ok but the scene in the Wrath of Khan where kirk is called down to the radiation chamber bc spock is dying is.... SO SO spousal-coded like my god
the tones everyone uses, the stilted silences, the unwillingness or inability to say those words to kirk's face.
the dread in bone's voice. the doctor. that TONE.
"jim you better get down here. hurry."
god it haunts me ever since the first time i watched it! it was just so REAL. and jim knows it. instantly. just like any loving partner would. it's even in the script that bone's tone scares him.
Tumblr media
the words no one ever wants to hear. he's about to lose his life partner of 20 years. publically. - and everyone knows it.
Tumblr media
he RUNS down to engineering, the way it is filmed it takes so long and it's so horrible like time is stretched out. you dont want to get to the end but you have to - just like jim. and the whole time your heart is pounding just as his is. and the expressions he is met with from bones and scotty... heartbreaking.
like walking into a hospital room where you only need to exchange those horrid expressions.
he is initially angry, barely has any time to register or react before it's over.
Tumblr media
the worst kind of goodbye.
Tumblr media
IT STILL BREAKS MY HEART CONSTANTLY SCARRED FOR LIFE EVEN THO THEY END UP HAPPILY EVER AFTER OK😭

I have a new hope in humanity
So my parents and I have been watching tos and I think they might ship spirk. Unprompted. Knowing nothing about the fandom. Or history.
Whatever girl was thrown at Jim in that episode: *says something about oh Jim I love you, love me Jim*
My dad: forget about it girl. He won’t love you, you’re not green
and I’m like, ok maybe that doesn’t mean anything. And then
*kirk and whatever girl he’s meant to fall in love with this time get thrown together in an elevator. They hold each other way too close*
Dad: I’m sorry, would Jim have grabbed Spock like that if that happened?
Mom: Maybe. Maybe he likes Spock. Maybe he would’ve. Maybe Spock likes him.
and I’m like WTF YOU HAVE NO IDEA (they were never into Star Trek as kids)
like WOAH
Omg that’s the best thing ever! My mom has always been into it and I’ve been gently like pushing to show her spirk is cool and ok (she’s not homophobic just never saw it and always thought of them as friends), but finally she’s like yeah I get why you ship it. One day I’m hoping she will too lol (she already reads fanfics and will read spirk if the plot is good).

So if Threshold happens to different Trek crews, who gets who pregnant? Voyager is one of the few shows where it makes heterosexual sense, (for lack of a better word, "sense" not being the word anyone would use to describe threshold)
So for Voyager, it being Paris (pilot) and Janeway (captain) makes sense through that lens. Paris, sure, because he is a pilot. We could pick a Science Guy to do it, but then it might be B'Elanna who does the flying fast, and then who is she going to kidnap for Lizard Sex? Harry? ... Yeah it'd be Harry. Anyway once you've picked Paris, you've got to figure out which woman is funniest to have him abduct into Lizardry. B'Elanna? No, not funny enough. She'd be a Klingon lizard and beat him up instead of mating, even if they did get married later. Besides, what if she evolves into a super-advanced Klingon, not a lizard? *claps* PUT TUVOK ON THE SHUTTLE. Kes? No, they already did a Tom v Neelix episode. Seven of Nine isn't on the show yet, so Janeway it is.
Ok so for other shows, we gotta pick a pilot or science guy (who might be screwing around with transwarp, and thus get Lizarded) and someone they could turn into a lizard to have babies with. The show is assuming heterosexual pairings here, but we know about things so we are not so limited.
The original series: as much as I'd love to say Sulu and Uhura ("I'll save you, fair maiden!" "sorry, neither"), I think TOS was much less of an ensemble than later Treks, so it'd need to be Spock. Spock is doing some science stuff, he gets hyper-evolved, and he picks someone else to hyper-evolve and turn into his lizard bride. As much as I want to say "Kirk", I think it's more likely that he runs off with Uhura and then Kirk has to rescue them. Kirk was always about being the one who rescues people, having the Enterprise come rescue Lizard!Spock (is that antisemitic?) and Lizard!Kirk and it's called commanded by McCoy? Nah.
TNG: the direct analogy to VOY would mean we have Wesley and... Picard? No, no, and no. Sorry. Frankly, we already had this plot on TNG (Genesis), and canonically the answer is Worf and Troi. The problem with it being a pilot thing is that Wesley is a child and Data (the official science guy) is an android, so he can't really be hyper-evolving. We could go with Geordi, the other Science Guy, but then we've got the image of a black man kidnapping a white woman. Uhhhh no. We already did that episode and it is an example of Deep Shame for the show. So Worf and Troi it is.
DS9: so this is what inspired me to make this post. We all agree Sisko would be a damn good father to his lizard babies, but would it be him? If so, with who? You could have it be Dax, and she lizards first and kidnaps him, which makes some sense given that she's a Science Guy. But you also have to consider Weird Guys. Every Trek series needs a Weird Guy so that whenever an ancient alien artifact turns the whole crew into Muppets or whatever, they can be the one who isn't affected and can thus solve it. This is all to say, Odo/Kira could be done. We've had a few episodes where he's been shown to do very extreme things out of his pining for her, so it makes some sense. Odo/Quark would be funnier but given how the DS9 writers handled Profit and Lace, I really don't want to see them do a gay mpreg episode.
ENT: the series with canon mpreg! Direct translation of would be Mayweather/Archer. Mmm. Probably not. I think it's gonna be a rarepair: Trip/Hoshi. Trip/T'Pol is too canon to be funny. The next best option is Archer/T'Pol and that's just kinda bleh. It makes sense but it's just the kind of thing they'd do and it'd be bland. We can do better. Honorary mention: Trip and Reed.
I've not watched enough of the New Treks to have an opinion there. Maybe SNW: Ortegas and La'an. Don't ask why.

