Another WIP that has been here for a while...
Anyway, I hope you enjoy it.

Chapter 3
“We’re still looking for a cot, but you can leave your…” Scarlett’s eyes dropped to the single backpack on Katia’s hand. “Your bag there.”
“Thank you.” Katia said softly. “I’m sorry you have to share your space with me.”
Scarlett cleared her throat. “Those were orders.”
“Right.” Katia dropped her bag by the corner. “So… Now what?”
“Here.” Scarlett passed her a watch. “You have to keep this on at all times.”
Katia analyzed the object in her hand. “They ran out of collars?”
Scarlett pressed her lips together, because she didn’t want to show her amusement at Katia’s silly joke. There was something about the other woman that made her seem so fragile.
By Katia’s own admission, she wasn’t some delicate flower that needed protection. Alongside her brother, she had killed a shitload of people, but… She seemed lost, anxious, tense…
Yes, she had come to a strange place and surrendered herself, putting herself and her partner at the mercy of the Joes. However, Scarlett felt as if this wasn’t the problem, exactly. Katia just looked like she was permanently scared, afraid of the world.
“Is he…” Scarlett cleared her throat. “Is that guy threatening you? Is he forcing you to…”
“Oh no.” Katia was quick to assure her. “He isn’t. He’s not the nicest guy around, but he isn’t a complete asshole. Very annoying sometimes.” She cleared her throat, realizing she was rambling about 47. “But he isn’t forcing me. It’ll probably sound strange to you, but he set me free.”
Scarlett frowned. “How?”
“My whole life was spent running.” Katia scoffed, clearly at herself. “I was always paranoid, scared, afraid to stay too long anywhere. I never understood why I needed to do that, just that I did. I was looking for someone, not knowing why…” She paused. “Then he came in. And everything became crystal clear for the first time ever.”
“Are you…” Scarlett trailed off. “You and him… Are you…”
Katia’s expression grew alarmed. “No. Ew!” She shook her head like the mere idea was disgusting to her. “No way. I don’t think  that he has in him to even consider something like that, but even if he did… No.” She shuddered.
“If you’re sure…”
***
Great. They put him with the ninja.
At least 47 didn’t have to worry about conversation.
He worried about Katia. Which felt odd.
He wasn’t used to worrying about anyone -he hardly worried about himself. However, he couldn’t stop this… Thing. Somehow, along the way, he started caring about Katia, and he didn’t know how to… Not.
His mind was usually a calm place, where plans were made and then executed in perfect order. There was no space for fear or uncertainty, because that was how agents died. 47 had been raised and trained to do a single job, and he could do it very well.
Now he was a little worried he might not be able to do it anymore.
Doubting himself was also new to him. And it wasn’t that he was doubting his training or his abilities; he was a bit concerned about his motivation.
He’d never considered the idea of ‘freedom’. 47 only knew one way to live, and not being an agent never crossed his mind. He was made for it -quite literally -and the idea of just leaving ICA had never occurred to him until recently.
As in, last week.
The point was, 47 knew how to do one thing. He did it very well -exceedingly so -but it wasn’t the type of skill that the so called ‘normal people’ had. If he left the agency, what was he supposed to do?
Mercenary work sounded painfully boring, and he wasn’t about to start working for some government.
Even he had his limits.
“Yo, Snake!” A black man stopped by the door. “Is your new roomie all settled down?”
Snake Eyes turned to the newcomer, and so did 47, but neither of them deigned to reply to the comment.
“Wow…” The man drawled. “There’s two of you now. Great. I hope Scarlett is luckier with her roomie.”
That was true. Katia had also gotten a guard, a redhead by the name of Scarlett.
Original.
“I want to see Katia.” 47 said to the man that could actually answer him.
“In a minute, Ice Cube.” The man threw back. “First you need to put this on and promise not  to take it off.”
47 caught the watch thrown his way and eyed it. “And you’ll take my word for it?”
“No. After it’s on, it can’t be taken off. Otherwise it’ll explode.”
