#catch me writing a very angry complaint to the order

complaining about tristamp under the cut so if you liked it just keep scrolling. it’s not going in any tags because this isn’t an invitation for discussion, just venting. i’m not pulling my punches with this and i am not looking for a rebuttal if you felt differently. warning: this will be a Very Long Read, and probably contain trimax spoilers. now that the boundary’s placed, let’s go.
this is gonna be pretty stream of consciousness, so i’ll type as i go and then double back to break up the walls of text for easier reading.
now. i’m very critical. i criticize the things i love, mostly out of love, because i want them to be better! so just keep that in mind whenever i talk shit about this show. i don’t like to post when angry, because i think i get a little too mean sometimes and have to walk it back a bit later, but my god. i can’t say i enjoy this as an adaptation, or retelling, or reboot, or what have you. it’s gorgeous, there’s clearly heart in it, but it’s just some incredibly sloppy narrative composition/pacing, blatant disregard for the emotional impact of the original by chopping it up and rearranging the pieces, watering down of the characters, like. this feels like lazy fanfiction.
it’s just like... maybe if i grab some things out of the discord server that i wrote when more level headed my point will come across better. this should cover my issues with the entire season as a whole, not just the finale (cause honestly...i haven’t been able to fully articulate my problems with it yet). to preface this, i DO have good things to say about stampede, and you’ll probably catch glimpses of it in some of these screenshots (i keep 99% of my discussions of trigun contained to the Greater Gamer Polycule in order to avoid internet strangers who think a differing opinion is invitation to debate someone). but we’re not here for praise. we’re here for criticism.
Tumblr media
so, i had some speculations about the reworking of the timeline we were seeing in stampede, and now that the season is over i can concede that they really did waste an entire season of my time to set up trigun proper. i say wasted cause like. nothing happened lmao. we got hardly any real plot and ZERO character development. these people are not friends. it’s aggravatingly bad character writing. i originally thinking they were ‘remixing’ the plot because they did just move a bunch of mid/late game trimax plot points up into their drawn out prologue. it...does not sit right with me, because it makes these plot points, which were very impactful in the manga, feel unearned.
Tumblr media
as you can see, it’s NOT that i’m close minded to the potential of the reboot on principle alone. i have found some joy in the (very rare) moments of levity, intentional or not, that we did get in stampede. but overall. you know. just some bad adaptational changes.
Tumblr media
^ me explaining the concept of stampede to a friend thinking of looking into trigun for the first time, as secondary evidence that i don’t hate stampede at all, especially not on principle.
Tumblr media
i had hope! i wanted to believe this would be a version of trigun i could love as sincerely as i loved the manga and 98 anime (we’re not gonna talk much about 98 in this post, because i recognize stampede as being more of a retelling of the manga, and my complaints today are centrally about the narrative structure, emotional tone, and characterizations of the cast, etc)
Tumblr media
speaking of narrative structure! here’s one of the pitfalls i found in how stampede handled its pacing and character dynamics
Tumblr media
more of what i had to say about the characterizations just being...off, alongside the mismanaged (imo) emotional tone and pacing of relationships. this example Does mention the 98 anime but was part of a larger discussion comparing all three versions of the story. overall we just don’t get to see these characters being given room to breathe and really get to get to know one another, have fun and bond on an adventure. and that consequently has a severe negative effect on the weight of their interactions the deeper we get into the show. these people just aren’t friends.
Tumblr media
lucian’s gay ass summoning the horrors moment... but yeah. let’s lean into this topic actually. because i’ve had a LOT to say about how important vash and wolfwood’s relationship is for both their characters in the manga and how my knowledge of the manga and 98 anime has to do all the emotional heavy lifting for me to feel anything when watching their stampede iterations interact.
Tumblr media
got a little mad about this one, huh!
to wrap things up here i’ll leave you with one of my longer rants from after episode 11
Tumblr media Tumblr media
so. yeah. i’m like super mentally and emotionally drained after this finale.

Maybe a reader who is usually pretty timid curses like a sailor when angry? Maybe something really angered them or maybe they just stubbed their toe and tripped 😂 with Xiao and Zhongli?
Expletives
Warning -> cursing (like, Ima write out some curse words)
Includes: Zhongli, Xiao
character x GN reader  |  Anthology
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Zhongli
Zhongli is a very open and accepting person - even if that person acts in a different way than he would expect, or from how he would act
In fact, most people would consider his views pretty progressive. He holds true to older traditions while also participating in modern events or pastimes, demonstrating his ability to be flexible
He might be stunned a bit if you suddenly started throwing around expletives - especially if he’s never heard you use them before, but he knows times have changed and it may be more normal for people to express themselves with such - colorful - language
“Fuuuuck!” you scream into your hands. It’s mid-afternoon and you’re heading home after a stressful morning out. You’re so irritated that you slip into habits you don’t normally delve into.
“This is so fucking stupid, like who the fuck does that shit?” You don’t even notice the handsome gentleman walking past you until he calls your name.
“Y/N?” Peering over the tips of your fingers, you catch Zhongli walking toward you. His head is slightly tilted and he’s giving you an interesting expression.
“Zhongli!” You drop your hands from your face you whip them off on your clothes. “Sorry, I didn’t see you headed this way.”
“You seem rather angry.” He stops a bit before you and the height difference is striking.
“Uh, hmm, yeah. I just finished dealing with a … “ You’re trying to find the best word to use to describe the fucking idiot you were just talking to. “... a challenging citizen complaint.”
“Ah yes, that doesn’t sound pleasurable. Are you heading back into the city?”
“Yes! On my way now.” Zhongli turns as if to signal he will be joining you. You’re hoping he doesn’t mind your choice of words. A proper man like him wouldn’t dare use that type of language … would he?
“Language can be used in such interesting ways, don’t you agree.” He looks your way and raises the corner of his mouth. You can only nod in agreement and look down at your feet, placing each foot carefully in front of the other.
He spends the remainder of your walk sharing with you some of his personal favorite curses from times long gone.
Xiao
Xiao doesn’t care - there is no reason for him to be bothered or concerned about anything you do
If you want to hang around him, sure, I guess. Want to join him on a mission, he won’t really be open to the idea but he won’t push you away either. You decide to dress differently, cut your hair, speak funny one day and not the next, he might find the last one annoying, but he won’t invest the time to say anything about it
So when you let loose the flurry of curse words while fighting a difficult opponent, he isn’t necessarily shocked, he might actually find the energy enjoyable
“This motherfucker!” You shout, shoving one of the slimes back. “Piece of shit! I’ll murder your ass!” you were so angry at the slimes for being way more difficult to get rid of than they should be. It was like they ate something or were just really out to get you into a terrible mood. You threw out a couple more curses before finally killing it. When it’s gone, you're left huffing and frustrated.
“You good?” Xiao walks up next to you, his spear in hand.
“Ugh, fuck man. Why was that so fucking hard?” Standing up you wipe the sweat from your brow. You see Xiao giving you a curious look. “What? Do I have slime residue on me?” You check out your clothes, twisting your body in order to see if any bits landed on your back.
“No, I’ve just never heard you speak that way before.”
“Oh … I was just really pissed … sorry.” You feel embarrassed, letting your emotions get the better of you. You’re not really sure how he feels about the ‘choice language’ you’ve decided to use.
“Whatever, are you ready to move on?” He turns and heads in the direction of your next target. You chase after him, flicking your sword to remove the sticky residue.
The next time you go to visit Xiao, you find he’s started to use some interesting new words

There's a ring on Bucky's finger.
It's the first thing Tony notices when he walks into the bar for Natasha and Sharon's joint bachelorette party. He stands there in the doorway, frozen and staring until someone clears their throat pointedly behind him, and he mumbles an apology as he moves out of the way.
He thinks about turning around and not coming back, just ditching the event entirely and maybe even the wedding tomorrow, but he tosses the ridiculous thought the second it comes. He promised Sharon when she asked him to be her man of honor that he could handle Bucky being Nat's. Living on the other side of the country afforded him to miss the rest of the events and planning along the way, and he could deal with one day of being cordial to his ex, even if the day comes with walking down an aisle together.
But now there's a ring on Bucky's finger.
The silver catches the light, and it's on prominent display with his left hand wrapped around a beer bottle. It shouldn't be possible for him to have moved on that quickly. Eight months shouldn't be long enough to bury three years of memories. Three years of hopes and dreams and plans for a future built together. Years of love so blindingly intense that it burrowed into Tony's soul to make a home and refused to be evicted just because it was supposed to be over.
Tony wonders what the timeline is. Did he find someone new while Tony was still just beginning to pick up his own scattered pieces? A first date for him while Tony was barely getting out of bed. When was it that he replaced Tony as the last person to have his heart? And how did he find forever in someone else so soon after losing the one he used to call his soulmate?
Natasha notices him first, still hovering near the entrance, and she raises a single eyebrow that calls him a coward. He rolls his eyes at the accusation, though it's accurate. She elbows Sharon to catch her attention, and before he knows it the entire small group is turning their heads his way, giving him no choice but to join them.
It's less bachelorette party and more pre-wedding celebration with the crowd they've gathered, all mutual friends of both brides with no regards for gender traditions that usually come with this night. Tony used to fit in well with them all, back when gatherings like this were just a typical Friday night. But he made himself an outsider between the move to California and the breakup with Bucky. All he has now with most of them is a dead group chat that hasn't been used in months. He wonders which one of them made the new one without him in it.
Sharon is the first to pull him into a hug, then Natasha follows suit. He gets a nod from Sam, a wave from Clint, and what might pass as a smile from Steve. Bucky stares so intensely that Tony can feel his eyes with his back turned, but when Tony looks his way, he pretends to be interested in the floor.
He had a plan before the ring threw him off. Step one should have been the entrance. Head held high, shoulders square, perfect outfit that shows everything off and compliments the Malibu tan he has now. Step two should be nonchalance. A light hearted greeting to everyone, accompanied by an easy grin and relaxed body language, and catching up with subtle brags slipped in. Show them all that he's doing better than he ever was, sitting on top of the world these days, even if most of the time it feels like he's barely above rock bottom.
Step three in his ideal scenario involved Bucky breaking down and begging to get him back. Some versions even had him on his knees for it, with tears running down his face. Others required it to be raining outside, and the cloudless sky ruined that before the ring on Bucky's finger did.
With steps one and three out the window, he tries to salvage step two.
“Hey,” Tony starts, a little too loud. He swallows the lump in his throat and tries again, “Hey, Bucky. It's good to see you.”
Bucky nods, a strained, jerky motion. “Yeah, you too. How, uh, how have you been?”
“Good. Really good, actually. Company just had its highest sales quarter yet, so it’s been a little crazy around there, but good.”
“Good,” Bucky repeats, and there’s a long awkward pause.
“And what about you?” Tony asks, and then because he can’t help himself, he adds, “I see you got engaged. Or, hell, I guess it could be married, even.”
Bucky freezes with parted lips and wide eyes for the briefest of moments, like he wasn’t expecting Tony to know about it or bring it up, and his eyes shift to the ring on his hand and stay there.
“Yeah,” he says slowly. “Engaged. Last week.”
Tony ignores the ache in his chest and plasters on a smile like he’s happy for him. “Congratulations. Who’s the lucky guy?”
“Oh, you wouldn’t know him. Steve introduced us. They work together.”
“So he’s at the museum then? I thought you used to say that you hated all those stuffy guys and Steve was the only one worth knowing.”
Bucky smiles, a fond thing that widens the crack in Tony’s heart. “Yeah, well, I guess I was wrong. Felix is a great guy.”
Tony resists the urge to roll his eyes. Stupid name that probably matches a stupid, punchable face.
Some masochist thing pulls at him to make him keep digging for more information, a twisted need to know even as each word pushes the knife in deeper. He aims for casual, leaning back against one of the high top tables as he asks, “So how long have you been together?”
“Just a couple of months. Kind of fast, I know, but when you’re sure about something, it doesn’t really matter, right? Why waste time waiting?”
“Right, of course,” Tony says, a little flatter than he intends. “So why isn’t he here tonight? Hope it wasn’t to spare my feelings, because it’s really not necessary.”
Bucky falters, “It’s not? You, uh, you’re dating someone, then?”
Tony nods, and he wishes he had grabbed a drink before this so he could hide behind it as he lies through his teeth. “Only a few weeks, though. A little too early to be a wedding date, but I’m sure your guy will be there tomorrow right?”
“Oh, um, yeah, definitely. Why wouldn’t he be, right? There’s no reason I can think of,” Bucky says, stumbling around it. “But tell me more about your thing. Your person. How’s that going?”
Tony shrugs, and he finally pulls off that easy smile he’s been trying for. “Well, it’s not get engaged in a couple of months good, but it’s been really great. We’re taking it slow. Trying not to rush anything and just get to know each other first. I think it could really be something, though.”
“That’s good,” Bucky mumbles. “You deserve something good.”
He isn’t meeting Tony’s eyes anymore, almost like he’s upset that Tony moved on, and the vindictive part of Tony wants to be happy about it, but another part wants to be angry because it isn’t fair. It’s not fair to act like Tony should stay stuck in time, forever longing for him when he already moved on with someone else first. It’s hypocritical and selfish, even if Tony is lying about there being anyone else.
“Well, I’m gonna go get a drink,” Tony says, pushing down every feeling. “Should catch up with everyone else, too, while I’m at it. I’ll talk to you later.”
He heads over to the bar and isn’t surprised when Sharon joins him a moment later, right after he orders a double shot of whiskey. She puts an arm around his shoulder and asks, “Are you okay?”
“Why wouldn’t I be?” Tony laughs, running a hand through his hair. “My ex is engaged to somebody else and apparently doing really fucking well. Meanwhile, I’m making up fake boyfriends that I’m taking it slow with, because last week I went on my first real date in eight months and cried in the bathroom in the middle of it. And then, at the end of the night, he literally told me to my face that he didn’t think a second date was a good idea. We weren’t even talking about it, Sharon. He said it unprompted when we were still ten minutes from his apartment, and I was driving.”
Sharon nods slowly as she processes the rant. “He told you he got engaged?”
“Yeah, thanks for not telling me, by the way. It was really fun to get blindsided by it.”
She ignores the complaint to ask, “What else did he tell you, exactly?”
“Oh, just the whole line about how you know when you know, and Felix is such a great guy, and all that bullshit.”
“Felix,” Sharon repeats.
Tony knocks back the rest of his drink and orders another. “Please tell me he’s not better looking than me. Tell me it’s a downgrade. Don’t lie, because I know I have to meet him tomorrow, but please give me something that will make this better.”
“Well, I can guarantee he’s not as attractive as you. But he’s a little too perfect, you know? Like how could this guy possibly be real, he’s so unbelievably perfect,” Sharon says.
“I told you to make me feel better, not worse.”
Sharon shakes her head with a smile, the arm around him tightening into an approximation of hug. “I wouldn’t worry about it too much. I don’t think they’re going to last. He’s kind of flaky, too. Always cancelling at the last minute and all that. Bet he won’t even show tomorrow.”
The amusement on her face that she’s failing to hide confuses him. He’s starting to feel bad, though, for making the night about him when it should be about her and Nat.
Resolving not to dwell on it anymore, he squeezes the hand on his shoulder and says, “Alright, enough sad drinking, and definitely enough about me. We’re celebrating you and Nat and a lifetime of sickeningly wonderful happiness for both of you.”
Sharon grins, “Hell yeah, we are.”
“Shots?”
“Is that even a question?”
_____________
He wakes up with a headache and hazy memories. Shots of tequila that turned into shots of vodka when Nat got involved, then Clint’s terrible suggestion to try a shot of every liquor they had to offer. He vaguely remembers the round of toasts and drunken impromptu speeches from everyone, locking eyes with Bucky and failing to look away on both their parts. There’s a blur of wandering hands and heated, messy kisses. A bathroom stall turned into a cab ride which turned into his hotel room. He knows what he’ll find next to him when he opens his eyes, and guilt comes in full force.
“I know you’re awake,” Bucky says, voice still rough with sleep. It used to be Tony’s favorite sound in the world. “And I know we’re both sorry about what happened, but pretending to be asleep isn’t fixing nothin’.”
Tony shifts over to his back, and if there was any question before about what happened between them, the all too familiar ache in his body would answer it. He stares up at the ceiling to avoid the acres of bare skin on display next to him.
“You should probably leave,” Tony says to the walls. “I’m sure your fiancé is wondering where you are.”
“I doubt it.”
Tony puts an arm over his eyes, partly to block out the light that makes them ache and partly to hide his face. “Just go, okay? It was a mistake, and it won’t happen again, and we don’t have to talk about it.”
“Was it a mistake?” Bucky asks. “It didn’t feel like one to me.”
He doesn’t answer, and it’s soft and broken when Bucky says his name. Too much for him to handle.
Tony pushes back the blankets and searches for Bucky’s clothes in the mess they’ve made. He finds the shirt first and throws it at him. “You’re engaged, which means it was a mistake.”
His boxers are on the back of the couch, jeans right in front of the door, and they join the pile on Bucky’s lap. “You promised the rest of your life to somebody else, and I’m pretty sure fidelity is supposed to go with that.”
He tosses a shoe in the general direction of the bed, and it hits the nightstand with a loud thud. The second shoe is still in his hand when Bucky gets up and walks over to him, taking it and letting it drop to the floor.
His eyes hold a level of intensity that Tony has spent months dreaming about, and Tony couldn’t look away or move from this spot even if he tried.
“Felix isn’t real,” Bucky says. “I made him up when you asked, because I didn’t want to tell you the truth that I haven’t moved on in the slightest. That I’m so pathetic that I’ve spent the last eight months wearing an engagement ring that I bought for a guy who doesn’t love me anymore because I don’t know how to let him go.”
Tony stops breathing. “What?”
Bucky slides the ring from his finger, holding it between them so Tony can see the inscription. Always yours. He can’t remember the last time he heard the words get spoken.
“When?” Tony asks hoarsely. “When did you get that and why didn’t you ever ask me?”
“About a year ago,” Bucky says, slipping it back on his own finger. He sits back on the edge of the bed and stares down at it, twisting it around. “I thought about doing it on your birthday, but Nat and Sharon had just gotten engaged the week before and I didn’t want to take anything away from them. You were working a lot of late nights after that, and I thought it would be better to wait until things slowed down. You were so tired all the time, and you deserved a better proposal than when you’re falling asleep in the middle of dinner. It never slowed down, though. And then you got that big promotion and somehow we fell apart instead. If I’m honest, I still don’t really know how. One minute I’m getting ready to come with you, and the next you’re telling me not to bother.”
Tony sits down next to him, shoulders touching, and he pulls Bucky’s left hand into his. “You didn’t really want to go.”
“That’s not true,” Bucky says, but Tony shakes his head.
“All you talked about was how much you would miss New York. How much you’d miss your friends and your family and your job. Every day, everywhere we went. Even the fucking hot dog stands got sonnets about them. It really didn’t take a genius to figure out that you weren’t exactly looking forward to leaving.”
“I still would have gone for you,” Bucky argues. “I told you I would go anywhere with you, if it was what you wanted.”
“And then what? You move with me, and you’re miserable all the time, because my job never slows down so I’m still not around as much as you want, except now it’s compounded because you’re in a city that you hate with no one else that you know. You resent me for making you go, and the outcome is the same in the end either way.”
“Or I move with you, and I finally ask you to marry me like I’ve wanted to since almost the day we met. I find new friends and a new job, and even if it’s not perfect, it’s still worth it because at the end of the day I have a husband coming home to me.”
Tony runs his thumb over the ring and murmurs, “I wanted you to be happy. I didn’t think I could do that for you anymore.”
Bucky cups his cheek, tilting his head up to meet his eyes. “Don’t take this the wrong way, but baby, you’re an idiot.”
“Oh, thanks,” Tony laughs.
“You’re my idiot, if that helps.”
Tony smiles, still fragile but growing more hopeful. “Am I?”
“Always have been,” Bucky says. “Always will be if you stop assuming I’m going to leave you all the time. Let me decide for myself what I’m willing to sacrifice for us.”
Tony nods slowly, then says, “I’m sorry for ending it like that.”
“I’m sorry for making you feel like you had to.”
Tony climbs into his lap, circling his arms around his neck, and Bucky pulls him in closer with his hands on Tony’s hips. The ring is strange to feel against his skin, but also completely right. He wants it to stay there and to mean what it was always supposed to. Wants one of his own to match.
“We can fix it, right? We can be us again?”
“I don’t know,” Bucky says, and Tony’s heart sinks for just a moment. “Is your boyfriend as real as my fiancé?”
Tony laughs again in relief, “Yeah, they’d be a good pair.”
“I knew you had to be lying. You’ve never taken it slow in your life,” Bucky grins.
“Do you want me to start now?”
Bucky flips them over in one fluid motion, and he kisses up his throat as he murmurs, “Absolutely not.”

Punishment | Seo Changbin x Reader
 This was so much fun to write, although I’m pretty sure I went slightly overboard. Oh well :)
Warnings: hard dom! Changbin, fem reader, sir kink, degradation, spit kink, choking, hair pulling, impact play (spanking and a face slap), oral sex (m rec), edging, overstimulation, unprotected sex, creampie.
Requested: yip
Word count: 3.9k
You knew it wasn’t a good idea. In fact, it was probably one of the worst idea’s you’d ever had in your lifetime. But that didn’t stop you. You’d completely ignored Changbin’s warning glares as you continued to tease him throughout the day. He and the rest of the boys had finally gotten a few days off and you were hanging out with them all for the day before Changbin came back to your apartment to stay before he had to go back to work. You’d teased him the entire time, knowing full well that it would only end poorly for you. But sometimes, you couldn’t help yourself. Changbin had somehow managed to tolerate your actions for the most part. But it was during lunch that it really went downhill for you.
