So for the bodyguard au wanted to make alternate designs for power ups based on incorporating them with shy guy masks and shy guy variants. Listen I will take any opportunity to make outfits for characters it is just so much fun!
Adding sketches on both how the mask works along with an example of a transformation sequence below the “keep reading” to avoid this post getting super long.
Quick edit before I forget I do plan on an alternate cat (super bell) power up that leans more into the cat aesthetic. I just wanted to design a more stealth/field outfit for him. I also have drafts for a knight design for the metal power up! Those are coming later though.
So I wanted to work on the setup that power ups aren’t readily accessible in the Darklands (with the exception of fire flowers and maybe boo shrooms). To counter this I’m going with the concept of fusing power ups with masks so they can be used multiple times (think Majora’s mask).
Currently working with the idea of while this does make the power up a bit weaker, as long as the mask isn’t broken or removed from the user the power up will stay in effect.
Also on how shy guy masks work with different faces this just goes with my headcanon that there are different things under each shy guy’s mask. Varying from some shy guys just having a void that stares back to horrifying appendages and the masks just cover these so they can all blend in together.
The transformation sequence wouldn’t happen every time a mask would be used, but I will never pass an opportunity to draw Luigi break dancing. (Btw the reference for this sequence was Deboshir’s dance when he was going off against Zip Rock, break dancing competitions are super cool and I highly recommend watching them). Anyhow this is super rough, but I hope it gets the general idea across.

i normally wouldnt answer an ask like this but saying "likes june egbert and not john" abt me is fully insane. like you do realize the john egbert art tag on this blog goes back 19 PAGES AND 13 YEARS RIGHT...in terms of sheer numbers hes by far the character ive drawn the most all time. a couple years ago i made a 10 year retrospective post abt all the john egbert ive drawn... i dont just like john i LOVE Him 😭

A gimmick which I think would be interesting in a visual novel: small variation in the visual designs of the sprites and backgrounds based on who's narrating a given scene. Not large variations, mostly—buildings are going to have generally the same architecture, people are going to have generally the same outfits, et cetera—but lots of details shifting around on the margins, showing the texture of the characters' thought-processes through the visual design of the world as they see it, rather than only through the text of their narration.
So, for example, one could have one viewpoint character be unusually faceblind, and portray this by having all the sprites have Same-Face Syndrome when viewed from their perspective, even as they hold onto more variation face-wise in everyone else's perspectives. One could have one viewpoint character who's unusually conscious of the fine details of their physical environment, and portray this by drawing the environment-art with much more fiddly detail when in their perspective, showing wood-grain and electrical wiring and other such things which are abstracted away in others' perspectives of the same areas. Et cetera.

Keyframes VN Update
Hear ye! I've come with updates for Keyframes! This time, I'm shooting over some previews for our CGs!
Currently, we have one artist who's breaking sweat getting these done for our players so be sure to thank @tsyshen for her efforts!

2/7 CGs are already fully rendered, and haha you can probably already guess who these two are.
The rest of the CGs are a work in progress, but we can give you a bit of a hint as to what you can expect in the extended demo with them!
All these papers strewn about must mean you're studying. And jeez-- that monstrous burger sure looks intimidating. But it looks like you're hanging out with a large group of people in these events!
And believe it or not, the rest of the previews I've got to show you are from the same event-- the BBQ party you've played through in the Otome Jam Demo!
We've talked about this a little bit beforehand, but some of the CGs in the extended demo and the game moving forward can change depending on the choices you've made!
Regardless of these changes- there's quite the celebratory mood in each shot, don't you think?

If you haven't heard already, the plan for the CGs in our VN stray a little from convention. In that, not all of them are going to be specially romantic or dramatic, or these full on screen images. Rather some of them are just photos reminiscent of something that you would even find in your own photo gallery.
I can't wait for everyone to see the full photos as well as the subtle changes amongst some of them! I hope it feels as authentic as taking silly pictures with your friends and may everyone make happy memories with our cast!

Obsessed with the difference between puppy-eyed Porsche facing down Kinn's gun in episode 10
and ride or die Porsche facing down Kinn's gun in episode 14.
I love that he doesn't put down his gun this time around, the self-confidence.
I love the obvious trust in Kinn and their relationship - the fact that his trigger finger is as straight as an arrow.
And I also love how this perfectly displays what the constant betrayals, the secrets and schemes, the lies and the violence, the mafia lifestyle as a whole have done to Porsche. I mean look at his face. This man has been through it and it shows.
Apo (and the whole team) did so so good in the portrayal of this (quite heartbreaking) transformation.
