The space sections in museums are the best part and you can’t argue otherwise.

A dark room with some funky music, a bunch of little LEDs in the roof/wall to simulate stars, and the most gorgeous space pictures known to man just plastered everywhere.

Absolute 10/10 vibe. The only thing that can maybe rival it is the really well done museum dioramas with good taxidermy/models and any section with a bunch of cool shiny rocks/gemstones.

P5R PMD AU because i am insane!!!

So I have many a thought in my head and with Spike Chunsoft dangling the idea of a new Mystery Dungeon entry in front of my face this past week I have more thoughts. Especially about the Mystery Dungeon AU's I create with every fandom I join.

So um Persona 5 PMD au (with some visuals).

Also this will contain major spoilers for Persona 5 Royal and Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon.

First, this is a rewrite of PMD Super, because I will not write a new story for this and also because I always see Explorers get the crossover au/rewrite treatment (as it should tbh) and we gotta switch it up!! Now with the main plot not really changing we can jump into the characters.

1. The Heros

The hero role is filled both by Akira Kurusu and Goro Akechi, both being human and both losing their memories respectfully after being isekai'd into a foreign world. These bitches gay, so I think it's funny to throw them into another god killing situation.

The role stays true to the plot, get chased by Beheeyem, get adopted, join the guild, etc. it would just have more banter between characters in between.

Akira:

At first you may think, "Wouldn't Zorua fit better? Isn't that the black and red trickster Pokémon that fits the overall aesthetic really well? Wouldn't it have been cool for an Akiren that could summon fake illusion personas???" Because I thought the same things until I realized I cannot draw Zorua!

I also think even though Floragato doesn't really fit aesthetically, it fits in every other aspect of joker persona. Silly little jester cat.

I also thought Zorua would be too much of an awkward fit in the group just, vibes man, he's too small. Once you see my other picks you'll get it. You get silly little jester cat take it or leave it.

Goro:

STUPID BIRD!! THE CHOICE IS OBVIOUS!! FUCKIN,, CROW MAN!! CORVISQUIRE SWEEP!!

I also made him shiny because it matches his color pallete. Literally easiest decision in the world. I was originally going to go with rookidee but again, too small.

2. The partner

You thought these bitches were doing this shit alone?? NO!! THEY NEED A SILLY FRIEND!! WHO ELSE TO PUT IN THE ROLE OF THE WEIRD ADOPTED ORPHAN THAN WEIRD ADOPTED ORPHAN FUTABA SAKURA!! Also going forward no other character is human, very important pmd shit.

Futaba:

Similarly to the p5 plot, Futaba is still grieving her mom while getting adopted by Sojiro. Wakaba died in an "unfortunate accident" while doing research for a guild on the grass continent. The last thing left in Futaba's possession is her harmony scarf. Unlike p5, Futaba didn't actually see her mom die since she was in Serene Village while her mom was doing research. She still somewhat blames herself for her mother's death but is motivated to find the truth behind it.

Futaba's social anxiety would prevent her from joining a proper exploration team, until of course she gets two new neighbors that are reminded of someone in her and feel obligated to help (THE HEROS FROM BEFORE IN CASE YOU DIDNT GET THAT). Also in Super, the partner doesn't join a team because everyone fucking hates them and I thought wow! That's way too mean! And not in character!! So I changed that.

Anyways JOLTIK FUTABA, SMALL CREATURE. The only one allowed to be teeny tiny.

I originally was planning to go with a Dewpider since I knew for a fact that I wanted her to be a bug type but then I saw Joltik and thought "wow, this bitch has so much mischievous energy" and it stuck.

She'd probably run a support build of some kind in preparation to be backup.

3. Nuzleafs replacement

Takuto Maruki.

If you thought anyone but him I would tell you to replay Super Mystery Dungeon BECAUSE I THINK IT FITS SO WELL.

Also because it's weird that Nuzleaf was like unemployed, I also made Maruki Audinos replacement as the school nurse. He can be in a weird cult and work at the school at the same time.

Yes Maruki is the one who sends our protagonists to hell! After his childhood friend Rumi never truly recovered from an accident, Maruki turned to the help of Yveltal, believing that the limbo-like state is better than suffering for a lifetime. This happiness can be easily achieved if only he had a human that could destroy the barrier on Revelation Mountain, then their plan would be foolproof..

Also important to note that actualization doesn't exist because personas and the metaverse wouldn't exist in Pokémon.

4. Classmates

Ok I got a little burnt out at this point so I don't have references for these ones but the gist is they're literally just the Shujin guys. None of them would join the exploration team (sorry :() but they would still get little side stories. I also tried to match certain characters with their metaverse powers as a little silly.

Ann: Braixen. Literally makes so much sense. Strong girlboss fire wizard like get it queen!! Fuck yeah!

Ryuji: Luxio but specifically with rivalry instead of intimidate purely because it's funny.

Makoto: Houndour. Honestly went with this because of vibes and also because she counters and covers Haru's weaknesses because I am a Makoharu stan frfr.

Haru: Galarian Ponyta. See Makoto.

Mishima: Please suggest a Pokémon for Mishima. I do not have one.

Shiho: also up for suggestions

Sumire: Eevee. Since actualization doesn't exist, she still knows she's Sumire, but is still strongly advised by Maruki to follow in her sisters footsteps considering she trained her entire life as a performer, why shatter your dreams and pursue something that has the chance to bring you pain? Specifically replaces Espurr in this au since she's being manipulated by Maruki.

Yusuke: Alolan Vulpix. Not part of the school, he lives in Lively Town with Madarame, but he gets included on this list because I have no where else to put him.