Would love to see a little something about TOS spirk and dress uniforms, whatever speaks to you!! I love the intimacy of getting ready together and dressing up fancy with your partner :)
inspired in part by this post by @flippyspoon, this fan art [deactivated], and also this fan art by @lesbospirk!
i initially wanted to do something with spock's eyeshadow (still might??) but then the idea of him cutting jim's hair broke into my mind and wouldn't leave... and i never stop thinking about mind melds, so.
lastly: fuck hypersonic showers, ok? spock takes baths and jim loves sitting under steaming water for the drama. that is all. hope you enjoy, anon!
~*~*~*~
Jim was toweling his hair dry when he re-entered his quarters, screwing his face up as he scrubbed at any residual dampness. He let the towel fall in an open loop around his neck, cotton sleep pants slipping down his waist as he leaned against the partition. Spock was there, of course. Jim watched as he diligently smoothed the sleeves of a green dress tunic laid out over his mattress.
And my, was Spock a sight for sore eyes. The more reflective shade of blue complimented him, each fold capturing light like shards of zircon, lattice trim evoking something almost… royal, in the way it climbed the high collar. Jim’s eyes traced a line of golden embroidery down Spock’s chest as soon as the man turned to find him there, promptly raising a brow.
“Dressings suit you,” he murmured by means of explanation, pushing off the wall and taking a few slow steps to close the space between them. He propped both arms against Spock’s shoulders, extending them into the room behind with loose, lazy wrists.
For so long he had savored these moments of up-close observation, even going so far as to fabricate close quarters on multiple occasions just so he could drink Spock in. The range of barely-there shades of green surrounding his lips, touching the hollows of his cheeks, arching over where his nostrils met the bridge of his nose. Short, dark lashes lining irises the color of a mud-settled pond. Of tadpoles. Of space between stars.
Spock’s response pulled Jim from his reverence.
“You have a significant bias."
“Do I?” His gaze dropped to Spock’s lower lip. “Based on the evidence,” he dragged his finger down that seam of gold, “I’d say we’re dealing in… objective fact, Mr. Spock.”
After a moment, Spock finally angled his face lower so their lips were mere centimeters apart.
“Aesthetic preferences cannot be objective, Captain.”
Jim’s smirk only grew before he finally captured Spock’s mouth, letting a satisfied breath out through his nose. Spock met him, hands bracketing his waist before sliding upward over skin, eventually finding the nape of his neck where fingers curled into damp hair…
Spock broke the kiss and Jim hummed in protest, blinking his eyes open.
“I’ve noticed an increase in the length of your hair,” he observed, as if commenting on the weather. Spock's eyes rose to watch his fingers card through the wave of Jim’s bangs. Jim leaned up into the touch.
“Mm, you think so?”
“Indeed. I estimate it has exceeded typical length by 2.51 centimeters.”
“Hm. I suppose it has been a while since I had a trim. Remind me after the delegation-”
“We have time presently, if you are amenable.”
Jim drew back, giving Spock an amused look. “I doubt the salon will be accepting appointments at this hour, Spock. Even for the Captain.”
He curled his fingers over the nape of Jim’s neck again.
“I perform my own haircuts.”
Jim’s brows shot up even further in surprise, still sporting an open mouthed grin which he laughed brightly through. “You want to cut my hair?” He withdrew his arms so he could place one hand on either side of Spock’s neck, thumbs just reaching each corner of his jaw. “I’m not sure I could pull off your cut, sweetheart,” he joked.
Spock didn’t answer aside from a quirk of his lips, accepting the implied agreement before extracting himself and moving past Jim to the door of their adjoined bathroom. Jim watched him go, once more thanking Starfleet for their choice of dress uniforms, and still hadn't looked elsewhere by the time he returned holding a basin and several utensils. Jim knew that Spock preferred his own grooming routines (right down to the fingernails), but he wasn’t expecting the fine golden scissors. Nor did he expect the straight razor which resembled antiques from Earth, yet was still different somehow. He reached for the handle, turning it over in his hands, appreciating the way it gleamed.
“You’ve never shown me these.”
“It has not been pertinent until now.”
Jim placed the razor back into the basin, supposing that was true.
“Come,” Spock requested, and Jim did, allowing himself to be turned so Spock stood at his back. Gentle fingers slid the towel from his neck and draped it over his shoulders.
“Sit.”
And Jim did again, lowering himself into the desk chair Spock had wheeled around. Spock began pulling strands of hair upward and letting them fall free, so Jim shut his eyes, almost losing himself to the sensation until he heard a snip. The very end of a curl tumbled down the length of his arm and fell to the floor. He peered down at it, prompting Spock’s hands to curl around his head and face it forward once more.
“Remain still, k’diwa.”
Jim smiled, a warmth blooming throughout him. He loved when Spock called him that.
He continued to snip here and there, a halo of trimmed hair quickly forming around them. Jim relaxed into the contact until once again a sound roused him. Water. He cracked one eye open to see Spock running his fingers over the surface of a clear pool now filling the basin, flicking droplets back inside and combing the moisture through his hair.
“Could get used to this,” Jim murmured. Snip.
“I have no objection to making it a regular practice.”
He grinned, a shiver running through him as Spock dipped his hands into the water again, cold droplets rolling down his neck to be absorbed into the towel.
“Apologies, k’diwa.”
“No, no. Feels nice.”
Snip. Snip. Then, Jim saw in his peripheral as Spock set the scissors down on his desk. Gentle pressure on the back of his head tilted it downward, chin to chest. More swishing in the water.
“Do not move,” Spock directed more seriously, and a moment later Jim felt the press of sharp metal scraping down the lines of his neck. He swallowed, hairs on his arms raising as Spock diligently shaped the bottom of his hairline. Slow. Careful. He felt a hot flash of trust, of comfort and care skittering over him until the pressure from Spock’s hand released. Jim didn’t immediately raise his head allowing Spock to trace his fingers over the line, inspecting it by touch.
The same hand soon reached around to tip Jim’s chin back up. He continued the movement until he was craned back as far as he could go, sure he looked ridiculous as he peered up at Spock, batting his eyelashes.
“You know, the barber usually kisses me once he’s finished.”
Spock’s second brow rose to meet the first before he bent at the middle, pressing a chaste kiss to Jim’s lips upside down.
