My very first BellDom Fic 22/23

After what happened at Atlanta, lol, I just needed to post something BellDom ^^

Summary:

Do you want to meet a Matthew who sees conspiracy everywhere (oh wait, this is not big news!) and is so fond of his trolley that he treats it like a sort of puppy? Do you want to meet a Dominic in love with… himself (and with Matt, too, of course!)? And do you want to meet a Chris who wants to prove to the world he's the most masculine guy ever… but is unavoidably attracted by every… female hobby? This is what you'll find in this story, among lots of BellDom and… craziness!

Summary of the chapter: Let's let the cat out of the bag! Chapter XXI: You don't know that...

"So don't' think, not even for a moment, that you can take flight again and elope who knows where, you, lovey-dovey couple. I promised that tonight you're gonna stay, so you gotta stay!" Chris summons his friends, as they are taking a more than deserved break from the sound-check of the afternoon.

"I promise, no more flings." Matt assures, with his best angelic attitude.

Chris is about to say something, but, almost as if the topic was too delicate to face it, he desists, but he's always wavering about it. The others two notice that.

"Wassup, Chris?" Matthew asks him.

"Err... could you let me see them?"

"See what?" Dominic narrows his eyes.

"Well, you know... your compromising tattoos." Chris clarifies, a little bit embarrassed. "It's just that I'm curious... " he adds, as if he wanted to justify himself.

Matt stares at him stunned, just like Dom does.

"No bloody way, buddy!" the first states.

"Chris, what's this sudden, worrying, but mostly insane desire to see our asses?" the second asks him.

"Ah! So, now it's me the one with sick desires! Do I have to remind you what you did last night, you, Mr. 1.000-ways-to-use-whipped-cream?" Chris addresses to the blonde.

Dominic turns pale instantly.

"But... but, how do you..."

"You should know better than me, Matt is such a chatterbox!" Chris comments as Matt is ready to clear off.

"Don't you dare to run!" Dom summons him, stepping in the way and closing the door of the rehearsal room. "Damn you and your damn mouth!" he curses, immediately after.

"Well, yesterday you didn't have to complain much about my mouth, especially when it took off the cream from your body and..." Matt justifies, with a silky voice in the last part.

"Please, guys, stop it! You're crossing the bounds of how much I'm disposed to hear about this kind of topics!" Chris warns them, cooling down their ardour and, for good measure, it's just Chris who incites his friends to resume playing.

Twenty minutes after they're done with the last song on their set-list, but although the others have already put their instruments into their cases, Dom is still bent on the drums, but not for playing.

"Dom, what the hell are you doing?" Chris asks him when he sees him all engrossed staring at a cymbal.

"It looks obvious to me. I'm looking at myself!" the blond replies with a shrug, as he keeps examining his face, very accurately.

"Even in a cymbal?" Chris asks him in disbelief.

"I don't think that there's a surface Dom wouldn't manage to look at himself in!" Matt replies for the drummer.

"Dammit! This black-eye doesn't seem to get any better. People will see it in the spotlight!" Dominic complains.

"So, what's the problem? You dress up like Spiderman every now and then, so you can dress up like a panda. It would draw lots of attention, plus that would justify the black-eye." Chris suggests.

"No way, a panda is too goofy, it doesn't suit me!" he grumbles, insulted, as he crosses his arms on his chest.

"So, you could use a bandage.... You could be a pirate, like Captain Hook!" Chris strikes back.

"Uhmm...nope, I don't picture myself as Captain Hook, but I would be just perfect as Peter Pan, I already have my acid green pants, a green t-shirt, a green beret and I would be ready!" the blond already plans everything, daydreaming, as he has totally forgotten that the dressing up is supposed to help him hide his beaten eye.

"Yeeesss! If you play Peter Pan, I could play... Tinker Bell!" Matt exclaims, overexcited.

"Tinker Bell?!" his friends question him, astonished and puzzled.

"Oh, please, don't stare at me like that! A pair of fake wings and a magic wand shaped microphone would suit me so impeccably. Plus, I'm * Bells*, so there could never be someone more perfect than me to play Tinker *Bell*!" he insists.

"Well, don't worry, Bells, it's not that Dom is contending with me for that role, you can keep it!" Chris warns him, as Dom jumps to an important conclusion.

"So, buddy, you'll just have to play Captain Hook!" the blond decides.

"Why just Captain Hook?" Chris narrows his eyes.

"No offence intended, dude, but I just can't picture you as a Lost Boy of NeverLand!" Matt makes fun of him.

"But... how am I supposed to play with a hook?" the bassist made them notice.

"We'll use a symbolic hook, maybe a sticker on one of your basses!" Matt explains.

"Firstly, I don't think that there are stickers like that. Secondly, no... I don't think that Carrie, Miranda, Charlotte and Samantha would like it if I put stickers on them..." the bassist grumbles.

"What? Did I hear it right? Did you really give your basses women's names?" Matt questions him.

"This is not correct: Chris, did you really name your basses like the four protagonists of 'Sex and the City'?" Dom points out.

As Matt and Dom burst out laughing madly, Chris wishes he had kept silent.

<Lucky for me I didn't tell them that I named my other basses like the main characters of 'Desperate Housewives' and 'The bold and the beautiful'!> he ponders.

Anyway, he knows very well how to make them shut up.

"You shouldn't even talk about that! You, Matt, named your trolley, for God's sake! And you, Dom, you're the worst, since you named even your own reflection!" he strikes back, pungent.

The way Matt is looking at Dominic doesn't need any questions to be asked.

"No, that's not true, I have never named Jamie... oh, shit!" Dom betrayals himself.

"Jamie?!" the frontman repeats, very amused.

"Hey! We were talking about my black-eye, weren't we?" the drummer tries to change topic.

"Right. By the way, forget about the concert in disguise, we'll never do such a silly thing!" Chris disenchants them.

"Dommy, I guess the only solution is to rely on a good concealer, a lot of it!" Matt suggests to his boyfriend, as he leans closer to reach his ear. "Can't wait to have another wild meeting in our bed with you... and Jamie!" he winks at him, before leaving the rehearsal room, as Chris follow him.

