I jumped and jumped on top of him and he didn't wake up!” The paper doll nods in agreement, and Qing-gugu laughs. Laughing is right! Jumping on Xian-gege is really fun!

so I know I got this ask literally about 10,000 years ago @ehyde and when I was really unwell so I didn't get around to it, but I ran across it today and wanted to answer, so here we go:

I can tell you the order I went into it in, but I'm not sure I can recommend a definitive way, since there's novels and side-novels and a game and just. There's a lot. So, let's go with the assumption we're just looking at movies/series? I would honestly recommend watching all of the series with a friend, because it's a very I Didn't Say This Was A Good Franchise, I Said I'm Having A Good Time kind of deal.

The order I went through with it was:

Ultimate Note - needs some contextual detail still and assumes a familiarity with the franchise, but is chronologically relatively early on and was a pretty fun intro for me and does a lot of belated work to make the rest of the TV universe, as it were, make sense. You definitely notice that on a rewatch. It also has a lot of interaction between my two favourite side-characters, Bitchy Pink Twink (Xiao Hua) and Disaster Bisexual Immortal (Hei Xiazi). This is on YouTube and IQIYI. When I was Twitter, this was the era I was primarily obsessed with, if that helps?

Sand Sea/Tomb of the Sea - I know for a fact this is on YouTube since that's where I rewatch it all the time. This is overall my favourite in terms of narrative. It also has my very favourite Hei Xiazi. Xiao Hua is pretty absent, but you know, still my favourite series overall. It also has Xue Yang's actor pre-CQL as one of the characters.

Renuion: Sound of the Providence (2 seasons) - this is the one that was a lot of people's gateway drug, on the grounds that it has Zhu Yilong from Guardian in it. I still have not finished this. I have accepted I may never finish this. I enjoy Baron Chen as an actor generally, though, and while this isn't my favourite role I've seen him in, he's got a great Hei Xiazi intro and energy.

You do need to have seen Sand Sea in particular, imo, for the two spin-off movies that I personally care about, which are:

Reunion: Escape from the Monstrous Snake - this is a little spin-off Hei Xiazi centric action movie with a monster featured in Sand Sea showing up. I feel like you need to have fallen into the Hei Xiazi fan pit for this to really hit for you; otherwise it's a pretty enjoyable but not life-changing action movie. Unfortunately, I am in the pit.

Reunion: Mystery of the Abyss - this one is legit colloquially referred to as the HeiHua movie, because it basically is. They are the main focus of the film, and honestly I think you really need to be in the HeiHua version of the fan pit for this one to land. It's again, a little action web-movie that is elevated by the two leads. There's plans for there to be another movie with these two.

Both of these movies have Ji Chen (the Sand Sea Hei Xiazi) reprising his role and he's pretty beloved as the character at this point.

If you're interested in the novels, I have only read one but I can always talk about that too!! This is the least comprehensive post on this franchise and I am so sorry, I'm sure there's others though and I can always answer more questions because I deeply love this nonsense?

Ficbinding: The Exorcism of Lan Yuan by EHyde

Lan Yuan has been possessed for as long as he can remember. Surely, when he finally tells Hanguang-jun, his father will keep him safe?

I've been bookbinding for 2+ years and this is my first binding of my own work! Ignore the unfortunate glue stain on the front cover

Since this is my own fic I can be as self-indulgent as I want. I did a hardcover B6 size book even though the fic is only 5k. I made a title page in six layers of translucent paper, with one more word on each layer, so that at first look, the name "Lan Yuan" is almost completely faded away. Rather than place the title on the cover, I made a cutout window with one more additional translucent layer.

The cover fabric is shot dupioni, blue that shifts to red when seen at an angle. I also made red endbands. The typeset itself is minimal, with wide margins, set in Coelacanth (one of my favorite text fonts).

The Dedue scarf (or more of a wrap really) I've been screaming all the way through knitting is done!!!