“I do not find that amusing,” he murmured. Jim brought his hand up to the back of Spock’s neck to pull him back down for second kiss before he could pull away, lingering this time, smiling into it before releasing his hold. He could hear Spock smooth the lines of his uniform and draw a short breath through his nose.
“Regardless, I am not yet finished.”
When Jim tried to twist in his chair, he found Spock already circling around to his front.
“You aren’t?”
“You have not shaved.”
Jim blinked. He usually just used a photon shaver on his way out the door, which could be done in an instant, but when hazel eyes fell to see the razor still held in Spock’s hand his lips curled. He flashed his eyes back up.
“Okay,” he said with a slow nod. He settled back in the chair, gaze steady as Spock moved to stand closer, eclipsing the ceiling light. Jim leaned his face into Spock’s hand as a thumb briefly swiped over the rough stubble covering his chin.
After smoothing a layer of lotion that smelled like desert spices over the bottom half of Jim's face, Spock began his ministrations high on each cheek, making smooth swipes downward and carefully steering the blade around the corners of Jim's mouth. He relaxed his jaw, lips parting, eyes falling shut of their own accord. Spock eventually brought his hand to one side, propping Jim's face against his palm as he shaved along the opposite edge.
By the time he recognized the warm feeling wrapping itself around him, the tightening thread pulling through his mind and lifting him from the world, Jim was already plummeting through space. He was vaguely aware, somewhere, of his physical body falling into Spock, a cold hand meeting the drop of his head with gentle steadiness.
K'diwa.
Spock!
Delight spun through him in tendrils. He rushed forward, coiled around Spock’s presence, reached inside and felt the beating of his heart like it was his own.
Jim. His full name was feather light, yet somehow more insistent. Echoes bounced around them before Spock brought him back to center. My intention was not to meld with you.
Then I must be dreaming, he thought warmly, and suddenly Spock was there before him in swirls of shimmering twilight, pulling him by the hand, by his chin. He felt his warmth from the inside out. Like he had swallowed a sun. Like he could never be cold again.
Return to me, k'diwa. I must finish.
“I love when you call me that.”
The words, his own voice, were what pulled him back to reality. Their faces were mere inches apart. His cheek was wet. He smelled spices around him, felt humidity in the room. Suddenly, Jim remembered the task at hand and blood rushed to color his face, but the expression he found on Spock’s was fond. Soft. His fingers followed Jim’s chin as it drew back before letting the contact cease altogether.
“Did I…?”
Spock nodded once. Jim swallowed and bit his lip sheepishly.
“Sorry.”
Spock shook his head, denying the apology. “My hand placement was unwise. I admit, I was distracted.”
Jim’s embarrassed grimace began to lift into a self-satisfied smile.
“You, distracted? I'd be curious to know what could've managed such a thing.”
Spock said nothing at first. He placed a considerably more careful hand on top of Jim’s head to steady it.
“Aesthetics.”
And Jim let Spock tilt his head once more before feeling the cool metal touch back down on his skin. This time the path began just below the line of his jaw, trailing down and catching fine hairs along the column of his throat. When he could, he tried to catch a glimpse of the unwavering concentration on Spock’s face as he worked his way across.
“You do this every morning?” Jim all but whispered as his head was allowed to level. He instinctively brought a hand up to feel the smooth skin, running his fingers over it in appraisal.
“My metabolism has adjusted to living aboard the Enterprise. I only require this level of grooming approximately once every twenty one standard days.”
Jim blinked. How was he still learning new things about Spock, even after all this time? He supposed that explained why he never had a hair out of place- that is, unless Jim had something to say about it behind closed doors.
Spock was inspecting him now, dark eyes roaming his face, searching for any neglected spots over it's surface. Jim sat still, defiantly keeping his gaze steady until those eyes met his again. They both held it for a prolonged moment until Spock reached out touching his thumb to what must be a single hair left behind. His fingers climbed…
Jim couldn’t have stopped it if he’d wanted to. He surged forward again, their minds coming together like a flood as if protesting the premature ending from before. As always, Spock was there to catch him. Arms twined around, undefined and abstract, embracing him from all directions. He was steady, as if he himself were the solid ground on which they stood, as if Jim would float away and cease to be without him there. His tether. His anchor. His north star.
Hello, ashayam.
Spock, Jim practically sang. Not for the first time, he felt a certain sort of music shivering free in a distant part of his mind. A single note hanging suspended in the fog. He wanted to hum along, to stretch it into a tune that could be carried by birds, a song composed for a symphony, but instead he simply reached for Spock and thought you’re here, you’re here, you’re here as they twisted together.
Always.
He felt love float up between them, lifting like bubbles from vents below the sea and racing for the surface. Oranges and pinks brightened in the periphery, dropping off into blue below. He marveled inwardly, distracted by the space that was all their own before his attention was drawn to a thought passing over him. Uncertainty. Spock was the one who put words to it.
You are nervous.
It was as if Jim hadn’t recognized the ache in his stomach until then.
That is why you are seeking me. K’diwa. Come.
Clarity. Sense. Logic. Jim followed him into an embrace of sensation- lying against Spock’s chest in the morning, finding his hand below the table without having to look, kissing him in the dark. All at once it came over him, settled inside him. Comfort. Home.
Your nerves are unwarranted. You have prepared thoroughly.
So did the admiralty when the delegation turned them down.
You are Jim Kirk. Decidedly, not the admiralty.
Jim laughed, and the music came back distantly. Bells.
Spock continued. I, for one, have historically found it difficult to deny you anything.
Jim could feel the ache within him begin to subside as quickly as it had come, could practically feel Spock pulling it from him. He reached out again, hand closing around a wrist which was not there before he decided to hold onto it.
I love you.
And I, you, ashaya.
And with that, the meld began to abate, turning to mist and leaving only filtered sunlight behind Jim’s eyes. The sensation of Spock’s forehead against his own came to him like waves of a dream. He sighed, nodding forward until the hand supporting his chin steadied him enough for him to open his eyes.
“Are you comforted, Jim?”
And the question was so sincere, he felt his heart reeling in appreciation for the man before him.
