QuinObi Week Part 2/5 - First / Next
Day 2: Knighthood/Raising Padawans Track: 'How Bad We Need Each Other' - Marc Scibilia (Spotify / YouTube)
"I'll grab the bags." "And I will grab the Padawans." "But they're already-" The sound of excited squealing from Aayla and Anakin echoed throughout the halls, Obi-Wan unable to stop his own laughter from joining in and Quinlan smiling broadly at seeing the joy return to his friends face.
Kind of just a fun moment for the group, one of their first missions all together, pretty early on in Anakin's journey to become a Jedi. I have a whole little fic thought up for this that I am so sad I didn't get the chance to write but it is the one I am most tempted to work on and publish later anyhow, because it is just an all around bit of fun for the little family XD
Enjoy!

I always find the melodrama around Obi Wan being Anakin's master a bit funny. Basically a teenage dad! Struggling single parent! Traumatized child in the care of a traumatized child! Eldest daughter syndrome etc..... Yes, he was grieving, and it must have taken courage on his part to present that ultimatum to the council, and had he had to leave the Order to train Anakin, I can see how that would have been deeply challenging, true. But like,
It's the clone wars cartoon that really renders it for me. Anakin was.... I think quite objectively less ready for knighthood at the end of aotc than Obi Wan was at the end of tpm, but the cartoon basically has it happen right away. He was an actual teenager. He, unlike Obi Wan, canonically did not really want a padawan at that time. Also, he had to raise a padawan in a warzone? Hey, he also had just lost a parent, wow, the parallels. The show also establishes quite thoroughly that jedi learn to look after children and teach... possibly even before becoming padawans themselves, judging by Ahsoka, and that there is also a good degree of communal teaching even with the apprentice system, judging by Ahsoka. But never mind all that
So we're cuddle-piling the 25 year old trained teacher with a solid support system who was applying for a position that he expected to include raising a padawan, i guess... truly the meowest of meows, the burdenest of burdens. No wonder Anakin fell!

Prompt - ‘Do something, babe, say something. Lose something, babe, risk something. Choose something babe, I got nothing to believe, unless you're choosing me.’
Notes - I know I posted a House version of this yesterday but this song has such a hold on me so here's Obi-Wan's version.
Tumblr media
You had known Obi-Wan your whole life, had trained by his side since you were children and formed a friendship that had the older Jedi raising their eyebrows and whispering about attachments. You had been inseparable since you’d met, drawn to one another like it was the will of the Force and never once drifted apart from each other in all your years together.
It wasn’t until you were a few years older, well into your Padawan training, that you both began to see your friendship had transitioned into something more, something that had you feeling lighter than ever, something that had your chest feeling warm and your cheeks heating up.
You were in love with Obi-Wan, Obi-Wan who was always there when you needed him, Obi-Wan who was always ready to pull you into his arms and talk about everything and nothing for hours, Obi-Wan who never hesitated to stand up for you when you let people put you down. You were in love with the man who stood for everything good, who was so kind and patient, who never gave you anything but fond and happy memories.
You loved him and you didn’t know what to do. What was there to do when you dedicated your whole life to an Order that forbade attachments? You couldn’t fathom how the Order could think something as beautiful as the feelings you felt for Obi-Wan could possibly lead you down a Dark path.
Obi-Wan had known he was in love with you for a long time, from the moment his gaze started to linger on you for a little longer when you looked away, from the moment he realised he longed for your company when you were pulled apart by separate missions, from the moment he realised all he wanted to do when you smiled at him was to pull you in and taste your lips.
He hadn’t been able to stop himself from doing just that when he was finally able to steal a moment alone with you when you returned from a mission two weeks later than intended after peace talks had turned violent and you and your Master had gotten caught in the midst of it.
You hadn’t had more than a moment to register what was happening before you felt Obi-Wan’s lips on yours the second you walked into the room, freezing for a moment before sinking into the kiss, relaxing for the first time in weeks as your hands gripped Obi-Wan’s robes, both of you needing to assure yourselves you were safe.
From there everything evolved until you were sneaking around the Temple, keeping your relationship a secret, knowing you were breaking the rules and not caring if it meant you got to call Obi-Wan yours. It didn’t matter that you couldn’t tell anybody, it didn't matter that your relationship was built on stolen moments and secret meetings, you knew one day things would be different, you didn’t care about anything else.
The secret lasted well into knighthood and when Obi-Wan became a Master, having to train the young Skywalker boy it put a strain on your relationship. Suddenly it wasn’t just you and Obi-Wan sneaking around together, ignoring the whispers and the knowing glances from Qui-Gon as he left the quarters more and more frequently giving you and Obi-Wan plenty of time together. Suddenly in the space of one mission there was a Padawan and no time for stealing time together, now it was all about longing glances as the other was thrown more and more into their duties.
Eventually though it became easier to deal with, you and Obi-Wan were assigned missions together with Anakin coming along but as the years went on you made it work. You were sure the Padawan knew there was something going on between you and Obi-Wan, the cheeky grins and badly concealed winks he sent Obi-Wan’s way as he came up with excuses to leave the room for a while gave as much away,
You weren’t complaining, you loved any time you got to spend with Obi-Wan, you wished for more days that were spent laying side by side whether it be in a bed or a field littered with flowers but you knew that this was all he could offer you and all you could offer him right now.
So it went on like that, years passing by in secret as you loved each other quietly. You wanted it to be enough but there was a small part of you that was more and more persistent as the years passed, hopeful for something more.
