My flock has contracted Marek's Disease.
Since 2019, after I brought home Lyra and Wren, my flock has been a closed flock. Meaning I take biosecurity very seriously, and opted to not bring any new chickens in or allow other poultry-keepers access to the yard where they are kept. The only birds that were added from 2019 until now have been from hatching eggs. There are a select few diseases that can pass from mother to egg, but not Marek's.
But within the past few weeks one chicken displayed symptoms of leg weakness and became unable to walk. I brought them indoors and started treating for vitamin deficiency, since that is by far the most common cause of sudden lameness in poultry. But she didn't get better, and then Lyra started walking unsteadily, and I knew something else was wrong. I suspected something was wrong with my feed and sent off a sample to get tested for mycotoxins, and switched feeds, because I know a lot of people have had issues with that lately. But then one morning I found Moss deceased in the coop, and it all kind of went downhill from there.
Sebrights are known for having extremely low resistance to disease. They are very inbred. It is the reason I lost Kip to fowl pox when everyone else recovered fine. And why all but one (her unnamed cockerel "emo" son) of the members of my flock who are descended from Lyra are affected. But none of the other tiny breeds I have, Seramas or Kikirkis, are known for being particularly disease resistant either. So. I am extremely cautious at jumping the gun and saying they wont be effected.
I sent off Moss's body for a necropsy on monday and got the results today, September 29th.
Tumblr media
I do not know how this got into my flock. Our nextdoor neighbor got chickens a few months ago, but our birds don't have any direct contact. That is the only way I can think of.
There is a vaccine but it can only be administered to day old chicks. Vaccinating to prevent this was not an option.
It generally takes 4-10 weeks for the disease to develop after the chicken has been exposed, so it had to have been fairly recent. My flock has not been carrying this sub-clinically.
I genuinely don't know how this is going to go from here. There is no treatment for marek's disease. It is a virus. I have ordered a few herbal remedies with vague studies to back up some kind of efficacy helping reduce the damage the virus does and boost their immunity, but its mostly a crapshoot. The only good news I have with all this is that older birds are somewhat less likely to succumb to this disease. And the fact turkies and pigeons can't contract it.
The only birds displaying symptoms right now are Lyra, and Moss's unnamed pullet daughter.
Lyra is tentatively okay. I have crafted a sling for her, and she has been increasing in mobility over the last few days. She did not ever have full paralysis, so I am hopeful. Her daughter and Mouse, one of the younger keep-back pullets from this summers chicks, are the only casualties so far.
I'll be doing all that I can in terms of supportive care, but if any symptomatic birds get to the point I don't think they will recover from I will be euthanizing them. I will not be selling chickens anymore.
This disease has been a nightmare of mine for such a long time and now it is really happening. I am pretty crushed.

There is more COVID-19 transmission today (January 2024) than during 94.7% of the pandemic.
💉 Please get the updated (new, not a booster) Covid vaccine. If you're in the US, ask your local pharmacy about the Bridge Access Program for free vaccines. You can also search vaccines.gov then select Bridge Access Program participant.
If you do not want an mRNA vaccine for whatever reason, consider Novavax: it is protein-based like other typical vaccines from the last few decades, and many (including myself) report minimal side effects. Talk to your doctor if you have questions or concerns.
😷 Wear a mask in public and/or any enclosed areas. "Mask" means a respirator of KN95/N95 filtration or higher, not a cloth or surgical (blue) mask. Covid is airborne, so an airtight seal and particulate filter is necessary for protection. Different kinds of respirators are used for everything from toxic fumes to asbestos removal; when worn properly, they greatly reduce risk.
Here is a guide for proper use and fitting of a respiratory mask.
Here is a short video by 3M (respirator manufacturer) on the importance of fit-testing.
🧪 Have tests ready. With the new variants it can sometimes take 5-8 days to test positive, so be sure to test twice, 48 hours apart. If you're in the US, you can get 4 free rapid tests sent to your home through USPS. Local schools and libraries also may have free rapid tests. If you qualify for the Test to Treat program, you can receive free at-home NAAT tests and treatment for both flu AND Covid, and access to telehealth. The earlier you test positive, the more likely you will be eligible for treatment with Paxlovid.
🔁 If you can afford it, air purifiers and HEPA filters can help reduce transmission. Making a Corsi-Rosenthal box is simple and inexpensive. If weather permits, keeping windows open helps. Ventilation allows fresh air to circulate.
👃 Nasal sprays and CPC mouthwash are other useful prophylactic measures when used in conjunction with PPE and other modes of mitigation like masking and distancing.
🚬There is still a risk of Covid when outside, similar to exposure from secondhand smoke or a fire. Since Covid is spread through aerosols, it can hang in the air like smoke.
🐶 As with other coronaviruses, many household pets can get Covid. If you have been exposed, avoid contact with animals.
"But I'm not old or weak. Why should I care?"
☣ Covid can still kill you or disable you for life, even if your initial sickness is "mild". Even if you are young and have no preexisting conditions. 90% of the original "long haulers" had "mild" cases.
🩺 Covid increases your risk of stroke, blood clots, and heart disease by 2 to 5 times within a year of infection. It can also cause brain damage, which is part of the loss of taste and smell and cognitive symptoms like brain fog.
🩸 Covid is able to infect multiple organ systems because it travels through the bloodstream and attacks the mitochondria, leading to dysfunction and chronic fatigue.
⚠ Reinfection doesn't make your body better at fighting Covid; it just does more damage to your immune system, akin to HIV. A damaged immune system is worse at fighting off illness, more susceptible to infection, and can lead to serious complications like pneumonia. And with every reinfection, your chances of developing Long Covid increase. Therefore, the best protection for your immune system is to avoid getting Covid as much as possible.
I know everyone is tired of this. But if there was any time to be vigilant, it is now. Please, let's protect each other.