“I am, thank you,” he murmured, and seemingly satisfied, Spock brought the razor up and grazed it over the missed spot on his cheek. He wordlessly gathered his belongings, submerged in the now frothy water, and disappeared to return them to his quarters.
Jim raised a hand to ghost over the spot their foreheads had met and thought back to a time long ago, when they were practically strangers, Spock's words to him.
'If I seem insensitive to what you’re going through, Captain, understand… it’s the way I am.'
Spock’s brow lifted when he caught Jim watching him a beat longer than he should have. He was standing in the doorway now, drying his hands, and all Jim could think was how could I have let him be so wrong?
All he said, however, was, “How do I look?”
“Tempting,” Spock answered without hesitation.
Jim’s grin warmed several degrees. “That is what I was going for.”
After taking a moment to appreciate the curve of Spock’s lips, reserved just for him to see, he finally stood to face the green tunic laid out with such care on his bed. Unsurprisingly, each medal was already pinned in perfect position. He ran the backs of his fingers over the dyed fabric, parted it, smiled when he found his undershirt neatly folded there too. He imagined Spock alone in the room as he was washing up. His careful movements, so precise and so graceful at the same time, always yielding perfect results. Point A to point B. The path of least resistance. Jim sometimes marveled that Spock, in all his simplicity, could tolerate him at all.
A hand pressed to the small of his back and Spock was standing close, their hips touching as he reached for the shirt. He presented it to Jim, who pulled it over his head, emerging to find Spock holding his tunic out for him to slide his arms into.
“I’m beginning to feel rather spoiled,” he teased before sliding one arm in, turning, sliding in the other. He leaned back and Spock wrapped his arms around him, closed the shirt over his chest, bowed his head to tuck himself into Jim’s neck. Lips pressed to his pulse. One. Two. Three.
“You are worthy of the treatment, Captain.”
Jim shut his eyes. Captain. It was spoken like a name. Like found treasure. Like he’d follow him anywhere.
He turned again so they would be face to face, leaving some space for Spock’s hands which immediately sought out his sleeves to soothe them down his arms. Comfortable silence enveloped them as Spock resumed closing his cuffs, tightening the material over his wrists and sliding each gold disk through their respective slots.
“Thank you,” Jim said again sweetly once he was finished, reaching two fingers out to find Spock’s and pressing the tips of them together. As he so often did, Spock looked down at the contact, observing it as he pushed more purposefully along Jim’s fingers, up over the first fold of his palm.
“I am confident you will be successful.”
Jim followed the path forward until he could lace their hands together fully.
“What, I don’t get to hear the odds?”
Spock’s grip flexed inside Jim’s. Reverent. Devout. Jim squeezed back.
“I could provide them, however I see little point as it is your tendency to defy all probability.”
Jim leaned up on his toes to press a kiss to Spock’s cheek, delighted to leave behind the faintest imprint of sage.
“Perfectly logical, Mr. Spock. As always.”

The end of Search for Spock but they mess up the fal-tor-pan and McCoy and Spock’s minds wind up in each others’ bodies, SNW "Spock Amok" hijinks-style.
They don't want to worry anyone further, so the entirety of The Voyage Home is exactly the same, except Bones and Spock are in each other's bodies and desperately trying not to let anyone know:
Gillian: Do you like Italian? Bones in Spock's body: shit, does Spock like Italian? No. Yes. No. Jim: I love Italian and so do you. Bones: Of course. I forgot because I died.
Spock in Bones' body: please don't ask the doctor to run my station Him? I mean him, back at his post, like nothing happened. I don't know if you've got the whole picture but he isn't exactly working on all thrusters. Bones, sitting at Spock's station: this was such a bad plan, Spock. What's something that fucker would say uh...a joke is a story with a humourous climax.
Jim: Bones, you stay here. Spock in Bones' body: No way, ...somebody's gotta keep an eye on him! to make sure he doesn't do something massively illogical with my body
Bones, watching Jim sell the glasses Bones gave him: Excuse me, weren't those a birthday present from Doctor McCoy? asshole Jim: it's ok he won't know
Scotty: I've travelled millions of miles Spock: I must correct him; it bothers me too much Thousands.
Bones: I have to swear so badly but I can't. How would Spock swear? How would... They are not the hell your whales. close enough
Jim: You're acting a lot more formal and stiff than you used to. Bones, who is overcompensating by trying to act as Vulcan as possible: I cannot tell a lie.
Spock: you took my body swimming WHERE Bones: I had to ask the whales for their consent ok
The slingshot through time on the way back home throws them back into their own bodies, because that makes as much sense as anything else. They never tell anyone what happened.

Following one of my latest posts I'll never stop my headcanon that all the hand holding, grips, etc. Between Kirk and Spock are kiss coded. Maybe not at the start, but my favorite example is the hand grip after Vejur attacks Spock's mind.
That felt so much like a lovers kiss after Spocks realizes he doesn't have to purge his feelings, and he acknowledges that one of his strongest feelings is love and is ok and he is so happy to see Jim, his T'hy'la, that he doesnt even notice McCoy on the side which makes it even better bc who else would have to endure these two making out, but McCoy? And Kirk is surprised, but reciprocates even harder. It is a kiss.
And honestly? Vulcan kissing is the best. Is subtle and is intimate and not everyone knows about it. I also like to think ppl realized what type of relationship Kirk and Spock really had when Vulcan culture knowledge becomes more known. I bet is the equivalent of reading Greek mythology and being like "wait they weren't being best friends they were being gay"

🔞Minors DNI🔞...I know you want to but I don't wanna have this on my conscience, ok?
Things k/s smut should explore more, because I think it would be fun:
(Brought to you by an asexual dude. Just fun information.)
Spock when he is NOT in pon farr or under the influence of alien horny poison, or de-evolved into his primal self or whatever. I wanna see Spock when he's fully in control of himself! He's done his research and he intends to make his t'h'yla feel good. Cue check-ups in his usual official manner: “do you feel that you are sufficiently stimulated?” “what is the message behind your vocalizations?” “on a scale of one to ten, rate your experience” etc.