You knew you’d leave the Order for the man, all he had to do was ask. You wanted him to ask more than anything, wanted him to steal you away in the middle of the night and put as much distance as possible between you and the rules of the Jedi Order. You wanted to build a life with him, one that didn’t need to be clouded by secrets and lies, one where you could kiss him whenever you wanted without always looking over your shoulder.
You wanted him to ask you.
He never did though and when the war started you pushed all those thoughts away. It wasn’t the time to leave, that’s what you told yourself anyway as you threw yourself into the war efforts, aching as you and Obi-Wan were separated yet again, only reunited when the Council ordered it.
There were a few times you got to spend longer together, days that were spent on Coruscant, still surrounded by the war but easier to ignore as you made your way to Obi-Wan’s quarters after a long day of consulting with the Council.
“I’d say that was a rather successful meeting, wouldn’t you? If what we have planned works we’ll have Akippee in no time.” Obi-Wan grinned at you as he moved around the quarters, seemingly unable to try and leave the war outside of these walls, to savour the little bit of time you were able to have together.
You just hummed at him and let your fingers trail along the back of the sofa as you looked around the room, the room that had once brought you peace, had felt more like home than any place had before, the soft orange hues lighting the room but now it felt different, it felt empty.
Obi-Wan continued to talk, hardly noticing the fact it was a one sided conversation as your mind went into overdrive. You weren’t sure how he couldn’t see something was wrong, how could he glance over at you and smile, how could he chuckle and speak and not notice you were miles away questioning everything?
Eventually Obi-Wan led you into the bedroom, stating that you must both be exhausted from such a long day and it wasn’t long until the lights went out. Obi-Wan fell asleep easily, not pulling you close to his chest like he would have years back and you ignored the way another bit of your heart withered at the loss.
The sound of Obi-Wan breathing evenly and shuffling every so often used to comfort you, it used to lull you into a peaceful sleep and leave you well rested. Now it set your nerves on edge, it made you feel like you were alone even though you could reach out and touch him, though the space between you felt infinitely bigger than it was.
As he slept you stayed awake, sat up staring into the darkness of the room, letting your thoughts run wild, letting yourself wonder what was happening, letting yourself wonder if it was time to face the reality of what had become of you and him.
You loved Obi-Wan, the man was all you had ever known and you didn’t want to know anything else. You loved him more dearly than anything in the whole galaxy and yet here you were with him, feeling lonelier than you had ever felt in your life.
All you wanted was a life with Obi-Wan, you wanted a proper, real life with Obi-Wan. One far away from the rules and regulations of the Jedi, one where attachments weren’t something to be feared, one where you could kiss him freely and without judgement, you wanted to give him every part of your life, you wanted to be his wife, you wanted to give him a family.
You wanted to give him everything.
You had tried to deny it for so long, tried to convince yourself you didn’t actually need that. You didn’t need to be Obi-Wan’s bride, you didn’t need to start a family with him and live your life openly to prove you loved him.
But it was never about proving anything, it was just something you wanted so badly and Obi-Wan had never given any indication he wanted anything more than you had. He seemed so content with what you had, never going forward, just staying where you were.
There were too many problems with your relationship, sure the war could be blame for leaving you without seeing each other for months on end but you truly believed if the war hadn’t happened this would still have been the outcome, maybe it would have bought you a few more months maybe even years but it was always going to end up here.
There were too many problems and Obi-Wan didn’t see them, either he refused to see them or he was really so blinded to them. When you finally reunited it was like there was no time apart for him, like everything was still the same. Your heart was breaking and he was fine where you were.
It was falling apart, you could see it breaking down before your eyes and yet Obi-Wan couldn’t. You wanted to scream at him, beg and plead for him to do something, to show it meant something to him, to show you meant something to him. You wanted him to take a risk, to leave the Order with you, to show that he would choose you. But he never did.
That night you slept fitfully, feeling even more drained than you had been the night before, only able to glare at Obi-Wan in the morning with a storm of emotions in your eyes as he went about getting ready for the day whilst keeping up a steady stream of conversation. He looked at you with a smile on his face and you wanted to scream some more, wanted to shake him and beg him to look at you, to see that you were dying, to see that he was losing you.
All you wanted was for him to see you, to see the mess that was your relationship and fight to save it, to do something to show he loved you. You wanted to believe your relationship could survive but your heartbeat felt like it was fading with every day that passed, it felt like you were going to die before Obi-Wan realised something was wrong.
“I can’t do this anymore.” You interrupted him, looking as shocked as he did at the outburst, not fully registering the words leaving your mouth or the decision to save yourself before your heart really did stop.
“Is everything ok?” Obi-Wan asked, his eyebrows knitting together as he put down his caf and turned to you, seemingly giving you all his attention but still not seeing you, not seeing how worn down you were.
“No.” You finally forced yourself to say after a few moments of silence passed where you could only stare at him, debating if you wanted to do this. “Obi-Wan, this isn’t working, we’re not working.”
“I don’t understand.” Obi-Wan told you softly, his hand coming up to scratch at his beard as he tried to figure out what was happening and why you were suddenly so unhappy with your relationship.
“I know you don’t.” You told him, voice shaky as you fought back tears. “I know you don’t, Obi-Wan and that’s the problem. You don’t understand despite all the signals I’ve given, you don’t understand even though it’s so clear to see.”