Morgana: Purrloin. Isn't in this story like at all because he got arrested for crime. Thought I'd include him anyways.

5. Extra thoughts

I have a few more characters that I know for sure are going to be here. Every change of heart is going to happen but they would most likely get arrested instead (cause no metaverse).

This really is just a self-indulgent mashup of P5 and PMD. The characters still generally keep their arcs even if they aren't as important, the overall plot is just that of PMD Super.

nastya - BANSHEE...or ghost in general but there some banshee stuff i feel could be fun to integrate. apparently in some tellings banshees can turn into crows? i love that very much. but anyways hmm..some notes abt the design in thsi post shes not quite where i want her to be. this was done on that collab canvas the other day and like...was mostly noodling things out having fun, those flamey looking bits are a very nice motion very fun to do but NOT wwhat i want for ghostya. i want her to be more. drippy. very drowned person vibes. fire and upward-floating motif not what i want. but it was fun to draw. also i think theres some potential comedy in there with “person who predicts deaths” among crew who habitually murder each other

raphaella - SOMEWHERE BTWN HARPY & SIREN (the bird kind not the mermaid kind) very excited abt her. lots of fun potential poses here. doing her design was a bit tricky- sirens tend to be just like- big birds with human heads? but i didt wanna do just that that takes away too much of her design recognizbility yknow to Just have her head. so she has a people torso, bird from the waist down, plus her arms are wings. which means she has Two pairs of wings. which i for one think is incredibly fun like you remember in httyd2 valka’s dragon w the four wings? yeah. also avent figured what bird in particular shell be based on- for the ufrry au i went w african grey parrot but dont feel like that here. ill think on it

what did you think of shadow and bone? have you read the books? i only read the duology

Thoughts on Shadow and Bone, now that you've probably seen it?

I think the show is alright? It lacks a real wow factor as far as I’m concerned, but it’s enjoyable. It’s especially enjoyable in those parts I didn’t anticipate to like / didn’t even know would be there. 

Whereas the main selling points leave a lot to be desired.

The good stuff: the visuals. The aesthetic. The overall concept. Production, casting and costumes are excellent, the setting is fascinating. The worldbuilding isn’t perfect and is sometimes confusing, which is probably due to the show jumping ahead of the books and introducing elements that happen much later in the book saga, but I’m loving the vague steampunk-y vibe of it mixed with more typical fantasy stuff and slavic-inspired lore, the fact that it’s set in dystopian Russia rather than your usual ye olde England.

I find it interesting that in this ‘verse the Grisha are simultaneously superstars, privileged elite, legendary creatures and despised outcasts, according to the context and the type of magic they wield. It’s A Lot, and so far it’s all a bit underdeveloped and messy, like a patchwork of different narratives and tropes sewn together without an organic worldbuilding structure. (there are hints to a past when they were hunted, but how did they go from that to being, essentially, an institutionalized asset to the government isn’t clear yet. There’s huge narrative potential in this, and I hope future seasons will delve into those aspects)

Many of the supporting characters are surprisingly solid. I appreciated that Genya and Zoya eventually sort of traded places, subverting the audience’s assumptions about them and their own character stereotypes, despite the little screentime they were given.

Breakout characters/ships for me were Nina/Matthias, and even more so the Crows, i.e. the stuff I didn’t see coming and knew nothing about (having only read the first book). (I thought the entire Crows subplot was handled in a somewhat convoluted way, at least in the first episodes; it was hard to keep track of who wanted Alina and why, but the Crows’ chemistry is so strong it carried the whole Plot B on its shoulders).

HELNIK. As an enemies to lovers dynamic, Helnik was SUPER on the nose, I’d say bordering on clichéd with the unapologetic, straight outta fanfiction use of classic tropes like “we need to team up to survive” and “there’s only one bed and we’ll freeze to death if we don’t take our conveniently damp clothes off and keep each other warm with the heat of our naked bodies” (not that I’m complaining, but i like to pine for my ships a bit before getting to the juicy tropetown part, tyvm). And then they’re suddenly on opposite sides again because of a tragic misunderstanding - does Bardugo hate high-conflict dynamics? It certainly seems so, because between Helnik and Darklina I’m starting to see a pattern where the slow burn and blossoming mutual trust is rushed and painted in broad, stereotypical strokes to get as fast as possible to the part where they *hate each other again* and that’s... huh. Something.

^That’s probably why I’m almost more interested in Kaz x Inej, because their relationship feels a bit more nuanced, a bit more mysterious, and a bit more unpredictable. (I didn’t bother spoiling myself about them, so I really don’t know where they’re going, but it’s refreshing to see a dynamic that the narrative isn’t scrambling to define in one direction or the other as quickly as possible)

Now, as for Darklina VS Malina... I found exactly what I expected. 

Both are ship dynamics I’m, on principle, very much into (light heroine/dark villain, pining friends to lovers) but both are also much less interesting than they claim to be, or could have been with different narrative choices. I’ll concede that the show characters are all more fleshed out and likable than their book counterparts, and the cringe parts I vaguely remembered from the books played out differently. And, well, Ben Barnes dominates the scene, he’s hot as HELL, literally every single second he’s on screen is a fuck you to Bardugo’s attempts to make his character lame and uninteresting and I’m LOVING it, lol.

But yeah, B Barnes aside, Darklina is intrinsically, deliberately made to be unshippable. 

It makes me mad, because it’s - archetypally speaking - made of shipping dynamite: yin/yang-sun and moon, opposites attract, COMPLEMENTARY POWERS AND SO ON. And what does Bardugo do with these ingredients? A FUCKING DELIBERATE DISASTER:

^ Placing the kiss so early on (season 1, episode five) effectively kills the romantic tension that was (correctly) building up until that point, and leaves the audience very little to still hope for, in terms of emotional evolution of the dynamic. 

