It's best not to try and wiggle your way out of the captain's "negotiations," lest you want her to sic her fiercely devoted guard dog on you. The crew has seen their fair share of bloodied, unfortunate souls barely coming out of her quarters in one piece... if alive at all.

Rope's End (Codywan) - Chapter 1/5
Total Word Count: 17.7k
Rating: E
Tags: Pirate AU, Canon-Typical Violence, Injury, Captivity, Enemies to Lovers, Angst with a Happy Ending, Explicit Sexual Content
Author’s Note: Thank you to everyone who has been so patient and encouraging in the very long time it took me to finish this, and a special thank you to Frost for the incredible art (check it out below), for the generous support, and for the reminder that characters have ages. The fic is finished, and new chapter will post every other day.
Summary: Of all the dangers that could befall a post-captain in the Coruscant Navy in the first months of a new commission, happening across a Geonosian man of war was bad; a run-in with pirates was worse; and any encounter with the pirate known as Kenobi was the most lethal by far.

Nana being a seal for mermay is so good and makes me think about selkies and how they need to guard their shapeshifting enabling skins, lest someone steal it and force them to be their betrothed. Makes sense with nana’s guarded nature before Jack came along…
Whoops. Rocky went overboard with a Red Beans focused ask again because of the pirate AU.

Chapter 2::
He grabs the hour glass and examines it. You look up at him, surprised by his sudden aggression. "Just as I thought," he says as the glow from the sand illuminates his eyes. You look at him confused before grabbing his hand, pulling it away from your necklace.
"What are you talking about?" You look at him worriedly.
"The treasure I've been looking for. The hourglass of the blue moon," he says before walking off, treading through the viscous water. You follow after him.
"You're going mad, what are you talking about?" You call out to him through the loud crash of the waves.
"It's none of your business," he says as he steps out of the water. He grabs his belt out of the sand and fastens it around his waist.
"Yes it is. It's my necklace," you frown and hold the hour glass in your hand. The glow from it peaking through the cracks between your fingers.
"No it isn't," he says as he puts on his boots.
"It's on my neck, how is it not mine?" You put your hands on your hips as you watch him put on his clothes again.
"You didn't make it, you don't know who made it, it wasn't given to you, you don't know where it's from," he explains, swinging on his jacket before walking away again.
"It was given to me, and I know where it's from," you storm up to him, your feet slipping in the sand.
"Who gave it to you?" he says as he walks through the thin grass. You follow him close behind.
"My mother," you say confidently. "It was made by my great grandmother's future husband," you explain and Seonghwa stops walking. He abruptly turns around.
"What was his name?" He cocks his head before approaching you again.
"George walterson," you say as you step back a bit.
"No. Georgie over here didn't make that necklace," he says as he continues walking, leading you through the woods.
"How do you know? Were you there?" You say as your nightgown sticks to your skin.
"No but my great grandfather was. He was the one that mined the crystal that makes up that sand," he states as he pulls back branches and walks through the woods.
"Alright, say your grandfather was there, why do you care?" You say as you approach the castle. You followed him around the castle to the front door.
"It's none of your business why I care," he smirks as he leans down to your height. He wipes some sand off your shoulder and pats your head.
"It is though!" You retort back.
"Listen princess, I can't deny you are adorable but you don't want to get into the shit I'm into," Seonghwa says with a nod of his head before standing up. "Now squeeze the water out of your dress, go get some rest, and maybe I'll see you around," he says as he puts his hands on his hips. His eyes falling down to your necklace. He then opened the front door for you and let you inside. He closed the door behind you and walked off.
You Stood in the doorway, processing what just happened. You went up to your room and flopped down on your bed, staring at the ceiling. The necklace had stopped glowing and you were left with the hollowness of the night.
[Time skip]
The next day after dinner you were painting in your room before hearing a gentle knock on the door. You turned to see your Fiance in the doorway. You forced a comforting smile to him and he closed the door behind himself and walked over to you. He put his arm on your back and stroked your back as you continued painting.
"It looks lovely," he says as he watches you work. You look up at him and he smiles at you. He then notices the balcony just behind the canvas, the floor has traces of sand. "There's sand in your room," Herrington says as he walks over to the sand.
"How peculiar," you say as you watch him, pretending to be concerned. "I wonder how that could've happened?" You say as you set down your palette. "Oh goodness me I forgot to close the doors last night, a bird or something must've come in," you sigh and put your hand to your head. "I'll clean it up," you smile but he grabs your wrist.
"That's what we have maid's for," he smiles and takes you over to the bed, sitting next to you on it. "You're in your nightgown fairly early aren't you?" He says with a suggestive smile.
