Ok well no one asked me for this (potentially) unpopular opinion but I'm going to give it anyway. I do agree that the nuclear family is bad, but quite often you see people making that argument by trying to assert that it's bad because it's a Western capitalist innovation which is unsustainable in a world where both parents need to work in order to pay the rent and also encourages parents to be authoritarian, and extended families all living together under a single roof such as is allegedly commonplace in non-Western societies is a much better way of raising kids. And my opinion is that no it isn't.

10/10 I really liked this book. I liked how they went off of that little nursery rhyme. And I think the way they changed the title to fit the times was clever. It’s still a part of the rhyme but less offensive. There are definitely points where “oooh you can’t say that anymore.. oh boy.. no no no..” I was shook at one point, but that’s what it was like at that point in time.

I didn’t really mean to read it in one sitting, but it was good and well paced so I read all of it. Dunno what time it was when I started reading, but I would make a guess that it took me between 2 hours and 90 minutes. Usually shorter books like this take about the same time as a movie. Like coralline or a Nancy Drew book, or a Shakespeare play.

the funniest meltdown ive ever had was in college when i got so overstimulated that i could Not speak, including over text. one of my friends was trying to talk me through it but i was solely using emojis because they were easier than trying to come up with words so he started using primarily emojis as well just to make things feel balanced. this was not the Most effective strategy... until. he tried to ask me "you okay?" but the way he chose to do that was by sending "👉🏼👌🏼❓" and i was so shocked by suddenly being asked if i was dtf that i was like WHAT???? I just think that 'animals are living intelligent creatures that have feelings and deserve to be respected' and 'when done properly farming is beneficial to both people and animals and there's nothing wrong with raising and killing animals for food, clothing, and other products' are concepts that very much can and should coexist

#i think a lot of people get too carried away in farming discourse to actually remember both of these things #some people are so aggressively anti-farming that they forget that meat and fur are necessary for some people #and that farming helps prevent overhunting of certain species #but some people are so aggressively pro-farming that they begin to think of animals as objects #that only exist to provide them with a product #animals deserve to be treated with respect and be given the best care possible while they're alive #but that doesn't mean that its a bad thing for them to die

Like that unbridaled form of joy where you make a self insert OC who super cool and everyone loves them and they have every superpower in the world SHOULD be something a kid makes, it nourishes their ability to create things for fun and not be stifled by "oh but what if my character is too overpowered and cringey...". whatever