YANDERE SHIGARAKI X READER! ♡
Tumblr media
♡ HEADCANONS ♡
Yandere Shigaraki Tomura Headcanons: Pre/Post Glow Up☆彡
Danger level: 8/10 pre and 4/10 post glow up!
SFW:
He’d taken you long before he underwent his transformation with All for One.
You’d been captured and imprisoned long ago, under the sadistic hand of a very nihilistic and childish sadist.
Why? You had a quirk resistant to his, is what initially caught his interest. Though, how could he not want you, after finding out exactly who you are? How could he just let you continue your day to day oblivious to him? Was he being left behind again by the world?
He was volatile in the beginning. Your own panic and fear would fuel his rage and outbursts. He didn’t want to hurt you, per-say, but bruising and damage were sustained on his worse days. Psychological damage ensures with it all too. He’s unhinged even on good day, and his affections can be warped and twisted.
Once you’d finally accepted and figured out you were never leaving him, let alone able to even lift a finger to fight him despite being immune to his quirk, you fell into a decent routine. Wake up around noon, when he rose. Wash up, if he allowed it. Eat, if he remembered to give you food, or find some snacks laying around. Watch him play video games or join him, if he lets you. Repeat.
He’s absolute garbage at first with you. He hardly cares for himself, let alone another person. He takes pleasure in depriving you of luxuries (soap is not a luxury but you can’t argue that with him) at first. It’s amusing degrading and humiliating you too.
He’ll put a collar on you, maybe even dress you up like a pet or in a maid costume. He’s a young lunatic overstimulated and underwhelmed all at once, he’s honestly not even intentionally trying to be cruel. He just is.
A changing point in the relationship is actually due to the League. When he begins valuing his members, he begins maturing. This translates to you too thankfully. The longer and better behaved you are, and ironically the more loving you become (touch starved) he’ll begin to reciprocate.
Don’t think he’ll ever apologize though. He won’t. He doesn’t even feel guilty either. Just be grateful he’s being better to you.
Your time with him will improve gradually and then rapidly. It’ll be a shock to your system the night and day treatment. He’ll go from shoving your face into the dirty carpet with his boot on your head, to cradling you to his chest because you woke up from a nightmare crying (a nightmare or memory of him?).
Ironically, he nearly does come close to killing you due to All for One. As Tomura fights for control, he nearly slips and strangles you to death.
It flipped a switch for him, to realize he might lose you for real. Not like a video game end, but to never feel your soft skin or smell you or hear your voice.
He’s sobbing, holding you and wanting to push you away all at once afterward. He’ll be calling a doctor immediately, getting you looked after in front of the League and everything. They won’t be too shocked, knowing of your presence, but the terror they see on Tomura’s face at your pain and fear.
He feels sick to his stomach when you look at him in fear after that. Explaining it wasn’t him that wanted to hurt you ever, is a hard thing to sell, when just months prior he’d fractured your wrist.
Actually puts in work and care now. Towards your comfort and happiness. Filling the area he makes for you with all that makes you happy, plushies, books, games, Tv, painting supplies. Don’t go crazy though, he’s still a deranged mass murderer, he’s got boundaries still.
He begins valuing your opinion. Asking you questions. Treating you like an equal, ironic considering your prior position in his mind.
To you, post merged Tomura is 100% better than he was before. Be grateful he’s changed for the better, because now he’s even stronger and more powerful, more confident and sure of himself and what he wants.
NSFW: THIS IS REALLY DARK AT FIRST SO YOU HAVE LITERALLY BEEN WARNED
He gives little to no fucks when he first imprisons you. You aren’t even really a human in his eyes, more like a whiny pathetic doll for him to use. It’s your fault in the first place, your quirk allows him full access to touch without worry of destroying you. He destroys you anyway, but you fortunately or unfortunately live.
Sex is painful and selfish with Tomura in the beginning, he’s a virgin when he takes you, but he’s got plenty of internet porn and knowledge to use. He does EVERYTHING. You don’t like it? Who fucking asked, certainly not him. He’ll tie you to his bed and leave you there ALL day for him to fuck and cum inside and go back to his games when he’s finished. Do you cum? Not at first.
Your pleasure or needs are worthless, and he even begins to take pleasure in how little you receive. He enjoys depriving you of everything that could possibly bring you joy. So edging and then leaving you high and dry, achy and used holes dripping with his cum, is his favorite activity. He’ll make you sleep on the floor after too, chain hooked to your collar so you stay right where he’s tied you up. You’re nothing better than a dog to him, a useless cumslut he can fill and throw away. “Stop fucking crying! I’ll give you something to cry about, how about that bitch?” He’s not above hitting you either, slapping you across the face, bruising your cheeks in a death grip. He inwardly LOVES any touch, and if it’s violent and terrifying? At least you’re alive. He’s been merciful enough to you already. Never mind the nausea he feels afterward, the way he breaks into a cold sweat watching what his treatment is slowly but surely doing to you.
He just wants your wet warm hole wrapped around him. Whether it’s your cunt or your ass or your mouth, as long as he’s fucking you. He’s violent and cruel, both his actions and words. They leave you reeling and begging. In fact, a turning point happens when you say something that has him going soft immediately. You’ll be especially sensitive and sore, abused too much too recently to take another rough session but he’s had a bad day and will be taking it out on you. Broken and bloody, he’ll still fuck your unprepared cunt/ass, laughing and finding his usual enjoyment as he drags it out sadistically. Spitting into your mouth before smacking you as you cough and choke. He’s a monster. And you snap too. “Please… please…” He’ll be grunting and moaning as he pistons his hips into you, chuckling as you beg and sob beneath him. “That’s it slut, beg for my cum. Beg me to fill you up! Who fucking owns you, huh? Answer!” You’ll be delirious, lack of sleep, nutrition, comfort of any kind, and the pain and fear compiling up. You’ll beg for something else as he fucks you, “please let me die… please kill me.. please… I want to die… please…” He’ll stop dead in his tracks and freeze up. It’ll knock the air out of his lungs. He’ll feel nauseous and maybe even have to leave to vomit but all the same he’ll be forced to come back to your chained limp figure on the bed in a state he never really noticed before.
He’d broken you, is the realization he’ll come to. Your body pathetically laid out how he liked, but your state near dead already. It’ll make him psychotic, more than he already is, when all he can see now is the abuse he’s experienced laid out before him. He’ll feel like his father, like worse than the villain he is. He’s never felt guilt like this before. Not even the guilt he feels towards his mother can add up to this. He’ll panic and leave you there all night.
When he comes back, seeing you just how he left you, broken, it’ll flip a switch.
He’ll untie/unchain you. He’ll be silent the entire time, taking you into the bathroom and cleaning you up. Probably the first bath you’ve had in weeks. He’ll be gentle too. So damn gentle. It’ll also be an odd moment for him as he cares for you for the first time. First aid is given, he’s checking your injuries in depth now and trying to bite back the apology that wants to spill out. He’s not sorry for taking and fucking you- he’s sorry you’re like this now. Limp and nearly lifeless, unresponsive except to flinch at every tough.
You’ll sleep in a clean bed that night, if only because the blood on the sheets makes him want to vomit. It’s your blood he drew. He’ll hold you, not fuck you, and just sit in the new silence. No more screaming or crying, no more yelling and cursing. It’s quiet.
It stays quiet too. You’re so subdued it’s difficult for him to grasp sometimes. He missed your noisy whimpers now. Your cute little sniffles. You’ll be getting the most physical and soft contact, sat in his lap wrapped in a blanket while he absentmindedly games.
The League will take him away longer now. He’ll be gone for extended periods of time. It worries him deeply when he does return to you perfectly where he left you. Silent. Like a real living doll now. It stresses him, more than he cares to admit. He can’t bring the anger or familiar outbursts out though. Your dull eyes leave him feeling helpless. He hates it. Hates you. Hates himself the most, for doing this to you.
He’ll undergo his transformation and nearly end your life because of his struggle with All for One. His master knows the depth of his care for you now, and he’s determined to take that away. Dragging you from your sleep with hands around your throat squeezing the life from you. You’d begged to die before, but the will to live is stronger than you’d thought as you struggle and plead with your eyes. You didn’t want to die. He’s been so kind lately. You were feeling better.
He’ll get close to killing you, barely able to stop before he snaps your neck. He’ll be sobbing over your unconscious body, finally regaining control. Cradling you to his chest as you hang on a thread in his arms. The League gets to see you for the first time as a doctor comes and treats you, or someone with a healing quirk.
Toga is actually a crucial tool to your survival. She’s instantly smitten with your broken spirit, and she’s determined to help you trust the Boss and love him. She’s not on your side, make no mistakes, but she’s a friend you’ll be grateful for nonetheless.
It takes a while, but eventually you do come around. You willingly lean into his touch now. You hug him back. You kiss him. The initiated intimacy Toga’s idea. You were originally too scared of pissing him off. Instead, he’s even more gentle and sweet to you. The more affectionate you are, the more he reciprocates in kind.
He’s still a violent man, capable and wanting of endless destruction, but he’s soft with you. Delicate touches. Almost as if he’s afraid of breaking what little is left of you, but if you push him a little with sweet words and praise, his face will be buried in your pussy.
When he cares about your pleasure, he cares about it. He’s tearing orgasms from you in rapid succession. You’ll cry for all new reasons now. Begging to have a little break, which he’ll give. He’ll hold you in his arms as he kisses you, your face, your neck. Whispering in your ear, “Such a good girl, you came so much, you think you can handle a little more for me?” and foolishly you’ll fall for it. Fall for him. It’s deranged and unhealthy, but you’ll be so far gone off the edge that it hardly matters.
He’s so sweet with you, opening your hole for him with his fingers. Driving you wild and delirious as you beg for his cock. His much larger cock than you remembered, but with how wet you are and how kind he’s being, it’s incredible being stretched out on it. He’ll rock into you slow and deep, maybe even pull you up into his lap and hold you to his chest while immobilizing you to fuck how he likes. You’ll like it too, you won’t be able to cover your mouth or quiet the noises you make as he hisses in your ear to cum. He’ll fill you up as much as you’d like. He’ll clean you up after, bathe you, eat some snacks with you, play video games with you, cuddle you. His aftercare gets better with time. He’ll listen if you tell him what you like.
Tell him you love him, he’ll really give you the world. Put your hands on his face, and kiss everywhere you can, while telling him how perfect he is, how much you adore him, how you can’t live without him. He’ll give you whatever you want, as long as it isn’t away from him, it’s yours.
You go from prisoner to queen pretty much overnight.
Your throne is his lap though. Be good, his punishments still exist, they’re just different. He won’t hit your face, but turning your sweet ass red isn’t beneath him.

just you — steve harrington
Tumblr media
summary: you and steve shared a kiss at a party, and it was supposed to be just that: a meaningless kiss. but now that you've got a date, steve is starting to see things a bit clearer... prompt: "tell me what you want" "you" ♥
“Steve?” you say, unable to hide your bewilderment.
It's getting late and you have a date. Not with Steve Harrington, of course. But still, Steve Harrington is the one standing outside your door, looking as handsome as ever — bright eyes, dark jeans, perfect hair. It's some kind of punishment, it must be.
“Hi,” he says. "Can I come in?"
He looks nervous. On autopilot, you step to the side so he can come in and ask, “Is everything okay?” and, because it's Hawkins, you add, "Did something happen?"
Something equals problems from other dimensions, monsters, gates, planets in need of saving — the usual.
You close the door and Steve holds up both hands, a placating gesture. "No, no! It's okay- I mean…”
Your heart starts to race again. "Are the kids-"
"They're fine! That's not it."
About a week ago, you'd kissed Steve Harrington. It happened at a party — a stupid game, a couple of drinks, some unresolved feelings on your part…the damage was done.
You're thinking about it now because even though you both agreed to forget about the kiss, after that unexpected event all the silences shared with him took on a whole new meaning. It's an eternal 'is he thinking about the kiss?', 'did he like the kiss?' and the usual: 'did he regret the kiss?'.
“You look beautiful.”
You look at Steve and all you can think about is how your expression must look really, really silly right now — somewhere between embarrassment and nervousness, your inner teenager saying hello, I'm still not immune to Steve Harrington as much as I like to pretend I am.
He's looking at you as well, and your find comfort in the fact that he looks nervous too — you're dressed up for a date: you've chosen your best dress, your best jewelry, your best shoes. Steve has never seen you so lovely.
“I mean, you always look beautiful but-” he continues, scratching the back of his head, speaking very fast, “b-but tonight you're just, uh…stunning. Honestly.”
You bring your hand to the pendant around your neck and squeeze it lightly, lips parted in surprise, words a mess inside your mind and oh my God, here comes the awkward silence.
“Thanks.”
Thanks?
You try again. “You wanna tell me what you're-”
“Don’t go on that date.”
You'd sooner expect a gate to the Upside Down to open before your very eyes than this. “What?”
“I said don’t-”
“I heard you.”
“Then…please don’t go.”
Please? Is he real? Steve shouldn't be allowed to look like this and say please like that.
You fight the voice of reason in your head and try to keep your inner teenager from getting too excited with where this is going.
“Why not?” you ask.
“You know why not.”
I don't know shit, you want to say. The silence isn't even awkward now — it's overwhelming. The room seems way too tiny, Steve is too close, and you're feeling hot. And Jack could arrive at any moment —the icing on the cake.
“I- Do you-” pretty eloquent, you think, gesturing exasperatedly without even realizing it. It's a miracle you don't run your hand through your hair and ruin it entirely. “You can’t just-”
Steve wisely says nothing. He just stands there, slightly flushed, all too handsome. There's a small part of you that inexplicably wants to punch him in the face.
You sigh. “Tell me what you want,” you manage.
Steve responds as if he has the answer on the tip of his tongue, as if it's been there all along, as if it's obvious.
“You,” he whispers. There's a softness in his brown eyes, the usual gentleness, the usual affection, and you lose yourself deep enough that you don't notice the distance closing between you and him. He grows more confident, more sure of his words, his gaze never leaving yours, “You, I just want you.”
Steve takes another step and now he's close enough to touch you...so he does. He takes your face in his hands, firm but a little hesitating, testing the waters.
Your earrings dangle elegantly as you stare at him, dangerously close to short-circuiting. Steve watches as one of them taps against your cheek softly.
You could kiss him, you think. The heels you're wearing would make it so much easier. You could just lean over and...
Steve gently touches your lower lip with the pad of his thumb, eyes following the movement; a silent question. Your mind goes blank. You exhale through your mouth, lips now slightly parted. Your hands slide to his elbows, suddenly feeling the need to hold onto something as he inches closer.
Jack is a nice guy — he's always been kind to you, he's smart and very patient, handsome enough to attract a few glances now and then.
His only flaw is...he's not Steve.
And the only reason you agreed to go out with him is because you were trying to forget about Steve. Steve, Steve, Steve. It's always him. More unfair than standing Jack up would be going on a date with him for the wrong reasons.
You close the gap. To be honest, you don't think too much about what your doing; it kinda happens. And Steve certainly wasn't expecting it to happen like this either, because for a brief moment his entire body tenses up and he lets out a surprised gasp…but then he moves. You feel his smile against your mouth as he kisses you back, one hand leaving your face to move down to your lower back and bring you even closer, the kiss growing harder, more tempting, more certain.
You don't even notice you're moving until your back hits the wall and Steve presses you against it, chuckling into your mouth.
“Steve,” you gasp, the inexplicable urge to laugh suddenly washing over you. He tries to kiss you again but you're attempting to catch your breath, so you turn your head away and giggle. Steve kisses your neck instead, taking your waist into his hands. "I should call Jack," you remind him.
"Later?" he murmurs tentatively against your skin.
“It'll be just- oh. Ten minutes.”
One last kiss and he lets you go. You miss his touch right away.
But it's alright, you think. You have the entire night. Your entire lives.