The concert was great, just like the short meeting with the fans, to take some pictures together, sign stuff and chat a little bit.

It seems that Matthew and Dominic kept their word.

Although they have nothing to do on the day after, except from the flight to take on early evening, Matt and Dom's rest is interrupted by a sudden phone call, at early morning.

Dominic is still trying to convince his body to get up from the bed, as Matthew has already made this effort, so it takes him only five rings, before he realizes which the source of that unbearable noise is and makes it end.

"'llo?" he slurs.

"Guys, come in my room. Tom called, he will be here in a few minutes!" Chris warns them, trying his best not to slur, due to the numbness that still overwhelms him.

This is enough to wake the two lovers up properly and they get ready as fast as they can, in order to face their manager.

Tom makes his entrance, carrying his trolley with him and showing such a tan that he could make a surfer envious.

"Hello guys, how are you?" he cheers, leaving his trolley on the floor and approaching to his friends.

"We are happy to see you and everything, but... what the hell are you doing here?" Dominic asks him, puzzled, as he sits on the bed, next to Matt.

"Well, a proper manager has to verify how his band is going with the shows and stuff like that."

"We tried our best in every single show we performed, the crowd seems to appreciate us a lot, so I guess we are being successful." Chris informs him as he stands in front of the window, taking a glimpse of the view outside, absently.

"What about the collaboration with My Chemical Romance? Did things improve between you and them?" Tom wonders.

"I haven't killed them yet, that's all you need to know about that!" Matt snorts, bored.

Tom is about to say something, but then he changes his mind, hearing a ring from the mobile inside the pocket of his trolley.

"Hey, Tom, look, your mobile is ringing." Chris warns him at the second ring.

"Uh? Are you sure? Uh! That's right, it's ringing." the manager replies with fake nonchalance, in a cold sweat, as he hopes that whoever is calling him will quit it, but at the fifth ring he begins to think he won't be that lucky.

"Wassup? Why don't you answer to the call?" Dom exhorts him, when the rings become seven.

"Well, it's not that important. Whoever it is, he/she will recall. Now I'm talking with you and..." he justifies, more and more agitated, realizing too late that Matthew has already opened the pocket of his trolley, taking possession of his mobile.

"No, Matt, what the hell are you doing?" Tom asks him, turning scarily pale, no matters how tanned he is.

"If you don't wanna answer, I'm gonna do it for you." the frontman decides, as he presses the key to answer, before the tenth ring.

"Hallo? It's... "

"I don't give a fuck to who the hell it is! All I know is that you have a mobile that doesn't belong to you, dammit, you, fucking, ugly, bastard, twat, asshole, stupid, moron, son of a ..." someone who Matthew already recognized roars from the other side, before Matthew moves the mobile away, as the speaker keeps cursing.

Matt looks at Tom in awe.

"Tom, just a little inquiry of mine, could you explain to me why *Brian Molko* is barking at me?" he asks him, as Chris did the wisest thing ever, i.e. he presses the key to end that call and, for good measures, he also turns the mobile off.

"Well, because I happen to have his manager's mobile." Tom explains, very innocently.

"And why the hell do you have her mob..." Dominic wonders, before Chris, Matt and he jump to the right conclusions.

"A girl with your same job..." Chris ponders loudly.

"The two bands who'd better never ever find the truth..." Matt recalls.

"That's who you were with: Placebo's manager!" Dom figures out.

"It's just outrageous! You're such an awful betrayer!" Matthew accuses him, with the most hurt expression he can show to him, but it's nothing compared to the hurt expression on Chris' face.

"I can't believe it... you didn't confess that to me! You always tell me everything." the bassist grumbles, deeply disappointed.

"You're right, Chris, but truth is that Gossip is your second name! You wouldn't be able to keep that secret, not even for one hour!" Tom strikes back.

"That's not true, when I try really hard there are secrets that I can keep very well." the other justifies, as he exchange an understanding look with Matt and Dom who confine themselves just to nod.

"Anyway, am I the only one to find that a very beautiful thing? I mean... this is soooo romantic! It reminds me to that little fairytale of 'Romeo and Juliet'. Who knows? Maybe with their forbidden love they will bring peace between the two factions, making them get along with each other." the blonde sighs with a daydreaming attitude, but it takes his soulmate less than half a second to disenchant him.

"Firstly, gee, Dommie, you're really obsessed over 'Romeo and Juliet' . Secondly, I'm sorry for disappointing you, but no-fucking-one will bring peace any-fucking-where, we'll keep merrily hating each other, cause things are perfect the way they are!" the singer swears. "And, thirdly, Dom, I don't think that Mr. Shakespeare would be happy to hear someone call one of his most famous and majestic tragedies ... fairytale!" he concludes, with a hint of reproach in his tone.

"Oh, c'mon! A boy and a girl flirt, hidden from everyone, in order to make a fool of their parents. A bunch of rhymes, some fights here and there and... ok, there's not a happy ending, but it's a nice fairytale, anyway!" Dom insists.

"Yeah, sure. So, let me see if I got it right: you probably think that Hamlet is only a guy who suffers from a big indecision and holds a skull in his hand, just because he thinks it's cool?" Chris asks him, sarcastically.

"Why, is it not so?" the blonde shrugs, looking kinda bored.

"Oh, God! Dom, you really need a good revision of Shakespearian literature." Matt rolls his eyes.

"Well, if you offer to be my private teacher, *very private*, I'll take the lessons more than willingly." Dominic replies mischievously, winking at Matthew.

Tom looks at them kind of dumbfounded, but lets it fly.

Matt takes a glimpse of Tom's look and that brings him back to the main reason why they start discussing.

"Don't think that I forgot it, you, shameful, abominable traitor!" he accuses him, once again.

"Actually, guys, we didn't even give him the time to explain. " Chris makes them notice and then he points at Tom. "Maybe it's not what we think, maybe it's just one of his shrewd plans to beguile their manager, getting precious information and then stealing her mobile, in order to prevent her from being in contact with her band." Chris presumes, knowing very well that 'conspiracy' is the keyword to be in tune with Matthew.

