Nobody knows exactly where Yvette came from, or how he got so rich. If you asked, he'd just give you a smile and a wink and say, "Connections, hon." Not that you'd get the chance. Notoriously secretive, you'll rarely find him outside of the exclusive clubs in The Heights, or one of the many establishments he runs in the Red Light District.

It's hard to tell if the rumours about Yvette's sanguine hobbies have any basis in reality. Certainly he seems to revel in them, often appearing in outfits with subtle nods to blood and carrying a dainty parasol outdoors. Truth, or a sick sense of humour? Probably the latter.

Yvette is tall and slim, with a supermodel sort of physique and the face of a silver screen starlet, with pale blonde hair curled to match. The outfits he appears in are all evidently tailor-made, always with lavish furs and corsets. It's obvious, though, that his aloof demeanour hides a cold, calculating personality just beneath the surface.

A Survivor's Guilt | Ch 4 | React

Whenever it mattered, she was never fast enough.

Yvette can hardly make sense of the body in front of her. The hair, the clothes, the build...reasonably, she should be able to recognize it as Ikko Denda, but her mind refuses to accept it as such until she gets up again. If she had just reacted a little quicker, run a little faster, then she could have turned around and reached for the hand that pushed against her back - pushed her to safety.

Any moment now, the doctor will rise and dust her coat off. "That's quite enough of the dramatics. You can all get up now." She'll turn to face her with a smirk. "Did you honestly think that would be enough to kill me, Yvette?"

In the end, all she could do was clamp her hands over her ears harder to try and block out the screams of a voice that she knew all too well.

But Ikko Denda does not move.

"Doc...tor...doctor?"

What was she thinking? Why did she think now, of all times, she would finally be fast enough? As everyone begins to gather around, a single line of thought blares in her mind - that this is all her fault.

Her vision starts to blur as a familiar raw, metallic stench hits her. The form on the ground begins to morph. A silver-haired man with glazed eyes turned towards the ceiling. A woman in a fine nightgown slowly dyeing red. A person face down on the ground, mangled hand outstretched as if reaching for something.

The sobs of everyone around her begin to flicker between screams of hysteria and people calling her name. No, this isn't real anymore. All this happened so long ago...it's not her name that's important right now, it's...

"...Ikko?"

She has to force back the memories as they try to bubble up to the surface, her fingers leaving streaks of red as she wraps her arms around herself. Ikko had been so untrusting of her to begin with, regarded her every action with suspicion. She had accused her of a number of things, none of them with positive implications on her character. It had been funny - a mild source of amusement for her. Just something she would have to deal with as long as they were trapped there, she supposed. How, then, had it come to the point where she would...

Die? For her? The doctor's last words ring in her ears, and Yvette's mind seems to go somewhere far away as she repeats them under her breath. Over and over, as if she's in a trance -

"Don't you dare die like this...don't you dare die like this...don't you dare..."

...die...like this...

She tries to let the mantra take over until she can think reasonably, rationally like the doctor would have wanted her to. But as the blood seeps from the body and begins to pool around her knees, she can't fight back the thought she knows would disappoint her.

I just read Ch 4. Ok like hold on- I can't believe MC already aiming to be Santana's sugar mommy on their first meet! Yvette is a pretty polarizing character so far. Some people really can’t forgive her while some are more understanding and willing to, which is why I’ve set up a myriad of responses and feelings that MC can have regarding her. As for Viktor… He might have just missed or purposefully ignore (wearing that rosy glasses and all 😔) It was all blissful time for the both of them.

2020 Fic Masterpost

I started and ended the year with my beloved #7kpp, which I know doesn’t mean a lot to most of you, but the thought makes me smile. ❤ I also posted a lot of Shadowhunters, (so many fairy tale riffs), a couple bits for BioWare (including the ten-years-in-the-making finale of my Adelaide Hawke/Sebastian Vael ficlet collection), and even one entirely new-to-me fandom in a The Old Guard gift!fic. Whee!