"Well it is easier to take off," you chuckle and he smiles.
"So you do remember your promise," he says as he runs his fingers through your hair. "I've been thinking about you all day," he says before kissing you.
The rest of the night was full of fake pleasure and submission. When herrington was finished and you fulfilled your promise he left, telling you to get some rest.
You lay in bed thinking about everything that just happened, trying to process the moment. So far these past couple days were a mess. First you ran into Seonghwa, your fiance ordered guards to follow you everywhere you go, you started feeling unwell at dinner, seonghwa came to visit you and started talking nonsense about your necklace and now this? What more could happen?
Days go by with this dull and almost dream-like aura. Things were relatively calm around the kingdom but by the end of the week things started to get more lively. The weather was getting warmer and a local festival was coming up. The festival was a form of celebration of the day this kingdom was formed and named. Merchants were preparing decorations and musicians were preparing music to perform. Dancers were practicing and bakers were making all kinds of sweets to stock up. Lots of cargo ships were docking in as well, bringing in all kinds of goodies including your custom dress for the festival.
You were in your room trying on your dress for the first time, with the assistance of your maid. The dress was intricate with a soft blue base and yellow accents. Your mother was in the room with you as you changed into the dress.
"When is your wedding again?" She asked in a calm and sophisticated tone.
"July 13th," you said as you breathed in, the corset hugging your lungs. Your mother lets out a surprised scoff.
"He sure is taking his sweet old time," she says in an unimpressed voice. "You know, when your father proposed to me we got married that same week. I became queen in two months and I was already carrying my first kid at the age of 17," she tells you her sad excuse of a love story as you finally finish putting your dress on. You come around from the curtain and your mothers face lights up. She comes over to you and analyzes the dress, feeling the trim. "The yellow is a bit dark, our kingdom's color is pastel blue and yellow. This will have to do though," she said before turning on her heel, going to your sister's room.
You sigh and your maid encourages you to sit at your make-up desk. She did your hair and make-up, taking her sweet time to make sure every detail was perfect before the photoshoot. Your family gathered in the lounge room and a professional photographer took your photos multiple times. Each photo could be sold to the citizens of the kingdom, trusty merchants would be given them to sell and a maid or soldier would collect the funds.
The photoshoot took a long time, there were family photos and solo shoots. Your fiance watched from behind the camera man as you took your photos. After the photoshoot dinner was finished. Everyone took off their fancy dresses and changed into more casual ones before eating dinner.
The rest of the night went accordingly. You finished dinner, went to your room and painted. After painting for a while your body started getting stiff so you took a trip out to your balcony, watching the sun set. You look down over the side of the balcony to see where you and Seonghwa had talked last week. You hardly knew him and furthermore didn't understand him but something inside you wanted to see him again. You then feel hands wrap around your waist from behind. You jump and gasp lightly. "Herrington," you sigh before realizing these weren't your fiance's hands. This person's hands were slimmer yet still rough.
You turn your head quickly to see Seonghwa, a coy smirk on his lips as his body presses against yours. Your face flushes as you feel his body weight on yours. You turn your body, your back to the edge of the balcony rail. He puts his hands on the rail of the balcony, pinning you between his arms.
"Herrington?" He chuckles. "I suppose I haven't told you my name yet, but I have a feeling your little Fiancé has," he sighs as leans down to meet your gaze directly with his.
You're so flustered you can't even speak. His body was pressed against yours, his lips inches from yours, his eyes full of desire and mystery. "Cat got my little princesses tongue~?" He cooes against your ear. He lifts his hand to caress the side of your red cheek. You grab his wrist to stop him, looking him in the eyes.
"Stop. I know you're just using me for the hourglass," you look at him sternly and he smirks.
"Oh doll, I already have your necklace," he chuckles and you look down. Your necklace was gone. You gasp and feel around your neck to feel no jewelry.
"When did you!?" You gasp and he puts a finger over your lips.
"You get just oh so focused on your paintings it was easy," he smirks as he removes his finger. "I'm not just here for the necklace, I'm here for you," he says as he moves his hand back up to caress your face. "If I just wanted the necklace I would've killed you," he smiles as his other hand moves back to your waist.
"You have an odd way of sweet talking," you scoff and he chuckles lowly, your heart fluttering.
"But it's working, isn't it?" He smirks and your lips part in shock.

A pirate AU haunts me
Because I've been listening to Sail North and man the story ideas I get.
Thoughts of Dust being the Captain of The Shadow, constantly cursed to have the funky version of sight he has, with a deep shadow cast across his face by his hood. Even if it slipped off, he wears a bandana over his eyes, for fear of what might happen to anyone that lived long enough to make eye-contact with him.