"Tom, did you really do such a thing?" the frontman asks him, as his eyes sparkle with hope.

"No, no, fucking no! We just decided to buy two identical mobiles, because we thought it would be something nice, but less binding than a ring. Anyway, I don't care, you just have to accept that, because I care about her, she cares about me and we are more than intentioned to turn this story into something serious." Tom warns them.

"So, you're not a simple traitor, you're a persistent traitor!" Matt snaps.

"Just quit it, Bells! It's not about you, it's not even about Placebo, it's just something between Alex and I" Tom states, intransigent. "Plus, you keep calling me a traitor, but you don't know what Chris did once..." he goes on, as the bassist glares at him with a 'Don't you dare!' look, dreading that he already knows what he's about to say.

"What do you mean?" Matt frowns.

"Do you remember your so beloved golden hat? Well, truth is that you didn't lost it, but it was Chris who stole it from you and got rid of it."

"You what?!" Matt exclaims, astonished, looking at Chris like he had stabbed him in the back.

"Damn you, Chris! Why did you do that? Do you have the slightest idea of how many stores I went to, before finding its perfect twin?" Dom intervenes.

"Oh, c'mon, Bells! Firstly, that hat was horrible. Secondly, just like Dom said, you have another one, now, so why should you complain?" Chris justifies.

"I just know that I' m gonna keep it in a strongbox, like a jewel, far away from you and your bloody clutches!" Matt perjures.

Chris looks at Tom with a hurt expression, once again.

"How could you blurt that to him? And to think that I even tried to help you, before..."

"Well, you gave me such a great help, after all!" Tom strikes back, sarcastically. "Anyway, Chris, nothing personal, really, but it's such a hard struggle for survival." he justifies.

"Okay, if it's so... well, Matt, you don't know that... Dom is a very big fan of My Chemical Romance!" Chris reveals.

"WHAAAAAAAAAAAAT?! Oh, God, I'm surrounded by traitors!" the frontman gets alarmed.

"Honey, please, try to understand, those guys are not so bad, after all, they have powerful guitars, a proper drummer and... damn, Matt, as catastrophic as you are, I just don't understand why you haven't fallen in love with the lyrics of their songs, yet!" Dom strikes back, as Tom can't help noticing that 'honey' the blond addressed to Matt with.

"Anyway, even if I don't agree, I'll let you free to sabotage them as much as you please!" the drummer adds, making his partner smile again.

Anyway, Dominic is too engrossed glaring at Chris, to notice that.

"Chris, I didn't mean to come to saying that, but you just deserve it, so ... Tom, Matt, maybe you don't know that... he likes crocheting!" Dom strikes, unmercifully.

His listeners immediately burst out laughing madly.

"But... no... Dom, what the hell are you blathering about?" Chris replies, panic-stricken.

"I saw you once, so don't you dare deny that!"

"But, no... it's just that I was using it as a weapon!" he tries to justify, unsuccessfully.

"Yeah, sure! And what did you exactly plan to do with it? To knit a sweater to your potential attacker?" Matt makes fun of him.

"Okay, guys, you just asked for that. Tom, you don't know that... Matt and Dom are together!" Chris reveals.

Everyone shuts up, but after some seconds it's Tom who breaks the silence.

"Together like the fact that you are one next to the other... right?" Tom asks them, wavering.

"Well, mostly one upon the other, or one behind the other... and vice versa!" the blond removes all doubt.

"Damn you, Dom!" Matt reproaches him.

"What? What did I do so wrong? After all, we'll have to tell him, sooner or later, so let's do it now! And we must thank Chris for that." Dominic explains.

"So, now I guess that you need explanations, right?" Matt wonders, turning to Tom.

"Explanation ... and a very alcoholic drink!" he replies.

"And that's how we came to this." Matthew concludes, as, taking turns, they all have informed Tom about the vicissitudes of the latest months.

"Oh." is all Tom manages to say, probably still too shocked to speak.

"So, you will keep being our manager, won't you?" Dominic asks him, with a hint of uncertainty.

"Of course, I will, you are and you'll always be my friends, independently of your... errr... sexual preferences!" Tom reassures them, a little bit embarrassed.

"Anyway, we're not going to spread the word about this. Chris and you, Tom, are the only ones who know... well, except from Gaia and Jessica, but I don't think they care about spreading this news." Matthew comments.

"But if somehow the truth came out, on the musical level it wouldn't change anything, we're still the Muse and if some of our fans won't accept that, well, they're not real fans, so we'd better lose them." Dominic goes on.

"Guys, don't cross your bridges before coming to them. If it doesn't happen it's better, but if it should happen, we'll know how to face everything." their manager heartens them. "So, now can we talk about something that it's not my sentimental situation, Chris' hobbies or your mutual love?" he exhorts them.

"Sure! We have such a big, epic event to face. I already have lots of ideas for it. You know, I was thinking about an advertising campaign with reverse psychology system." Matthew suggests, very excited.

"Such as?" Tom looks at him, in disbelief.

"You know, something like 'Hey, people, don't come to see our show at Wembley, it's nothing special, after all, it's not such a nice place, there won't be any cool bands, even our playlist will be kind of insignificant, and...'" he attempts to explain, before Chris and Dom promptly silence him up, wrapping their hand around his mouth.

"Damn you, Bells, didn't you cause enough damage with your fucking, bloody, sodding reverse psychology?" Dom snaps.

"Please, Tom, don't mind what Matt said." Chris advises him, as his listener rolls his eyes, exasperated.

"Don't worry, Chris, I've quit doing that a long time ago!"

So, are you ready for the (100% BellDom) epilogue?

Just a little note: in 'Try Something New' I started writing about Tom and Alex (the Placebo's manager) getting along, a lot... so I ended up falling in love with this pairing and I keep using it whenever I got the chance... hope you won't mind.

The most funny thing is that I've never seen Alex, but I like picturing her like a petite blonde, very pushy! ^^

(Season 2, pre Teach Me Tonight)

It's strange to wake up alone these days. But sometimes Midge leaves town for work, and when that happens, Lenny starts his day early.

Coffee and the newspaper, and then a walk to main street for more reading (they get the Times at home, but he gets the Post and the Daily News and the Voice from the newsstand).

