment.
He could tell that he wanted to ask him about it, but there were bad memories tied with it that he'd rather keep to himself for now.
ii. Without thinking, Cor reached out and ran his thumb over the tender scar on his right cheekbone. Jackson hissed slightly, the fletching cut still stung at the touch. He tried to compromise with some of the Crownsguard trainers by learning to shoot with a bow and arrow as well as a crossbow. While he did well with them, it simply wasn't the same and he wasn't as effective with them as he was with a gun.
He grabbed the other's hand and gently bite down on it in retaliation.
iii. They were lazing about on his couch when Cor noticed the slightly raised line on his right forearm. Jackson was half-asleep when he heard the other hum in thought, feeling his eyes on the scar.
"Don't." He murmured before slumbering. It wasn't even his worst scar to date.
iv. It was after their first night together that Cor finally saw the scar on his left shoulder.
The look on Jackson's face was enough to tell him that he wasn't ready to talk about it, so he let it be.
v. It was after they broke up that he could feel Cor's eyes on his shoulder every now and then.
He never got to tell him about it before then, never feeling quite ready to relive what had happened to him then. It certainly explained why one never saw the sniper in a sleeveless shirt, even during the warmer days in Insomnia. Such was one day when he felt his ex look at him worriedly as the temperature rose in the afternoon.
Jackson turned away to look for shade, lest he passed out from a heat stroke.
ø. The fall on Insomnia was a cold, sobering moment of how short and fleeting life was.
It was while they were camped for the night when Cor finally asked about the dark scar on his shoulder, cautious and allowing him room to refuse an answer.
"— I was eight at the time it happened—"

We’re celebrating this leap year day with one of the most impressive and terrifying leaps in eventing – the leap of faith that is the Leaf Pit at Burghley. It’s one of those cross country fences that looks hella fun when I’m safely settled on my sofa enjoying the spectacle, but in real life – I’d want to be totally encased in around 24 layers of bubble wrap if I ever found myself looking down from the top of a horse up there, and for there to be a giant and generously-filled kids’ ball pit at the bottom, (also, ideally my mount would be more hobby horse than 5* fit eventer).
However you spend your bonus day, go eventing!

As February draws to a close and we feel a sniff of spring in the air, Badminton approaches. Fences and camera crews and sponsors and tradestands and entries… it’s all going on at Badminton – read all about it in this month’s Director’s Blog.
Mistakes happen, of course they do – it’s what you do with them that counts. Rather than being embarrassed when we mess up, and going all defensive and blaming whoever and whatever is at hand, if we see our mistakes as opportunities, we’re more likely to grow from what went down rather than being weighed down by our whoopsie. Here’s some handy techniques for reaping the benefits that making mistakes can bring us.
Our choice of tack, and how we fit it, can be mighty controversial – there are so many opinions in the equestrian world. So it’s a good thing when actual scientific research is undertaken into the effect of tack on horse welfare, like this paper on nosebands and the increased stress levels horses display when they are fitted tightly, so much so that the report concludes: “On ethical grounds, the use of relentless pressure to eliminate oral behaviors in pursuit of a competitive advantage may be difficult to justify”.
Becoming unconsciously uncoupled from your horse is something we riders have to take on the chin from time to time – but when you’re analyzing it with your trainer or explaining your lame limp in the office, how do you phrase the fact that your horse basically dumped you? For all you horse/word geeks out there, here’s an interesting list of ways to describe hitting the deck. As an aside, I am in fact one of those ‘once in a blue moon’ riders who’ve come straight off the back of the horse – I call it the ‘didn’t-duck-under-the-tree-branch-quick-enough’ kind of fall.
And finally, as a champion of horses, books and awesome women, I couldn’t resist sharing this image of the Pack Horse Librarians in Kentucky. Traversing creek beds called Hell-for-Sartin, Troublesome, and Cut Shin, these tough gals took to horseback to deliver books and magazines to people who otherwise wouldn’t have access to reading materials. Let’s hear it for these inspirational horsewomen.
Video Break
A couple weeks ago I shared the story of Shariah Harris, who was trailblazing on the polo pitch as the first Black woman to play in the US Open Women’s Polo Championship. From a single-income household in inner-city Philadelphia, Shariah’s introduction to the sport began with a literal wrong turn – which led her directly to her destiny. When her mom accidentally took the wrong road, they came upon the Work to Ride site, a program which involves urban youth in equestrian sports, and the rest, as they say, is history. Which is what Shariah made as she took to the pitch recently in the US Open Women’s Polo Championship. About her role as trailblazer, she says, “The more exposure I attract the more others will see and follow, then I won’t be the only one anymore”. Check out Shariah’s story in today’s Video Break.