Jim being, like, completely unashamed of himself. He's the sluttiest man on the Enterprise and it's the 23rd century, so that's saying something.
On the opposite side, Spock might be very self-conscious: because of his hybrid body having different traits than a normal male vulcan's and/or because he's been taught that pleasure is illogical. Could also add a note of vulcan homophobia to that if it aligns with the author's headcanons. I personally love the idea of Spock justifying sex to himself as being exclusively for Jim (because he's a human and he's allowed to want it) while Spock himself is...performing a service. For the sake of love. And Jim's like ohhh, sure, of course, I can tell you're deeefinitely not enjoying this, uh-uh *pretending that he can't hear Spock's tiny moans*
Also - can you tell this list is mostly about Spock? - more 👏 vulcan 👏 biology 👏. Not just the cock (and honestly no shame on people who prefer him with a plain ol' human weenor. It's fine). Is Spock warm or cold to the touch? Does he sweat? What does he smell like? Can Jim feel his heartbeat when he touches his sides? Are his teeth sharper than a human's? Does he have any special erogenous zones that humans don't? There's SO much room for creativity.
In TOS, I often notice that, although Jim loves his job, he feels burdened by responsibility and inability to show weakness. Sooo...maybe a bit later in the relationship he could have fun being Spock's sub, losing all of his control & being told what to do. Vulcan strength makes this extra good.
Getting into highly specific territory, Spock treating Jim like a science experiment. Figuring out where he's most sensitive, how to make him squeal, how to give him the most satisfaction (or no satisfaction at all). He's got data and stuff, maybe even a tricorder to measure electromagnetic impulses. Jim is very amused by all this.
Finally, and most importantly, have you SEEN Jim's bed???? It's a mystery how Jim himself fits on there, much less how the two of them manage to do anything without tumbling to the floor. They need alternative fucking locations. Over the chess table. Bridge bathroom (everyone curses them). Rawdogging it in the bowling alley after closing hours. Maybe they use their provied accomodations when they're on an away mission - this is especially funny if they're captured and they're trying to escape. “Hold it with the escape plan, Scotty, me and Mr. Spock need to use the luxurious bed that our captors have so generously provided for us...” aaand we've got a whole plot right here.
If you see this, feel free to add more in the tags! Also, if you know some fics that feature these concepts, link them also, I'll check them out.

Watching Star Trek TOS - So much is happening AAAH
The Corbomite Maneuver
This episode is about Jim, Bones and Spock bantering and Jim & Spock smiling at each other and I'M HERE FOR IT
The fact that Jim is walking from sickbay to his quarters half naked? I know you only have eyes for your ship darling but that's not everyone's case, put those away
"I'll keep that in mind Mr Bailey, when this becomes a democracy" The guy got his ass handed to him twice in less than 5 minutes
THIS EXCHANGE "And if you're asking the logical decision to make..." "No I'm not" "Has it occurred to you that there's a certain inefficiency in constantly questioning me on things you've already made up your mind about?"
Tumblr media
"I was curious to see how they appear" "Yes of course you were" aka Jim all tense but taking time to be soft w/ Spock
"A very interesting game, this poker" aka Spock admiring Jim
"And you, Mr Bailey. The face of the unknown, I think I owe you a look at it."
Jim succeeding because he fulfills his duty which is to seek out and contact alien life & he won't leave a distress signal unanswered
After all the tension, a fun and optimistic ending!
I am: delighted
.
The Menagerie
Obv I knew it was gonna end well but I was STRESSED
Spock having a secret plan? Inventing a transmission?? Out of loyalty and friendship to his former captain???
McCoy & Jim being so sure of Spock's loyalty to him bc he's Vulcan
Spock hijacking the Enterprise!!!
The look on Jim's face when the computer doesn't respond to his voice command oh my god i can't
OH SPOCK SPOCK SPOCK
SO MUCH TENSION
They have changed uniforms for the court-martial lol appreciate their fashion sense
The commodore trying to get Spock to give up command of the ship by telling him he's invited death penalty onto Jim! The first thing that makes Spock react! My heart!!
"Captain, Jim, please don't stop me, don't let him stop me"
SO DRAMATIC
Jim saying "Guilty... as charged" OMIGOD
THEIR FINAL DIALOGUE AND JIM'S SMILE!!!
Tumblr media
I am: overjoyed
(Ok Jim's a very understanding man (and/or very much in love) with Spock but the "mutiny - hijacking - court-martial - everythings goes back to normal" sequence would undermine both their authority before the crew, I can't believe there is 0 follow-up on that lmao)

star trek the savage trade was. so much. there were implications. there were friendships. there were ten thousand unfulfilled ideas. it was not well written but it WAS a ten course meal of food for thought
the most interesting part of this book was the complexity between spock and valek which was completely disregarded even though it arguably had the most interesting stuff going on. for example; when they meet up again after over ten years
Tumblr media
varen is her twin brother, which we’ll get to. but here she’s pretty rude towards spock, despite later telling kirk that she felt bad for bullying him/formally arguing against his existence when they were kids. which. okay. only to LATER find out she’s been amongst humans for over ten years. she even starts this little romantic thing with kirk like this
Tumblr media
she does stuff like this multiple times. kirk as the narrator even frequently mentions how ‘un-vulcan’ her actions are
Tumblr media
i thought it might have been heading in a direction where she also felt like her emotions were getting the better of her as a kid, maybe making her feel like spock was better than her even being half vulcan, but no. it was just about her going along with every other vulcan’s prejudice towards him. then there was this whole thing where she came to take back her opinions because she respected sarek and amanda so much, and of course once spock grew up and proved himself’ she respected him too. but like. there’s so much there. the main point made here regarding all this was that vulcans underestimated spock because obviously spock is great but he couldn’t earn respect until he proved himself in his profession. until then though it was public debate over his existence. imagine your classmate getting up and arguing you shouldn’t be alive. and the only person who’s disagreeing with her is her brother. WHICH.