Fall in Stars Hollow is really something. It reminds him a little of living on Long Island, the way the foliage is. It's nice. He never really thought he'd appreciate it this way, but here he is, looking around at the reds and oranges and yellows and browns in admiration as he carries his stack of papers to Luke's.

It's not too crowded yet, still early as it is. Kirk is here, and Tom is getting a breakfast sandwich to go. It's just Luke behind the counter this early. Especially on a Saturday. Caesar will show up in an hour, and Jess will stumble in from upstairs soon enough.

"Mornin', Lenny," Luke greets him. "Coffee?"

"Yes, please," he nods as he looks up from his reading. "Anything special on the menu today?"

"Blueberry muffins just came out of the oven," Luke offers.

Lenny grins. "One of those, please, with a little jam, and an egg sandwich on a sesame bagel with cheddar and tomato?"

"You got it," Luke nods, scribbling it down. "How's Midge's gig going?"

"Very well," Lenny nods. "She called last night after Shy Baldwin got her soused."

Luke chuckles. "I don't know why you stayed behind."

Lenny shrugs good-naturedly. "Ad far as I am aware, I am still banned from Vegas. And your blueberry muffins are much better than the crap at a Vegas breakfast buffet."

"Flattery will not get you a free extra muffin," Luke tells him as he walks off.

"Rats."

He goes back to his papers, only looking up when the door opens and Rory steps in, looking sleepy. She slumps down at his table and lets her head thump against his copy of the Daily News.

"It's Saturday, teenagers don't exist this early," Lenny jokes gently.

She groans and sits up. "I'm volunteering at a soup kitchen in Hartford today."

"Oh?"

"I need more extracurricular for my college application," Rory explains.

Lenny gazes at her for a quiet moment before setting his copy of the Voice down. "Do me a favor?"

"What?" She asks as Luke sets two cups of coffee down in front of them.

"Remember that college is not the be-all end-all of your life," he tells her. "I know it's very important to you, but plenty of people go their whole lives being perfectly happy without going."

She nods slowly, lifting her coffee to take a sip. "I'm going to Harvard."

He thinks about pushing. About explaining that life seldom turns out the way we hope. But she's so young, and it's so early.

Lenny sighs and grins, patting her elbow as she drinks more coffee. "Yes. Harvard."

At that moment, as expected, Jess stumbles in from the back staircase, looking bleary.

Rory rolls her eyes. "What a jerk."

Lenny chuckles as Luke settles a plate of multiple muffins on the table. "You do love me."

"Shut up, Lenny," Luke tells him.

Lenny smirks and looks at Rory again as he takes a muffin. "Flirting will get you everywhere."

Rory giggles. "You sound like Mom."

"Why not? Everyone thinks she's mine and Midge's, anyway," he jokes.

Rory laughs again as she takes her own muffin. "I should head out," she says, reaching for the money in her pocket.

Lenny waves her off. "It's on me."

"But-"

"Leave."

Rory grins and hugs him briefly around the neck before heading for the door. "Bye!"

He shakes his head and goes back to his paper.

Newish Comics:

Batman and Robin #4: I see we are having yet another flashback to Damian's Terrible Childhood (TM). Also narrowing my eyes at Kirk here. Apparently we are back in our Man-Bat being morally ambiguous era (when will my son, Aaron Langstrom, return from the pit on non-existence??)

Look I don't care what reason Williamson comes up with to convince Damian to go to school I'm just happy to see him attending school! He needs it!

Outsiders #2: I still so very much wish they'd used a different title for this comic. Anyway, underwater submersible adventures! Someone had fun reading all the ways the Titan could have been built better, I think.

Speed Force #2: this remains cute and devoted to fun and continuity (aside from the tragic continued squishing of generations together).

Wesley Dodds: The Sandman #3: I think having this as my introductory Riley Rossmo comic is going really well, as I do actually love the dynamism of the art in how this story is told. Also Tom Napolitano as letterer is doing a BUNCH of work even if there's no hand lettering. It's appreciated! Oh the story? I'm enjoying it. I'm reasonably light on JSA knowledge so I'm just enjoying the ride here.

Action Comics #1060: Etrigan! *kicky feet* Also I really do enjoy Otho-Ra. The B and C plots here are both event stories, if I read this right? Events I'm not reading yet.

World’s Finest Teen Titans #6: I love everyone at this bar. I love Roy and Ollie having a moment. I love Wally threatening to start using trick arrows (to Roy’s outrage). I love Garth breaking my heart and Donna comforting him. I love Karen and Mal being adorable together.

And I love Dick’s speech.

You killed once, you’ll do it again. ... But this ‘end always justifies the means’ crap is your Achilles heel.

Love your work, Dick Grayson.

The Warlord #30: This week in Skartaris the Theran Army is invading Shamballah! But Travis is delayed in telling anyone as he has to fight a leopard in a tree! Then his horse has run off and he swims through a bog, where he gets eaten by a marine dinosaur (he escapes via the power of being The Warlord and stabbing his sword through the dino while in its stomach).

Anyway Travis starts swinging between trees in his race to warn Shamballah, when the tree he's in falls down because a forester cut it down. He convinces the forester to help him spread the warning (though the forester is worried about his family nearby)

They warn the villages, get back together, the Therans are coming, Travis blocks a narrow bridge, and the forester runs back to warn his family...including his very familiar son!

HELLO JOSHUA! I SUSPECT YOU ARE THE REAL JOSHUA AND NOT THE CLONE EVEN THOUGH THE STORY TRIED TO TELL ME YOU WERE THE CLONE. (Having read wikis I also know this is true, but it was also...obvious. From the writing)

Look! Joshua even has his watch armband so there is no way you can confuse him for any other red headed child called Joshua. (Also...great job there Deimos and Deimos' minions, hiding Joshua...right under Tara's nose literally in the surrounding forest of Shamballah. Truly a difficult place to find him).

Oh so we are FULL retconning the 'that's the clone' theory now are we? I mean it was bullshit from the start but you know.

