My son got married today and I couldn't have been a prouder mother of the groom. I can hardly believe it— he and Mary are both so young still, but then again, so was I. Mary's parents, Agustín and Lorena, insisted on a Catholic church wedding, not like my courthouse wedding to Héctor. Gloria was so happy to be a bridesmaid and show off her dress, though of course she knows today is all about Salvador and Mary. Sal is going to move in with Mary and her family and while I'm sad to see him leave our modest apartment, I know he is in great hands with his new wife.

It’s worth revisiting what we mean when we say we trust a showrunner. I’d rather we didn’t say it at all. We don’t actually know them, and they’re just human. They’re going to make writing decisions we find shortsighted or painful or less creatively effective than an entire fandom’s collective output. They're in the writing trenches; they don't get to analyze everything to the depth we do.

But if we do say we trust them, let’s stop meaning that we trust the story to mean the same thing to them that it does to us. We tend to love one character or another most; they tend to love the story as a whole. Let’s find writers we trust to do justice to the story they’re telling for their own sakes. Each of us brings our past and our inner selves to the stories; so do they. For OFMD, Jenkins has said he’s writing a story about masculinity, and the ways we’ve got it wrong.

Even Ed and Stede and their love are secondary to that — that’s why they have to split up repeatedly; they have to heal and reorient their own sense of themselves and their community and their masculinity even more than they need to love each other. And in Jenkins’ narrative Izzy (and Hornigold, and CJ, and Ed’s dad) stands in for the real-world men who keep pushing their sons and friends and students and partners back toward a masculinity that hurts them deeply. Jenkins is showing how they do it without even understanding why it hurts or how it could be different.

And Stede got his blessing from Mary, but Ed never got an apology, or a blessing, or any understanding from the rest; so Jenkins had Izzy stay around long enough and gain enough depth to understand how to see him, to give Ed his blessing. That was part of the story Jenkins needed to tell — the moment someone formative who hurt you sees what they’ve done and makes it right.

As to what else it could have meant, who else he could have been or was to us — that’s what fandom is for.

Short Backstory

Lucas "Luke" Larson Tremaine-Westergaard was born to Drizella Tremaine and Prince Hans Westergaard on the isle of the lost the same year and day Hannah Hook was. He was the 3rd youngest of his siblings, only older than Dotty and Dizzy and grew up in Tremaine manner alongside his siblings and cousins.

When he was 3, his mother dropped him off at Zarina's Daycare class where he met one Hannah Artemis Villa Princeps-Gothel-Hook. The two quickly became inseparable and started to do everything together-- which also meant that the two of them also did every together with Skia, who was Hannah's surrogate sister and bestfriend since birth.

When he and Hannah were five, they and Skia began to get homeschooled together alongside their other friends. Which lead to them earning one of the best educations on the isle. He was there when Hannah won her ship in the famous poker game when they were 6.

He was there when he got her hearing aid and goggles. He was there when when her mother died. He's always been there for her. Through thick and thin. He and Hannah and Skia always caused mischief together and with their friends. He's had a crush on Darcy since they were 10 and has always wanted to be a famous cook, racer, and flim director when he grew up.

He hates his father's family as well as his mother and grandmother and cannot wait to escape from the isle so he can go explore the world with his bestfriends. People call him Hannah's twin/triplet and her shadow, and well... they aren't exactly wrong. Because he's always there for her. He's a horror fan and a bit narcissistic but he's nowhere near as bad as mother. He fears that he'll turn out like those who have come before him and desperately wants to be better. Luke's greatest wish is to escape the isle with his cat-- Lightning--, his family, and his crew alive. That's all he wants. And he's willing to do anything to get it.

He is very protective of his friends and usually wins fights when it comes to defending them.

He doesn't always like or get along with Hannah's friends but he will put up with them for her.

Luke is almost always cooking for his family and friends while also fulfilling his duties at Curl up and dye, and at the Storm Bringer.

He spent a good portion of his life making little movies starring his friends.

It is very hard to get him mad. And when he is mad, you better run for the hills because this boy is terrifying when he's angry.

Salvador's Journal

We just got a letter from Aunt Dolores that my grandmother died. And not long after that, her partner Helen also caught ill and died, presumably of a broken heart. I felt sad and fell into Mom's arms like I was a little boy again. I didn't see Grandma often but I always loved her stories and how she taught me about gardening. I'll miss her a lot, just like I miss Dad. I need to remember him and now I must be strong and comfort Gloria and tell her about our family so she remembers.

We took the train down to Oasis Springs for the funeral of my grandma Consuelo. It was the first time I had been in all my life, and maybe someday I'll visit again. A lot of my dad's relatives were there, his aunts and uncle and cousins— just like Grandma, they are all a part of me.

Picture this; Not only does Hannah Hook sneak Skia out of the barrier in crow form but she also sneaks out her other bestie, Luke Tremaine-Westergaard (Evie's younger half brother) and the core four's pets.

How do FG, Coach Jenkins, the core four, and the main aks react (she nices Chad and Audrey up a considerable amount mind you).

And Luke basically lives in her closet until it is found out, either at the end of d1 or between d1 and d2.

And what about the heroes of his parents' (Aka Hans and Drizella) stories?

That would be hilarious.

FG would probably put the two of them on probation. This isn't much of a problem for Luke. He was raised by Lady Tremaine, after all. He has the manners of a lord (the better to marry a princess one day).

It's an alternate history novel abt the 1st woman president working to balance her ambitions as president (including civil rights and labor reform) with her secret sapphic relationship. She is willing to do whatever it takes (including a bearded marriage with her mlm best friend) to get what she wants and her media savvy gives me real CJ Cregg vibes. It also ft. a subplot abt arson at the White House and an entirely queer main cast, really fleshed out characters, and a really satisfying ending!
