I have never fully "got" destiel but I cannot stand them being slandered by the GO camp. now that I think about it. and I had forgotten this until I started writing a sentence defending the book so open cards. I have historically been far more invested in azcrow. drew more fanart for that. did participate in writing a spn crackfic once that did feature destiel. of course. such was the lay of the land. but if anything I actually have the real emotional stake in the go guys. so when I defend destiel that is really noble of me. Is what I'm saying.

Here are the stages of grief for belated Destiel fans (I've lived them, I'm still in recover).
1. The downplay: here people acknowledge the existence of Destiel but also think old-time fans exaggerate it. Bear in mind: usually these people have never watched Supernatural before so this can also be called "The blissful ignorance" stage.
2. The curiosity; Usually on Tiktok and usually around Nov 5th, said people get bombared by Destiel-related content. The lingering angst of the fans start to tingle the blissful ignorant's curiosity.
3. The warning: Wise and longstanding fans warn said people against watching SPN. They really do their best, in hindsight one can say that they really cared about newcomers. They scream ZONT ZONT ZO IT at the top of their lungs.
4. The arrogance: said people ignore the wise fans' warnings and proceed to watch SPN thinking they're stronger than anybody and they indeed will AND can ZO IT.
5. The suspect: season 1 starts before said people's eyes and they soon realize Dean is bi-coded and "omg it's so obvious". People start to suspect fans were ALWAYS right.
6. The shock: few episodes in season 4 and now said people are the ones who are screaming. They can't believe their eyes, they repent, they apologize, they BELIEVE.
7.  The rage:  they get angry at the show for gasliting people for 15 years while still watching it because they need MORE.
8. The doubt: people start looking for old online metas because maybe they're getting crazy so they need proofs, receipts, timestamps etc.
9. The certainty: people are now certain even though the show never gave them any certainty. But now they know that "when you know, you know".
10. The consolation: the only thing left to do is watching edits, gifs, other people' comments. Usually these people are never left alone and will be in good company while recovering from the TRAUMA.
TELL ME I DIDN'T SPEAK THE WORD OF GOD NOW!

the cockles masterlist, part 6
now split in SIX parts for link limit reasons
WARNING: this post glitches and crashes on mobile. it’s recommended you view this on your desktop, or at least on your mobile browser rather than the app. if my desktop theme is hard on your eyes, try an extension such as Just Read or Reader View to customize the layout and colors.
if you’re still having trouble viewing, or if you don’t want to have to switch between the five posts, here’s all of the links compiled into a google doc.
welcome to the cockles masterpost, a labor of love/insomniac hyperfixation.
i recently wrote this cockles manifesto, but after it got a lot of notes and i kept adding more links to it, i decided i should just go through my 8 years of archives and compile all the cockles posts in a much more accessible and navigable way. after everything with the series finale and destielgate, i figured we could use some happiness, and it turns out there are a lot of people who’ve never heard the cockles gospel.
important disclaimer: yes, i do think that jensen and misha have a private romantic/sexual relationship, but no i do not, in any way, think that they have ever cheated on their wives. we think they are polyamorous, which is a real and valid thing, and misha is openly poly. some people love more than one person, and that’s okay. their families are close and we love and support all of them.
second important disclaimer: despite the amount of innuendo below, this is not about fantasizing about two hot guys fucking. cockles is about the joy of witnessing two people who love each other and make each other happy and are disgustingly cute together. we’re not fetishizing, we’re just appreciating what they publicly share with us.
third important disclaimer: because some of y’all don’t know, the cardinal rule of cockles is that we don’t talk to cockles about cockles. DO NOT leave any comments on their social media accounts implying anything. not even green and blue hearts. they know that we know, but it’s on us not to make it weird. if we’re too obvious and say too much, they might start sharing less. don’t say anything.
for the sake of my sanity, these are in no particular order.