Anyway the forester then tries to save Travis in his final stand by sending a logjam of logs down the stream to knock out Travis' opponents! And there we leave it.

(Hopefully) Obscure Band Facts

The inspiration for Exodus' song "Bonded By Blood" was when the members of the band at the time (Kirk Hammett, Paul Baloff, Gary Holt, and Tom Hunting) cut each of their hands with a razorblade and rubbed their blood together out of appreciation for being in a band together. Kirk still has a scar on his left hand from this and has called it one his favorite memories with Paul.

Metal Lickers

I understand why my brothers fell asleep to Metallica when we were road tripping 14 hours as a family.

I can’t say my uncle got me into Metallica, because he didn’t, but I think I inherited my appreciation of them from him. He taught himself to play guitar, listening to Metallica in his bedroom. I gifted him a Metallica shirt for Christmas one year. Now he primarily plays mandolin in bluegrass bands. As I listen to and enjoy Metallica I have to recognize that there has to be something in my blood that is naturally drawn to this type of music. It was in my uncle’s blood, too.

Currently, as I write this, I’m sitting in a movie theater watching the global premiere of Metallica’s latest album, 72 Seasons, while drinking a chocolate Oreo milkshake. There are at least 80 other people in here. I saw two Hellfire shirts and I’m wearing my jean vest.

To be clear, I don’t mean my brothers (and myself) fell asleep in a bad way.

I also understand why people in the 80s might’ve called metalheads a brainwashing cult.

Firstly, my friend and I joked that Metallica feels like a weighted blanket. The way the deep bass and bass drums kind of pound with your heart and there is never a break in the sound and you’re always hearing something is like when you’re wrapped up in bed with no air holes letting in the cold air. Metallica is warm. Most metal music is, but I think Metallica does this effect best, which is why I like them best.

Call me basic.

Secondly, there is a rhythmic-meditative sort of factor in the way James downpicks and Lars bangs on bass and toms and even hi-hat. Factor in Robert’s lock-in on bass and you have a nice rhythm section that can put you into a trance and, eventually, put you to sleep. It’s not dissimilar to butterfly tapping (look it up) or focusing on taking slow and equal breaths; mimicking the beat of a mother while still in the womb. There has to be some sort of cathartic reasoning to this sort of chug-chug-chug beat that Metallica and other metal artists use as their own personal therapy.

Rhythm is everything.

Lastly, this is moreso for me. It’s the familiarity of Lars’s drums and the consistent chugging of James and Kirk’s downpicking. It lets me know that I am safe, that it is a comfortable space for me to be in. When I was in middle school, I had a brief stint where each morning I would hit shuffle on Metallica’s Spotify profile (as I had not yet convinced my dad to get Spotify Premium for the family). From that, my mom awarded me Metallica’s black album for Christmas that year. I grew out of that Metallica phase relatively quickly; for lack of better words, my music taste hadn’t quite evolved or matured to them yet.

But it has now!

I hate to admit it but I can’t say Eddie Munson didn’t get me back into them. Like, I was already kind of revisiting them. But I’ll be damned if that Master of Puppets sequence in Season 4 Vol. 2 didn’t thrust me to the nearest record store to buy Master of Puppets on vinyl.

Do you have any complaints about HP canon, and if so, what are they? For example I know a lot of people really dont like that Draco didnt get a redemption arc, but your work seems to really thrive off of a close reading of canon Draco in a way I think a lot of fanfic just cant because hes like... a very bad person. Its made me wonder if you are very... canon positive? I guess? Or more positive than most, maybe.

I have too many complaints about HP canon to list in an ask, but I can try to list some of them. First I want to say that choosing to use canon to inform your fic has less to do with whether or not you like the canon and more to do with what you like or want from fanfic. If you don’t like that Draco wasn’t redeemed, you can write a fic that posits he is redeemed and so that canon doesn’t have to be dealt with. Or, you can write a fic that shows how he gets redeemed or deals with the fact of his redemption to show what canon could have been. I obviously prefer the latter style, though I respect anyone’s choice to write in the former style. I can’t say I always understand the former style, but I respect the fact that people want to do it and should if that’s what they want.

I will say that I’m not sure I’ve ever written a fic that’s fully canon compliant, and I can’t quite imagine wanting to. Most of my fics a response to canon--they’re about something that wasn’t in canon, that I wish was in canon; or they’re about something that wasn’t in canon, and I don’t want to be in canon, but I still want to be explored. I wish the MCU would actually deal with the responsibility of wielding outsized power of destruction, so I wrote MCU fics. I do not want Schitt’s Creek to deal with the darkness of David Rose’s trauma or past, but I was still interested in it, so I wrote darker SC fic. I love Star Trek TOS, but I want to see Kirk and Spock hook up, so I wrote TOS fic.

There are a few things where I like the canon just the way it is, so I don’t write fic for it. Rainbow Rowell’s Carry On series is just what I want. I don’t need to write fic.

Back to my complaints with HP canon, the major problem I had was a lot of set up without the follow-through I expected or desired. I discussed that in my tumblr posts about Ron and Ginny. The set up of the Harry Potter universe is rather black and white, which I appreciate--it’s easy to get invested; it’s easy to consume. You know who the good guys are right away, and there’s no more complication. LOTR is rather like that, and I love it. But then HP begins to deconstruct its premise--James Potter was good, but he wasn’t kind. Dumbledore was trying to stop Voldemort, but he wasn’t honest. Snape is a horrible person, but he’s trying to do the right thing. This is my favorite sort of story, the one that starts black and white--vampires are evil; the robots will kill us, and the Gems that didn’t rebel are the enemy. Then a vampire earns his soul, or you find out you’re a robot, or--well, actually I didn’t like where Stephen Universe really went with that, but you get the picture. The Harry Potter series began the process of turning its own premise inside out, but somewhere in Halfblood Prince, that got too hard, and things began to snap back to their original shape. Good is good, actually, and bad people will always be bad.