-- Sinnoh Arc II: Journeying (III)
Tumblr media
Getting to see Floaroma Town and its surroundings over the next two days was interesting to Leon as himself, his Decidueye, Celeste, and Lancelot set out from the small flowery town that was supposedly home to more Shaymins this coming time of year and headed towards the Valley Windworks. Witnessing some passing Drifloon and Drifblim, as well as the giant Wind Turbines that powered the local cities was truly a sight. It was clear and beautiful today too with a slight chill in the air. Nothing too bad -- and not even the occasional trainer could stop them but soon enough they were reaching Eterna Forest.
A dense place that reminded him of the Weald and Tangle respectively, and not to mention Grandcrest Ranch. Finding their way through it proved to be a bit of a challenge, however. There were the occasional trainer that afterward would point them in the direction of the exit, but it was still... well... somehow he was getting lost even with Celeste and Lancelot’s help... or was he? Something about the Forest felt off -- more off then the Fae-enlaced places he had been before. It all came to make sense rather quickly however when a Gengar made itself known and headed towards a old building that Leon would come to know as the Haunted Chateau... or so Celeste was able to translate by a passing Misdreavus.
Staring at it for a time, Leon considered going in, but... well, it would be rude to disturb a place that such as this in his eyes. It felt like walking over a grave in some ways. That being said, the forest seemed to... let up in realizing he wasn’t going to fall for their tricks and while they could easily go to Eterna City now, it was already nightfall and trekking in the dark would only turn them around. So Leon chose to set up camp there in the forest as brave as he was and while he and his pokemon were happy to be outdoors, they were approached by wild pokemon ghost and grass-type alike who joined in on the fun.
Leon found himself enjoying this forest a bit too much as he was reminded by Bahamut they needed to be on the road. With that in mind, they headed to Eterna City on the following morn’. It took a day or so to reach there, but they were soon there and upon arrival, Leon wasted no time in challenging Gardenia to a three versus three -- her Cherrim, Torterra, and ace, Roserade, against Poli’ahu, Lancelot, and Bahamut with the idea of finally testing Mega Evolution. Lancelot against the Cherrim was no joke and it invoked Lancelot’s determination as he was on his last leg in evolving into a Luxio. Proving his worth in knocking out the Cherrim, he stood no chance against the Torterra. It took Poli’ahu next to take down the Torterra and unfortunately go down to the Roserade. Bahamut wasted no time in taking to the field, and in invoking Mega Evolution with their powerful bond...
... he made mince meat out of Gardenia and her Roserade both with barely a few scratches. Receiving his second badge, Leon thanked her and heeded her advice to head to Hearthome City next. For now though, Leon would need to see his ‘mons got some rest and Lancelot celebrated his evolution.

#onthisday in 1946 the first Hawker Sea Fury Mk X flew. Powered by the Bristol Centaurus 18 engine the Mk X had a top speed of 465 mph, range of 710 miles with a service ceiling of 36,000 ft.

Hawker Sea Fury | Classic Warbirds
The Sea Fury had its roots in the Hawker Tempest Mk III, which would become the Hawker Fury to meet Specification F.2/42, then to meet a revised Specification F.2/43. The Royal Navy were also interested in the aircraft and the design was modified to meet Royal Navy Specification N.7/43. Hawker would work on the Royal Air Force design, named the Fury, while Boulton Paul would work on the naval version, the Sea Fury.
Six prototypes had been ordered by the end of 1943, with one kept back to be used as a test airframe. Two would be powered by the Rolls-Royce Griffon engine, another two powered by the Bristol Centaurus XXII engine and the final prototype would have the Bristol Centaurus XII engine. The 1st September 1944 saw the first of the prototypes fly, when the Bristol Centaurus XII engined version made its first flight. This was followed a couple of months later by one of the Rolls-Royce Griffon powered prototypes which flew on the 27th November 1944, with a Napier Sabre VII engine replacing the Rolls-Royce Griffon fitted to the aircraft later on.
Tumblr media
During April 1944 production contracts were placed for 200 Hawker Furys for the Royal Air Force and 200 Hawker Sea Furys for the Fleet Air Arm, of which Boulton Paul would build 100. As the Second World War (1939 – 1945) ended the RAF cancelled their order, but development of the Sea Fury carried on. The first Sea Fury prototype flew on the 21st February 1945 powered by the Bristol Centaurus XII engine and featured an arrester hook. It wouldn't be for another eight months until the first fully navalised Hawker Sea Fury prototype flew when, powered by a Bristol Centaurus XV engine, it took to the skies on the 12th October 1945.
During January 1945 the Boulton Paul contract for 100 Sea Furys had been cancelled which left 100 on order. Half of these were completed as Sea Fury Mk Xs, with the first example flying on the 7th September 1946, and the third aircraft was sent to HMS Victorious (R38) during late 1946, early 1947 for trials. Powered by the Bristol Centaurus 18 engine the Sea Fury Mk X had a top speed of 465 mph, range of 710 miles with a service ceiling of 36,000 ft. Armament was four 20mm cannons. The Sea Fury entered service in August 1947, when No. 803 Naval Air Squadron, Royal Canadian Navy received the type to replace their Supermarine Seafires, with Nos. 778 and 787 Naval Air Squadron of the Fleet Air Arm receiving theirs the next month.
Tumblr media
The Sea Fury FB.11 was the next variant and was the most produced. Powered by a 2,480-hp Bristol Centaurus 18 engine, it had a top speed of 460 mph, range of 700 miles and a service ceiling of 35,800 ft. Armament consisted of four 20mm cannons, twelve 3-in rocket projectiles and 2,000lb bombs.
The Hawker Sea Fury, along with the Fairey Firefly, would provide the 'heavy attack' element for the Royal Navy and would be used during the Korean War (1950 – 1953) and a Sea Fury shot down a MiG-15 on the 9th August 1952. One of the few piston-engined aircraft to shoot down a jet aircraft.
Tumblr media
By the time production ended 860 Hawker Sea Furys had been built and it was the last piston-engined fighter to serve with the Fleet Air Arm, staying in service until 1953. A number of aircraft were also converted to Sea Fury T.20 two-seater trainers during 1950.