47 scoffed, but put the watch on. He couldn’t care less about their juvenile tactics, he just wanted to make sure Katia was okay.
She was probably very stressed about being in this closed space. He needed to talk to her before she decided to dismantle a jeep or something.
“I’ll take you to your Katia now.” The man continued. “I’m Ripcord, by the way.”
“I don’t care.” 47 informed him.
“Right…” Rip drawled. “You’re really one of those silent, tough types, hm?”
47 didn’t even reply as he started following the man down a hallway.
From the other end of it, the redhead -Scarlett- was coming straight at them.
“Scarlett.” Rip grinned at her. “Iceman here was looking for Katia.”
“Yeah… Actually, I wanted to talk to him for a minute.” Scarlett turned her attention completely to him.
47 arched an eyebrow, waiting for her to say whatever she wanted to.
“Scarlett…” Rip frowned. “Are you sure? This dude is… Weird.”
She sighed. “Yes, I’m sure, Rip.” She gave him a look. “I’ll take him to Katia after I talk to him.”
Ripcord obviously wanted to argue against leaving her alone with him, but eventually decided to just go. She waited until Rip was out of sight before turning back to the agent.
“I’m Scarlett. Katia said your name is 47?” She frowned.
“Yes.”
She was clearly waiting for him to say something else, but she realized it was pointless. “I’m not exactly sure what’s the connection between you and Katia.” She was clearly uncomfortable with this conversation. “She just told me it wasn’t romantic.”
47’s eyebrows went up. “It is not romantic.”
“Right. I know it’s none of my business…”
“I’m glad we had this conversation. May we go?”
She narrowed her eyes at him. “But…” She pressed. “I think she’s very tense. I don’t know her well, but to me it looks as if she’s one step from a full panic attack.”
“She doesn’t like feeling trapped and cornered and we’re under the desert. There are no windows, no exit points. She’s probably feeling very anxious right now.”
Scarlett frowned. “Is there any way to help her?”
“Why do you care?”
“I don’t know.” She admitted. “But she looks like she could really use some help, so…”
47 hummed. “There’s one thing that calms her down, but you’ll probably need to ask permission for that.”

This is my Transformers/GiJoe oc, her story is a mix of different Transformers iterations. Mainly of which being G1 with a little bit of TFP and GIJoe cartoon(s), etc. May post a chapter or 2 of the fanfic featuring her when ever I get back to writing it.
Eyes: Pearl Sapphire Blue (normal), Neon sapphire (iris) - Cyan (pupil) (Cyborg), Crimson (iris) - neon red (pupil) (Metallo)
(I created her far before the Rise of the beast movie existed)

Silence by Lady Jaye1 on FFNet.
https://m.fanfiction.net/s/5030580/1/Silence
GI Joe / XMen
Rated Teen
Unfinished as of 2014 but frankly worth reading anyway.
329k words.
This was actually the first fic I ever read! It's centered on Beach Head, featuring Snake Eyes, Lifeline, and Remy Lebeau | Gambit in the main spotlight, and the other main Joes and a good selection of xmen as side characters. The plot is a lot of fun, and I dont think any description I could come up with would do justice to its exploration of characterization and careful balance of plot, introspection, and goofball shenanigans.

'Til All Are One - Notes
I finally have my shit together! Kinda. This fic is archived on AO3. I'm trying to decide if it's worth posting it anywhere else. It has the highest Rating/Warnings combo on AO3 mostly for select scenes; the vast majority of it is vanilla. AO3's tagging system is a mess, so my tags got an overhaul today, and they'll probably need a future overhaul as more characters and pairings appear. I am leaving the comments/replies up so would-be readers can also check out the comments to get a feel for the content. Tag wrangling on Tumblr is constantly changing, and thanks to the sketchy status of how certain things get reported and blocked, I'm not going to put the actual fic content in these posts. I'll post the headers/tags/trigger warnings in the body of the post and link to the chapter on AO3.
