A 'No one knows' Au and that one au where Danny leaves behind a corpse after death.
With a twist.
Jack and Maddie, not fearing death but fearing becoming a ghost after death have perfected what one would call functional immortality.
Clones.
Which is kind of why they're pretty careless about danger outside of combat, they just, quite literally, cannot be bothered to care less. If they die? Then their souls would just be thrusted into a clone body.
They didn't just cheat death, they walked all over it, spat on it, and continued walking over it a multitude of times.
Which accidently became a plus for Danny and his secret identity.
See, when Danny went ghost to save the day, he came back only to find his body gone. Safe to say, he panicked and looked everywhere for it, or tried to at least, because if that got out he wouldn't really know how to deal with it.
Only to then learn his parents hid and are quite literally experts at hiding bodies, his included.
Jack and Maddie are quite happy that they were the ones who stumbled upon Danny's body and not anyone else, since it would take a quite long amount of explanation as to why their son was found dead yet seemingly walked to school fine hit Monday!
Well, they weren't happy he died really, as any parent wouldn't be, but they're glad they prepared extra bodies for both him and Jazz in case the day ever came.
Danny awkwardly slid himself into said excuse while trying not to externally freak the fuck out. But hey, at least it's a plus that whenever his parents find his corpse they just, hid it no questions asked.
Good, it would be so weird if anyone managed to find either of their multiple corpses.
But hey! At least Jazz hasn't died yet!

TCF Theory: What If God of Death Had a Reason for Kidnapping Minors?
(Hey, @murasaki-cha, I might have a theory that could sorta maybe redeem your pathetic little meow meow! 😂)
[Also: SPOILER WARNING for... basically everything in TCF?]
So, here's the thing:
It's no secret I always had… issues with the God of Death for kidnapping the Chois.
Let me clarify a bit.
What he did to Kim Rok Soo, aka. Cale, was not okay either – however! I can see it justified somewhat by circumstances: he was cursed, his life was generally depressing and terrible, and there was a world in need of saving. Honestly, the deal with the Original Cale Henituse to switch the two of them was best for all parties involved. (I'm still angry he did not ask Cale himself for permission, though! All the God of Death needed to do was tell him: "Look, this is the world where your BFF Lee Soo Hyuk reincarnated into. And the world is going to be destroyed in about 20 years if nothing is done about it. Would you mind cleaning that up for me?" You bet your butt Cale would have agreed fair and square, even if he were EXTREMELY miffed about the deal. But it's so much easier to simply hide your involvement in the transmigration, so that Cale doesn't have a personal vendetta against you once he gets OP, right…? Not that it succeeded, lol. Cale still ended up cursing the God of Death a lot)
However – all of what I just said? NONE of it applied for the Choi family member.
First, we have Choi Jung Gun, aka. Nelan Barrow. Let me remind you, the kid was FIFTEEN. Freaking 15!!!! The God of Death kidnapped a literal CHILD with no combat experience, and dropped him in the middle of an active war zone! Sure, technically Super Rock was there and presumably took care of him – but still, that was an objectively a terrible thing to do, God of Death! Bad boy!! 🧹🧹🧹
Then we have Choi Han, and ohhh boy, he had even worse somehow! Even though he was 2 years older than Choi Jung Gun when he got transported, he still ended up in the freaking FOREST OF DARKNESS. Weaponless, isolated, under constant threat of death. It's a miracle Choi Han did not die or completely lose his mind – and in a sense he did – but he was still able to retain a piece of himself, NO THANKS TO YOU GOD OF DEATH. My goodness! What a way to treat your "chosen hero ", mister!
...as you can probably tell, I was pissed enough at the God of Death for kidnapping poor Choi Jung Gun, but I am NEVER forgiving him for what Choi Han went thought. Should have given him something! A letter, a sword, or at the very least – A FREAKING MAP!!!
Aaaand finally we have Choi Jung Soo. Which was a bizarre case in comparison to the previous two. Even the God of Death remarked how unusual it was.
First of all, consent was asked – WHAT A TWIST! 🤣
Secondly, Choi Jung Soo was already an adult, and experienced fighter. He'd have a much better time in Nameless 1 world than any of his predecessors (excluding the fact that he'd have a TERRIBLE time trying to fight the White Star; who may I remind you possessed Kim Rok Soo's face... Also, did he even get to read "The Birth of a Hero"...?). He was also on the verge of death. AND he allowed to say no!! It was much more fair than what happened to the other two.
...But why though? Why the special treatment, God of Death? Why not kidnap Choi Jung Soo as a kid as well? The timing was kind of strange.
So here my theory comes in.
What if, it wasn't the God of Death who determined the timing of the transportation? What if there was an outside factor involved? Just because there seemingly wasn't a strict pattern to WHEN the Chois got transported, that doesn't mean there couldn't be one.
An outside factor like, let's say.... the Hunters? 🤔
From his behaviour in the Sloth Test, we know that Choi Jung Gun absolutely hates the Hunters. And it seemed very personal too. Even if we take it for granted that the Hunters were responsible for the existence of the Original White Star and the war and all that... It was still VERY personal. Like, "I will tear you to bloody pieces with my bare hands and chew on them with my teeth" level of personal. So, what gives?
Then it hit me.
The Five Colored Bloods Hunters are Wanderers who can freely travel across dimensions. They targeted young Kim Rok Soo, because he had a "mark" of the God of Death on. They assumed it could be a sign of a Single Lifer, and it did not matter to them if it necessary to kill him just to "check". The only reason why Kim Rok Soo survived was because Choi Jung Gun was there (even though I have issues about his execution – using a minor as BAIT?! Not cool man! Almost as bad as the God of Death!). Without him, young Kim Rok Soo absolutely would have been killed. And the way Choi Jung Gun was acting in the Sloth Test made it seem like it wasn't the first time something like this happened either.
Meaning: the Hunters were already on Earth 1. They have been there.
So, what if... the Hunters had already targeted the Chois in the past? Including Choi Jung Gun himself?
Think about it. If the Hunters had any clue that this particular lineage could produce Single Lifers... they'd certainly keep an eye on the Choi family, right? There would be no need to directly interfere. Just, watching them from the sidelines and let them produce next generations. Spying on their kids – like the total creeps they are.
And perhaps, there was a particular sign of a potential Single Lifer to watch out for, that could manifest around adolescence? What if Choi Jung Gun showed such a sign at the age of 15?
Instead of simply using him as a weapon to save another world... was the God of Death actually trying to save Choi Jung Gun? By transporting him into another dimension??
It would... kinda make sense, right? By transporting Choi Jung Gun, his "Single Lifer power" activated. His lifespan became much longer, he developed an Ancient Power too. He was initially weak, but he grew stronger overtime. Strong enough to stand up to the Hunters and protect himself; and also taking him away from their immediate reach.
...What if the same happened with Choi Han? What if Choi Han became a target at the age of 17? And the only way to save him was to transport him as well? I mean it worked with Choi Jung Gun, why not try it a second time? If the first one became a powerful ally who could fight the Hunters, the God of Death would certainly like another one on his payroll, right?
And then there's Choi Jung Soo, of course. Maybe he escaped the scrutiny of the Hunters? Or maybe because he developed powers which made him a harder target? Why would the Hunters bother with difficult opponents when they can always play dirty and go after literal children, instead? There is also the issue of the Monster Apocalypse, as Cale suspects the Hunters were behind it as well. Maybe the Hunters had a different plan for Earth 1, and so they had to stop using it as hunting grounds for Single Lifers?
If I'm right about this, then the God of Death's actions became a liiiiitle bit more understandable.
I will forever criticize the man for not asking at least three of his victims (and don't try to give me some bull about him being "unable to", God of Death used various means to communicate through the story; Choi Jung Gun even freaking wrote "The Birth of a Hero" books for the sole purpose of giving necessary exposition to a transmigrator – more than that, if he had enough space to simp for Whales and provide Harol's backstory for no reason! He could have included ANY type of message in there, to ANYONE!), but if Choi Jung Gun were to literally die if he did not get kidnapped and transported into a war-torn dimension in need of saving... Well? Saving someone's life via transmigration might be unconventional, but I've seen it happen a lot in many isekai. I can roll with this.
...But seriously tho, I hope Choi Jung Gun makes that broom beating a regular thing. The God of Death certainly can use it. You know – for emotional intelligence improvement! 😏

Hello🤗 Hope you're doing well ❤️
Can I pls request headcanons for BTS members where reader thinks of them as just friends but they have a huge crush on us, then they get jealous when we ignored them for our guy best friend so they forced us to leave but don't confess because they are insecure? And can you please make it fluffy?
I know it's very specific 😅 but I would really appreciate it if you would accept my request ❤️ thank you ❤️
They Get Jealous of Your Guy Friend
Ot7 x Reader
Warnings: swearing, teeny bit of angst, not proofread
A/N: Thank you so much for this request! Oof this concept tho, I love these kinds of concepts! I haven't written an ot7 piece in a hot minute, so it was fun to get back to these! I hope you like it!
Masterlist
Requests are open
°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•
Jin: He would get soo sulky if you weren’t paying attention to him. He’s you best friend, how could you ignore him?!(Although, he’d deny it up and down if you ever accused him of being jealous) He would try and play it off
though, pointing out how late it was getting and ‘hey, didn’t you have some work/school thing you needed to work on?’ maybe with his help?? He’d end up taking you for ice cream or smth on the way home because he feels a lil guilty for spoiling your evening and thinks about explaining, but he’d end up chickening out at the last second and keeping his thoughts to himself, for now at least…
Yoongi: Yoongi would be point blank about it, just like his approach to everything else. He’d stick himself right in the middle of whatever you and your other friend were doing and say that it was time for y’all go, since you’d so conveniently come together(well played, Min), not even letting your friend get out an offer to drop you home themselves before he was saying your goodbyes for you and all but pulling you with him out the door. When he spots you giving him a “wtf?” look, he would just shrug it off, preferring not to explain, all the earlier bravado disappearing with you. “Idk, I just wanted to leave…”
Hobi: ‘It’s fine, it’s fine, it’s fine’ is all that’d been repeating in his head for a solid five minutes as he tried to be cool and let you have a good time, but he couldn’t help feeling more than a bit miffed by the fact that he was being pretty much ignored by his partner. Except you weren’t his partner. Fuck, why did he always seem to forget that when he saw you with them? The last straw tho is when said friend puts a hand on your arm, and he’s up and beside you saying something about a minor emergency and you two have to go. He wasn’t even thinking and just said the first thing he could think of, having to now come up with a ‘whoops, false alarm!’ story so you don’t get mad at him.
Namjoon: Joon wouldn’t even hide the fact that he was irritated when you and your other friend were getting a little too cozy at the club you had gone to, coming over and grumpily telling you that y’all had to go, pulling some k-drama level shit trying to pull you along through the crowd with him. Naturally, you yank your hand away once you’re clear of the people and demand to know what the fuck was his problem, not understanding his sudden attitude. He would very nearly spill it then and there, frustration making him reckless, but he would catch himself at the last second and make up some lame excuse.
Jimin: Sulky No.2, ooh boy. He’d be trying his best(ish) not to be bothered, biting his lip every time he heard you laugh at one of their jokes or smth, but his jealousy would quickly get the better of him. He’d wind his way into the conversation before winding his way back out of it, with you in tow. How he always managed to get you away from the group was beyond you, he’s the smoothest smooth talker. You’d end up going to get dinner or coffee together on the way home,talking about whatever until you catch him staring at you for the third time and tell him to quit looking at you like that. “Like what?” “Like you’re in love with me or something.” “Would that be such a bad thing?” “What?!” “Nevermind, you were saying?”
Taehyung: Tae would come up with a bold faced lie, coming over and saying that he was feeling sick or smth and could you please take him home, knowing you would instantly go into caregiver mode, worrying about him and forgetting all about your other friend. It’s kinda a shitty move, and he knows it, but honestly if he had to sit and watch you smile at him for much longer, he might’ve actually gotten sick. He’d end up half confessing to you, talking about how much you mean to him and how he didn’t know what he’d do without you, might even actually say I love you, wincing a bit when you say that you love him too, and that he’s the best friend you could ever ask for. So close…
Jungkook: Sulky No.3. This boy is about as subtle as a neon sign, if I’m being honest. He hates when you’re not right next to him and you know that perfectly well, which is why you were ignoring him in the first place. His hypocritical attitude was really starting to irritate you, as it was apparently more than fine for him to go and mingle and flirt with whoever he wanted, but not you. By the time he got fed up and said it was time to leave, you were ready for a fight, demanding to know why he was always on your case on nights like this. “Because!” He’d catch the words just before they slipped out, biting his lip. “Because I worry about you.” “It’s not your job to worry about me.” “I know, but I want it to be…”

Just One Date (Yandere!Mirio Togata x Reader)
A/N: Yo this turned out way longer than I expected it to, but I've been working on this for awhile now and I'm mostly happy with how it turned out. Mirio's one of my favorite characters so I just had to write him lol
Tumblr media
Synopsis: You're convinced the Pro Hero Lemillion is just a little too invested with you, and it's starting to make you nervous. You want him to leave you be, but Mirio's offer is something you just can't refuse.
Content Warning: yandere, stalking, manipulation, coercion, drugging, kidnapping, non-consensual touching
Word Count: 4.2k
It all started with you just wanting to be friendly with the young Pro Hero who had decided to try the cafe you worked at. He was a popular and powerful hero, so it was only natural that you’d want to make a good impression. You treated him with kindness and delivered the best customer service you could possibly muster, and he left seeming satisfied with his visit. You thought that was the end of it.
However…
Maybe you had been too friendly with him, and he interpreted it as you being interested in him. Because he sure as hell was interested in you. It used to just be weekly visits during your shift, but now they’ve almost become daily. And you don’t see him just at the cafe anymore. Now, it feels like he’s everywhere. The grocery store, the bank, the mall, even at the movie theater! Whenever you inquire about these so-called “coincidental” encounters, he always passes it off as “being in the area” or “on patrol”, but those excuses aren’t cutting it anymore. There was something off about him, and it was making you feel uneasy. Which has led you to your current situation this afternoon.
“Hey, is (Name) here today?”
You furiously shook your head at your miffed coworker, pleading with her to say no. You were currently hiding in the back kitchen of the cafe you worked at, having found sanctuary there the minute you noticed a certain blond-haired hero approaching the establishment. You had begged your coworker, Unmei, to cover for you and tell him that you weren’t on shift today. Given her huffy and disgruntled ‘yes’, you could only hope she would follow through.
“Sorry…(Name) isn’t here right now…”
Yes! Thank you, Unmei!
“They’re out on their lunch break, but they’ll be back in half an hour or so.”
No! Why would you tell him that, Unmei?
The pro, Lemillion, lit up at this news and he gave her one of his award-winning smiles, saying, “I’ll be back in a bit then. Thanks for letting me know!”
He sashayed away after that, out the doors and down the street. Once he was nowhere in sight, you stormed out of your hiding spot and pulled your colleague to the side.
“What the heck, Unmei? You said you would cover for me!”
The girl shook her head, sighing. “Really, (Name), I don’t get why you’re trying to avoid him. It’s obvious he likes you! Are you really going to pass up the opportunity to date a top Pro Hero?”
“You don’t understand. I swear to God, he follows me wherever I go! No matter where I am, I end up running into him. Not to mention he’s constantly visiting me at work. It’s getting annoying,” You complain, massaging your forehead to quell the headache you’re getting just from thinking about Lemillion.
“Oh, you’re exaggerating,” Unmei chuckled at the thought. “There’s no way he’s everywhere you go. He’s got more important duties than to follow some civilian around. I’m sure it’s just a coincidence.”
“It’s not a coincidence! I don’t know what it is about him, but he kind of gives me the creeps…”
“I think you’re the only person who would ever say Lemillion, of all heroes, is creepy,” Unmei shook her head, completely dismissing your concerns. She began to walk to the back kitchen with dishes in her hands. “I’m jealous, (Name). Not many are lucky enough to have a Pro Hero who’s got the hots for them. And one as popular as him, no less.”
“Lucky is not what I would call it…” You mumbled, but Unmei was too far away to hear.
Thirty minutes came and went faster than you were ready for. You had just finished working through a rush, so you had no time to hide or prepare when Lemillion came through the doors, the biggest smile on his face when he saw you at the counter. You grimaced as he stalked up to you.
“Hey, (Name)! How are you today? Having a good time at work?” His grin was blinding; you couldn’t help but advert your gaze and back up a bit.
“Hi…Lemillion…I’m doing alright,” You muttered. Glancing to the side, you could see Unmei watching you with a smirk on her face. You tried to give her a pleading look to help you out of this situation, but she only gave you an encouraging thumbs-up before disappearing into the kitchen.
“You don’t have to keep calling me by my hero name, remember? We’re pretty close, so just Mirio is fine!”
We are most definitely not close. You thought, but nodded along with his suggestion anyway.
“Ri- Right…so, uh, what can I do for you today?” You said, trying to make this interaction as short as possible.
“Oh, I won’t be getting anything this time,” Mirio scratched the back of his neck. “Actually, I was hoping I could talk to you for a sec. Somewhere a bit more private.”
Uh oh. You hope that didn’t mean what you thought it meant. He wasn’t going to try and ask you out, was he? All of your encounters with him have been generally friendly so far, if you disregard the strange looks of longing and fleeting touches he’d sometimes give you. Despite the fact you’re convinced he’s been following you, you never thought he’d want to take your “relationship” a step further. It was dangerous for Pros to date after all; if any word got out that a hero had a partner, villains could easily snatch them up and use them for their nefarious schemes. This risk only increases tenfold when the hero is in Japan’s Top 10. All the more reason to shut his advances down.
“Um, I’m kind of busy right now. Besides, I just went on break, so I can’t-”
“Lemillion! It’s so good to see you again!” A booming voice resounded from behind you, making you flinch. Turning around, you see your boss approaching, a gleeful look on his face that rivaled the hero in front of you.
“Hey there, Mr. Kyōfu! Just thought I’d drop by and say hello to your lovely employee here!” You internally cringed at Mirio’s compliment and the wink he sent your way.
“Of course! You’re welcome here anytime! Can I get you anything? It’s on the house!” It was obvious how much your boss was sucking up to him, but Mirio didn’t seem to notice.