You and the rest of the boys had found a small, quiet restaurant to have lunch at. Lunch had been going fine until you’d started to tease Changbin under the table. At first, you’d just placed your hand on his thigh, but pretty quickly you’d moved it up until you were slowly palming him through his pants. He was surprised with the bold move. Usually, you were pretty well behaved for him, only occasionally acting up. It was very rare for you to have days where you were on your worst behaviour.
He’d put a quick stop to your actions by tightly gripping your wrist and placing it at your side with a warning look. You’d refrained yourself from your actions only to spend the rest of lunch shamelessly flirting with very single other member. And to say that Changbin was pissed off was an understatement. As soon as lunch was over, he’d grabbed your hand in a painful grip and made up some bullshit excuse to the others for why you two had to leave so soon before dragging you out of the restaurant and to your car.
By the time you both made it back to your apartment, you knew you were in for the punishment of your life. He’d been silent towards you for the entire trip home it was painfully obvious that he was angry. Walking in the front door of your apartment, he still doesn’t speak to you until the door is closed and you’ve both taken your shoes off.
“Go to the bedroom. And you better not have any fucking clothes on by the time I get there.” The words send a shiver of fear and arousal down your spine, causing you to grow wetter. You don’t say anything in response, instead just turning and quickly heading straight to the bedroom.
It doesn’t take you long to undress, but before you take your bra and underwear off, you make yet another poor decision. You decide that you’re already in trouble with Changbin, so how much worse would it be if you decided to leave the undergarments on? You were about to find out.
You’d only just taken a seat on the bed when he walks in, pausing in the doorway.
“I gave you simple instructions and you can’t even follow them,” he says, disappointment lacing his tone. He steps forward and sits on the end of the bed, facing away from you. “Come here.”
It’s not too often that Changbin actually scares you, considering he’s usually such a big softy. But right now, when he says those two words, you’re more scared than ever before. But in the best way.
As soon as you get within reach of him, Changbin grabs you and roughly lays you across his lap. You let out a small squeak at your body suddenly being thrown, but you have no complaints. He grabs your underwear and drags it down your legs before throwing into some corner of the room, quickly doing the same with your bra.
“Now, I’m going to spank you as many times as I want. And you’re not going to make a single sound. Got it?”
“Yes, sir,” you reply, hoping that using his favourite nickname it would lessen the number of spanks you would receive. Not to say that you didn’t love when he smacked your ass, you certainly did, but with how angry he was, you were sure it would hurt a lot more that usual. And your theory was proven correct when he delivered a surprisingly harsh slap to your behind.
“I told you not to make any noise, and what do you do? You speak before I even start.” His palm kneads the flesh that he just hit before delivering another strong spank in the same spot. “Have you forgotten how to do as you’re told?”
“Why should I listen?” you retort, waving your ass in the air in a small act of defiance.
“Because you don’t want to make your punishment any worse for yourself, trust me.”  You stop your movements and bite back another remark, somewhat worried about what he has in store for you. But beneath your fear, excitement runs through your veins.
Your body shakes as you wait for the first hit, and it feels like you’re waiting forever. You lay there across his lap, ass in the air, unable to see Changbin. He waits until he feels you relax slightly before striking.
You’d expected it, which is how you managed to not cry out at the sudden feeling. Your hand flew to your mouth and you were quiet, much to Changbin’s surprise. He was expecting you to make some sound, but he was delighted when you didn’t. It gave him some hope that he could eventually get you to obey him today.
You somehow continued to stay silent and Changbin continued to deliver smack after smack to your burning ass cheeks. You’d tried to keep track of how many there were in your head, but you’d lost count somewhere after 20. The pain he was subjecting you to hurt like hell, but it was oh so delicious.
He finally stops after he decides you’ve had enough, looking down and admiring the various dark red handprints marking the flesh. He slides one of his hands down your back until he reaches between your legs, running a lone finger through your slick folds. Your body jolts at the touch and he chuckles.
“God, you’re such a slut, y/n. You’re dripping.” He retracts his hand from your pussy and you almost whine at the loss, only just managing to stop yourself. “Get on your knees.”
You slowly get up from Changbin’s lap, your legs shaking violently. You manage to make it into a kneeling position on the floor between his legs, your sore ass resting against your calves. The flesh is painful, and you already know that there’ll be bruises all over your all tomorrow. You stay still in your spot, eyes focused on the ground, waiting to see what Changbin does next.
“Look at me.”
You refuse to do as instructed, continuing to act up, keeping your eyes trained on the ground.
“You’re being such a fucking brat today,” he grabs your hair and tugs with more strength than you thought he would, pulling your head backwards and forcing you to look at him. “Open your mouth.”
Against your better judgement, you once again don’t listen to him, opting instead to keep your mouth firmly closed. He sighs and brings his hand that’s not still in your hair up to hold your face by the chin. “I’ll say it one more time. Open your mouth.”
When you still keep your mouth closed you feel a sharp pain to the side of your face. The moment you realise that he slapped you, you feel yourself growing more aroused, clenching around nothing. You had both talked about introducing more impact play that just spanking but you hadn’t actually done it before. And you absolutely loved it.
He makes sure you’re looking him in the eye as he digs his fingertips into either side of your jaw through the flesh of your cheeks, effectively prying your mouth open. He holds his hand there, keeping your lips parted as he tilts your head backwards further. He leans over you and gathers his spit in his mouth before letting a glob of it trail from his mouth to yours. You moan at the sensation of his saliva hitting your tongue and mixing with your own spit.
“Swallow it.” Changbin orders, harshly closing your mouth.
You focus on the way his saliva slides down the back of your throat and you can feel your heat starting to drip onto the floor. You whine desperately, trying to rub your thighs together. Unfortunately for you, Changbin notices.
He stands up, moving to the side to remove his pants and underwear before standing in front of you. He holds his cock in his hand as he stands there just staring down at you. You want nothing more than to reach out and touch him, but you stop yourself.
“Open your mouth again.” He smiles when you finally so as your told, opening your mouth wide and sticking your tongue out. “And don’t move. If I catch you rubbing your thighs together again then you won’t be cumming for a month.”
You want to argue with him, you want to tell him that that’s too harsh of a punishment. But you don’t. You hold back all your comments at his threat, knowing that one step out of line from here on out will only result in him following through with his threat. You move your legs slightly further apart, barely holding back a whine from the loss of miniscule stimulation.
“See, you do know how to behave. You’re just being an absolute brat.” He rubs the tip of his cock along your bottom lip before slowly sliding all the way it. You can feel him deep in your throat once he bottoms out in your wet hole. He doesn’t even give you time to adjust before he begins thrusting, tangling both of his hands into your hair. He lets out a shaky groan at the stimulation you’re providing him, and this is the moment you can tell how much your punishment has been affecting him as well. He’d always been able to hide it well, managing to keep a straight face while you always became a whining mess.
You gag around his length when he thrusts particularly harshly, but he doesn’t even pause in his movements, continuing to chase his own pleasure. The aching between your legs is getting harder to ignore, causing you to whine desperately around his cock. The vibrations it makes causes Changbin to let out a particularly loud grunt and you can’t help but smile as much as you can with a dick in your mouth. He pulls your head off of him for a moment, allowing you mere seconds to catch your breath before he brings your mouth back down on him again.
His thrusts grow faster, and you can tell he’s getting close from the occasionally stutter of his hips. You moan around him, trying to help push him closer to his own orgasm. You were desperate to be touched, and you knew the only way that was going to happen would be after he cums first. His hips stutter again, and his thrusts grow sloppy before you can feel his thick cum release into the back of your throat. A deep growl escapes his lips, and you love the sound. You love it almost as much as you love the taste of him.
He pulls out of your mouth and he takes a moment to admire his cum sitting in a pool on your tongue. You also take the moment to admire him. The way his hair sticks to his forehead because of his sweat and the way his shirt tightly hugs his biceps. He brings one of his hand to cup your chin gently as you quickly understand what he’s telling you to do. You close your mouth and swallow, once again marvelling at the way a part of Changbin slides down your throat.
“Good girl,” he said, stroking your cheek with this thumb. Your heart fluttered at his words. As much as you absolutely loved it when he talked down to you, it was nice to get some praise every now and then. “Get on the bed.”
You scramble to your feet embarrassingly fast, and jump on the bed, quickly laying with your head against the pillows. He removes his shirt, climbing up after you and hovering over your body.
“Did I finally get through to that pathetic brain of yours? Did I finally make you realise that you’re nothing but my little cumslut? Did I finally make you behave?” His last words make you want to act up again, just to prove him wrong. But you don’t. The throbbing deep in your heat was beyond painful and you were wetter than you’ve ever been before. And Changbin has 100% noticed.
He’s quick to run a finger through your wetness, and he’s just as quick to slide two of his digits into your entrance, causing you to gasp. Your hips begin to squirm under him, and he has no hesitation in using his free hand to pin them down to the bed.
“I have a question for you, baby.” You lift your head up, looking Changbin in the eye as you wait for him to continue. “Would you rather be denied or overstimulated?”
The question makes you pause, unsure about what to say. You think about it for a moment before coming to an answer.
“Overstimulation.”
“Why’s that?”
“Because that was I at least get to cum,” you whine, his fingers still working in your core.
“I thought that would be the case. But, unfortunately for you, you don’t get to choose. Maybe if you’d been a good girl and not misbehaved all day then you’d get what you want.” He smirks, rubbing your clit with his thumb and using his other hand to play with your nipple. His actions draw a loud moan from you, and you can feel yourself growing closer to your impending orgasm. “Therefore, you’re not gonna get to cum for a while tonight.”
He pulls his hands away from you just before you get your release, and you let out the most pathetic whine as you feel your orgasm fading away. He only laughs at your reaction, loving how desperately you wanted to cum only to have it ripped away from you.
The night continues this way for a while, and you’ve long since lost count of how many times Changbin had denied you your orgasm. All you currently know is the tears that stream endlessly down your cheeks as he edges you once again.
“Please, sir. Please. I can’t take it anymore. I need to cum, please,” Changbin watches you as you babble nonsensically, smirking to himself about how he’s broken you down enough to beg for him. It wasn’t often that he managed to do that.
“Do you think you’ve earned it?”
You nod your head as vigorously as you could, hoping like hell that he would finally allow you your release.
“Hmm, well I suppose you have been taking the majority of your punishment like a good girl. In that case, how would you like to cum? On my fingers? Or on my tongue?”
“On your cock, please, sir,” you say, despite it not being one of the options that he mentioned.
“Is that so? Well, I don’t think that you deserve to be fucked by my cock today, baby. Not after your bold moves around the boys.” He smirks down at you and you start crying again.
“But sir. Please, I need it. I need your cock inside me, please. I’ll do anything-”
“Anything?”
You’d spoken without thinking, saying anything in order to get him to properly fuck you. But by this point, you’d most likely do just about anything Changbin asked of you. “Anything,” you whisper in confirmation.
“Then you’ll promise me that you won’t be a brat anymore. You’ll promise that you’ll always be my good girl who does as she’s told.”
You both know that it’s unlikely that you’ll never act up again, despite how rarely it actually occurred. But it was all part of the scene and you were all to happy to play along.
“I promise. I promise I’ll be your good girl. I promise, just please! I need it, I’ll be good. Please”
He shushes your pleads with a kiss, and there’s something so intimate about the moment. Maybe it’s the fact that it’s the first time he’s actually kissing you throughout the course of the night, but it’s just so soft of a moment that you can’t help but let out a happy little sigh. But it doesn’t last long before Changbin gets back to the task at hand: fucking you like his life depends on it.
“Considering you’ve made your promise and you’ve begged so nicely, I guess I can give you what you want.”
You let out the breath you were unknowingly holding while you waited for his answer, beyond relieved to know you’d finally be getting what you so desperately needed. He lined himself up with you aching core, rubbing his tip along your folds and he watched the way your pussy tried to already clench around him.
Without any warning, he suddenly pushes all the way into your core, and you’ve been so worked up and denied for so long that you can’t help but cum just from the feeling of him entering you. He looks down at you, watching the was your body trembles violently with the aftershocks of you orgasm, loud moans leaving your pretty mouth.
“Did you really cum just from me entering you?” Changbin teases, he was expecting you to cum quickly with how pent up you were but that had to be some sort of record. Your face burned with embarrassment, and you knew he was going to gloat about that for months.
You nod in answer and he begins to move slowly in and out of you. You unconsciously writhe underneath him, your body trying to get away from the overstimulation. But he only makes it worse when he brings one hand up to your throat and the other down to rub circles into your sensitive clit.
“If it’s gonna be that easy to make you cum right now, then I wanna see just how many times I can make it happen.”
It’s not too long before the pain of the overstimulation turns back into pleasure, and you can once again focus on the way Changbin’s cock drags along your sensitive walls. You let out a loud moan with every one of his harsh thrusts, unable to hold back any sounds. It’s not long before you’re cumming around Changbin’s length once again, more tears running down your face as he doesn’t ease up on his thrusts. His hand is heavy around your throat as you cry, and you want little more than to push his hand away from your clit.
“Fuck, you’re such a slut, y/n. Whose slut are you?” he asks, his own breathing heavy as you continuously clench around him like a vice.
“Yours, sir,” you manage to reply, your voice uneasy.
“Are you my slut?”
“Yes.”
“Tell me you’re my slut.”
“I’m your slut.”
“Say it again.”
“I’m your slut.”
You cum once again as he thrusts with a newfound strength, his grip tightening around your throat. Changbin can tell that everything is starting to borderline more on just painful for you than pleasurable, so he decides to chase his own high, aiming to cum quickly. He leans down, capturing your lips in a messy, needy kiss. When you clench around him tighter than ever before, he finally cums. He groans loudly against your lips, filling your sore cunt with his seed.
He continues to ride out his high before slowly pulling out of you, taking in the fucked-out state of your body. He observed the tear stained cheeks, and the way your whole body was flushed and still shaking aggressively.
“You okay, y/n?” he asks, placing a soothing kiss to your sweaty forehead. You nod nonchalantly, making a noncommittal noise of affirmation. “I’ll be right back, okay? I’m just gonna go run us a bath.”
You watch Changbin leave the room, heading towards the bathroom. While he’s gone, you realise just how much every part of you aches, from your head down to your toes. Thankfully, it’s not long before Changbin returns. He walks straight towards you and carefully picks you up. Not matter how gentle he moves you; you still groan at the discomfort.
He quietly carries you to the bathroom and you can immediately smell one of your favourite bath bombs fizzing away in the tub. You smile at his thoughtful gesture while he helps you get in the bath before he climbs in himself, seating himself behind you. He grabs a washcloth and begins to carefully help you get clean, rinsing the layer of sweat from your skin. As soon as he’s done cleaning your back, you lean against him, his chest pressed up against you.
“What had you acting up today, love? It’s so unlike you.” His voice is soothing in your ear and your hazy brain takes a moment to comprehend what he said as he wraps his muscular arms around you is a comforting hug.
“I don’t know. I guess I’ve just been missing you a lot lately.” You own voice is quiet, and to you it sounds as if you’re speaking from somewhere in the distance. You lean your head back against Changbin’s shoulder, tilting it so that you can look him in the eye. “You’ve been really busy at the studio and I suppose I just felt like I wasn’t getting enough attention. I’m sorry.”
“Hey, hey, don’t apologise. There’s nothing for you to be sorry for. If anyone should be sorry, it’s me. I guess I really got caught up in all the work that I wasn’t spending enough time with you. I promise to try and be better.” He smiles down at you, placing a quick peck to the end of your nose. “But hey, at least it ended in us having a lot of fun. Did you enjoy it?”
“Of course I did, Binnie. It was good.”
“Only good?” He’s teasing you again, and it causes you to let out a quiet giggle.
“It was perfect.”
You both sit in the bath together for a short while longer before Changbin notices you barely able to keep your eyes open.
“You look tired.”
“Mmm,” you hum in response, hardly able to muster up the energy to say any words in answer.
He climbs out of the bath before helping you up as well. He dries you both off then leads you back to the bedroom where he grabs you both a set of sleepwear. He dresses himself first before dressing you, helping you into bed soon after. He climbs into bed after you, curling himself around your body, not wanting to move you any further.
“Good night, y/n. I love you.” He can hear your soft snores and chuckles quietly, falling into his own comfortable sleep next to you.

So you know when you wanna write a funny situation but you realise that you have to come up with said funny situation? Yeah... I forgot that my sense of humor is atrocious, but at least I tried...? I couldn't focus on one long story so I decided to write several short ones instead! Hope you enjoy!
"I have the feeling you're not enjoying this sleepover very much."
Dream did not, in fact, enjoy this 'sleepover', because not only did it remind him that his only way out of this hell was stuck in here with him, but said way out had been nothing but insufferable since he got here.
"Is this about the bell-"
"You could have gotten us out of here."
Oh yeah, said way out also wasted their one chance at escaping on a fucking bell. Dream hadn't felt such anger in... he doesn't remember actually. He didn't get to feel angry often in here.
"Listen, it was a very important matter-"
He stopped listening at that point. It was the same tirade every time about clout and viewership and whatever that he honestly could care less about. Staring at and counting the cracks in the obsidian seems like a very interesting activity.
"Hey, are you listening?"
1... 2... 3...
"Dude."
4... 5... 6...
"How long are you gonna ignore me?"
7... 8- wait, didn't he count that one already?
"Look at me at least."
No, he doesn't think he will. Because then the bell will be within view, and Dream knows that if he wasn't so pathetically weak, either the bell or Techno would have been thrown into the lava by now. But he is, so he'll throw the next best thing: his body. And fuck whatever the pig might have to say about it.
"Dreeeeeam-"
"WHAT."
He whipped his head so fast his neck hurt a little. He was fully prepared to... well now he doesn't remember, because of all faces he expected Techno to make...
The fuckboy face wasn't one of them.
"Nooo don't be angry, you're so sexy haha."
Oh God, he just died and went to limbo didn't he?
He wasn't sure when exactly he collapsed on the floor, gasping for air in a mix of wheezes and coughing, but Techno was now hovering over him in panic.
"Dream please don't die, I don't want the last thing you ever saw to have been that face-"
Oh, if there was one thing he would make sure not to forget, it would have been that face.
~~~~~
"Man, I'm starving. When do we get food in here again?"
"Um, I don't know really. I guess whenever Sam is in the mood?"
"What."
"Yeah."
Sam hasn't dropped food a single time since he was locked in here. Well, add 'food' to the basic human rights Dream isn't getting. They're really treating this like a bucket list aren't they?
"It's... You'll get used to it."
Dream gives him some potatoes from his inventory, to Techno's absolute delight. At least Sam has great taste, he'll give him that. But...
"...They're raw."
"Well, obviously."
Listen. He loves potatoes. He'd say he loves them to death, if he could die. No matter how you cook them, they turn out delicious. But raw? He'd only eat them raw if it was a life-or-death situation AND he somehow had no source of heat at his disposal, and the likelihood of that situation happening is practically zero. So yeah, he doesn't like to eat them raw.
"And that's all you get?"
"If you can't eat it-"
Ah, those famous words. Now, he's fairly certain that Dream didn't mean it as a challenge, but at this point Techno is just too competitive to see it any other way. Look, you don't get to his level by being passive, okay? So it's perfectly reasonable.
What wasn't reasonable was the taste of this potato because what in the Blood God's name is this.
"What the hell is this."
"...A potato?"
"No, this is a fucking travesty."
And what a sight it was, the Technoblade swearing and ranting about potatoes, of all things. Dream could only last until "mossy cobblestone tastes better than this dry ass, stinky ass garbage" before he lost it. You gotta give him credit for lasting this long at least. Technoblade was too busy ranting to care either way.
~~~~~
This can't be happening.
"Dream."
"What."
He tries to sound neutral, but Techno can hear the snicker in his voice.
"You don't have to do this."
Surely he can reconsider-
"On the contrary, it has to be done."
Dream places a single card on the pile, which happens to be his last one. A Wild Draw 4, to rub salt into the wound. Techno decides that ending on that card should be illegal.
"Remember the deal. No bell for the rest of the day."
"NOOOOOOO!"
Unfortunately, that had been the condition he had to agree to in order to get Dream to play. Because apparently he was "ringing it all the fucking time and it was driving me crazy". There's that, and the threat that Dream would jump in the lava again if he refused. So clearly he had a choice in the matter.
He knew that there was a chance he could lose... but he had deemed it low enough to ignore it. How could he not expect the resident chessmaster of the SMP to utterly trounce him in UNO? He was a fool, and now he has to think about how to make up for the lost clout and money.
At least, judging from the quiet snickers, someone finds his misery funny. He finds consolation in knowing that he may have lost the battle but he won the war. In a way.
~~~~~
"So I almost got mauled to death but that was how I met Steve."
Dream stares at him the way Phil does when he does something particularly outlandish and he fails to see why.
"Can I ask a question."
"Sure."
"Why would the first thing you do upon running into a starving polar bear be hugging it?"
Of course he would question it, because obviously Techno's superior intellect is confusing to the common mind. He just really likes animals, okay? Steve's fur looked so soft and fluffy he just had to touch it, he almost got his face torn off and Phil never let him live that down. But he'll sooner accept governments than let Dream know that. He doesn't want to embarrass himself too much.
"See Dream, I live by a simple philosophy."
"Long live anarchy?"
"No. Well yes, but not just that."
Dramatic silence.
"Any animal is huggable if you aren't a coward."
Dream chokes on his potato, the only one he had eaten today, and Techno worries for a second before he realises that Dream is actually laughing.
"Tech- what-" His body is shaking. "-what is wrong with you??"