One example of this is the death of Voldemort. Harry is set up as a mirror to Voldemort. Their pasts are very similar. Harry even feels compassion for Voldemort. At several different points, Harry is faced with the fact that he has to kill Voldemort. But Harry never has to deal with killing Voldemort, or with making a decision to spare Voldemort. In the end, Voldemort causes his own end as a result of his own destructive tendencies. This makes me feel that the text is suggesting that Voldemort deserves death. The idea that anyone “deserves” death for bad things they’ve done is not something I believe in or ascribe to. But even if it is the argument the text wants to make--what was the point of showing us that Tom Riddle was lonely, hurt, feared, and probably mistreated? The point really appears to be to show that two boys can have the same background and one turns out good while the other turns out bad, because goodness is inherent to some people while evil is inherent to others. I find this conclusion abhorrent, but I feel the conclusion is ultimately borne out by plenty of other aspects of the HP books.

The other example is Draco’s lack of redemption. I do not think villains have to be redeemed. The world has proven that shitty people can remain shitty. I also appreciate stories that show us the humanity of shitty people. A story about someone who is faced with thier bad choices but continues to make bad choices because they’re too afraid to do otherwise can be a good story. But I guess with Draco, I felt like I saw enough of his inner turmoil to understand why his heart would change, but not a thorough explanation of why it wouldn’t. Combined with many other similar characterizations in HP canon, it just feels like more essentialism--bad people are bad, and that’s how it is. I don’t mean there’s no nuance--as I said, the series does begin to deconstruct its own premise; we even saw how the Trio could be shitty. But ultimately they make the right choices. The characters who make the wrong choices generally continue to make them, except for Snape and Dudley. My complaint with those two representing a change of heart is that we don’t get to see the actual painful process of what that looks like--Snape’s happens pre-canon and there is too little of Dudley to show what is going on in Dudley’s brain.

The last thing I absolutely hate about HP is a lot of the “bad” characters tend to be overweight or unappealing in appearance. It’s true that a lot of this might be Harry’s POV--maybe Snape actually is the sex god some fics make him out to be, and Harry just he’s greasy because he doesn’t like him, and maybe Harry doesn’t like a good hook nose (I do). Additionally, Lockhart is very pretty, and while I want to firmly stress that Draco is never describes as good-looking, he’s not really described as ugly, and I believe Narcissa is even described as beautiful. But the book isn’t written in close third-person Harry POV, and “pointy” isn’t very flattering. Unkind words and stereotypes are used throughout to highlight the badness or evil of almost all the characters we’re not “supposed to” like. The descriptions of the Dursleys in particular are upsetting.

In my opinion, the  above examples demonstrate a lack of compassion at the heart of the HP story. That’s what I’ve always hated about it and what always made me want to write about it. I want to write and say, “Look at this. This is fucked up. This is wrong.” Some people don’t read fic for that reason, and I think that’s fine. Plenty of those people really hate my fic, which is also fine. I know that many things in this world lack compassion, and I don’t spend years of my life writing fanfic about them. I think the reason I keep coming back is to me, the premise was unkind--which I was fine with, and then the text itself began to deconstruct itself--which I was overjoyed by. It made me fall in love with the series. But when the premise snapped back to an essentially black and white world, I felt betrayed.

In conclusion, I find HP at its very essence to be unkind. Ursula K Le Guin said it best when she said that it was “ethically rather mean-spirited.”

Away missions were your favourite thing to do. Any chance you had to beam down and discover something new always had your foremost attention. As fun as they were, you knew the dangers of exploring strange new worlds. So when the captain told his crew he would be away for a few days, you were a little nervous to say the least.

"Jim," you said, grabbing the sleeve of his shirt with concern lacing your voice. "Are you sure about this? We don't even know what this civilization is like, or if there's a chance they will be friendly, or-"

"Hey, shh." Jim brought a finger up to your lips and tilted his head to the side slightly, partially amused by your ramblings.

"I just get worried, Jim, you know this."

"I do," he started, bringing your chin up so you would look at him. He smiled. It was comforting and it told you everything you needed to know to calm your nerves as he continued. "And don't think I don't appreciate that. But, we've scanned everything and made contact with the ambassadors personally. There is always sufficient risk involved, but what's exploration without a little danger, right?"

The captain's cheeky grin after finishing his sentence caused you to involuntarily smile yourself, and Jim brought you in for a hug. Resting his chin atop your head, you stood like that for a good while, and your mind briefly wandered off on its own, thoughts running around your brain, resting on the time you had first met.

You met Jim at the academy, and his reputation was legendary, putting it lightly. Even before he beat the Kobiyashi Maru test, James Kirk was well known among Starfleet's cadets, not always for the best of reasons. He took a lot of getting used to, but when it came down to it, Jim was a very respectable and decent guy. The more you hung out on study break days, you came to realise there was so much more to him than he let on to others. Your Jim Kirk was kind, caring, charming and intelligent, a side of him nobody else got to see. What had made him open this half of himself to you would keep you forever bewildered, but you were grateful to get the chance to see him as he truly was.

Your brain flashed through each and every memory you had together, the good and the bad, right up until the current moment. Still stood in his arms, your mind focused on that. It wasn't easy to hide how you felt about Jim, and you'd given up on it long ago. You were sure he knew it, even Bones had picked up on it, but if he did then you wondered why he hadn't brought it up. Jim was hardly a shy person. Fleeting touches that lingered too long, glances and eye contact that lasted a second too much. Paired with a multitude of other things, there was no chance he had failed to pick up on everything going on. You put it down to his pride, knowing he wouldn't let anything trivial stand in his way of captaining the Enterprise as best he could.

"Something on your mind?" A soft voice snapped you out of your thoughts, and you shook your head, blinking a couple of times as you looked up at Jim.

"No, just thinking."

"I figured since you hadn't answered me or responded for a while that I should start writing your eulogy," Jim chuckled, and you let out a laugh yourself, playfully narrowing your eyes.

"Oh, charming, though I would love to know what you'd say."

Jim raised a brow, and you looked at him expectantly, a triumphant air about you.

"That's for me to know and you to hopefully never find out."

"Thought I had you there, Jim," you shook your head in defeat, and he did an over-exaggerated victory dance. Dance was perhaps too proper of a term, rather Jim shimmied and nodded his head to express his victory.

"One day, one day."