“Thanks, but I’m good!” The blond chuckled. “Though I was wondering if I could steal (Name) away for a bit? I know they’re busy, but I promise I won’t keep them for too long.”
“Sure, sure!” Mr. Kyōfu nodded, patting your back that you think was meant to be encouraging, but it only made you more uncomfortable. “Go ahead, (Name). We should be fine without you for now.”
“But, sir-” You tried to protest, but Mr. Kyōfu was already pushing you towards the swinging counter door, the only thing separating you from the beaming Pro Hero.
“Keep him company for as long as possible, alright? More customers will want to come in if they see him here,” He uttered lowly, so that only you could hear. “Sit by a window if you can, too.”
Of course all he cared about was the money. Your boss has been nothing but delighted with the fact that Lemillion chooses to make regular visits to his little cafe. Business has never been better here, as many people would do anything to see a big hero in person. So it was no surprise that Mr. Kyōfu would push you to entertain Mirio. Even if it made you super uncomfortable to do so.
You stumbled out the door right to where Mirio was patiently waiting. You wanted to argue with Mr. Kyōfu, tell him you wanted nothing more than to stay as far away from Lemillion as possible. If he wanted to keep the Pro around to be his moneymaker, he could find a way to do it himself. The look he was giving you, however, made any complaint die in your throat. There really was no getting out of this.
I need to find a new job.
Sighing, you reluctantly led Mirio away from the front counter and towards the back of the cafe, where it was more secluded. The both of you sat down in a booth, a nice big window next to you that gave you a view of the bustling city streets. Surprisingly, Mirio had the courtesy to sit across from you rather than next.
“Sooo,” You began awkwardly, hating the way he was staring straight into your eyes, a fond smile stretching across his features. “what did you want to talk about?”
“Well, it’s something that's been on my mind for awhile now, and there was no point in just having it bumble around in my head for so long,” He started, his smile turning almost sheepish. “We’ve known each other for a couple months now, and I just can’t wait any longer to ask you this.”
Here it comes. A grimace forms on your face, dreading his burning question. You were already thinking of ways to turn him down, envisioning his sad and disappointed face when you ultimately rejected him. You would feel slightly bad about the whole thing, but at least how you feel would get through to him, and you would finally be rid of the guy.
“Can I take you out on a date?” Mirio grinned, an oh so optimistic and hopeful look shining in his eyes.
Taking in a deep breath, you made direct eye contact with him, wanting to get your point across loud and clear.
“L-Look, Mirio…” Oh geez, you’re already stuttering. “You’re a real nice guy and I’m, like, super flattered that you’re asking me of all people out, but…my answer is no. I’m sorry.”
Mirio’s smile faltered, a confused expression on his face as he quirked his head to the side. He looked like a giant puppy who couldn’t understand what you were saying.
“Aw, why not? Did I do something wrong?” He asked, a pout forming on his lips. “Oh wait, you must have a boyfriend already, huh? I guess I should have asked beforehand.”
“No, it’s not that. I just…I guess I’m not really…comfortable…going on a date with you.”
“Oh, so I did do something wrong…” Mirio frowned, eyes downcast as he avoided your gaze.
“No! Well, yes, I mean,” You bit your lip, feeling nervous now that you have to confront him and explain the reason why. “The thing is…I know that you’ve been following me, Mirio… There’s just no way you’re always on patrol in the same area wherever I’m at. Granted, I don’t have any proof, but I know it’s not just a coincidence. It’s happened too often now.”
You glanced up to see Mirio staring at you. The unreadable expression he was giving you was slightly unnerving. You were so used to seeing him with a big, dopey grin, it was odd to see anything but on his countenance.
You waited for him to deny your claims, call you crazy to even think someone like him would stoop so low to stalk a civilian just because he liked them. Unmei was right; it sounded ridiculous. But you just couldn’t shake the feeling away. The more time that passed, the more silly you felt for even voicing your concerns. Mirio was probably thinking about how much of a paranoid weirdo you were and was having second thoughts on even suggesting a date. That is, until he started laughing.
“Oh, is that all? I was worried I had offended you or something!” Mirio scratched his cheek, his usual smile having now returned to his face. “I was only looking out for you, sunshine. Making sure you were okay and stuff. That’s kind of my job, you know?”
What? You stare at him, dumbfounded. You couldn’t believe he actually admitted to stalking you, and finds nothing wrong with it no less! Your suspicions were right after all, much to your horror. You weren’t even sure what to say to him next.
“Uh, no? You can’t be seriously trying to justify that by saying it’s part of being a hero! You’re supposed to be looking out for everyone, not just me.”
“I know that, sunshine. And I do! I just take extra special care to make sure you’re safe and sound,” Mirio reached his arm across the table and took a hold of your hand. “You’re important to me, (Name), and I would hate for something bad to happen to you.”
You quickly yanked your hand away and narrowed your eyes at him. How could he think all of this was okay to do? It was a major breach of privacy, and you shuddered at the possibility that he’s followed you home before.
“Nothing bad is going to happen to me. Something might, however, if I’m seen with you. You know just as well as I do the dangers of a Pro dating a civilian, and I don’t want to get involved with all that.”
“I would never let you get hurt, sunshine. We can keep our relationship on the down-low, if that would ease your worries,” Mirio winked, acting like there was a chance you would say yes after what he just confessed.
“The answer is no, end of story. I want you to stop following me and just leave me alone.” You stated firmly. Hopefully, Mirio would get the hint and you could finally go about your life in peace again.
It was never that easy though.
The blond sighed, before an uncharacteristic smirk appeared on his lips. A mischievous twinkle sparkled in his eyes, ready to share an idea that you were sure to dislike.
“How about this: if you go on just one date with me, I promise to leave you alone and never bother you again. Deal?” Mirio stuck out his hand, expecting you to shake it, but you only gave him a skeptical look.
“And what if I don’t?” You inquired, folding your arms across your chest in a challenging manner despite your anxious heart.
Mirio leaned in closer to you. “Then I guess I’ll just have to up my game and try even harder to get you to fall for me! Whatever that may call for.”
Goosebumps rose on the back of your neck and spread down to your arms as you thought about what that could mean. You didn’t want to know how far Mirio was willing to go with all this, but you knew he wasn’t bluffing and really wouldn’t stop his advances. As much as you have come to dislike the hero, you saw that there was no other choice than to accept the ultimatum he has presented to you.
That’s what you hated most about this whole situation. Even if you tried to report him, no one would believe your word over his. He’s one of the best heroes this country has ever seen; his reputation is too good to be tarnished by the claims of one civilian.
It would just be one night with him…
And then he’d leave you alone.
“...Alright, it’s a deal. One date and nothing more.”
* * *
You peered up at the inconspicuous building where Mirio had told you to meet him. It was a restaurant you were unfamiliar with, but the blond vouched that the food there was to die for. He said that he was good friends with the owner, so it wouldn’t be hard for him to place a reservation on such short notice.
Must be nice having so many connections…
Entering the establishment, you breathed a sigh of relief when you saw that this place wasn’t super fancy like you feared. It was nice, sure, but not at the level of having multiple kinds of cutlery placed at your table. You were worried Mirio would take you out somewhere that would be fitting for an anniversary dinner and not a first date.
You fiddled with the bracelet wrapped around your wrist as you approached the host, ready for this night to be over already. Before you could even open your mouth to speak, however, your date himself appeared from around the corner, leaning over in a booth and waving at you.
“Hey, (Name)! Over here!” Mirio called. You had never seen him so happy.
You dragged your feet as you made your way over to him, sporting more of a grimace rather than a smile. Taking a quick look around, you noticed that the restaurant was fairly empty save for a few customers seated far away from where you were headed. You’re not sure if the place is always like this or Mirio had reserved this entire area.
“Wow! You’re looking lovely as ever, sunshine,” Mirio exclaimed when you finally reached his table. “Well, go on and take a seat!”
You sit down across from him, your leg starting to bounce once seated. Picking up the glass that had already been placed at your table, you take a sip of water to try and ease your nerves.
“Did you have any trouble finding this place? I chose somewhere less popular so you wouldn’t have to worry about anyone seeing us together. I hope it’s private enough for ya!” Mirio said, taking a sip of his own glass.
“It was no trouble. And thanks…for accommodating me,” You said.
“I’m beyond stoked that you changed your mind and decided to give me a chance,” Mirio said, flagging down the waiter who just came out of the kitchen. “I promise I’ll make it a memorable night for you. For the both of us.”
You forced me to change my mind. You thought bitterly, choosing not to say anything in favor of having the night go smoothly and quickly. After the both of you order, Mirio tries to engage in some idle chatter. With your short and vague responses, however, it was hard for the conversation to turn into something meaningful.
There was one question on your mind, though. One that you should have asked earlier but never had the chance to. When the waiter brought out your food and left you two to enjoy the meal, you decided that now would be more of a good time than anything to ask him.
“Why exactly do you like me?” You questioned slowly, rubbing your forehead to quell the sudden drowsiness that you felt coming in full force. This night must be taking a bigger toll out of you than you thought it would. “Surely there are plenty of better options out there, so why choose me?”
“Don’t sell yourself short, (Name). You’re an amazing person, you just don’t see it yet.” Mirio encouraged, shooting you a soft smile that was meant to comfort. “Though I do admire that humility of yours! Just like I love your kindness and compassion. The world needs more people like you, sunshine. That’s why I have to try so hard to protect you.”
You had trouble focusing on Mirio’s words, too preoccupied with the fact that you felt dizzy now, like you’ve had one too many to drink even though the only thing you drank tonight was the…water…
No…
“Did…did you do something…to my drink?” You slurred, leaning against the cool wooden table to keep yourself upright. Fear was starting to take over your body as it began to tremble.
“It’s just a little something that will help you see that we’re meant to be together, sunshine,” Through your blurring vision, you could see that Mirio’s smile never wavered. He knew exactly what he was doing. “Go to sleep, okay? And when you wake up, everything will be better. I promise.”
Tears spilled out and slid down your cheeks as you tried to fight off whatever drug he had used on you, but you knew there was no point. It was inevitable. It always was. Your fate had been sealed when Lemillion first came to the cafe and laid his eyes on you.
As you drifted off to sleep, the last thing you could see was Mirio standing up from his seat, getting ready to escort you to God knows where.
* * *
You wake up with the worst headache you could imagine, in the comfiest bed you’ve ever laid in. Confused and groggy, you sit up and assess your surroundings. You’re now in an unfamiliar bedroom, one that was much bigger than your own and seemed to be decorated with you in mind. It was covered in your favorite color scheme and filled with your interests, all things that were eerily similar to the stuff found in your home. You wanted to get up and look around, but the minute you moved your leg, you felt a heavy weight on your ankle. It had been cuffed, with a long chain that was attached to the bedpost.
It was all coming back to you now.
Mirio had drugged you.
And you must be in his home.
Anxiety was starting to settle as the situation was dawning on you. This couldn’t be real. How could Mirio, a Pro Hero, commit such a criminal act? You supposed it was because he knew he could get away with it, but you never thought he would stoop to kidnapping.
You needed to get out of there, but no matter how hard you tugged on the chain, it wouldn’t budge. The cuff looked to be high tech, and needed some kind of special key for it to unlock. You’re sure Mirio’s got it on him, so there was no hope of getting the cuff off yourself.
The door handle started to jiggle as it was unlocked.
Speak of the devil.
In comes the blond-haired man you’ve come to despise, a bright beam on his face despite everything he’s done. His hands hold a tray carrying a glass of water and a plate of apple slices.
“Hey, you’re awake! You’ve been out for a while now, I was starting to get worried,” Mirio said, placing the tray down on the nightstand. “I’m sure your head must hurt, so I brought you some water to help.”
You couldn’t believe he was acting so nonchalant after abducting you. The last thing you wanted to do was drink water that was prepared by him. Fear and anger stirred inside you as you clenched the bedsheets in your fists.
“Mirio, this is insane. You know this isn’t right,” You started, scooting farther up on the bed when your captor sat down right next to you.
“Of course this is right, sunshine. I know you must be scared and confused right now, but you’ll understand eventually,” Mirio reached a hand forward to try and cup your cheek, but you jerked your head away.
“Don’t fucking touch me. You can’t just pretend this is okay and then expect me to play along,” You narrowed your eyes at him, but that hardly deterred Mirio’s smile. “I want you to let me go.”
The man sighed and let his hand drop back to his side. “I can’t do that, (Name). I brought you here so I can keep you safe. You have everything you need here and more! Doesn’t that sound great?”
 “You can’t be serious! You can’t keep me locked up here forever!” You shouted, losing your temper. You wanted to stay calm in this situation, but it was growing increasingly difficult to do so. “I have a life to return to! Please, Mirio, let me go!”
The blond moved closer to your form, resting his hand on your knee. Nothing you said seemed to waver him; he just kept that same stupid grin on his face as he continued to lean towards your face. You tried to back up, but your body was already against the headboard.
Mirio stopped just inches from your face, saying, “Your life will be better now, sunshine. I promise to take good care of you, so don’t worry, okay?” You flinched when he pressed a kiss to your cheek. “I love you so much, (Name). And you’ll realize someday that you need me as much as I need you.”
He patted your head then, before standing up and walking towards the door. “Rest up for a bit now, and then when you wake up, I’ll make us dinner. It can be whatever you want!”
When he left, you began to tug on the chain again out of panic and frustration, hot tears threatening to spill. Why did this have to happen to you of all people? You were just being nice and now look where it got you. Trapped in the home of some delusional hero who thought it was his job to personally protect you.
You glared daggers at the ankle cuff, hoping that if you stared hard enough, it would melt off. You wished you had never served Mirio when he came into the cafe that day. You wished people had listened to you when you told them that he was stalking you. You wished you had said no to his proposal and found another job.
You were foolish to think all he wanted was one date.
Thanks for reading 💕💕 Comments and reblogs are always welcome! Hope ya'll have a good day or night

tags: gn reader - this is a birthday gift for @prettyboykatsuki so reader is bengali! established relationship, pro player isagi, isagi leaves for an overseas trip, fluff, no warnings.
synopsis: when isagi has to leave you for awhile he can’t help but tell you he loves you in every way he can.
Tumblr media
Isagi loves many things about going pro, all his dreams are in the palm of his hand but he fears there is one thing he will never be able to overcome. The act of leaving you for overseas competition. It’s 3:00 am in the airport and he boards in an hour. It’s too early for you - your nine-to-five awaits but you still said you’d drive him to the airport even if you had eye crusts in your lashes. All his paperwork is in hand, luggage safe and examined and it’s time for you to head home. The observation makes you a bit sad - all this time and you’re still a crybaby but it’s okay, Isagi is more endeared by that than anything. You’re wearing one of his hoodies, gray with blue designs, and paired with the sweatpants on your legs, you look like a blob, which makes him laugh.
“Are you laughing at me cuz I’m about to cry?” You ask and there's a pout in your voice that you can’t hide by turning away but you do anyways and Isagi who is the slightest bit taller than you can see over the curve of your cheeks.
“Maybe I am, you’re cute when you cry, especially when it’s over me.” He can’t help but say, it makes the goodbye a little sweeter even if this is one of many. You push at his chest and scoff and again he laughs. Blue eyes crinkle in delight at the small, tentative smile that paints your face when you look at him. It’s nice being like this with you, these moments will be sorely missed when he’s away from you and that alone makes his heartache. He is sure his teammates would tease and laugh at him but Isagi knows only a handful know what love is so their jabs roll off his back like water on a duck’s wing.
Besides, only he knows what it's like to be loved by you - how could he be expected to forgo it so easily?
“I’m really going to miss you,” You say and the words hang heavy. He repeats them to you because what else could he say? He misses you whenever your hand isn’t his and when you’re awake cooking at 4:00 am rather than laying in bed with him sleeping well into daybreak. There is a notification on his smartwatch, the small smile on his face fades into a disgruntled frown and you snort from it.
“What on earth is so funny?” He grumbles, still looking at his watch and rolling pristine blue eyes at the number of messages he’s getting from the team. He boos them in his mind - miffed that they are interrupting his final moments of time with you.
“When you frown like you look like an old tomcat - it’s cute.” You explain, still laughing under your breath and again he rolls his eyes at you. Without fail you let out an indignant “hey!” at the action because you always find that to be a bad habit. He holds your gaze for a moment before you two just laugh, all quiet and breathless because love is stored in the laughter you two collect over the years. Isagi can’t help himself and brings his arms around you, clutching you with a strength that you return. You feel delicate in his arms like he can hold your heart in his embrace instead of just your body.
“I’m really going to miss you.” You repeat yourself, this time into the crewneck sweater he wears over his chest. It smells of the room you two share and you can catch the notes of spices in his cologne.  Burrowing your head further into him you say the words that are only exchanged when the space between the outside world and you two is liminal.
“I love you.” You confess your head still pressed into him like a wilted flower and he huffs with something soft in his eyes. His hand rubs at your back as an idea blooms into his mind, equally adoring as it is devious and he goes to press his mouth to your ear. Isagi is good at listening to other languages, gets a good understanding of them quickly enough that he sounds fluent in some phrases and he only hopes that it doesn’t sound bad when he whispers it to you.
“Ami tomar ke bhalobashi.” - it means “I love you” in the language your family speaks, you explained it to him a bit ago and he’s always wanted to say it to you. Practicing the pronunciation when you aren’t home, even going as far as using online services to help figure out the foreign vowels. He pulls away from you and grins at your shell-shocked face.
“I have to go now-”
“The hell you mean you’re going! You can’t drop that and leave?!” He laughs at your bewildered face and begins to walk away. He's only a few steps away from you when he can hear you ask how he learned that.
“I’ve been practicing since you said to me! I promise to call you every night and say it to you until I come back!” He dashes to where the rest of the team will be waiting, both for him and for boarding, and the empty halls echo with his laughter when he hears you call back.
“You better Isagi Yoichi ! Or you can forget about having your favorite when you get back!”
It’s safe to say that Isagi called you every night on that trip, eagerly saying those words to you again and again.

BAD KARMA! drabble: codax and the airheads (and a close call) cws: cursing, (empty) threats of violence
Tumblr media
"well, you can't see the director right now, because they're at school."
equinox needed to process that for a moment, codax's words echoing inside his unfortunately empty brain. he'd blink if he could, but lacking eyes and eyelids, he couldn't. and so, his disbelief had to be expressed in a different way; taking ahold of the archivist's shoulders and shaking them back and forth. violently.