Bardugo lays all the good stuff down as early and quickly as possible (the bonding, the conflicted attraction, the recognizing the other as one’s equal, etc) only to turn the tables and pull the rug so y’all sick creepyshippers won’t have anything to look forward to, because THEY’VE ALREADY HOOKED UP AND THAT BELONGS TO THE PAST, IT’S OVER, THEY’RE ENEMIES. This, combined to the fact that she falls for him *without* knowing who he really is, is the opposite of what I want from a heroine/villain ship (it’s basically lovers to enemies, and while that can be valid too, I wanted to see more pining and more prolonged, tormented symbolic attraction to the Shadow/Animus on Alina’s part). 

But here’s the trick: it’s not marketed as lovers to enemies - it has all the aesthetics and trappings of an enemies to lovers (the Darkling is, from the get go, villain-presenting, starting from his name), so it genuinely feels like a trollfic, or at the very least a cautionary tale *against* shipping the heroine with the tall dark brooding young villain, and I don’t think it’s cool at all. It makes the story WAY less interesting, because it humanizes the villain early on (when it’s not yet useful or poignant to the story, because it’s unearned) but it’s a red herring. The real plot twist is that the villain shouldn’t be sympathized with, just defeated: there’s a promise of nuanced storytelling, that is quickly denied and tossed aside. So is the idea of incorporating your Shadow (a notion that Bardugo must be familiar with, otherwise she wouldn’t have structured Alina and the Darkling as polar opposites who complement each other, but that she categorically refutes)

Then we have Malina. The good ship.

Look, I’m not that biased against it. I don’t want to be biased on principle against a friends to lovers dynamic that antagonizes a heroine/villain one, because every narrative is different, and for personal reasons I can deeply relate to the idea of being (unspeakably) in love with your best friend. So there are aspects of Malina that I can definitely be into, but it troubles me that in this specific context it’s framed as a regression. It’s Alina’s comfort zone, a fading dream of happiness from an idealized childhood, to sustain which the heroine systematically stunts her growth and literally repressed her own powers, something that in the books made her sickly and weak. But the narrative weirdly romanticizes this codependency, often making her tunnel vision re: going back to Mal her primary goal and centering on him her entire backstory/motivation, to the point that when she starts acting more serious re: her powers and alleged mission to destroy the Fold, it feels inorganic and unearned. 

Mal is intrinsically extraneous to Alina’s powers, he doesn’t share them, he doesn’t understand them, he has little to offer to help her with them, and so the feeling is that he’s also extraneous to her heroine’s journey, aside from being a sort of sidekick or safe harbor to eventually come back to. People have compared him to Raoul from Phantom of the Opera, and yeah, he has the same ~magic neutralizer~ vibe, tbh.

The narrative also polarizes Mal’s normalcy and relative “safety” against Aleksander’s sexy evil, framing Alina’s quasi-platonic fixation on the former as a better and purer form of love than her (much more visible and palpable) attraction to the latter. This is exacerbated by the show almost entirely relying on scenes of them as kids to convey their bond. I’m sure there are ways to depict innocent pining for your best friend that don’t involve obsessively focusing on flashbacks of two CHILDREN running in a meadow and looking exactly like brother and sister. LIKE. I get it, they’re like soulmates in every possible way, BUT DO THEY WANT TO KISS EACH OTHER?

Which brings me to a general complain: for a young adult saga centering on a young heroine and full of so many hot people, this story is weirdly unsexy? There are a lot of shippable dynamics, but they’re done in such a careless, ineffective way that makes ZERO EFFORT to work on stuff like slow burn, pining and romantic tension, and when it does it’s so heavy handed that the viewer doesn’t feel encouraged at all to fill the blanks with their imagination and start anticipating things (which is, imo, the ESSENCE of shipping). The one dynamic that got vaguely close to this is, again, Kaz and Inej, and coincidentally it’s also the one we didn’t get confirmed as romantic YET. Other than that, where’s the slow burn? What ship am I supposed to agonize over during the hiatus to season two? Has shipping become something to feel ashamed of, like an embarrassing relative you no longer want to invite in your home?

Anyway, back to Alina/Darkling/Mal, this is how the story reads to me:

girl suspects to be special, carefully pretends to be normal so she can stay with Good Boy

the girl’s powers eventually manifest; she’s forcibly separated from Good Boy

the girl’s powers attract Bad Boy who is her equal and opposite but is also a major asshole

girl initially falls for Bad Boy; has to learn a hard lesson that nobody that sexy will ever want her for who she is, he’s just trying to exploit her

also, no, there is no such thing as a Power Couple

girl is literally given a slave collar by Bad Boy through which he harnesses her power (a parody of the Twin Scars trope)

you know how the story initially suggested that the joint powers of Darkness and Light would defeat evil? LOL NO, Darkness is actually evil itself and the way you destroy evil is using Light to destroy Darkness, forget that whole Jungian bullshit of integrating your shadow, silly!

conclusion: girl realizes being special sucks. She was right all along! Hiding and suppressing her powers was the best choice! She goes back to the start, to the same Good Boy she was meekly pining for prior to the start of the story.

... there’s an uncomfortable overall subtext that reads a lot like a cautionary tale against - look, not just against darkships and villain/heroine pairings, but also *overpowered* heroines and, well... change? Growth?

Like, it’s certainly a Choice that Alina starts the story *already* in love with Mal. That she always knew it was him. The realization could have happened later (making the dynamic much more shippable, too), but no.