"It all started when I was born-"
~~~~~
And it's enough to send Dream rolling on the ground. It wasn't even that funny, but he supposes that prison does a number on you, and Dream's sense of humor was already terrible to begin with.
...Okay, now he had to make sure that the teletubby didn't laugh himself to death.
At the end of the day- at least Techno assumes it's the end of the day, he doesn't know how trustworthy his internal clock is anymore- the two inmates of Pandora's Vault are about ready to fall asleep, but Techno has one last thing to do before that.
"Dream, come here for a minute."
Said man gives him such a wary look that he almost feels insulted.
"...Why?"
"I won't bite, ya know."
"That's... debatable."
Bruh.
"Just get over here."
And Dream complies without any further complaints. Techno hopes he didn't sound too harsh, but his cellmate wasn't shivering uncontrollably, so he thinks he's in the clear.
"What?"
Techno lays his cape down on the very uncomfortable obsidian floor. Seriously, laying down for an hour is enough to make his joints ache. 0/10 would not recommend. How did Dream- right, he doesn't have a choice.
"What are you doing?"
"Making this prison less of a living hell. Come lay down."
"...I'm fine."
Why are you being so difficult, Techno wants to ask, even though he can guess the answer. When was the last time anyone did something remotely nice for him without any catch? Especially in here?
"Stop being difficult and sleep with me already."
Silence.
"...Pft."
"You know what I meant."
In his defense, everyone has their moments, and his usually don't happen that often.
"Stop being so difficult and-"
"Just... get over here. My cape is really soft."
"Is that why you wear it all the time?"
"...Among other things."
But mostly because it was really soft.
Dream still seemed apprehensive about the whole thing, and while usually Techno would have respected his wishes and left him be... the sight of his rival curling up in a corner of the cell, obviously trying to not aggravate his injuries as he did, was saddening even to him. Prime, he's really not good at this... but Dream probably definitely needs it.
So he pulls his roommate into a side hug, which is honestly the best he can manage without ruining his image. It's awkward, Dream is way too stiff, and maybe now would be the time to say something before embarrassment kills either or both of them. Something reassuring, comforting to help Dream relax in his presence for example.
"This is gonna be the best sleepover you've ever had."
...But the day he stops relying on humor for any kind of social interaction is the day it'll either stop working or get him killed.
"...This is so stupid."
And today was not that day.
Dream lets out a laugh, shaky but genuine, and relaxes. Techno sees that as a win. Since he's stuck here for a while, might as well make his favorite teletubby's life in here more bearable.
And it's finally over! It only took me... *looks at calendar* ...time is an illusion. Idk if I'm really happy with this, but on the bright side, it's... done? Now I really wanna continue that endersmile fanfic as I got some ideas, hopefully it won't take as long? God I am a writing disaster
Also if you saw any mistakes... no you didn't :)

~~~~~~~~~~~~
The air around them was thick as they finished the paperwork for their latest mission. You had been working with Dynamight for a couple of years now and had grown close to the explosive hero. So close that the two of you now live together, Bakugo grumbling about it being cheaper than the both of you living alone. So this evening routine was normal whenever the two of you were involved in an intense mission such as this.
However, things were slightly amiss.
He didn’t offhandedly congratulate you on not dying “you damn extra”.
Hell, he didn’t even yell at you for almost hitting him with your quirk, which has happened no one’s perfect.
But this time? Silence, pure and uncomfortable silence. So needless to say the ride back to your shared apartment was too quiet.
You didn’t say anything when you let yourselves into the building. He didn’t say anything when he unlocked the door and let the two of you in. It wasn’t until the door slammed shut behind him that he finally raised his voice.
“What the fuck was that?”
You had already walked into your room and began shedding your hero uniform. “I’m sorry?” You yell out from your room, halfway into your chill sweatpants and struggling to put on a comfy t-shirt. “What are you talking about Katsu?”
“Don’t play stupid with me dumbass, what the fuck was that?” He does his best to ignore the fact that you’re wearing one of his old t-shirts but he cant help the heat he feels seeing you like that. As if you didn’t do something utterly stupid an hour ago.
Your eyebrows furrow at his question, barely understanding what the blond is implying. “I have no idea what the hell you’re talking about! Please enlighten me, Bakugo.”
“Tch, don’t call me that.”
“I’ll call you whatever the hell I want if you’re gonna keep yelling at me for no damn reason!”
He pushes past you and enters your shared kitchen, already changed from being at the agency earlier and begins to prepare a meal. The anger hasn’t dissipated but he’s hoping to keep the conversation going by making one of your favorites. Bakugo is angry, yeah, but also incredibly attracted to his own roommate which makes him even angrier. He knows your eyes are on him, but he’s staying firm so then you can see how stupidly you were acting.
“Bakugo!”
“You could have died out there dumbass!” He roughly turns off the stove, his want to make you food ruined. Your jaw drops slightly as you think back to what happened. Your thoughts run wild in your brain as you’re trying to figure out what he’s talking about. You almost die every day and this is the one time he’s concerned about it. Suddenly a light bulb goes off in your head and everything clicks.
You softly murmur, “you mean when I saved you?”
“Yes, (Y/n)! That.”
You hadn’t heard him that angry, especially at you. You remember Mina telling you that you’re the only woman he lets close so he’s never really mad at you. Maybe all of that has changed. Did Bakugo catch on to your harbored feelings or...?
“You mean me saving you from the villain severely injuring you? God, Bakugo, we put our lives on the line everyday and this is what has you riled up? Me, saving and protecting the number 3 hero from imminent death at the hands of some low level villain? Who am I, some low ranked hero to the world as opposed to you? I weighed my options!” Your voice raised after each sentence and your breathing became shallower, causing your chest to rise and lower very pointedly.
This didn’t go unnoticed by Bakugo, but he’s currently too upset to act on it.
But he does match your energy. “I was perfectly fine handling that hit on my own and you know that.”
“Without my quirk you would’ve been in the hospital.”
“And you’d be dead! Did you ever think that there are others that need you alive? Fuck!”
Finally his thoughts and feelings had come to light. You were taken aback at his questions, still trying to figure out what this really means for you. You try to speak up, “the world needs Dynamight. Not me.”
“I need you.”
Your eyes widen at the words you’re not sure he said. But he did say what he said right?
You stutter over your words, “I, uh, what?”
Bakugo rakes a hand through his hair and huffs out, “Fuck it, c’mere.”
He pulls you in by the waist, his hands fitting there perfectly and softly kisses your lips. At first you’re shocked but give into your own feelings, kissing him back as your hands wrap around his neck. Bakugo takes that to kiss you deeper, his tongue licking at your bottom lip making you moan.
You two pull apart, a trail of saliva connecting your lips as your breathing is labored. Your lust filled eyes meet his which are also filled with lust and one other emotion you don’t want to believe is there, but secretly hope it is.
“This isn’t how I wanted to tell you.”
“That you love me, right Katsu?”
“Shut up, dumbass.”
He silences your giggles by kissing you again, this time more intense and lifts you onto the counter. His hands move from your waist to under your shirt. When his hands reach the soft skin of your breasts you let out a moan that went straight his nether regions. Fuck, he wants to hear those sounds from you all the time. He tests the waters further by pinching and playing with your pert right nipple and kneading your other mound.
Breathy moans escape as you break the kiss to hide your own sounds. Bakugo meets your lidded eyes,”sweetheart don’t hold back on me. I wanna hear it all,” he emphasizes the last word by pinching your nipples harder making you scrunch your eyes closed. A curse leaves your lips as his ministrations on your breasts don’t let up.
“Fuck baby, when was the last time your body was properly taken care of? You’re so sensitive,” he growls into your ear, nipping and sucking at it in a teasing way. He pulls away to face you as your eyes flutter open at the lack of touch. You give him a questioning look to which he responds. “Stop me now if you don’t want this.”
Your breathing is ragged as Bakugo patiently and impatiently waits for your answer. You push him lightly away from your body in order to give you space to take off your shirt and toss it to the ground, your chest on full display to the blond.
“I want this more than you know,” your words low and dripping, motioning him to come closer.
Without hesitation Bakugo sweeps in and wraps his arms around your body. Naturally your legs find purchase around his waist and he lifts you off of the counter. You feel his hard on right up against your stomach, riling you up further. Was this all it took to make this man want you?
His lips find haven on your neck, biting and sucking like he’s tasting you for the first time. “As much as I want to take you right here, let’s move it to my room, yeah?”
That knowing smirk he gives you goes straight to your core, making your panties wetter. That didn’t go unnoticed as he whispers out a fuck and rushes to his room.
The feel of a lush duvet on your back alerts you that you’re now in his room and on his bed. His warm hands continue to trail and rake up your torso and over your breasts as you two make out. Bakugo backs up and off you only to trail kisses down the center of your body. He kisses in the valley of your breasts, leaving the area cool as his lips leave it for your belly. You try to cover up, a sense of insecurity overcoming you. The blond swiftly moves your arms away and kisses every dip and roll your tummy has to offer, sinking lower to where skin meets the fabric of your sweatpants. You feel his fingers on the hem as he eyes you for approval. You nod and in seconds your sweatpants are thrown across the room.
A clear wet stain at your core can be seen on your underwear, which isn’t cute but can’t change that now. Bakugo can already smell the arousal on you, “you this wet for me already? I haven’t even touched your pussy yet.” You moan at his words and try to rub your thighs together for friction. He smirks at what you’re trying to do and firmly places his hands on your thighs, almost threatening to leave imprints.
“Tell me what you want princess.” You can feel his breath against the growing wetness of your cunt.
“Katsu, fuck. It’s embarrassing.”
He inches his hands closer to your clenching hole but never gets close enough. “It wasn’t embarrassing when you stripped for me in the kitchen yeah? You being a brat, slut.” He slaps your inner thigh making you gasp out. A sinister smile comes to his face at your reaction. “You’re such a slut, making such lewd noises so easily for me and I haven’t even done anything.” His fingers then glaze over your clothed pussy making you whimper. “Tell me.” he slaps your thigh again, “what you want.”
Your breathing is shallow with want as a wanton moan escapes your lips. “Fuck Katsu, I want- hah- I want your mouth.”
“Where?”
“Don’t make me say it - ah shit!”
The blond playfully bit right outside the lining of your underwear, knowing damn well where you actually want it. “Tell me.”
“Fuck! I want your mouth on my pussy, please!” You all but scream out the sexual statement.
You hear him chuckle and feel him shrug your underwear off, your hips rising to make the action go by faster. “That’s all I wanted, brat.”
You had always dreamt and played with yourself to the thought of Bakugo eating you out but it never amounted to the real thing. His lips wrapped around yours as he sucked and pushed his tongue inside your walls. For sure, the two of you are going to get a noise complaint but you’re too in the throws of ecstasy to care. His lips and tongue work in tandem to bring about the utmost pleasure to you. When his tongue and lips find your clit, he has to put pressure on your hips to keep them steady.
Your out of control breathing and whining turn him on more than would be possible. He growls and grunts into your heat, enjoying your taste and smell too much. He can feel his dick getting hard and leaking onto the mattress beneath him. He starts grinding into it to alleviate some of the building pressure. But it’s not as much pressure that’s building in your core; he can feel it.
“Oh fuck, Katsu I’m gonna cum. Fuck, fuck, fuck!”
Katsuki continues to thrust his tongue in and out of you and suck on your clitoris as your ride out your first orgasm. Once your heartbeat slows to a normal pace, hair sticking out in all directions and sweaty you look down at him. He’s wiping away at his chin and sucking whatever was left off his fingers.
Did you...?
“Damn, sweetcheeks. You must’ve been holding back. That was fucking hot.”
“Shut up, it’s, hah, it’s not my fault my other partners couldn’t satisfy me.”
He crawls up to you and kisses you, making you taste your saltiness on his lips. “Well then we gotta make up for lost time, yeah?”
You scoff at him and notice his walls are low. Taking the initiative, you overpower him and place him on his back, straddling him.
“Heh, just what the hell do you think you’re doing, brat?”
You peck his lips and remove his shirt, “Returning the favor, what’s it look like?” Your hands deftly move down his toned torso, leaving fleeting kisses until you meet the line of his boxers, seeing his dick straining against the material. You do your best to keep in the drool leaking out of your mouth when you remove his boxers.
Bakugo gets a, rightfully earned, ego boost seeing your reaction to his penis. “Heh, take a picture it’ll last longer.”
You honestly debate it but just bite your lip at his sarcasm. His tip is already leaking pre-cum and you lick your lips at the sight. You bend down on your knees to get comfortable and then surprise him with a long slow lick from the base to tip. His hand immediately takes purchase in your hair, admiring the texture as he hisses out curses. You swirl your tongue all around the tip, making sure to dip into the little slit at the top.
That got a growl out of him.
“You fucking brat, you think you’re in control huh?”
You nod by sinking your mouth lower on his dick and quickly coming up with a pop, an evil grin on your face. Taking the challenge, Bakugo places not supporting hand on the back of your head, forcing you closer to his aching member.
“Suck.”
You comply, with a little help, and begin to suck him hard and deep. Your cheeks hollow out the more ragged his breathing gets and add in more tongue. Curses fly free from his mouth as his eyes roll back in pleasure. He tries his best to keep his hips on the bed but the way you’re blowing him, he may just have to face fuck you. What turns him on more is the obvious bulge of his dick in your throat that almost makes him cum on the spot.
You’re more than willing to drink up his cum but he stops you before he gets too lost in the feeling. “Baby, I wanna cum in you so bad but not like this.” He lets you remove yourself from his throbbing dick as he pulls you in for a sloppy kiss. For some reason, tasting himself on your lips is something he can get used to. He flips you over to your back, eyes meeting in a mixture of love and lust. You truly see what he’s been feeling all this time and vice versa. His words from earlier ring in your ears and you calmly place a hand on his cheek.
“Katsu, I’m sorry for scaring you.”
Ruby eyes roll as he leans down to kiss you. “Dumbass, I know you’ll be sorry by letting me fill you up with my seed. You’re on the pill right?”
“Strange how you remember that and my favorite food.”
“Don’t ruin the moment.” He pauses as he sees the lazy grin on your face. He could get used to this. He’s still hovering over you, dick ready and throbbing as he teases your entrance. “Fuck, I love how wet you are for me. You get this wet for every other guy?” He continues to toy with your opening, making you whimper and squirm underneath him. “Answer me, slut.”
“N-no. Only you, Katsu- Ah!”
Happy with your answer, he thrusts into your awaiting pussy, breathing shallow at how warm and soft you feel around his penis. “Fuck, so wet and so tight. This pussy is for me right? Yeah it is, brat. Tell me.”
With each word he pumps in and out of you at a speed you never thought would be possible. Your senses are overwhelmed by him. The sight of him fucking you and losing control over you, the sound of skin meeting skin and the squelches from your cunt. The smell of sex in the air, the feel of his dick hitting you in all the right places, and the taste of each of your essences on your lips and tongue. This was paradise. “Yes, hah, it’s all for you!”
Bakugo slows his pace to pull you up for a messy kiss. He then flips you over onto your knees. A wanton moan leaves your throat as his member reaches deeper into you. Seeing you from this angle, he wants to engrave this view in his memory. The way your ass looks up against his skin, he can’t help but harshly smack a cheek. You yell out in pleasure, clamping down more onto him.
“Fuck baby girl, you like when I spank you huh?” He spanks your other cheek and got the same result of pussy clenching on him.
“Yes,” you pant out, “fuck daddy I love it! Spank me more!”
You’re not even sure what you’re saying anymore, pleasure and ecstasy flowing through you. He spanks you more, making the both of you closer to release. His hands leave your ass, one onto your waist and the other reaching for your clit rubbing it vigorously.
“You gonna cum you slutty brat, huh? Gonna cum all over daddy’s cock yeah?”
He pumps into you harder, rubs you harder. “Yes, fuck Katsu I’m gonna cum.”
Bakugo abruptly stops, pulling out slightly to change positions. He sees the confusion on your face as you see you’re about to ride him. But there’s something else in his gaze.
“That’s not,” he humps into suddenly and you cry out, “my fucking name is it?”
His movements almost feel faster this time that you’re on top. Your breasts bounce and jiggle in his face and he wants to fondle them earnestly. His hips gyrate faster and faster, chasing the sweet sense of relief he knows he’ll find. Bakugo wanted to keep fucking you from behind, but he wanted to see your fucked out face as you came again. His hand again begins to rub at your clit, bringing you closer and also clenching on his dick harder.
“Fuck baby girl. Are you ready to cum with me, huh? Tell me you’re ready.”
You keep bouncing up and down, feeling the largest orgasm of your life coming to fall over you. Your tongue lolls out and tears edge at your eyes. “Yes! Daddy fuck I wanna cum.”
“Then cum baby. Cum for me.”
“Ah, hah, Katsu, Katsuki! Hah, fuck fuck fuck, oh my god.”
Underneath you, Bakugo continues to fuck you through his own orgasm, muttering and growling under his breath; volume increasing the more of his seed that spurts out into you. You fall on top of him, sweat and other bodily fluids mix together as he limply holds you in his arms. Once your breath has calmed down, you slowly remove yourself from on top of him and fall again into the mattress.
“Fuck, princess. How was that?”
You turn to meet him and want to hide yourself, but what’s the point? He saw a side of you and brought out something in you you thought he would never see. “That was, goddamn, worth waiting for?”
He chuckles and kisses your forehead. “Stay here.” He commands you as he heads to the bathroom. He comes back with a warm towel and two glasses of water. He kindly helps you clean up and gives you a glass to drink. You didn’t realize how dehydrated you were until you had downed the whole glass. Bakugo laughs at you as he drinks his water and wipes himself as well.
“You know I love you, right?”
All you could do was nod as sleep was the only thing on your mind currently. However your stomach had other ideas.
“We never ate dinner did we,” you ask and chuckle at the realization.
Bakugo, still as naked as you are, brings you into his body and cuddles you close. “I was gonna make you your favorite dish but we can order takeout if you like.
“And besides, I already got a full meal.”
“Katsu!”
The diner is open
Gold Rush (optional bias)
A/N: I honestly don’t know a lot about the middle ages, so if anyone is a history genius, pls bare with me if I write something that doesn’t make sense asfghjk PS: feedback is greatly appreciated!!
genre: optional bias (male), thief!au, strangers to enemies to lovers, medieval!au, suggestive content, reader is always ready to fight lmao, a tiny bit of angst
summary: As thieves, you both try to steal from the same royal carriage. Only it doesn’t go as planned for either of you. Will you get away before the king sentences you both to death?
words: 8.9 k
You had been tailing the royal carriages for an entire day now. You were sure your horse was getting exhausted, but the sun was setting and you knew what that meant. Soon, the transport would come to a halt. They would find a clearing somewhere, with trees as shelter from all sides. Then, they would set up their camp for the night, only to pack up everything in the morning and travel another two or three days, until they reached their destination: the castle. Only instead of delivering the full carriages, with gold, silver, pearls and gems, a few handfuls would be missing. It would be almost nothing to them, you suspected. They might not even notice it disappeared.
To you, however, it meant existing. You had to admit, being a thief hadn’t been your first choice when it came to choosing an occupation for the rest of your life. You had tried to integrate into different businesses. You were going to learn to be a baker, a glover and even tried to keep a job helping out on a farm. But none of these professions were for you. You were tired of being commanded around by men who tried to make you their little maid or worse – ask you for your hand in marriage. The judgement was tedious. “Aren’t you too old to be unwed?” “Where is your husband?” “How many children do you have?”
You wished you could talk back. “No, I’m just fine, he doesn’t exist and none – is it any of your business, by the way?” But you had learned that arguing with elders would only get you in trouble, and perhaps your decision to refrain from living the typical life was exactly what made it impossible for you to keep a job. That was, until you discovered your talent – a sleight of hand that was invincible. Some would call it avaricious; you would prefer to describe it as a passion. It wasn’t evil, just a thrill you enjoyed chasing. The beginnings had been humble. A few coins out of someone’s pocket here and there, some food from an unsuspecting marketer; you had to keep yourself afloat somehow, right?
But the seasons went by, and you became more audacious and greedier for your beloved adrenaline. Plus, you realized that stealing from the rich had something weirdly rewarding. Maybe it was the anger you felt at the king for hoarding the wealth of the land whilst letting his people starve in the streets. Either way, stealing from those who had power made you feel a sense of benevolence. You gave away some of your stolen goods to those who actually needed them, instead of letting all the money and jewelry rot away in someone’s bag and around someone’s neck. Sometimes you hid in the shadows after your theft had been settled, only to see the reactions of your victims. It might have sounded obsessive, but it gave you assurance, when they moved on after only minutes of complaint, because you knew those few coins were miniscule to all of them.
And currently, you were on to one of your most reckless thefts. You were well aware this could get you killed. Yet you couldn’t help it, the glimmer of the jewels and the gold was hypnotizing. Finally, the carriages had come to a halt. From a safe distance, you observed how they unloaded their tents and checked especially carefully where they kept the most desired goods. The wares would stay in the carriages, probably guarded all night long. You would need to wait for the right moment.
“Good job today, my dearest Dorato,” you whispered to your horse as you tied the reins to a tree. Gently, you pat his nose. He pushed his head closer to you, demanding more affection, but your eyes were already on your objective. For at least an hour you stood, hidden in the thicket, waiting for the sun to set completely and some of the men to lay to sleep. With a hawk’s gaze you counted the men and made sure you knew each of their whereabouts. One of the wagons stood with its back opening facing you – which was perfect. It was like they were presenting the goods to you on a silver plate. To the left of the wagon, some of the men had lit a bonfire and were seated around it. Judging by their laughter and lively conversations, you doubted they would go to sleep soon. One of them was sitting on the edge of the carriage, meant to guard the inside. He, who should have been paying the most attention, however, was fast asleep. And that was your chance.