"i ought to dye your jacket crimson, you gelid class virus!" the torrid class redhead shrieked with frustration, albeit his confusion. "there ain't nothin' called school! you tossed 'em in a freezer, didn't you? you'll be chatterin' yer teeth once i'm through with you, ya little-" he was interrupted by a yellow hand tapping his shoulder, prompting him to also stop shaking poor codax. "what?"
bebe cleared her throat, before taking her hand back. "i read this in a little book i found in the library, but school is an older term for an LHA! kids hated school during the zero era," she explained. "i think codax said school 'cuz the director's from earth zero!"
the taller male stopped to think about what she'd just told him, jaw slowly unclenching as his hold loosened too. "... wait, but that don't make a lotta sense. if the director's doddlin' in an LHA..." he turned back to the cyan-clad archivist. "how're they a director who's tellin' us to come 'nd go for some planet investigation?"
codax had his fingers rubbing circles into his temples, a bit miffed by this inconvenience. "they wanted to continue normal education, according to ebony and sylvester, but not the kind of 'normal' that we're used to. they specifically requested to follow the schooling and education system of earth zero, but have it adjusted so that it would fit their needs." his explanation was followed by a minute of silence, before a snort broke through it.
"ehehe, those are a lotta million dollar words there, cody!" bebe giggled, hiding behind equinox in case the other would grab at her. the aforementioned torrid class groaned though, unsatisfied. "but that'd mean that they're not at an age to be director! maybe yer lyin' t'me and they're actually isolated in pearl!"
but when equinox heard footsteps after the last word, it was actually the shorter man walking away with a deadpan and hands in his pockets.
"too much social interaction today. bye."
equinox will remember that.
"HEY. YOU FUCKIN' ICE CUBE, THAT MEANS THEY'RE PROBABLY ARE IN PEARL, I'LL KILL YA AND YER JACKET'LL BE MINE-"

Kupo - Riku x Reader
Tumblr media
Ooo, I like this one. However, because I already did a haunted house with Hermod, I’m gonna mosey on over to the carnival! I hope you enjoy, anon!
~~~~~
              Eyes on the horizon, I am literally bouncing down the street. The only thing preventing me from bursting into a sprint and shoving Sora out of the way is the grip on my hand holding me in place.
              “Will you calm down,” Riku says. I’m almost one hundred percent certain he’s enjoying the torture he’s putting me through.
              “But Riku! It’s the carnival!” I reply, waving at the rides and booths set up in the distance. “It only comes to Destiny Islands once a year! How are you not excited?!”
              Kairi, walking ahead of us with Sora, turns back. “Cut him some slack. Riku and Sora only got to go to the carnival a couple times.”
              “Yeah,” adds Sora. “Our parents were usually busy when it came around, so we hung out on the island instead.”
              “So he should be even more excited! C’moooooooooon!” The young man easily resists my pulling. “How are you walking even slower?! Aaaaarrrrggghhhh!”
              “What are you complaining about? We’re here.”
              I pause; he’s right. We’re finally here and I feel the built-up excitement just might pop. The bright lights and colors, the mouth-watering smells, the exhilarating rides: it’s been years since I’ve been to a carnival myself so I don’t even know where to start.
              Someone walks by with a plate and Sora practically starts drooling. “What is that? Can we get one?”
              Okay, I know one place not to start.
              “No! You can’t eat yet!” I tell him.
              “Aww, why not?”
              I point to the claw-like structure waving several rows of seats in the air. “Because the last thing you want to do is pay for carnival food and then go on that.”
              He waves me off. “I’ll be fine.”
              I slap that hand down. “No! Ride first, then funnel cake!”
              His blue eyes go wide. “Funnel cake?!”
              “Later!”
              As per my demands, we take on the rides first. Due to space, the rides are situated on either side of the carnival; so on our way to the other side, we pass through the game booths. Lines of stall attendants call out to patrons trying to lure them in. Some seem deceptively easy or just like a good time. On top of that, there’s an old rivalry sparking between Sora and Riku.
              And then I spot it.
              My fingers turn into a death grip around Riku’s hand as I emit the loudest gasp of my life.
              “KUPO!”
              “What?”
              Releasing my boyfriend, I lose the group and slip through the crowd like a snake until I pop up at my targeted booth. There’s a hopeful grin on my face as I awe at the wonderous prize I hope to own by the night’s end. White plushies decorate the shelves in various sizes and even a few different colors.
              “What the hell are you doing?!” Riku catches up, looking miffed. “You can’t freak me out like that!”
              Pointing at the plush hanging above the game, I say, “It’s a moogle, kupo!”
              His green eyes spot my distraction and a sigh emits from his mouth. “You still can’t just freak out like that.”
              “My bad,” I say with a cheeky grin.
              Green eyes roll; he can’t argue with me when I’ve admitted fault, so he moves on. “Anyway, I didn’t know you like moogles.”
              “Are you kidding? Look at that face! That one’s huge!” I wave to the three-foot-tall plush sitting at the back.
              Riku laughs. “Yeah, moogles don’t actually get that big.”
              “Stop ruining the fun!” My attention finally turns to the game and I become a bit more apprehensive. “Hmm, skee-ball…”
              “You got a bone to pick with skee-ball?”
              “Let’s just say it’s not my best game.” Rifling through my pocket, I pull a handful of munny.
              A silver brow quirks. “So you’re gonna waste your munny?”
              “I want that moogle.” The currency drops into the machine, releasing five skee-balls.
              “You’re the kind of person these games target.”
              I pick up one of the balls, sizing up the game ahead. “Hey, even without a prize on the line, carnival games can be fun.”
              “Just not skee-ball?”
              The first ball rolls down the lane, pops up, and bounces off one of the rings before rolling into the 10-point hole.
              I let out a puff. “…Maybe not for me.”
              Riku chuckles and watches the rest of my miserable attempt.
              There were five holes vertically aligned at the other end of the lane with point values of ten, twenty, thirty, forty, and fifty. For the extravagant moogle I had my heart set on, I needed a near perfect game of two hundred and forty points. Alas, with my skee ball skills, I’d be lucky for the keychain prize at one hundred and eighty points. At least I didn’t bring all my munny with me today.
              The game ends with a pitiful score of one hundred twenty. Two following games don’t turn out any better and I figure it’s time to cut my losses.
              “No moogle for me, kupo,” I sigh.
              “Let me try.”
              Before I can question, Riku nudges me out of the way and drops in a few munny. His first attempt is, expectantly, as bad as any of mine, but his second is much smoother; unfortunately, he still ends up ten points shy of any prize. However, a hard glint sparks in his eyes and I consider the problem I may have created.
              Two keychains later, I decide to intervene.
              “It’s fine, sweetheart.” I tug on his arm before he can start the next game. “Let’s go. Sora and Kairi probably went on all the rides without us already.”
              Riku’s eyes flicker between the me and the game but he shakes off the competitive state he’s worked himself into.
              “Yeah. Sorry.”
              “Don’t be. You got these!” I dangle the keychains. “They’re freakin’ cute and there’s one for each of us, kupo!”
              “Are you going to say that all day?” he asks, but I see that quirk at the corner of his lips.
              Capturing his fingers, I lead the way. “Maybe. It’s fun, kupo. Say it.”
              “No. Not gonna happen.”
              “Oh come on! Please, kupo!”
              “No.”
              “Rikuuu! You’re no fun!”
              I pester him to no avail; he’s clearly amused but he’s not budging on this one. Then it’s Kairi and Sora’s turn to pester us about disappearing—of course I get all the blame.
              Our day continues with rides, attractions, games, and food that’s not at all good for you but tastes so good. We did a few more rides before we got food though, because there was no way I was sitting next to anyone on a ride right after eating. Then we moved on to games and attractions. The glass maze might be my favorite; I laughed so hard I almost couldn’t get off the floor. Sora and Riku both got stuck running into walls and now they both glare when we pass by the maze. Competition galore comes around with the games, though I notice Riku actively avoiding the moogle skee-ball stand. To be fair, we did already play it.
              Once I’m confident there will be no barfing on the rides, it’s time for round two. Riku, however, seems distracted and I’m worried he might be getting sick. Just before we jump in line for another ride, he stops.
              “You okay?” I ask.
              “Yeah, but I’m gonna sit this one out. You guys go ahead.”
              “Are you sure?”
              “Yeah. I’m going to walk around for a bit.” Leaning in, Riku presses a kiss to my forehead. “Don’t wait up for me.”
              “Okay, but don’t be gone too long.”
              “Got it.”
              Riku splits off from us as we get in line for the gravity ride, but as he walks, I can’t help wondering what’s up.
              “Where do you think he’s going?” Sora asks.
              “No idea,” I say.
              We enjoy the ride, but when there’s no Riku when we get off, we find another nearby. A couple rides and another shared funnel cake nearly waste an hour but still, there’s no sign of my boyfriend. The sun’s been long gone and booths are starting to close. Soon after, workers begin ushering people towards the exit.
              Standing outside the carnival, I scan the crowds heading home.
              “Where is he?” I question, looking around.
              “He didn’t go home, did he?” Sora says.
              I cross my arms. “If he ditched us, he’s going to be in serious trouble.”
              Kairi folds her arms thoughtfully. Then her eyes light up and a smile plays on her lips. I try to follow her gaze, but just as I turn around, I run face first into something soft.
              Thrown off guard, I cling to the squishy object, which offers no support whatsoever, but, thankfully, someone else keeps me on my feet.
              Stable in my stance, I lean back, coming face to face with a pink-nosed, pompom-wearing, three-foot-tall, winged moogle.
              “Kupo?” I mutter in confusion.
              “For you.”
              My gaze pulls from the plush to find Riku behind this ambush, clearly over-the-moon proud with himself.
              The grin pulling at my mouth comes more from my understanding of his secrecy rather than the gift itself.
              “So that’s what you’ve been up to this whole time,” Kairi announces.
              His ego falters, marred by the tint bleeding across his nose. “Maybe…”
              “Dude, you’ve been gone almost an hour,” Sora blurts out. “How many tries did it take you?”
              The shade darkens. “Uh well…It’s been a while since I played skee-ball…so…”
              Kairi jams a finger against his shoulder with her own smug simper. “You spent that whole hour playing, didn’t you.”
              Suddenly, there’s a shout from the passing crowd. A little girl holding a small moogle waves her hand. “Thank you, moogle man!”
              Another pair of kids behind that family, also with smaller moogles, also wave.
              A hand against his face attempts to hide the face of defeat, but it’s too late—Kairi and Sora have already put two and two together. Riku had won many games of skee-ball, but didn’t stop until he obtained the extra-large prize.
              My arms tighten around the moogle. “Well, I love him.”
              Riku’s pride makes a small recovery. I love that look in his eyes, the one that says he’d do anything, even play a ridiculous game for an hour to win some silly prize.
              “Which one? Riku or the moogle?” Sora asks.
              I giggle. “Yes.”
              While the brunette tries to figure out my answer, I push the moogle onto him. The moment my arms are clear, I lunge at Riku, even throwing my legs around his waist. Pouncing at Riku isn’t exactly an uncommon occurrence, so there’s no surprise when he keeps his balance and holds me up.
              “I love you, kupo.” I nuzzle my nose against his, pulling a chuckle from the young man. “Say it.” He glances away. Not about to take that as an answer, I smush my face against his. “Say it! You know you want to! Say it!”
              Riku’s hands release me, forcing my feet to come down before I drop onto the concrete. He peers down at me, face turning redder with each second and smiling like a bashful fool.
              “I love you too, kupo.”
V3 Boys x SHSL Toy Maker
Shuichi Saihara:
·       Shuichi was surprised by how much he had began to rely on you. He didn’t entirely depend on you, but with you life was certainly much easier.
·       Shuichi liked your toys, thought of them as cute, but there was never any he was particularly attached too unlike how Kaede likely would be with a toy piano. Even as a child he much preferred reading to anything else, it was his lifelong hobby. He still cherished any toys you gave him though. However, that changed one day.
·       It was just a day like any other, Shuichi was in his office discussing being hired by a family for his services. Their pet capybara had gone missing and everyone was upset, especially so were the young children who were distraught and began to bawl. Their parent desperately tried to calm them, but when all attempts had failed, they just started apologizing to Shuichi, who to their confusion was searching through the drawers of his desk. He then squatted on the ground, a few action figures and little stuffed toys in hand, making some comical voice gaining the children’s attention who quickly joined in on playing. After an hour or so, once Shuichi was finally able to pry himself from the fantasy land without upsetting the children, his character haven fallen under a sleeping curse, he got back to his client to discuss the job. When they were to leave, the children refused to part from the toys and Shuichi said it was alright for them to keep the toys. Seeing how good Shuichi was with the children and having toys his client asked if Shuichi had children of his own.
·       That question really stuck to him as he searched for the lost pet. He didn’t dislike the idea of having children with you. If you were up for it maybe… it was something to consider. He did become rather fond of the thought though when he had returned the capybara home. He was invited in and found the children so happily playing with your toys. It also hit him in that moment how much joy your work brought, much like how his own work had those children crying with joy to see their furry companion had returned.
·       Something about that moment changed him, made him want to rely on you. Your kindness in gifting him your work was able to ease the pain of others. He began to keep a stuffed toy or action figure on his work desk instead of hiding them away, so he could be reminded of you all the time, and to cheer up any more hurt children who came his way. In a way, all your toys were very special to him now, all of them held some personal meaning, showing you both just wanted to make people happy… Maybe that was why he fell so hard for you back at Hope’s Peak, you both had the same dream.
    Kaito Momota:
·       You made nothing but space for Kaito. Glow in the dark space themed stickers, star and planet projectors, star chart globes, wooden spaceship puzzles, anything space you could think of you made for Kaito. Your boyfriend adored every last one of your gifts, all of them proudly displayed in his room. Kaito always got so giddy when you gave him something, he always showered you in affection in return, Kaito just found it natural to give you affection much of the time, but he was especially so after getting a gift, he had to give you something in return after all!
·       After giving Kaito another gift, with that bright grin Kaito lifted you off the ground, spinning around, hugging you close as he flopped onto his bed. “Hey, Y/N. Teach me how to make toys.” “Huh? You? Make toys?” “Hey! What’s with that look!?” “Nothing, I’m just surprised it all.” Kaito huffed, slightly miffed at your response. “So, Kaito Momota, the man with his head up in the stars, why would you want to learn?” “To be with you! And everyone plays. Humans play, dogs play, cats play, birds play, everything plays so if I ran into any aliens I could make them some earth toys!” “……… Fine. It would be nice to have you in the workshop for a day.” “A day!? What do you mean a day!? Wait… you believe I’ll master your craft so quickly?” “No. Like your training you won’t keep it up.” You snickered seeing you successfully had gotten a ruse out of him. “I’ll show you!” And with that you successfully ignited a determination in him to prove you wrong and he’d actually keep up on training with you… for a while at least.
·       You underestimated how much of an effect you’d have on him though. There were times when he slacked off in practice or following your teachings, but he never quit entirely. “You seriously thought I’d quit!? Do you even know me! I am Kaito Momota, Luminary of The Stars! I can do anything I set my mind too!” He then presented you some wooden blocks he was working on for you to examine “… Besides, if you think that lowly of me… Then I just have to prove you wrong or you need to raise your standards! You deserve the best boyfriend, and if I’m not that yet, then I’ll become that! It won’t be hard for me! Even when we’re apart and I’m in space I’ll still be the best boyfriend! Or husband! I just have to keep working at it! Just you wait and see. If I’m somehow not now… then I’ll just have to become someone more reliable for you.”
    Ryoma Hoshi:
·       It was a day like any other, you were hidden away at the back of the store in your little workshop, whittling away on a wooden doll when you heard a knock, knock, knocking on the door. “Come in!” You kept working for a few moments, finishing that last line as not to forget it later before turning to your guest. “Ryoma!” It caught the man off guard for a moment how brightly you smiled upon seeing him. “Hey.” “So, what brings my favorite person here?” You were confused seeing what appeared to be a snapped stick and some string. “It’s probably not cool to ask you something like this, and during work hours at that, but-” “wait, the cat toy broke again!?” “Yep.” You took the pieces, spreading them across your desk. “I knew these things were cheep, but I thought it’s at least last longer than the last one. None of the cats even play roughly, so how?” Baffled you scanned over the pieces. Ryoma stood beside you, watching as you looked over where it broke, mumbling something about materials and cost. “Think you can make one that won’t break.” “Think I can!? Who do you think you’re talking too, of course I can!” “Heh, yeah, I should have known.”
·       Ryoma didn’t like distracting you from work, but he rather enjoyed helping you with it. It was always so relaxing helping you gather materials, or to try to mimic your movements and follow your instructions, or to simply watch you. You were always so detailed, yet still found beauty in simplicity, everything you made was perfect.
·       “Hmm… aaaaaaaaaand done. This should do!” You passed it to Ryoma, who looked over your completed work. “Thanks. I’m sure they’ll love it.” “Tell Cheese and the rest I say hi and that I love them.” “Heh, I’ll be sure to do that. Thanks.” “Actually.” You stood up, taking off your apron. “My break will be soon, and as boss I can make the executive decision to take off early. I’ll just stay in a little later today to make up for it. Mind if I tag along? Lunch with my favorite cats just sounds lovely.” “You can tag along any time with me.”
·       Life could be rather rough after having served his time for Ryoma, but he had you and his cats, the only anything that brought stability and joy back into his life. It always hit him just how much your company meant in little moments like these.
    Rantaro Amami:
·       No matter how far Rantaro had went in his search he always carried around several of your toys which reminded him of you. One for each of his missing sisters. Something he knew they would like. Rantaro was fearful at times, what if they had changed so much he didn’t know them anymore? If they didn’t like one toy hopefully another would do, the toys were there simply to bring them joy, or to help calm them should they be coming from a stressful situation. Even if none appealed to their taste, surely your work could still draw out a smile, it had been able to do so for so many others, including himself so surely they would still help. And if it somehow didn’t then at least he had them around for his own sake, hugging them close at night when dark thoughts seeped in or when that homesickness crushed him like a boulder.