•Birds

-For multiple biomes, but mainly for the forests.

-Songbirds would add SO MUCH life to the otherwise quiet areas of the game

-Ravens and crows would be awesome and could use some of the parrot mimicking AI

-Cardinals in the snow biomes would bring a GORGEOUS pop of colour into the white atmosphere

-Seriously we need something to populate the sky, parrots do NOT fly like they should

-nests in trees, can find eggs in them

-doesn't really add a use but fun new feather types would be cool

•Owls

-technically still a bird but would go really well in covered rooftop forests and snow biomes

-we're already getting larger avians added in the form of vultures so why not more large birds?

-with cave update coming we need adorable rodents scurrying around

DISCLAIMER: I recognize that mobs are added to Minecraft to serve a purpose within the game and that many of these mobs would be better in mods and such, but I also feel like many of these suggestions would really bring so much more life to parts of the game that really need it. Even if they don't serve a huge purpose, they would still be really amazing additions imo.

Top 10 Grishaverse Characters

Well, now that I’ve officially read the Shadow and Bone trilogy (and the six of Crows duology but I did that a while ago) I can rank my faves. And I’m gonna. If you disagree with my opinion, you are wrong :)

10. Tamar

While I wouldn’t say her character got a lot of development over the course of the novels, she stands out as just a really cool character. She fights with axes. She’s loyal. She’s dangerous. And most importantly--she is gay :) Apparently she gets more page time in the Nikolai duology which I’ll eventually read as well she should. I hope we get more of her relationship as well. But if I’m being honest, she’s on this list because I’m bisexual.

9. Zoya

I have an issue where I spitefully like the mean girl characters when I can tell the author doesn’t want me to like them. And eventually Leigh came around on Zoya (I hear she also features in the Nikolai duology) and gave her a lot of good moments. She’s sassy, she’s badass, she is hot. These are all of the reasons I need.

8. Jesper

My bisexual disaster gunslinger son :) He’s charming and a sharp shooter. He’s funny. He is never in complete control of his life, which is relatable. I also love him and Wylan (who is not on this list but I still love him). I also like that he’s allowed to make mistakes and then atone for them.

7. Genya

I love a pretty girl who is allowed to be a good person as well. And she is. Genya is sassy, smart and wonderful all around. She is also so tragic and I always get attached to characters who go through hardship. But damn, her confrontation with the king? Literally one of the best scenes. She is a queen and deserves the entire world.

6. Nina

She’s charismatic, she’s clever, she uses her powers in an interesting way. She takes no shit from Matthias and I love an enemies to lovers couple where the woman takes no shit. She’s also beautiful AND curvy (very annoyed that the show casting doesn’t reflect this), and so rarely is the beautiful one in fiction allowed to be that. She’s just a very unique character and stands out from the crowd. I love her to pieces.

5. Nikolai

I love me some confident, charismatic, borderline cocky characters. But I especially love them when they are self aware and their charisma is mostly a show they are putting on. Beneath his social graces, Nikolai has a good heart. he’s honest, he cares about the people, he’s very, very smart. He’s really everything I love in a character and I look forward to more of him in his duology.

4. Alina

A lot of people say Alina is a boring main character. I do not fuck with those people. Alina is strong despite struggling with her power and her health. She’s persistent. She speaks her mind. She’s funny. And for much of the books she has an arc that I love for female characters--growing into power and taking charge. This is kind of yanked away from her at the end, but I don’t blame her for that. I also like that she wants power while at the same time remaining a good person, despite what anyone might suggest. I love her to pieces.

3. Kaz

My edgy son. I love his aesthetic. His gloves. His cane. His style. His ability to make a grand image. His smarts. He’s the most dramatic son of a bitch in Ketterdam but he’s got good reason. The exploration of his trauma was very well done and I hope it is captured in the show. And I’m a sucker for characters who PRETEND not to care about their crew but they DO and they would DIE for them. That’s just the best trope in the world.

2. The Darkling

Yeah, I’m problematic, but the Darkling is everything I like in a villain--calm and meticulous even when doing terrible things. Confident and charming. Extremely intelligent. And he has fun shadow powers. Every time he appears in the books, I’m having a great time. And yeah, I love his dynamic with Alina. The way they play off each other elevates them both in my list. I also love that as many terrible things as he does, he has his soft moments that make him complicated right until the very end. I personally would have explored some different aspects of his character more (and I will) but I still love what we got of him.

1. Inej

*Chanting* Knife wife, knife wife, knife wife, knife wife. Listen. I just love Inej. I love fighting women of course. But I also love silent but deadly women. I love women who blend with the shadows and defy expectations. I love women who have a strong exterior but so much vulnerability and pain beneath. Inej has a lot of layers and as bad ass as she is, she is never cold. She is warm and she cares so much and she is so fierce and beautiful. I went back and forth on the placement of a lot of these characters, but I knew Inej would be at the top. I’m so excited to see her on screen.