“Wish me luck, Dorato,” you whispered to your horse, running your hand over his warm neck. Then, you slowly moved towards the carriage. Outside the shielding cover of the trees, you felt you needed to act quickly. The gales of laughter were helping against your vulnerability in reminding you that the men around the fire were trusting their sleeping guard to have everything under his control. Sly as a fox, you kept your distance and approached the opening of the wagon only when the bonfire was out of sight. You pulled the fabric to the side and with a swift jump, you landed on the edge of the carriage right next to the dozed off man. It only took one maneuver and you had opened the wooden chest nearest to you.
You grinned in triumph at the jackpot in front of you. With eyes sparkling just as much as the diamonds and gems, you grabbed handfuls and transported them into your bag.
“Henry, change of shift!” someone suddenly shouted. Their voice sounded scarily close to you, and then you heard footsteps approaching. Even though you had wanted to be greedier and steal some more, this was definitely your cue to get out of there. If they saw you inside the wagon, you’d be done for. So, without second thought, you yanked the cover away and leaped off the edge.
“Thief!” the surprised man howled as you passed him. Luckily, this wasn’t the first quick escape you had ever had to make. Your feet carried you rapidly, over the grass and into the trees where your horse stood. One quick pull and the reins had come off the tree trunk.
“Over there!” a hoarse man growled. Now more voices were heard, curses and angry shouts directed your way.
“Let’s go, boy,” you said and hauled yourself into the saddle. You pushed your legs against his belly, quickly signaled your horse the way and he knew the drill already. He took off sprinting, out of the forest cover. The wind in your face momentarily forced your eyes to tear up a little and you squinted against the cool night air. But just as you thought you were getting onto the gravel road, one of the guards jumped out in front of you. The fire from the torch he was holding danced aggressively in the wind. As he pointed it high, it was a blaze against the darkness of the night sky, and Dorato whinnied in terror. He jumped and reared up, and you lost balance.
“Seize her!” a man shouted at your disoriented figure on the ground. You wanted nothing more than to get back on your feet and flee. But it was no use. You were surrounded by a number of gravely livid men, and should you try anything stupid now, it would cost you your life, probably. Somebody grabbed your shoulders and pulled you up.
“Take the horse,” one of them ordered and your eyes widened. If they hurt your best friend it was the last thing they would do, you swore in silence. But to your dismay, as the men dragged you over to the wagon, they ripped your quiver and your bow from your back. You sat still as they tied your hands and feet and hurled you into the very wagon you had just stolen from.
“There you have your gemstones,” a guard spoke. “Look at them as much as you want, because soon you won’t be looking at anything anymore.”
Giving him a gaze so spiteful it should have hurt him physically, you spit right into his face. Lucky for you, he wasn’t up for a fight. It wasn’t on him to convict you for anything just yet. A complacent smile spread on your face as he walked away, wiping your saliva out of his eyes. At least now you had a guaranteed roof over your head for the night.
You were in slight trouble, you had to admit that. In two days, you would arrive at the castle. Depending on what the king decided, your punishment could be as severe as death. But until then, it would be a while. There was still plenty of time to escape, you assured yourself.
All night long, no matter how much you forced your eyes shut, you didn’t catch a minute of sleep. The men’s chatter was simply too loud and maybe you were concerned for your safety, after all – even if you would have never confessed it to someone other than yourself. The heavy chests of luxurious items sat across and next to you, as if they were mocking you for your foolish actions. For hours you sat staring at them, cursing your greed. Only in the morning, when the carriages continued their journey, the rocking of the wagon lulled you into a slumber.
~
You awoke later that day. Judging by the dim light falling into the carriage, it must have been the early evening. Curious, you scooted to the edge, lifted the fabric that was covering your sight and checked. Your assumptions had been right. The golden sunlight of the last hour of daytime shone into your face. The wagon you were in was the last of them, behind you only the bright gravel and trees left and right. For a while you daydreamed the boredom away. You went into another world, in which you didn’t have to steal to survive. In your real life, you were either born into luxury or you had to toil each day for the rest of your existence. There was no hard work that could have transported you out of your peasant-state and into something more carefree.
Suddenly, shouts ripped you right out of your dreamworld. The wagon had halted, but when you looked out the back, nothing was there. Trying to learn what the commotion was all about, you concentrated on the chaos of voices. Had they all gotten into an argument? The men were all talking at the same time, so there was really no use but to wait and see.
“You will be delighted to have some company until you receive your sentence from the king,” a man said. Footsteps drew nearer. Someone pulled away the fabric at the end of the wagon. Before you knew it, a figure was pushed inside. It was a young man but clearly not one of the guards, as he was dressed like a peasant. With a groan, he was bracing himself up across from you.
“Enjoying the ride?” the guard outside the wagon taunted you with a sneering grin. You spat in his face. Again.
“You little-“ he snarled.
“Let’s go! We can’t lose any more time!” someone yelled and unknowingly saved you from more trouble. The man disappeared and the carriages began to move again.
You welcomed the newest addition to your wagon by staring him down like he was about to take all the gold and diamonds clearly reserved for you. When he had sat up and checked his surroundings, he noticed your look.
“Is there a problem or something on my face?” he asked.
“Were you trying to steal from them?” you asked back. “Didn’t go as planned, did it?”
“Were you not?” he replied. “My highness, we’re in the same situation, so don’t you try to aggravate me out of tediousness.”
“Don’t you mock me, or you’ll receive the same response as the guard did,” you threatened. “And you are very wrong. You are going to be brought to the castle and thrown into a prison. I will escape.”
“Is that so?” he asked. “I see you’re making great progress with getting out of these ropes. You better hurry, or I’ll get away before you do. I can carry a lot in my pockets.”
You huffed.
“The diamonds are mine,” you stated, matter-of-fact.
“Whoever gets out first will have them,” he replied. “I’m betting on myself.”
“God…could you not have chosen a different day to steal from the royals?” you asked, making it sound more like a statement than a question.
“Oh, I’m sorry, I didn’t realize it was your highness’ turn today,” he said, and his smile was taunting and cocky at the same time.
“I told you to stop calling me that!” you hissed, one second from collecting your saliva in your mouth.
“What do you prefer then?” he asked. His smirk made you wonder whether he was contemplating to suggest some more stupid pet names for you. He better not, you thought.
“I don’t know…what about my name?” you said. “It’s Y/N.”
“All right, Y/N,” he said. “And would you consider sitting on death row one of the more entertaining parts of your job? Are you used to it?”
If only looks could kill, he’d be torn to shreds.
“This is the first time I’ve ever been caught,” you said. “But judging by how lightly you’re taking this, you must spend more time in jail than outside of it.”
“What can I say? The guards love me,” he said. “But didn’t they teach you to be honest? I don’t believe you. Or maybe you were a coward for so long and this is your first time actually trying to steal. What’s the truth, sweetheart?”
There was nothing you despised like people who underestimated you. And with that, you spat in his face and turned away from him. Know-it-alls weren’t going to be granted a second of your attention.
“Hey, talk to me,” he said. “We’ll be here for another while, so we might as well become friends.”
“Missed your chance,” you said. And it was the last thing you said to him for a long time. Even when he tried so hard to lure you back into a conversation. You knew if you gave in, he’d never learn.
“My name is H/N, by the way. Oh, that’s right. You don’t care. I forgot,” he said. And he was right.
~
Having to rot away by yourself in the back of a carriage was already exhilarating enough. But rotting away in the back of a carriage while an irritating young man filled your head with stupid stories you could care less about? It made hell sound inviting. Even when the guards had set up their camp for the night, he occasionally tried to get you back into conversation. Because you had slept throughout the day, you knew you’d be awake until the early morning hours, a fact that only made your situation more unbearable.
Your ears picked up the crackling of the wood as the bonfire fed on it next to the wagon. Suddenly, a guard pulled aside the curtain. Without a word, he slid a plate with a piece of bread and a bowl with some water inside and left.
“This is going to be hard to eat with my hands on my back!” the young thief in front of you shouted, but the guard only laughed.
“Nice try,” you said, eyeing the food.
“Oh, she speaks after all,” he said. “And at least one of us is trying.”
“If I had one coin for every time you’ve provoked me since we met, I could buy my freedom,” you said. And again, he was in the wrong. Obviously, you had tried hard to figure out a way to get out of the restraints digging into your skin. If only you had a sharp object or –
“Are you gonna eat that?” he asked, pointing his head at the bread. He was willing to share, at least.
“I’ll bite off half and you get the other side,” you announced and bent your head down to the plate.
“Hey!” he exclaimed, shoving you out of the way so you tumbled onto your side with a huff of surprise.
“What the fuck is your issue?” you asked, regaining you posture.
“I’m taking the first bite,” he said. “I don’t know where your mouth has been.”
“I’ll show you where my mouth is,” you snapped. The next moment you tackled him, teeth digging into his shoulder. He groaned in pain, ferociously pushing you off him. His foot hit your thigh and you realized if you had any chance of getting away, an injured leg wouldn’t make it easier. So, you trudged away slightly.
“Are you out of your mind? Did you just really fucking bite me?” he growled.
“Go ahead, eat your damned bread,” you snarled. With a sulky sigh, you leaned back against the chest behind you, shut your eyes and tried to keep your fury in check.
You sat that way for an hour, maybe a few. With time, the roaring laughter from outside had died down. It must have been the middle of the night when you opened your eyes again. The silence let you conclude that your fellow captive had fallen asleep. Finally, you bent down to where you suspected the water bowl to be and took a few gulps. Only now you realized just how empty your stomach was. But your nose picked up something. Bread. In the darkness, you could hardly make out the half of the piece he had left for you. His humble act redacted your opinion of him from 100 to 98% dickhead. Like a starved animal, you gobbled the food. When you took your place against the chest once more, even you managed to snooze off into a much needed rest.
~
When the carriage steered through a pothole it shook you out of your slumber. Surprisingly, it was completely bright outside.
“You’re just on time,” the young thief across from you announced. “We’re about to arrive at the castle.”
He hadn’t woken you up. Maybe he had earned a few more sympathy points – with emphasis on a few. Only twenty minutes later, you were lead trough the cold halls of some dark part of the castle, down into the dungeon. While the guards dragged you around, even your loudmouth shut. This was new territory and made you slightly nervous. Were you going to make it out of here? So far, nothing was decided. You dearly prayed the king would be in a fantastic mood when he convicted you.
Your whole body was sore from the hours of sitting in the same position on the hard wood of the wagon, so you almost welcomed being shoved through the uninviting halls. One of the guards cut the remaining ropes from your hands, before pushing you into a cell. Much to your dismay, your fellow wagon inmate would also join you in this prison.
“The king will tend to you lowlives when he has time,” the guard said. The loud metallic clash of the prison bars closing and the lock sliding in place sounded like your demise. Your eyes followed the guard’s figure helplessly, until he had disappeared down the dark hallway. A slam of a door indicated that he was gone. Like a nervous animal, you paced from one wall to the other over and over. Your arms were crossed in front of your body and you were trying hard not to have a nervous breakdown. You needed your brain for more vital things right now – like contriving a plan to escape this hellhole before you could be sentenced to death.
“Would you sit down, goddammit!” the young man remarked. He was leaning against the back wall of the cell, eyeing you closely. “I need to think!”
“Do you think I don’t?” you replied. The moment of panic in your voice was short-lived, but he probably noticed it either way.
“I can’t focus if you’re losing it in front of me,” he said. “If you’re already processing your inevitable death, that’s cool with me. But I’m still planning on getting out of here, so please try to process in silence.”
Your nostrils flared in anger and you clenched your hands to fists by your sides.
“You idiot!” you said. “If you hadn’t done everything in your power to make me despise you right when we met, we could have tried to flee together.”
“Last time I checked, you were the one biting me for having a sense of personal hygiene,” he fired back. “We’re stuck in here. But get it together, we’re not on death row yet.”
In disbelief you stared at him, your irritation almost drowning out the restless pounding inside your head. He held his chin high as if to challenge you. And you could have gone for it. Down here in this cold, forlorn dungeon no one would hinder you from fighting each other. No, you knew for a fact that not a single soul in this castle gave one last damn about whether you lived or died. But you were completely drained. After all the sleep you had gotten, you should have been wide awake, and maybe your body was – but your mind was in the middle of shutting down. So, even though it hurt your pride, you stopped your uneasy walking and mirrored his behavior on another wall. Arms crossed and eyebrows furrowing, you kept your eyes on the ground. Maybe he was right. Giving up wasn’t characteristic for you, so why was your head spinning from dread?
In desperate search of some sort of hope, you caught glimpse of his rather relaxed stance. If he could keep up a calm front, maybe you could too. Luckily, he wasn’t looking at you, and not noticing how you drew strength from his so simple but enheartening behavior.
~
Three days into your stay in the dungeon, you had found a daily rhythm. Your mornings consisted of pretending to be asleep for as long as you possibly could, then holding yourself back from attacking your beloved cellmate because he couldn’t keep his mouth shut for more than five minutes. By midday your arguments had usually turned into playful bickering, because you couldn’t cope with being angry all the time. And frankly, you were bored. Even though standing his endless interrogations about your life was exhilarating, it was still better than losing sense of time and in the process also losing your sanity. Late, when darkness had fallen upon the land, a guard delivered a small ration of food for both of you. This was the part where your bickering morphed back into serious conflicts. If you were going to live on tiny amounts of food, you wouldn’t settle for the smaller ration of the two.
The fourth day was different. When you first reached consciousness, you heard nothing. Usually, he was already awake, noticing like a stalker when you awoke, only to tease you from the moment you woke up. But that day, you opened your eyes to a seemingly empty cell. Until you spotted him in the corner. His body was shaking, and his tiny, husky cough concerned you further.
“H/N?” you asked quietly. Considering the amount of loathing you’d thought you held for him, you sure worried an unnormal amount. But it wasn’t the mere thought of him being ill that concerned you most. It was the idea of having to suffer in the dark, murky dungeon all alone, day to day, until you’d have to face the king, who likely wanted you dead for your crimes. An ice-cold fear crept over you. You didn’t want to – no, you couldn’t – die lonely. Even if he was the last person you could have wished to be thrown into prison with, he was still company. This loathsome cell, the horrors of the near future, the neverending progression of time and the uncertainty that came with it – it all terrified you to the bone. Only now you realized just how much comfort he gave you, all by existing in the same space as you.
Carefully, you approached him. He wasn’t answering you, and he never not answered you. It was a heartbreaking sight. He was curled up in a fetal position, hands clenched to fists on his chest. A thin layer of sweat glistened on his forehead. Whether he liked it or not, you sat down with him. Gently, you reached for his forehead. A second was enough to determine he was burning up.
“Get off me,” he said, slapping your hand away. His voice was so frail.
“Hush. Let me help you,” you insisted. He huffed in annoyance.
“Are you a doctor when you’re not a thief?” he asked.
“No. But improving your mentality will help your body recover faster,” you said. “And you seem to be in a very negative headspace right now.”
His mouth opened to speak, but then a shiver rippled through his body and he wrapped his arms around his knees tightly. All this time, he hadn’t even opened his eyes.
“We need to keep you cool,” you said. “Take off your jacket.”
“This isn’t the time to ask me to take off my clothes,” he said, almost whispered.
“Will you just do as I say so you can get better? Do you want to die in here?” you said, brushing off his words. Something flashed across his face. Fear? Disappointment? Aware that it could invade his comfort zone, you very carefully took his hands. Lucky for you, he let you. When his jacket came off, you noticed the sweat stains that had formed on his thin shirt.
“You can lie down on this, it’ll be more comfortable,” you advised. Without arguing, he followed your instructions and allowed you to spread out the jacket underneath him. This behavior was new, you thought. But you could surely get used it. You knew it must have been serious, if he didn’t give you a silly remark for everything you said.
“I’ll get you more water,” you said, as you retrieved the almost empty water bowl from the center of the stone floor. Set on not spilling a drop, you lifted it to his lips and watched as he swallowed the last few sips. You used the sleeve of your shirt to wipe his wet hair out of his face, as he sunk back down onto the hard ground.
“Sleep now,” you said. You didn’t need to tell him twice. He had been almost unable to keep his eyelids open, so without hesitation, he drifted off into dreamland. For hours, you sat, hugging your knees to your chest, eyes on his anguished figure. Just as you had thought you could deal with the scary ordeal of being held captive in a castle dungeon, this had to happen. Stricken with sorrow, you waited for time to pass. If only you could have slept too, it would have made all the anxious thoughts go away. But someone had to look after him, and you weren’t tired.
His slumber must had been a hag-ridden one. Sometimes, he made small sounds, like whimpers, other times his brows furrowed, and his muscles flexed from whichever terror it was that haunted him in his head.
“Shh, you’re going to be okay,” you assured him, and maybe also yourself. But his tireless stirring only became worse, his body twisting and turning on the uneven ground. He groaned in agony, and your heart clenched like a million little daggers had slashed it.
“I’m here to keep you safe,” you whispered, bending down to his level. With utmost care, you lifted his head and let him rest in your lap. You weren’t really planning what was happening, but your hands found his hands. Softly, you stroked them, waiting for him to calm down and relax his tight fists. His mumbles and quiet moans of distress continued, until you realized. He was trying to tell you something.
“I can’t go like this,” he said.
“You’re not go-“ you started.
“No! My- parents need- me,” he stuttered. By now he was grasping your hands desperately. You sighed and his eyes opened ever so slightly. The anger he had held for you was vanished. You almost teared up at the delicateness of his gaze.
“I need to help them... they’re old and sick and can’t be alone,” he added in a small voice.
“We will get out of here,” you said. You had no idea when there had first been a ‘we’, but now there apparently was. “You have to be strong now, do you hear? Then you can meet your parents again.”
He was looking almost through you. His eyes were so dark, it was like staring right into the deepest part of the ocean. You stroked the back of his hand with your thumb, whilst trying hard to keep a hopeful gaze. For him, you had to appear strong. Or else, how else was he supposed to be?
“I’m sorry- I was such an asshole to you,” he suddenly confessed. “I thought you would steal away the gold before I could. And now look where that brought us.”
“This isn’t your fault. We were both being reckless,” you said. “I’m sorry I bit you. And threatened to spit on your face. And then spat on your face.”
The tiniest smile spread on his face. Success. Any sort of positive emotion could help him now.
“That wasn’t very nice,” he whispered. “I’ll think about whether I can forgive you. You must know, I’m very vindictive.”
His grin was playful, and his eyes were closed, as if he was on the brink of falling back to sleep.
“Forgiveness hurts less than holding a grudge for the rest of your life,” you said. Who knew? Maybe even the king could show remission. All you knew was that you would crumble, would you have to encounter the king alone. Your brain had set on the need for H/N. For years, you hadn’t formed any meaningful relationships – not counting your bond with your ardently loved horse. Now, with his head on your lap and your fingers intertwined with his, you ached for more. Was it really him you wanted? Or had you denied yourself of any affection for such a long time, the smallest contact with anyone appeased your yearning? Would you have felt the same, if it had been somebody else in his place?
~
At night, the metal noise of the door at the far end of the hallway outside your cell made you lift your head. Gently, so that H/N wouldn’t be awoken, you lifted his head to lay on the jacket instead of your thigh. In impatience, your foot tapped on the ground while you stood in the middle of the cell.
“Sir,” you called the guard with a fake-soft voice. “Will it be possible to receive another cup with water? My fellow inmate has fallen sick.”
The grumpy guard unlocked the metal bars, entering with the usual small ration of food and drink.
“What does it matter if he dies now or by command of the king? Do you think I care?” he growled, not sparing you a glance. You had been almost convinced this would have happened. So, you’d have to resort to different measures.
“Please-“ you begged, suddenly stepping towards the guard, who was on his way out of the cell. Without second thought, you threw yourself onto him, making sure to look extra-devastated and helpless. What could a weak, little young woman do to a guard, other than fall on her knees, right?
“Touch me once more and you’re dead, too, bitch!” he barked. One quick move of your skilled fingers and you eagerly backed off, hands hiding behind your back.
“Sorry, sir!” you said, lowering your head in false shame and guilt. “Please consider my request.”
All he gave you was a grunt of disapproval and he stomped out of the cell, the lock falling into place in a loud crash. Feigning inferiority and intimidation, you didn’t dare move until he was out of the dungeon. Then, you spun to the young man behind you on the ground.
“Open up,” you commanded, suspecting the shouting could not have kept him asleep. Finally, you could pull the flask you had stolen from the guard from behind your back. It seemed to be almost filled to the brim, too. Perfect. He did as he was told, and you let some of the water spill into his mouth.
“I take back what I said in the carriage,” he confessed. “Only full-time thieves have a sleight of hand like yours.”
“It was my pleasure proving you wrong,” you said. “Now, drink up.”
That night, you let him have the full ration of food. For at least ten minutes, he refused to have all of it. But you were stubborn and even though he hadn’t known you for long, he knew that much about you. If you wanted to escape with him, he would need to be fit to run. You had deemed your chances small to begin with, but in his state, you estimated them close to zero. After you had emptied the guard’s flask, you reached through the prison bars and tossed the item as far away from the cell as you could. He should never assume you’d had anything to do with its disappearance. The next day, a different guard would find it there, and bring it back to him under the assumption that he had carelessly dropped it.
~
Two days passed by. In the first night of the two, you had to comfort him through another few nightmares. During the day, he was sleepy, but had enough energy to have a little conversation with you now and then – something you read as a good sign. The second night, you were able to sleep all the way through, and when you checked his forehead in the morning, it had cooled down a little. On the second day, he had regained his strength enough to be able to sit, leaning against your shoulder.
“Will you stop moving? My head’s pounding,” he said.