“What’s clear to see?” He asked you and the genuine confusion coming from him hurt your heart even more.
“Would you leave the Order for me?” You asked, never wanting to ask the question, not when you knew what the answer would be but it was the only thing you could think to ask to get him to understand something about how far your relationship had fallen.
Obi-Wan was silent for a moment too long, a moment that he actually seemed to recognise lasted for too long if the regretful look on his face meant anything. You let out a chuckle that sounded more like a sob and nodded, you’d already known the answer, if he was going to say yes he would have already left.
“I never wanted to lose you but you, you won’t do something, you won’t risk something to fight for us. You won’t even choose me, Obi-Wan. I can’t do this anymore, I’m tired, I’m so tired of being lonely.” You cried, a few tears slipping down your cheeks as you slid your robe on.
“Where are you going?” He asked quietly and you nearly sobbed, even now, even when you were walking out of the door he wouldn’t fight for you.
“To talk to Master Yoda, I can’t stay Obi-Wan, I can’t.” You told him and opened the door, waiting a moment for him to say something, to do something but he didn’t. He stayed silent and let you walk out of his quarters.
You barely held yourself together, hearing the door shut behind you and forced your feet to move until you got to an empty room. Only then did you let yourself fall apart, sobs wracking your body as you finally let everything out, everything you had been ignoring for years.
All you had wanted was for him to give you something, you had only ever wanted him to choose you the way you would always chose him but instead he hadn’t even fought to stop you from leaving, letting you go like you hadn’t given him your best years, hadn’t given him everything you had only to be left alone feeling like you heart wouldn’t start anymore.

im choosing ignorance for right now but will cover it at the end of this (this being a whole essay 💀)
So, it looks like Baylan has a green kyber crystal in his belt. This post and others have pointed it out
Tumblr media
Obviously, this begs the question of whom did it belong to? Immediately the thought would be Baylan’s. He was a padawan of the Jedi Order, trained into knighthood, and eventually a general during the Clone Wars. He created his own lightsaber hilt and (maybe, idrk exactly how it works forgive me) chose his own crystal. And, even if he didn’t, it was still a part of who he was for that portion of his early life.
We learned last episode he misses the idea of the Order. With Baylan, there’s a heavy amount of sentimentality associated with the Jedi, especially if we believe (which I do wholeheartedly) that he lost a padawan.
But that’s what begs the other question—is the crystal from his padawan? Did he take it from his padawans lightsaber and keep it for himself to carry on the memory of that kid (who i like to think was a female but that’s the girldad lover in me speaking)? Was it motivated by grief? Has he allowed himself to grieve at all, and if not, was taking the crystal his way of avoiding that emotion?
Or was it motivated by grief? There is no emotion, only peace. Is that when he ditched the code? How could he have any sort of peace after losing his padawan? Or, did he find that peace in keeping the crystal?
But then there’s my other question—what’s the significance of it? Dave Filoni, from what I’ve seen, is intentional. I don’t think adding what looks like a green kyber crystal in Baylan’s belt is just some sort of happenstance that didn’t have any thought behind it.
And, with Baylan’s character, it’s way too significant. When it comes to how he feels about the Jedi, how he seems to actually feel a little bad about having to kill Ahsoka in episode 2. His relationship with Shin. The padawan braid. It all screams significance to me.
So, when it comes to significance, what role is it going to play by the end of the show? I really cannot see it being included and making Baylan’s character so nuanced and intriguing and then not doing anything with it.
Mundi and I were talking about this earlier today. I mentioned these main two points, but also this-
Tumblr media
And then Mundi had to drive the stake further through my heart and twist it around by basically saying what if Baylan’s dying act was giving Shin his crystal (still thinking about this mundi THANKS)
I said a stretch at first, but it doesn’t seem too far-fetched anymore (except for her becoming fully good). Now, I don’t want Baylan to die. He’s the last character I want to die and I love him, BUT…
How he dies? I have no idea. Thrawn, Morgan, Enoch? Ahsoka, Sabine, Ezra? Betrayed by Shin? (very doubtful i feel) I think there’s a lot of options of how it could happen, if the cards are played right.
So if we think that’s the case, Shin is around when he dies or mortally wounded. Maybe she sees it happen to him like how he saw it happen to his last padawan. Shin is distraught, the most emotion we see from her because, well, it’s Baylan who’s trained her and borderline raised her, and they have a moment together before he passes. Baylan makes her take the crystal (which would hit a lot harder if it is his original one and did not belong to his padawan) and they have some sappy goodbye that’ll have me crying for six weeks.
We’ve also all talked about how Shin and subtext from some of her lines that indicates some sort of… longing or curiosity regarding the Jedi. If, within the last two episodes, those are confirmed or it’s revealed that Baylan could sense that feeling in Shin, i think (assuming he does die in this way) giving her his crystal makes sense.
Maybe she keeps it as sentimental in her own belt as I don’t see her turning fully to the Light in the show. But, if there’s another season, who knows.
Going back four paragraphs, I believe if it were Thrawn or Morgan who killed him or orchestrated his death, Shin would not follow them back. She’d go with Ahsoka and the Gang TM home in the purrgil mouths. She clearly hates Peridea and, if Ahsoka and the crew are there to witness Baylan’s death (for whatever reason), they could have sympathy on Shin maybe and help her home.
OK. I hope that covered those thoughts in a somewhat coherent fashion. Here’s where that chosen ignorance comes in.