Anyway, that’s my completely correct and inarguable opinion. Hope everyone enjoyed :) Tell me your faves as well! I’m curious to know.

so i’m about to start writing a book 

rn im just starting research and whatnot so i dont get shit wrong

here’s what i know:

large, rowdy, tight knit group of misfit chaotic good sailors who call themselves pirates because they like The Aesthetic and also they like to steal from rich people

they keep getting dragged into various heroic shit despite just wanting to live on their cool pirate boat and piss off the law enforcement of whatever town they visit for supplies and shit (reluctant hero trope)

theyre ALL minorities, and most if not all of them are under represented and misrepresented in irl media. i want a cool fantasy pirate book full of people like me and other minorities that doesnt shunt representation to the side or focus more on the depressing bits than the story or even the characters’ personalities. i want a story where people like me get to be silly and happy and surround themselves with found family, even in a world that is so often so cruel.

i’m writing a book that i wanna write, and i’m gonna do it RIGHT. i’m including at least one autistic protagonist, but i’m pretty uneducated about how to write them, so im doing research, looking at stuff by autistic people, looking for stories by autistic people (not just published books, i’ll also be looking at stuff like @biggest-gaudiest-patronuses grony fic), etc so that i dont misrepresent anyone. i refuse to misrepresent anyone, especially people who’ve been so often misrepresented without a thought. i’ll find sensitivity readers to make sure i’m doing it right, and if i’m not, i’ll fix it.

i’m writing a diversity rich book, and i’m doing it right, goddammit

anyway i opened a google doc for the rough draft to help myself avoid procrastinating (”oh yeah i’m gonna write this really cool book!” *continuously puts it off and eventually forgets about it* yeah, no, that sounds terrible and i don’t want that)

and i put a little reminder to myself in huge text because this is a rough draft and i have a bad habit of trying to just write the final draft and then getting stuck and abandoning the story due to lack of motivation:

oh man, this might be long I warn you! I’m not sure how best to format it I think I’m gonna do like dots, coz otherwise it’ll be just a massive block of text

LOGAN:

honestly not as many thoughts as the other two aside from “nerd” and “inconsistent face” I look forward to trying to draw him one day and by look forward to I mean dread very much!!!

he’s totally not cishet look how he sits and his colour palette is pretty close to the ace flag so, though since he’s the villain for the decent amount of the game it’s important to be careful with that

I think that his design in combination with how the hobw tends to look feels antisemitic in a way that is recurring in fable that should be addressed more often I really hope if 4 ever happens they change the like good/evil morph pretty considerably, 3 is an improvement though

I don’t have many feelings towards him though as a character, there’s a thing with tone in 3 that I’ll talk about more with reaver that influences this I think, and just in general he sort of exists separately to everyone for most of the game, like he’s the player characters brother you should feel Something but there’s just no like. anything to their interactions. what’s his relationship like with theresa, with walter, with like Anyone, he just monologues at a map!!! do something talk to someone half a character is their interactions!!!! fuck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

like he’s fun I’ve made posts about him before, on a surface level he’s fun but like past that I just don’t really feel anything towards him? so it’s kind of hard to talk about him

the uh, like art of him with, the front of the armor that’s shaped like a crown is very funny that’s supposed to go on your head what are you doing

I have my own idea of how Hero stuff works because this is my canon now and I can’t be stopped and I really don’t like some parts of how they say it works, but I don’t know if now is the best place or time to talk about that, it’s partially relevant to all these characters but it’s kind of hard to explain and I feel like by the time I reach the end of this I’ll have no more words so I should really save them? I don’t know, I bring it up because it’s relevant though I just can’t decide

for real though my thoughts here are complicated because there are parts to this character that touch on things that I like(pirates,cool spooky void stuff,) but those don’t get like, any focus

I like him in 2! I only like him in 2. aside from the weird character design decisions 3 made, theres the tone thing I mentioned at logan that I’ve been thinking about lately I’m not sure I can word it right but I’ll give it a shot!

so like, I think, fable likes to be funny, the feel it generally goes for is fun and it’s a fantasy game yknow? characters like jack of blades and lady grey (and the crawler kiiiind of? a bit) are obviously bad but because of either the way the game treats them or the way the game feels or the things they do theyre fun villains who I like! reaver in 2 falls into this I think, yes pirates are real but, like knights and stuff there’s. I can’t think how to word it, there’s a difference between historical knights and fantasy knights and reaver is a fantasy pirate, the shadow court stuff is obviously bad but that’s also not real? the tone of 2 is more serious than 1 and I haven’t replayed it in a while so I’d have to play it to know how it lands Exactly. but reaver in 3 hits too real with actual things and lady grey is also evil rich person but the tone of the game carries that where 3 is serious about it and it’s effects that’s like the whole point and you can have a character and a game that does that but you can’t have that character Also be the fun villain because then it confuses things, that’s Also not to say the fun villain can’t be interesting or like metaphors or whatever obviously it’s just The Feel of the thing, fable 3 can have its evil factory guy but reaver isn’t the character for that for so many reasons. I really don’t think I explained this in a way that makes any sense I can try to word it clearer another time maybe

I have fixed this internal problem I have by pretending very very hard that reaver isn’t in 3 and that’s just some other guy and that’s fixed all of my problems, even that stuff aside from a character perspective I don’t buy it

I have a whole thing about what he’s doing in 3 because I don’t know who the onceler guy is but that’s not him. it’s very neat I think please ask me about it I need an excuse to talk about it and this is already an excuse sure but it’s already very long

anyone else noticed that he always wears things that cover his neck? I noticed it when compiling reference images for my animal crossing thing and I hate to give you the bad news but I am certain he’d never wear the sexy pirate shirt, if I had to design modern clothes for him he’d have a turtleneck

I feel like I could read into the way he dresses (gloves, high neck,yknow?) in an interesting way actually but I’d need to think on it more

also actually before I keep pretending he’s not in 3 I don’t want to brush over the transmisogyny in the poster which is supposed to be viewed as a positive thing since it shows up, like when the rebellion is progressing right? I don’t remember the exact point of the game but you get what I mean. or the dress which would be fine if he wasn’t an antagonist in this game + the poster making it clear it’s intended to be something to be made fun of