“Your complaints make me wonder if you’re doing well now,” you asked, smirking.
“Like I said…my head’s killing me,” he repeated.
“Drink the rest of the water,” you suggested. “I think it’s almost evening. The guard will bring a new bowl soon.”
“It’s your turn to eat tonight,” he stated.
“We’re sharing,” you said. Lucky for him, he didn’t fight back. You wouldn’t have cooperated, either way.
“It’s time to make a plan now, if we want to get out of here. What do you say?” you asked. When he lifted his head, you looked over at him. The color was back in his face, the beads of sweat nonexistent and his cheeky smile bright as ever.
“I wonder…about what your little magic hands did to that guard’s flask…could they do the same with his keys?” he suggested. The way you mirrored his mischievous grin, he knew you agreed. But it would be trickier, this time. From days worth of observation, you had learned that the guards behaved differently. Some adamantly made sure the keys remained in their clenched fists – an instance you couldn’t work with at all – while others preferred to leave them in the lock by the door. You knew you’d never get close enough to even attempt to steal them from there. What you needed was the careless type of guard. The one who snuck the keys into their pockets or left them hanging on their clothes by the keyring. All it took now was to wait and hope the king would keep you locked away for long enough to give you a chance to flee.
That night, luck wasn’t on your side. The guard kept his hands on his keys as if they were his most precious possession.
~
“Do we really have to go over this again? I told you your pacing is driving me insane,” he said. It was midday of the following day, and you were deep in thought – or you had been – until he had to interrupt you.
“What do you expect me to do? We’re jailed like animals,” you countered. “I can’t stand around like you all day.”
When you saw him open his mouth, you read in his expression what he was about to do. It was his bickering face.
“If there’s one thing I’m not in the mood for currently, it’s getting lectured by you over nothing. Come up with a topic of conversation, please,” you said before he could speak. His smirk concerned you.
“What are you in the mood for, then?” he asked with raised eyebrows. Your death glare said more than a thousand words. “Fine, here’s a conversation topic…let me think…why are you not married?”
“Are you fucking kidding me,” you said in the most impassive tone you could muster.
“Oh, alright, if that’s not good enough, I’ll go back to flirting,” he said. The steps he was taking towards you made your brain activate fight mode.
“I’ve never met a man good enough for marriage,” you said.
“And what qualifies a man to be good enough for you?”
“Hm…where do I begin? I’m not a good cook, nor do I enjoy being a maid, nor do I know how to take care of children. Most men want those things in a woman.”
“You took pretty good care of me, didn’t you? But why waste your thieving talent on running a household?” he said.
“That’s where the issue lays. Men don’t favor women who sneak around the village at night and make their own money from being a criminal.”
“Nothing wrong with being a criminal,” he went on.
You laughed out loud.
“You know what? I like it this way. Why settle for staying with one man who might turn out to be a monster, when I can have them all for a night?” you said.
“Well, right now you’re not having anyone.”
“Seems like that’s bothering you more than it bothers me,” you replied in a feisty tone. If you didn’t call him out for the flirting, who would? Although you had to admit, you greatly preferred being courted to his unnerving teasing.
“Why would that bother me?” he asked. “You hate me, don’t you?”
He was right in front of you now, tilting his head and giving you a smirk that made you consider biting him again. And at the same time, something in your body – not your head – wanted to close the small distance between you two.
“If I hated you, I would have let you die,” you said.
“I assumed you kept me alive because you need me to get out of here.”
Now you had another reason to get up in his face. You gripped him by the collar, looking into his eyes.
“Excuse me? You think I wouldn’t be able to escape by myself? If you’re only trying to rile me up, you better let me know, because I already told you I can’t stand to be underestimated,” you said.
“Alright,” he rose his arms in defeat. “After your little stunt with the guard I’m actually pretty glad I have you in here with me. Honestly, I don’t think I’d get out without you.”
“Was that so hard to spit out?” you said, self-accomplished.
“No. But you only come close to me when you’re mad or worried,” he said. By now, his eye contact was captivating in the most confusing way possible. His eyes occasionally skipped to your lips. “And since I’m not sick anymore, I had to opt for the former.”
“You’re unbelievable,” you said. Unbelievably handsome, your brain added. And yes, maybe he was. Perhaps it wasn’t so much his beautiful face, but the way he spoke, understanding, even encouraging your lifestyle. You had just forced him to be honest with you. So, maybe it was time to stop holding back the truth from yourself, too.
“What are you going to do about it?” he asked. It’s time to give in, you told yourself. Therefore, rather than telling him, you showed him. With a sudden rush of hunger, your lips crashed against his. Momentarily, he seemed taken aback and let out a surprised groan. But within seconds he caught himself, hands grabbing your sides desperately. You thought addictions needed more time to develop, but the feeling of his mellow lips on yours already seemed like one to you.
You had never kissed anyone who had truly made you feel things. Now, your knees were weak in an instant when his tongue grazed yours only for a moment. After so much arguing, it was hard to believe your hands clasping the fabric of his shirt couldn’t be a product of you cursing him but derived from mere want. The way he claimed your mouth silenced even your most invasive thoughts. It was a serenity you had wished for ever since you had gotten caught a few days ago. A moment to breathe freely, make whichever noises you desired and be as close to him as you could.
You pulled him along, stumbling backwards until you hit the cold stone behind you. Being trapped in a dungeon was horrific – but being trapped between his body and the wall left you feeling safer than you had felt in a long, long time.
But the peace didn’t last long. You suddenly heard the all too familiar metal noise from the distance. Alarmed, you sprung apart. As the unexpecting guard walked down the dark hallway, you smoothed out your clothing hastily.
“Congratulations! Your time in here will be over. Tomorrow the king will see you,” the guard announced. You shot your fellow inmate an alerted gaze, which he returned. Silently, he nodded at you. It was time to do something. The guard was now opening the door, bringing inside your food. His key was in his hands – this was going to be an issue. He set the plate down in the front of the room, and was in the process of spinning around, when H/N spoke.
“Sir, may I attract you to a magic trick?” he asked the guard. “I have been practicing it for so long, and it would be a shame if I had to die before I could ever present it.”
“Go to hell,” the guard said.
“I have a coin here,” H/N added. The guard raised his head. “If you win, you get to keep it.”
“Give it to me,” the annoyed man said.
“That’s not how it works. First, I will need both of your hands,” H/N explained. You smiled slightly when the guard sighed. He complied, letting his keys disappear into his oversized pocket. Retrieving them would be child’s play for you.
“Stick up your hands ahead of you. And keep your eyes locked on the coin. Be quick, or you’ll lose it,” H/N said in his dramatic voice. As he lifted his own hand with the coin in it, the guard followed and looked upwards. This was your time. Like a cat, you tip-toed around the guard’s back, not even paying attention to what H/N was doing anymore. Ever so swiftly, your hand slid into his pocket, fingers closing around the chill metal. As quickly as you had approached him, you stepped away, the key sliding into your sleeve and out of sight.
“Incorrect!” H/N called. “But you know what? I will grant you the coin either way. By tomorrow, I might not need it any longer.”
The guard even went so far as to laugh – even if it was a gloating sort of laughter. The only thing left to do now was hope he wouldn’t discover his missing key. But luck was on your side. Without another word, the man stepped out of the cell, shut the door, and walked off. The tune he whistled became smaller and smaller, until it faded out completely.
“Guess who’s getting out of here?” you asked, triumphantly revealing the key.
“You did it!” he exclaimed. You weren’t sure whether it was a spur of the moment decision, or maybe he was just too ecstatic to stop himself, but he flung his arms around your frame and squeezed you tightly.
“Hey, hey, you can’t crush me so close to my escape,” you laughed.
“Our escape,” he smiled. “We need to act fast. He could notice the missing key any second.”
Nodding eagerly, you grabbed half of the bread and downed half of the water bowl. You weren’t going to leave that behind. After all, you never knew when your next meal would be.
“If we make it to the stables, we can get a horse,” he announced. “I saw them on our way here. They’re to the west. The sun should be setting now, if my sense of time is still correct. Let’s hurry, or else we’ll be out of directions.”
“Dorato!” you exclaimed. “They took my horse!”
“The black horse that was tied to the carriage when we came here? I saw him,” he noted. You nodded, swearing you would leave here without Dorato only over your dead body.
~
Ten minutes later you had successfully exited the cell and approached the door at the end of the hallway.
“Out there it’s on both of us to keep running, okay?” you whispered.
He only nodded. “Towards the setting sun.”
The second you had slipped past the door you were spotted by a maid.
“Prisoners!” she yelled. Your plan to slip away unnoticed had gone down the drain quickly. With one last glance at the young man next to you, you both took off. The way out of the castle was still burned into your brain from when you had been brought inside. Back then, you had already planned to get out, so you had payed an extra amount of attention. When you reached a turn, you barely had time to think about the right way. By now, two guards were after you and you were forced to trust your intuition. H/N was a little ahead of you. The sudden exercise after being refined to a tiny cell for so long made your chest burn in exhaustion after only such a short while. But the adrenaline drowned it all out easily.
You knew you had to be close to the outside, it was a feeling. But then, all of a sudden, a guard cut off your path in front of you. H/N was racing far ahead, so that he could get away. You, on the other hand, had no time to overthink your actions. Before the guard could catch you, you had ducked under his outstretched arms. Now, sprinting down an unfamiliar corridor over the marble flooring, your sense of direction was gone, but your will to survive vigorous as ever.
For minutes you ran, collecting a horde of guards behind you the longer you kept going. When you turned a corner, you were greeted by another long corridor. Only this time, it was a dead end.  Nevertheless, you kept up the speed. What else could you have done? By now, your calves felt like they were on fire, breath coming in short gasps. You suddenly took notice of the precious paintings and statues that adorned the hallway. Maybe this was the answer.
Without slowing down, you took hold of a stone vase. Just for a moment, you gathered all your might. Then, you dashed it forward, against the window at the very end of the corridor. Your body followed shortly after, but it was enough time for the glass to shatter before you. In a protective manner, you folded your arms over your chest and shut your eyes tightly as your figure flew through the opening.
When you had passed the window, your eyes opened, and you ducked. Soft grass caught your body as you rolled onto the ground. The impact knocked the air out of your lungs momentarily. But within seconds you were back on your feet. Aggressive shouts from behind you only motivated you to keep going. Faster. Just a little longer. Dawn had broken in, but the sky was still a bright blue to your left. That’s where you were headed. A market place close by acted as the perfect cover for a while. You barely had time to watch out, crashing into people’s shoulders and knocking over bowls and baskets. An enraged shout followed you, but you were already far gone.
And he had been right. Your nose picked up the scent of hay and animals. You had to be close. What if he wasn’t there? What if they caught you again? A short panic bubbled up inside of you. Stealing might could have been forgiven, but for your current deeds no king would let you live. The wooden stables were in sight by now.
You could barely breathe anymore, but something inside of you kept you up and going nonetheless. Every breath burned as you entered, stalls of horses and other animals to your left and right. But no sight of H/N. Nor of your horse. Did he leave without you? Had he assumed you had been caught and tried to save his own life, at least? Your head spun as you scanned the animals one last time. Then, the men’s deep shouts caught up with you. You needed to get out, or else this stable would turn into a trap.
When your feet hit the cobblestone outside, you spotted the mob of angered men and women coming at you. They were holding spears, torches and pitchforks and were livid.
“Y/N!” someone suddenly yelled from your right. The sound of his voice had never sounded better to you. He was on your horse, careering towards you. One last look at the furious crowd of peasants and guards, and then you only focused on him. Only a little more strength, and you could get out of here.
The second he was close enough to you, you started running again. Like you had done so many times, you hauled yourself onto Dorato behind him. Your hands caught his shirt and you pulled your body flush against him. You needed no words. Now, you only needed to trust your horse to get you out of here. Just for a moment, you closed your eyes in exhaustion and took a few, consciously deep breaths. In lightning speed, you raced across the grass and towards the archway out of the courtyard.
And you made it. He shouted in a boisterous tone, and while at first you laughed, you couldn’t help but join his happiness loudly.
 ~2 months later~
 The rough bark of the tree was digging into your back, but you couldn’t have cared less. Not when he was all over you. Not when his scent was so intoxicating, and his busy hands made you forget about any other sensation on your skin. It took no time. You had escaped together, thinking it was your time to part ways after what you had gone through with him. Now, each day you hung on his every word and couldn’t even bear to be away from him for minutes at a time.
Not far from you, your two horses stood, grazing on the grass by their feet. Meanwhile, the two of you, supposed to be on the lookout for your next target, had found another occupation in the cover of the trees. The market close by wasn’t exactly your goal – it was the nobles who would arrive in their carriages like every weekend to spend time by the beautiful lake. While they had their picnics and gossiped about each other, there was enough time for you two check for some gifts to retrieve from their carriages.
You sighed happily as he kissed your neck ever so softly. In him, you hadn’t just found a partner in crime. He was your muse, your comfort and your home. His family was your new family and finally, you had someone to tell all your most unbridles stories and dreams to – someone who could actually reply, with no offense to your horse. Going out stealing was as exciting as hiding between the sheets with him. In such a short time, he had learned to read your face and knew every curve of your body like it was a part of himself, and you had no problem with that.
Suddenly, he pulled away. He looked over your shoulder, gaze changing from tranquil to fierce.
“There they come,” he announced. That moment, you heard the sounds too. Hooves and the crunch of gravel under wheels. Smiling in excitement, you turned to check the situation as well. But you had to be honest, he was much more entertaining to look at. Like in so many cases, you found yourself tied to his gorgeous features and the way his jaw clenched when he was plotting.
“Eyes on the prize, sweetheart,” he said, not peeling his look from the carriages.
“Don’t you know, I’ve already won the best prize there is in the world?” you asked, hearts in your eyes and a cheeky smile on your face.
mercs react to their s/o being terminally ill. ~
Hi I don’t know if you’re an angst person but I hope you consider my request. May I request the mercs with an s/o that gets diagnosed with a terminal illness that has no cure and could potentially be fatal? How do they deal with the idea that they could die?
How about mercs with an s/o who is very sick? Thank you and good luck!
so y’all tryna break my heart today, huh. i love writing angst but it always ends up hurting me :’)
terminally ill could be considered a heavy topic so i will tag it accordingly! poor mercs.. please enjoy! ❤️
[ TW: TERMINAL ILLNESS MENTION/ALCOHOL MENTION]
-
Scout:
scared to death for them. his face grows white upon hearing the news and he freezes, his stomach turning at the realization that he may lose the only person that could understand him, not as a scout but as himself.
will probably hurt more than his other half and the news weighs him down greatly, affecting his everyday tasks. he becomes very clingy and is worried that once he leaves their side, they’ll be gone from his reach.
not the best caretaker and doesn’t really know how to assist a sick person, so he calls his ma up for advice and tries his best to follow it, even if he makes a few stumbles here and there. you know he means well even if he nearly burns all the food he makes for you.
Soldier:
demands the medical center to do something about it and says it’s an order, his voice booming around the quiet area. when they apologize and inform him that nothing could be done, he nearly loses his shit and has to be held back before he decides to blow up the place.
tries to be strong for them, even if he’s godly worried but doesn’t show it. he highly believes they can make it through their sickness and tries to keep their spirit up no matter how low the day is; “this disease has got nothing on you, cupcake! you are the strongest fighter i know!” and when they smile, it motivates him to continue on.
Pyro:
they whimper cause they know something isn’t right. though they can’t quite put their finger on it, they do notice the change of behavior their s/o has as time passes. the way they drag their body, eat and sleep less, often too weak to move and it just worries them. they know something is wrong.
hugs and rainbows and everything bright makes everyone happy right? so they do just that. even if they can’t understand what they’re going through, they try to cheer them up with everything they have; stuffed animals, their favorite food, cuddles and even sets up little skits for them.
on their worse days, where they’re terribly ill and can’t build up the strength to do even the simplest of tasks, they just stay by their side, hugging them here and there to show that they’re not alone.
Demoman:
tavish is heart broken but he doesn’t show it to his s/o. the last thing they need to see is another crying face around them. instead, he asks how his s/o how they’re feeling and comforts them in their time of need despite the tears threatening to spill.
he mostly grieves in silence at first, not even alcohol being able to silence the pain that ached inside him. he cries to himself for a while until his s/o catches him one night, hunched over on the table while he let out soft sobs. they hug him from behind until he’s ready to talk and when he does, he feels much better.
once he composes himself the day after, he tries to cut down on the alcohol to be sober enough to care for his s/o properly. he wants to be there for them completely in their time of need.
Heavy:
is deeply saddened for his s/o, not knowing the impact it had placed on their shoulders. he doesn’t say much but hugs them gently, caressing their back for comfort. “(y/n) will be okay. misha is here.”
he’s already a worry wart so upon learning this, he becomes even worse with his concerns and frets about his s/o often, commenting on every little thing. if they cough too loud or even vomit, he freaks out inwardly and does everything and anything he can to help them.
he often asks medic for advice on how to help them cope with their disease at the least and follows his tips to the bone. he also makes sure that his s/o doesn’t overwork themselves at all and tells them to rest often.
Medic:
he thinks that the doctor is just pulling shit out of their ass and probably just giving his s/o a scare. they’ve been acting and looking fine lately, so it’d be strange for them to have an incurable disease. he brushes it off his shoulders for the time being.
but then as he slowly observes them more, he does notice major changes that he hadn’t caught before. the way they moved, spoke, and even the way their beautiful smile weakened eventually caught up to him and he’s completely devastated, reality finally striking him.
stays up countless nights to find a cure, anything and everything that could at least prevent it from worsening. it’s true, he could always bring people back to life but it wasn’t always an assurity and he wasn’t sure if a disease was the same, so it worries him more. even if his s/o begs him to take a break, he just won’t. not when they’re in danger.
Sniper:
he gets angry at the doctor at first, spewing out questions that he knew the doctor couldnt answer himself; “wut do ya mean ya weasels can’t do a thing? isn’t that your job?” when his s/o drags him out of the medical center, he grows eerily quiet compared to the moments earlier and keeps his head down the rest of the way home.
when his s/o does confront him later that night, they cup both his scruffy cheeks in their hands and he leans into their touch unconciously. “i’m gonna be okay.” he stays quiet, staring at them with a sullen expression. “oi know.” he murmurs, “oim just- just afraid to lose ya.” and they shake their head and wrap their arms around his torso, “you won’t.”
afraid is just the beginning. he’s utterly mortified with the idea of losing them, often keeping him awake at night and sending him into nightmares. he’s lost so many people in his life and he knows the pain of it, but this was different. this pain is absolutely unbearable and he holds them tight as they sleep, silently begging that they don’t take away the one perfect thing he has going in his life.
Engineer:
he tries not to cry right in front of his s/o as they announce the news to the both of them, but his s/o knows he’s one second away from breaking down so they pull him out of there as soon as possible. he tearfully apologizes to them, blaming himself for not taking care of them more often and how he should’ve noticed. his s/o tries to reassure him it’s not his fault but it doesn’t really change his mind.
doesn’t deal with the idea of losing his s/o very well. he smiles less and worries more, stressing himself out but tries to maintain his positive attitude for the sake of keeping them happy during these times.
anything his s/o needs, he does without a complaint. no matter what time of the day or how busy he is, he will drop it just to attend to them. he takes it up a notch once he’s aware his s/o is sick and you best believe it’ll be done in a heartbeat once those words leave your mouth.
Spy:
he’s had a feeling for a while that his other half was sick, hence the reason why he forcefully decided to drag them to the hospital. when the news is confirmed, he thanks the doctors and quietly pulls them out of the building. he sees the teary eyes of his s/o and sighs deeply, embracing them in a tight hug, whispering sweet nothings to them.
is aware that their s/o’s mental health may decline due to the sudden shock and tries to lighten up their day often, buying them things they want or complimenting them whenever he sees them. he also starts conversations whenever they’re around. even goes as far as dancing with them in the middle of his quarters.
makes sure his s/o is relaxed as possible at the same time. he messages their back and wherever it hurts, holds them whenever they need it, and becomes a mother hen whenever they fall terribly ill. even if he’s outwardly fine, he’s honestly devastated but tries to keep his head on his shoulders, knowing that panicking will only worsen the situation.
You keep reserving the good study room in the corner of the library with the windows.
This was going to be your year. The long-awaited final semester of college had finally arrived. While your friends had spent their weekends partying, drinking, and procrastinating, you’d been spending extra hours on your assignments, rising the ranks. The only thing that could make this even better was the coveted study room 3C. It was the stuff of legends.
The room sat upon the third floor of the Benjamin Franklin Library overlooking a gorgeous landscape with large base to ceiling windows always pristine and streak-free. The large mahogany table contains two enormous padded chairs, the fabric soft and lacking the usual itch associated with communal areas. Only one student was allowed to book the study carol each semester, and GPA was a factor. It was your time.
You stand shivering in anticipation outside the library doors for them to open. Mrs. Henry, a thin alabaster woman with wiry golden frames perched on the edge of her hooked nose, unlocks the door. You rush inside the gates. Sprinting to the front desk and eagerly waiting for her to sit herself down in front of the computer and give you an unamused look. “Can I help you?” she drones in a dull tone.
“Yes, I am here to reserve study room 3C,” you smile at her, and she clicks a few keys on her keyboard, sighing loudly before turning back to you, “that room has already been reserved for the semester.”
Your smile drops, and you feel your lungs collapse, “But...but it’s the first day of the semester, how could someone already have claimed it?!” you don’t mean to shout, but you’re pissed. She puts a finger to her lips and hisses at you, and you grimace.
“Priority to that room is always given to veterans first, this semester we have a former Delta Force service member studying here on G.I Bill, he got first dibs, and it would appear he has taken it,” she closes out of the computer and sneers at you. “Maybe he will be willing to share. It says that he will be using it today at 1:00 pm. Until then, I suggest you find someone else to annoy with your frivolity.”