Tumblr media
Shin’s braid. An anon actually sent a link to a tweet with both this AND the Baylan one in one post, so thank you nonnie for that!
Anyway. Shin’s braid. Three (four?) green kyber crystals.
Why.
Did they, for some reason, come from Baylan? Did he just have a cluster of them and he gave her a few to include in her braid?
If the braid was her idea, did she want them included in it? Did they still come from Baylan if that’s true? Did she want to feel that connected to the Jedi from the start of her apprenticeship with Baylan to include them in her braid?
If the braid was Baylan’s idea, did he include them? Weave them through the strands? Did he talk to her about including them? Including crystals in a padawan braid wasnt traditional, to my knowledge (not that they are traditional jedi). Was it some sort of selfish choice? Was the ghost of his padawan still lingering in the middle of these two that he felt he had to?
WHAT DOES IT MEAN. WHY ARE THEY THERE. WHAT IS THE SIGNIFICANCE.
I NEED THEIR WHOLE STORY RIGHT NOW

Overview of the Guard OCs
sorted by age:
Masin Vel Afad - Masin is the product of me going 'what if there was a Guard that's older than Cin, actually?' Like, yes, that's his boss, but also Masin had that mask since before Cin was a Battlemaster, so really. Who is winning here. Raised two Padawans successfully to Knighthood prior to joining the Guard and is the most dad-coded jedi to ever exist. Some voices claim he was born a dad.
Hack - saw entirely too many shitty cop holodramas as a Youngling, latched onto the 'grumpy hacker' stereotype and made it his entire personality. He is one of the Guard's internal IT team, since his stature (he is toydarian) doesn't really allow for him to, well, blend in with the visible Guards. There were some attempts at stacking several smaller Guards ontop of each other but that resulted in 4 traumatized crèchelings and one very angry Cin Drallig. Voices claim that that was Hack's villain origin story and the reason for his incessant blackmailing-fetish.
Ranatward 'Nat' Missalek - rumored to be the source of all chaos in the Guard. Would not claim otherwise. Although xe is a Jedi through and through and takes a lot of pride in being a member of the Order, xe has a very social streak that some mighr claim is antithetical to the work as a Guard. But those who work with xem know that's not true because Nat is the kit that holds them together. Sometimes literally, xe is very much a hugger.
Zessh Jarid - take your Grandma's old and kinda grumpy cat. Subtract the age and give her opposable thumbs and space magic. Now you have Zessh. Her favorite assignments are those where they have to take up post near the Crèches, she could watch the Initiates play all day long. There are many pots going on on how long it will take her to get over her pride and give up the mask in favor of taking a Padawan or becoming a Crèchemaster (or both). She herself has actually placed a bid as well, which some voices may claim is unfair, but no one knows on what.
Yon Tar - is voices. Feemor's older Crèchemate. As children they looked a lot alike (minus the glowing) so they were mixed up several times. He was the one who first approached Cin to take Feemor into the Guard after he was repudiated. In the same proposal he offered to discreetly disappear Qui-Gon Jinn, which was vetoed by the Battlemaster. But Yon still has the plan, as a contingency. He was Mace Windu's Padawan before Depa Billaba and originally joined the Guard to avoid having to interact with people and politicians outside the Order. They always get weird about his diathim heritage.
Yorra-Serra - was the Squad Baby before Feemor joined and is very much enjoying life as a middle child now. Is in the strange position to be a second-generation Temple Guard, although she only found out about that after she joined. Her Master had been a Guard before they retired, became an Archivist and raised Yorra to Knighthood. The one Knight in that particular Guard Squad that seems impervious to blackmail - mostly because both Yon and Hack have yet to find some on her.

My second Star Wars fic is giving me gray hairs
RANDOMLY did a timeline because i needed to see what major events were happening and how the character was going to respond and at what level/age, right?
TURNS OUT it's a mess so I had to fudge this, outright just stick people's DOB places where it felt like it would fit, yeah?
I, trying to write, keep having to go back and fix/add/remove/change the timeline because things keep NOT ADDING UP??
Take Qui-Gon Jinn, the bastard. Had three (3) padawans, right? Feemor, Xanatos and Obi-Wan.
I don't have a DOB for Feemor or Xanatos, but I have the age Xanatos was when he Fell, enslaved Obi-Wan, did his bullshit in general and his death.
Fantastic, yes?
WRONG.
There's no room for Feemor, AT ALL??
Because we got dates for Dooku, for his padawanship and Knighting, for Rael Averross (not DOB, why would I need that???) and enough info that I can sus out a mostly accurate timeline for how all that went.
Qui-Gon ain't old enough to have raised another padawan to Knighthood before Xanatos and I have no idea where the extra ten years came from.
Hello, popular headcanon that Feemor's first Master died and Qui-Gon only had him for like 2-4 years.
Regardless, I now have to re-write the second chapter before I can even touch the 20k worth of random shit I have for chapters 3-6 because there's so much that keeps popping up.
This fic definitely gonna be my longest if the hyperfixation keeps up.

QuinObi Week
Day 2: Knighthood/Raising Padawans
Christ You'll Be The Death of Me
Summary: A year after Qui-Gon's death, Obi-Wan struggles with resurgent grief and worries he's not doing enough for the Padawan he adores. When Aayla comms him to help an injured Quinlan after an ambush in the lower levels, Obi-Wan comes to the rescue. As it turns out, Quinlan might be doing some rescuing, too. or Aayla and Anakin are siblings, and Quinlan knows Obi-Wan really, really well.