Real places will exist in the fic (The United States, China, France, the Pacific Ocean, Minnesota, etc.) but I'm going to be replacing company/product/celebrity/politician names with "parody" names and pastiche placeholders. "The President of the United States" is pretty recognizable in any of the cartoons he's in, regardless if he's an actual caricature, because "old white guy in a suit" has historically been pretty representative. The feel of this fic is heavily inspired by the 80s G1 cartoon series, and they were great for making very generic but also very recognizable placeholder characters. When it comes to brands, I get a kick out of the anime habit of replacing brands with recognizable variants (7-Eleven becoming 8/11 or Burger King becoming Burger Knight) which also helps turn aside complaints about content. That said, relying on the crutch of "it's just a parody" or "it's a fake place" also let them get away with some absolutely gross and hurtful stereotypes, particularly when it came to people and places we weren't politically friendly to. There will be no "Abdul Fakkadi" or "Socialist Democratic Federated Republic of Carbombya" in my fic - that kind of crap is better left as relics of history to be observed and learned from but not repeated. That's the big reason I'm keeping place names real - it forces both me as a writer as well as readers of the fic to be better informed and more thoughtful toward the people, cultures, history, and natural environments of those places. At its core, this is a Transformers fic that draws inspiration from most of the Transformers media but isn't directly connected to any one canon. It's intended to be standalone enough that readers don't have to really know much backstory or many of the characters to jump in. It's arguably a crossover (and is now tagged as such on AO3 now that there are G.I. Joe characters involved), but it's less about putting a spotlight on the additional series and more about pulling those characters in to the Transformers story. You're a Transformers fan who never saw the 80s G.I. Joe cartoon and never read any of the comics or the TF crossover comics? No problem! Just like with the Transformers canon, this fic will fill in gaps (and create its own canon) so you don't need to have an in-depth knowledge of them. “I'd also argue that the IDW style writing in Earthspark is extra-insular because it's not just a mandate to keep with evergreen concepts, it's also now a moral issue as it was with many of those writers, to keep the franchise away from "chuds" and undesirables that probably bought Energon Universe comics like crazy.” Sorry if I sound overly nosy, but would you mind expanding on this??? I only recently got back into TF (with my only previous experiences being YEARS ago when I was a kid and didn’t even know who Shockwave was) so I’m a little out of the loop
Let's describe this so that it doesn't come across as a GriftTube rant or an apology for other writers.
IDW's comic writing was very insular, in that it was written almost like fanfic was. In fact, many of the writers, most infamously James Roberts, got their start in fanfic (Roberts having written the notoriously weird, tryhard novella Eugenesis), and were more than willing to import their characterizations from fanfics to the official comics, most infamously Star Saber, who was reimagined from a standard Autobot leader/single dad with an adopted kid into a religious fundamentalist of the worst kind, because that was the characterization Roberts used. Most of the IDW writers did not have a high opinion of the Japanese Transformers material (the hows and whys are their own articles, but the short version is - the fan wiki had a hate-on for the Japanese material and those fanfic writers were in that same circle). Most comic companies flat-out say this is a bad idea. Marvel Comics, in their submission guidelines for Epic Comics, call the phenomenon "Writing a comic about a comic", namely that your work is only of value to a specific section of fans who are already engaged with the material, and who want to see the material altered in such a way that it appeals to their biases (in this case, the writer's big anti-Japan, anti-super robot sentiments, and the desire to deconstruct Cybertronian society as Simon Furman laid out in Marvel).
This also included a lot, a LOT of gay romance. Roberts and other writers were clear why, they wanted to write romance, the character line was mostly male, so you were getting gay romance. This spiraled into a lot of issues with a focus on gender identity (after a very, VERY poorly received Arcee comic where she was essentially driven insane by a transition from male to female), and sexuality.
