Astrophotographer Wright Dobbs took this image of five bright planets visible lined up with the moon from St. Cloud, Florida before dawn on June 24, 2022. The planets are (from left): Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn with the crescent moon between Venus and Jupiter. (Image credit: Wright Dobbs) The rare sight of five bright planets lining up with the moon wowed skywatchers around the world Friday, with some gearing up for more this weekend to see a planetary sight that won't happen again until 2040. "Seeing the night sky is amazing and, knowing the rarity of these alignments, you have to take every opportunity to view and capture it," Dobbs told Space.com Follow 👨‍🚀 @spaience for the best space and astronomy facts. Gum 51 or RCW105 A very very faint nebula (can't even see it in stellarium! So framing was difficult!) Took about 8 hours but culled to 5 and I think it still needs more time!! I pushed this data quite hard, there was alot of noise to clean up. I think a mono camera and HA filter would be better suited. It's located in the constellation Norma. Using my 750mm Newt. ASI533, NEXUS reducer and Optolong L-enhance. #universe #nightskyporn #nebula #astrophotographyporn #universetoday #outerspace #nightsky #backyardastronomy #spaceart #ig_astrophotography #nightskyphotography #nebulae #astrophotography #astrochick #astrophotography #asi533 #gum51 #stars #astrochick #astrophotography #womenofastrophotography @skywatcheraustralia @zwo_astronomy_cameras @astromaniacmag @aapod.2 @amateurastrophotographyezine (at Astrogirl.au - Backyard Observatory) https://www.instagram.com/p/CfQip6GJfGK/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

The pillars of creation (Hubble Sho palette) Large structures of interstellar gas and dust some 7000 light years away. The pillars of creation get this name from the fact they are forming new stars whilst the same time being eroded by the light of nearby massive stars. One day this lovely structure will no longer exist.... Or perhaps it may already be gone for we are only seeing this as it was nearly 7000 years ago. If they are destroyed, then by some calculations we wouldnt see until 1000 years from now, but of course there is a dispute between astronomers on this matter. Who knows? Thats what i love with this is the mystery and the complexity of our cosmos and the imagination and experimentation combined with mathematical calculations including the nature of light. This is but a mere attempt i worked towards in my backyard at bortle 7(severe) light pollution using the SHO hubble palette to bring this to life. Full resolution and technical details can be found on the link under my bio For now and always thanks for looking and always keep your head up to the stars! 🎶🎸🎶 #astrophotography #deepspace #nightsky #natgeospace #spacedust #stardust #pixinsight #cosmos #texas #followyourstars #universe #backyardastrophotography #night_photography #astronomy #universetoday #amateurastrophotographyezine #imagination #pillarsofcreation #spaceisawesome #spacedotcom #stars #depthofield #spacestuff #narrowbandimaging #nightlife #cosmicarena #nebulae #newmilkyway #starstuff #astrodon @amateurastrophotographyezine https://www.instagram.com/p/BqxghZ4AYt4/?igshid=1kuzirftsz3e6

Jezero Crater, Mars 2020's Landing Site NASA's Mars 2020 will land in Jezero Crater, pictured here. The image was taken by instruments on NASA's Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter, which regularly takes images of potential landing sites for future missions. On ancient Mars, water carved channels and transported sediments to form fans and deltas within lake basins. Examination of spectral data acquired from orbit show that some of these sediments have minerals that indicate chemical alteration by water. Here in Jezero Crater delta, sediments contain clays and carbonates. The Veil Nebula is a beautiful result of a supernova that occurred long ago in the past, where the expanding dhock wave from the supernova slammed into the surrounding interstellar gas, heating it up, exciting it and caused it to glow. Even now, the Veil is still ballooning outwards. The reason why the Veil Nebula looks the way it is is because we are viewing it edge-on. In this image, it is framed such that the Western Veil, also known as NGC6960, the “Finger of God” or the “Witch’s Broom” can be seen at the top part of the image, with the bright star 52 Cygni lighting the way. Below the dramatic and beautiful Western Veil is Pickering’s Triangle and the “Funnel”, much fainter patches of the Veil supernova remnant. The Pickering’s Triangle is a beautiful tangle of filaments and cavities that narrows to a small point, resembling a triangle with an extended point. Lastly there is NGC6974 and NGC6979 at the bottom left corner of the image. The Veil Nebula is a beautiful sight to behold in large telescopes visually with the aid of a filter such as a UHC or OIII filter, popping out with dimensionality and contrast. It is a target that benefits from long exposures and this image is made up of 10-minute subexposures totalling 3 hours. Shot with a QHY294C with an STC Astro-DuoNB filter and a 70mm APO refractor on a CEM25P.