Supernatural Rewrite..........2!
Tumblr media
For those who miss Adam, are angry about Bela & Cassie, can't stand John in "Lebanon", and scorned Destiel shippers. For the fans of Supernatural who always wanted a little bit more than the show was willing to give, do I have the project for you! Hello all; and for those of you familiar with my project, hello again! I'm back and better than ever with an improved Supernatural Rewrite! I’m doing a novelization of the show in which I am rewriting the entirety of Supernatural. In this novelization, I’ve added new characters with new story arcs, as well as reworking existing ones for canon characters. The main focus of this project is to analyze the canon and it's impact through a new and improved narrative, with a focus on the things the audience always wanted a follow up on. There are new story lines that feature people of color, gay and trans individuals, as well as disabled individuals, both who were previously canonized and new additions altogether (featuring a new Winchester Middle Sister)! There is also a major focus on reworking, removing, and reckoning with old plot lines which featured racist, homophobic, transphobic, and ableist aspects. I want to explore both the narratives already present and branch out to new ones, so this project is meant to be extensive and very detail oriented! If you want to follow the project, you can check out the first installment here on ao3! I plan on updating every Friday, and am always open to comments and asks about the direction and aspects of this fic! If you find yourself craving more, make sure to subscribe to the series on ao3, where you can check out the previous drafts of the "Pilot" and "Dead in the Water"!

wait explain to me the destiel hatred i’m curious what abt it angers u that doesn’t apply to the other two ships
great question! the answer would unfortunately require 3 hours and a powerpoint presentation, so i will try to do a brief summary:
a ship sucking only ever has about 25% to do with the ship itself. destiel is bad in the sense that i think dean winchester is an annoying character that gets treated with kiddie gloves by the narrative, which makes him irritating to see on screen, because i personally dislike it when "men are angry and abusive because they just love too strongly, and don't know how to express it :(" is played straight as a character's primary internal conflict. especially over 15 seasons. it's boring, he's boring, and 35 year old men shouldn't be going to colleges trying to figure out which freshman girls are legal or not. hate him.
however the real sin of destiel, beyond the fact that dean winchester and i have beef that will only ever resolve when i get to reincarnate as the rusty nail that kills him, is that the fans are so so so fucking annoying. like yes the narrative frames dean as a golden boy who can either do no wrong, or "well, i guess he did wrong there, but what about how tortured he is :(" but good god. at least the show isn't trying to convince me that destiel is some groundbreaking lifechanging love story, complete with "omg this moment" montages where they romanticize scenes that feature dean either insulting, threatening, or humiliating cas. like this entire show (post season 5) is dean chronically either infantillizing and attempting to keep cas under his control, or holding him up as the only person he can rely on, thus giving cas expectations that are impossible to fulfill.
and don't get me wrong! people can like a shitty person and a fucked up ship. that's basically everything i enjoy on here. but at least like. acknowledge it. aldfkjalka. and if you're gonna like a shitty person and a fucked up ship, at least write about it in an interesting way. 90% of fic and posts written about destiel aren't even about destiel as presented in canon, they're about two generic men with generic personalities who suffer from the world's most generic tropey problems. cookie cutter ass basic relationship. the high school au of ships. boring.

For real. I didn't hate the end of Supernatural because Destiel didn't happen. I hated it because Castiel wasn't in it. Because they ignored Cas and made it seem like he wasn't important. THAT is why I hated it with a passion beyond anything I have hated before or since. If Supernatural comes back in any way shape or form, I will ONLY watch it if Castiel is confirmed to be in it. I am legit not. even. curious about a revival that centres only on Sam and Dean. I 100% have no interest in watching that. At all. I haven't watched the finale since it aired and you couldn't pay me to. I will not watch any future SPN unless Castiel is featured. I cannot emphasize how little interest I have in the show if Cas isn't there. I understand that for some that makes me a "fake fan" or a "bad fan" but to them I say... cope. *shrug* I watched the show for Cas. If I'd known he wasn't going to be in the finale, I promise you I would never have watched it. I'm still angry nearly 4 years later that I was duped into watching that shit. I will not be fooled again.
Hi non, I agree with everything you said.
I hate the finale more for what it did in the fandom, I hate the fact that the confession was overshadowed by the debate on Dean's reaction and then by Dean's death, because what's Castiel to the fandom, in front of Dean, right?
I hate that it gave a lot of ammunition to the Cas/Misha antis
And I also hate it because it doesn't clear the fate of any other characters not just Cas, I want to know what happened to hell and Rowena and the angels and who came out of Empty and I want to know if Jody and the girls went forward and if Garth and his family helped others settle down
Who is the new death and what about Aamara? (They did her so dirty)
I don't mind being a "fake" fan, cause I don't even consider myself a supernatural fan, I came here because of Misha and stay because I have come of love many chracters and actors and I have made friends but the show as a whole is not something I like.
I haven't watched the finale either, I didn't even consider watching Season 1-3 or many Cas-less episodes, so watching revial without Castiel is out of question.
And there is a part of me that wishes Misha never comes back, I would like to see cas again, but I don't his aperence to be just solving a problem for the brothers and pat on back. (I don't think they will even make destiel explict but I won't mind Ca getting a boyfriend, I would love that actually)