I’m always torn talking about him for like all the reasons I’ve stated and like, people talk about him plenty and maybe what I could say is different coz I think I interpret the character different to the way I see a lot, but it feels like I could put my energy elsewhere better same reason why it feels weird to draw him? he’s popular adding to that pile rather than like anyone else would feel weird of me, but my brain latches on to pirate and goes wild coz they’re important to me separately so, yknow I’m torn

I could say more probably coz like I said the fable 2 heros are my favourites and I have the most thoughts on them, but I’ve been writing this for actual hours coz words are very difficult to make and I have stuff I need to do today

I do not know if this is a headcanon request or not, but here I go:- Can you make a list of the members of the squadra and the gang, ordered from the one you like the most to the one you like the least and explain why? and - If you had to assign each of them a flower and a bird, what would you give them and why?

ok so I don’t usually take requests when they’re closed but I really love birds (and know nothing about flowers so I skipped that). Also I misread this ask and just did it for La Squadra. ALSO also I’ve tried twice now to upload it with pictures and that freaks tumblr out so I’m gonna try with just text. You can google the birds yourself. 

#1: Illuso. This smirky motherfucker. I love him. He’s cool, his stand is cool, I’m a huge sucker for long-haired guys. I just love his whole aesthetic and want to kiss that stupid grin right off his face. Really there’s not much more explanation other than “I love this motherfucker and I cannot be stopped”. Bird would be a crow because they’re curious, intelligent birds that learn through observation. Crows also have a history of being bad/spooky omens, and really, if you looked in the mirror and saw some random (sexy) dude smirking back at you, would that not feel like a bad omen? Lmao

#2: Melone. Definitely one of my favorites, because he’s just such an oddball, even in a group of killers with weird magic fighting ghosts. Like, how is a computer meant to kill? Oh god, it makes a baby? OH YOU TEACH THE BABY TO KILL?? It’s absolutely wild and I remember cracking up in disbelief when I first red his arc. Points deducted for being a creep tho. Bird is a sulphur-crested cockatoo, blonde Melone for life, lol! But also they’re intelligent birds, loud as hell, considered pests by some but beloved by others.

#3: Sorbet and Gelato. They come as a pair, obviously. Araki only gave us a teensy bit of info on them and Davidpro a bit more, but they still have a special place in my heart. Extra credit to @the-jojo-mojo for writing some absolutely amazing fics for them, easily bumping them up on this list. As for birds, Sorbet would be a great-horned owl (intimidating and scary-looking) and Gelato would be a barn owl (less scary but more creepy, if that makes sense. It does to me).

#4: Pesci! I love this dude!! I wanna support him and shower him in love and confidence. Sibling dynamics are my shit and I, as an older sister, feel deep in my soul that I must care for him. Also he reminds me of myself sometimes and so we gotta stick up for one another. And I love fishing, and the Beach Boys, so his stand is extra special to me! Bird is a common kingfisher because the fishing theme and the colors on the bird compliment his colors well, I think. Plus they’re cute and round just like Pesci.

#5: Risotto. Scares me but I respect him. I think his hat is silly but I wouldn’t even think that in his vicinity because I’m scared that he could read my mind. Really the Nero twins AU and @lasquadrahoe have made him grow on me as a person, lol. Bird is a Mississippi kite, a sleek, powerful bird of prey that looks like if it could make razor blades explode out of me, it would. It does badass stuff like nest next to wasps to protect the baby birds from vermin like squirrels and stuff, but also coexists well with other, smaller birds. Like Risotto with his squad.

#6: Ghiaccio. He is super loud but I’m also super loud (just my natural voice is loud, but not screaming) so I can relate. He seems like he’d be the kind of guy that needs to step in and explain every detail of a subject though, regardless of how well you know it or how well he knows it, and I can’t fucking stand that! HOWEVER, he has my favorite fight of the La Squadra members and I love the ice skating powers so he gets points back. Bird is a blue jay because they’re blue and they scream fucking constantly.

#7: Formaggio. I don’t have anything against him, he’s just not as stand-out to me as some of the other La Squadra guys. We’d totally be drinking buddies tho, and I’d love to go over and play with his cats. I take pride in being a tall person so the fact that he could just shrink me is upsetting, lol. Bird is a chipping sparrow because 1) they have a little orange patch of feathers on their head that looks like Formaggio’s hair and 2) they’re one of those birds that will fearlessly attack hawks and larger birds. Is it smart of him to fight such a big opponent? Maybe not. Does he win the fight anyways? You bet.

#8: Prosciutto. He’s cool, he’s collected, he looks like he’d tell me the pair of socks he wore that day are worth more than I am (but not on that low salary, they aren’t). Still love the look tho. I wish he would be nicer to Pesci. His stand has one of my favorite designs but getting old to the point of not being able to do anything for myself is one of, if not my biggest fear in life so! Sorry Prosciutto but you get bumped down for that! Bird is a cedar waxwing because look at that guy! That’s one sleek bird– a Gucci bird if I’ve seen one. They’re talented fliers too, but make it look like it’s nothing. Poor little kingfisher Pesci has a lot to learn from this guy.

This is like three days late and I would have been anger but it’s fizzled out. Still, really, Smoldering? Really???? Tagging me for a favorite characters list???? Why are you so cruel!! Jk, I love you. It should be noted that this will change over time. Like, a lot, depending on my mood.

1. Kaz Brekker (Six of Crows) He is not a good person but oh boy do I love him. He was literally be ripping out a person’s eyeball and I’m like - Heart eyes. 

2.The Darkling (Shadow & Bone) Mmmmmmm. That man is a living, breathing version of my aesthetic. I understand his motives and on some days, I can actually agree with him. His power is cool and he’s kind of like Kaz Brekker, but older. 