D&D Vampire Lore Dump #4
Weaknesses and Cures Featuring that pesky sunlight problem, and how to get around it. Overview of other limitations and weaknesses of their condition (running water, invitations, etc) and how to get around those, vampires being extremely annoying to kill and how to make them stay dead, and the four ways I know of that can cure vampirism.
OBLIGATORY DISCLAIMER FOR FIRST TIME READERS: D&D is decades old, spans five editions, several settings and hundreds of writers. One guy establishes a piece of lore, and then the next picks it up goes "nah" and writes something else. I collected info from four different source books, all from different editions, which naturally don't entirely agree on how vampires work. Lore never stays consistent and may contradict itself. You may see information somewhere else from a source I don't have that contradicts what I wrote here. If you read this and like some of this stuff but not other bits, take the good and ditch the rest. Larian themselves have not written BG3 totally compliant with some established D&D lore or the original games. If you want canon to work a certain way in your headcanons/fanfic, go ahead.
Feeding | "Biology" | Hierarchy | Weaknesses and Cures | Psychology
Sunlight is basically instant death and will kill vampires within moments of touching their bare skin. Even if vampires can walk in sunlight, vampires can't access their abilities while the sun is still in the sky. A sunstone, if left in the sunlight to "charge" take on an energy that will rebuff vampires with an effect much like sunlight exposure (but weaker) if they attack an individual wearing/holding the gemstone. This disorients them, cuts them off from many of their powers and inflicts a small amount of damage.
There are ways that allow vampires to walk in sunlight, although their powers will be disabled during daylight hours.
Liquid Night is a vampire sunscreen that will protect the wearer from sunlight.
Clearly, going off of BG3, the Netherese had magic that could do it. (Netheril, according to one story, was an empire whose initial magical foundation was specifically the school of necromancy, under the guidance of the priests of Jergal/Withers)
Fiends are happy to take/destroy your soul in exchange for the ability to walk in the day, as the Greater Vampire creating succubi can attest.
Vampires grow more powerful with age. One of those ways used to include that they became increasingly resistant to sunlight with age, and by the time they were 1000 years old they were fully immune to it. After almost two centuries of undeath, Astarion may be strong enough to avoid immediate death and this may be why he doesn't burn to a crisp immediately when the netherbrain dies.
Necromancers can create enchanted objects that protect vampires from the sun. One example being the Cloak of Dragomir in BG2.
They can also just keep to the shade or wear clothes that provide enough shelter to keep the sunlight from touching them. A deep hood or a parasol can help.
Vampires don't usually consider such things worthwhile, as they don't see much point if they lose their powers. They generallyhave no desire to be in the sunlight for its own sake as most vampires instinctually hate sunlight.
Vampires instinctually recoil from mirrors and hesitate to step in front of them. This hesitation will typically pass in seconds or moments. In 1e they had reflections, but their reflection turned the hypnotic properties of their gaze back at them or at least, they thought it could. After that they lost the reflections, and it's thought that the absence causes an instinctual distress for the remnants of the vampire's human psyche (reminding them that they're an accursed dead thing who's lost everything).
In a similar manner to their lack of reflection, vampires also do not cast shadows upon their surroundings.
-
Vampires who don't rest in/on their dirt-bed (usually a grave or coffin, sometimes a bed with a mattress stuffed with the appropriate type of soil) are destroyed. A vampire that can't get to its sanctuary before sunrise is utterly screwed. They tend to have multiple safe havens with prepared resting places, just in case. Vampires who will be traveling sometimes use a bag of holding, essentially taking their grave with them.
Some have suggested that the dirt dependency is actually just superstition and a vampire can sleep wherever it wants, but nobody's successfully convinced a vampire to take the risk of testing that.
-
As said previously, vampires are healed by negative/necrotic energy and harmed by positive/radiant energy (including heal spells)
Holy symbols can repel them, but the specifics can vary based on source. On the one hand there's one that says that the faith and belief in the holy symbol is what gives it power, and on the other there's one that says that the symbol is only useful in the hands of a priest. Only the symbols of Good and Neutral aligned deities have repelling properties. Evil clerics can still try to Command Undead however (the evil variant of Turn Undead - instead of repelling/destroying the undead you seize control of them.)
In terms of clerics and paladins attempting to Command/Turn Undead, vampires are susceptible to it, but are also the most resistant of undead, so it's difficult and risky.
-
Vampires are repulsed by garlic - it doesn't harm them and can't keep them at bay forever, but a vampire will hesitate before approaching. Some vampires also randomly develop other "allergies". Salt, rose petals, rice, mistletoe, lilies, small children singing, dove feathers… could be anything, really. It's generally linked to the individual vampire's own personality and beliefs. If they believe it should repel them then it may have warding powers against them.
-
Vampires will dissolve in bodies of running water like rivers or the ocean, because the running water forces them to turn into mist and washes them away. However, running water's only a problem if they're immersed in it. They can fly over it (be that with the fly spell or by shapeshifting into a bat), be carried over (bodily carried by a person, or in a boat, or by bridge, whatever) or use the water walk spell and just walk across like a basilisk lizard.
They are however, blocked from crossing a body of running water over three feet wide in mist form, for some reason. There's no answer for this, but I'd guess the vampire cloud picks up water particles and grows heavier, eventually sinking onto the water or something...?
At least 3/4 of the vampire's body must be submerged for it to count as immersion - and it must include the entire torso (the heart in particular must be below the water). The vampire must be held under for three minutes. It doesn't exactly kill them, but as their body is now thousands of particles distributed through the waterways, unable to reform, the vampire is effectively gone for good.
-
Vampires are also extremely annoying to kill. They can only be damaged with enchanted weapons or weapons plated with silver.
Upon death their body turns to mist and they return to their resting place, where they reform their physical body but are rendered vulnerable. A vampire can be paralysed by piercing their heart with a wooden stake... and then, sometimes, you get the unusual ones who need to be staked with a specific wood...! Once they've returned to their coffin the body must be damaged enough to be considered destroyed. Decapitation is a favourite method, but the main point is just to inflict as much damage on them as possible. Vampires begin to regenerate once they return to their coffin, and need to be dealt with quickly, hence the stake to pin them down while you start hacking them apart. Luckily for their would-be-killers they often wake up disoriented.
-
Vampires can't enter houses, or holy sites of residence like monasteries without permission, and can't enter sanctified graveyards of religious organisations. They can't enter temples, as these count as the residences of the deity worshipped there. A guest cannot invite somebody in, the invitation must come from a permanent resident.
Unless the owner of the house is the one who extends the invite, the invite only counts as a one time offer and the vampire needs to be invited again once it leaves the premise - so you can get invited in by a child, but for the ability to come and go as they please, a vampire needs permission from the parents/guardians in charge of the family and house. An invitation taken through use of enchantment magic or just plain coercion counts as a legitimate invitation.
They can also just take a third option and find a way to kill everyone inside from afar and then just walk through the door once there's nobody left alive to own the property. Also if the building no longer exists, for whatever reason (like if it mysteriously burns down), then they don't need an invite to get to whatever's inside. Or buy the building - if the vampire legally owns the house, and the residents are their tenants, then the vampire does not need an invite.
Public areas, inns, public graveyards and non-residential buildings do not count. Vampires can come and go as they please here.
Other people's graves can also count as privately owned residence upon which the vampire cannot intrude, hilariously. The final resting place of the deceased counts as belonging to them - providing they received burial rites. Vampires can however just animate the corpse and have it leave, at which point it ceases to be a resting place and they can do what they like. It's not stated whether they can also use speak with dead to ask permission.
---
There are four ways off the top of my head to cure vampirism. Most of them aren't cheap:
Firstly is the wish spell, which can be used to cure vampirism in one of two ways:
Using the spell to rewrite reality. You force reality to bend to your will and turn the vampire into a living being. Using wish this way is extremely taxing on the caster and may harm them permanently. They will basically be bedridden for a given amount of time and there's something around a one in three chance that you'll never be able to cast the spell again.
In its 5e variant, wish can replicate the effect of any spell below 8th level (including resurrection) while ignoring all the requirements of the spell itself.
Next up is divine intervention. Deities can remove vampirism, though the extent and conditions may be limited by their portfolio.
Amaunator (the ancient Netherese sun god, precursor to Lathander) had a temple over in Amn. You have to take the vampire and the heart of the vampire who turned them to the statue of the ancient sun god in an abandoned temple, place the vampire in the arms of the statue with the heart and it completes a ritual that restores them to life. This was part of a quest in Baldur's Gate 2 where your love interest (who may have been Jaheira) was turned into a vampire and needed curing.
Eldath, a minor goddess of peace, has also been known to restore some level of mortal life to unhappy vampires.
And then resurrection spells. The time limit on resurrection exists because when calling a soul back to its body there are numerous obstacles.
The body needs to be in a state fit to go on living. If it's too damaged or decayed putting the soul back is a waste of time.
The soul must be both willing and able to return. It has to still exist, to start with. If the soul has a new life it probably can't be recovered (be that by being sent back to the material plane for reincarnation in another life, or remade as a fiend or celestial). If the soul has been absorbed by their deity or into the fabric of the planes it can't be recovered. If the soul has been destroyed then you're shit out of luck.
The longer the target has been dead, the more likely the above scenarios are true and that the spell will fail. Also restoring a body and calling a soul from across the planes is extremely powerful, taxing magic that's hard to pull off, which makes it harder to succeed. Hence the time limit.
Vampires have the advantage that their body is perfectly preserved and intact and the soul is still on the material plane, and there's an argument to be made that this makes them resurrect-able.
Greater vampires are not resurrect-able as their soul is either annihilated or has been taken to the Lower Planes and tortured until the person has been turned into one of two varieties of barely sentient blobs of rancid flesh trapped in eternal agony. Wish may still work, but it may have a 50/50 chance of failure.
There's also the elven High Magic spell Gift of Life, which as it says on the tin, restores an undead being back to life. The catch with this one is that knowledge of high magic is dying out, so finding an elven archmage who can and will cast it on you is extremely difficult and probably involves a lot of favours and proving yourself.