Okay the Vickie problem that Twitter isn’t ready for.
When I say she was written badly, I mean she was written simply as a love interest for Robin, there is nothing more to her character. Which is the exact problem people have with straight romance in a lot of media, which leads people to ship the main character with other people, because they simply have chemistry together - that’s how many famous ships were created like Destiel, Johnlock and so on.
Vickie has three scenes. In first one she just chats with Robin. In second one she’s used for queer angst, when Robin sees her with her boyfriend. In third everything is resolved and we finally get to see her character… except she’s just a copy of Robin. She says the same stuff Robin said earlier to Steve, she rambles just like Robin. (Also seems like writers suddenly forgot Robin should probably ramble too, instead she’s just quiet when talking with the girl she had a crush on for so long)
Tumblr media
It just feels like writers threw in a silhouette of a queer love interest to make the queer fans shut up, that’s enough to satisfy them right? I have nothing against Vickie, she could be a great sweet character, perfect for Robin. However they didn’t show that in the show.
About shipping and chemistry; for characters to have chemistry they both need to be established outside each other. There is many characters in stranger things like that who interact with Robin and it already creates stronger chemistry then with Vickie. For example Nancy, she and Robin had so much chemistry in this season, you can be angry about that, but you know I’m right.
Tumblr media
This scene doesn’t help the case at all.
So in conclusion, it’s very unfortunate Vickie doesn’t work as a full character. But if you like her and her relationship with Robin, GOOD!! Just don’t be mean to others, same goes for those not satisfied with her character.

The things I decided to ignore for that man, my goodness! Some of them I never saw, tbh, and too this day I still don't know what they were about. But I did see other things he has said/done and pretended they were harmless jokes, or even after being angry I let myself be convinced by other fans that maybe is wasn't that bad, perhaps I was overreacting. He's a "good person" deep down so maybe if he keeps fucking up over and over we should always forgive him. I feel like I forgave him too many times.
But not anymore.
If genocide denial doesn't make you leave, nothing will. But even if he starts posting about Palestine every day from now on, we all saw all those tweets and so much more. Deep down he still thinks like that. Some of you will forget, pretend it never happened, will want to believe with all your heart that he's changed (until he fucks up again because surprise, he hasn't changed and his fans will always protect him no matter what). Somehow a privileged white man's feeling are always more important.
Like I said a thousand times already, I'm fucking tired of giving white people the benefit of the doubt only to be disappointed and angry time and time again.
I still love destiel, I'll keep reading fanfics and sharing posts about it. It makes me happy. But that's it. This is the end for me.