“Why are you undressing?”
“Normally you like it when I do this.”
“Quinlan.”
“There may be”—Quinlan winces, putting a hand to his side—“a small, no big deal sort of thing right under my ribs that I didn’t tell Aayla about. I injured about half the dealers before the mostly useless cops showed up, and one of them got me as he went down.”
Quinlan shifts his tunics to the side, and Obi-Wan understands what he means. Just beneath the right side of his ribcage, there’s a long, thin cut. Not as jagged as the one on his arm, or as deep, but close enough to other, more vital organs.
“Quinlan.”
“You would have done the same thing so Anakin didn’t worry,” Quinlan shoots back. “I’ll be fine. If there’s problems tomorrow I’ll go to the Halls, okay? I’ll let Vokara or Bant or another healer yell at me for waiting. I trust you, though, yeah?”

Queer Star Wars Characters (Round 1): General Bracket Match 56
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Kantam Sy | Identity: non-binary | Media: The High Republic Phase I
Kantam Sy was the padawan of Yoda. Sensing they weren’t ready to fully commit to the Order, Yoda delayed their knighting. They ran away from the Order for a year- initially to follow a man they fell in love with, but then just to see the galaxy. After rescuing the force sensitive orphan Lula Talisola, they realized that their place was the Jedi Order and returned to it, receiving their knighthood and bringing Lula to the Order. When Lula was old enough, they took her on as their padawan.
During High Republic Adventures’ 2020 run, Lula is part of the Star Hopper, a Jedi academy ship. Kantam is one of the ship’s instructors, but Yoda is the leader of the group. During their missions against the Nihil, they are joined by Zeen Mrala, a force-sensitive girl who is too old to become a Jedi. Despite that, Kantam is happy to welcome them to the Star Hopper and Starlight Beacon and train her as a Jedi auxiliary along with the other masters and padawans. After Yoda suddenly leaves on mysterious business, Kantam and Buck Torban become the main instructors to the padawans of the Star Hopper.
They are very empathetic and have a lot of good teachings regarding non-attachment and how to balance love and duty. They are close friends with Buck Torban and Cohmac Vitus.
Audj Seedol | Identity: wlnb | Media: Padawan
Audj Seedol was born to crash landed settlers on the planet Lenahra, which was a macro-organism connecting all native life through the Force. The settlers discovered that by consuming the planet’s Power, they could gain the physical enhancements of Force sensitivity. But this turned the planet against them, putting the settlers under constant threat from predators. Some settlers managed to repair a ship and leave, and those who remained became addicted to the Power, believing it was required for their survival. The adults in that group died young from their use of the power, leaving teenagers like Audj to raise the younglings and create a found family. Her natural charisma and leadership skills led to Audj assuming leadership of the group. This included her brother Casul.
This was the circumstance they were in when Obi-Wan Kenobi, having run away from the temple due to puberty blasting his brain and disrupting his connection to the Force, crashed landed on their planet. Audj was dating Zae-Brii. Audj was assertive and saw Obi-Wan’s suggestion that the taking of the Power was the cause of Lenahra’s aggression towards them as insulting the legacy and culture their parents left for them. But after Audj saw Obi-Wan connecting with the planet and coexisting with the predators that had tormented them her entire life, she realized the error of her ways and realized giving up the Power would be best for her people.
However, at the same time Audj’s uncle had rediscovered the planet. He planned to take all of the Power and kill anyone in his way, including his niece and nephew. Defeating him required Audj to consume the Power one last time, which ruined the possibility of her family coexisting with Lenahra. They left the planet to find a new home somewhere in the galaxy.

A Star Wars What If...? ~Inquisitor Dedra Meero
@queeniewildrose, you asked for my headcanons for a Force Sensitive!Dedra, here they are:
(I’m turning this idea into a cosplay so this’ll actually help me remember my own headcanons for later...)
Tumblr media
1. So taking Denise’s age as a guide, we know that Dedra might very well have lived through the Clone Wars. We can also surmise that she had a rough, deprived upbringing from comments made by both Tony and Denise in interviews. As a general headcanon for Dedra, I’m guessing it’s the equal and opposite of Syril’s, in that she was raised by an emotionally abusive, distant parent but it was her father, not her mother. In my headcanon, Dedra’s mother died when she was young and she was left to fend for herself by a domineering, cold father who blamed her for her mother’s death and planted the seed of her need for control and the desire to prove herself for whatever little crumb of approval she could get from her sole remaining parent.
2. Though born on a poor, Mid-Rim backwater planet of little consequence, Dedra is found by the Seekers of the Jedi Order, tested, and with her father’s permission, she is taken to Coruscant to be trained as an initiate.
3. As an initiate, Dedra excels in academics and Force abilities. Her lightsaber skills aren’t quite up to the same level but she’s so proficient with the Force, her teachers wonder if she’d even need bother with a lightsaber if she makes it to Knighthood.
4. However, there are reservations about her. Dedra is solitary and detached from her peers, preferring the quiet of the Archives to any games with her Clan members. Although detachment is taught by the Jedi, her teachers are a little disturbed when they realise just how detached Dedra is, how lacking in empathy or compassion. She suppresses her emotions rather than deals with them in a healthy manner, and deep, deep down, there’s a festering pool of fear, rage, and hate that she successfully keeps buried from everyone except perhaps Grandmaster Yoda or Mace Windu if they’d ever taken the time to look.