·       It was not often you traveled, almost always needing to be making something to fill up your little shop, it got lots of traffic and often things sold out so you had to try to quickly restock, you didn’t have much time for anything else, but at least you were happy making toys, it was good. Truthfully Rantaro preferred it this way. He was scared that if you were by his side during his search, he’d let you down just like he had with all his sisters, losing you and being unable to find you again. At least, even if it hurt to be apart, he knew where you were. It was a bit of an unrealistic fear since you were an adult who could take care of themselves and you had a phone and knew his number, but… it was still a real fear which had festered deep inside of him. He couldn’t lose you as well. He treated your toys like you in a sense, making sure he always knew where each was, and made sure to not leave any behind when traveling.
·       Even if it was only for a short time Rantaro would always return to you. Since you were usually busy all you could really do together was have him watch you work or teach him something you thought he’d find useful while making something like teaching him how to sew. Rantaro always indulged in these times together. He absolutely loved you, and though he liked your toys, they were nothing compared to actually being with you. Soon though the search would continue, at least he had more precious memories along to keep his spirits high.
    Gonta Gokuhara:
·       Gonta loved all of your toys! He found it amazing how you could turn a single piece of wood into a functional little car or some such. You offered to teach him since he was so fascinated. It was a long process with many injuries along the way, fingers pricked on needles, cuts from carving tools, pinches, even burns, but no matter come what may Gonta never gave up and continued to learn your art! It was something important to you, and Gonta wanted to understand it, if he could understand it, then he’d understand you better, and Gonta wanted to learn as much as he could about the person he loved!
·       Though it would not be fair for you to be the only one to be teach so Gonta would teach you all he could about his beloved insects! Gonta wanted you to know him better too after all. Gonta would take you out for walks and such to find some bugs and tell you everything he knew about them. He also thought it good for you to get out of your work shop more often and get some sunshine. All his lessons seemed to have some payoff when you gifted him a realistic looking figure of his beloved bugs.
·       Gonta always showed off his gifts to his forest family when he got the chance. He didn’t get to see them often but when he did he’d regal them with everything he had done, including his time spent with you, he even tried teaching them what you taught him, but it never ended well.
·       Gonta kept all of your gifts perfectly displayed in his room, making sure to take care of them to not let them fade due to time so they could last even a little longer.
·       Gonta was a diligent student  eager to learn more, he wanted to be a gentleman after all and Gonta thought that a gentleman should want to understand all things and continue to learn and grow always! He was going to be the best person he could be to make his family proud, and now he had you his partner, he wanted to be the best partner he could be for you! Not only was he growing but learning under you also gave him an excuse to spend more time with you which admittedly at times was more important to him.
·       After leaving Hope’s Peak, when Gonta began teaching others of bugs he’d actually use the models you had gifted him as examples. With time you had only become more invaluable to him. You were the only one for him, without a doubt.
    Kokichi Oma:
·       Kokichi served as a… rather interesting source of inspiration. He practically insisted on being your muse for some reason unknown to you. He’d giddily drag you around town on a whim going wherever. On these excursions Kokichi would buy something seemingly random only moments later asking if you could make something out of it, even goading you into it if necessary. It were as if he were challenging you to think outside of the box. He’d take you to botanical gardens, museums, theme parks, whatever was new in town and asked if you could make a toy based off of something from one of those attractions. You were never short on ideas with him around, that was for certain.
·       Kokichi also insisted that you both play with your toys, saying there was no point in making them if you never enjoyed them yourself. He’d take you back to times of being a child, playing pretend, making up stories for the toys, building pillow forts to be castles and whatnot. Often this exercise would give you more ideas, even some improvements, and all the while you were taking quick notes Kokichi would cry out for you to return to your fantasy land with him.
·       On occasion Kokichi would commission you to make spy gear for D.I.C.E. Toys with secret compartments that could shoot lasers and sleeping darts and act as walkie talkies, and explode moments after a recorded message was played with a tracking device and maybe even a gps to find some fast food place should they get hungry and maybe even- and the list of things a single item had to accomplish went on, and on, and on. They were large requests, but Kokichi would always insist that only you could accomplish this and no one else. You’d usually give in at some point and take on the request. You always had to adapt, Kokichi always adding or taking out what he wanted at any given time, but in the end he was always satisfied with the product. Coincidentally these requests always came whenever you were losing confidence and when you were struggling with a certain skill which would be a pin point in making the toy work such as wiring.
·       Kokichi in his own way was just always looking out for you, making sure your work never felt like work, that you were always having just as much fun as others had playing with your toys.
    Korekiyo Shinguji:
·       Korekiyo always found great joy in examining your crafts and asking you about them, your inspirations you had, if any for making that particular item, why you used the particular materials you used and whatnot. Most everything was anthropology, and that included your toys. Korekiyo wished to learn how you interpreted this era. He knew without a doubt how your craft would be preserved for eons, future anthropologists studying them, and he wanted an idea of sorts how others might see your work, it was all to beautiful to not be displayed in a museum one day. Kiyo loved having discussions with you, about your distaste for the thought of your work being preserved. To you, your toys were made to be played with and enjoyed so the thought of them being sealed away was disappointing. The pair of you could endlessly discuss the possibility thinking of something new to add to the conversation from such differing points of view. Kiyo was in awe and fascinated by your perspective, he simply had to learn and understand it more!
·       When you were becoming unmotivated for your work Kiyo would take you to a museum or even show you his personal collection of artifacts, show you long forgotten toys or others items, perhaps seeing what cultures of the past had crafted could inspire you in the present which it often did, more so Kiyo speaking so thoroughly about it all, a word or phrase in particular capturing your interest and you dashing off back to your work.
·       On occasion Kiyo would even try to study how you work, your techniques and such, comparing to what he knew from the past. You even tried teaching him since to you watching something and partaking in an activity were completely different things. Again more discussions ensued from your hands on approach and Kiyo being the observing anthropologist. He so loved these discussions seeing how differing your points of view were, yet you still loved one another and could not want for anyone else.
·       You were able to learn and experience so much than you could or would not have on your own without the other. In a way, you were perfect opposites, just similar enough in nature at your core, both wishing to understand one to bring joy the other knowing the past for the future.
    Kiibo:
·       Though Kiibo had told you on multiple times he had a childhood and grew up like any other human being you were still surprised to see how fond Kiibo was of your toys even getting nostalgic, recalling times when he had similar playthings as a child, Doctor Idamashi even taking time out of his busy schedule to play imaginary games with Kiibo. He was always so tender with the objects, you always put so much time and care into every last one, making sure each was up to your standards and excepting nothing less, working tirelessly till it was… like how Idabashi always worked so hard, all for Kiibo’s sake. Even if your work was not specifically for him, he still held all your efforts so dearly.
·       Kiibo however had some… issues with your more electronic toys, like the robot dog, or the futuristic robot dog, or the little robot dog, or the robot dog on wheels, or the robot dog with a toy gun attached to it’s back, or the robot cat, or the futuristic robot dog on wheels… There was a big demand for robot dogs and you always delivered them, much to Kiibo’s chagrin, especially when you were testing them and playing with them and giving them all your attention. You’d try comforting Kiibo by saying he was the only robot for you, but that only ever made him more upset.
·       On occasion you’d find Kiibo indulging his inner child, playing with one of your toys only for him to immediately clam up and get embarrassed, his face heating up and flushing a bright pink and his face covering clamping shut in an attempt to cover it upon realizing you had seen him. You’d join in on the fun, Kiibo eventually loosening up and playing again. Kiibo thought it silly, but Kiibo found this fun. It took him back to a time when he was just happy and wasn’t aware of the harsh robophobia the world festered. He could just enjoy himself and feel like a person, forget troubling thoughts, like you thinking he was a mere toy, he could be a child with you and just enjoy your company. Both of you just being human. In a way, it was like you were now apart of his childhood, there for the good times. Kiibo truly loved you, and maybe… just maybe moments like this would get you to see he truly was a person too, so you could love him in the same way.
apple pie & ice cream
Kenma x Reader - Scenario
desc: gloomy days can always be brightened with sweet smells, cinnamon sugar, and a homemade apple pie from yours truly: Kenma Kozume
a/n: to the anon who requested this a little while ago... happy birthday, love!! i hope you’re okay that i switched things around a little bit & had Kenma make you something sweet instead <3</i>
warning: slight language
wc: 1580
---
Some days are longer than others.
You’ve never had a good explanation as to why, but there are at least some telltale signs.
Like when red lights seem endless, your favorite song doesn’t sound as pretty as it should, and you just can’t keep your tired eyes open. Even with a cozy mug of hot tea in hand or the gentle stream of sunlight filtering through your office’s window, the warmth on your fingertips and face simply refused to reach you on the inside.
It also doesn’t help that you were flipped off not once, but twice, by some shitty drivers when you clearly had the right of way.
So you determine that the faster you can get home to Kenma, the better you’ll feel.
You take every short-cut and any back road, impatiently awaiting the moment that you can kick off your uncomfortable shoes and step out of those constricting work clothes. To turn on the air-conditioning and crash into a couch that proves to be far more welcoming than the outside world. Even just a nice, long stretch would do your aching back and heavy arms some good.
But most of all, you long to sink into Kenmas chest and lazily breathe in the comforting smell of home that rested on his well-worn hoodies. To run your fingers through his silky, soft hair and make messy braids out of it while sighing heavily to relinquish the day's grip on your tight shoulders. You can’t wait to bother him until he sets aside his black and red headphones to kiss your forehead and pull you into a soul-catching hug.
Most crappy days call for extra love from your gamer-boyfriend… but today Kenma has really gone out of his way to shower you in sweetness. Literally.
You’d sent him an awfully lengthy text about the number of crazy drivers on the road, the dreary weather overhead, following it up with a recap of your teary-eyed breakdown in a fast food chain parking lot... and you topped it off with just how much you missed him.
So he did the one thing he knew could lift anyone’s spirits.
Kenma got to baking his world famous apple pie.
Countertops were covered in white and brown sugar, apple peels, and other various, scattered ingredients. A store-bought pie crust was preheating in the oven, because only God knows how long it would take for Kenma to learn how to make that from scratch. Spices plumed in delicate, little clouds throughout the kitchen. Everything was coming together beautifully.
Kenma mumbles to himself quietly, a little miffed that he’s missing his weekly streaming session...
But secretly, he’s been meaning to do this for you for a long time.
He’s been dying to thank you for putting up with his incessant live shows and never-ending computer gameplay. For living with him in his rental house even though he could probably (definitely) afford something far more luxurious. And you deserved luxurious. You should be decked out in diamonds and fancy cashmere, lounging on a sofa atop some rooftop garden oasis that overlooks the entirety of Tokyo, and dancing the night away at clubs and galas.
But you chose him.
Simple Kozume.
A smaller-framed boy with a knack for video-games, patterns, and strategy. The one they jokingly called “pudding head” in high school. That kid who used to hide behind his own hair because the world around him was far more daunting than he thought he could handle.
Kenma would rather stay in and binge a series on netflix than spend a night out on the town. He invests himself in playing an overly-competitive tournament of Mario Kart with you over flying out for a highstakes game of poker in Vegas. He prefers nights surrounded in fairy lights when you collaborate on videos with him, throw popcorn at his long hair, and drink a bit too much just because you both compliment each other more when you’re a little tipsy.
You love all of this about him and you’ve reminded him time after time that you wouldn’t trade him for the world… yet Kenma is still determined to at least have this apple pie done by the time you get home.
But as luck would have it, you’re early.
The lock to the door clicks and twists as you slide it open with a few squeaks.
Your senses are instantly delighted by the blooming fragrance of cinnamon and nutmeg. An ambrosial wafting of warm apples and pastry dough permeates the airspace while the added ginger and lemon cut through the sweet scent.
As if the room had just handed over a fluffy blanket and set you in front of a crackly, wood-burning fire, you’re filled with that much needed comfort.
You’re home. And it smells so damn good.
If heaven had a scent, this was it. And you might as well be wearing a halo and angel wings.
“Kozume…?” You call out, wondering if it was really your boyfriend in the kitchen creating that mouth-watering aroma.
“...yes, y/n?” He replies slowly, trying to clean up the countertops, a little frustrated that the pie wasn’t finished in time for your arrival.
“Is that you? Or did Gordon Ramsey break into my house and take over my kitchen?” You giggle, waltzing into the kitchen, the stress of the day being alleviated immediately upon seeing those speculative, gold-speckled eyes.
His hands are in his hoodie pockets, but when your form turns corner into the kitchen and makes its way toward him, Kenma draws them out and sneaks his hands up to your cheeks, cupping them gently.
He leans in, his expression a tad quizzical and somewhat mysterious, and whispers…
“You’re an idiot sandwich.”
A laugh bubbles up and out, shaking your whole body as you wrap your arms around his frame. You’d seen him just this morning, but wow you’d missed him and his extensive knowledge of meme culture. Now Kenma has his arms draped around your waist, hands squeezing at your hips a little. Your flustered but smiley expression spurs on a soft chuckle, a gentle yet deep rumbling in his throat.
“I thought you’d be back a little bit later, but I’m glad you’re here.” He murmurs out, voice tired but so soothing to your ears.
“Mmm, I’m glad to be back… now are you gonna tell me what that magnificent smell is? Or should I open up the oven and check?” The cheeky tinge to your voice causes him to pull away from you for a moment to look you in the eye.
“If you want it to turn out well, I’d keep your pretty little hands away from the oven for the next few minutes.” Kenma quips.
You playfully stick out your tongue but then proceed to place a teasing peck between his eyes, making him crinkle his nose cutely.
“So, when you sent me those texts earlier, I might have accidentally made an apple pie.” Kenma admits, looking away.
“Accidentally?” A grin slowly spreads across your face, eyes glinting with humor.
“Yep. Accidentally.” He shrugs, “I found some ingredients and a pie dish and I just accidentally threw it all together. So yeah, how convenient is that?”
You sigh, rolling your eyes.
He’s really something else. And to think your day had previously been wrought with misery and disappointment.
“Mmm I don’t know, Kozume… it doesn’t sound like an accident to me. I think you did it because you wanted to be sweet.” You whisper softly into his ear.
Leaning back to brush away a strand of his hair from his face to get a full visual of his cat-like gaze.
“And why would I do that?” He teases gently.
“Oh, I don’t know… maybe because you love me?” You poke at his shoulder.
“Huh? Love?” He gives you a goofy look, raising both eyebrows in mock confusion. “...Is that some kind of sauce?”
He tries to keep a straight face, but the quirk of his lip gives him away.
You just stare at him before giving in to another fit of rolling giggles. The hearty, unrestrained laughter overtakes the both of you, causing you to double over and clutch your middle in an attempt to hold yourself up. Kenma has his back up against the counter-top, holding the edges of it with both palms to keep himself steady and from falling to the floor.
As you both recover from aching lungs and that cloudy, euphoric feeling, you can’t help but let a smile plaster itself on your face.
Kenma has done many things today.
He gave you a reason to come home with hope in your heart. He’d drawn you into a heartfelt, soul-refreshing hug. He had made you laugh like nobody ever could. He’d even baked you an apple pie.
But best of all, he‘d held you together.
Like he always did.
Every single day, without a doubt in your mind, you could celebrate and smile. Because you would always have this cinnamon-covered cutie to smile and crack up with. He would always brighten the most mundane of weekdays and find the loveliest of ways to match your moods.
You two are like apple pie and vanilla bean ice cream.
And speaking of ice cream…
“Hey, Kozume?” You bring him into one more bear-like hug.
“Yeah, babe?”
“Did you get ice cream to go with the apple pie?” You ask, your face preciously tucked into the crook of his neck.
No reply. Had he heard you?
“Kozume? Did-”
Cue a huge sigh from Kenma.
“...Where are my car keys? I need to go to the store immediately.”
An Art of Balance #30
Chapter 30: Making Amends
The conversations with Orion and Skye kept gnawing at Lizzie over the next few days. In their own ways, both of them had made it clear to her how important it was to get back on track; not only for herself, but for the general good of their team as well.
Thinking about what they had said, Lizzie realised how much of an open door they had been pushing; there was nothing she wanted more than things to return to their normal state, so she could have all of her friends back. And if making amends would help increase her performance, all the better.
There wasn’t much she could do about either Rowan or Orion at this point, so Lizzie had started thinking about how to get back into Charlie's good books.
Skye had suggested a gesture of goodwill to make him listen to her and after contemplating her advice for a few days, an idea had started to form in Lizzie’s mind.
After sending a few owls back and forth, she now found herself in the hallway of the Eastern Tower. She had been standing in front of the portrait hole hiding the entrance to the Gryffindor Common Room for quite some time now, engaged in a heated discussion with the Fat Lady, the occupant of the picture guarding the portrait hole.
“I really don’t see the problem,” Lizzie rolled her eyes; she had forgotten just how many times she had done this in the last half hour. “I don’t even know if he’s in. Can’t you just go inside and have a look? Or ask another portrait for all that it’s worth?”
The Fat Lady huffed indignantly, fluffing herself up to an even greater volume than she held anyway. “And leave my post unguarded? No way, young lady. I still don’t understand what a Hufflepuff is doing here in the first place.”
She gestured at Lizzie’s attire dismissively. It was the evening before the match and the pre-match party was scheduled to start immediately after dinner. Lizzie was already dressed in her yellow jersey from last season and a black letterman jacket bearing her name and number on the back; it had been a combined birthday gift from her friends back in November.
Lizzie buried her hands in the pocket of her jacket now, feeling the rough parchment of the letter she was carrying. “I told you, I’m looking for Charlie.”
“From what I hear, you have a match against my House tomorrow,” the Fat Lady squinted down at her suspiciously, “you have no business here.”
“Your House?” Lizzie asked with an amused undertone. “You’re a portrait, you are just guarding the entrance.”
“Careful missy,” the portrait puffed and slung her pink feather boa over her shoulder; it made her look like an inflated bird of paradise. “I’ve guarded this Common Room a lot longer than you are around; these are basically my children!”
Knowing that a fight wouldn’t help her much, Lizzie hung her head and sighed. “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean it that way,” she tried a different approach. “I really just want to apologise to my friend.”
Lizzie pinched the bridge of her nose; this was taking a lot longer than she had anticipated. The sound of approaching footsteps caught her attention; Percy was walking down the corridor towards them, his arms stacked with way more books than what looked comfortable to carry.