Some thoughts on the spn mothership, the prequel, inclusion in spn, and what this particular endless fandom forever war actually is at its root.
This has all happened before, in other major franchises.
Attempts to expand and become more inclusive get angry kick-back.
File “Jensen the bibro king who only cares about the bro bond” with other targeted wank: bashing on fans who genuinely advocate for more inclusive media and a more inclusive spn, slams on Misha’s activism or calling Misha’s allyship cynical pandering for money, aggressive concern trolling against inclusive characters under a veneer of wokeness. They did it to Wayward Sisters. They don't want it, they hate it, they also pretend to care, just enough to target the inclusive characters and deem them unworthy, but they don't actually care.
The picture is getting clearer and clearer. This is way outside the boundaries of ship wars. It’s them trying to stab a flag in Jensen to claim him for an spn that has no room for anyone but Sam and Dean and pretend he’s their anti-diversity king.
It's attacks on spn being a diverse world, period. Look at how and why they attack the prequel. Why are they mad. They’ve told us why: to them “spn is only Sam & Dean.” That is not just an attempt to gatekeep the spn mothership show. That is a gatekeep on the entire spn universe.
And while kinging him as their anti-diversity wind-up toy they’re also still hating him for the prequel, for not playing along with their narrow mindedness. For not being who they wanted him to be.
At this point, any so called “fans” labeling Jensen “the bibro king who only cares about the bro bond” have shown you what they are. jfc no wonder they hate the prequel this badly.
Some history, for context.
The Silent Majority is a "bibro" fans twitter founded in the hiatus between S7 and S8 to advocate for exclusion. They denied the accusation, but all the language and their posts were insidiously designed to maintain an spn where only Sam and Dean counted.
This has been there, all along, ticking away, and the ship war aspect has clouded what this actually is. It's not just about Cas. It's not just about Destiel. They've gone after marginalized character after marginalized character, in the name of “it's only about the brothers"
This conflict has always been there, since S1.
I love spn as a whole, I’ll even rewatch seasons I don't like as much, but I’ve always been critical of the yankback on the creatives' attempts at making that world more inclusive.
I never asked it to be something it wasn’t. It’s that I responded to the story being told, to the attempts of the creatives to expand that world, and let more diverse characters in, and allow them to matter. It helps the story. It’s not about diminishing Sam and Dean. On the mothership, the brothers were always the centerpiece, and other characters helped to tell their story, but Sam and Dean have also served as windows into other stories along the way, the stories of people who crossed their path and who matter to the brothers.
I’ve been an SPN fan since 2005 and have seen the mothership show pushing against the walls bounding it in for a long time. spn mothership for now remains artifact to enjoy in rewatch, and while I love it, I’m not ever claiming it as some ground-breakingly diverse series, but it smashed a lot of the walls and ceilings placed on it along the way and the creatives fought for more inclusion there for longer than you think.
It’s a different era. Now it’s the spn universe. Inclusion is baked into spn content from the jump. And it’s 2022 not 2005.
Supernatural is for everyone.

I think (or at least I hope) that the angry Destiel super fans in your inbox are very young and immature. I’ve been around since forever in various fandoms and back in our day no one gave a shit if our ship didn’t go Canon. I had several ships involving characters that had never even met, fgs. Shipping was a fun, relaxing activity- not the weirdly culty, religious experience it is now. Dear superfans, stop trying to convince people about your ship - who cares what anyone else thinks . If you enjoy shipping, just do it and leave the rest of us and the actors alone.
I don't know about the ones in my inbox, but I've seen plenty of hellers who are older, have kids, spouses, etc. In fact, they're most often the ones finding those who are younger and easily manipulated (e.g., insecure, needing attention, etc.) and 'indoctrinating' them (probably because it's a power-trip). It's basically a cult complete with pushy salespeople who refuse to let disbelievers live in peace.

