I think Bruce's birthdays are always quiet. Him and Alfred just spend the day together. Get dressed up [the exact same suits they always wear, with different cufflinks] and go to high tea, go to the museum, watch some grey ghost. Alfred used to be self conscious about it because other kids of his status had lavish parties, but 10 year old Bruce assured him there's no place he'd rather be. Once the children come into his life they're included as well. His only wish for his birthday is to have his family together.

Robin who doesn't like touching people.

I mean, she's okay with occasional small pats on the shoulder and handshakes, but big gestures like hugs and skin on skin contact always felt iffy. The only people she's comfortable with touching were her mother and one friend in grade 3.

But the moment she's holding hands with Steve Harrington in the rain, she forgets she doesn't do touching. Well, they nearly got caught by the Russians, so maybe she was just in a panic.

Then after Starcourt, they are both at Steve's house and she finds herself cuddling him. It's weird, but there's no discomfort, so she's curious.

She gives hum a tight hug, and Steve reciprocates immediately, because he just loves human contact. That is so him, Robin thinks. They stay like that for a while, then move onto talking about dumb stuff while still remaining contact.

It feels natural, what Robin and Steve has. As Steve leans his head on hers, she thinks, Yeah, I could do this.

luke quilting using beru's patterns (at least the ones that he can remember, its been too long--) and making a blanket for each of his students when they arrive. each quilt is different.

he embroiders a cloak for each of them when they graduate. it tells their story of trials and achievements. (don't think about the ones that fall, the ones that turn away, the ones that simply never graduate--)

(he has a room dedicated for all of those unfinished ones.)

just the thought of luke re-learning how to embroider/quilt/knit with his mechanical hand. the thought of his always having engine grease under his fingernails. about him getting so frustrated when his hands can't function like they used to. when beru would gently teach him how to hold the needles and hooks right, how to keep tension on yarn without it snapping--

the scent of grease and ozone and sand and something so master skywalker baked into each item made with so much love that his students cant help but feel secure. he puts a piece of his heart into each of his gifts. (his force presence lingers in each one. all of his students are always welcome back. the cloak and quilt are like a hug--a feeling of home that makes them warm and gives them a sense of comfort: a sense that everything will be okay. because master luke is there.)

there are days where the students just crowd around and watch him work. he'll sit in a chair in front of the fireplace and the kids will gather around. those are rest days. they are sacred. luke will often hum lullabies from tatooine (and alderaan. he was there when leia broke down and sobbed in his arms. so he learned. he learned how to sing the tongue of her world, her family, so that she could know that he was family.)

he teaches the younglings that want to learn. (sometimes he swears he can smell aunt beru's curry, or can feel her smiling at him--)

-his room is organised chaos. it looks messy but if he can’t see something he’ll forget where it is and tear up his room looking for it.

It's been a few years since it aired, but I still want to say how profound and meaningful DT2017 Drake's transition from actor to superhero was as a depiction of growing after trauma.

Like so many real people, the trauma he experienced as a child shaped his career goals and his adult sense of self, as he turned his own pain to empathy for others. And yet, while he talks as though he's moved on, that trauma is clearly still affecting him. He's socially awkward, doesn't seem like someone with many friends, and only now, in his early 30s*, seems to have found any tentative career success, through a movie he's aware is not great and will probably flop.

He's floundering because his trauma has limited his ability to see outside of it. In trying to become the exact thing that helped him, he's ended up only looking backwards, as if subconsciously trying to prevent a wound that's already happened. He wants to help others, but all he's been doing is protecting his own inner child. A child who needed not just a work of fiction to give him comfort, but tangible support and safety. Much as he might try, he can't go back and fix it.

And then even the person who gave him hope tore him down as well.

"Now what do I do?" indeed.

Only after it's all literally burned down and there's nothing left, can he finally take his new-found friendship and the real support that comes with it, and move on to an adulthood that builds on his experience rather than just protects it.

It especially makes sense as a Millennial who grew up in a society that said when choosing a career, follow your dreams! Stability will be inevitable! No one seemed to recognize our dreams might be to change the world and heal our traumas. He's had to figure it out himself, and it clearly took a long time.

It's just the most relatable thing, and I'm so glad they chose to write him this way.

*I know some fans put him in his late 20s because the original show came out in 1991, but the creators of DT2017 have said he's a few years younger than Donald, which would make him ~32. Plus he needs to have been old enough to have actually watched Darkwing Duck in the early 90s, and so much of him just feels so familiar to someone else born in the mid-80s. I also think it's that much more meaningful that he's past 30 and still dealing with these issues and struggling to get his life together.