“What are you doing here?” he barked at her haughtily; Lizzie had to stifle a laugh at the show the little boy she’d known for ages by now was putting on. He had always been a little bit more stuck up than his brothers, but this new persona he was putting on since coming to Hogwarts certainly wasn’t the most pleasant one.
“Hey Perce,” she greeted him sardonically. “You’ve been to the library?”
“I asked you a question,” Percy insisted. The way he was acting up was too comical for Lizzie not to chuckle; angry red spots appeared on the boy’s pale cheeks.
“This is the Gryffindor Common Room,” he pointed out unnecessarily. “Last time I looked, the Hufflepuff Common Room was down in the dungeons.”
Shaking her head, Lizzie rolled her eyes at Percy. “You don’t say, Percy. Do you know if Charlie’s in there?” She pointed her thumb towards the entrance.
Percy sniffled at being laughed at by her. “No, I don’t know if my brother is in the Common Room.”
Slowly but surely, Lizzie was getting annoyed by the constant delay. “Well, could you go and have a look please?”
“What business do you have with him anyway? I don’t think he wants to talk to you.”
Lizzie crossed her arms in front of her chest and glared at Charlie’s younger brother. “Don’t you think that’s best for him to decide?”
Percy opened his mouth to shoot back but got cut off by the familiar figure of Julian Bennett approaching them. The Gryffindor Beater raised his eyebrows at the unusual gathering in front of him.
“Hey, Lizzie,” he greeted her with a pat on the back. “I didn’t expect to see you here; isn’t the pre-match party going down soon?”
Julian’s casual demeanour felt awkward to Lizzie; they hadn’t really talked to each other since her falling out with Charlie, but she was glad for it all the same. It was nice to see a friendly face that was wearing crimson-and-gold for a change.
“Julian, thank Godric you’re here; finally someone with a bit of sense.” Her eyes were shooting daggers at Percy, who shuffled his feet uncomfortably. “I’ve been looking for Charlie for some time now; do you know where he is?”
“What do you want from him?”
“There’s some things I wanted to get out of the way before tomorrow.” She ran her finger along the edge of the letter in her pocket.
Julian nodded. “I see; let me see if I can round him up.”
He turned to the Fat Lady. “Gryphon,” he told her the password, much to the dismay of Percy. But Julian simply ignored his complaints and vanished behind the portrait.
“Was that so hard?” Lizzie couldn’t help but mutter under her breath.
Only a few moments later, the portrait swung aside again and Julian emerged with a scowling Charlie in tow.
Still miffed at the situation, Percy made no move to leave, so Julian simply shoved him back into the Common Room to give Lizzie and Charlie some space.
When they were alone, Charlie looked her up and down dismissively. He raised his chin defiantly. “What do you want?”
Lizzie glanced at the portrait of the Fat Lady, who seemed to be awfully interested in her fingernails all of a sudden. “Could we go someplace more private?”
But Charlie merely crossed his arms in front of his chest. “No,” he brushed her off brusquely. “Listen, I’ve got to prepare for tomorrow; say what you came to say or leave me alone.”
Lizzie tried not to be discouraged by his resentment; she couldn’t even blame him for it. If she were in his place, she probably would have acted the same way.
“Tomorrow is what I want to talk to you about, in a way,” she sighed, inherently hoping he would listen to her apology. “We’ve never faced each other on the pitch while fighting, we were always seeing eye to eye. I don’t want to start this now.”
Charlie’s arms were still crossed but Lizzie could see a bit of tension leave his shoulders; maybe there was a bit of hope to set things right.
“So?”
She drew a deep breath. “I know I acted like a total idiot and I want to apologise; I should never have doubted you and your intentions and it was very wrong of me to lash out at you for trying to cheer me up when I didn’t even tell you how upset I really was. I was hurt and confused and none of this is your fault and for the record, I’d happily play with all of the magical creatures for the rest of our time here with you because without you, it’s not the same.”
The words had stumbled out of her mouth in a quick rush without giving her the opportunity to breathe in between her sentences; she was too afraid to forget something.
After she was done, Charlie just stood there with an unmoving expression on his face. The longer he didn’t say anything, the more scared Lizzie got that he wouldn’t accept her apology.
But then, the smallest of smiles tugged at Charlie’s lips. “Did you rehearse that?”
Lizzie blushed slightly as relief that he didn’t dismiss her right away washed over her. “Maybe,” she admitted sheepishly. “Listen, Charlie, I’m sorry for how I behaved; I miss you. I miss spending time with you, I miss all your random dragon facts you’re throwing at me and I miss you setting my head straight when I need you to. I don’t want to go out and play against you tomorrow when we can’t look each other in the eye.”
Charlie’s freckled features went soft at her admission. “I’m sorry, too.”
“I know you’d never use me or my feelings for your own advantage; it was wrong to assume that.”
He inclined his head. “Thank you for saying that.” He looked at her for a moment, contemplating. “I can’t say what I said was a lie, though. You did change a lot this year. But that’s not what rubbed me the wrong way,” he quickly added as she winced.
“What stung was the fact that you were trying to hide these changes,” he explained. “You didn’t trust me enough to be honest with me.”
“I was scared to tell you because you know me better than anyone else does,” Lizzie replied quietly. “I was afraid you’d call me out and tell me all the stuff I didn’t want to hear.”
“Oh, I certainly would have,” Charlie confirmed matter-of-factly.
“Of course you would have,” Lizzie sighed. “Who knows, maybe the outcome would’ve been better if I had been honest with myself in the first place.”
Charlie shrugged. “Maybe, but we’re not going to find out now. What’s done is done; no use fretting over the past, like my mum always says. But in any case, I’m glad you plucked up the courage to acknowledge your mistakes. Perhaps there’s still more of the old Lizzie in there than I thought after all,” he said with a small grin.
It lessened a little as he continued, “Just don’t lie to me again, please. If you can’t even trust your friends, you’re truly in a really bad place.”
Her eyes were serious as she placed her hand on his forearm. “I promise, no more lies; you can trust me, I’m done running from my problems.”
She reached into the pocket of her jacket and procured the letter she had kept hidden. Smoothing the slightly crinkled envelope for a second, she held it out to Charlie.
“See, I even brought you a present.”
Charlie took it from her with a surprised face. He turned the heavy envelope around, raising one eyebrow as he discovered the logo of the Ministry of Magic printed on the back of it.
“What is that?”
“That,” Lizzie grinned broadly, “is my official offer of peace.”
Charlie looked at her sceptically.
“That was Skye’s idea,” Lizzie added with a shrug. “She thought you’d might give me a chance if I bribed you with something nice.”
Charlie shook his head as he broke the red wax seal. “Just when I thought I’d seen it all… “
His voice trailed off as he started reading the contents of the letter. Eyes wide and mouth hanging slightly open, he read the letter two more times.
“Is that… “ he started croaking before clearing his throat. “Is that what I think it is?”
Lizzie tried her best not to look smug but she couldn’t help the wide grin that had appeared on her face watching Charlie read the letter.
“It is,” she confirmed. “Fresh from the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures. It arrived this morning.”
One of the Christmas presents she had gotten from her father this year had been a special one; working for the Ministry, he had gotten wind of an internship place being open with some of the Ministry’s dragonologists; they were supposed to conduct a study on the mating behaviour of Welsh Greens over the summer and were looking for helping hands.
Knowing her interest in Care of Magical Creatures, her father had put her name down without telling her, presenting her with the acceptance letter on Christmas Day.
Lizzie knew she owed her father big time for helping her realise her plan in such a short span of time; he had moved heaven and hell and deployed all of his Ministry contacts to make sure the name on the internship letter had gotten changed.
Charlie was still in a bit of a shock as he looked from the letter to her and back again.
“But this is your internship,” he whispered hoarsely, “you have been talking about this for months. These spots are so rare; are you sure you really want to give it to me?”
Lizzie nodded in confirmation. “Yes, I am. This is my way of saying sorry; and you deserve this spot a thousand times more than I do.” The way she smiled at him was uncharacteristically shy for her somehow. “Besides, after the career advice session I’m not sure I want to go down the magizoologist route anyway.”
“You don’t?”
A blush spread on Lizzie’s face; admitting her career plans out loud for the first time sounded foolish to her ears. “I thought, I might perhaps want to try going for a professional Quidditch career.” She strongly hoped Charlie wouldn’t laugh.
But he only winked at her with an encouraging grin. “As far as I can say, you’d definitely have what it takes, chipmunk.”
As he heard the stupid little nickname leaves his mouth, Lizzie’s mouth curved into a brilliant, hopeful smile. “So you officially accept my apology?”
He waved the letter in her face. “You bet I do. I might even take you out for dinner now.” He wiggled his eyebrows at her, making Lizzie giggle.
“Is that so?”
“Yes, I found this amazing new place the other day. It’s called ‘The Great Hall’; it’s usually a bit crowded this time of the day, but I hear they have amazing sandwiches.”
Lizzie felt like a heavy weight had been lifted from her shoulders as they both started laughing at the same time. All the resentment that had been brewing between them had vanished in an instant and it just felt normal again; it was the best feeling Lizzie could have imagined.
“Do I get a hug now, or what?” Charlie laughed and opened his arms for her.
Without hesitation, Lizzie stepped into them and let herself be enveloped by one of Charlie’s bear hugs she had missed so much.
“Good to have you back,” he whispered against her hair, making her smile broaden until her cheeks hurt.
“Aw, look at the two of you,” the dreamy voice of the Fat Lady, they had completely forgotten about, suddenly broke the atmosphere. “Young love, finally reunited again.”
Charlie let go of Lizzie and they both stared at her reproachfully. “We’re only friends!” they spoke out in perfect unison. Sharing another glance, they both exploded with laughter. Lizzie would say this sentence a thousand times and more if it only meant she had her friend back at her side.
The traces of laughter still hanging onto his face, Charlie stepped towards her and offered her his arm like a gentleman would to his lady; still chuckling, Lizzie took it.
“Now, milady, let’s go get some food.”
*
The Great Hall was already packed with students when they arrived. Lizzie’s arm was still linked with Charlie’s as they were laughing and joking with each like nothing had happened. She could have let go of him, of course, but she just enjoyed being back in his company way too much.
As they entered the Great Hall side by side, Lizzie didn’t fail to notice the whispers and sideways glances they were drawing from several of their peers. Although the rumours had stopped when the frosty atmosphere between them had become public knowledge, they hadn’t been set right either.
But Lizzie chose to ignore the raised eyebrows and scowls directed at them this time around; she straightened her back subconsciously as they walked through the space between the Gryffindor and Hufflepuff tables and let it all wash over her. She was done bothering with what people who didn’t even really know her would think; the ones she cared for knew the truth and that was all that matters. She had been worrying about other people’s opinions far too much these last few weeks.
When they reached where the rest of the Gryffindor team was sitting, Charlie sat down with them, gesturing for her to join them, but Lizzie declined the offer. She was glad their fight was over, but she didn’t want to push her luck; sitting with the players of the opposing team on the evening before the match maybe would have been a bit too much.
“Alright,” he shrugged as he sat down in between his team mates. “See you tomorrow on the pitch then.”
Lizzie smiled broadly. “I’m looking forward to it.”
“Let’s see if you still think so after I’ve caught the snitch,” Charlie smirked. “But don’t worry, you can have it afterwards, as a consolation prize.”
The other Gryffindors snickered as Lizzie raised her chin defiantly. “Careful Weasley, pride comes before the fall.” But her eyes were sparkling in anticipation of the challenge.
Leaving the Gryffindor table behind, she walked over to her own House Table. She had seen Penny and Rowan sitting a bit further ahead; Lizzie hadn’t really sat with them during dinner in the last couple of days, especially not without Skye joining them, but her dark haired friend was nowhere to be seen.
Walking up to the two girls, her eyes drifted to the head of the table where Orion was sitting with McNully. She had seen him watching her when she’d entered the Great Hall with Charlie; she knew the fluttery feeling inside her stomach didn’t solely come from the anticipation of tomorrow’s match.
He and Murphy were undoubtedly discussing the last details for tomorrow, but as their eyes met for a split second, Lizzie offered him a small smile. It was gone almost too quickly to see, but she knew he’d caught it by the way the corners of his own mouth curved slightly upwards. He gave her the hint of an acknowledging nod before he turned his attention back on his and Murphy’s tactical discussion.
Lizzie was glad he had encouraged her to make amends with her friends; not only because she wanted them back, but also because it made her feel closer to him again.
She braced herself for the next part; Charlie was done, so now onto the next.
Approaching Rowan and Penny, Lizzie put on a markedly cheerful smile, trying to mask the touch of apprehensiveness she felt at her next task. “May I sit with you?”
Rowan just looked at her silently, her eyes unreadable behind her glasses.
Penny however, immediately moved over to make room for her on the bench. “Sure, go ahead,” she beamed up at her. Inwardly, Lizzie sighed thankfully; at least Penny seemed to be as eager to return to their normal state before the year was done than she was.
“We were just discussing if we might need something else for the pre-match party later,” she explained, pointing to a checklist spread out between their plates. “You’re coming, aren’t you?” she asked somewhat hopefully.
“Of course I am,” Lizzie smiled in return. “I’ve never missed one so far, have I?”
In truth, nothing was further from her mind than attending a party right now; the thought about being in a crowd that was working itself up in their excitement for the season finale made her stomach churn. But in a way, popping in to the pre-match parties had somehow become part of her own pre-match ritual; Lizzie wasn’t really superstitious, but figured this maybe wasn’t the best time to meddle with established routines.
Trying to take her mind off the prospect of the party, she poured herself some pumpkin juice. “Sounds like you’re excited for tomorrow.”
“You bet!” Penny beamed at her. “I can’t wait for the match to start! Hufflepuff is playing for the Cup the second year in a row, it’s time to bring it back where it belongs. Gryffindor is a really tough opponent, though; it will be a tough match, but you’ve trained so hard, I’m sure you’ll come out on top…”
When Penny noticed her rambling, she blushed slightly and shut up. Lizzie watched Rowan from across the table; she had been remarkably silent since Lizzie had joined them.
“What about you, Rowan?” Lizzie asked quietly.
Rowan quickly looked up from her dinner. “What about me?”
“You’re coming to the match, aren’t you?”
“I don’t know yet,” Rowan mumbled evasively, pushing her food around her plate while avoiding Lizzie’s eyes. “The O.W.L.s are so close now and I’ve still got so much more to study and revise.”
But both of them knew, this was only partly true. The two of them had lived in some sort of tentative truce the last couple of weeks, each keeping her distance from the other in a way. But the Quidditch pitch was Lizzie’s terrain; Rowan coming along would be a step back into a normality that Lizzie wasn’t sure they would achieve again; but she sure was hoping so.
“Listen,” she sighed. “I know it’s been weird between us ever since… you know.” Lizzie was struggling for words; she just couldn’t bring herself to actually ‘you caught me and Orion making out’ out loud. It was a thought she’d probably never get used to.
“What I want to say is, it would mean a great deal to me if I knew you’d be there tomorrow. You never missed a single match, you were always there to cheer me on.” She offered Rowan a weak smile. “I’m only half as good without you.”
To her surprise, for the first time in ages, Rowan smiled back at her. “That’s nonsense and you know it; you’ll be brilliant no matter who is watching.”
Lizzie grimaced, but secretly, Rowan’s kind words felt like balm for her soul. “Please don’t try to prove me wrong by not coming.”
“Alright, I’ll be there. But be damned if Gryffindor wins and my precious study turns out to be wasted,” she added with a joking threat.
“Don’t worry, I won’t let you down!” A wide, relieved grin spread on Lizzie’s face; she instantly felt a lot lighter. “Skye and I have been practising some new moves, the lions have no chance at all.”
“Where’s Skye anyway?” Penny now piped up. “I haven’t seen her for some time now; I thought she was with you.”
Lizzie’s brow furrowed. “No, I haven’t seen her since class, why?”
“She got a letter earlier and seemed really rattled while reading it. She went all pale and ran off before I had a chance to ask what’s wrong; no one has seen her since.”
Lizzie didn’t like the sound of that at all. She was nervous enough as it was herself, Skye freaking out at the last minute was the last thing they needed. If she had been missing for quite some time now, there was no way to tell if she had worked herself into one of her states again and Lizzie had the very distinct feeling she should go and check on her friend immediately.
Luckily, she had a very good idea on exactly where to find her.
"Okay, you have passed all our tests. We can officially clear you now. Congratulations, Y/N!" your therapist informs you while you are sitting on the floor, panting, after pushing yourself hard.
You grin widely, elated. "Thank you!!" With your phone in hand, you are so excited to share the good news with Jay.
"I will send my notes to your physical trainer in Amsterdam. That way, he can correctly maintain your fitness level." your therapist pats your shoulder and leaves.
Your heart suddenly dropped. How could you forget that you're leaving? What should you tell Jay now?
◢◤
Jay's cell phone rang on his desk when he went to the restroom. Hailey planned to answer it if it's related to the case they're working on. But when she sees your name on the screen, she lets it ring. The phone soon stops ringing. It only chirps one time after that.
"Your boo was calling," Hailey says, a bit miffed, to Jay. He grabs his phone to check it. "She gets that you're currently working, right?" Hailey continues as Jay scrolls on his phone. Ignoring his partner's comment, he immediately leaves the room.
Jay sees you standing on the sidewalk outside the 21st District. "This is a nice surprise," he walks toward you. "But unfortunately, I don't have much time to enjoy it," Jay continues with a warm hug.
"I know. That's why I bring lunch here, instead of asking you out. Maybe we can sit down somewhere quiet and have it together?" you hesitantly suggest.
Before Jay can answer, he hears Hailey coming out from the District. "Hey Halstead, let's go. We got a hit on our suspect!"
Jay gives you an apologetic look, "Sorry, I gotta go."
"Of course. I understand," you say even though your face doesn't betray the disappointment. "Here, take this. It's enough for two. You can share it with your partner," passing him the paper bag from your hand.
Jay accepts the bag and kisses you quickly. But you know each kiss now is counted. So you palm his cheek and give him a lingering kiss before dejectedly resting your forehead on his lips. Jay notices something feels wrong. He puts his hands on your face and looks at you in concern, "You okay?"
A horn is honking impatiently behind him. You clench your jaw, frustrated. "Go. Be safe, okay?" You tap his chest gently.