Elephants trunk in bicolor (IC 1396/vdb 142) This is an emission nebula about 2400 light years away. Located in the constellation cepheus, it is comprised of dense interstellar gas and dust with a large structure of ionized dust and a diffuse nebula.  The elephants trunk nebula is thought to be a massive star forming region with young stars less than 100k years old!  The pressure from the light, gas, dust and star formation is theorized to host a current generation of protostars. Thought i would work a new rendition of the elephants trunk here as i am learning and experimenting with narrowband color palettes. Its one of my favorite star forming regions on my list and i just felt like after looking at the first rendition that it deserved some attention. I decided to see what i could cook up with a bicolor style using the hydrogen alpha and Oxygen III present in the nebula. Equipment and software: Gso rc6, stellardrive heq5, self modified zwo off axis guider, zwo asi1600mm with 8 position  electronic filter wheel using astrodon filters 3nm oiii, and 5nm halpha.  Qhy polemaster Field sofware:  sgpro, eqmod, stellarium, phd2 and plate solve 2 Calibrated, aligned, stacked and processed in pixinsight. Pickerings triangle (cloudy nights reprocess) I like to call this the Pizza Nebula as it looks like a slice of pizza with stretchy cheese. Named for the Harvard professor Edward Charles Pickering.  Very interesting fellow to read on by the way.  He had a team of only women help map all the stars and determine their measurements, temperatures and distances from each other and the earth.  Amongst the women, 2 of them made huge differences in the way we understand the cosmos along with their team.  These 2 women were Annie Jump Canon and Cecilia Payne.  Cecilia Payne, known amongst scientists gave rise to modern day astrophysics and her studies are the standard text into it.  She came from the UK to the USA during a time when women weren't allowed to take advanced studies of the cosmos in her home country.  For more information on these great women and Mr. Pickering you can find it online.  As for the nebula.... This is but a small portion of the ever expanding veil nebula (aka the cygnus loop) found in the cygnus constellation.  The veil is a supernova remnant that exploded 3000 BC to 6000 BC.  It now appears as clouds of ionized gas and dust.  The distance to the nebula isn't 100% accurately known but the Far Ultraviolet Spectroscopic Exporer supports a distance of 1470 light years away. This was captured with a GSO Rc6, Zwo asi1600mm, 8 position electronic filter wheel, off axis guider with a zwo 290mm mini, astrophysics ccdt67 and a Stellardrive heq5 mount.  Software for field work:  eqmod, apt, stellarium, phd2 and plate solve 2.  Calibrated and processed in pixinsight. M27 Dumbbell nebula (reprocess) This is a reprocess of data from the last m27 i did. It sure has been cloudy. This is 4.5 hours worth of data at bortle 7 (severe) light pollution and I hope to come back to this with more integration time. This nebula is what our sun will eventually do! Kaboom! I wonder if we'll be around by then. That of course would be a future dependent on technological advancements to put us on a new planet just close enough to view the light show. I hope thats a future for our kind. 12x600s oiii 15x600s halpha 30 flats per filter 64 darks 200 bias Total integration= 4.5 hours Gain 200, offset 50. The great nebula in Orion (m42) Shot and processed HaRGB in HDR. This is the 3rd time reprocessing this data in which you can see on my page the many ways this target can be brought to life, each showcasing its own special features. In this rendition i did not include my Luminance data from previous processes but instead used the hydrogen alpha channel as its own "synthetic" luminance, given the abundant detail the channel already has when it comes to total nebulosity. This object is found in the constellation of Orion the hunter right under his belt. This was shot between the months of December 2017-february 2018 The halpha was shot in my backyard in fort worth at bortle 7 (severe light pollution), and the red green and blue was a split between TAS dark site (bortle 3) and fort Griffin (bortle 2) **Equipment and Software:** Heq5 Mount ES 80mm ed apo triplet astrotech .8x flattener/reducer Zwo 1600mm for imaging Zwo RGB filters 1.25" Astrodon Halpha 5nm 1.25" Zwo 8 position filter wheel Agena 50mm Starguider guidescope Zwo asi120mc for autoguiding Qhy Polemaster **Phd2 for guiding, Apt for imaging and plate solving, Stellarium, Eqmod for mount control etc., Pixinsight for stacking and processing** **Integration totals** Halpha= 8 hours and 18 minutes Red= 1 hour 18min 15s Green= 1 hour 23min 15s Blue= 1 hour 13min 15s GRAND TOTAL= 12hr 18min For now and always thanks for looking and always keep your head up to the stars! 🎶🎸🎶 #astrophotography #deepspace #nightsky #natgeospace #orionsbelt #space #pixinsight #stargazing #followyourstars #universe #night_photography #astronomy #universetoday #OPTeam #yourESA #ig_nightphotography #astrotech #crazy #amateurphotography #amateurastrophotographyezine #nightshooters #explorescientific #nebulae #astrodon #orionnebula #spaceischill #spacelife #wow #winter #yourESA #hdr @amateurastrophotographyezine https://www.instagram.com/p/BrB0ZPJBcvT/?igshid=cx3xnr1p7j93