next point: spock ‘when i feel friendship for you i feel ashamed’ has longtime childhood friends he still keeps in contact with? obsessed. what’s this? you’re not going to include him in the narrative? bro. varen is apparently spock’s only friend from way back and this isn’t even talked about. it’s basically just the reason why valek was angry with spock as kids but she already didn’t like him so it wasn’t like her brother and spock being friends was a catalyst. what i’m getting at is that this author put SO MANY interesting things in the story and then just didn’t use them. ACTUALLY GOING OFF THAT
Tumblr media
obsessed when novels mention sybok. this one’s especially interesting as according to her, sybok was seen as better than spock. in the final frontier novel it went that sybok felt like an outcast already, and was noticeably more emotional than other vulcans. spock, who assimilated and became as vulcan as possible to offset being half human, was still seen as less? insanity. i just feel like there’s so much going on here talking about spock’s childhood and then when you read the end of the savage trade spock’s just chillin with ben franklin absolutely uncaring (which good for him. if i met a childhood bully who was now everything she bullied ME for? i would be ruthless. spock elects to lose to benny frank in chess multiple times so he’s above all that)
anyways there was so much the author could have done with valek because she was really really interesting but her and spock almost never interact and it ends up falling pretty flat. LOST OPPORTUNITIES, like pretty much every star trek book in existence
ok one final thing the spock and varen being vulcan lab partners thing was really cute
Tumblr media
#sorry i literally want to tear this book apart with my teeth THERE WAS SO MUCH THAT COULD HABE BEEN EXPANDED UPON#and yet the runtime is filled with kirk and valek trying to get togethr 💀#also like half the plotlines of the first half of the book were completely dropped in the end this was NOT a well written book but bro#whatever happened with valek and spock and varen was ten thousand times more interesting#especially if we wanna discuss spock having a single friend from childhood he still keeps in contact with#i think that’s nice that’s something i want for spock even if it doesn’t really fit his character as someone who felt so alienated from v#vulcans that he ended up in starfleet#i would love to read abt him and varen what do they talk about? apparently varen attended the VSA so#they send their upcoming papers back and forth for editing and in the space version of google doc comments they drop all the drama from#their respective workplaces#ok fr tho i think this part of the book would have benefitted from valek and spock having more interactions. i mean she’s REALLY out here#acting very human and the FIRST thing she does is get on his case about FRIENDSHIP? when literal chapters later she commits the same crime!#i KNOW its bad writing bc in what world would spock admit to having friends but BRO. in the context of the story taking it at face value BRO#also. it was kinda funny that in the beginning of the book kirk is so wow mr spock its like we have a consistent and ongoing mindmeld we’re#so in synch <3#and then turns around and falls in love with this woman because she’s sooo vulcan#sorry! it’s funny to me. what do you really want sir 🤔#ok kidding i thought the valek / kirk thing was kinda sweet#i need to annotate this book and everything because the only thing mccoy did this whole story was have crazy sex with the ex gf of the#guy who wrote candid which. not my fav of the high school lit but#there was a slavery plot that mostly got dropped with the two alien races from the beginning#i think if i could rewrite any book it would be this one because it was THERE IT WAS ALL THERE. it just needed the talent and the time#okokok im done. for now#captain’s log#trek books#tos

Most romantic thing in the world to me actually would be if Spock went thru with kolinahr and everything went to plan and he was genuinely fine and comfortable with himself afterwards but he deeply regrets it still bc he realizes it wasn't logical to have gone through with it when he only did it to be accepted and there was nothing ever wrong with him, purging emotions isn't some superior state of being it's just a different mode of existence that is no more valuable than the former, and Jim's wellbeing is still very important to him as his t'hy'la bc mutual relationships are not the product of emotion they are a fundamentally important part of life whether u have feelings or not and Jim does have feelings and it was fucked up of him to damage them over his obsession with fitting in to Vulcan society, and a few weeks after he comes back he tells Jim he loves him softly while tryna calm him down from something and he's like no you fucking don't please dont say that to me it hurts more knowing you'd lie about it and Spock's like I'm not lying I do love you and Jim pulls himself up and looks him in the eyes like ok what does that mean and he goes I don't think it matters that I can't feel emotion anymore when I know what loving you felt like. It's in my core. If it can transcend life, actual material existence then why wouldn't it be able to transcend the emotion itself. Don't you think it's bigger than any of that. I love you because I know I do

Journey to Babel - TOS 02x10:  AKA Spock’s Tailor-Made Day From Hell™
Tumblr media
This is Spock’s worst nightmare caught on camera, ladies and gentlefolks.
Notice how someone snapped the precise moment his soul left his body.
It is the perfect blend of
Tumblr media
and
Tumblr media
I mean . . .
Tumblr media
When your parents are making out all over your place of work.
Tumblr media
Bonus: Your dad hates you and your boyfriend slash boss starts squaring up with him about it.
MY PARENTS ARE MAKING OUT IN FRONT OF MY BOSS WHILE SAID SPACE BOSS HUSBAND IS YELLING AT MY DAD ABOUT HOW GREAT I AM. HE WANTS MY DAD TO ADMIT IT BUT HE WON’T AND THEY ARE BOTH EQUALLY STUBBORN. THIS IS UNINHIBITED CHAOS. THIS IS DEFINITELY NOT EMBARRASSING. I AM OK WITH THIS. I DO NOT EXPERIENCE EMOTION. ᕙ( ︡'︡益'︠)ง
After the throw down Jim looks so shook like “Oops. I think I just alienated our Vulcan diplomat because I love his son too hard. Ahem. My bad.”
Tumblr media
Amanda: Ahh, they’re fighting again. :) This is so familiar. Feels like home.
Jim: *Internal gay panic and screaming oh my god oh my god my husband really is an alien and his father is a gila monster and I just came for him like that when I’m supposed to be working what have I gotten myself into OK breathe*
Tumblr media
Amanda: Breathe, sweetie. We got this. We’re humans. Adapting to dumpster fires is our specialty. We’ll be OK. We can handle them.