3. Nikolai Lanstov or Sturmhond. (Shadow & Bone) One of the many loves of my life. I love Nikolai mostly due to his quick wit, the fact that he’s another form of my aesthetic, and they relate him to a fox. And this bitch loves foxes.

4. Cardan (The Cruel Prince) That boy is a snack. He walked on the page and I just pointed at him. “That one. That’s my favorite.” 

5. Manon (Throne of Glass) Similar to Cardan, she walked on the page and ripped someone’s heart out and I fell in love. And with her iron teeth? Her nails? Sign me up.

6. Cassian (ACOTAR) Came to the realization not too long ago that Cas was my favorite bat boy. He always makes me laugh and I want him to be happy. Also, I’m looping in @the-smoldering-illyrian-beauty in this too. 

7.Nina Zenik. (Six of Crows) On another day, Nina will be higher. Depends on how hyped up I am or how gay I’m feeling. Most days, I feel like Nina. I’m hella curvy and I love food. Also. Dangerous. 

8. Tyrannus "Baz" Basilton Grimm-Pitch (Carry On) If you guys haven’t read Carry On yet, wtf is wrong with you. I just read it recently and mmmm. So good. Anyway. Like most characters, I loved Baz as soon as he walked in. His openness about his sexuality is something I admire. 

9. Nik Malikov (The Illuminae Files) Once again, if you haven’t read this series yet, wtf. The style of the books is like something I’ve only seen in a kids book, written out in emails, security footage, texting, and - my god. It’s amazing. The character doesn’t show up until the second book, Gemina, but god I loved him. He’s witty, sarcastic, and so ready to throw down. Also. He’s covered in tattoos and just. Yum.

10. Racetrack Higgins (Newsies! Live) Surprised that I almost forgot about this guy, but I love him. I don’t know why. He talks in most scenes and the guy can’t even fucking say ‘oyster’ correctly! Why do I love him? IDK. But I will fight you over Race Higgins.

My stomach hurts really bad right now. So I am going to lay down soon. But today's been a pretty nice day. Did not feel like a day off though.

I hate that my stomach hurts again. My stomach hurt really bad last night and after James friends left it didn't really stop. I washed my face and that helped cool me down at least. But it took like 2 hours before I was comfortable enough to actually sleep. So that sucked. It actually hurts worse tonight but at least I'm in my own bed and can try to deal with pain alone and not bothering James with my whining. Not that he would think that it was annoying but still.

We woke up this morning at 7 and I made him stay in bed until 7:30 because I was exhausted and I didn't want him to get up yet. I actually slept pretty well. And once I was dress I basically just left. I wanted to keep my momentum going because I really wanted to clean the apartment and finish my heart. It was cool out. But I was fine I had a sweater. And biking back to my house is easier because it's a one way that direction.

I got back to my place and unpacked. Laid out my dress for tonight. And then I cleaned. I vacuumed and I Swiffered. I cleaned out the fridge. I Cloroxed the inside of the fridge. I try to just get rid of all the Crows Nest that I've been feeling in the apartment. That took a while and then I worked on my diorama. I hadn't finished something and I didn't realize it. I went to photograph it and realized I had forgotten to make the whole Lantern section. So I quickly did that. I'm actually pretty happy with how it turned out even though I made in about 2 minutes. The rest of it took me a really long time so I'm glad I'm happy with it.

At noon I was ready for my interview. And then 1215 came. And I was like oh maybe she forgot. Which is fine it happens. I sent an email asking if she wanted to reschedule for later this week or meet in person since I live in the neighborhood. And then I actually headed over to the Walters. I wanted to drop off my ID card since I'm not volunteering anymore. And while I was getting ready for that I checked my email and I actually had an email from the teaching position. It looks like they're going to offer me the job but they can't actually do that until they have funding from the city approved. And they're not going to know about that until mid this week. But if all goes well I can be starting on the 22nd. Terrifying but I'm very excited. I am trying not to be too excited because funding could not come through but we got to stay positive.

When I was at the Walter's I left a note for the woman who I was having interview with there as well. And I got complimented on the embroidery I done on my volunteer bag. It was nice talkin to Laurel and then I headed down to Fleet Week.

It was wickedly busy down there. Like not as bad as I guess like City from what I saw but still very bad. I had wanted to go on some of the larger ships that the lines were incredibly long. So I just ended up walking around the outside. I whenever to the city of bismuth which is the Pontoon ship. Honestly the only one I care about. But the line was like 2 hours long. So I decided to just go up to the fence and talk to the guy with big gun. I asked him what the crew size was and we ended up talking for 10 minutes. He kept adjusting his gun and getting the same goofy smile on his face that James does when I talk and get too excited about something. All smiling and blushing. That was my one big flirting moment of the day but I like to tell people that I was flirting with all the sailors. But really I mostly just walked around and people watched. I ran into Chris and said hi. But the girls are just too crazy down there so I headed over to Fell's point.

Still crowded but much less lines. I got to see the Coast Guard Eagle tall ship. And that was cool because I didn't even know that the coaster had a tall ship. I did flirt with the sailors there as well. But mostly I was just fascinated cuz I had no idea that the Coast Guard had sale powered ships still. I mean that has an engine but that's really cool that the Coast Guard has a sail ship. And it was nice to walk around the back. I decided after I saw that one that I didn't even see any of the other ships. I'll probably try to see the godspeed tomorrow since it's right next to Constellation but not ships are letting us go below deck to my knowledge. And really all I care about is what the living spaces look like anyway. So I'm not that torn up about it.