As the laughter died down, you were brought back to the reality that Jim would be leaving the next morning, and you sighed. Jim cocked his head, making eye contact with you as his eyes shone with concern. You shook your head to dismiss his worry, and placed a hand on his shoulder, only now realising he still had his arms around your waist.

"Be careful, tomorrow, I'd like for you to come back relatively unharmed."

"Relatively? Now that's a word that has room for some level of chaos, I like it." Even in the most worrisome of times, this man could make you laugh. You both hated it and loved it. Jim smiled hearing you laugh, it was like a soft song to his ears, one that sounded like home.

"Just, try not to die, I don't do public speaking very well so your eulogy is going to be terrible," you joked, and he let out his own bark of laughter. Settling a smile on his face, you knew just by looking at him that he would take care of himself. He pulled you closer and you buried your face in the crook of his neck. No matter the occasion, when or where, Jim smelled good. It was comforting, and it was a scent that remind you of what home feels like, too.

"Jim?" Your voice was hesitant, your brain unsure of whether the next sentence would make it out or not, and you refused to look at him.

"Yes, sweetheart?"

"Can I borrow one of your jumpers?" Your question was innocent enough, but due to your position, you didn't notice his glance towards you and the knowing smirk on his lips. Pulling back and smiling down at you, he nodded.

"Of course you can, whichever you'd like. Do you not have your own?" Jim's question seemed naïve, but you saw no reason to lie.

"I do, but yours smell like you, and I know I'll miss you whilst you're gone is all..." you trailed off quietly, not believing yourself that you had said that aloud, to his face. Jim chuckled, rubbing his thumb across your cheek and gazing at you, eyes giving away any humorous comment he may have.

"That's sweet, don't look so embarrassed. I miss you too, you know, when you're not here, or it's been a long day. Borrow one for as long as you like, or keep it if you want to. I'll always be here though, you know that don't you?"

"Of course I do, make sure you come back to me, you idiot."

Jim's smile grew, and you kissed his cheek and let your arms rest around his shoulders. He placed a short, sweet kiss on your forehead in return.

"Wouldn't dream of doing anything else. I have someone holding my clothing hostage, waiting for me to come back home."

THIS IS IT!!! THE ORIGINAL EPISODE THAT SPAWNED HUNDREDS OF FANZINES!!!!!! aka the Gayest episode there's so much ship-proof here my Gay List is literally just "this whole episode" My boi Chekov is finally here and there's more screentime and character development time for the secondary characters!!!!!

Waaiiit so... Spock has to either bang the person he's bonded to or die... and the fight was supposed to decide if he could do that with T'Pring... but apparently rolling around in the dirt with Kirk and the shock from thinking he died was enough to get him back to normal... which means the fight with Kirk counts as banging and Kirk must be the person Spock is bonded to.

"Having is not as satisfying as wanting" :)) I love how completely destroyed Spock is when he thinks Kirk is dead and how GODDAMN HAPPY HE IS WHEN HE'S ALIVE HOLY CRAP HE'S SMILING AND GRABBING HIS SHOULDERS and Bones and Christine are just like ;D they know he's in love and Spock is so flustered.

Also don't think I didn't notice how Kirk and Spock left the room together and how BOTH of them were flustered as hell when Bones said the thing about the emotional scene.

Can we grammatically appreciate these two sentences?

The reference is pretty obvious; the legendary fight between Anakin and Obi-Wan. However, there’s a little but important difference; Obi-Wan gave up on Anakin.

just look at the phrase, it’s all in the past tense: “you WERE my brother” “I LOVED you”

While Keith not just for a single time during the fighting gave any sign that he would leave Shiro behind. it became even more clear when he said the phrase using the present tense: “you ARE my brother” “I LOVE you”

Keith understood that it’s his time to bring Shiro out of the darkness.

Lance was right; our precious boy has grown up indeed.

we know that bobby only watched ds9 and dean watched the tos movies for sure which implies he's seen tos as well (plus he calls jack spock). so what do you think everyone's favorite trek is? sam is without a doubt a tng fan first and foremost. i think out of all tos movies cas prefers the wrath of khan because he Feels Things when kirk and spock do the ta'al through the glass. charlie has definitely seen some trek (we've seen her llap), do you think she's into tos first and foremost? anyway let's talk about star trek nights in the bunker.

OKAY SO I HAVE. MANY MANY THOUGHTS ABOUT THIS. SORRY THIS IS SO LONG.

like. like of COURSE bobby only likes ds9 of course he does i could have told you this without the show becuase like. bobby is That Bitch. i think rufus will have watched TOS at least because leonard nimoy worked hard on linking jewish faith and practices into the vulcan lore and i think that would mean something to him. bobby will catch rufus smiling at him sometimes while they’re watching ds9 and ask him what all gruffly and rufus will smirk at him and say something about sisko with jake and bobby with dean and bobby will just cough and take a swig of whiskey and rufus will raise his eyebrows but let it slide. rufus definitely makes a comment once about dean&cas being like jake&nog that totally flies over dean’s head but bobby is all knowing eyebrow raise about.

i think cas and jack would really like discovery. while it has some issues with inconsistency, pacing, being a little dark, it also does better than the other TV treks at utilising the nature of film as a medium to instill a sense of wonder, at space and the world, and that’s something they’d really appreciate. i have my own issues with disco, but an obol for charon is as close to the central core of trek that disco ever gets. cas and jack also like that one in particular because they like listening to all the different languages being spoken. they all love michael (everyone loves michael). cas’ faves are stamets and reno because they’re mean and gay, jack’s fave is tilly because she’s excitable and bright and he latches onto that. dean likes reno because she’s got spunk. sam’s fave is airiam and he will never forgive them for killing her off. sam, cas and dean all feel an uncomfortable kinship with both ash and culber - they’ve both been the one with monster teeming under the surface, controleld by something not themself, but they’ve also all spent that time in hell/purgatory, separated from everyone they love.