"I will," Jay answers instinctively. He then quickly goes to the car, where Hailey's already waiting.
◢◤
You have laid on the couch since you're back from The 21st District. The sun already sets, the room has darkened, but you're still not moving. Your thoughts are all over the place.
You jerk in surprise when you hear your phone vibrates angrily on the coffee table. You see Nick Kroes is calling. Nick is initially, and still is, Alex's manager. When you started to gain more recognition for your work at Alex's record label company, Pyramid, Nick then decided to take you under his management as well.
"Hey, Y/N. I heard the good news! It's been a long time coming, girl! Cannot wait to have you back here,"
"When do I have to leave?" you cut to the chase.
"How about next week?" Nick ponders.
"A week?" you stutter in disbelief.
"I know, I'm sorry I couldn't arrange it to be sooner," Nick misunderstands your upset.
"No, I mean... Can you give me a month?" you plead.
"You want to stay there for another month? I thought you'd be asking me to send you a plane tomorrow." Nick startles.
"Yeah. Just.. there's something I need to do. Please, Nick?", Your voice sounds desperately close to begging.
"Ah... I'm sorry, Y/N. We really need your help here. Two weeks is the maximum time I could give you," Nick ruefully tells you.
You close your eyes in resign. "Okay. I'll try to sort it out in two weeks."
"Thanks, Y/N. If you need anything else, just tell me, okay?" He says as he ends the call.
◢◤
It's already nearing midnight. Jay calls you even though he's not sure if you're still awake. The phone only rings twice before you pick up.
"Hey, love. You're not asleep yet?" Jay greets you.
"Nah, I can't sleep without knowing you're okay," you reply, which is a half-truth.
"I'm always okay. Well, most of the time." Jay chuckles. You smile but stay silent.
Taking a deep breath and ready to bite the bullet, you start to say, "Jay, I need to tell you.."
But you hear him speaks at the same time. "So, babe. I'm going to.. "
Both of you laugh nervously. "Okay, you start first," you decide.
"I need to go undercover soon. So I might be unreachable for quite some time," Jay informs you.
"Is it dangerous?" you faintly ask.
"A bit. But my people will keep an eye on me. I'll be fine." He tries to assure you.
"How long is it gonna take?" you feel more disheartened. Really, time is not your best friend right now.
"As long as needed. It might be a week or two. Hopefully not more", Jay tells you lightly.
You close your eyes, trying to contain your tears from falling. You only have two weeks before leaving Chicago. "That's long." your voice sounds shaky.
"Yeah. But it's my job, Y/N", Jay huffs.
"I know, I know. I understand," you say as calmly as you could while hiding your anguish at the same time.
But Jay doesn't feel console. "Do you? Because you sound uncertain about it. Did you just realized the consequences of dating me?"
"Hey, I don't wanna fight," you toughen your voice. "You're going to be away soon. I don't wanna us be mad at each other for a long time."
Jay stays silent, but you can hear his ragged breaths. "Please be careful, alright, Jay?" you continue.
"Yeah, I will," he promises. "Look, I gotta go to sleep. Tomorrow's gonna be a long day."
"Okay. Sleep tight. I love you," you murmur your goodbye. Jay hangs up the phone without saying anything else.
You slept restlessly through the night. The next morning, you wake up to two text messages from Jay.
I gave your number to Hailey. If anything happens to me, she'll call you. I'm sorry for snapping at you last night.
I'll try my best to come back to you soon. I love you
◢◤
Nearing your departure, you hang out at Molly's every night. Whenever your friends from Firehouse 51 are not on shift, you always have someone with you. But tonight, all of them are working. So you sit alone at the bar, with a glass of ice water in front of you.
"Mind if I sit here?" says someone on your left. You look to your side and find Will Halstead standing there.
"Dr. Halstead, Hi," you nod at him as he takes a seat.
"Just because the other Halstead isn't here doesn't mean you can keep calling me that, Y/N," Will jokes. You smile shyly.
"You just got off shift? How was your day?" you ask him. Will has heard from Jay about this before. How genuine and caring you are to your friend. Always asking simple, but thoughtful questions.
"It's great. Busy, but I'm glad I didn't lose anyone today. How was your day? How is the podcast going? I cannot wait for the next episode," Will says.
"You listened to my podcast?" you ask him, dumbfounded.
"Yeah, I did. Jay told me about it. It keeps me company on my way to work. I like the remix that you played in the last episode. Smokey Robinson's song? What's it called..." Will tries to recall.
"Tracks of My Tears?" you reply. You smile to yourself, remembering your first car ride with Jay.
"Ah yeah, did you make that remix?" Will asks.
"Oh, I wish I were. But no, that was a work of the great Avicii," you explain. "You really enjoy it?" you ask him, still with a hint of doubt.
"I do, yeah. We have a similar taste in music, I think. Unlike Jay, though. Bet the only reason he listens to it because he likes to hear your voice", Will mocks his brother. You burst out a laugh. "But I know he's proud of you and your work." Will continue after his laughter.
"Hmm, yeah. I'm proud of Jay and his work too. Even though, sometimes it sucks," you harshly tap your phone that sits peacefully on the bar table. It lits up after your touch. Will can see a picture of Jay making a ridiculous face on the screen.
"You heard anything from him yet?" you question him.
"Not from him, no. But I saw Burgess today at the hospital when she's interviewing a victim. Said Jay's fine. They think they could wrap the case in a few days." Will informs you.
"Good. That's good." you pause to sip on your water. "Hey Will, may I ask you a question about Jay?"
"Sure. Ask away." Will nods.
"Is Jay.." you falteringly begin. "When Jay's mad, is he a type who's holding grudges for a long time?"
"Well, depends on the person. If they are a criminal, absolutely. If they are someone he's close to, sure, sometimes he can be a stubborn asshole. But in the end, he always forgives them, especially if it's someone he loves," Will answers. "Why? You guys had a lover's quarrel?"
"Hmm, something like that," you vaguely answer.
"I say, absence makes the heart grow fonder. Jay must've been impatient to go back to you." Will tries to comfort you.
You are so close to telling Will the truth. That, instead of thinking of a past quarrel, you're actually preparing for the upcoming storm. But in the end, you change your mind. "Thanks, Will." you just give him an unconvincing smile.
Splendor and True
You know what it do 😩👌
“So,” Offender began. “Splendor, huh?”
True sighed. It had been a decent night, and now he wanted to grill her for the juicy stuff. It was supposed to just be movies, snacks and a sleep over at his. She didn’t know what she was expecting, honestly. The man was worse than middle school gossip, he wanted to know everything and he always had a way of finding out. It didn’t help that he could read her mind on occasion either.
“Okay, I get it. You don’t want to talk about it, but I think if anyone could help you, it would be me. Us being the same species and you not knowing much about our courting or the like.” He nudged her side gently, trying to coax her into admitting it.
She rolled her eyes, smiling up at him gently in amusement. Nudging him right back. “Don’t lie to me like that, you’re just nosey.”
He rolled his eyes, in his own way. So much like the way she did, but he didn’t have the organs to show for it. Always something interesting to notice with these men. “Okay, yeah. I want the hot, juicy details about my newest little pals not so little crush. Can you blame me? It’s not too often I get to be involved in a situation like this.”
Wearily watching him smile down at her, she felt rather targeted. “I... well. Fine. I do like him.”
He hardly got any time to have a victory moment at hearing he was right as she began spiraling on. “I like him very much but I can’t tell him because oh my god what if he doesn’t like me and he just tolerates my existence in his home until he can help me figure some stuff out and then he’ll send me on my way to do who knows what because he probably just plans to ship me off to my ancestor when we find him and its not that I’m not open to getting to know them when I find them, but I sure would like to stay with him and-“
She silenced when he placed his large hand on top of her head. “Hey. It’s not like that. I wouldn’t tell you to go after him unless I thought he liked you too. I mean, I like to play but that would be kind of cruel.”
She sighed, nodding as she plopped down onto the couch they were sitting on. She had to hand it to them, wherever these guys got their furniture from, it was always comfortable despite it being larger than what she was used to. Her human proportions making her feel like a child when sitting in any of their homes unless she traveled into proxy dwellings, more human sized accommodations always in those portions. “Yeah, okay... I just. Well, it’s like you said. I don’t understand the courting stuff. I’m afraid he doesn’t like me like that, I mean honestly, why would he want me? I may not be entirely human, but thats what I was raised as. I’m weird and I don’t conform to your norms and ideals. He has standing and a reputation, I offer him nothing that would better that.”
“That’s not what he cares about.” True looked over at him, watching as he shook his head and waved off her apparently ridiculous worries.
“Oh yeah?” She huffed, slightly miffed that he continued to brush off her worries without actually explaining why. “What gives you that idea?”
He appeared to think for a bit, over exaggerating by crossing his arms and humming in thought. She knew he was about to do something she would regret allowing, but he moved on before she could stop it. “Oh, you know, probably has something to do with the fact that he’s said things about you to me already.”
Her head shot up, looking at him incredulously. “He talks about me? Well, I mean I guess he would. I am living in his home.”
Tutting at her, he waggled his finger and smirked in her direction. “No, no. You don’t understand. He talks about you a lot. Oh, how did he word that one thing he said the other day? I think it went something like... ‘Oh! True is just so wonderful! Amazing! I don’t know how I got so lucky, finding her first.’”
She stared at him, frozen in astonishment at what he was doing. His voice had pitched upward, the gravel gone from his deep voice as he mocked the way Splendor’s tenor would sound. “Are you being serious right now?”
“Why ever would I kid about this!?” His hand flew to his chest, acting offended that she would accuse him of such behavior. “I am simply telling you of the time he said things such as ‘I just think she’s very cute, with her glasses and such pretty hair.’”
His voice pitched upward again, mocking Splendor again as his hands interlaced and he held them up to his face like the love sick saps in old cartoons, making her jump to Splendors defense. “Shut up, he doesn’t sound like that!”
He laughed, dismissing her rebuttal gently with a wave of his hand. “Oh yeah? Then what does he sound like, huh?”
“His voice is nice! It’s light and it almost always sounds so happy. Sometimes it makes me smile to hear it, even if it’s not me he’s talking to. And he calls me little nicknames sometimes, which is the only reason I gave him a nickname too, not that he knows that. He’s soft and careful and kind. He’s very patient with me, and it’s not just me either, he’s patient with his proxies too. And when he laughs, oh it’s wonderful, I work so hard to hear him laugh, to get him laughing because of me. And… well, his eyes are pretty. I know, they don’t have any color, but the way his eyes are is kind of like... if I look in them just right, then its like stars in a sky of darkness. I’ve only seen his hands maybe once or twice, and I think he probably hides them because of how scary he thinks they are, but I think they’re wonderful. Holdable. Kissable. They’re very pretty, and I can only assume the color tapers off, which must be wonderful to look at. I hope to one day get a chance to look at it myself. And I really like-“Her eyes widened as she slapped her hand over her mouth, whipping her gaze toward Offender who was looking down at her with a cocky grin.
“Got ya to talk, did I?” He chuckled at her. Patting her head as she processed her little splurge of simpery for Splendor. “You might as well keep going, little buddy. Better yet, write him a letter.”
She exhales heavily, crossing her arms and turning her head away from him. “Not that its any of your damn business, but I actually have. He will never, ever see them though. End of discussion. And now that I’ve divulged my feelings for Splendor at your demand, can we please watch the movie?”
The silence that followed was telling. He wasn’t done. No where close to it, in fact. She fought herself to keep her eyes locked to the screen, watching as a guy on screen jumped off of a cliff and into an ocean. She wasn’t sure where the movie was shot, but the waters were very pretty as they crashed against the rock face. Of course, the scene didn’t last very long, leaving her confused about the fate of the man. Though it seemed she wouldn’t find out what happened at all. No sooner than she had let her guard down had Fen appeared in front of the tv with some papers in his hands, making her jump at his sudden appearance, as she thought he hadn’t moved from his spot on the couch.
“Must you always pop in and out like that? By the way, you make a horrible window. We’re supposed to be watching a movie, remember?” She rolled her eyes before eyeing him closely. Taking a look at the papers in his hands, her eyes popped open wide in recognition. “No.”
His smile was answer enough, but he gave one anyway. “Oh, yes. They were quite easy to find actually.”
Shooting up off the couch, she tried to snatch the papers out of his hands before he could hold them any higher, but it was a losing battle as always with most enderbeings. Hopelessly tall while she was hopelessly short.
“Come on, please? You don’t need to read those, I promise they’re no good. Just the rambling of me at three am every day.” She poked and prodded at him desperately as she begged him to give her the papers back. She didn’t know how he had found them so easily, or even how he teleported to her room without alerting anyone to his presence, but she knew those were the letters to Splendor.
He remained silent as he seemed to skim over three of the letters. He took his sweet time, nudging her away with his leg if she managed to distract him too much, but he never looked away from the papers. She was thankful he wasn’t doing a live reading of it while mocking her voice, but this was still embarrassing regardless.
Finishing up the last letter, he merely folded it back into thirds and slotted it back into its envelope and handing her the whole stack with a large grin on his face. “Now that is what I’m talking about. You should just hand those to him, and while I admit staying still would be the most courageous and correct thing to do, you could always just toss them at him and run. Gets the confession out of the way.”
Indignant and fuming, she hugged the letters to her chest and glared up at Fen. “But I don’t know how he’ll take it. I mean… are the letters really okay? Could I really just give him these and expect it to be okay? What if-“
She gets cut off as he groans, dragging a hand down his face in obvious exasperation. “Honestly, you two are just insufferable. I can’t stand this for much longer. Look okay, if you don’t confess then I’ll act as your little birdy and let a certain someone know that a special someone loves them very much.”
The idea was terrifying, and as serious as he looked, she wanted to think he was joking. “He has no reason to like me. He’s so much older than me, not to mention more capable of things as well. I’m…. very human. I’m weak compared to all of you, and I mean… reading intent means nothing if I cant do anything about what they intend to do. I can’t just walk up to him and think a confession will go over well. I have no reason to think he could like me.”
She jolts when he flicks her forehead. Its nowhere near as hard as it could have been, but she yelps and covers the spot with her hand. She startles when he kneels down to her height suddenly and grabs her shoulder. “I don’t know how many times I’m gonna have to fucking say this True, but he doesn’t care about that shit. Never has. All of this,” he shakes the letters in his free hand. “You don’t need to say any of this. I know you think words are scary, so let me help you, okay?”
She took a moment to glance at the letters that would never be delivered. The pretty paper she had written them on bright and colorful and unavoidable. She should have just written them on white paper, then he likely wouldn’t have found them as quickly, if at all. “As long as you’re telling the truth, then I guess I’ll listen.”
He muttered what sounded like praises to the ceiling above him as he stood and led her back to the couch. “Good, now all you have to do is a few simple things, and I promise you’ll make him the happiest man alive.”
————————————
It was now a week later, and she found herself sitting on Splendor’s couch as he started up a movie. Movie nights happened once or twice a month, Splendor’s candy business getting rather time consuming lately, with paperwork and other things she really didn’t understand.
She hadn’t been taught much about his business, but she knew he was very successful and she really liked his products. He had gifted her test products before and had let her sample things before they went out. After having dragged her birthday out of her, he had even gifted her a basket of stuff that she had yet to get through even though it had been quite a while since her birthday.
“You haven’t seen this one before I think. It’s a bit old, in terms of what I’m sure you’re used to watching, but it’s in color.” He laughed as he sat next to her. Getting comfortable in the blankets that were piled around the two of them.
“I’m sure it’ll be fine.” She watched him nuzzle into the blankets before he handed her the bucket of popcorn to hold. She stuttered over herself as she remembered what she needed to do now that they were here. “Besides… I’m with you, right? Can’t be too bad if you picked it out.”
He took her statement at face value it seemed, and softly hummed before patting her head and hitting play on the remote. For a moment she thought maybe Fen really was wrong and Splendor didn’t like her that way. But just as she was about to zone out while staring at the screen to remove herself into her thoughts, she felt something wrap around her under the blankets.
She stayed still as it did, knowing it was one of his tendrils. She took a minute to enjoy it, waiting for the movie to become a little interesting before leaning against his side. She fought to stay casual when she felt eyes on her, not wanting to appear tense. Next would come the hardest part, but she supposed it was only difficult because she understood the meaning behind such a gesture now.
We she felt him relax again, and she was sure he was watching the movie instead of her, she moved one of her hands through the blankets in search of his tendril. Finding it had somehow wrapped around her under all the blankets and had managed to stay outside of her shirt. Regardless of his mastery with the appendage, she set her mind back on track as she lightly grazed her fingertips over it while in search of the tip.
She found the bell with little trouble and grabbed just under it before bringing it up through the blankets and toward her face. She didn’t dare look up at him, she already knew he was watching her. Fighting through the blush rising on her face and the butterflies tearing through her body that made her jittery and nervous, she brought the bell up for a little smooch.
The near moment her lips disconnected from the bell, she felt herself get pushed gently against the back of the couch and he suddenly had a soft grip on her chin, tilting her head back to make her look up at him. His cheeks were more flushed than normal, his eyes locked on hers as he stared her down while seemingly taking a moment to think on what to say. “Do you mean it?”
Did she mean it? She doesn’t understand how she couldn’t. It would be hard for that to be a mistake, and honestly if it hadn’t of been for Fen’s help then she wouldn’t have even known to do it. “Yes.”
She yelped suddenly when she found herself pulled onto his lap. Blankets tangled around her body acting as annoyances when she discovered she was practically bound by them. Regardless, she couldn’t get away if she wanted to. The tendril wrapped around her ensured that.
“If you’re sure you know what it means.” His face hovered closer to hers, his eyes searching her face for any doubts.
“Yes. I… liked you for a while now. I accept.” Her hands found a comfortable resting spot as her arms rested over his shoulders, only bringing them closer.
Silence ruled for a moment before she felt a hand tangle in her hair. The distance closed rather quickly, despite the softness on the kiss. It was a gentle, loving and warm kiss. Conveying finally being able to do what he had been longing to do for a while.
She was struck stupid when they finally parted, gently panting to catch her breath as her glassy eyes met his again. Letting out a muffled noise of surprise, she barely had time to catch her breath at all before he went in for another kiss. This one a little more desperate than the last. His tongue teasing along her lips until she allowed him to deepen it in her shock.