These comics sold horribly but built a very dedicated audience, the sort of audience that would probably have read fanfics breathlessly. So much so the writing started to leave a lot of openings, poorly described items, and loose plot threads that fanfic writers could build off of and write their own interpretations of, as a fanfic writer will often do when they want to get their audience more involved. But in terms of selling comics, they were poor sellers, to the point that an attempt at a combined shared Hasbro Universe, via the comic crossover Revolution, tanked, icing Hasbro's plan for one for nearly 7 years (with the Energon Universe trying again with a much more measured, controlled attempt and the film producers promising a GI Joe/Transformers crossover film).
The problem is that a lot of the criticism of the stories (we don't want to read about Transformers romance endlessly, you treat characters poorly, these crossovers make no sense) was often interpreted by the writers and the fans as "We hate gay people and trans people, we want stuff blowing up", and the writers who were supportive of such issues, doubled down, dismissing their critics as a small number of prejudiced malcontents. Some of the writers and fans of the writing of IDW also went on to help with other animated shows like Cyberverse, the War for Cybertron Trilogy, and Earthspark, most notably Nick Roche and Mae Catt. Both have been adamant about how important representation and life lessons are to their writing, with Catt out-and-out bragging on Twitter that she had two female characters kiss because she knew it would annoy people.
"I AM THE GAY AGENDA!"
Catt discussing her goals for EarthSpark on Twitter/X
All the shows I have just mentioned were also commercial failures. Cyberverse toys still clog toy shelves in discount retailers, the War for Cybertron series did so poorly that when the same writing team proposed a sequel based on the Legacy toy line, Netflix turned them down, and the Q4 reports show Earthspark was a commercial failure with many theorizing the only reason it's getting a Season 2 is because Hasbro wanted something on the air for their 40th anniversary, instead of having nothing in media besides comics until Transformers One comes out in the fall of 2024.
This leads to the final part of this explanation. The new comics from Skybound have seen fit to ignore most, if not all of IDW's contributions to the franchise, more focused on lots of action and basic but effective and strong characterizations serving to re-introduce the characters to people who have never read a Transformers comic or haven't watched Transformers media for decades. This is quite the opposite of Earthspark's focus on identity and life-lessons that were designed for the more insular fandom. And the criticisms of Skybound from the internet tend to focus on that, that they're appealing to an audience that didn't want what IDW was giving, so they're prejudiced. The thing is that the sales numbers don't lie, with many retailers pointing out that Skybound's take on the Transformers outsold comparable IDW releases 10 to 1.
I really hope all that helps clarify things. Like I said, I think that the writing being done essentially by fanfic writers, for fanfic writers created something that casual or non-fans were not going to engage with, but the fear that their critics were prejudiced in some way caused many of the writers to double down on those same habits, even when it's clear that the back-to-basics storytelling of Skybound is attracting far more readers.

for the fic writer asks — 7, 9, 14 :)
I did seven but
9. What inspired you to write your first fic?
14. Share a snippet. (WIP? Spain 3 and Conor/Mason if you want to skip to that bit.
My very first fandom was wrestling RPF which is like… it’s already fanfic. Pro wrestling is fandom, I won’t be convinced otherwise.
It had everything, sex, violence, magic, you could ship anyone with anyone… amazing. Although I don’t watch as much I go through stages of watching every week.
So becuase it’s me I think my first ship was probably the Hart family. So yeah, I’ve always skated every line of wrong.
Speaking of skating…The first thing I wrote (like aside from when I was a kid and wrote like thinly veiled barbie fanfic - she was not after men. I think she was with Sindy in one. I totally wrote one where Ken and GI Joe did whatever the ten year olds version of hooking up is. I think they kissed and got married. In a little diary.
And I had a whole saga where barbie got fed up of Ken and went off to be barbie of the jungle and all my stuffed toys were her minions. The jungle had an ocean view because I had a stuffed whale.
If I want something in my fics, I will make it work.
The first thing I posted was, oh god hockey? It doesn’t exist anywhere Mark Messier and Marty Mcsorely, was it the m’s? If you don’t know hockey one was the enforcer who protected the glamour players. If Martinez was a hockey player in that time period (although thinking back they were retired when I wrote them) he would be an enforcer. They met in a gay bar after someone ducked in from the rain.