Did you see Tennant's interview with a radio station today? He denied Aziracrow being a thing and pinned it on viewers projecting. Twitter is angryyyyyyy hahaha. Even the gendies are getting nervous and pissed off with Neil, bringing up Johnlock and saying they're going to lose it if they've been baited. I've seen way more of that than the usual "trust Neil" and "they're ace/undefined and that's okay!" People are getting seriously upset and saying it's textbook queerbaiting and that it doesn't count if it's up for interpretation. There are more tweets saying they think the leak is a fakeout or bait-and-switch now too. If it is then it explains Neil's panic and anger but also he will be fuuuuuuccckkkked 😂 that might also explain Michael looking so weird when he called them buddies. He's very online so he'd be feeling the pressure of the fandom's expectations.
There’s something really frustrating about a straight man who likely has no understanding of the weight of gaybaiting, who’s never had to experience not seeing himself represented on screen and being played with like this, saying this. Straight couples never get treated this way. They never get left “up for interpretation” and they’re never “just projecting”. We still are not in a time where we’re getting regular good representation of healthy gay couples (that is made for LGB people, not fetishy straight people). Meaning we are not yet in a time where it’s okay for potential gay couples to be treated this way. It’s not a good thing that this couple is being left up for interpretation and that they’re undefined. It’s a result of homophobia.
I interpreted the “best buddy” thing as a “gals being pals” type jest, like an inside joke… but Tennant’s interview is making me nervous. In true clown fashion I’m still hoping that the vagueness might be a result of a no spoiler rule. And this might just have been an awkward attempt on Tennant’s end to not spoil things. But it’s also possible that everyone on the team knows there’s no romance, knows that fans want romance, and are getting nervous about the backlash.
It’s just crazy to me that after things like Destiel and Johnlock getting so big, gaybait is still happening. You’d think creators would’ve learned by now that this isn’t okay. ESPECIALLY creators who wave around GLAAD awards.
I’m glad that the fandom is starting to catch on, though. I think that the leak is either the best or worst thing to happen to GO and Neil. If there’s romance and it’s not baiting, then the leak is the best thing that happened because it’ll drive attention to the show, and I’m sure it’ll fuel discussions like “omg remember when we were nervous about this?”. If it is baiting though…I can see it being the absolute worst thing to happen to both the show and Neil, because people will be rightfully angry about baiting and be angry at him for not calming down the excitement before people were disappointed (as I’ve said before, all it would take from him is a simple “before anyone gets too excited, just know that second long clip is out of context. Wait and see”. Not saying anything makes it seem like this is real…so if it isn’t, he’s going to get backlash).

Sam is best when juxtaposed against the Destiel angst fest lol, just a third wheel in their drama. And hilariously Cas… doesn’t really vibe with Sam? Like especially at first he’s his blunt, robotic self and is either polite but distant or just ignores him (and is constantly accidentally insulting him the whole time) and then once he starts having opinions and his own taste he’s clearly like, ew with regards to Sam on a personal level (he gets drunk and literally tells Sam his voice is annoying lol) but still care about him as a family member he finds irritating lol. And as the show goes on thru sheer attrition Cas is considered BOTH their best friend (cus like everyone else is dead lol) which is hilarious because Dean and Cas have their thing and Cas and Sam are like “I will die for you but I don’t want to go to the beach together unless Dean is also there” which is funny because they should get along on paper as 2 more studious and serious characters but nope
(I think this relationship is the way it is mostly because Jared pesters/harasses Misha SO much during filming the writers aren’t supposed to pair them together or else filming will take too long)
((That’s another thing to keep in mind with Misha’s acting, it’s all the more impressive because Jared and Jensen are like, making faces and poking him off camera CONSTANTLY to make him break while he desperately tries to say his lines. Jared would literally poke him in the crotch with stick and shit))
I will say personally Sam is however, not my fav with regards to his own dramatic shit because I’m sorry to say Jared just is not a very good dramatic actor and I just can’t when he has to be. Like he’s pretty good for comedy but yeah when he’s sad or angsty or angry he’s just so huffy lol. (Also Jared kinda sucks as a person* and I’m sure I’d like Sam better with another actor poor Sam). Some people really like his acting tho! But then again I’m also not a huge fan of the Cas voice that people love so I might just have bad taste lol
* anti-Jared (for the stans to filter out this post lol) (if you wanna know why I don’t like him there’s drama posts abound in that anti tag but for me it’s mostly he’s literally taken pictures and names service workers he feels like are rude to him and has posted those pictures on Twitter/Facebook. This has happened multiple times. And the “pranking” of Misha that feels like it’s crossed the line a few time even tho they all say it’s in good fun it seems unprofessional to all the other crew and actors :/ )
i've vaguely heard of the way that the spn actors will goof off on set which just ends up pissing off all the other crew who just want to get the job done and go home
in my humble opinion (<-started watching spn 40 minutes ago) i think sam should just be relegated to the literal and metaphorical and narrative straight man who serves as the audience stand-in to react to dean and cas' antics.
to be quite totally honest, the main thing that stood out to me abt misha's acting is that cas is nothing like misha at all fjdslkfjd which i know is the bare minimum of what acting should be but misha is simply so much😅

