Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire Review
Well hello there ladies and gents, today I have my first review for this blog in quiet some time in Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. So have a look below and you’ll be able to hear my thoughts on the film via the latest episode of my podcast; Film Focus. The latest film in the Monsterverse has made some waves in the last few days, and despite some mixed reviews from critics and audiences,…

Was anyone going to tell me that the Boy and the Heron is only the international title. The original and real title is How Do You Live?, which is the title of pre existing book that is referenced in the film. More importantly it made me stop obsessing over what makes the heron a deuteragonist so essential his bond with Mahito is crucial to the title and instead look at the themes of progressing in life and over coming grief, something I consider to be a much more moving part of the film. Deeply upset that I was working off that title which feels much blander than How Do You Live. Help

How so-called "Died and came back wrong" fans look when real zombie horror comes at them:
if more zombie horror focused more on the "died and came back wrong" aspect and less on jumpscares and guys in halloween makeup screaming and biting people and jerking the camera around i would enjoy them more

“the story was too simple and predictable” hard disagree. The plot did not need to be this crazy complicated scheme. Because the movie was never about the objective plot. Or the worldbuilding. Or the plot twists. It’s about NIMONA and what she represents. The insane amount of layers to the allegories behind her shapeshifting and the wall and the institute are what make this movie so good. It’s simple but it’s EFFECTIVE and it works SO WELL. If the movie was focused more on the world around them instead of the central characters it probably would have lost so much of that sweet sweet symbolism and allegory you get when they interact.

yea idgaf about barbie not getting an oscar nomination or whatever when women in palestine are dying in childbirth, forced into unmedicated and not medically safe labor bc what choice do they have rn, contracting infections because they don't have sanitary products for periods, having to use tent scraps as menstrual products, using medications to delay periods, ect. like its a movie and those are real people who would vastly benefit from some real actionable feminism like supporting bisan in her call for a strike, continuing to boycott, and continuing to support palestinians overall

some stills of sets i designed for pharell williams's PIECE BY PIECE [2024] that i spotted from the new trailer from focus features! i worked as a concept artist on this, and i can't wait to see everything on the big screen and share all the artwork i created this october! so much love to the modelers and lighters and all the production artists who took my designs from concept to final render, because they look AMAZING.

Artists who admit to not knowing small details about their characters and worldbuilding have inadvertently given better advice than any character design post on social media tbh. as fun as it is to come up with what your guys would order from a restaurant or the contents of their backpack or their favorite color I've run into very few people who can leave that stuff in a story (or even leave it offscreen as paratext) without it being distracting and poorly written because it's rarely in service of the narrative. a lot of that is def just down to personal taste, but it feels more like designing characters for a TTRPG