“Fine then, I will be back.” You snap back at her and storm out of the library, running right into a guy coming into the library knocking his hat off his head. He apologizes, and you give a half reply back, bending down to pick up his hat and hand it back to him. When you look up, you freeze, it’s an older guy than your used to seeing around campus from the way his curly locks have begun to fade to grey, but his brown eyes are bright and full of life.
“Sorry, I wasn’t paying attention to where I was going,” you stutter out slack-jawed as you both straighten up and you see the way his dark tan arms bulge in his t-shirt.
“That’s okay; you seemed pretty upset. I don’t mean to pry but, are you ok?” His voice is like honey, and you watch the way his lips form the words, his tongue flicking out to wet his lips. “You still with me?” the playful tone has you snapping your head up and meeting his amused gaze.
“I...I...Uhm, I’m sorry, what did you say?” you are so embarrassed, but he doesn’t mention it.
“I asked, are you okay? You seemed pretty upset.”
“Oh,” you had almost completely forgotten your encounter with the monster librarian, and it all comes swirling back, “no, to be honest.”
“Is there anything I can do?”
“No, this is something I have to handle on my own. But, I will say running into you has made the whole experience somewhat more pleasant.” He smiles at you then, and you’re temporarily blinded by the white teeth and the way he almost seems to beam.
“Well then, I guess I’ve done my good deed for the day; my name’s Santiago,” he reaches out a hand, and when you connect, you feel a jolt of electricity spark up your arm. He must feel it, too, because he grasps your hand a little tighter before letting go. You tell him your name, and he repeats it back, your almost melting at the way your name rolls off his tongue. “I hope this isn’t too forward of me but, would you maybe wanna get a coffee? The coffee bar just opened, and I would like to keep talking to you.”
You grin and tuck your backpack over your shoulder, nodding. He places his hand over the small of your back, and you feel that same tingle as he leads you inside. It’s the typical college coffee shop filled with large overstuffed chairs, a chess set over in the corner, and little tables for grabbing a quick bite. You both go to the counter, and you try to protest as he reaches for his wallet to pay, but he won’t have any of it. He orders himself an Americano, and you stick to a vanilla latte before sliding onto the worn leather loveseat in the corner.
His denim-clad leg gently brushing against yours sends a tremble over you. He watches you, smiling over the rim of the paper cup, and you smile back. You don’t know how long you both sit there talking about everything. You learn all about his life in the army; his friends turned brothers, his goddaughter, his best friend, and his decision to return to school to study art.
“My buddies never knew, but it’s always been a passion of mine. I own my own security business, and it pays the bills, but I wanted to do something I loved. Probably sounds stupid right?”
“No,” you grasp his hand, holding tight, “I don’t think it’s stupid at all.” He smiles at you and continues to hold your hand rubbing circles onto the back. His phone chimes, and he lets out a soft curse.
“Shit, I promised Frankie I would watch his daughter. I forgot,” he looks up into your eyes, “I would like to see you again. Do you think I could get your number?” You hold a hand out, grinning, and he places his phone in your hands. You type out your name and put a coffee emoji next to it, and hand it back.
“Text me, okay?” he looks at you once before shaking his head and surging forward, placing a kiss on your cheek before nodding. He grabs his bag and rushes towards the door. You bite your lip to suppress the groan at the way his ass hugs in those jeans. He stops about halfway to the door, turning to catch you looking, and winks.
“Are you checking me out?” he teases, and you nod widely, causing him to laugh and quickly leave. A few minutes later, you get a text from an unknown number with only a peach emoji, causing you to burst out laughing. You check the time and grin. It’s nearing one, and you can go check out the thief who stole your coveted spot. You put the cups in the bin and straighten up the pillows before making your way to the third floor.
The sunlight streams through the clean glass and casts an eternal light into the hallway. No one is there yet, so you take the seat across from the room and wait. And wait. And wait. But no one ever comes, and you feel your frustration returning. You’re just about to go downstairs and give the librarian a piece of your mind when Santiago texts you asking you out for dinner. You grin, replying with a yes, and temporarily letting go of your plight.
That’s how it continues for the next month. Between dates with Santiago, texting him, your course work, and stalking out the continuously empty study room. It’s been a busy month. Your phone chimes from your bag, and you smile, making your way up to the third floor for the last time. You’d decided if someone wasn’t using it today, you would be making a formal complaint with the school about them wasting the space on someone that’s never there.
Santi: I miss you. I’m almost done studying. Are you still coming over tonight? ;)
Things had been going very well with Santi, and at this point, you spent more time at his apartment than your own. The sex was mind-blowing, his cooking sublime, and he made you laugh like no one ever had. It might have been a short amount of time, but you were sure you were falling in love with him.
You: I miss you too. However, I did just see you this morning. I will be there tonight.
Santi: I can’t wait. ;)
You grin and tuck your phone away. Turning onto the third floor and pausing as a shadow moves inside the room. Yes! You had finally caught the bastard. But you feel the world slow as you look inside the glass and see your boyfriend smiling into his phone and turning it over, returning to his book. You reach out a trembling hand and knock on the glass.
He looks up, confused for a minute before his beaming smile is back, and he’s getting up to open the door. “Baby? What are you doing here?”
“You...it’s been you this whole time,” his smile droops as he looks confused, “you stole my study room!” He quiets you and pulls you into the room, shutting the door.
“What’s going on?”
“What’s going on?! This was supposed to be my study room this semester! On that day we met, I was angry because someone had reserved it; I’d waited four years for this room, and they had given it away to someone else. And it’s been you this whole time!” You know your overreacting, but the shock is flowing through your veins like ice.
“This is the room you’ve been trying to reserve this whole time? Baby, if I’d known, I would have given it up in a heartbeat.” He moves to collect his things, and you put a hand over his cooling down.
“No, just no stop,” you take a shuddering breath.
“What if we share it?” you look at him, tears pooling in your eyes, “I don’t use it nearly as much as I should, and when we both need it, we can be together.” You let the tears fall, and he smiles, pulling you into his chest, inhaling his spicy cologne.
“You would do that for me?” you murmur through the tears. He mumbles something against your neck, and you pull away with a questioning gaze. “What?”
He looks nervous now and holds you close, looking into your eyes, “I said, I love you. I would do anything for you, baby.”
You lean up and kiss him gently, letting the tears soak your cheeks, before resting your forehead on his own. “I...I love you too.” He smiles down at you.
“Then I think we're both ready for the next big step in our relationship.” you hold in your breath as he reaches for a key on the table and holds it between you. “Will you...will you share this study room with me?”
You burst out with a watery chuckle, and he laughs, smiling. You take the key from his outstretched hand. “I think I’m ready for that.” He holds onto the other end and pulls you in for a kiss. The study room quickly becoming good for more than just studying.
Her pulse failed every time she held a quill to write to Charlie; her eyes stung whenever she closed them. At one point she started to feel a constant pressure on her right temple, and it didn’t abandon her during the next weeks that followed her discoveries.
Kate lay on her side in bed, with her arms tucked against herself, protecting the cursed paper that was causing her nightmares, and curled up in a ball. That was her default position every day since then.
She stared at the candle on her table, the only source of light in the room and in her mind. The fire danced and twisted, hypnotising, captivating.
She thought of being somewhere else, with someone else.
What kind of person you must be to fool one of the greatest wizards alive? Dumbledore wasn’t any saint of her devotion, but… he must have known, right? He had to… or perhaps not.
Her breathing was slow and even, she concentrated on it; in and out. In and out. If she kept her eyes opened they stung, but if she closed them… it was worse.
And just like every other night, the candle consumed itself, leaving Kate in total darkness.
“Don’t give up hope.” She had told her students when they saw that none of the umbrella flowers had teeth. “We still have time.”
“We don’t have time! Exams start on Monday and the AEDA is in less than two weeks from now!” Jon had exclaimed.
“What have we done wrong?” Greta had asked.
“Focus on your exams. Remember that you can have your notebook with the greenhouse notes, so make sure it’s complete. I’ll take care of the flowers.”
She didn’t know how. The migraines had intensified, the parchment she hid under her uniform burned her skin every day, every hour, it was a reminder that she had to get out of there as soon as possible. But she had made a promise, and she had to keep it: those plants would have teeth like her name was Kate Williams.
And there, lying in bed unable to see around her, she discovered what had gone wrong with her project: Dark Arts.
After that revelation, Kate went to the library daily to visit the botany section. Corentin deliberately avoided her, being aware of the rumours about them. They had spent a lot of time together these past few months, and inevitably, the castle residents would wonder why.
Deaf to the gossip, the bat kept one eye on the library and one on Kate. Unaware that her friend had her back from above, the young witch devoured pages and pages about crossbreeding, the only activity that kept her from thinking about the list.
 The day before the Herbology exam, Kate was sitting at her usual table going over all the ingredients for the potion she had found. With Jorgensen's help, maybe she could grow those fangs.
Voices made her look up. Before long, an unusual commotion where they were standing deafened those looking for a quiet study area.
She saw Corentin, in his bat form, swiftly descending towards the shouting, and followed his path with her eyes. Two of her students, Vivien and Jon, were arguing heatedly, surrounded by their friends. The librarian didn't have to say a word; he just transformed into a human right in the middle of the two, glaring disapprovingly at them until the children dispersed.
Unwilling to perform her duties as an authority figure and scold her students for misbehaviour, she dipped her quill into the inkwell and began copying down the ingredients she would need. She had barely written two of them when movement out of the corner of her eye distracted her.
At a glance she recognised Vivien, who was deep in thought, and pulled a book out of her backpack grumbling to herself. The girl dropped it on the table with a thump.
"Has he been bothering you?" Kate couldn't help but ask. She didn't look up from the page she was reading. She managed to catch a few words in Vivien's mind, but they blended into each other in a swirl of acidity.
"He's been hounding me all week to study with him. He won't leave me alone." Kate put down the quill then and watched as Vivien pretended to read. "I hope after this he gets the idea."
"He won't bother you anymore today." Kate said after a while, "Remember the exam will be in class 82. You'll do fine." Vivien nodded as Kate gathered her belongings.
After asking Corentin's permission to take the book, she walked over to the table where Jon Hopkins was ogling Vivien in the distance, surrounded by his friends.
"Gather your things," she said without greeting, "You've found a study partner."
The boy looked at her as if she had six arms and as a protest began to form on his lips, Kate interrupted him, "It's non-negotiable. Come on, I don't have all day."
The group around Jon pitied their friend as he reluctantly advanced in front of the young teacher outside the library.
"I have to study." He complained as they made their way down the hallway.
"You will accompany me to see Professor Jorgensen and then to the greenhouse. You will study there while I experiment."
"What if I don't want to study?" He challenged. Kate just shrugged.
"Much better. You'll help me with my duties in the greenhouse and with the umbrella flowers. I recommend you find the will to study. I have a lot to do today."
"But why?"
"Maybe then you'll understand what it feels like to have unwanted company."
 Kent Jorgensen gave Kate the ingredients without complaint. She had expected more resistance from him, had even prepared a speech to get the professor to agree, but it hadn't been necessary. She supposed he would want to maintain some diplomacy between them with a gesture that wouldn't set off the time bomb that could destroy professor Angelov's career and life.
Once in the greenhouse, Jon sat in the seat furthest away from her and leaned his elbows on the table pretending to read his notes while Kate waved her wand back and forth.
An array of pots, bottles and boxes surrounded her and with a sigh she set about preparing her potion.
The concoction was composed of a mixture of compounds of both plant and animal origin that Kate had never used before and when mixed together, it flooded the greenhouse with a putrid smell.
After two hours, a small explosion of a suspicious liquid, one miscalculation and several incorrect consistencies, Kate managed to obtain the muddy-looking concoction, which she had to leave to steep for fifteen minutes. It was time for the key part of the process: introducing the desired characteristic into the potion.
Jon looked up from his notebook wearily and watched in disgust as Kate cleaned the inside of a geranium's mouth before pulling a fang out of one of them with forceps.
"Why did you say 'sorry' to it?" The boy asked. Kate looked at him in confusion, waiting for him to elaborate further. "You apologised to the geranium." Kate tsked.
"Well, I just knocked his tooth out. He must not have been amused." She set the tusk down in a glass bowl and proceeded cleaning her workbench.
"You're strange... I mean..." Jon stammered out a few words at the look on Kate's face, who misinterpreted her frown as anger. "It's just... you're good. And kind. Like Professor Mawut." Kate smiled.
"Thank you very much, Jon." She raised an eyebrow and added, "But you're not getting rid of me today." He pursed his lips and returned to his notes.
Movement through the glass of the greenhouse caught her attention and squinting she caught a glimpse of Mer Yankelevich hurrying over the bridge towards the forest. Libor Marek was at her heels.
Marek grabbed the teacher's arm and something he said stopped her in her tracks. After a while, Mer released her grip and retraced her steps towards the castle, leaving Marek watching her from a distance.
"Professor Marek is very brutish." Jon commented, having seen the scene as well. Kate tilted her head, agreeing with the comment, and proceeded to grab the fang with a pair of tweezers. She dipped it into the potion and waited as the tooth disintegrated on contact.
"What do you think of Professor Yankelevich?" She asked absently. Jon grimaced and shrugged.
"She's okay, I guess. She's been pretty angry lately, though."
"Angry with you?" Jon shrugged again. He glanced over to where the two teachers had been having the conversation and turned back to Kate. "Professor Marek has been arguing with her a lot," he whispered, "I don't know why... it's almost lunchtime..."
"Great. I'll finish this and we'll eat together." Jon let out a frustrated sigh and rested his head on his fist. "We shouldn't pry into their business." Kate grimaced hearing herself say that.
She swirled the potion with her wand six times to the left and then eleven times to the right. With each twist, the liquid grew thicker and thicker until it hardened so much that the wand had become trapped inside. But she was not to let go of it, no. The instructions clearly stated that there had to be contact with the wizard for at least five minutes.
Practically breathless, she watched as the stone began to crack from the centre of the wand, slowly breaking into a brown powder. She sighed in relief at the desired result and wiped her wand on her overalls.
After adding water, the end result was a bowl of what appeared to be, but nothing could be further from the truth, soil.
She excitedly sprinkled some of it on all the pots of umbrella flowers, and after watering them, covered them all with a leather tarp.
"Tomorrow we'll know if it worked."
 --
Kate watched her students work through the test she had prepared for them. After nearly an hour and a half, she stood up to relieve her stiff muscles. She walked between the rows of children sitting individually and checked out of the corner of her eye that they were only looking at their parchment. A small, fleeting smile broke out on her face, proud to see that most of the pupils were writing with admirable concentration. Some of them, like Micael Angelov, had supplemented their writing with small sketches.
When she reached the end of the class, she went the other way and leaned against the door.
“You have fifteen minutes left,” she remarked, glancing at the clock.
Young Angelov was the first to stand up. Securing his backpack over one shoulder, he handed the parchment to Kate with a shy smile.
“How did it go?” She checked that he’d written his name and looked up waiting for his response.
“Pretty good.”
Kate nodded with a smile and stepped away from the door to make way for him. A voice whispered her name behind her back and Vivien appeared to hand her her exam paper. Kate repeated the question.
“Very good! It was easy... although I didn’t remember you were going to ask about our herbarium... but I was able to answer them. Professor Williams, are you coming to the Glow-bug shower?”
“What’s that?” she whispered, indicating to Vivien to do the same.
“Professor Rhode explained to us that every year thousands of glow-bugs appear and light up all the mountains. It’s Thursday night. According to her, it’s very exciting.”
 Apparently, Astrid was right. In her healer’s uniform, spelled to withstand the cold, and her hood hiding her ears and forehead, Kate made her way through the crowd in one of the castle towers. She found a gap near the stone wall overlooking the quidditch pitch and rested her hands on the stone.
It was the one night of the year when students were allowed to roam the castle at midnight, on the occasion of the very particular event that was about to take place.
She raised her hand to her neck, adjusting her cloak to protect herself from the cold, and looked up. A blanket of infinite dots stretched above them. The stars guarded the terrain from high above, and with no clouds, they were perfectly visible from any point. Despite the voices and the shouting, there was something about watching the sky that left Kate in awe and isolated from the rest of the world.
She took a deep breath, imagining Charlie next to her, stretched out, side by side on the lawn of the Burrow, hands casually brushing and competing to prove who had been paying more attention in Astronomy.
“It’s bright out tonight,” a low, husky voice brought her back to the present, “At least it’s not a full moon, in which case they’d be unnoticeable.”
She looked down to find Professor Marek standing next to her. She raised her eyebrows, “I didn’t think seeing glow-worms would interest you, Professor.”
“There are many things that interest me, Miss Williams, not just winning duels.” he replied in a monotone voice. “I didn’t know you‘d be interested in this sort of thing... always stuck in that greenhouse of yours with dirt on your fingers. Have you had enough of flowers and leaves?”
Kate huffed, but didn’t take the bait. She merely averted her gaze to her left, where another tower of the castle contained the same number of people as there were around her. Marek also looked around, but didn’t move his feet from the ground. Kate suspected she would have an escort during the event. The question was, why?
The torches on the stone walls around them suddenly went out, raising the murmurs and impatient exclamations of the children. Kate and Marek turned their heads as they heard Professor Yankelevich’s shriek, pleading for silence.
“I remember you were good with protective spells,” challenged Marek
“I can defend myself.” The professor nodded and looked at the tower next door waiting for the signal. A light from a wand announced the teachers were ready to begin.
“We’re going to create a bubble around us, make sure it’s not too high.”
Numerous wands rose into the air, coming from different parts of the castle. A silvery layer began to form over their heads, spreading at full speed through the air from the highest point of the castle to the ground. Once every stone and corner of the place was encircled, the colour of the dome faded until it was completely transparent, invisible to the human eye.
There was a collective urge to hold one’s breath. The anticipation was beginning to be palpable, and even Kate noticed how her body leaned forward, as if to concentrate better.
A tiny spark came into view in the mountains. It was an intense white light, but very small, so small that after a few seconds it disappeared. The general disappointment dissipated as dozens of lights began to scatter in the distance, then hundreds, and before long, the stars seemed noticeably extinguished by the cascade of glow worms drifting in the wind.
Kate had only ever seen one glow worm in her life; in a Care of Magical Creatures class where Kettleburn had brought one inside a jar to show how some people used to use them as lamps. The problem was, and also the reason the teachers conjured up a protective bubble, glow-bugs were deadly.
“Takes your breath away, doesn’t it?” commented Marek without looking away.
She nodded, mouth half-open, gawking at the scene before her eyes; the glow-worms were slowly approaching through the air, carried by the breeze to their heads. The creature comprised a transparent shell that resembled the shape of a Muggle light bulb. Inside was the worm, curled in on itself and emitting an incandescent light.
Several of them bounced off the invisible barrier, creating an almost hypnotic effect on the onlookers. The entire castle was under such a blinding spotlight everyone was forced to squint or shield themselves with their hands.
The worms had scattered within moments; some had strayed into the forest, some into the mountains, and the rest had descended the cliffs, leaving the castle in its usual gloom.
Kate turned to Marek the moment the torches were lit again. A particular, never-before-seen gleam decorated the professor’s eyes, which, as the seconds passed, transformed his gaze into a deep, watery unhappiness.
Marek pulled himself together quickly and as much as Kate longed to know the reason for such emotion, she kept her mouth shut and waited patiently for some dry, cutting remark to ease the tension.
“I don’t know my parents. They died when I was very young.” He proclaimed instead. She stood still, afraid to shoo him away like a bird perching in one’s window to say hello. Despite there being so many people around them, the rest of the teachers were ordering them back to the dormitories, giving them some ironic privacy. Marek was staring off into the distance, “But I have a memory, a very vivid one, of a situation like this. It’s like an anniversary for me, I don’t know what, but that’s how I see it.”
A cruel idea flashed through her mind, one that she was dying to spit in his face, but for the sake of their diplomatic relationship she held back inside her. Her eyes began to burn, and she cursed to herself for being so emotional lately. She carved a frown into her forehead to keep her tears from spilling.
“My adoptive parents never knew where I got such a story...”
“And despite...” she couldn’t hold back, her words would be hurtful and she knew it, but she blurted them out to his face all the same, “And despite not knowing your origins, which may well be non-magical, you make a point of despising those who are different from you. You could be a muggleborn.”
Marek peeled his eyes from the mountains and looked at her with his characteristic sternness. The facade had returned to his face and his heart was shut tight.
“No,” he hissed, “my blood is clean.”
Mer Yankelevich was pushing the last student into the building when he made eye contact with Kate. Surely she had been watching the entire exchange, she thought.
Professor Jorgensen appeared through the door at that instant, averting his gaze to Kate and Marek and then to Mer, intermittently. He closed the door behind him and both professors approached them.
“You’ll never be completely sure of that.” Kate shook her head at his comment, wondering why she’d been so concerned about his feelings. The professor turned sharply and without a goodbye, stomped off to enter the castle and disappeared from sight.
“Is Libor all right?” asked Yankelevich.
“He looks really obfuscated, but that’s usual.”
Kate took a step back, suddenly feeling irrationally cornered.
“He’s been acting strangely for some time now, and an unpredictable Libor can be dangerous.” said Mer.
Jorgensen turned to her, “To my mind, Libor is not an irrational creature...”
“Believe me, I know him well. We should stay away from him for a while, let him clear his head.”
“I don’t understand what you mean, Professor,” Kate said, a little upset. Mer walked over to her, holding her gaze.
“If you spend more time with us, you’ll understand that it’s better to give Libor his space. By the way, the year is coming to an end. Will you still be the Herbology teacher next year? From what I hear, Rhode is thrilled with you.”