Tumblr media
(They look like they already love each other and have this crazy camaraderie? You know they do?) Anyway reigning in the ADHD, the only thing that could make this day worse for Spock would be:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Well, shit.
Now Dr. McCoy has enough ammo to keep him fed for however long the remainder of his cantankerous human existence allows.
(Spoiler alert: McCoy lives for a long ass time. And he stays just as petty that long, too. I don’t doubt that his scattered particles would still be complaining out there somewhere in space long after he is gone.)
Tumblr media
But I digress. I love Journey to Babel.
AKA Spock’s Tailor-Made Day From Hell™.

ok ok ok it’s time for my amok time thoughts-
first of all: s p i r k
spock what do you mean your omega heat was resolved by you rolling around in the dirt with your captain??? 🤨
but also just the way kirk was so respectful and understanding about spock’s pon farr and dodn’t make fun of him for it.
can’t believe the 1960’s scifi show had a fuck or die episode which did not result in heterosexuality. truly ahead of it’s time.
and also the way jim and spock were rolling around in the dirt was so gay. no one can convince me otherwise. the way spock slashed his axe thingy (forgot what it’s called) exactly so that it would give jim a tit window??? i know what you are spock.
and of course the biggest moment: JIM :D. seriously what the fuck was that. only time he smiles the wide the whole series (times when he’s under the influence of drugs excluded). homosexuality at it’s finest.
speaking of drugs i find it very funny that the only time spock likes women if either when he’s under the influence or when he’s being mind controlled.
the way spock grabs him and just gives him the biggest stupidest grin. i love spock and spock loves kirk. they are in love you can also see how wide kirk was smiling from the way his cheeks move.
spirk was just so soft with each other this episode, even on vulcan. the way spock was so hesitant to fight him and tried his hardest to convince t’pau even when under the pon farr influence.
the way jim clearly tried not to hurt him through the whole fight,
they make me fucking insane.
anyways
second thing i liked: BONES
i love bones mccoy
spock saying that he’s also one of his closest friends 😭 😭 😭
but he was so smart with the neural paralyzer and i love the way he clearly cares so much anout both of his dumbass friends under his grumpy doctor exterior.
third of all: women
t’pau and t’pring were so powerful and so wonderfully played.
obviously the whole thing with calling t’pring the property of whatever man wins her is very icky but as progressive as star trek was (and still is!), it is a product of it’s time unfortunately.
but besides that, they both just radiated power, and it was so nice to see a woman in a seat of major power.
on another note, stonn has a strikingly small forehead t’pribg i promise i could treat you better.
in my mind uhura wants t’pring (“she’s very lovely mister spock!” i know what you are ma’am.)
fourth: the episode was just. really good.
all of the tension build up before we find out about that spock is basically an omega is masterfully done, and even though i kinda new the plot, i was still sitting on the edge of my seat. incredible.
i also think tbe fight choreography during the gay sex fighting scene was actually really well done, especially when compared to other fight scenes in season 1 (the gorn fight comes to mind).
also the set design for vulcan felt like an actual planet. like usually when they go off the enterprise and onto a planet that’s not basically earth, you can tell that it’s just a bunch of foam blocks, but vulcan was very well made!
the conversation between spirk and kock kirk and spock about “vulcan biology” was very well written and acted in a way that was slightly awkward because of the nature of pon farr, but still felt natural and very in character.
side note: i see online that there’s a lot of people who think that shatner overacts. and i just don’t see it. idk i think he’s really good at playing kirk. i don’t really like the guy, but i like how expressive his acting is.
anyways this was very jumbled but i had a lot of thoughts and yeah.
i too would write the first slash fic in the 60’s if i saw this shit on my tv.
also does anyone know what tag i should use for kirk? i use like 4 different ones each time but is there one that’s more common? same for mccoy.

ok, now that i've watched all of tos (none of the movies yet...) i am going to do the top ten worst and best episodes, according to Me. they are as follows:
WORST EPISODES
10. the savage curtain - idk who thought putting abe lincoln in a cage match with the vulcan version of ghandi against like, ghengis khan and space hitler would be a good idea. but it wasn't. i did like seeing the vulcan father of logic though like "im gonna go sacrifice myself for peace" ok king
9. i, mudd - all of the mudd episodes are bad. he's not charming at all whatsoever. however, this one is better than the other one because uhura gets to pretend to sell out kirk and they're SOOO cute about it. her little giggle when he PICKS HER UP BY HER SHOULDERS and tells her how proud he is. PLEEEEASE
8. charlie x - the entire premise of this episode is that the bad guy is just autistic. and then they make him live on a planet without people because he can't adjust to normal life ???
7. shore leave - obvious racism of this episode aside, the faux-irish jig that played while kirk was being menaced by his extremely unfunny old bully nearly drove me over the edge. we DO love a good mccoy death fakeout tho
6. a piece of the action - if i had any interest in gangster films before this it's all gone now. that being said. i loved when kirk drove the little car. he was so bad at it. he was so happy.
5. mudd's women - like he's literally just selling women?? and the plot twist is that secretly they're ugly?????
4. who mourns for adonias - this is just "what if ALIENS build the pyramids bro" except for the 1960s. nail in the coffin for this one was kirk proudly declaring they didn't needs gods - because they already had the One God, thank you very much!
3. the paradise syndrome - WHY WOULD YOU HAVE NATIVE AMERICANS MISTAKE KIRK FOR GOD. WHY. like i know why but Why. i think the very worst part of this episode was that it had an amnesia plot that would have FUCKED if you had simply removed the people. if there hadn't been people in this it would've been in my top 10 episodes. i think this broke me.
2. the omega glory - this is the same as the last episode except there's no amnesia, and also the "native americans" are white cosplayers who worship the american flag and mistake kirk for god because he can recite the pledge of allegiance yes really. if i had a nickel for every time this happened i'd only have two nickels etc etc at least kirk didn't knock anybody up in this one ig
1. patterns of force - why would you make your two jewish leads wear swastikas and then literally be whipped by nazis. i know he's such a bad person but not even william shatner deserves that. number one worst episode everyone says it's omega glory but it's this one
BEST EPISODES
10. plato's stepchildren - this episode is hard to rank because like it's both good and bad. the torture scenes were genuinely upsetting, especially the ones at the end w/ spock & nurse chapel, because they weren't just violence being inflicted on tied up guys, but they were SUPPOSED to be upsetting, like it was literally the point. and also this episode bears the distinction of THEEE kirk & uhura kiss. literally historic.