Nightmare and his crew come across him one day while wandering through town on the run from the Marines (The Star Sanses) or somehow manage to stow away on his ship, all heavily injured and desperately needing escape.
...
Dust notices them immediately and, when out from land, lets his magic run through the rigging. The ropes haul them out from their hiding spaces, hanging them by their legs, and he slowly looks up at them.
...
Somehow they manage to find their ways out of the imminent doom and somehow manage to bond with Dust.
Nightmare, the infamous pirate, respecting and almost fearing The Captain of the Shadow?
Insane. But accurate.
Points
If anyone asks about this AU I may ascend.

┌───────────────────────── · · · · ♡
Hell broke loose in your kingdom, after your maid wanted to wake you up, finding the bed empty and cold. She immediately started to search your room but couldn't find anything, now in a panicking state, she rushed out and into the thrown hall, where the king and queen were talking to the young and handsome prince.
"The princess! She is gone!" Screaming as she entered the room, everyones attention now on her. "What do you mean she is gone?!" The king speaks up, an angry tone in his voice. "I wanted to wake her, but she is gone! Her bed is empty and cold! She must've left the night!" The maid explains to her king, who was by now furious about that information.
"Every guard search the whole entire kingdom! And do not stop until my daughter is found!" He was mad to say the least, he was embarrassed that her fiance had to hear about this, this could be the end.
"Me and my guards will also help find her your majesty, she is my fiance afterall." The prince exclaims, making his way out of the castle, followed by his guard. Leaving behind a furious king and a desperate queen, who was by now crying for her daughters safety.
Meanwhile you were following Seonghwa around the ship as he starts to speak up again, : "You will be starting to train in hand to hand combat today, including the sword and other hand-to-hand fighting. Of course we'll also teach you how to shoot, but one step at a time. Your teacher for this today is Yunho, Jongho will help the two of you." Seonghwa explains, as you two arrive by said two man, one smiling at you, the other one not that much.
"Hope you're ready, I won't be gentle, just because you're girl." Yunho says, after that he pulls out a sword from his belt and hands it to you. The handle felt quit cold at first, the sword heavy in your hand. "We're gonna start with the sword, we'll learn more about daggers later." Now teaching you how to hold the sword, how your stance should be and a few others things. Right after teaching you, he threw you in the cold watter with saying that you should try to fight Jongho.
"I won't hold back." Were Jonghos words and he definitely didn't, you werent injured badly after the training but had a few scratches from falling to the floor and a few slits from his blade. At some point Yunho stopped the two of you, Jongho didn't even have one little scratch, while you were full of them. "Go to Yeosang, he'll help you clean those up, it's enough for today." Following his directions, you make your way to Yeosang, who was currently in the kitchen.
"You don't look so good, let me guess Jongho was your training partner." Was heard from Yeosang, as soon as you entered the kitchen, making you groan slightly at how obvious it was. "Come sit down, I'll help you clean up, newby." Sitting down on one of the chairs, you look around the kitchen for the first time now. It looked pretty chaotic, the middle of the room stood a large table, probably for preparing the food, behind it were a lot of counters and a oven, to the left was also a door, probably where they keep the food and supplies.
Yeosang now stood in front of you with a bowl of water and a rug in his hand, starting by cleaning your hands and arms, going up to your face. "I hope he wasn't to harsh on you, but those cuts look pretty mean, maybe you should get Seonghwa or San as a training partner next time." Yeosangs words made you smile slightly, you weren't hurt by those cuts but rather by your sore muscles. Never having to learn how to fight had it's downsides. It was always your brother Jae learning how to fight in battle, along side his two best friends Wonpil and Brian, who were both in training to become guards and later on being your brothers personally assigned guards. A small tear rolls down your cheek thinking about your brother, he was the only one you were missing from the castle.
"I think someone needs a piece of pie, it normally is for the main crew, but you really need my piece now." After cleaning up your face, Yeosang hands you a piece of pie, making you smile slightly. "If you want to talk, just talk, it's probably hard for you." Yeosang tells you, while getting back to preparing the food for the dinner. "I don't miss my parents, but I have to admit I miss my brother and his friends, they were the ones I considered family, I just hope they are alright." Opening up to Yeosang about these thoughts made you feel a little bit less sad. "I don't know him, but I think he would want you to be happy and if this ship is your happiness, then I bet he is happy for you." Smiling back at Yeosang you give him a little nod.
He was right, your brother would want you to be happy and if that meant to be with these people, who by now were a better family than your old one, then so be it.
Bidding your goodbye to Yeosang, you make your way up again, breathing in the fresh sea breeze.