“And so are the kids.” Jorgensen pointed out, also interested in knowing Kate’s response.
“I haven’t discussed it with Rhode yet...”
“But you’d like to stay on?” insisted Yankelevich.
“It’s been an interesting opportunity, of course, but...” The conversation was entering swampy territory and as eloquent as Kate could be, she was struggling to find the right words. In the end, following her mother’s advice, she opted to speak a truth. “I’m very lonely.”
“Ah,” nodded Jorgensen, “That’s the effect Durmstrang can have, yes. I bet you’re eager to get home as soon as possible, wherever that is.” Kate nodded slowly, recognising a small, complicit smile on the professor’s face, making her remember their talk months ago.
“Exactly.”
Yankelevich hummed, inspecting Kate closely. Uncomfortable with the interrogation and impatient to regain the safety of her room, she said a hasty goodbye and headed for the door leading to the stairs, leaving Jorgensen and Yankelevich in the starlight.
Author’s notes: Heyy ! This was very fun to write, i hope it’s qualified as a Domestic Lawlight, and i hope it will please you :D L’s Pov here you go <3
- - - - - - - - - - – - - - - - - - - - – - - - - - - - - -
L Lawliet prided himself on being a patient person. It was something he had to learn over the years, to know how to calm his ardour in order to achieve his goal at the right moment, to know how to bide his time. The methods of The Anger Trap: Free Yourself had taught him how to temper his frustration, how to lower his tension and how to avoid anger-related symptoms such as chest tightness or tachycardia.
He remembered several times when waiting had been the key to his success, when victory meant hours spent crouching behind a screen watching the slightest change in attitude. A treacherous whisper of his mind whispered the name of Light Yagami. L promptly ignored it.
A patient person, thus.
Therefore, not very quick to lose control over his nerves.
That is why his smile didn’t tighten on his lips, his eyelids didn’t twitch and he didn’t take a breath intended to bring down his tension. None of that. No. And anyone who would say otherwise would be an odious liar.
“I thought Light-kun had given up his idea of murdering me in cold blood. I note this betrayal with real disappointment. When you confessed to me that you had changed and no longer wanted to crush the hearts of criminals between your chips-covered fingers, I thought your madness was over. Sadly, I realise that this is not the case. I am on the verge of death, Light-kun, and my death will be blamed on you. I hope you’re happy with yourself.”
“Shut up and chop.”
“Your coldness hurts me.”
“No, that’s just the impact of the weather. And the current temperature of -10 degrees. And probably the fact that you’re not wearing gloves when I insisted for twenty minutes that you put them on.”
“The analogy is completely unfounded. There is no correlation between the temperature and the state of my heart. Who is hurt, I emphasize. Broken into a thousand shards of glass. Crumbled. Set on fire.”
“Oh damn it, L, it is you I’m going to set on fire if you don’t stop complaining!”
Light straightened up suddenly, throwing his axe vigorously into the snow - ruffled hair, long caramel-coloured strands sticking to the soaked face, reddened by irritation and effort. Two eyes that shot him with force - even made him check to see if he had not just taken two bullets. The tip of his nose was reddened by the cold, gleaming on his face. L was taken by a sudden urge to cross the few steps that separated them and to kiss this angry face, to make the frown that was spoiling the beauty of the face disappear.
Who did he think he was fooling? As if the beauty of the other could be spoiled by something as trivial as irritation. On the contrary, seeing irises inflamed with anger aroused a tingling in his stomach that he refused to identify.
L crossed his arms on his chest, his own axe falling to the ground.
“The muscles of my upper body are less developed than those of my lower body, Light-kun. It’s a torture” he complained, sulking expression on his face. “And I’m not the one who decreed that it was imperative to chop down our own tree. Watari was quite willing to give us one. With all the characteristics you were looking for.”
Light rolled her eyes. Passed a hand through his hair, dislodging some snow dust.
“It’s a tradition,” he insisted. “You can understand, you’re the one who insisted on coming to spend Christmas at the Wammy House. Saying that it was an obligation and that you wouldn’t neglect it.”
“The Wammy has a perfectly satisfactory tree.”
“L !”
“I love you too.”
Pushed sigh with a mixture of exasperation and affection. He shook his head, caused flakes to rain down. The cold crept up his neck, down his sleeves, over his ankles - came to lay his frozen hand on him and mark his territory. Even though his hands were in his pockets and a heavy scarf was wrapped around his neck as if to strangle him, he felt the icy air pressing his lips to his skin. He shivered - they might have to amputate his toes. Terrible notion, how could he slide them over Light’s warm skin at night? He deliberately omitted the fact that this act was always followed by a yelp from Light, a startled awakening and usually a punch that would make him fall out of bed.
Light was particularly susceptible.
“But I am cold.” A real complaint, camouflaged in a childish mumble. Annoyed. He had followed Light willy-nilly in the winter cold, had rushed into the forest with him, but they had been sawing the tree trunk down for more than forty minutes - or almost - without the damn tree ever collapsing. L would have almost scribbled Abies balsamea in the Death Note by pure spirit of revenge. “I’m about to lose my fingers.”
“That’s a shame.”
“ Be careful, Light-kun forgot what empathy is all about again.”
Light shook his head once more - shaking in a canine manner - before taking a few steps forward, axe forsaken, and a slight, almost amused grin on his lips. He almost retreated backwards by reflex, preferred to take his hands out of his pockets and hold them out to Light, and was immediately assaulted by a warm and perhaps at least a bit empathetic mass.
Lips pressed against the icy skin on his neck - he shivered upon the contact, tightened his grip around Light. Light smiled against his neck, put another kiss on it, his own hands wrapped around L’s waist. “So you’re looking for a cure against the frost?”
Ecstatic nod, ready to close his eyes and-
PAF!
The universe fell under a cloud of white, an icy envelope wrapped around him like a predator, leaving him in shock. A snow avalanche, creeping into his neck, waist, ears, wrists, ankles - even swallowing a handful of it, his eyelashes covered with frosted crystals. Time froze for a moment, leaving him lying on the ground, too shocked to reflect on Light’s betrayal - the only indication of his survival testified by the regular blinking of his eyelids.
A simply awful laugh tore his eardrums. Those that came from the back of the throat, resounded like thirty bulls charging towards him, reflecting all the petty amusement and cunning of his host. L felt betrayed.
What seemed like an eternity later, he stood up slowly, one elbow leaning against the snow.
Threw an absolutely polar glance at Light.
“Did anyone ever told you you had a goat’s laugh?”
The hiccups of laughter redoubled.
L touched the snow next to him, leaned a second elbow to stand up. “I hope you know that I never leave a blow unanswered, Light-kun, you’ve just signed your death warrant.”
Tears were now streaming down Light’s face. Tears of laughter, for sure, which would soon turn into tears of suffering if he was allowed to give his opinion. He stood up on his legs hesitantly - shaking himself to make the snow fall, making it slide further down his neck. L restrained a relatively virile yelp, stood there for a few seconds - a perfect representation of a forest gremlin. Or the Yeti. Covered with snow as he was, the resemblance must have been striking.
His resolution taken, he bent down, gathered the snow into a compact ball and rushed towards Light - taking him by surprise. The other stumbled back, tripped over the handle of L’s axe, flapped his hands like a chick thrown from the nest before tipping over on his backside. In a second, L was on top of him - drove the snowball into his coat’s neckline.
Light shrieked - grabbing L’s hands to stop him from continuing. L pulled to get out of the grip, lost his balance for a few seconds-
Collapsed next to Light.
A few seconds passed in total silence, only the sound of their breaths breaking the silence before they exchanged a glance - L felt his lips stretch in spite of himself, resisted valiantly before giving in and joining Light in his burst of laughter. Breathless, they tried to catch their breath, each new glance at the other finishing them off again.
Light eventually cut himself as best he could, stretching out one arm to wrap it around L.
“I may have a goat’s laughter but I can still stand on my feet. Do you want a cane, old man?”
Slap addressed with a mixture of annoyance and amusement. L was covered in snow, infiltrated down to every pore of his skin, had just tried to cut down a pine tree for a good forty minutes and had just been tackled like a feverish rugby player on the ground. In short, he was soaked, exhausted and probably in hypoglycemia
From an objective point of view, therefore, he was absolutely not responsible for his own actions.
That is why he smiled slightly at Light Yagami, interlaced their fingers with his left hand - the one where Light was wearing his wedding ring - and quickly kissed him on the cheek. Slipped his other hand through the melted caramel-coloured hair - and it reminded him of the caramel-filled cookies waiting for them in their kitchen, what a wonderful idea - by tightening his fingers on the strands.
And slammed Light Yagami’s head roughly into the snow.
Justice was always delivering its judgment.
Later, when they returned to the Wammy House, the fire crackling in the fireplace and their hands wrapped around a nice hot chocolate, L put his cup on the table and climbed up to sit next to Light.
“The children told me that they love the tree initiative. They have even started to decorate it” grinned Light with a satisfied smirk. That of the cat who had devoured the canary and had just blamed the dog.
L gave him one of his own smiles.
“Maybe I could make it up to you in some special way…”
“Perhaps you could…”
He leaned over to Light- interrupted suddenly by a shrill ringing of the telephone. Annoyed grimace, device grabbed with fingertips to refuse the call, turning off the object and throwing it across the raised eyebrow of Light, who split into a new smile before putting down his cup and swinging L onto the couch.
Ah. A thought crossed his mind as Light’s lips rested on his skin-
Maybe he wasn’t that patient in the end.
Persona 2 Innocent Sin Review
I wanted to have some time in between playing the game and writing my thoughts for Persona 2 Innocent Sin. I will be referencing it and other Persona games so there may be some light spoilers for games 2-5.
I played the psp version of the game on a Playstation TV. I beat the game at 76 hours on the dot. I have not completed most of the theater missions, but I have completed the main story of the game and did do a few sidequests.
My review will be organized in several sections-gameplay, story, music, characters, LGBTQ representation, extra content, wishlist and recommendation.
Gameplay:
Persona 2 Innocent Sin was released in 1999. Therefore plays as a game from 1999. The PSP rerelease updated menus, changed the difficulty, and added all out attack art similar to P3-P5 for the fusion spells. I love the all out attack animation and although the menus got a little cumbersome, it didn’t really impact gameplay for me.
The biggest complaint about Persona 2 IS is how easy and repetitive it is and the high encounter rate. The battles for the most part are easy and if you set up all your attacks in the first round, you can basically use autoplay until an emergency occurs or you encounter an enemy in which you must change it up.
I never saw the gameplay as repetitive as others do and I feel those who do only just battle and that’s it. I was constantly trying to get all the fusion spells, max up my personas to trade them for items, try different combinations for the demon negotiations and spread demon rumors to get items, spells, and cards (you need cards to summon new personas in the velvet room.) Demon negotiations also allow you a better look into each of the characters’ personalities and relationships. Events in the game will change how the characters react in these negotiations so it is always nice to go back to them throughout the course of the game.
The demons you encounter have emotions. I believe they are intrigued, happy, angry and fearsome. Make them happy and they will offer a pact with you and give you free stuff and willing to spread rumors for you. Make them angry they will fight you. Make them fear you they will run away. Make them intrigued and you get the cards needed to summon personas and even more if you already have a pact with them.
I wanted to return to the big complaint though, the high encounter rate. This was something that I felt hot and cold about. Most of the time this didn’t bother me, because I needed to level up my personas anyway. But when I needed to backtrack and explore further, it did get a little bothersome.
You can use estoma to avoid enemies weaker than you. It is not a passive skill, so once you have a persona that has it, you have to cast it every time it wears off. At the Mu casino, you can also purchase a disguise kit that does the same thing, but it effects last about the same amount of time and it is ridiculously expensive. Just use estoma.
As briefly mentioned above, unlike Persona 5 in which you can just catch Personas, in P2IS there are only two ways to get them. You get cards from demon negations, take those cards to the velvet room and then trade them in for a Persona. But you have to enough cards to summon it and the persona has to be 5 cards within your character level.
You can also talk to the demon painter, for him to make you cards for the specific arcana you want by using blank cards. These are also given through demon negotiations that you have a pact with.
In P2, ALL your characters are capable of changing out Personas, but their compatibility with different personas varies with their Arcana.
The other way to get personas is through the story. There are certain actions that you must take to get the prime personas and then the final personas. These personas are character specific and you can’t give them to other characters.
I wanted to talk about three more things before I move on to the story: rumormongers, fusion spells, and dungeons.
Persona 2IS is based around rumors. Just like P3 is for the dark hour, P4 the midnight channel, P5 around palaces and so on...
To get certain items and progress the story, you MUST gather and spread rumors. There are five characters throughout the game called rumormongers. They will give you information in exchange for receiving information. You then share this information to the detective agency, pay a fee for them to spread them for you, and there you go. rumor spread. As mentioned earlier, there are also demon specific rumors.
Fusion spells were something I really enjoyed in this game. Although hearing “Are you ready? Here goes” and “Let’s go everybody” will be stuck in my head for the rest of eternity...
Basically, to create a fusion spell, members in your party require a requisite spell and then that party member is placed in a specific order when taking turns. Once that spell is unlocked, it will let you know if you have the requisite spells and you no longer have to adjust the order of party members. Some of the spells you need to unlock fusion spells are persona specific. The fusion spells are elemental.
I will not go into weaknesses of elemental spells, I am just going to say that you aren’t “down”’ed like you are in 3-5.
Finally, my first real pet peeve with this game-the dungeons.
Oh boy. Air raid, AeroSpace and one of the four Zodiac dungeons (I am pretty sure its Eikichi’s) gets ALL my hate. There are cheap gimmicks that make the game artificially hard but only for these dungeons and more so, frustrating.
But I am not going to go into detail why, and the other dungeons are not bad at all. But play the game and experience these dungeons for yourself. That is all I am going to say about that.
Story:
This section will be nowhere was long as gameplay. The story did not go where I thought it would, but that’s a good thing. I would go in completely blind if you can. The ending definitely surprised me a bit. I think it has one of the best stories of the persona games.
It does not follow a calendar like the later Persona games and time just blends together. By the end of the game, you won't know if a day, week or month passed from the beginning to the end.
Music:
The music is actually really good. It is the reason why I played the game in the first place. Just don’t look at the soundtracks names. Spotify has it available if you live in the US. You are better off listening to the soundtrack because I promise you that most dungeons songs will be cut off due to the frequency of battles.
Some of my favorite songs are Smile Hirasaka, Unbreakable Tie, Kurosu’s theme, Joker and the Taurus dungeon’s theme.
Characters:
Despite Persona 2 not having social links, I feel like I know these characters better than some of the persona games that do have social links. It is also the only Persona game that I can say without any hesitation that I like the entire main cast.
I truly love them all, but my favorite would probably be Yukino or Maya.
Unlike other Personas, the dynamics for Persona 2 IS are different, because not all of your party members are high school students. The adult characters have adult problems, the high school students have high school problems, and all of them have deep psychological problems and abandonment issues that will take years of intense therapy (or Philemeon) to forget.
One of the biggest themes of Persona 2 is confronting your past and learning from the mistakes of your childhood. And the characters do! And by the end of the game you are so proud of how far they have come. And then things happen...
LGBTQ representation
Let me say that I started P2IS off on the wrong foot, but I am still absolutely justified at being upset by it. One of the very first interactions you can have with a NPC is through a very uncomfortable exchange between you, Eikichi and a transman that is pretty transphobic. And to add the icing on the cake, Atlus refers to him as a “weird woman.”
I was literally going to just stop playing the game like an hour in because of that, but I decided to continue.
What I discovered was a game that has highs and lows when it comes to LGBTQ representation.
You can play as a bi character who can confess his feelings to men and women. *Stares hard at Persona 4 and Persona 5*
You have a gay character that has an interesting story, character development, is unabashedly gay and isn’t a walking stereotype. Nor is his entire arc centered around gay panic.
From what I understand the dialogue from the NPC does get better, but I am not holding my breath.
And the one sapphic kiss scene we get in a Persona game is a kiss of manipulation and not love. So that is a little sad.
But overall, P2IS does try to make an effort. And it definitely makes a better effort than its successor released almost 2 decades later.
Extra content:
Again, Persona 2 doesn’t have social links or a calendar. Please don’t approach it like the other games where you have to fill up your time between dungeons. It is not a necessity, but there are things you can do.
Mu is a casino that you can visit that allows you to play mini games to gain coins that you can use to get weapons, rare items, and even unlock personas. I spent a little too much time at Mu....
You can also talk to NPCs to do side missions. Be careful though. You have to do the side missions in a given amount of time or you may not get rewarded for it. Also P2IS is very much like Final Fantasy 9 where it is much better to go to a place sooner than later, because there may not be a later...
You also have the factory which is an optional dungeon that opens up more and more as you progress through the game.
There is the theater which is a PSP exclusive which has side missions unrelated to the main story that you can play. They are okay.
Wishlist
I hear so many people wanting a remake of P2IS so the game can be more accessible. I am very torn about this. Besides the difficulty and maaybe tweaking the encounter rate a bit, I wouldn’t change a thing. However, I also know that I couldn’t enjoy Shadow of Colossus until the controls were updated. Like I tried and then just gave up.
I honestly don’t want a remake. I don’t trust the Atlus of today with this game.
I do want it to be acknowledged and more accessible though.
But if I had to make a wish list, this is what it would be. Again, this would be a “it would be nice list.”
Make the battles harder.
Update cut scenes? I really like the art for the cut scenes already, but would like some more. Maybe keep the drawings but update the CG?
Social side quests. I do not want social links in Persona 2. However, side quests that allow you to learn more about your character like a social link would, would be something I would be very interested in.
Make the portraits consistent. The art from the original game and the new art put in the PSP game (I am talking about you climax lady) clash so much. Pick one style and stick to it.
I want to fight Ms. Ideal. Let me do it for reasons. Give me a chance to battle her.
I want the option to switch out characters. I love both Jun and Yukki, but I want to be able to play with both.
Let me skip the animation when I create a new Persona.
*EDIT*  I can’t believe I forgot this and feel awful I did, but I do think they should keep the trans NPC, but change the dialogue and the the name. It isn’t the NPC that is the problem but the dialogue and actions. Otherwise, I think it would be ok.
I think that’s it.
Recommendation:
So should you play Persona 2 IS? Short answer, yes. Long answer is that it is complicated. In a few months the game will no longer be accessible for psp consoles. The physical version of the game is ridiculously expensive. You will have to accept the fact this game is on psp and its sequel’s psp version never came to English speaking markets.
You may not like the graphics, gameplay, or that it doesn’t feel like the later persona games. And as much as I love this game, that is alright. You do you. But I truly do think you are missing out on a great game. So if you have the opportunity to do so, yeah absolutely give it a shot.
Comin right up my dear! Hope you enjoyed this prompt, angst is still one of my favorite things to write! I used gender neutral pronouns for Grima since you didn’t specify which one! Hope that’s alright!! Hopefully this came out ok or how you wanted it to, if not rewrites are always open!! (I’m so so sorry this is so late but hey!! I’m back everyone :)
┈┈┈┈┈┈┈୨♡୧┈┈┈┈┈┈┈
➼Grima had never been the friendliest hero in the Askrian castle (if you could even call them a hero). Cold, rude, and constantly spouting threats at anyone who even looked at them the wrong way. They were the fell dragon after all, so you were never very surprised when Chrom or Lucina came to you with another complaint about them.
➼But for some odd reason they seemed very... attached to you. At first they had been distant, the same with you as everyone else, but it had barely taken them any time at all before they grew quite accustomed to you. (And it’s not as if you were complaining, while Grima wasn’t exactly friendly their overprotective nature was cute!) You often found yourself spending the day with them, making friendly small talk considering they tried to ignore you or called your talk ‘pointless’ most of the time.
➼As for Grima themselves, they weren’t sure why they were like this towards you. You were nothing, a mere worm in their presence. But the more they listened to your useless chatter, the more you practically glued yourself to their side , they found an odd feeling growing in their chest. Something they couldn’t explain, which was on the verge of driving them mad. Maybe someone had hexed them? They’d be sure to find out who.
➼Grima was one of your strongest heroes, always joining you and your main team to dispatch enemies. They were more than happy to kill, and sometimes even seemed even more eager when killing for you. They showed off the many soldiers that they practically shredded to you, and although it was disgusting, you’d smile sweetly and congratulate them.
➼But even evil gods needed breaks, according to Anna. Today was Grima’s off duty day, and you could tell they were a little more than irritated with this. They followed you around and complained about it all day, repeating the same mantra of how ‘you’d never win without them there’ and ‘they were the strongest god in the entire castle’. You could only roll your eyes playfully at their childish whining.
➼You assured them you would be fine,
➼An hour or two passes before the crackle of magic filled the air, and a burning portal opened between the magic stones. The healer tents and backup heroes that had camped nearby all snapped to alert, but no one came through for a good while.
➼And then their replacement stumbled through, someone slumped over on her back. Her clothes were filthy and smeared with blood, but she didn’t seem injured whatsoever, rather the person crudely bandaged up in stained white cloth on her back was. She called out for healers, shifting the lifeless figure into her arms, and Grima managed to get a good look at the wounded person. And then their heart stopped.
➼That was you. You had been practically ripped open, your cloak in tatters and wrapped around your middle in a desperate attempt to stop your open wound. You weakly writhed in pain as healers frantically rushed to your side and placed hands on your injuries to stop the blood, and the cry you made finally spurred Grima into action.
➼They shove others out of the way, hissing and growling at anyone who challenged them. They pushed their replacement away, cradling your head in their hands and not failing to notice the way your eyes stare blankly ahead.
➼“You idiot! You damned fool! Who did this to you? This wouldn’t have happened if I were there! And now...”
