Absolute batshit insanity that the movie version of the Neverending Story became the dominant version of the story in the english-speaking cultural sphere while it's a barely mentioned embaressment in the german-speaking one.
Like, the book is so much richer? So much more thematic and clever. Leaving out the entire section with the Old Man of the Wandering Mountain? A crime. Seperating the second half of the book like this? Unforgivable. Completely changing how Auryn works? Stripping the book of all meaning.
They didn't have the guts to make Bastian the slowly descending and painfully recovering protagonist that he needs to be. He needs to lose himself wholly because of Auryn's intrinsic function, destroy his bonds of friendship and be saved by an outpour of compassion and guidance culminating in self-acceptance. Returning to the real world has fuck-all to do with his mother (R.I.P.), it's about valuing and knowing yourself and how you need human connection to get there.
Jesus christ, I'm loosing myself into a rant but the book is SO FUCKING GOOD and multilayered it's legit one of the best YA books ever written and seeing it trumped by the comparetively hollow movie just frustrates me to no end.

Today I worked on a screenshot I took a while ago but I wasn't in the mood to do it yet. As some may remember I did Xayide from "The Neverending Story" and here we have her even more famous opponent, the childlike empress. I refer to the movie empress, because she is more kown; the book one would look quite different and more childish. Maybe I would try this one day too.
We see the moment where whole Fantasia is destroyed and only one sand grain ist left. The childlike empress tells Bastian that he can rebuild Fantasia out of this one grain only with his imagination. And this is what is going to happen in this picture.
The whole book is a homage to reading, imagination and power of mind. I really love it.
Refering to that what we all do here please never forget: Even a tiny spark enlights the dark and imagination can create an entire universe out of a small spark!

On this week’s episode of Deep Thoughts About Stupid Sh*t, learn why the film adaptation of the novel of the same name so infuriated the book’s author that he sued to keep the film from being released.
Listen as @tguydecker relives the trauma of watching Artax be swallowed by the Swamp of Sadness.
Though neither the special effects nor the gender representation holds up, there is still much to enjoy in this allegory of grief that taught GenX that riding a luck dragon is the best revenge.
Ive got 5 picture frames painted, varnished and drying.
I want to add Gideon's 6 footer and her rapier in clay on the side and maybe a few bones, but after two attempts I realize using my crafting wire as support.
I also an close to finishing Robin's birthday present- making the Childlike Empress' diadem from Neverending Story.
OK, so as a Stranger Things fan, you know that The Neverending Story has been referenced directly (and indirectly) several times in the show. But have you actually watched it?