Since I was down at fellas I walked around a little bit. Wanting a couple of the stores. I found a new store that just open today that is all Baltimore theme stuff that I think James would love. It's all novelty shirts and stuff. I like the aesthetic though. And I walked around the Goodwill for a bit too. I didn't have any luck there finding stuff for James apartment or the things I needed. I decided that I really should just go get lunch.

I went down to the harbor again and I had pizza. Listen to a podcast. And then I went to Marshalls to get winter lotion. I decided I want to switch over from Citra sense since its fall now. And had really good luck. I got a philosophy brand in the clearance section that's cream and mint. And I love it. And that's a really expensive Brands usually so it was nice to get it for under $10.

It stopped at constellation and talk to Frank for a while. Dropped off the half of my pizza to have lunch for tomorrow. And after a little bit of wandering around. I went and Build-A-Bear and found a life jacket that I return to the dragon boats. I had it home. I had seen some of the Thunderbirds going over. And that was interesting. But really I was tired. And I need to be in the house for a while just by myself.

I got back here and I took a very long shower. That made me feel a lot better. I basically spent the next two hours lounging in a robe watching TV. Playing with sweet pea. I wasn't exactly sure what time James was coming so I wasn't sure when to start getting ready. But ended up all working out just fine.

He got here about 6. And I had finished putting on my makeup and my dress a few minutes before that. I felt like I look really good tonight. My makeup was just on point and the dress look great and it was pink for the event was perfect. So I felt really good. And James looks super cute too. He always does. He let me do his hair.

We went and grabbed the bus to go to his parents house. I didn't have my charm card because I didn't know that we are going to be taking a paid bus. So he paid for me which was nice of him. We got up to his parents house and his mom had some of her friends there. And she had put out snacks. So we had snacks and talked. I got to talk about art for a while. And his mom had gotten the catalogs are ready for the show so I read through them which was good because I was not going to have a lot of time to read tonight while we were there. It was nice being able to talk about my art for a little bit too. I feel no more confident than when I'm talking about my art.

Me and James walked over to the BMA first. Because the adults were going to be driving. But just down the street we found a box of free stuff and there was a gold-framed mirror. Which if you know anything about me that is one of my favorite things. So he carried it back to his parents house for me. The adults all got a big kick out of that when we walk back in the door. But then we were back to the museum. We sat outside on the bench while we waited for them since they were the ones with the tickets. Or at least the information on how to get in. We watched a bunch of old people coming in and just talk. It was nice. I like to watching all the different people dressed up. A lot of people with John Waters mustaches drawn on or styled. So much pink so much gaudy. It was a blast. My dress was very very low cut so knowing that I was not going to be sticking out because of that was a little bit of a comfort.

They don't got there and we went inside. The line to get into the actual exam it was wicked long. So we all decided since it would have been wait anyway to just go up to the reception part and have snacks. Which worked out really well for me because I was starving and my stomach hurt. We had a bunch of snacks. And then me and James went and got a photo booth photo. He was so awkward looking in the top two photos it basically looked like a high school prom picture. So when the third one I made him dance a second just to get him to smile bigger. And in the last one I kissed him. It was just very sweet. After that we decided to go to the actual exhibit. It was a little bit of wait in line but not a big deal. We ended up being the first ones in in our group going up to the actual line. And then the last ones in when the door is opened. At least for our group. I asked the guy at the front and he said over 700 people to come in already that night. That's wild.

The show itself was fabulous. I would have probably changed the wall color. From the white Cube. But honestly I think for the commentary he was trying to make it worked well. There was one piece that is just a black curtain with sound coming out. It's a fake video installation. And I fucking love that piece. It was probably my favorite piece of the night. But honestly some of the pieces were so good and so instagrammable. I am glad that we're going to be able to go back. And spend more time. And read everything. Because there was just a lot of stuff that I would have liked to spend more time with. I am really glad that we got a picture in front of the have sex in the voting booth button. I apparently caught James off-guard when I kissed him. He was nervous enough about asking someone else. But it was very cute. And honestly the show is great and I can't wait to go back.

We headed out and went and found his parents again. And while we were standing there with his mom John Waters walked right past us. And I kicked my PO up and looked over my shoulder and told him great show. And he said hi to me. And it was just such a surreal moment. He's much shorter than I imagined. I don't know why but I always imagined to be 8 feet tall. And just lanky as all hell. Definitely a highlight of my night.

My stomach still hurt pretty bad though and we had seen the show and had the snacks. I wasn't really interested in choosing too much more than that. So we went to go get the bus. It was a nice ride back even though I was still feeling like complaining. We got back to my apartment and James made me a drink. I mean it's just Crystal Light. But there's something comforting about that because that's something I always drink when I don't feel very good. I jokingly told him I was going to make a handbook for the care and keeping of Jesse. And he said yes please make that. So I might jokingly make that. We'll see.

Sweet P just came over and wormed his way onto my lap. So he is all curled up on me now. Which is nice but I also would really like to go lay down. So I'll give him a couple minutes and then get to bed. I'm working all day tomorrow with Frank. I think I'm going to be doing the firing again and Frank said that he would spot me if I need help. I think it's going to be a fairly busy day. But we'll see what happens. I don't know if consolation itself is being busy or just the pier. We're still caustic money so I don't know if people are actually coming in that much. We'll see. I think it'll still be a pretty good day. Sleep well everyone.

the plot of good light vs. evil dark have been done to death (pun not intended) though so i was seriously expecting a twist in which the Undead King wasn’t REALLY Crow. why did Crow want the Ring of Undying anyway? for that Egyptian mummy aesthetic? i will admit that’s cool but i would have also liked if the Undead King was this fucked-up dark elf monster, drawing influence from Crow’s original appearance... if we Gotta still have him be the true culprit