5. In the hope that a more personal approach might break through Dedra’s icy shell, she is taken as a Padawan. Perceptive in the Force, she senses her teachers’ disquiet and learns to mask her coldness and mimic just the right amount to get by. She learns to see empathy as a way to sense others’ emotions to her advantage without it affecting her judgement.
6. Despite some lingering misgivings, Dedra takes the Trials successfully and becomes a full-fledged Jedi Knight. Throughout her training, she showed an aptitude for seeing patterns in data and events that others missed, and a talent for perceiving the bigger picture even without the use of the Force. With that in mind, the Council assigns her to the equivalent of Republic Intelligence, whatever passes for it before the advent of the Clone Wars, working with civil and local police and intelligence agencies across the Galaxy.
7. Doubts still linger about Dedra, despite her never putting a foot wrong. She’s just a tad too efficient, too good at her job, too good at getting the information she needs within the limits of her role and training. The decision is made to assign her a Padawan in the hopes that becoming a teacher herself might succeed where her Master failed.
8. Years later, after the Great Jedi Purge and Order 66, Dedra could only bring herself to recall them as ‘the Padawan’. Just like she could never bring herself to remember her mother’s name. Names bring pain.
9. For, you see, the Padawan succeeded. At first, irritated and unimpressed, Dedra kept them at arms’ length but slowly, over the years they spent together, fighting and working side-by-side, begrudgingly she found herself growing...attached. She cared.
10. And then the Clone Wars began.
11. Skilled as she is with the arts of investigation and perception through the Force, Dedra and her Padawan are assigned to Intelligence. Though nominally given the ranks of General and Commander respectively, Dedra and the Padawan work often undercover which gives them some breathing room when Order 66 is triggered.
12. Called to report in, Dedra and the Padawan are ambushed and the Padawan gives their life to save Dedra’s. And Dedra’s heart shatters as it had done once before. And the Dark eagerly reaches out to quell the pain and rage.
13. Once the Clone troopers are dead and Dedra has escaped, she begins the onerous task of rebuilding herself after the loss of her Padawan and the only life she’d ever known. The claws of the Dark Side have sunk in deep by this point...
14. The war has done its work in making Dedra question everything she had once accepted as right. Corrupted by endless conflict and slaughter, and her own unaddressed, festering darkness, Dedra has already begun to see the Republic as doomed, its death a necessary one after its failure to bring peace to the galaxy, peace that Dedra starts to distort into order, frustrated and hemmed in by the rules of the Jedi, the limits to her powers, the actions she can take when interrogating persons of interest. Unlike the Council, Dedra found herself agreeing more and more with the transfer of powers from the Senate to the Chancellor, coming to see the former as a weak, dissolute, self-absorbed body of useless politicians.
15. The Jedi are not spared Dedra’s growing contempt. She comes to see their restraint, their detachment, as weakness and cowardice. They have the power to do so much more than they allow themselves, they could enforce order peace but they refuse, clinging to the dusty, failed strictures of democracy. But she says nothing, keeping her doubts and growing contempt within, because her Padawan would be so disappointed if she knew the depths of Dedra’s disillusionment...
16. Until it doesn’t matter anymore. And all that is left is the anger and the pain, burning away the crumbling foundations of Dedra’s atrophied heart until there’s nothing left but the contempt. For the Republic, for the Senate, and for the Jedi that let their people be slaughtered, that were too weak to prevent it.
17. When the Inquisitorius catches up with her, the Grand Inquisitor immediately senses Dedra’s disillusion and her teetering on the precipice of the Dark Side. It doesn’t take much to make her fall, though she spends plenty of hours in a torture chair. (It’s practically a rite of passage for the Inquisitorious after all...)
18. Dedra falls to the Dark Side and becomes the Tenth Sister. Just as she burned her Padawan’s body, she burns the memory of the Padawan’s name from her memory, locking it away with a cold, dark corner of her memory where her mother’s ghost dwells, and lets the festering pool of rage and fear that had lingered inside her since childhood consume her.
19. Just as she did as a Jedi Knight, Dedra turns her hand to intelligence gathering and investigation. She is mercilessly trained to a higher standard of lightsaber combat as all Inquisitors are, but she still prefers to rely on her Force abilities. They become ever more potent under the shadow of the Dark Side.  Soon, she becomes the Inquisitorius’s go-to for interrogation, capable of extracting any information she seeks within minutes. Sometimes, she doesn’t even bother using the Force to break her captives’ minds to her will, her mere presence is dark enough to push even the most resolute prisoners to madness and terror.
20. Dedra was always ambitious and that hasn’t changed. All Inquisitors jockey for favour but Dedra does more than jockey. She listens and watches and learns, becoming the unofficial spymaster of the Inquisitorius. The other Inquisitors loathe and despise her but they dare not move against her, not yet. Because Dedra is ten steps ahead of all of them, second only to the Grand Inquisitor before his death, and Lord Vader himself.
21. And this is where the events of Andor come in. They still transpire as they do within the first 4 episodes, but rather than Dedra sounding the alarm, someone else does. Perhaps Heert, perhaps Partagaz himself, regardless, the latter turns to Colonel Yularen who, in turn, consults the Emperor. The Inquisitorius is winding down by now, there aren’t many surviving Inquisitors left and with the slow extinction of the Jedi nearly complete, the Emperor has little use for them. Except Dedra’s penchant for seeing patterns and the bigger picture has brought her some acclaim, along with her skill as an interrogator and investigator.