➼You were to weak to argue, instead letting out a small whine and grasping their cloak. They stopped themselves from yelling at you any further, instead redirecting their anger to the rest of the heroes finally retreating through the portal and the woman that went instead of them.
➼While you were whisked away, Grima screeched and yelled at Alfonse until he finally spilled the story. You had been unguarded, left in the open while trying to catch up with your personal guard. An axe wielder had easily cornered you, and before any of them knew it, Mareeta had spotted you stumbling towards them desperately with major injuries and soldiers hot on your heels to finish the job.
➼Grima was angry. Beyond furious. They wanted to find those miserable creatures that hurt you and make them pay. They wanted them to feel exactly what you felt. They wanted them to die.
➼But they waited, worry they would never admit to feeling gnawing at Grima’s cold heart. They ripped flowers to shreds from a nearby field to release the fury building for what seemed like ages until a healer shot a flare to alert any worried heroes that you were in stable condition.
➼The morning sun had disappeared, replaced with purple skies and twinkling stars. You had been in healing for so long that Grima wondered they’d even be allowed to see you, but Lissa fearfully allowed them inside when they arrived.
➼Their heart skipped a beat at the sight of you. You were still, eyes closed. You would’ve looked peaceful if it weren’t for the bloody bandages wrapped around you and your unnaturally pale cheeks. Silently, Grima stood by your bedside, glaring at the spots of blood covering the bedsheets. They would find who did this to you. Even if it killed them, they would put that worm through hell.
➼“Grima....?”
➼They returned their gaze to you, surprised to see you awake at all. Your eyes were tired. They felt another spout of anger rise in their chest, but quickly stuffed it down in favor of gently taking your hand.
➼“You are an idiot. You should have let me come with you. I would have never let this happen to you.”
➼You said nothing, closing your eyes again. They felt you squeeze their hand gently, as if in confirmation of their words. “I’m sorry,” you whispered, “it was my fault I was injured. Please don’t blame Mareeta or the Order.”
➼And of course they did. They were inadequate. Useless pests that could do nothing but panic at the sight of you covered in your own blood. But they did not respond to your words, instead placing their forehead against your hand.
➼“It matters not. For now, rest. I will deal with the vermin who did this to you in the morning. I will be protecting you from now on.”
➼The weak smile you gave them was enough to make Grima’s heart flutter. This was uncharacteristic of them, to be as nice and doting as they were right now, but for some odd reason they didn’t mind you seeing this side of them (that truthfully they didn’t even know they had).
➼As you drifted off back to sleep, hand still in theirs, they thought they heard you say something. It was so quiet, barely even a whisper, but Grima managed to catch the end of it. ‘Love you’.
➼And the Fell Dragon would never admit to you that as you slept, they left a small kiss on your forehead in response to yours words.
i saw that you play genshin impact, so i’m kind of curious... what’d be the axis and allies’ vision and weapons?
Uh oh...now you got me started. Be warned, it’s a long one cause I have no self control
Some key terms for those who don’t play genshin impact and want to be included!!
Cryo -> ice, Hydro -> water, Dendro -> nature, Geo -> rock, Pyro -> fire, Electro -> lightning
Hilichurls: a common enemy found in the wild. Despite looking like hairy trolls, they have a district language as well as texts, art and song that they share together making them an advanced species!
Ruin guards: another enemy. Giant, scary robot...they scare me...
Knights of Favonious: an organization of knights within Mondstat that keep order and peace :) very nice guys and gals over there!!
Mondstat: modeled after Germany
Liyue: modeled after China
Alfred: pyro, claymore, Springvale Mondstat
Tumblr media
Alfred would be a super heavy hitter in battle but his drawbacks are that despite his energetic nature, he’s slower because of the weight of his weapon
He blows stuff up a lot and sets all of the grass around you on fire so if you fight with him...His teammates will take damage from him Jeez Louise!!!
Since we don’t have all of the nations of Teyvay unlocked, I don’t know where he’d be from! I’d have to explore to get a sense for it so for characters that don’t have a place on the map yet, I’ll mark them with an asterisk from now on! :)
Idk where he lives but I do know that he’d be a devoted member of the adventurers guild! He’s always willing to offer a helping hand to anyone in need! Wether it be helping Granny Ann make hash browns or taking comissions to go kill a huge ruin guard who’s terrorizing the town!! He’s always leaping into new jobs! He isn’t even in it for the money or rewards! He just loves helping out!
Arthur: Dendro, archer, Mondstat
Tumblr media
Artie is a beast in battle! Shooting vine Aries at enemies to tie them up or temporarily blind them??? Sick as fuck. Keep in mind, Genshin doesn’t have any Dendro characters that are playable yet so idk how they’d fight but I think I can guess :)
Artie is technically part of the knights of favonious because he works in their library. He translates books written in ancient texts into the standard language so historians and others can read what the old civilizations had to say
Instead of having normal eyes, they’re slit like snake eyes. And he has leaves instead of hair :)
He has a little seelie that floats around at his side. He talks to it but it doesn’t really do anything but provide company to a lonely guy :’) he needs more friends
Matthew: Anemo, catalyst, *
Tumblr media
It’s always good to have a catalyst on your team! Ningguang is a great example of an underestimated catalyst cause she can do INSANE damage man!! So I think Mattie would be the same way
Matt isn’t violent and doesn’t enjoy fighting so his in-game voice lines would say that lol
Mattie is an alchemist! Well...A student alchemist. He didn’t take up an interest in alchemy until like, 3 years ago so he’s got a lot to catch up on still! He’s doing his best!
He gets very annoyed with Alfred since Mattie is detail oriented and gentle...Alfred is not any of those things. But he still loves his brother and on rare occasions, he’ll assist him with his commissions
Ivan: Cryo, catalyst, Liyue(temporary)
Tumblr media
Ivan would be a support character for sure but he’d do a damn good job of doing it
He’s buff but he doesn’t do hand to hand combat, he’s mastered magic for a reason
Ivan spends most of his time studying hilichurls. He writes books about them, translates their texts and acts as a peace keeper when he can. He gets information from them about the Abyss Order in return for free reign of small portions of protected land where they can live without fear of being killed
Because he’s from Schneznya(spelling?) he’s kinda expected to be a bad guy but he left a long time ago. But he still sounds like he’s from there and...He’s super pale too so there really is no mistaking where he’s from
Ivan can’t stand how ignorant humans are towards hilichurls so he does everything he can to advocate for them. He’s covered in scars from when he first started engaging with the beasts. A huge scar runs down his face but he doesn’t mind it
He’s got big, sharp teeth!! So he doesn’t often smile cause he thinks he looks weird
Francis: Hyrdo, long sword, *
Tumblr media
Fran is underestimated when it comes to combat (like Kaeya...I see you slandering this man) but he has so much potential!
Since he’s a hydro, he is so useful for elemental reactions! If he’s paired with a cryo or pyro user, he’d totally boost them!!
Fran is a traveling entertainer, he goes between the 7 nations as a singer and actor for small stage plays. He has a crew of friends who travel with him, they’re one jolly bunch!
He always acts all nonchalant and stuff but once he’s in a battle, he’s wild. Especially if the abyss order holds up his crew on their way to their next tour destination “We need to be in Liyue Harbor in four hours you are NOT holding us back!” *tidal wave*
He’s a regular tavern hopper! A very recognizable face since he’s been banned from a handful for getting too rowdy
He can make not one, but 2 special dishes :0
Yao: Dendro, polearm, Liyue
Tumblr media
I just imagine him as a shorter, richer and cooler version of Zhongli
He’d do that kick move that Zhongli does with his polearm oh man that looks SICK dude!!!
Yao would shoot vines out and they’d strangle enemies for a few seconds before disintegrating but if he’s leveled up enough, they’ll totally strangle those stupid hillichurls lol
Yao sells rare gems and other miscellaneous items for very high prices in Liyue where he grew up. His shop is upstairs by the Fatui bank. Rich people enjoy looking at what his shop has to fifer and will argue prices with him. They’re getting scammed for sure. He’ll list a set of cor lapis earrings as $50,000 and the rich will be like ‘I’ll pay $25,000, no more than that’ and he’ll take it!!....Cause thise earrings are worth $5000 at most >:)
Hes close with a lot of the higher ups in Liyue and is often invited to fancy lunches or dinners where they discuss policy, contracts and vendor permits. He doesn’t really get a say in any of that but he benefits from listening
Kiku: Electro, claymore, *
Tumblr media
Kiku would be SUCH an awesome electo user are you KIDDING me??? I can see it now, him swinging that huge sword around, purple lightning bolts flying all around and he looks like a total badass? Amazing vibes
When paired with cryos???? He’d do an insane amount of damage fr
Kiku runs a small restaurant where he...runs the place...but doesn’t cook. His restaurant is extremely exclusive and people often throw fits when they can’t get in cause the wait list is over 5 years long. He’ll rest his hand on their shoulder and smile ‘is something wrong? I’d love to take a complaint if you have one’...No one has even dared to complain to his face lol
Behind the restaurant front he deals with the Fatui, buying and selling minerals or artifacts. That’s where his knowledge is at, not with food. He pays his staff to ignore what goes on behind the scenes and the locals are too busy enjoying the restaurant to question what goes on after dark
Gilbert: Pyro, long sword, Mondstat
Tumblr media
Gil would be one of the free characters given to you at the beginning of the game but hey, I’m not complaining
He’s highly destructive and very chaotic in battle, he can do that spin move even though that’s meant for claymore users
He’s Mondstat’s biggest trouble maker. He runs an underground gambling room that sits underneath a tavern. He isn’t really into gambling but he makes a lot of money by running it
The only knight who knows is Ludwig which is not good cause...Gil pretty much bribes his brother into not telling the knights of favonious (peace keepers of Mondstat)
Gil never got his gliding certificate cause he kept flying into buildings. He broke his nose doing that lol
Lovino: Pyro, catalyst, *
I can’t add anymore images so imagine a floating, red and black orb. Lovi doesn’t get a book catalyst cause he doesn’t read :) That’s the catalyst thing I’m talking about 😅😅
My guy has the angriest in game voice lines, he’s inconvenienced by every battle, every enemy is ugly and a fuckin disaster. He’s just. Angry.
He’d be a super weak character if he needed to rely on hand to hand combat but he learned magic for a reason babey
He owns a flower stand in his country and makes all kinds of beautiful flower arrangements. He even picks his own flowers in the fields when he can (but usually pays the town’s children to do it for him to ‘teach them the value of hard work’).
Everyone knows he’s a total hothead and will piss him off on purpose just cause it’s funny lmao. But then somehow...Their hair or clothes will just...catch on fire. So is it really worth it to tease him? :/
Feliciano: Hydro, archer, Mondstat(temporary)
Tumblr media
I feel like Feli would also be a free character, not cause he isn’t good or anything! But you always need an archer on your team!
Feli has healing properties for his team and doesn’t do an insane amount of damage but when given the right resources, he’d be a pretty sick healer
He moved to Mondstat to join the church there. He leads prayers in front of the church and sings in the choir inside.
He is the sweetest and has never committed a crime in his LIFE but he’s afraid of the knights lol he’s terrified that he’ll get in trouble and be kicked out of Mondstat forever! That would never happen but he’s a worry wart cause of his brother
Ludwig: Geo, long sword, Mondstat
Tumblr media
Lud is the only one that I could really think of as a Geo but Geos are awesome :)
He’s a hard hitter but has like...No shield so he’ll take damage fast if you don’t give him those artifacts with shield in them or whatever lol uhhhh I wouldn’t know anything about that cause I suck at building my teams ;-;
He’d totally be in with the knights of favonious! (I think that’s spelled right lol) but he’d take his duty as a knight very seriously!! He’s a familiar face around Mondstat, the elderly absolutely adore him and the local teenage girls swoon over him which he finds super embarrassing lol
He has to work hard to keep Gilbert in check cause even though Gil isn’t a knight, his actions reflect negatively back on Lud very often... :(
Please ignore the spelling errors and terrible photo cropping on my part lol this was so fun!!
By the time you’re seeing this, ive already made full outfit red sheets for everyone mentioned above!!!! :D
you and sirius had been very on and off since your fifth year. you’d be in love one day, but then one of you would say something offhand and have a raging row that ended with you flipping each other off, shagging and then not talking for a week.
your best friend would sigh and rub his forehead whenever he saw you sulking in the corner. he knew what that sulk meant. he’d would lead you away from the common room to any empty classroom so you could sit and have a good long cry about whatever sirius had said to you or whatever you had said to him. he’d rub your back and dry your tears and not utter a word of complaint. you didn’t know what you’d do without him.
remus might have been best friends with sirius too, but the both of you had bonded on the first nerve-wracking train ride on the hogwarts express, and instantly became inseperable- something his girlfriend marlene constantly complained about all the time. she had a high pitched voice which grated your ears and made you want to tear your hair out. she was clingy and annoying and honestly you wanted to slap her.
“how the fuck d’you put up with her, remus?” you had asked him once when they started going out in fourth year.
he gave you a small smile and said very matter of factly, “she’s my yellow.”
you stared at him as if he had lost his sodding marbles, “what the fuck is ‘a yellow?’”
his smile grew bigger, “a yellow is someone who’s seen you through your worst and helped you bounce back without even being asked for help. they just stay by you and provide you with support even if you don’t need it.” he turned his gaze to marlene who was sitting across the room and laughing with her friends, “she lights up my dark- merlin knows i have enough for the both of us. if i have a crappy day or a good day or even just the most average day ever, all i want is to end it with her. when i’m transforming every month, i think about her- just think- and i don’t feel like my bones are on fire anymore. you trust them more than anything.”
he took a deep breath, “i’d risk everything for her.”
your eyes were burning with tears you didn’t let fall. you had never heard remus talk like that. “you’ve gone soft,” you scoffed at him.
love wasn’t something you bothered with.
until sirius kissed you in your fifth year christmas party, and that’s when everything went to fucking shit.
your world turned upside down and your days were full of laughs echoing as you would ran hand in hand with sirius through empty corridors before pulling him into an alcove to smile against his lips.
but soon your relationship would begin its up and down pattern.
you’d hug another boy and he’d hex him. then you’d fight till you were in tears. he’d kiss your tears away and you’d end up in a passionate lock of limbs all night. still pissed, you’d walk away from his room the next morning without talking to him.
he’d throw his arm around another girl and you’d make snide remarks. then you’d fight till you were ready to hex each other, but would end up smashing your lips together and would ignore the other the next morning.
so was your pathetic pattern which neither of you could escape.
despite the fighting, the hurled insults and the insecurities, you kept finding yourselves in each others arms.
two years you both lived through this until you decided enough was enough.
james had proposed to lily- they were getting married the winter after you graduated and you and sirius couldn’t even go two weeks without fighting. you were going to cut it off.
until-
“go with me for their wedding, (y/n).” he said to you the night lily and james announced their wedding. you were in that state between slumber and consciousness as he drew circles on your arm with your back pulled against his bare chest. “go steady with me. no more fighting and insecurity. i’m sick of it. i love you and i want to be able to say that to you everyday and not only after we’ve had a fight.”
you turned to face him, voice breaking, “sirius, i’ve been thinking-”
“no,” he interrupted you, knowing what you were about to say.
“sirius-”
“no!” he said more forcefully this time, wrenching the blankets off himself and standing up.
with an oddly detached train of thought, you noted how attractive he looked. this was a nice last image to have of him. his pyjamas hanging low on his hips, hands fisted by his side and hair mussed but his eyes...
his eyes were blazing with angry tears.
“you always do this, (y/n)! the minute we have something good for more than a few weeks, you try to run! how many times can i convince you to stay until i start to think you don’t really want to be in this? how many times until-” his voice cracked and he knelt down to hold your hand. looking deep in your eyes he restarted, “you can’t run away in the fear of things getting bad again.”
you knew he was right. you would always bolt the second things seemed to finally stabilise. you would want to leave with memories of laughter and smiles, not screams and tears.
tears clouding your vision too, you nodded. “i know. you’re right, but i’m tired, love. i’m tired of always wondering when it’s going to get bad again. i don’t want to live in that fear anymore. i need something... stable. i don’t know if that means just being alone for a while or if that means being with someone else. i just-”
“need to get away from me,” he said deathly soft.
your hands which were previously gesticulating wildly fell limply to your side, “sirius...”
“i get it, (y/n). come to bed, and tomorrow you can be shot of me.”
“it’s not like that, darling,” you held his face, stroking away his tears.
“isn’t it?”
your silence was answer enough for him.
so you both climbed back into bed and spent one last night in each other’s arms, murmuring your last ‘i love you’, sharing your last kiss, and one last look in the morning before he left your dorm.
you and sirius spent a painful two years avoiding each other when around remus. you would go on horrible blind dates which ended with you being repulsed by your date, ending your nights in bed alone with the typical dreams of the time you spent together haunting you.
then the war started looming over everyone and those came to a standstill. no more awkward first dates, no more horrible first kisses and no more faking interest. you were glad to not have to go for dates anymore.
there was one particular morning you woke up that you knew something was different. you had no idea what it was. you tried to go about your day as normally as possible- well as good as normal was possible when the entire order was in hiding from death eaters. you had just got out of the shower and were pulling out a top from your closet when your fireplace erupted in the room next door.
sirius ran into your room and you yelled, pulling your towel tighter around you. “sirius? what the fuck?” you yelled.
he seemed to not have noticed that you were in a state of undress. his eyes were shining bright and his smile was wider than his face could express, “he’s here, (y/n), harry’s here.”
“who the sodding fuck is harry?”
“baby harry, (y/n),” sirius said with a soft caressing voice. you hadn’t heard that since the nights you spent with him, both of you murmuring whispers of affections and sweet nothings in each others ears. “baby harry’s here.”
“no,” you gasped, your eyes tearing up to which he vigorously nodded.
“i’ll put on some clothes and we’ll go there now,” you stammered out overjoyed for your best friends.
you could hear sirius pacing up and down the hallway outside your room as you pulled on mismatched sock and tried to put on your jeans backwards. somehow you had fastened your cloak around your neck correctly, took sirius’ outstretched hand absentmindedly and apparated with him to godric’s hollow.
you saw lily glowing with a little bundle of blankets in her arm.
“is this harry?” you whispered.
she nodded and you saw james with tears in his eyes, “this is harry james potter.” he said.
all of you were blubbering messes as little harry gurgled in lily’s hold. remus was doing a good job of congratulating lily with a level voice as peter sniffled in the corner and james and sirius sobbed in each others arms.
“(y/n), sirius,” james said once he had regained his composure a little. he put his hand on lily’s shoulder as she made to hand harry to you. “we want you to be harry’s god parents.”
your dry eyes clouded with tears again as you looked at sirius who was cooing over harry in your arms and said softly, “i’d love to be his godfather.” you swallowed and followed up, “it’s an honour to be his godmother.” sirius looked at you and smiled at with the same wet eyes and pressed the softest kiss to your lips. “we’ve got a godchild, (y/n).”
you missed the feeling of his lips.
“we’ve got a godchild,” you laughed.
remus took harry from you, “you’ve both clearly got alot of catching up to do and i don’t want harry corrupted this early.”
“oh shuttup,” sirius guffawed as he took your hand and pulled you into his arms were the both of you spent the day either holding each other or harry and the night making up for lost time.
the next year was a blur of the potters, remus, marlene,  peter and sirius.
sirius.
sirius with whom you had reunited and were doing better than ever with. with whom you were ready to spend the rest of your life with. with whom you were madly in love.
you woke up on hallowe’en in sirius’ arms to a slight chill in the air. you struggled out of his grip on you and left him sleeping on the bed, doned a sweater and leggings and floo-ed to james and lily’s place. they didn’t seem to feel the same unease that you did as they watched harry who was a year and a quarter old now, zooming around on a mini broomstick and laughed as he knocked over the cat.
unable to shake the feeling that made the hairs stand up on the back of your neck, you apparated to your parents’ place to check on them. tempted by the offer of dinner with them, you accepted and sent a patronus to sirius telling him you’d meet him at the potters’ after dinner. with a full stomach you reached godric’s hollow and instantly knew something was wrong.
the house was eerily silent. you pulled out your wand and walked quietly trying to not make noise. a sudden crash made you whip around and fire a stunning charm faster than you could blink- remus just barely managed to dodge the spell.
“remus,” you lowered your wand, “where is everyone?”
“dead.”
you felt the colour drain from your face, “what?”
“sirius gave their location away,” he whispered sounding broken.
“no.”
“voldemort killed james then lily but couldn’t kill harry for some reason. hagrid took him away on dumbledore’s orders.”
you were sobbing uncontrollably, “no,” you said wildly, “they aren’t gone!”
“peter is too. he went to confront sirius and he-” remus took a deep rattling breath, “he blasted peter to bits in front of thirteen muggles.”
“NO!” you screamed, gripping your hair. “sirius couldn’t have-”
“WELL HE DID,” remus roared, “HE SOLD OUT OUR BEST FRIENDS, THE DEATH EATER SCUM THAT HE IS. I HOPE HE ROTS IN AZKABAN. I HOPE HE NEVER COMES BACK.”
“remus no don’t say that you don’t mean it. there’s no way he could have ratted james and lily out- he would have killed for them-”
“WELL HE DID, (Y/N), AND HE DIDN’T DIE- HE DIDN’T BUT PETER, JAMES AND LILY DID. HARRY’S LIFE WON’T EVER BE THE SAME- HE’LL GROW UP WITH MUGGLES NOW-”
“he didn’t do it.”
“how, (y/n), how can you think he didn’t? we have irrevocable proof,” remus asked incredulously.
you set your jaw resolutely, “because he’s my yellow.”
he was your yellow, but now he was likely to die in azkaban without knowing it.