9. the trouble with tribbles - i feel like everyone's heard of this but it really is as good as everyone says. sometimes 1960s humor doesn't translate to 2020s humor but it was genuinely hysterical start to finish. also, the distinct trilling sound was so imprinted in my brain i recognized it in the 2009 movie where i had never registered it before.
8. the naked time - aside from the KING SHIT george takei pulled with the fencing this episode also contains the "i am in control of my emotions [sobbing]" moment and kirk & spock LITERALLY having a slapfight. this episode has everything. an absolute masterpiece
7. the empath - i feel like this paired with "the world is hollow and i have touched the sky" really made me a Bones Understander. i feel a little bad about that bc everyone says the characterizations in s3, or actually that the season as a whole, is kinda shaky? but i watched without knowing that and i feel like i Get It now. also, this was the only score i went and relistened to on spotify
6. tholian web - the spock & mccoy episode ever. there's so many things to say about this from the death fakeout to kirk's little space suit but what TRULY got me was the instant and totally nonverbal agreement to lie straight to kirk's face to both preserve personal dignity and troll the shit out of him (while chekov and sulu are like also silently laughing as they listen in no less). what this episode made me realize was that it's a good thing they argue all the time and make kirk play referee because if they were on the same side kirk wouldn't stand a chance. like he'd be finished.
5. the city on the edge of forever - ok, so, this episode made me feel like i was having a mental break. the time travel. spock's little hat. when he watches kirk kiss edith and then goes back into their room to pretend he didn't see anything. mccoy and kirk basically hugging at the end when edith bites it.
4. requiem for methuselah - the first time i watched this i was kinda like :/ because how does kirk fall in love with a woman in FOUR HOURS? that aside the ending scene blew my tits clean off. i paced around my house for like 30 minutes going "what the FUCK was that" because i couldn't simply lie down and sleep after seeing it. rewatching the episode with uh. new context made me like it a little better. but even if it had been garbage the last scene shook me so thoroughly it would still need to be on this list. i'm getting wound up just thinking about it. number one most shocking tos moment.
3. the dagger of the mind - look, i understand that this episode was technically just run-of-the-mill stuff as far as everybody else is concerned but they put james t kirk in a little brainwashing machine. and the machine was shaped like a chair. and it gives people amnesia sometimes. i don't know how i'm expected to behave normally
2. this side of paradise - this is the episode where a flower jizzes on spock and gives him feelings. and look: it's really funny, and there's a lot to love about it. but the ending where kirk hurls verbal abuse at spock for a solid 92 seconds WITHOUT STOPPING followed by: spock beating the shit out of him until he gets his logic back. i have rewatched this perhaps 1,000 times at minimum. what the fuck were they doing
1. conscience of the king - this episode got me into this mess. i don't think i can elaborate further without significant self-incrimination. let's just say what happened was i thought "oh i'll just watch this one tos episode for context for the fanfiction" and one month later i'm writing fic about [redacted] [redacted] [redacted] DON'T WORRY ABOUT IT
ok, that's my list. i thought about doing honorable mentions for episodes that had scenes i liked even though the overall episode didn't make it into my top 10. but then i realized that would mean recapping basically the entire series and this post is already too long. i do have to give the pon farr episode a shoutout though because even though so much of it was offputting there was literally a titty window in kirk's shirt. like, it's the pon farr episode. ok NOW i'm done

ok I saw the reblog of your star trek books post about someone asking for recs someday, but I’m impatient and have decided I am not gonna wait and that I will send the recs ask MYSELF dammit!!
I feel like i’ve never gotten into the books because I’m worried they will be bad, so if you have any TOS/DS9 book recs I would LOVE to hear them — I have consumed all Star Trek content made up until this point and am so so desperate for new material
thank you SOOO much for asking i love any excuse to talk about st books!!! (though it is kinda funny cause that same person talking about recs did end up messaging me already lol)
for TOS i would say the best ones are:
Killing Time by Della Van Hise — famously gay and for good reason, it’s just blatantly romantic spirk content. it’s all about how they are meant to be together in every alternate universe and that they are soulmates <3
Spock’s World by Diane Duane — bones, kirk, and spock go to vulcan because the vulcans are considering leaving the federation. really great plot and super accessible characterization for the main three!
Vulcan’s Forge by Susan Shwartz — follows two plots- young spock figuring out that he wants to join star fleet, and older spock dealing with kirk’s death and trying to move on. it’s really not as sad as it sounds and it adds so much to spock’s character imo.
id honestly also recommend the novelizations of the movies, they definitely add a lot of new content
DS9 is harder cause i love soooo many of these but some of the best are:
Hollow Men by Una McCormack — kind of a sequel to the episode ‘in the pale moonlight’, garak and sisko go on a trip to earth to deal with dominion war stuff (and everyone else has shenanigans on the station)
The 34th Rule by Armin Shimerman — basically quark whump, him and rom are sort of kicked off the station and go to a prison camp and the rest of the characters have conflicting feelings about this (it’s a bit overdramatic at times but i love quark-centric stories so 🤷)
Fallen Heroes by Dafydd ab Hugh — this one is pretty crazy, quark and odo suddenly travel 3 days into the future and find the entire station is dead, like Everyone died, and they have to figure out what happened and fix it (i love quodo and there’s a scene where quark vacuums odo up, need i say more)
Saratoga by Michael jan Friedman — sisko is meeting with the other survivors from the ship jennifer died on. there’s sabotage, intrigue, betrayal and such and then the b plot is that odo has to pretend to be quark. so basically an average ds9 episode lol
there are definitely a lot more good ones but it depends on what characters you like and what kinds of stories you’re looking for ya know? please please message me if you want to talk ab it more!!!!