Siren Tower Maurice, Doise and Peddito!
The main cast is over here!
I just realized Doise's gloves should be more white but I'm too lazy to change that, just imagine they're white okay?
Tumblr media
Some info about them down here
Maurice
Peppino's older brother and a piece of shit, who constantly belittles him and calls him a disappointment. His apartment has water damage or something similar, or maybe it got destroyed, so now he temporarily lives with Peppino until his flat is repaired. (Alternative: he didn't pay rent and got kicked out, continues not to pay rent to Peppino because "we're family, you can't charge your own brother.") He's either divorced or his girlfriend left him, is only allowed to see his son once a month. It's probably for the better.
Peppino is incredibly fed up with him but he tries to endure it, until he one day snaps and probably slaps him, they end up both kicking the shit out of each other (but Peppino is stronger because i said so).
Maurice invites himself to poker night and other activities Pep and the others do after work times, then complains that he's bored or something (M: "This sucks, why did you invite me?" P: "I didn't??"). He gets along a little with Mr. Stick, but only because they're both gamblers, he's somehow even more unlucky than Stick and keeps losing almost all his money. Doesn't get along with Hazel cause he doesn't take her seriously, thinks she's childish and stupid.
Doise
Goblin shark. He's basically Noise but blue. Noise hates him because he thinks Doise is imitating him, but they're just the same species of siren. He's a little more mellow and doesn't go feral as much or as easily as Noise. He throws rocks cause he doesn't know he's immune to sea urchin and puffer fish poison / venom. He can also go on land but needs water nearby.
He has heterochromia (one eye is blue, the other is purple-ish brown), and has the same "whiskers" as Noise, just turned down.
Absolutely terrified of Peddito, as he seems to always want to kill him, and has tried doing so a few times. Sometimes plays dead hoping that Peddito leaves him alone, it doesn't really work though.
Peddito
A failed clone of Peppino, made before Fakey. Pizzahead didn't like him as much because he didn't get the eyes right so he threw him out (basically the Other Eye problem, but he ended up leaving his eye sockets empty out of frustration). He can't see because of this, but he can still navigate through the water effortlessly. There's way less sea creature DNA in him, so he looks almost completely human just with a fin on his back and webbed hands. It's unclear where his vibrant coloring comes from.
He's strangely obsessed with Doise for some reason and doesn't interact with anyone cause he's just not interested in anyone else. He actually wants to be friends with Doise, but since Pizzahead designed him to be a killing machine, he doesn't know his own strength and ends up almost killing Doise several times. His "killer side" comes out every time he's near Doise, and he can sense his presence because of this.
When not near Doise, Peddito seems almost dead, he moves very little, and is unresponsive. He can't talk, neither human nor siren language, but he understands both. He doesn't swim, just floats through the water like a dead fish, despite this he's incredibly agile and fast. Would follow Doise on land, and could survive with pretty much no problems. He just slides across the floor when on land, as if he was on rails. The bottoms of his feet are always slippy, making it easier for him to move. Might leave a trail wherever he goes.
And here's your reward for reading, some doodles of various age and messiness

Also some shippy stuff hehe

SOME YANDERE FLUFF TO BRIGHTEN YOUR DAY.
// fantasy creature cruelty. yandere themes. heteronormative society (sort of?? both your paternal and maternal grandparents come in hetero pairs)
I don’t know if you guys read my yan! father fic yet but do go check out @yoru-no-seiiki for it (Unless you’re a minor cause that acc doesn’t allow those) as it happens in the same universe(ish) as this one.
So by now you’ve already met yan! father.
BUT WHAT ABOUT CUTE HIGH FANTASY YAN! GRANDPARENTS AND OLD MENTOR.
(honestly would love to see my moot’s takes on yan! grandparents so if ya’ll see this. it’s not only a sign but a call to aid plez)
mostly based off of mairimashita iruma kun’s sullivan, your YAN! PATERNAL GRANDPA and GRANDMA spoil you a shit ton.
YAN! P! GRANDPA is more on the type to spoil you physically/monetarily. If you have a need or even the slightest hint of desire for something, consider it received. He has saved so much of your drawings and if you happen to be the kid who drew monsters/weird abominations as a child then ya boi definitely has frankensteined some into being. His creations happened to net him a ton of money which he spent all on you as ‘thanks’ but everyone knows it’s just cause he’s infatuated with his cute grandchild.
YAN! P! GRANDMA leans heavily on the ‘unhealthily allowing this kid(you and yan!dad) to do whatever you want and even encouraging it’ sort of parenting. She taught how to kill and do it efficiently as a young child. Uncaring of whatever prophecies schmofeces oracles have of your future. She will make you into an indestructible machine and is hell-bent on it. … You have probably ingested a lot of poison from her cookies as a way to built immunity to the stuff.
Now your maternal grandparents are a lot let on the damaging side but are still pretty over the top.
Your YAN! MATERNAL GRANDPA loves showing off. He’s probably like a war general with many wives and sees love as ‘you worship/admire me’ which he sorta maybe passed unto you. He’s kind of like a caveman and believes a show of strength is in order to be successful. So there’s a lot of him flexing and challenging YAN! PATERNAL GRANDPARENTS to a duel.
Only for YAN! PATERNAL GRANDMA to swiftly have his ass wipe the floor.
YAN! MATERNAL GRANDMA is a jaded woman. She never loved her husband and had always wanted to flee the family and high society until you came along. I see her as the old version of those Manhwa female protags that have rebirthed multiple times and is just tired of the shitty life they’ve been dealt with. She’s incredibly knowledgeable on fashion, trends and the industry as a whole. She’ll make sure you look good at every turn. Maybe even start trends of your own. It doesn’t matter your body type and if isn’t what’s in at the moment, she’ll make it the moment. Unlike the paternal grandma and her husband, she would never put you in harms way. Even extending your time with her so you don’t have to do those barbaric acts with the others.
And then there’s YAN! MENTOR who swore to never have another child under him ever again. The last time he did that, said child (your father) destroyed his precious astrology tower and had him imprisoned for 5 years for a thing he never even did. Sure, 5 years is nothing for thousand or so year old man but boy was he pissed off.
YAN! MATERNAL GRANDPA had to threaten him to have you and YAN! MENTOR is almost thankful that he did.
YAN! MENTOR believes you to be his best student. It definitely did not start off that way. He thought that a prissy, spoiled brat like you would leave the moment he gave you a difficult task but you surprised him with your tenacity. Throughout all his trials for you, you always came out at top, if not persevered until your body couldn’t handle it anymore.
He definitely wants you to kill your dad as compensation though, and I wouldn’t be surprised if I end up writing him as the reason why you plotted to end the dude’s life.
To keep things fluffy, let’s say in this timeline, he saves you from your dad’s entourage and adopts you.
Your YAN! GRANDPARENTS definitely riot but all are mature enough to understand the situation in the end.
will write more on this on the future but for now, i gotta go! byeeee!!