thinking about episodes that would really get to them all, darmok is. THE ONE. i have a whole unfinished essay about darmok as the platonic ideal of star trek; the perfect distillation of everything trek is SUPPOSED to be about. it doens’t always get there but by god it tries! that speech michael gives in the disco s2 finale - “There's a whole galaxy of people out there who will reach for you. You have to let them. Find that person who seems farthest from you and reach for them.” - that’s what darmok is about!!! it’s all about a situation where real communication seems impossible, where everything we know about talking and learning has broken down. and picard says, okay, i will find another way. i can’t relate to you, you can’t relate to me, but by god i’m going to try. we all meet people we have trouble communicating with in our lives, and often, those people will not care about changing their own ways to accommodate us. for people with autism, adhd, psychosis, the list goes on, this is a very common occurrence. it’s exhausting and frustrating and alienating. darmok is all about crossing that barrier. about reaching for someone through a world of difficulty and learning how to talk. learning how to share something with someone who seems out of our reach. it’s beautiful, it’s heartwrenching, it means more to me than i can easily put into words! 

anyway i think the bunker fam would experience a lot of emotions watching it together. there’s defintiely a lot of hugging eachother, sam cries a lot and won’t look at anyone until after the episode ends. jack just asks a lot of questions and talks about his progress learning sign language with cas. dean snakes his hand into cas’ halfway through and doesn’t let go. doesn’t show the emotion on his face, but he clutches harder at the emotional beats. cas runs his fingers through jack’s hair and thinks a lot, and decides not to say anything unless dean talks first. its just a Lot for everyone. 

dean def makes them marathon all the TOS and TNG movies. it’s an experience everyone needs at least once. i think you’re right about cas and TWOK with the ta’al through the glass, but also ‘this simple feeling’ and the hand hold would make him feel crazy. bones being the one that spock entrusts with his katra DEF makes dean feel some type of way because as much as destiel is kirkspock-coded, dean IS bones, and seeing spock trust bones so completely despite how at odds they were when they first knew eachother would dig deep into dean’s psyche and make him more than a little bit nutso. the movies are way too long for jack so he mostly sits and plays animal crossing while they watch and looks at the screen when everyone else gasps or when something exciting is happening that holds his attention for a while. sam’s fave is nemesis precisely because it’s terrible and he loves how camp it is.

dean has definitely seen all of trek. i refuse to believe someone who watches as much tv and films as dean wouldn’t sit and watch the whole shebang. i think he’s probably seen TOS and the TOS movies more than the others because its easier than sitting through 7 seasons, but i think rather than that being his favourite he’d just have really strong opinions about the best episodes of each one? like if you asked him what his favourite is he’d say you can’t answer that because they’re all so different from eachother

VOY - bride of chaotica, non seqitur, macrocosm for the favourite episodes. seven, janeway and tuvok would be his favourite characters. he think toms a bit of a knob but also feels a kinship with him for the similar brand of bab dad-ism but he wouldn’t be able to put that into words. he’s also a fierce defender of threshold being a good episode (he’s right for that)

DS9 - our man bashir it’s our man bashir. he doesn’t dislike ds9 but its very plot heavy and he didn’t care for it when he was younger. rewatching it after living through multiple supernatural wars he’d probably appreciate it more. i know for a fact he cries every time there’s an episode about sisko being a good dad. jadzia and garak are his faves

TNG - he LOVES q. he also absolutely will not be caught dead referencing how much loves q after cas comes into his life because sam will do the little brotherly knowing eyebrow raise at him and he will die of embarrassment. he regularly references ‘there are four lights’ because he’s a fucking nerd. he has made cas watch elementary my dear data and fistful of datas a half dozen times each at LEAST. cas KNEW how dean was going to be about the cowboy hat he’s defintiely got into full cowboy getup at home just for watching movies and in cas’ head star trek is fully to blame.

TOS - oh there are so many good TOS eps to choose from. obv he loves most of the series becuase TOS has MANY banger eps, his favourites are probably like. mirror mirror, amok time (baby dean defintiely had some kind of crisis watching it for the first time; i know the rituals are intricate). i know deep in my bones that dean watched the conscience of the king (introduction of the tarsus iv massacre) once and then spent his entire teenage years writing fic about that in his head, whether he posted it or not. dean related too much to those experiences of shared hunger. city on the edge of forever is one of everyone’s faves for a reason (and i’m STILL mad we never got a closer take on that episode in spn it could have been so fun). 

ENT - he definitely thinks enterprise is stupid and he’s not wrong but he has also definitely watched it and been very repressed about the whole thing. mans was like oh i feel a kinship with malcolm reed the obviously repressed queer man. i will never examine this feeling ever again thank you <3 he also makes fun of archer for being obsessed with, of all sports, water polo. shran is his favourite character because he’s a little shit and makes him laugh, and t’pol, because t’pol is a badass and he’d appreciate that. i can’t remember the title of a single episode off the top of my head though lol.

i can see what you’re saying about sam being a TNG stan. i’m conflicted though, I feel like TNG’s generally the favourite of 1) obnoxious nerds who think knowing trivia facts makes them smart, 2) men desperately trying to seem masculine and 3) people who’ve watched it three times and have extremely complex thoughts on the personhood and rights of robots. i could see sam fitting into the third group, but people who are in it for the robot feelings are a coin flip between voyager and tng being the fave, and i just have a feeling that voyager would be his favourite. i know kid sam is getting gender envy watching voyager in shitty motels while dad and dean are out, trying to find the words for it. his first semester at stanford he talks a friend into giving him the janeway haircut and rides that high for months. sam’s favourite characters are seven and EMH. 

sam and dean have definitely had dozens of long drawn out debates about philosophical topics in star trek. do the holograms deserve rights and if so which ones. are the romulans and vulcans still meaningfully the same people. was spock right for trying to foment reunification by going undercover on romulus. can the borg be redeemed. etc etc.

i haven’t seen any of picard at all so i can’t comment. i also think sam and dean probably read a lot of the trek books? they’re pretty common to find in secondhand bookstores and cheap, would have been even cheaper back in the day. sam probably doesn’t care for them much, dean has a few solid faves though. i’ve only read the disco books so i can’t comment anything specifically (besides the fact that i think dean read dead endless and cried like a baby), but some of the TOS and DS9 books are gay as hell and i know dean was eyes emoji-ing that shit.