I’m not joking it is only up since then. I wish I could say it was the second which was two juniors (think like Tino Liverermento and Lewis Hall) their first year in the league finding themselves and their sexuality and where they belonged. I don’t think it exists anywhere.
WIP
Mason / Conor “low winter sun”
There was an uneven distance between Conor and Mason. Deepening that last spring, when it was whisper upon rumour, and the whispers were as common as the daffodils that sprung up.
Slightly uphill, and a little off course. Getting out of breath walking with him. Shaving in the morning, talking to Mason’s reflection in a mirror. A tape delay, speaking across time zones. Throwing water in your face and looking onto him gone and a towel folded, polite as a hotel room.
Spain 3
It slips up on him, like a rush of cold water when he was expecting hot. Rio laughing and tussling over the ball with John, bright grin stretching his face, dark skin lit up like the light is falling just for him.
A slick greasy longing that he’s always pushed down. Held down by the warnings his father gave him, sniffing out Frank’s weakness as easily as he found him hiding from training.

OwO (RotB Spoilers)
THE FANFIC POTENTIAL
RotB Bee gets banned from going to drive in theaters by Optimus. Knockout also goes to drive in theaters. Furthermore, there's a character (military) named Bishop. First name not mentioned, that I noticed. It's either a reference to Prime, actually Leland Bishop (Silas), or I'm just crazy and brain going zoom. It's probably the last one, realistically
But the crossover potential is THERE. Primal is from Prime's past, present, and future. Travel across space time exists in this verse. MEANING it would be entirely possible for Knockout and Bee to stumble upon each other at a drive in theater.
Then there was also Mirage. Just. As a whole. He's a Porsche, he's a garbage truck, he's a Ferrari, he's a mech suit. What the fuck is he? Is he a shifter, like Makeshift? He can also make illusions, as per his namesake.
Mirage was a little bit annoying because he gave me, personally, a lot of secondhand embarrassment. But I do genuinely enjoy his existence because he's funny and he's got heart.
Oooh his paint so so fucked up at the end though. Mirage my beloved protected Noah. Got himself blown to pieces. Noah patched him up though, using spare parts. So he's a mishmash of spare parts and random colors now. Easy fix, if you find the right paint. Fic where Noah helps Mirage fix his paint when?
Also GI Joe at the end of that. Is there a Bishop in GI Joe? I don't know so until someone tells me otherwise, I'm conspiracy theorizing the hell out of Bishop because I Do Not Trust Him.
My general thoughts about the movie are best summarized as holy fucking shit. Two movies in, one good guy permadeath. Bee has the highest kill count of named characters, as he should. Scourge is a fucking cunt and I want to shove him into a pool of lava but Optimus beat me to it.
Unicron is here, but he's also not here. Trapped, not dead. Entirely able to return in a future movie. Primus is mentioned in passing conversation. I doubt Primus and Unicron would be able to duke it out on the big screens, because following TFP lore he is the core of Cybertron. But then, in TFP lore, Unicron is the core of Earth. Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't the last time Unicron was a world eater in Armada?
If they're trying to be G1 faithful I have to wonder if they're going to kill Optimus and transfer the Matrix to Hot Rod, but Hot Rod doesn't exist yet and the Matrix hasn't been mentioned. So then, if that's not the plan, how do they intend to permanently kill Unicron? It's not unlikely that he'd find new people like Scourge to hunt down a different key, if there is another key. Ultimate evil will find a way to consume and destroy until it is destroyed itself.
I genuinely loved the movie and I hope a third will be made, after the writer's strike. We don't need a second Bayverse disaster

Fic Writer Ask: 3, 8, 18, 30 :) have a good day
3. Are there any fics that inspired you to write what you do?
i read a Yu-Gi-Oh fanfic when i was like 12 or 13 that permanently altered my brain chemistry, i started writing miniature fics because i was so inspired and truly never stopped. i still go back and read it sometimes, it holds up (to me) lol.