Funny how a professional author and screenwriter summarised the plot of a TV show, in which one being stood infront of another and admitted his feelings, and one of the beings could not reciprocate at that time, and one of them also got blasted to another plane of existence leaving the other depressed and alone, as romantic.
Funny, you mean to tell me that's not platonic dude-bro behaviour? Who'd have ever guessed that was romantic, eh SPN.
Honestly I am gonna say something: as someone who has come into the SPN fandom following 15x18 craze I too was very vocal about "them" being homophobic and calling the fans "delusional" without actually ever asking who those "they" were in the first place? Maybe I don't know fandom history well enough or don't think there is much point in it after the confession but I get the impression that people will often be angry with the writers for "queerbaiting". That was also something I was aware of for years before I started watching spn at all.
I think everyone who blames writers for queerbaiting in spn is wrong. SPN is queer not because a bunch of fans decided they were gonna have a very queer field day with this seemingly "macho" show. It is queer because for years writers neatly put one subtly queer block on another to build a queer narrative. Sadly they couldn't be as vocal about it as Neil Gaiman is because a)homophobia was more rampant back then b) the network had done market research and the results said that destiel wasn't something people wanted. Yes, throughout the years there have been some writers in the mix and some actors (jared for example is still very anti destiel. Jensen for me is on probation rn lmao) who were against destiel but I would say that most people in the winters room were very much on the board and made very specific choices to prove this. Remember when Misha said , even years before the confession how they were all aware of Destiel and had had talks about it? How Mark Sheppard said they all knew Cas was in love with Dean? I feel like Destiel was an established idea amongst the creatives working in the show it's just that they couldn't be vocal about it because well, if anyone is going to be blamed for any homophobic crimes it's the C*W network isn't it? And after the whole Misha biasco and how the network was urging him to stay out as bi because that would be more profitable, I didn't even think the anti destiel stance was really fueled by homophobia but more likely by their conviction that most of their viewers would absolutely flip shit if Dean Winchester was anything other than straight. And yes, you will ask WHO wouldn't want Destiel to be canon?? And I'll tell you that I know it feels hard to believe that people would watch SPN for anything besides Destiel or the queer themes so intricately woven into it but having been to a SPN convention now I can say that these people very much exist and most likely were the group they used for market research back in the day.
Sorry this got a lot longer than anticipated but all in all, I think (most) writers very much always saw dean & cas as romantic because they write them as romantic and tbh at this point I'm under the impression that nobody is trying to nohomo Dean & Cas. Except wincesties, that Adam Williams dude and Clif & other few 'Dean can only be straight because he is part of my straight fantasy' girlies. And some con organizers. Which is an entire new topic tbh and, again, I do not know a lot about fandom history, but I think most transgression against fans was always comitted at cons and cons are the 'sales' side not the 'creative' side of things so they would have to follow the networks guidelines. Or sometimes make their own stupid choices I guess (sincerely, fuck you Daniela).

Maybe just maybe..
Jensen was the guy who got rejected by the dorky co star back then (Men in Woods, Break up era etc.) and Destiel was the byproduct of him making eyes at him and thinking maybe there's something there. Then things got complicated and every time some fan who perceived his little crush and mistook it for Destiel, and then mentioned it to him infront of Misha and God reminded him of the heart breaking, gut wrenching moment of Misha saying NO.
Maybe he was just like you and me. Getting angry because he got shot down and the ship reminded him of that pain and it just made him angry...
Maybe by the time things got good for him and something happened between them is the time that anger slipped away...
Maybe nothing happened and Jensen came to accept it like a grown up and Destiel as the love byproduct.
Maybe Misha was so understanding because he knew what started it all.
Maybe I am just crazy...