Shaking and desperate for oxygen, her brain went fuzzy and she moaned at the current assault her emotions had on her body. Light, fuzzy and warm. The feel of his lips on hers and his tongue exploring her mouth was something she hadn’t dared to think about before, but it was mind consuming.
She struggled not to embarrass herself when they separated by leaning back in for more. Finding him a little starstruck while looking down at her. Softly panting while she was near gasping for air. “Well then… uh… this makes us significant others. Yes. Right.”
He chuckled at her, moving his hand to instead begin combing through her hair, watching fondly as it made her melt against him and attempt to lean into his touch. “It makes us mates, schatz. Of course, were not mated, but that can come later. Much later, if you’d prefer. However it works out.”
She hummed, relaxing against his chest as he played with her hair. The movie still playing the background of little interest to either of them anymore. His next words made her eyes open as she tensed though. “Now, who told you about the tendril thing?”
Surprise Egg: 6/13: Adoption
They could’ve perhaps gone straight to Gramble and asked him to adopt the egg but while they were both reasonably sure he’d say ‘yes’ putting that kind of pressure on him wouldn’t have been fair. And it potentially would’ve gotten the town rumor mill going and even in a small town, rumors could get out of control very quickly. They could’ve also gone to each person individually and asked everyone but that was a lot of work and again letting that kind of news possibly spread around unsupervised wouldn’t be wise. So the best and easiest course of action was to gather everyone in town and tell them all at once, asking for volunteers while doing so.
Filbo, amazing and wonderful as always, volunteered to be the one to deliver the news without Buddy even having to ask him to. Which was doubly good because it freed them up to keep watch how everyone reacted and hopefully observe how judgmental they were all likely to be. Buddy had encountered enough hostility from others over expressing their desire to never have kids when it was merely hypothetical, such judgment was only bound to be much worse when there was an actual egg in the equation. They weren’t going to tolerate it if it arose, especially since Filbo had already expressed feeling guilty over the decision.
“As you guys already know, Buddy and I have an egg,” Filbo said as soon as everyone had gathered in the center of town. Given how unsure he’d been just a little while ago, his voice was impressively almost steady, for him anyway. “We had a talk about it after they woke up and we have decided that being parent isn’t a good fit for us and that we should uh… put the egg up for adoption. Which is where you guys come in since you’re the only ones here who could possibly adopt it. So uh… any volunteers?”
The look on most everyone’s face was surprise. As expected, the expressed desire to not be a parent was a rare thing, even more so when an egg had already been born. No one looked mad or offended right off the bat though, seemingly so anyway because Cromdo always looked kind of angry.
Gramble unsurprisingly was the first to step forward. He didn’t get a chance to speak though as Cromdo stepped forward too, cutting him off. “What kind of grump actually wants to give their child up and never see them again? That just don’t make sense.”
“Geez Cromdo,” Beffica cut in, “you seem awfully into this egg. First you’re giving Filbo advice on how to take care of it and now you’re offended he doesn’t want to. And you got that dad tie in your hut, I was sure it was for a scheme but now I’m starting to think it might not be.”
He turned to growl at her. “What are you doing snooping around my cabin? That tie and why I have it ain’t none of yours or anyone else’s business. But…” he snapped back around to face Buddy and Filbo again, “if you two assholes really don’t got what it takes to care for that egg, I’ll do it.”
“No!” Gramble finally spoke up. “I want it. I’ve always wanted an egg but uh… Just let me adopt it, okay?”
“Well if Gramble wants it then I do too,” Wiggle came in with her almost sing-songy tone. “Maybe taking care of a little one will be the exact thing my muse needs to get kicked into gear.”
“You two know I’d take better care of it then Cromdo,” Gramble said. “Especially with Wiggle’s help.”
To nobody’s surprise Cromdo had an objection to that. “Nuh-uh, you’re half-starved and Wiggle just said she wants to use the grumpling solely for inspiration so how could you two possibly do a good job raising a kid?”
“Uh… for what it’s worth,” Triffany cut in before Gramble or Wiggle could do more than gasp in offense, “me and Wamby just had a quick talk and we got experience with raising youngins, two of them in fact and they turned out great. We was thinking about having another but uh… waited a bit too long it seems. So we’d like to be considered for adopting the egg too please.”
“Heck, I volunteer also,” Beffica said, raising a paw.
“You? Really?” Cromdo said, almost as incredulous as Buddy felt.
“Yeah. It’s none of your business why, but I think having a little grumpling might be nice.” Ah, yeah, probably something to do with her expressed belief that she was always gonna end up alone if Buddy had to guess. “Especially since with so many others here who want it too, I’d probably have plenty of help taking care of them and stuff, right?”
“That’s a great idea Beff!” Filbo cut in, pointing at her. “Since all you guys want it, you can maybe all adopt it? And like take turns with it or something. It wouldn’t even be that hard to do with how everyone’s practically neighbours here. And that way Buddy and I don’t have to choose. And, there’s that ‘it takes a village to raise a child,’ saying. It’s probably true, right? So… if everyone’s cool with that…” he trialed off, opening his arms in a gesture for one of the potential adoptees to speak again.
“Well,” Wambus spoke up, “it’s your egg. If that’s how you and Buddy want us to do it then we could probably give it a go. It’d let me and Triffy continue focusing on our own stuff a lot too.”
Filbo turned to Buddy, the question on his face. Trying not to notice how everyone else was staring at them now too, they shrugged. “It can’t hurt, can it?”
Filbo turned back to face everyone else. “I guess that’s how we’re going to do it. You guys can figure out the specifics amongst yourselves, right?”
“Yep! And dibs on pouching the egg first.” Before she’d even finished speaking, Beffica was making her way over to Buddy. “Hey Bestie, I’ll take good care of them, I promise. I’ll make sure the others do too.”
“Thanks,” Buddy said as they handed the egg over with an internal sigh of relief. That had been surprisingly easy and quick to get taken care of and other than Cromdo no one had gotten openly angry at them. The whole thing was almost too good to be true.
As soon as it was safely in Beffica’s paws and before any of the others could get here, they turned and left. Fast walking away because they were done with all that and had important stuff to get back to.
“Wow, that went really well,” Filbo said as he fell into step with them.
“Yeah. No regrets, right?” Buddy certainly felt none.
“Uh… no actually. I still feel kind of bad about doing it or uh… wanting to do it I guess but… it’s a huge relief too.”
“Good.”
A few seconds later, they reached Filbo’s hut. Inside, they pulled their backpack up off the floor and opened it up to pull out Sprout. He seemed rather miffed about having been left in the dark for so long if his frantic skittering around against the walls of his buggy ball and agitated tone in his voice was anything to go by. They pushed him back into their pouch where he belonged, quieting him down immediately. Hmm… they were more attached to a strawberry with googly eyes than to their own egg. That was certainly a bit strange but it didn’t really matter, everyone was happier this way.
Next, they pulled out their camera and hung it around their neck. Then, after zipping the pack closed, they checked to make sure all their hunting equipment was firmly attached to it and that their notebook and recorder were safely in the side pocket before heaving it up onto their shoulders. They then turned to towards the exit where Filbo was standing watching them with a concerned expression on his face. Uh oh.
“You’re uh… not planning on heading out, are you?” he asked even though the way he was blocking the door made it pretty clear he already knew the answer and didn’t like it.
Buddy had to hold back a sigh at yet another delay. “I need to find the Snaxsquatch again and see if I can’t get it to communicate with me more.” And thank it for helping them out. “And I also need to hunt for food for everyone. And I still need to find Lizbert, remember? She’s kinda important for my story and your best friend so you should want me to find her as soon as possible.”
Filbo shifted his stance a bit so that he was blocking the door a bit more. “I do but… you literally gave birth yesterday. You need to rest.”
“I rested plenty already.” That had been the longest they’d slept perhaps in their whole life, especially if one didn’t count the half-awake state they’d been in when stumbling out to raid Wambus’ garden as being properly awake. “It was like midday yesterday when I went into labor and it’s past midday now. That’s like a whole twenty-four hours wasted already.” Not to mention all the time they’d wasted over the past few months because providing for the formation of the egg inside them had drained so much of their already sparse resources. Now that it was outof them, they could devote themself even more to finding Lizbert and completing their story.
Filbo’s frown deepened, making Buddy feel bad because they just wanted to make him happy. “Please. Just… for the rest of today. You can get back to work tomorrow after breakfast but… just take it easy for a little while longer.”
Buddy took a breath to insist on going out now because it was important. The story and finding Lizbert for her sake most of all but the sooner they finished, the sooner they could go home and eat real food again too. If they pushed hard enough, they could probably get Filbo to fold and let them go or perhaps he might firmly stand his ground for once, that’d be nice to see. But… they were still really tired and sore, their pelvis most of all but definitely they just hurt in general too. And they didn’t want to test Filbo’s newfound limits, not yet anyway, not right after the emotional conversation they’d just had about the egg and possibly breaking up over it. So… with a sigh they took their pack off and let it drop to the floor with a thump.
“Does this mean you’re not going out?” Filbo asked with hope and maybe a bit of pride in his voice.
“Yeah.” They put their precious camera away again, not bothering to hide the fact that they were unhappy about this. They reached down to pull Sprout out of their pouch too but… no, he got to stay just because. So instead they turned to look at Filbo again. “As soon as I’m up tomorrow morning, I’m heading out.”
“After breakfast.”
“No. I’ll eat breakfast while on the go.” It would give them an excuse to walk slow.
Filbo looked like he was going to protest but ultimately sighed and finally stepped away the door. “Okay, I guess that’s probably the best I can hope for, huh?”
“Yep.”
~
I'm allowed to dip into the same well of inspiration twice; half the town adopting the egg is inspired by the Adopted Egg AU. Conversations about that started up around the time I was getting close to writing this chapter and I liked it so half the town adopts it because that kind of thing is cute. Though, unlike the Adopted Egg AU, it doesn't eventually extend into everyone having a turn with the egg, only the group who spoke up have adopted it here.
Also, this was were the fic was supposed to end but it didn't feel complete yet especially with Buddy's instance on being like 'now that that's taken care of it's time for me to go run around and do stuff again' even though they'd just finished going through a surprise labor like 24 hours ago. So I continued writing until the physical fallout of the pregnancy and birth while they're so malnourished and stuff reach a conclusion as well.
You turn around to see your explosive classmate causing another ruckus in the classroom. The corner of your lips quirk up the tiniest bit, turning into a small amused smile. You turn around instantaneously to avoid getting yelled at by both your crush and your teacher who had just walked in.
Yes, yes, you had a small crush on the charming, Bakugo. It was kind of ironic really, you were known to blend in the background and stay out of everyone’s business. It seemed isolated and distant to others, but it was simply your way of saying you’d rather be alone.
You had been hiding this secret for so long, only telling a couple of your friends that you trusted with your life. It had been a shock to them, mostly because you were a quiet person that kept to themselves.
Bakugo on the other hand, was a very attention-drawing boy. Always yelling at those “damn extras”, always calling people names or telling them to “get out of his way”. Ah yes, a suitable partner.
Bakugo’s booming voice interrupted your inner monologue thoughts.
“Shut the fuck up dunce face!” He shouts. You bite your lip from laughing.
“Y/n, babes, you should just tell him about that lil crush of yours, I swear he likes you back,” Mina says rolling her eyes. You weakly throw a pillow at her.
“Stop saying that,” you grumble and roll over on her bed.
“She’s right you know,” Kaminari says before going on his phone.
“Not you too, you guys stop it,” you say. Although you sound harsher than you intended to be.
“Oh come on, why don’t you believe us?” Kaminari whines. Rolling your eyes you answer him.
“Because, Bakugo is 1. Focused on being the number 1 hero and 2. Wouldn’t go for a background character,” gesturing to yourself.
Mina scoffs, “Bakugo doesn’t care if you’re not popular, you’re strong and determined he would love to be your boyfriend,” she states.
“Plus, who knows, maybe little Bakuboy would make time for you,” she continued with a devilry glint in her eyes.
You raise a brow but shrug it off.
The next day of school had started off unusual. The BakuSquad had been acting quite eccentric from the start but even more so. Everyone except Bakugo.
Mina and Kirishima, kept giving you impishness looks as if they were to say “we’re hiding something and you don’t get to know,” without actually speaking those words.
Sero and Kaminari would nudge you every time you past by Bakugo. Giving you the same looks as Kirishima and Mina. You attempted to inquire them about it but as soon as you tried to ask they were gone in the blink of an eye.
Sooner or later, you started to get a bit irked about the whole thing. So you cornered the whole BakuSquad and interrogated all of them.
“Alright, why the fuck have all of you been giving be weird looks or elbowing be whenever Bakugo is in the vicinity of the area?” You demand crossing your arms and tapping your foot.
“Vicini-wha...?” Kaminari scratches his head.
“She means whenever Bakugo’s around,” Kirishima whispers at him. Kaminari looks as though he figured out what the meaning of life is.
“Anyways, what the hell?” You order. They look diffident and avoid eye contact with you.
“You guys!” You screech miffed at how they weren’t answering.
“What did you do?” Your voice sounding whiny.
“Well, we kinda...sorta maybe—” Kirishima was then interrupted by the class dorm getting kicked open.
“You,” a voice seethed. You turn to see Bakugo holding what looks like a box of chocolates and a letter with a heart stamped on the front.
“Huh?” You raise a brow in confusion. Bakugo throws you the letter along with the chocolates.
Dear Bakugo,
I’ve been meaning to tell you this for the longest time I just didn’t have the courage. I decided to make this letter short and sweet, nothing too over the top. I hope you enjoy the chocolates. I also hope you enjoy our date tomorrow at 6:30pm. If you didn’t get it by now, I’m in love with you.
Love, Y/n L/n
You were mortified. You were angry. You were humiliated. You just wanted to curl up into a ball and hide forever.
“What the fuck is that? You think you can just ask me on a date and give me those shitty chocolates you damn extra?!” Bakugo roared.
Ouch, now that hurts. Sure, you didn’t write the letter and maybe you thought that Bakugo was going to reject you anyways even if you asked him out for real. But there was still a tiny bit of hope in there, you hoped that he would like you back.
Your expression quickly turns into a disappointed one and you look at him.
“Look, I didn’t write that letter, or give you those chocolates, none of this was me,” you pause and take breath preparing yourself to his reaction.
“But, I do like you, and I do want to go on a date, but judging from your reaction right now, I guess that won’t be happening anytime soon,” you say your voice slightly cracking at the end.
You run your hands to through your hair and sprint to the elevator ignoring the calls from your friends.
“You idiot! What the fuck?” You hear Mina’s voice.
After bawling your eyes out and going through 2 damn tissue boxes, you decide that’s enough crying and sneak out of your dorm. It was fairly quiet so you assumed it was a safe time to wash up and get ready for bed.
You almost made it to the bathroom when you hear his voice.
“Hey L/n, get your ass over here,” Bakugo glowered. You feel your stomach drop and that nervous feeling comes back to you. You don’t say anything only giving him your attention and a raised eyebrow as indication for him to talk.
“Listen about earlier,” he muttered, “I...like you too,” he murmured so quietly you had to listen and really pay attention to what he said.
After processing his words, you feel your heart swell and your lips quirk into a smile.
“Really? This isn’t you putting me is it?” You ask hesitantly.
“What? ‘Course not dumbass, I don’t pity people,” he barks out, although the blush on his cheeks balances his rough exterior out.
“Oh, so does that make you my boyfriend?” You ask, suddenly feeling shy. Bakugo rolls his eyes.
“C’mere idiot,” he says opening his arms to you. You smile and leap into the hug.
Bonus:
“These chocolates aren’t actually that bad,” you hum in delight as you popped another one in your mouth.
“Mina and Sero picked good ones,” you chuckled. Bakugo grunted and dug his head deeper in the crook of your neck.
You get the hint and place one in his mouth. He gave a noise of approval and made a mental note to pay Sero and Mina back.
Hi is it ok if to ask a scenario on how y/n tamed the super energetic captain terushima? Like that would be super cute don't you think? Btw love your stories💖💖💖💖 soooo cute
figure 8s — terushima yuuji
2.5k words | genre/s: fluff | warning/s: mentions of blood, terushima’s kinda ooc?? | pairing: terushima x gn!reader
↪︎ in which your cold demeanor tamed johzenji’s infamous volleyball captain
a/n: this took so long to write! i’m getting over another bad case of writers block and i’m not sure if this was something you were looking for, def not my best work. i’m really sorry it took a while to get it posted, so enjoy!
Tumblr media
you believed it was the way you had never thought of becoming friends with someone as juvenile as terushima yuuji that was the cause of your daily migraines. to his constant thunderous childlike behavior or how he would flirt with literally anyone if he was bored enough. terushima liked to think you and him were close—best friends even, but with the amount of times he had hit every nerve by flirting with you and teasing, you thought the complete opposite.
the two of you had gotten into a little argument again earlier this morning.
it was callow and stupidly unnecessary, anyone who knew of your usually quiet and aloof personality knew you wouldn’t even spare energy getting into one with terushima. you didn’t even want to think about it as granted, it was about his usual antics of flirting with a random first year the moment you two walked onto johzenji high. it was so unlike you to care so much about him flirting with someone other than yourself. perhaps it was the way a foreign feeling of raving moths that ravaged your gut when you watched him ask for that girl’s number like it was nothing.
it’s not like he’s gonna call you anyway, you thought selfishly to yourself as the first year walked away.
and as icy cold as you were, you were always the type to still give a little too much effort and care into things that most wouldn’t (not to you anyway). and surely, you shouldn’t be worrying about not apologizing to a boy who started your verbal quarrel in the first place when you opted to giving the cold shoulder afterwards. you had nothing to apologize for anyway and yet there you were—resting on a far from comfortable chair in your classroom during lunch alone as you stare outside.
you couldn’t think. well... you could, but all your could think about was remembering the ghosting sensation of having butterflies in your stomach early this morning. you couldn’t help but internally gag as your mind suddenly flickered towards the realization, jealousy?
no, it couldn’t be. how could you be jealous over terushima giving attention to someone else when you’ve been rejecting his advances the moment you two met in your first year?
your glare had left the cerulean skies of miyagi as it eventually fell back on a blank sheet of paper within your progressively numbed hand. it was cramped into the same position for eons as you gripped your pen within your hand. held tightly until your knuckles bled white and all your veins ached for blood flow, until the muscles in your hand ached in agony, until you felt your trimmed fingernails finally cut deep within your skin that bled crimson. the baby hairs that were obviously too short to stay tamed, tapered and framed down your face as you looked down upon the bloody stain on your paper.
feelings like this were far too foreign to you, far too dangerous as you even had the audacity to write a letter of your compiled forms of withering memoirs, serendipities you yearned to achieve, and even the surprising downpour of jealousy you wished you never felt. you assumed that writing them all down would suffice in ridding yourself of such feelings.
you dropped the pen as you bore holes into your hand with your hard gaze. crescent-shaped lacerations had divided your skin as even the lingering sting of wounded flesh didn’t really affect you. you cursed under your breath as you grabbed a tissue out of your bag to quickly wipe up the blood.
the padding of shoes against the floor of the loud classroom had gotten louder as if someone was approaching you, hitching a breathe within you as you swiftly shoved the slightly bloody paper under your english textbook. johzenji’s setter, takeharu come into view as he threw you a calm smile while you quickly hid your hands under your desk.