8. How often do you reblog/comment on fics that you like?
not often enough tbh just because it takes me so long to read things between work and relationship and writing my own shit, so that by the time i finish something i just move on and internalize it and forget that i actually should be like Externalizing the fact that i liked something. resolution for 2024 is to Do Better lol
18. Do you have a WIP that you keep telling yourself you’ll eventually get back to, but deep down you know that’s probably a lie?
i will Always finish something, it just might take me 20 years to do it lol
30. Post a snippet from your current WIP without context - no more than 300 words.
“It would make you feel bad to go down to my car with me,” Joe said, teasing out David’s intention skillfully, better than he had any right to.
“If I thought we’d just snort shit I would feel less bad,” David said, voice dipping down, the same way his eyes continued to dip down and check on the other man’s lips, pulled in by them the same way his mind was pulled in by the promise of trouble. “But I know that’s not all that would happen.”
An indescribably pleased expression crossed the other man’s face, his smirk becoming a genuine, nonplussed smile. “You think you’re really hot shit,” he observed, sounding like the idea was both hilarious and - miracle of miracles - arousing.
It made David feel strong, sure of his worth in the way male attention often made him, and he nodded back to the other man’s amusement. “I know that I am.”
Joe was caught off guard by his brazenness, but the only tell he gave for certain was the way he turned his head just so, just slightly enough that the blade of his cheek was presented in place of his mouth. Refusing to balk, David tilted his face into the space between, eyes unwavering as they held the challenge in their depths, and Joe appeared caught, helplessly interested, gazing back at him with something dark, intriguing in the most ordinary of ways like a double-cherry.
If one of them made a wrong move, even just the barest shift of weight, their mouths would be on each other.

Writer emoji ask:
🤡 ✨ 💖
🤡 What’s a line, scene, or exchange you’ve written that made you laugh?
My first ever break up scene for Chrissy/Jason in Do or Die. Whenever I need a laugh, I go back and reread it. Why do I love giving Jason embarrassing dialogue so much, idk?? (bc he deserves that and worse lol). Here’s the part that makes me laugh the most:
"No, Jason, I'm not done yet, babe." Chrissy pressed the words out forcefully."You refuse to listen, and most importantly, you can't stop calling my friend, an innocent person by the way, a freak. I’m so tired of being the “perfect” girlfriend for you. And this is the last straw. This is over. We're done! "
She didn’t realize until the last word, but her voice had crescendoed to a yell. Her hands were shaking.
"You can't mean that Chrissy, not after everything we've been through. All the varsity games and parties, throwing up in my parent's bathroom because you pigged out while drunk?" Jason softened his voice just slightly. Chrissy cringed at the memories of purging and the lies she told to cover it up. Jason's voice got even quieter. "You were my first, Chriss. I even showed you my collection of GI Joes and let you touch the rare edition Lady Jaye with her shoulder patch. You know how private I am about my collection."
Tell me that last line didn’t make you giggle just a little lmao.
✨ Give you and your writing a compliment. Go on now. You know you deserve it. 😉
While I’m on a roll here, I’ll say I think my writing is fun and explorative for the characters I’ve come to love (though maybe not very realistic). I definitely enjoy reading my own work which I hope counts as a compliment lol
💖 What made you start writing?
Oh gosh, well for fanfic, my technical first ever fanfiction was for Twin Peaks. That original fic has been orphaned now lol, but I fell in love with those lovable crazy characters and dreamy timeless vibe. I still dabble in that fandom occasionally.
I picked up writing again when I saw Chrissy get done dirty by the Duffers and I NEEDED to right those wrongs for my own brain hahaha. And here we are almost a year later still going strong :")
Thank you for the ask bbg<3
Original Post if anyone else is in the mood to ask something :)

If you played with Barbie as a kid, what did you pretend?