Daenerys as a D&D character!!
Tumblr media
I love dnd to bits, and I spent a lot of time thinking about how certain asoiaf characters would be if they were made using dnd 5e rules. Obviously, i had to start with dany! She is a shadow magic sorcerer, with the elemental adept feat.
My long, winding thought process about dnd and dany is under the cut, in order to spare you all.
I'm kind of working with like, westeros in the forgotten realms as my base concept, since theres elements of both that are needed for this character build to make sense lol.
Sorcerer made the most sense, with how the targaryans are thought to have ancient magic, and since dany is quite charismatic, charisma would be her spellcasting stat. I think that the obvious sorcerer subclass is draconic bloodline, but i disagree, since the way dragons are portrayed in asoiaf doesn't match up with the dnd description of dragons. I could maybe see draconic bloodline sorcery for the Fire and blood characters, but for the "modern" targs, i'd honestly lean toward fire genasi (descendants from genies, with specific elemental powers) ancestry, since the immunity to fire is emphasized. Though technically dnd doesn't really work like that, i think as a character dany would be a fire genasi (though without the usual visual traits, i suppose)
since i elected against draconic bloodline, the sorcerer subclass that makes sense for daenerys is shadow magic! its maybe a bit on the creepy/edgy side, but i think aspects work well for dany's life. for starters, if you think of her gaining magic during her life, the deal she made to try and save khal drogo's life would be perfect timing for darker magic to make its home within her. however if you wanted her to have magic from birth, then the dramatic circumstances around her birth could be heightened by there having been shadowfell influences around. also!! at 6th level, shadow sorcerers can summon a "hound of ill omen" which can take any shape, and could easily be a small dragon.
The last aspect of why i chose sorcerer, is that while the spell casting sucks at lower levels, it then really gets good as you gain spell slots (limited per day and necessary to cast any spells) and sorcery points. the spell list for sorcerer is full of damage dealing spells, and dany kinda reads as a glass canon to me (i love sorcerers a lot but they are fragile). I did briefly ponder divination wizard, since daenerys seems to have an inclination toward being a dreamer, but i don't think she had time to study and practice wizardry in her chaotic childhood. whereas we see as she gains power and confidence while growing up, and sorcerer works well with that
last few details! i've portrayed her as higher level here, which is why she is so fancy. since she is upper level (in this i was thinking around 14th), she would have access to feats, and i definitely think fire elemental adept (gives bonuses to spells that do fire damage) would bring back some of the draconic aspects to her spellcasting. for metamagic options, obviously twinned spell (allows a spell that targets 1 person to be twinned to hit two people) cause its the best one, but i was also thinking subtle spell (allows a spell to be cast without speaking or moving) since it would be quite helpful for her. For other potential feats; inspiring leader (bonuses when you give speeches n stuff) and war caster (allows magic to be used better during combat) both make sense. For her stats, i was thinking in order of highest to lowest; charisma, wisdom, intelligence, constitution, dexterity, strength. Maybe i'm doing her a disservice by having her physical stats be her low ones, but i think her mental stats are just stronger.
Anyways if you actually read all this i love you and please message me any opinions you have about dnd/asoiaf

Monster!Tim Coraline AU part 2
A while back, I posted an Idea I had For a Combination of a Coraline AU and a Meta!Tim AU. It's here assuming I made the link correctly.
Well, I had more thoughts on the matter, so I'm making another post.
First off, I want to expand/clarify on how Tim's powers work.
Tim fights (or otherwise challenges) various supernatural things and gains power from defeating them.  I touched on this before and mentioned that it was because it was symbolically similar hunting and eating prey.  I would like to talk a bit more about what this entails.
Upon achieving victory, Tim takes a bit of power from the defeated opponent and incorporates it into himself.  Tim can gain abilities this way or just boost his own power level a bit.  He does not physically eat any part of his opponent.
The opponent is left a bit weaker, but does not lose abilities completely and is not permanently damaged.  They can get their power levels back up given some time.  Think of it like donating blood, they’ll be a little weak and woozy for a bit, but no lasting harm is done.  Now, I cannot stress enough that this is because of the choices Tim makes.
Tim chooses to use his powers in the gentlest way available.  He chooses not to take more than they can safely part with.  He chooses not to simply consume them completely.  He chooses to pay careful attention to how much power his opponents can afford to part with and whether or not they are in a position to weather the recovery safely.  Tim grew up looking up to Batman and Robin.  He believes in harm reduction.
That’s why the supernatural-leaning rogues fear him so much.  Their instincts are very aware that this is a predator that has simply decided not to kill them today.  He probably won’t next time either, but he could easily make a different decision at any time.  At least some of them are not entirely aware of their ties to the supernatural or why the third Robin inspires such primal existential fear.
The thing that drives Tim to keep doing these challenges is not primarily a desire for power (though some of the abilities he gains are useful), but rather because it makes the hunger more manageable for a bit.  It doesn’t stop it, but it takes the edge off for a little while.  Tim was incredibly suspicious of this at first.  He knows full well that his condition makes a point of being inconvenient and that it is easy to spiral out of control in a way that makes one dangerous to oneself or others.  He remembers how miserable the fallout of trying to eat to fullness was.  He made a careful study of the challenges and how they affected him.  He kept meticulous notes on his mental and physical state.  He also created and stuck to a very rigid schedule on how often he would allow himself to “hunt,” and made a point of not taking too much from his “prey.”
Tim starts off pretty close to a baseline human and gathers abilities over time.
When he is very young he gains improved stealth and the ability to sense secrets.  For a little while, that’s all he has, until he learns that there are other things in Gotham he can challenge.
While he was still very young he collected the ability to make his fingernails razor-sharp, the ability to climb like a goat, some minor enhanced strength (just enough to somewhat offset the disadvantage of being so tiny), partial immunity to slipperiness caused by water (from the many rain/fog/whatever spirits to be found in a city as gloomy as Gotham), increased impact resistance (don’t know what that thing was, but Tim’s not sure if he actually beat it or if it was just so high above his level that it felt safe to feed him a scrap of its power purely out of curiosity over what he might do with it), and a bite like a beartrap.
Then the Beldam incident happened.  He got a lot from dealing with the Beldam because that wasn’t an ordinary challenge (by his way of doing things).  The Beldam was too powerful, too dangerous, too impossible to contain, too sneaky, too focused on targeting vulnerable victims who won’t be missed in time for any sign to be found.  Tim had to stop her for good right then and there because he only had one shot.  Even if he survived and escaped (which wasn’t especially likely if he held back at all) she would go right on killing children.  There was no way to put the Beldam in Arkham even just until the next breakout.  No way to track the Beldam.  No way of protecting other isolated, vulnerable children without lethal force.  So Tim killed the Beldam and consumed it entirely (he has to think of the Beldam as an it, he can’t afford to do otherwise).
From defeating the Beldam, he gained a supernatural knack for fiber arts (especially spinning, weaving, and sewing), the ability to control things he makes with these skills to a certain degree, the ability to see through buttons he’s sewn on things, some slight shapeshifting, minor space-folding on the level of making his pockets a bit bigger on the inside, and illusory powers that allow him to make things seem a bit nicer/brighter/more pleasant.  He also gains a pretty huge general power boost that goes into enhancing his existing abilities.  He takes to spinning some very strong cord and keeping a few skeins on his person at all times because it’s useful for a number of things and makes a pretty good weapon, especially with his ability to manipulate it.
The shapeshifting isn’t much on it’s own, but it can combine with other abilities he’s taken on to let him make greater changes and take on forms that better support use of his powers.
After the Beldam incident, Tim’s power levels increase a good deal very quickly, allowing him to challenge and defeat stronger opponents and collect stronger abilities.  Tim continues wandering, continues fighting, continues gaining power.
(Trauma?  What Trauma?  He’s fine.  It all turned out okay in the end.  The Beldam is dead.  The souls she trapped are free.  Tim totally doesn’t have complicated feelings about killing her.  It.  Tim is fine.  Tim totally doesn’t have nightmares about an evil Batman with buttons for eyes.  You would not believe how fine he is.)
He collects some extra senses that allow him to maintain greater awareness of his surroundings.  He gains the ability to produce and maintain a very small fire (like a candle flame on a tealight) at his fingertips.  He gets quicker reflexes from something he probably wouldn’t have been able to beat prior to killing the Beldam (he had to tank an uncomfortable number of hits in that fight).
He gains the ability to find and use what he decides to call shortcuts. They’re these odd little throughways tucked into out of the way places that he can pass through and go from one place to someplace a fair distance away.   One of them is an odd little opening in a wall between a dead-end alley and a rooftop on the other side of town.  The shortcuts don’t look odd or out of place.  He mostly recognizes them by vibes.  If he had been born with this ability rather than gaining it later in life he probably wouldn’t have realized that there was anything odd about the shortcuts or that no one else could see them.
Tim goes on doing his thing, pretending he wasn’t traumatized by the Beldam, and even managing to heal a little despite his somewhat unhealthy handling of it.
Then Robin dies, and Batman loses it.  Now Batman is self-destructing and looks like he’s going to take all of Gotham down with him, the Other Gotham Nightmares are back, and Robin is fucking dead.
Tim is not okay.
Tim tries to get someone else, anyone else, to deal with the situation because a violent, out of control Batman is a pretty massive trigger for him.  No one else who seems like they might be able to do anything for Batman is willing to intervein.  Batman is getting worse.
It looks like Tim is going to have to be the one to do something about this.
When Tim eventually begins his training to be Robin, it is such a hassle learning how to fight without his powers.  Batman and Nightwing think he’s incredibly clumsy when he first starts his training and wonder just how the heck he managed to follow them undetected for so long.  Then the clumsiness clears up more quickly than they would have expected, and they are concerned that he might have had a concussion when he started training and they didn’t notice.
It’s actually because he has to re-learn how to get around without using his powers in a way that Batman and Nightwing would notice, and he’s started to forget how to account for large bulky items that aren’t tucked away in a pocket dimension.  That said, he did do it all without powers in the beginning so he’s re-learning rather than learning something new for the first time.  Also, he figures out pretty quickly that he can use the stealth he got from secret hunters and the goat-like climbing ability he got from a Jersey Devil because neither Bruce nor Dick realizes just how unusual Dick’s childhood level of ability was.
While Tim is operating as the Bats’ emotional support child, he uses his illusion powers from the Beldam to look cute, comforting, healthy, and un-concerning.  When he’s not with the Bats, he drops the illusion and just goes about his business with his actual appearance.  When he has some shit to get done far enough outside of the Bats’ sphere of influence that he can be reasonably confident he can avoid them finding out about it, he turns into something out of a scary movie.
Tumblr media
Guess who gave digital art a try? Here we have Emotional Support Tim, Regular Tim, and Cryptid Tim.
I hadn't originally planned for Cryptid Tim to be showing that much skin, but i had to spend a lot of time figuring out the anatomy before I could figure out how to dress him, and by the time I realized what I was doing, i'd put so much work into the shading on the ribcage that i didn't want to cover it completely. Tim won't actually dress like that in Cryptid form, I just worked really hard on the anatomy. I should do more art to figure out his actual Cryptid Garb.
I went the stretched out, spindly monster route for Tim's Cryptid form because his magic/condition is called "afflicted with gluttony." I know a lot of artists make monsters based on the concept of gluttony heavyset with lots of excess fat tissue, but I feel like it makes sense to have a gluttony monster look hungry, like no matter how much it's eaten it's nowhere near enough.
The gray-ish skin with darker gray hands was just because I thought it would look spooky, and redoing the hands once they were done felt like it would be a lot of work. Hands are hard. Especially with foreshortening.