“hey, sorry to bother you (y/l/n), but are you okay?” the setter gently asked, yet it was laced with hesitance and caution as they were talking to you.
you shrug you shoulders, muttering through your teeth. “could be better, but i’m fine.”
“oh okay, that’s good.” takeharu response in the same awkward tone. could you tell you two hadn’t talked much? “you and terushima have been ignoring each other,” he then adds.
“really?” you scoffed, “i haven’t noticed.”
a soft chuckle left takeharu’s lips as he scratched the back of his head, “well, um, he’s been kinda annoying us lately. he’s been asking about you all day, but refuses to talk to you.”
your gaze flickers towards the setter, curiosity kindling within you. “why is he so stubborn about it?” you miffed.
“you tell me, (y/l/n).” there was something persuasive about his articulation, that even if takeharu was implying some sly arrangement, you couldn’t help but play along with it. “you two have petty arguments all the time that end up not being that serious, what happened this time?”
“the usual misunderstanding,” was all you could reveal, anything else and you would’ve landed yourself a one-way ticket towards absolute embarrassment.
takeharu scoffs, “of course it is. now, listen, terushima is acting weirdly and obviously that’s going to affect our volleyball practice, like i seriously don’t want extra drills just cause you keep ignoring him.” his thoughts lingered for a second, “i don’t know what you two argued about, but i think you two should talk and clarify some things and just become friends again.”
“we were barely friends to begin with, takeharu.” you asserted, your gaze finally turning to meet his in your usual deadpan expression.
“really?” he inquired, testing the waters he knew was perilous to trek on. “that’s not what i remembered when i saw you two skipping class that one day, or how you two are always with each other during lunches—”
a slight warm sensation reached your cheeks as you shook your head, “you’re looking to far into it. terushima’s the one who comes up to me and i just talk to him because i’m bored and have nothing else to do.”
“right, of course.”
a smirk melted upon takeharu’s visage and to what you would usually want to wipe that smug look off his face, you only turned away to hide the blush rising on your expression. “and that’s all it was,” you concluded. “besides, i’m pretty sure he has a massive crush on karasuno’s volleyball manager.”
“oh yeah, i think everybody knows that.” the setter laughs as if it were to lighten up the mood a bit more, but the look on your face when he said that made him recoil a bit. “b-but since he finally found someone he actually goes to school with and is actually his age, maybe—”
“maybe nothing,” you immediately cut him off, “are you forgetting how much of a fuckboy he is?”
“personally, i think he’s more of a playboy since he just flirts and doesn’t sleep around, but I get what you’re saying.” takeharu mutters matter-of-factly before continuing, “and obviously i’m not forgetting that fact, but based on how differently he acted today now that you were giving him the silent treatment, I think you actually have a shot.”
you brows furrow, “a shot at what?”
“taming the infamously untameable volleyball captain, terushima yuuji.”
you audibly scoff, feigning yourself from bursting out laughing at the idea.
“think about it.” the setter starts again as you two look at each other attentively, “almost everyone here knows that you and terushima have a thing going, whether or not you two actually like each other. not that i’m saying you should live up to the peer pressure, but you two literally look like the epitome of opposites attract in a shoujo manga. what do you think would happen?”
“something unfortunate, that’s for sure.”
takeharu could only roll his eyes again, amusement lighting up his features as he shook his head at the notion. “i still think you should talk to him. lunch isn’t really over yet, either.”
you audibly groan as the setter suddenly forces you to get up out of your chair, “do i have to?”
“yes!” he exclaimed, “please, he’s being so annoying.”
Tumblr media
the school’s crowded hallways surrounded you. you typically liked having your personal space, so having to be casually bumping shoulders with others as you walked through the hallway was literally your worst nightmare. perhaps it was the simmering and leftover fervor from your argument that your jungle-mind was too clouded with the thought of having even an inch of feelings for the volleyball captain. despite knowing where terushima’s classroom was, you weren’t even trying to find him anymore, instead, you wandered the labyrinthine corridors in self-indulgence until you managed to stumble upon the restrooms. they were right near terushima’s classroom.
you relieved yourself before cleansing your hands from the wet crimson that dried into a burnished brown. you didn’t have any bandages on you and you certainly weren’t in the mood to walk all the way to the nurses office, so you opted in wrapping your hand with two layers of toilet paper before trekking back out into the hallways.
a sigh escaped from your lips as you stepped into terushima’s classroom.
to your surprise, he was actually sitting at his desk for once and not walking around his classroom talking to others. rather, he did have others around him making conversation, but it wasn’t like terushima was active in their talkative endeavors in the first place, anyway.
“i’m here to make amends,” you announce, folding your arms over your chest as the students who surrounded the volleyball captain noticed your blinding presence and backed away slightly.
“did takeharu send you?” terushima questioned as he arched a brow at you.
“yeah,” you immediately answer only to be responded by the tilting confusion of terushima’s head in disbelief. “...but it was on my own accord as well.”
a chuckle emits from his lips as he nods, “okay then, you can continue.”
the hint of playfulness in terushima’s voice made it difficult for you to speak of your apology seriously. with the sense of lightness within the air, suddenly bringing up their past argument would surely eliminate the casual aura. “i...” you almost hesitates and you didn’t know why. fuck it, you thought. “i wanted to apologize for overreacting this morning. i honestly don’t even know why i got so affected by you flirting with others when i shouldn’t even care.”
the words spilled out of your mouth faster than anticipated and you immediately felt embarrassed. you weren’t used to apologizing despite certain faults in your past, you would never get used to it. you would certainly never get used to the hard gaze terushima’s expression fell into the moment you offered some form of remorse. and to what you assumed would be another form of reciprocated antagonizing of your character, a simple, yet small grin tugged at terushima’s lips as he looked at you. for a moment, you felt your heart stop.
how charming.
“it’s alright,” he replied positively, taking you aback. “it’s quite funny, though—how you acted. i was genuinely surprised, (y/n).”
you raised a brow at the boy before you, “really?”
“well, my feelings have always been a product of being played by you.” terushima slyly suggested a fact that you weren’t even aware of. he shifted his weight upon his chair as you remained speechless, “i always thought my feelings were obvious for you, (y/n).”
your eyebrows furrow into confusion as you noticed how everyone suddenly gave you and the volleyball captain space. “they were jokes, weren’t they?”
“and how would you know they were jokes?” he tested.
“you flirt with everyone.”
“only to get you jealous enough to like me back,” he fired back as you were found speechless once more.
your gaze that fell to the floor had flicked upon terushima, sighing as you shifted awkwardly from your stance in front of him, “i don’t get it.” you said when you leaned your weight against a desk behind you. “why me?”
terushima shrugs, “you were a challenge—a confusing one that is,” he confesses, “usually, people would either be too easy to win over or reject me straight up. meanwhile, you neither gotten easily won over or had rejected me, so i continued to be by your side until you noticed i was serious about my feelings for you.”
“you know i hate it when people aren’t being straight up with me, yuuji.”
yuuji, the way your voice said his name was music to terushima’s ears as it kept repeating it in his head. he was so obviously wrapped around your finger, you didn’t even notice. you rarely called him this, but when you do, you were being serious. “i know, i just figured at some point you could’ve just completely told me to fuck off if you really wanted to... but you didn’t.”
you really didn’t. that was your complete downfall and realization that you possibly had feelings for johzenji’s volleyball captain. it filled you up with so much ichor, you assumed that maybe your feelings of annoyance for him was simply a facade. perhaps you hated the fact that you actually enjoyed terushima’s boisterous presence that you even felt you heart steadily quicken the more and more he poured his feelings out to you. god, you were a mess on the inside, but on your exterior, you visage was still as deadpanned as before.
“you’re right,” you finally spoke from a brief period of silence. “perhaps you’re not as annoying as i thought you were.”
“so you’re not mad at me?” he asks innocently.
you shake you head, “why would i? i was the one who got jealous in the first place.”
terushima could feel the corners of his lips tug into a smirk, “is this your way of confessing to me, (y/n)?”
“yes and that’s all you’re getting from me, yuuji.” at that point, you couldn’t help but put a small smile on your face as he offered his hand for you. graciously taking his calloused hands into you soft ones because you thought you two were doing your signature hand shake, terushima had actually pulled you into an embrace.
you two held each other for a good second, almost in awe as this was both out of your characters to be in each other’s arms, but it honestly felt nice. you and terushima had almost forgotten the tense air that was between you two the entire school day until it was interrupted by the loud ringing of the school bell.
Chapter 3
There’s a definite pause after her question, during which Adrien leans in, as if he expects her to elaborate. His expression is indecipherable, although it seems like there’s something akin to glee in his eyes.
“I’m so sorry, Adrien, I really would love to share this information with you.” She bites her lower lip and clutches the skirt of her dress. “But… you’re already doing so much for me, I don’t want to put you in any more danger than you might already be in, now that you’re married to me. It wouldn’t be fair to you.”
Her words seem to jolt him. His hand flies to hers and stops it from wrinkling her dress.
“Oh. Right, of course. It’s okay, I understand.” He smiles gently and gets up, brushing invisible dust from his trousers. “I’ll find him, don’t worry.”
He holds out a hand and Marinette looks at it in confusion.
“I’d feel better if you waited for him inside, with people around. I’ll tell Chat Noir to knock on the window.”
“You’re right, that would make more sense.” She appreciates the fact that he’s so level-headed. He would be, not having been hit with what she knows. It’s good, she supposes. It compensates for her own muddled mind.
Adrien helps her up, and together they head back inside.
He insists on getting her a drink (apple juice - he says it would keep her hydrated, and provide some well-needed sugar, had she even eaten anything since breakfast?) before heading off, and Marinette is grateful she has something in her hands as she wraps her head around the new information.
Firstly, Gabriel Agreste had been carrying a butterfly envelope in his pocket. Which means that he is very probably involved in the letters she has been receiving.
Secondly, Nathalie was all too quick to dispose of it when it fell out. Meaning that she must have known what it contains, too. Which means they must both be behind the letters.
What have I married into? Marinette thinks, swirling her drink absentmindedly. Did we really send me straight into the lion’s den?
She’s about to wonder whether Adrien knows about it all when there’s a knock on the window behind her. She unties the heavy curtains from their decorative knobs to allow them to fall in front of the panes and conceal the balcony. The press is here, she wouldn’t want to spring a scandal on Adrien by having herself seen with another man barely an hour after the ceremony.
“You know, Bug, this is technically the second balcony meeting we’ve had today, and despite the whole staged aspect of this wedding, I’d think that would be a little much if we were in a play.” Her partner smirks as she closes the window behind her.
“Good thing we’re not, then.” Her reply comes out a little more bitter than she’d anticipated.
Chat Noir tilts his head inquisitively at her tone, but doesn’t comment on it. “I have to say, I didn’t think you’d need my assistance so soon. Is there trouble in Paradise, already?”
“Apparently the mystery butterfly letter person is here today.” She cuts to the chase as she starts pacing. “And I think they’re actually two people.”
Chat Noir tenses. “Why didn’t you tell Adrien? He wouldn’t have left you all alone while he came to get me.”
“First of all, I wasn’t ‘all alone’,” she air-quotes, “I was inside. Second of all, you know very well I can’t tell him exactly what’s going on.” She sighs. “Especially not now, when I suspect the people who are after me are his father and Nathalie.”
“What?” Chat Noir’s legs buckle under him and he props down on the bannister, all colour draining from his face.
So it really is bad luck to see your bride before the wedding, he thinks bitterly as he tries to steady his breathing.
“Chaton, are you alright?” Marinette rushes to his side and takes his hands in hers.
“Yeah, don’t worry.” He smiles up at her weakly. “I haven’t had much to eat, and, well… That’s quite the suspicion.”
“I know.” Much to his disappointment, she lets go of his hands to hide her face in hers. “Which is why I really can’t tell Adrien about it until I’ve gotten more information. It would crush him.”
“That’s very considerate of you.” There’s a certain dryness in his voice, which Marinette interprets as judgement for not sharing what she knows with her new husband.
In fact, Chat Noir is thinking that he actually wouldn’t be that surprised if his father was involved in something fishy; he’s miffed that it targeted Ladybug, but it did enable him to marry her in the end, so… Oh father, why must you always make things so complicated?
“We can’t just go dumping stuff like that on him! Hey, remember how I married you for security? Well turns out the threat was your dad and his assistant all along!” Marinette interrupts his thoughts, gesturing sarcastically.
“Yes, I see how that would be problematic.” He replies calmly. His mind races as he tries to grasp at any retrospective sign of his father’s activities, but it keeps drawing blanks. “Are you absolutely sure of what you’re claiming? Not that I don’t trust you or your instincts, just, you know…” He adds quickly when he sees her slightly offended frown.
“Well, he had the exact same envelope as the ones I’ve been receiving in his coat pocket.” She starts counting on her fingers.
“A white one?” Chat Noir probes, frowning as he recalls the envelope his father had given Marinette earlier. That can’t be it, he thinks, they’re too common. And why would he give the envelope directly to his target? Wouldn’t that defeat the purpose of blackmail?
“No, the purple butterflies one.” Marinette ploughs on, oblivious to Chat Noir’s apparent excellent knowledge of the scene that had unfolded earlier. She’d kept him in the dark when it came to the details of her correspondence, thinking they would be able to look at it later, but the plan, and then the wedding preparations, had taken over all of their time. “It could be a coincidence, but, really, he and Nathalie seemed quite spooked that I’d seen it.”
“Yeah, that was a little suspicious.” Chat Noir strokes his chin pensively. “So, we think my fa- I mean, my fur-iend!” he catches himself before he can say too much, and Marinette rolls her eyes at the pun, “Gabriel Agreste is the one behind the letters. What do we do next?”
“Investigate?” Marinette suggests after a slight pause, that has them both looking at the ground as they think. “I have the Miraculous box with me, we could get Max to open a portal to the Agreste Mansion for us and...”
“Today?” Chat interrupts her.
“I mean… The sooner we take care of it, the sooner I’ll be able to tell Adrien about it, and the better I’ll sleep.” She gets up and leans against the bannister, arms crossed over her chest.
“That makes sense.” Chat says, mirroring her. He would have preferred his wedding day to go differently, but he supposes there is something quite exciting about making progress on the blackmail case with a wedding going on in the background. “I can go and get the box for you. Is it still in your sewing box?” He whispers, taking out his baton and getting ready to vault up to Marinette’s temporary room.
Marinette grabs him by the tail to hold him back.
“What about Adrien, though?”
“What about him?” He is confused. Why would she mention him now?
“Well, wouldn’t we need him to give us directions at the Mansion? To make our search more efficient?”
Shoot, he thinks. She would have a point, if he and Adrien were two different people. “Er…” He trails off, trying to find a good excuse as to why Adrien should definitely not come with them to the Mansion. That would unnecessarily overcomplicate the situation. “Well, it’s best if he doesn’t know about the specifics of where we’re going. Unless you want to tell him all about your suspicions?” He raises his eyebrows.
“You’re right, I’d rather not.” Marinette ponders. “He can’t stay here all alone though. People would probably talk about my absence.”
“Which is where Rena Rouge can step in?” Chat Noir ventures. “She can set up an illusion of you.” And me, by the same occasion - I'll just need to get to her before you can, he adds silently.
“Oh yes, of course! You genius.” She stands on her tiptoes and plants a kiss on his cheek. He blushes in response. “Okay, what it doesn’t solve, though, is us not having directions in the Mansion.”
“Relax, Bugaboo.” She shoots him a stern look. “Hey, I agreed my Lady wasn’t appropriate anymore, but you never said anything about Bugaboo." He raises his hands defensively. "Anyway, fear not, I’m Adrien’s friend in real life, remember? I’ve actually spent quite a bit of time at his place, we snuck around a lot as kids.”
Marinette looks at him a little weirdly. Of all the years she’s known Adrien, he has never mentioned a childhood friend, apart from Chloé.
“Really?”
“Yep.” He says, popping the p sound.
She pouts as she thinks. “So Adrien stays here with Alya, and you play tour guide.”
“Exactly.”
“Okay.” She nods, but she continues before Chat can think the plan will be straightforward. “I’d still like to talk to Adrien and explain that we need to go somewhere, though. And I’d like for you to be there, too. We owe that to him, at least.”
Well, this is becoming tricky. Guess I’ll need Rena sooner than anticipated. “Fair enough. Let me go and get the Miraculous box first, and I’ll grab him on my way back. Meet you back here after the toasts?”
“Oh. The toasts.” Marinette facepalms. Just when things were becoming interesting, the wedding just had to get in the way. There was still a bit of time before the toasts, but clearly not enough to put the whole plan into motion. “Sounds good. See you in a bit, then.”
Chat Noir salutes her and jumps off the balcony. A thought crosses her mind as she watches him vault away and she opens the door to get back to the reception area. Maybe Chat Noir is Félix. He is here today, after all, and was involved in quite a lot of shenanigans with Adrien as children. She supposes he might bear some kind of resemblance to Chat Noir, if you squint. And if you remember that someone can be very different in public and in private. She almost gags at the thought, though, before remembering that she can’t judge the person behind the mask. She loves him no matter who he is.
Please don’t be Félix, though, she prays as she comes back inside the room.