"You don't look so good little princess!" San calls out to you from behind the steering wheel, getting out a little laugh from you. "Yeah Jongho really didn't hold back one bit." Making your way up to San, you sit down on the railing of the quarter deck. "I can see that he didn't hold back, hope you're not to hurt." Shaking your head, you instead answer how your sore muscles are way worse right now, making the man in front of you laugh.
"Yeah it's hard at the beginning, but you'll get used to it sooner or later, we all did." Sending you a warm smile, while having his hands on the wheel. Your eyes glide over the ship, it looked lively and warm, not how you imagined a pirate ship. You always though they would be just bad people, but this crew made you change your mind.
"How long are you on this crew already?" Curiosity is getting the better of you again, you were really curious to hear how long each of them was on this ship already. "I've been on this ship for around a year now, Jongho is the newest before you, he still is only been here for half a year now. Yeosang and Wooyoung came on this ship together two years ago from what I heard. The captain and Seonghwa are here the longest, they were the ones to start this crew four years ago." Understanding a bit better now, you nod your head. You didn't know that this crew has already started to form four years ago, always gaining a new member.
"You two seem to enjoy each other." The voice of the captain and also the clicking of his boots against the little staircase was heard, before he was standing next to you and San. "I'm taking over for now, go and help one of the others, Yeosang needed help if I remember it right." Changing positions now, San made his way down, leaving you and the captain to stay back. Not knowing if you should stay or not, you stay seated and start to fumble with your fingers slightly.
"If I'm being honest, I don't know if this was the right decision or not, but I set my trust in Seonghwa and Wooyoung." Hongjoong speaks up, making you look at him. You had a feeling he wasn't really fond of you, same as Jongho for a reason. "I'm still very thankful, that you allowed me to stay." Your voice was quiet, his words still in your head, knowing that he probably wanted to say no to you, but said yes for the sake of his two crew memebers. "I can see that, but you probably also didn't think this through, you will never be able to go back, also . . The sea and life of pirates is no buisness for a princess, it's going to be dangerous and bloody." A shiver runs down your spine again from his words, it's know that pirates aren't the most morally right people and that they plunder and murder. Just now realising that you in fact, really didn't think this all through. But it's better this way, than to be sold of and locked away in a unfamiliar castle and kingdom.
"I can see the look on your face, you're not sure about yourself, maybe even regret your decision. Or maybe you're even scared of us little princess." Spoke the captain in slight mocking way, making you frown. "I am for sure not regretting anything, nor am I scared of you, Captain." Speaking the last word with venom in you voice, you stand up and march away from the captain.
How could he say that, he has no idea who you are or what you're feeling, what and asshole of a captain.
Meanwhile in your kingdom the search for you continued on. "We are sorry my king, but we couldn't find the princess anywhere. Even her jewellery is gone, we searched the whole kingdom." A guard speaks up to his king, who was sitting on his big throne, his queen pacing around, while the young prince stood a bit off to the side. "What if she was kidnapped? Or . . Even murdered! My poor daughter!" The queen crys out, worried for her only daughter.
"So. . How is the princess holding up?" Wooyoung asks you, shoving another spoon full of his food into his mouth, making you smile slightly. "Beside Jongho and Hongjoong being a pain in the ass, everyone seems to be nice, even the other man on this ship are quit friendly." Your answer gets you a laugh from Wooyoung again. "Jongho can be like that at the beginning, maybe he is also jealous of not being the youngest and newest anymore, as of for Hongjoong, he knows the danger of bringing a princess on board. . You know . ." Wooyoung started to talk, as another voice was heard in a disapproving tone. "I don't think Hongjoong would like for someone to spill out his secrets Wooyoung, show a bit more respect for your captain." Seonghwa scolds the man approaching you two, taking a seat beside you on the railing, a plate of food in his hands. The three of you were sitting a bit further away from the rest of the crew, longing for a bit quietness.
"She is not dead, we'll find her." The older child of the queen spoke up. A tall and handsome prince, who would rule this kingdom in the future. "Maybe she is on board of a ship trying to flee out of despair, Brian is getting a ship ready, we'll set sail and search the ocean nearby." Jae tells his mother softly, wiping away her tears. "I will also get a ship ready and help with the search of the princess." Chris now speaks up, wanting the princess, his fiance, back just as much as her mother wanted, but getting worried that they had not one clue of the whereabouts of the young princess.
Seonghwa and Wooyoung definitely awakened the curiosity inside of you again, what kind of secret did the captain hold, that only the main crew was allowed to know.
"Don't break you pretty little head over the captain, he will warm up to you." Seonghwa smiles, patting your head slightly, before he continues to eat again. Keeping quiet now, you did the same, the thoughts of the captain not leaving you though.