Vampire world biology rambling ft. Lorelai
Vampires "live" through the interaction of necrotic energy allowing them to ambulate. For this reason, despite the common misconception, vampires do have a heartbeat, it is however extremely slow, most accurately being compared to an Agonal rhythm (around 10 BPM), purely for the sake of circulating this energy through the vehicle of blood. Since most of the vampires organs have atrophied (their digestive, reproductive and renal systems), blood circulation is purely to facilitate the energy reaching all extremities and to discourage blood pooling, and causing swelling.
Since their digestive tracts are atrophied, vampires cannot digest food, and have to get their "nutrition" through liquid means. In order to replenish their unique homeostasis, they must consume the living force of other creatures, the more intelligent creatures leading to a much better ratio of blood to potential energy. Sickness, age, lifestyle and nutrition affect the potential energy that can be found within an organism, thus vampires typically seek out younger, healthier individuals, but rarely children due to their small size. Because of this, vampires do not need to feed as regularly if they consume blood from sapient, and go several days up to weeks without feeding (Akin to reptiles).
As such, since the vampire cannot eat meat to consume the energy, they must stick to bodily fluids, the easiest and easiest to replenish being blood, but things like CFS would also work. Occasionally starving vampires eat meat in desperation, but that is a lost cause as, they are forced to regurgitate it as they cannot digest it (Like Owl pellets). This usually only happens to 'feral vampires' - so lost in their hunger they step over their inhibitions and cave into pure instinct to get *something* to fill their belly.
Another system, while not fully atrophied, but heavily impacted is the nervous system causing vampires to experience Analgesia (Lack of Pain). They can feel sensations, however they are extremely muted. To feel cold a vampire must be in extremely freezing conditions, to feel warm they must be quite close to a flame, to feel pain they must sustain heavy damage etc.etc. This has an adverse effect on the psyche, and it is quite common for vampires to experience depression upon becoming undead.
But just because their body is dead does not mean it is impervious to damage. Their regenerative properties are part to none - Vampires still have to care for their bodies just as much as mortals, as due to their lack of an immune system, while they cannot fall ill, their body can still house fungi or bacteria that promote decomposition which while not a death sentence, is a promise of a painful and gruesome future.
In the sun, vampires burn, but not akin to a thermal burn, but rather chemical burn. There is no flame, but the sizzling of flesh, due to a unique interaction of necrotic forces and sunlight. As long as there is no direct sunlight on exposed flesh, the vampire can walk in the sun, however such a feat is quite difficult as it would involve covering ever single inch of your skin, most likely outing yourself as undead -hence why most prefer to simply rest during the day. Sunlight and holy forces are the only things that can scar a vampire.
How does Lorelai deal with the above?
Lorelai is still very young as far as Vampires go, only being one for several years, so many of the psychological long term effects remain a mystery to her.
She does require regular consumption of blood but she is acutely aware that by biting her companions, she would be putting them at a disadvantage for her own...he avoids it as much as possible (Only on extremely rare occasions will she feed from the wrist - never the neck because she finds that too intimate but that's for another post). Whenever the party buys ingredients for food, they also buy Pig's blood for her - a fairly innocuous and easy to acquire ingredient. When hunting, she is given time before the animal is butchered to drink. Since she mostly drinks of animals, she has to feed much more frequently, so it's common for her to be having her 'food' along with the party for dinner nightly.
She always had a soft spot for various fruits, with mangos being her favourite, so she indulges in tiny quantities of mango juice on special occasions.
Lorelai does feel the temperature difference very acutely, as I mention before she enjoys staying in her bat form to warm up by the fire or in various people's beds due to the much smaller size of body. She is fine without the cold.
She does have a lot of issues as I went over here about Analgesia, and how it impacts how she feels pleasure as well - so she is working through that, but she misses the positive sensations of when she was alive, feeling something soft or fluffy. To hold a warm cup. She however is not one of those people that wax poetically about how even pain she misses.
In general Lorelai isn't...someone that hates being a Vampire. Ultimately she wouldn't go back. She doesn't mind being tied to the night than the day, after all, most people rest during the night and miss the things that happen there (and with Raha only needing 4 hours of sleep and Blythe not needing sleep at all, she doesn't feel lonely). She enjoys that she feels full of energy at all times, that she can't get hurt as easily, that she is free to do what she wants. Vampirism to her was...the open door to freedom, to acceptance of what she wanted to do. She'd never want to go back (even if Raha continues to search for a cure for her. Even if she doesn't take it...at least this time she can make the choice to stay a Vampire)

FFXIV Tips for Collecting All The Yokai Watch Weapons
First, the big five:
SORT YOUR INVENTORY BEFORE YOU START FATE GRINDING! You're gonna get a lot of useless enemy drops, so sort your items so you can easily find and sell them.
Spend your seals! Little by little, you're going to amass a lot of seals. Spend them on something! Buy a ton of Ventures. Or Material Containers: Even if you get a minion you already have, you can give them to friends.
Party up! Get friends; Invite complete strangers who are doing the FATES at the same time as you; Set up a Party Finder; If someone invites you to a party, ACCEPT! Just note: Even with a party, you need to get a sliver of enmity to get credit for the FATE.
YOU DO NOT HAVE TO GET GOLD MEDAL ON THE FATE TO GET A LEGENDARY MEDAL! I've gotten so many on bronze and silver ratings.
TAKE YOUR TIME! It sounds like the event is lasting until the preparation of 7.0. You don't have to get all 17 weapons in one day. Maybe do 1-2 a day. For the sake of your sanity.
MORE STUFF BELOW
-Best classes: Blue Mage (you probably see why already), Tanks (enmity grants FATE credit), healers (same as Tank, but you can also heal party members)
-Recommended Blue Mage Abilities: Any ARR Primal Spells (instant damage, securing FATE credit), any AoE spells (cooldown or otherwise, just to get some AoE damage), Goblin Punch (instant attack, giving you sneaky FATE credit), Missile (see next tip)
-Missile is a Blue Mage spell that can reduce the HP of certain enemies by 50%, including SOME (some might be immune) FATE bosses. This is extremely handy and speeds up FATEs, but FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, WAIT A SECOND! Let people do SOME DAMAGE before you rip them a new one!
-Bring healing. You never know. Healing abilities/spells, healing items, support chocobo, healing party member.
-Take note: If you have a map preference, you can just stay there and cycle between the different minions who grant you Legendary Medals there. (ie: I stayed at Western La Noscea and grinded Komasan, Komajiro, and Hovernyan back to back)
-BEST GRIND LOCATIONS:
Western La Noscea: Great teleport options, FATEs spawn RAPIDLY
Central Shroud: Crystal is in the center of the map, allows for easy teleport and travel
South Shroud: Frequent FATEs, two great teleport options
North Shroud: Same as Central Shroud
East Shroud and Middle La Noscea: Not great, but they'll be the easiest to travel for Shogunyan and USApyon
Azim Steppe: Great teleport options for Enma and Demona grinding
Dravanian Forelands: Best for Lord Anata and Zazel, cause every other HW map location is massive and a nightmare.
HAPPY GRINDING!