22. She is loaned to the ISB for the investigation. The ISB supervisors all react the same, with shock and derision, but they don’t dare be anything but subtle about it when the object of their disdain is capable of snapping their necks with a twist of her fingers or strangling them to death without so much as a touch. They pretend indifference but everyone, even the likes of Blevin, struggles to suppress a shudder every time the black-cloaked shadow that haunts the ISB walks past them with cold indifference. Complaints to Partagaz and Yularen fall on deaf ears as the Tenth Sister takes charge of the investigation, discovers the link in the wake of Aldhani, and puts Blevin in his final place when she chokes him to death before the entire assembled ISB Board for incompetence.
23. Dedra has the might of the Emperor behind her but she knows she too will face the same fate as Blevin if she fails. Beneath her cold exterior, the fear and the hate bubble away, always close to the surface but never breaking it. The ghosts of her mother and the Padawan rattle the bars of their drowned cell in the depths of Dedra’s memory but she is too blinded and deafened by the Dark now to see or hear them.
23. The events of Andor continue, but with Dedra conducting Bix’s interrogation without Dr. Gorst’s assistance. She interrogates Maarva and inadvertently causes her death when Maarva successfully goads her, but uses it as a lure to trap Cassian.
24. Dedra still makes the same mistake as before (though, I have to say, this felt like an uncharacteristic mistake for Dedra, not to check all possible routes of infil and exfil for Cassian into the town...but I’m guessing it was a story choice more then anything), and Cassian rescues Bix. However, Dedra pursues them to the shipyard and she and Cassian play a game of cat and mouse among the junked ships while he covers his friends’ escape. Dedra goads Cassian into revealing himself by telling him the truth of Maarva’s death, or at least an edited version, but she underestimates him and he draws her into a trap that nearly kills her and allows him to escape.
25. Syril saves her life, gets her back to the Imperials, with Dedra now facing the wrath of her masters and a burning hatred, hatred for Cassian Andor, adding to the terror and rage inside of her. Resolved to hunt him down, she finds an uneasy, intense ally in Syril Karn for the hunt to come...
26. And as for Syril? He still approaches her, fixates on her, is mesmerised even more by the power she holds. She almost makes a public example of him when he accosts her outside the ISB but instead choose to let him escape with his life, if not his dignity, intact after Force-choking him for a few seconds. She refuses to acknowledge the strange, unwelcome, foreign feelings the incident invokes in her. It’s the most she’s felt since...since the Purge. Since the Padawan. And she absolutely does not like it...

I think someone probably asked this before but I can't find it, and the recent encyclopedia post got me wondering again: do we know why/how Qui-Gon has the rank of master?
From my understanding one of the prerequisites is training a padawan to knighthood, and in canon continuity Obi-Wan is his first one, right? So is it an exception, to the extent of offering him a seat in the council? Or we just don't have an answer to that?
(this is ok to answer publicly if you want to :) )
Hi! As far as I'm aware, there's nothing in canon that explains how a Jedi achieves the rank of Master. There was some stuff in Legends in that iirc was one of the ways a Jedi could become a Master, but I don't think it's ever been a hard prerequisite, in canon, Legends, or Lucasfilm canon. Honestly, we don't know a lot about how the Jedi move from one step to the next, we know that there are some sort of Trials such as:
The Gathering is at least a rite of passage, if not an official trial, but it’s likely a good blueprint for the kind of thing Jedi go through as they move forward
Obi-Wan says that he's ready for his in The Phantom Menace, implying that there's a ritual to becoming a Knight, and Yoda says that the Council will decide who is ready for the Trials.
In Padawan he thinks: “Meditation. Obi-Wan had to figure it out. He had never been bad at it before his trials, but then again, it had been only one small part of his training.”
“The Gathering had been beyond difficult. Maybe even worse than the Initiate Trials. The things the caves had shown him, the dread they whispered in his ear...“ (Padawan)
“He missed the camaraderie of their days together before the Trials, before becoming Padawans.” implying that younglings and initiates room together until they become a Padawan and then move into a Padawan room.  (Padawan)
Master & Apprentice doesn’t say much, other than that there’s usually a period of time where a Jedi spends some time forging their own path before becoming a Master: “With his dying breath, Qui-Gon had asked Obi-Wan to train Anakin as a Jedi. Most Jedi Knights didn't become Masters until years after they'd passed their own trials, the years during which they got to forge their own path. For Obi-Wan to take a Padawan after having been a Jedi Knight for a few hours was—unprecedented, surely.”
None of that lays out much with any explicit detail and, for memory, in Light of the Jedi the implication is that it’s through other means that a Jedi becomes a Master, when Elzar (who is very, very eager to become a Master) thinks:      “When you were a Master, you could pursue your own studies, move forward through the Force on your own terms. In fact, the Council expected Masters to do exactly that. It sounded like paradise, but a paradise that had thus far remained elusive. Doing well with the Legacy Run investigation, showing the Council that he could help the Order with its goals just as much as his own: It could make a huge difference.” Best guess is that, once a Jedi Knight is deemed ready to become a Master, the Council has them undergo a set of Trials (as the Jedi have several rites of passage along their paths) and, if they pass, they become a Jedi Knight.  What determines that is probably a variety of things--maybe one path is through helping a Padawan to Knighthood (the Jedi are, at heart, teachers, they love passing along knowledge and helping to raise others up, so that makes sense to me), maybe one path is through keeping a cool head in a lot of difficult missions, showing that you have mastered yourself and your connection to the Force, etc. Nothing in canon has Qui-Gon having trained another Padawan to Knighthood, it feels like something that would have been mentioned in Master & Apprentice given how much that book was about Qui-Gon’s relationships with Obi-Wan, Dooku, and Rael, but we can’t say for 100% certain, yet he’s very clearly a Master and I think he probably earned it through a mastery of self or showing a particular devotion to the Orders goals of helping people or something along those lines!