The crab nebula! Messier 1! Once again I am doing another reprocess on an image that I felt deserved it. The #cloudpocalypse has been killing me and now that it's cleared up the big bright moon is out washing away all the deep sky objects I yearn to capture. Hoping it stays clear for a trip out for Galaxy season! Speaking of crabs and other crustaceans, it's crawfish season or what some would call "crayfish". It's my most favorite season of them all and the only real way to enjoy them is to do a Cajun style boil. Perhaps I'll do a post of cooking them for those who would like to see and learn something new. This is actually one of my favorite objects and really wanted to capture this when I got my rc6. Still pretty widefield, so I know in the future I'll be looking forward to capturing this at a much longer focal length. This was captured with a zwo asi1600mm cool with astrodon sho filters on a stellardrive heq5 mount by the one and only @darkframeoptics. I wouldn't be able to aquire such exposures past 3min with my rc6 if it weren't for them and all the hard work they do. Thank you all for looking! Keep your fingers crossed for something new on the horizon for me please! #astrophotography #crab #crawfish #cajun #stars #nightsky #longexpo #starwars #natgeospace #opteam #milkywaychasers #spacecrab #m1 #followyourstars #savethestars #cosmos #amateurastrophotographyezine #amateurphotography #nasa #spacex #tgif #ig_astrophotography #astrodon #cosmosart #woahdude https://www.instagram.com/p/BvCc8EHhllW/?igshid=1q1txeplmrqp3

Bicolor monkey madness!!!! Ngc 2174 the monkey head nebula Tell you what Galaxy season has been tough. Haven't gotten much to show for yet as my full time job is keeping me extra busy and clouds want to show up on my off days. So! Here I am doing a fun bicolor edit of one of my favorite nebula. Personally I still prefer the first one I have on my page as it's full sho narrowband, but I just enjoy editing bicolor and showing the hydrogen and oxygen. Hoping to have a Galaxy for you all to see before the season ends, but for now thank you for looking and hope you enjoy this rendition as much as I did processing it. #astrophotography #astrodon #amateurastrophotographyezine #cosmos #followyourstars #starchild #monkey #gorilla #ape #nebula #longexpo #narrowband #party #science #astrophysics #spacemonkey #stars #nightphotography #bicolor @asim_searah @jariwintersun @teemumantysaari #kingkong #onewithstars #astroscape https://www.instagram.com/p/BwIF0aph49r/?igshid=1m3bibuo4dm0w