I often reenacted similar versions of the same scenario again and again and I wonder now what that says about me as a person. A lot of times it was just Barbie decorating her house and changing her clothes. Sometimes she was a mermaid. Often she was a Mom. But the one that happened a lot was Barbie got kidnapped by bad guys, Ken panics because he doesn’t know what to do, and 12 inch GI Joe action figure rescues Barbie.
My fanfics are fairly often about women being rescued. What is with my obsession with rescue? Should I be worried?

hmmm, I really ended up writing nearly 20000 words of Gi Joe fanfic in the past week. this is more embarassing because I have way too many unfinished things. At least these are all more or less finished, they just sort of suck. Is it worse than the 40000 words of Naruto rare pair fanfic? probably not, since I gave myself an over use injury over that. and had to tell people, "Sorry, I have to take it easy on my wrists because I've been obsessively writing about these fictional ninjas..."

With Duke #2 due next week as people start to more openly debate Skybound's take on Hasbro properties vs. IDW's (this is not a debate in sales, retailers are claiming Skybound outsold IDW's comics at least 10 to 1), it's worth looking at the fandoms that developed around IDW's takes on Transformers and GI Joe (more Transformers, as GI Joe struggled with numerous reboots and attempts at making a more modern interpretation of the property before the license was yanked by Hasbro) and why they might not gel with Skybound's more casual-friendly approach. Ramble under the cut:
IDW's Transformers fanbase was one that was insular by design. Not in the "you need to understand this concept from a toy line in 1989" insular, or the "you'll be lost if you didn't read Simon'Furman's Alignment novella", way, but more insular in the concepts that they focused on. Bot-on-bot romance, usually between male robots (James Roberts flat out said he was going to write romance, and went with male/male because it was a toyline full of men). A very notable disdain for concepts that would alter that perception, hence the villainization of the Japanese characters and the Beasts, because many of the fanfic writers hailed from unironic "TRUKK NOT MUNKY" and "TRANSFORMERS SHOULD BE REALISTIC" thinking fantasy elements ruined the series (and a disdain for Japanese mecha tropes in general). However, as noted by others, there were also a lot of holes in the characterizations that were filled by fanfic writers. I'm pretty sure the writers knew this since their old fanfic spawned other fanfic to fill in holes, and they saw it as a way to keep the core audience engaged.
This in turn creates a very focused, dedicated, but ultimately narrow audience, and one more likely to influence the direction of the comics, either positively or negatively. The fanbase want more romance? They got it to the point that the comics were more about relationships than anything. They wanted representation? The writers baked it into the mythos although it has since been discarded by non-IDW-influenced work. And if anyone didn't like it, sic the dedicated fandom on them and tell them to go back to the Bay movies.
GI Joe meanwhile, from the word "Go" felt like something IDW didn't really know what to do with, with their best idea being to give Larry Hama the keys to resume his Marvel run from where it left off (and ignoring the quasi-sequel run from Devil's Due which was mostly made without his involvement). It was clear that IDW's writers and editorial cared far more about Transformers and even Jem and the Holograms (a notorious stinker in sales that went for 25 issues and a 4-issue spin-off before IDW was forced to cancel it due to low sales and never bothered to try again) than the Real American Heroes. Some of that might be because the idea of military comics didn't agree with the more liberal writers there, but I'd argue that they didn't really try, especially with the Energon Universe also going out of its way to avoid a stereotypical "MURICAN soldiers vs. terrorist army" scenario. This resulted in the eventual nadir of the brand, the 2016 relaunch where Skywarp was a member of the team because reasons.
The Energon Universe is quite the opposite of that, and I can see where the worry comes in from the IDW fandom. The soldier toys are important again in a more direct way where it's clear there's more effort put into them. Meanwhile, the robot toys are back to focusing on more universal concepts, like war, family in a platonic sense, and general action. That sense of control feels lost, and it is also introducing concepts that feel like they run counter to IDW's writers and their ethos, particularly ideas that IDW writers rejected whole-heartedly.
If I'm off-base, please let me know, but that's what this feels like to me. A group losing their perceived control over a license, and not taking it well.