Verses and AU
Main verse: His dark materials
Can take place before, during or after the books/TV series. Go see my muse's info if you want to know more about this verse.
The last of us verse:
Asriel was a scientist before the infection, he was studying dark matter. His wife died five months after the infection, unfortunately she was seven-months pregnant. The doctors managed to rescue his child. He named her Lyra Belacqua. He took her to live in a big city, hoping to find some help to raise her there. He found a nice lady and hired her as a nanny. Being a workaholic and mourning his wife, he threw himself into work and left his child with her nanny.
Sherlock verse:
Asriel is a Lord of Britain. He presents a Bill in the House of Lords but during the debate of the second reading, his main opponent Edward Coulter assembles more people to vote against it then Asriel does to vote for it.
During a mundane cocktail, he hears about some James Moriarty who is provoking the famous private detective Sherlock Holmes. Thats when he decides to meet him to plot on the killing of his opponent.
Star wars verse:
Asriel is born on Naboo, but his mother died in childbirth. Quickly his wealthy father moved them to Coruscant because he’s found a new wife there. Tough, he never truly liked his stepmother, making her life hell as soon as he learned how to disobey. So when his father found out he had some potential when Asriel was 7, he sent his son to the Jedi Academy, hoping that it would teach him some manners. Unfortunately, it didn’t work that much. Still full of himself, always bragging about his wealth to his fellow students, he took him so time to learn to hide it when he started being a padawan, understand that bragging wasn't a typical thing for a Jedi.
Once he entered knighthood, he got his training by Jaro Tapal.
His father passed away of old age when he was 16. Luckily for him, it was during the Order 66, so he wasn’t here when everything blew up. Only heard about it when Jaro came to get him and they flew out together. The only last thing his father has left him is his droid, a BD called BD-26
Jaro continued his training in his ship, away from the War going on around them, seeing a lot of potential in his padawan. Until that fatal day when he was just 18 and they were attacked by clones and Jaro died in front of Asriel's eyes. He managed to hide from the clones though. Left alone on that ship, he sent a message to Organa who sent a flight to come to rescue him, as he owed his father a favour. After that, he promised himself to kill every Sith he met, using his anger to do so, using his first master's lightsaber for that.
He quickly joined the rebellion and became an commander in the Alderaan military under Organa's resistance movement
But his anger against the Sith might drive him somewhere else in the future.
Good omens verse:
Asriel is a demon and his main purpose is to prove to humans that God is a fraud.
Vampires AU:
Asriel is an vampire hunter and travels the world to fulfil his will to kill all vampires. But, one day, he meets one and falls in love with it.
Demigod/Percy Jackson verse:
Asriel is a demigod, son of Ares. He was always a child who was enjoying and looking for conflit. He was brilliant but always in trouble. Until the day, he provoked a classmate to a fistfight. He got expelled from his school, and his mother sent him to the only place she knew he'll understand. After finding out who is father was, and during the endless year at the camp, he started to hate the Olympian gods and everything about them.
Outlander verse:
Asriel is the laird of the McLaren clan and engages his clan with the Jacobites during the rebellion of 1749.
Modern verse:
Asriel is a teacher of astrophysics at Oxford University.

Okay so I can’t stop thinking about a potential Star Wars AU and instead of keeping this to myself I have decided to make it everyone else’s problem :)
I’m thinking that Dream, George, and Sapnap are all Jedi Knights - and Bad is on the Jedi Council.
Tommy and Tubbo are both Padawans who are nearly at knighthood - Tommy is George’s apprentice and Tubbo is Sapnap’s. Dream had a padawan (Ran.boo) who he really cared about a lot but unfortunately Ran.boo fell to the darkside and tried to attack and kill his mentor.
Dream accidentally killed him while trying to turn him back, and he has a lot of residual trauma surrounding that (because killing the kid you essentially raised from early teenage years until like, 17-18 and then killing him by accident while trying to save him is going to leave some deep emotional wounds :/). So he tries to be the Fun Uncle to Tommy and Tubbo.
I have no clue what to do with Cartoon Trio - I’m half tempted to make Karl a knight and give him Purple.d as The World’s Most Annoying Padawan but that’s kind of mean so idk lol. I’m thinking either Jedi Knight or space pirates for Karl and Foolish and I think I want Tina to be a cool bounty hunter!
Techno was a Jedi Knight, but he fell out of love with the Jedi Order’s teachings so he left to be with Phil on an arctic planet. He’s also one of the few force users who has acceived and maintained perfect balance between the dark and light sides within himself. Before he left, however, he had Dream as his Padawan :). Sapnap was Bad’s Padawan and George was Skeppy’s - to keep the power in MunchyMC lmao.
Obviously this is a relitively sanitized view of the Clone Wars mostly bc I saw the animated series as a kid and liked it a lot so I tend to look at it through with innocence and wonder a lot more then I do with adult reasoning skills lol.