Theory on Fyodor's ability: Crime and Punishment
With the latest chapter, I can sort of imagine like 30 theories about what Fyodor's deal could be. Honestly, there are so many hints scattered way back from Untold Origins until now about the large-scale world-building of Bungou Stray dogs that we can imagine all sorts of possibilities for a person like Fyodor. I'll attempt to entertain one of them (this is not my only theory). In my opinion, it is clear he has a power that allows him to "endure" for long periods in one shape or another. That could be resurrection, reincarnation, regeneration, life force related power..- I guess the easiest way to describe it is an ability that helps him stick around. Right now Fyodor appears immortal, but I want to theorize on different aspects of what we know about him. These are key elements I want to focus on for my theory - they helped me narrow down certain options. I feel like the solution to the puzzle is figuring out how one ability can allow him to kill people and remain alive for long periods of time. 1. Fyodor's health, lifespan, and care for personal security: From what we've been able to gather, it seems Fyodor was alive in the 15th century, based on certain references from the latest chapter. However, there is an interesting aspect to his character: He cares very little for his physical safety - he gets intentionally captured all the time. We know this to be true from the time he got caught by PM, and there are theories he also ended up in Mersault partially because he wanted to be there. Within the latest chapter, he appears to have been captured by Bram's people on purpose once more. Furthermore, he tells Ace that he is prepared and "trained" to endure starvation.
Tumblr media
This isn't the only time he gets in harm's way - arguably the entirety of Dead Apple was him putting himself at risk. Even so, while he MAY be immortal, and he puts himself in danger of losing his life, he is very sensitive about his health. In one databook, he mentions that his number 1 weakness is specifically his weak, sickly constitution. It seems getting ill is so upsetting to him that even if he survives a difficult endeavor like getting drowned, it's something he "isn't able to afford". Fyodor mentions this when he tries to drown Sigma and Dazai. He is anemic and hates getting sick/needs to be very careful about his health, every cover is drawn to show his dark circles and pale skin, Fyodor even admires good complexions on other people because his isn't that great according to databooks. This is a huge part of his character, and whenever we see additional material about Fyodor, there is 50% chance it's about his health issues (even for DA side material, the joke was he can't do much on weekends because his doctor told him to be careful about his blood pressure, according to one bit). What could this tell us about him? Fyodor constantly complains about getting ill: if he can regenerate ultra fast, this typically wouldn't be a problem. He says getting sick would be "intolerable for him". Ultimately, in a logical setting, an immune system largely allows a person to "regenerate" and many sickly people have a reduced capacity of doing this. Fyodor being able to regenerate super fast doesn't make a ton of sense. It is perhaps possible that Fyodor can regenerate large chunks of damage, but then his body enters a state of "suspension" which is why he's sickly - however, this doesn't fully track with the rest of what his abilities can do. I believe the biggest issue with Crime and Punishment is figuring out how the same ability that can kill others also allows him to live a long life (assuming this is all one ability). To continue examining this aspect of Fyodor, the wounds on his hand from his tick of finger biting don't seem to regenerate any faster than regular?
Tumblr media
Harukawa is not overly consistent with any of this, just like most mangaka, and we don't see Fyodor biting his hands much later down the line, but there are a couple of times when it seems she's drawing him with wounds and scars on his arm.
Tumblr media
I can remember like 2-3 other panels that show a lot of mini-scars, but manga artists tend to not be consistent with this level of detail. Hands are hard to draw af.
2. Bleeding I am pretty sure Fyodor's ability has to do with blood. I always theorized that he murders people by sacrificing some of his own blood, leading him to be anemic - there is very specific bleeding imagery whenever he kills people, and they usually die from bleeding out. I thought that was his "punishment" for committing a crime.
Tumblr media
How would this work into immortality? In Christianity, life is heavily related to blood. You'll hear phrases like "Blood of the covenant", "blood of a lamb", and "sacrificial blood". Every person he kills "bleeds" out, yet he is anemic? Seems too random for it to be unrelated. So, what do we know? 1) He was alive in one way or shape in the 15th century, those are his memories, implying he, as a soul, has existed for over 600 years. He is long-lived. 2) Fyodor appears to be relatively unconcerned with dying, but appears to be worried about getting sick? 3) Fyodor himself says that being ill is his biggest weakness. It's canon he is anemic, and his health never gets better. 4) His scar from getting slashed by Bram healed since then, since there is no scar right now.
Tumblr media
5) The wounds on his fingers don't heal super fast, meaning he likely doesn't have hyper regeneration. Being so sickly implies he doesn't have pure regeneration as well (from a logical point of view, but I suppose in a fictional setting it could make sense depending on how sensitive Asagiri is to detail). If he had regeneration, even to a baseline of his regular sickly self, he wouldn't say getting sick was "intolerable" for him, in my opinion. Fyodor isn't dramatic to complain about shit that doesn't get to him - he's alright with starvation and getting beaten. This sounds like he's afraid of more permanent damage (as an immune-compromised person, I can relate) If he got much sicker, he'd return to his old self eventually if he could regenerate, and he wouldn't have to worry that much. It is more likely he has something like complete resurrection from a state of being dead, rather than being able to regenerate over time. That follows what we already know. 6) His ability is connected to blood - making others bleed, and he himself being anemic. Blood in Christianity is associated with life. Does he have some form of life force manipulation? How does all of this come together? He is old af - meaning there is something up there. How could the above connect with immortality? A super sickly immortal? Why is he so sickly if he could regenerate? How would the same power that helps him live long also help him kill people?
I think it's possible that whatever he does with his abilities wears him out, and he has to change to another body eventually. Possibilities: 1) Killing people makes him sacrifice blood, so he gets sicker, until he dies. 2) Whenever he dies, it takes him a while to come back, so he can't afford to get sick and miss out on plans. However, if he has to die, it's still not a big deal if the reward is worth it, especially since he can come back, and others cannot. 3) Purely dying and reviving is easier than just switching to another body from sickly decay. The guy seems to panic more about getting sick than getting killed. Meaning he possibly has "periods" between resurrection/reincarnation/reviving. Perhaps he needs to die to revive into full health.
I guess it's possible that Fyodor's ability is related to life force itself? But how does that relate to the Crime and Punishment aspect?
Right now, I'd like to theorize that Fyodor's ability is essentially to "possess" people like a demon. Stay with me here. I'll try to explain what I mean by this: Fyodor can "possess" bodies. If he possesses them the right way, he takes over them and "rewrites them" to become him, including the physical appearance, which is why he looks the same throughout centuries. If he possesses them "wrongly", they die. The "crime/sin" is taking the body of another person - this is a profound violation in many religious teachings. "Possession" is a sin. Being able to possess bodies is one of the main trademarks of a Demon, which is how Fyodor is always nicknamed. Before he dies, he can change bodies.
I guess the easiest theory for me to imagine is that Fyodor is just a consciousness at this point, and he needs to "possess" bodies to keep living. Every single body he possesses occasionally wears down (this is the "punishment" part of his power), and he needs to keep finding new ones to keep living. Killing people wears down his current body even faster. Every time Fyodor "possesses" a new person he completely returns to his "baseline" form, and that is why he has no "old" scars from the 15th century. I assume finding a good body to possess may be more difficult, so that is why he avoids wearing down the current body with his power. Perhaps he starts killing his current host to possess another? And that is why he starts losing blood, making him anemic. The trick is that he doesn't finish the process. The reason Sigma was "brought into the world" was for Fyodor to have another "clean" body to possess. Asagiri even mentioned that Sigma was created in relation to specifically Fyodor's color pattern. Additionally, Asagiri told us to pay attention to "Chekhov's gun" cliffhangers, and this is one of the elements of the story we never got a resolution for - why was Sigma brought into this world, and why was he specifically made in relation to Fyodor's character? Having a body created by the Book, as a clean slate, may be perfect for Fyodor. Perhaps he cannot fully recover anymore from his broken health, even when he "reforms" after possessing someone, and that is why getting sick is worse for him than death - every time he "possesses someone" and takes their body, his body recovers less and less. Now, I want to elaborate on this. Why did Crime and Punishment not attack Fyodor in the mist? I guess one possibility is that Fyodor is a sentient ability. An ability that keeps possessing people.
Tumblr media
Fyodor's ability won't attack him, because it is the consciousness controlling the body. "Crime and Punishment are close acquaintances, the borders between us vanish"
Tumblr media
His fake speech to Sigma might be based on "half-truths" I have a theory that Fyodor's power ultimately synthesized with his real personality and became one indistinguishable whole. "The borders between us vanish" could possibly be a reference of the border between him and his power disappearing and leaving him corrupted. In my opinion, this would also explain why Fyodor wants to get rid of abilities - he wants to remove this curse from himself. While the ability may have conjoined with the real Fyodor, it still may be lost in how to act, and the real him continues being the root of all his desires. Dostoevsky's character was based on a chapter from Brother Karamazov where Vanya talks with the Devil - I feel like this is a huge hint to his character and the possible "possessive" part of his ability. Did human Fyodor summon a devil and had it become his power? Are abilities demons? Honestly, there are so many ways to interpret what we're seeing in BSD at the moment. I find it interesting that Fyodor wanted to see Bram and his "evil"
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tumblr media
I think Fyodor may be fascinated with the existence of "good" and "evil" as equals - and is possibly fascinated by why "someone like him" exists. Why would God create an ultimately "evil" ability? And what about others who were born with evil powers such as Bram? They are just like Fyodor, which is why he relates to him. I feel like there is a lot of discussion to be had about the possible origins of abilities - the religious imagery, decay of angel themes, Nephilim theories, but I will leave this for another post. Also, I could write pages about Fyodor's ability, backstory and how it may be influencing his world view. I sort of have two theories in my head: Fyodor is a demon, or Fyodor is a human who was influenced by his "demonic" ability. I wrote this in a rush, so it's not well thought out at all, just a bunch of rambling, so thanks for reading again <333