Final dimensions are about 8 ft long by 22 inches wide, and about 14.6 oz dry. I used 7.25 balls of Knit Picks Palette fingering yarn (50g, 100% Peruvian highland wool) in Marine Heather, one ball in Almond, and about half a ball of the same yarn in Garnet Heather. The smaller motifs are your standard 3 yarn Fair Isle knitting and the larger is 3 color ladderback jacquard at the suggestion of @themikecollective .

(Credits: shout-out to @eaglehorn for floating me their chart for the pattern as a starting point (I did my own chart for the smaller scale motifs but used their chart as the starting point and for the larger scale motif) and also shout-out to @themikecollective and @ehyde for suggestions on how to manage the floats on the larger motif. The medal (for display purposes) was purchased from @gizmoforge .)

I'm now going to snuggle in and be toasty warm for the rest of the winter.

Three similar versions of Rare the man that’ll hold to faith by Fahye, typeset by EHyde, bound by myself! Two of these bindings have endpapers of handmade marbled paper by Æthereal Press (thanks @aetherseer <3).

I was so excited to get this fantastic typeset, in which EHyde used a number of historical decorations from Klemscott Press on the title page and section dividers. I cannot get over all the cool decorative bits in this typeset you guys. Just look at that title page!! I had so much fun reading this fic in hard copy and giggling over all the little teeny leaves and fancy letters.

I chose to use one of the smaller decorative grape vine designs for the cover, since I have not had good luck using the cricut or hand-writing on title letters small enough for these spines. I think it looks pretty neat :D

Decisions were made: I like using small books to try out new techniques, and for these I tried out stitching in the endpapers. That was uhh not the greatest idea for something I intended to give away tbh, but I think the results still look alright. This endpaper style is extremely uncommon in recently published books, though one might find it in fancy editions of books made around a hundred years ago. I think it’s pretty cool and I like that it can subtly emphasize a handmande book being constructed differently from most of what bookstores can sell! I should have paid closer attention to matching my tapes and the lining of my covers. The gapping is a cosmetic problem more than a structural problem, and they should be quite sturdy, though I do wish I had been able to line these up better.

Materials: Laser printed text on archival paper, letter size folded sextodecimo; cotton thread and beeswax stitching with archival paper scrap for reinforcement; the case is scrabooking paper and bookcloth, archival PVA and bookboard, and metallic cover decoration made of heat-transfer vinyl. Endpapers are either archival scrapbooking paper or handmade marbled paper with some shimmery accents. Cotton scrap faux-endbands and unknown scrap ribbon for the bookmarks.

WIP meme

I was tagged by @evilhasnever to find paragraphs in my WIPs with the words gaze, neck, step in them. What a delight to be asked! Thank you :)

Unfortunately I do not have a WIP at the moment, so I'm choosing the last thing I wrote, because I was still going through it and making minor improvements even this morning.

Nie Mingjue’s gaze finds him, then slides off, which is an improvement on the glares he used to level, when Ziyao’s father was still alive. Beside him, Nie Huaisang gives Ziyao an eyeroll of commiseration, before they both bow to Jiang Wanyin and to all the assembled nobility.

neck

They come out together, hand in hand. The first is tall and slender with a neck like a swan. She wears an emerald green round collared robe and shoes covered with embroidered flowers. Her hair is the dark brown-black of good soil and wound around a bianfang stick in the Manchurian style.

step - the best I can do for this is 'steps'

The horse clatters up the steps of Koi tower with its caparison jingling, and Zixuan realizes when it is only feet from the top that the rider is Zewu-Jun’s wife. She is beautiful in a mannish way but goodness, what a barbarian!

However, most of you probably follow me for fanbinding, and I’m not personally comfortable earning money from something that someone else gave to the community as a gift. So unfortunately, I won’t be doing fanbinding commissions (with on exception). Here are some examples of what I will bind:

Your own writing (original or fic - this is my fanbinding exception)

Rebinds (ie you supply a paperback, I convert it to a hardcover)