Ok @moosemonstrous here we fuckin go.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
OK SO. I apologize if it comes off more Evangellion than Pacific Rim but I thought that making The Charger more slender would help to differentiate it and allow for a focus on agility (also helps it to look more skeletal and unsettling).
The Charger is built in layers. An outer layer that constitutes the armor, a thinner covering, metal scaffolding, secondary thin covering, and then finally the essential wiring that makes the 'nervous system' of the Jaeger. Most of the damage (corruption scars, nicks, paint chipping) is just cosmetic, and the structural nature of the Jaeger is intact.
HOWEVER. The same can not be said of the reactor core. At some point (maybe during Eli's death?) corruption made its way behind the main fans of the outer engine and into the main reactor that powers the Jaeger. In theory this should lead to a catastrophic failure, but in this instance Im thinking there was a chemical reaction that essentially stabilized the corrosive nature of the Corruption (were gonna circle back to that).
Tumblr media
For the most part my version of Robbies suit is fairly standard. I added an orange tint to his helmet screen for flavor because hey. Why not.
The spine of the suit is probably newly integrated to allow for an updated interface, I imagine theres at least a little development in the technology between the time Eli dies and Robbie comes into play. That would make the suit a weird mishmash of past and new technology which could be VERY fun.
Also I LOVED the white accents @cicada-candy added for their design but I didn't want to steal ideas so I just added it in my own places. Your art fucks severely bro I just wanted to make sure and let you know that <3
Tumblr media
TIME FOR MY FAVORITE PART: SPECULATION ABOUT THE CORRUPTION AND ITS THEORETICAL GENETIC EFFECTS IN DOSES ON A SUBJECT!!!!!! (AKA self indulgence part 2 electric boogaloo)
I believe you mentioned the Corruption being a Neurotoxin which would be Very fun and VERY cool but I also have a suggestion. Mainly because you also referenced an increase in Robbies strength, as well as another person who got fuckin deaded shortly after.
A rapid growth in muscle density to allow for this strength would be very interesting, but why would the Corruption cause that? Simple answer; it isn't. At least not intentionally. Whats actually happening is a kind of nerve damage that changes the brains regulation of muscular exertion. Our brains really only let us use a certain percentage of our real strength, because if we just let loose and used it all we would cause significant physical damage to ourselves. Like. ripping your own tendons free from their anchors. you could break your own bones. you would die SO fast bro.
Now it is POSSIBLE to access this strength in situations of extreme stress and thats how you get people lifting cars off of loved ones, but this does still cause damage. It also gets more complicated when you consider Fast Twitch muscle reactions but for the sake of simplicity: You Would Die.
So a release of cortisol and other stress hormones, combined with a lessened ability to control strength. This means they would be USING that strength A LOT against ANYONE AND EVERYONE. But maintaining this sort of metabolism is not reasonable. Someone suffering from Corruption would likely also suffer from Hypoglycemia fatally. So extremely strong, extremely scared, and extremely short lived is the kind of deal we would be talking about here.
SO. Having said ALL OF THAT. WHAT IS ROBBIES DEAL. Well heres my proposal: The Corruption is a virus that causes neurodegenerative disease.
If Robbie was exposed to very small amounts of it as a child, it's possible it was inactive or defective, which would have allowed for an immunization point. Its also highly possible that this is a virus that can not survive (well i say survive very lightly. theres significant debate as to wether viruses are actually alive at all but I digress) outside its usual area AKA Inside a demon. He could have been exposed through contaminated water, direct contact, maybe even breathing burned version through the air. Either way, he came into contact with a weakened version of the virus and it helps him later on.
As he comes into DIRECT contact with Corruption via plugging into The Charger this is when we would start to see some more interesting effects. This Corruption would still be different though because of the aforementioned stabilizing chemical reaction in the reactor. Also, because I think Eli's DNA would be integrated into it. This provides Robbie with genetic compatibility for the virus to jump off of. Remember, viruses don't want to kill a host, they just want to reproduce as much as possible (which does end up killing a host but still). And a fun fact about viruses is that we never actually get rid of them, we just get rid of the symptoms. Once you have it its in you forever.
SO. 1. Immune response from Robbies body begins to cause the nervous damage that would allow for his rapid increase in strength. 2.Immune system recognizes the genetic material is familiar (Eli doing something good even inadvertently I guess). 3. Immune system neutralizes the virus and incorporates it into Robbies genetic coding. All good right? Happy ending? WRONG.
BECAUSE WHEN THERE ARE COPYING ERRORS IN YOUR DNA (SOMETIMES FROM VIRUSES) WHAT DO WE CALL IT?? DING DING DING 10 POINTS TO THE MUTUAL THAT SAID ✨MUTATION✨
This virus still carries genetic material from demons, this would also be getting integrated into Robbies DNA. Places like his spine which would have the most regular contact with the Corruption would probably take the brunt of these changes. It's possible that the nerve damage never truly goes away and he continuously tears and then rebuilds those muscles, resulting in overall increased strength thats technically?? stabilized?? Also I could totally see his body going 'oh shit were finally growing with decent access to fuel? BET' and just. Reactivates the growth plates in his bones ('Look! I've fixed his runt of the litter insecurity!' 'YOU FUCKED UP A PERFECTLY GOOD PILOT IS WHAT YOU DID. LOOK AT HIM. HES GOT ANXIETY ABOUT THE STATE OF HIS HUMANITY').
Oh yeah its also worth noting that this would be like. Pretty painful. We're talking constant soreness, cramps, deep aches that just won't go away. General suffering <3
Of course tapetum lucidum OF COURSE TEEF obviously as if I could go without it. You can get funky with mutations because hey. fucky wucky demon genome integration whoop whoop. Also could be interesting to see damaged areas on the Charger manifest on Robbie as damaged tissue. His skin says 'AH. Damage' and copies itself as scar tissue instead of the usual.
Oh god Ive been writing for a solid hour and a half I was supposed to be asleep a while ago ok. Moose I love this au and its making me unwell thank you for sharing with the class I hope you will consider my virus proposal for body horror purposes.

Crystalline (3)
mwIII zombies au ghoap, hurt/comfort find part 2 here ---------------------------
"Alright, Lieutenant Riley, let's see..." the nurse started, looking over the clipboard in her hand. The anticipation as a short silence settled in the room was eating away at Simon, and especially John. Poor Scot was worried more than he let on around the nurse. "From what our researchers have gathered from a sample we took off of you, these crystals seem to be a result of the infection, yet... it's not turning you into a... zombie." She paused and thought her next words out carefully, "Not that you're exactly immune, of course, you just seem to have an odd reaction to it that we haven't seen in anyone yet." Simon nodded along, understanding what she meant, but that didn't give him an idea of the future. How this was going to affect him further than it already has and if it'll, well, kill him. John seemed to get to the talking before Simon could even get his mouth open, "So what does this mean fer him? Can he still even work? Is this going to kill him? It better fuckin' no, I swear on every last one of yer goddamn scientists they better figure this shite out. I'm no letting him die on my watch." The nurse seemed to take this as calmly and professionally as she could. She let out a short breath, replying slowly, "Sergeant MacTavish, trust me they're doing everything they can to understand why he's reacted this way, but it's not easy. We barely even understand the virus itself." She sighed, glancing at her clipboard, but continued, "In the meantime, we'll have to keep him here for testing. I'm sure you understand." Even Simon himself seemed opposed to the idea of being kept in the infirmary, prodded and tested on. That much was clear from his face. He immediately protested, and so did John. They argued there was some way they could do their testing and allow Simon to stay in John's company and do his work. The nurse tried to reason, but ended up with just a compromise, knowing she won't get through to the two men. "Alright! We'll take samples and while the researchers do their tests, Riley can keep doing his work. I know you don't exactly trust us, MacTavish, so when we get results you can be here with the Lieutenant as we read them out to him." She pinched the bridge of her nose with an exasperated sigh. Gathering herself, she set the clipboard down and leaned against the table, crossing her arms and finally coming to the conclusion of this visit, "Lieutenant Riley will have to stay on bed rest as his injuries recover, the gas did some damage to his lung that need time to heal. I'll be going, but you're allowed to stay with him, Sergeant." With that she took her leave and left the two in silence. ---------------------------
I don't really like this but i needed to get something out, and sorry for being gone for so long, I was having really bad mental health issues and needed to take care of myself for a while, but here's part 3. As always, tips and suggestions are welcome. <3

lurantis or fomantis? they are my babies :3
Tumblr media
[A link to a previously published fomantis post will be at the bottom of this one :)]
I worry that I say this too much in these posts, but this one was tricky. In all honesty, the data surrounding this pokémon is often contradictory, a perhaps fitting condition considering its tricky appearance. Overall, from the best that I can tell, a lurantis would not make the best pet for many owners.
Thankfully, size isn’t an issue. It rarely is with bug pokémon like, but not exactly like, lurantises. Lurantises only appear to be a bug pokémon in order to hunt and protect themselves (Ultra Sun, Scarlet), but they sell the facade well. This protects them from predators seeking a grassy snack and tricks tasty bug pokémon to come closer to them until it’s too late. While this strange pokémon doesn’t have very extreme space needs, they are notoriously difficult to care for… somehow.
The pokédex makes it very clear that it takes a very attentive trainer to keep a lurantis healthy (Violet). The species’ beautiful floral coloration, which have given it the reputation of being one of the “most glamorous Grass Pokémon” (Ultra Moon), is a handy health indicator: a happy and healthy lurantis will have bright, vivid colors. This is said to be difficult and laborious for trainers to maintain (Sun, Violet), though some have taken up lurantis care as a hobby (which indicates that its both possible, and attention-consuming). I’m not sure, however, why it is so difficult to maintain this level of health for a lurantis. After all, due to their common ability Leaf Guard, this species is immune to conditions like poisoning as long as they are in the sun, and their many self-healing moves, it shouldn’t be that difficult to maintain their health! It’s a puzzle. Let’s just say that a lurantis is unlikely to be a good starter pet.
While they may not be particularly violent normally, aside from taking down prey, lurantises are quite dangerous. Their move pool might not be too much to worry about on the surface, their biology has provided them with some truly formidable weapons. The sickle-shaped petals on their arms are actually quite sharp, allowing them to use moves like Slash and Leaf Blade (Ultra Sun, Shield). The danger in these petals goes beyond their sharp edges: lurantises are capable of turning sunlight into powerful beams which they can shoot from their petals that are powerful enough to “cleave through metal plates” (Moon). So. That’s… not great. Any pokémon that could kill you instantly, just from spending time in the sun, is one we have to consider very carefully no matter their usual behavior.
All-in-all, lurantis scores a very middle-of-the-road score due to the mixed results of my analysis. They’re beautiful, small, and smell nice (Scarlet), but they are also said to take a lot of attention and care, and could cause massive damage on whim. Prospective lurantis owners, I’ll leave this one up to you. Personally, I think a fomantis is a much safer choice.
The Fomantis post:
