Week three

Design systems:

A Design System is a way to conceive design when a series of outputs need to be produced. A Design System is a collection of reusable components, guided by clear standards, that can be assembled together to build any number of applications. A Design system isn’t only a collection of the assests that you use to build a communication campaign. Its like a big box of lego pieces that can be assembled in near-infinate ways. All pieces may be consistant, but that doesn’t mean the assembled results will be.

Why do we use Design Systems?

To create a sense of belonging, unity or familiarity. While at the same time offering ease of use, diversity and flexibility.

How do they work?

A Design Stystem works combining constant

Design Audit Activity:

‘Be Our Guest’ K Road campaign. The message of the campaign is to mock the people giving K Road food places bad reviews and to promote the places by showing an unapologetic celebration of the precinct’s iconic people, places and energy. a tongue in cheek response to the tourism industry’s tired clichés and a celebration of local business.

Colour:

No clear colour sceme, all the campaign posters are focused around photography.

Type:

The type is a handwritten messy font to show character and personaliity.

Layout:

The rating is consistantly places above the review. The campaign name and the logo icon are in line next to each other on oppisite corners of the page. Consistancey across all of the posters, all have the stars, the review, the reviewer and the logo with the name of the campaign. Texted is placed around the image, sometimes morphs around the ceter of the image. Business name is included in a disposable camera syle and placing.

Photography:

Messy, typical night out photos you might take on your phone, shows charater and personality. Feels witty and mocks the reviews they are paired with.

I actually think this fan made Roxy sprite looks alot better then what the homestuck team made

It actually matches with what Roxy's actual daughter and future self look like

If they wanted to do something like this for Roxy's design

Then they should have told the artist how they wanted her to look so everything matched. And before you say its because they were drawn by differant artists, well guess what so were all the other sprites and you can still tell who's related. And please don't call me racist for wanting consistancey in the game you can't even really argue that that's how that Roxy will grow up to look like because the nose shape and head shape is completely differant, that's a completely differant person.

Scientific fact, (i know, scary words for you,) an egg whether fertilized or not is just an egg. It's not anywhere near a living thing till it attaches and gestates for a long while. It's essentially as much a baby as a sperm is a baby. It's just a potential baby.

I want stephen to be the youngest junior world champion and youngest canadian mens champion but all these annoying oldies are in the way overstaying their welcome. I hope stephen improves his consistancey and artistry by showing these old men who's boss next season!

Stephen cannot be the youngest Junior World Champion as Evgeni Plushenko will likely hold on to that record (he was just over 14 years of age in 1996 when he won). Actually it's interesting to look at the results of that event. Robin Szolkowy, Pang/Tong, and Shizuka Arakawa all finished far from the podium but later became Olympic medallists.

Stephen could become the youngest Canadian champion if he wins next season (and I am not mistaken). He did become the youngest senior men medallist this year, apparently. Though I am more interested in seeing him compete at the 2020 Youth Olympic Games as he qualified one figure skating spot for men for Canada with his 5th place finish at the 2019 Junior World Championships. I am not sure why Nationals were scheduled to conflict with 2020 YOG. Canada qualified four entries outright and can qualify a fifth (a pairs team) with the 2019 JGP series. Though we will know by April 17 if Skate Canada is not planning to send any skaters.

We must respect the veterans of the sport. :) I have honestly thought he should have won Nationals this year. However, there does appear to be a strong desire to not have him follow the path of other Canadian prodigies so he is being...judged with caution. I definitely believe Stephen will continue to deliver some great performances and hopefully the results follow. I understand that his growth will bring more power to his skating and hopefully that will help him become a better skater. Seeing a lot of retiring skaters after PyeongChang has helped me realize how lucky we are to see our favourites compete. I want to cheer on Stephen for as long as I can, and I hope you will join me in doing that.

Gellux Multi-Chrome & Chrome Mirror Kit Review

Having been introduced to Salon Systems recently I have been getting familiar with the Gellux range! Chrome nails have been trending for at least two years now and I don’t see this trend going away anytime soon. Every Gel System offers something different and Salon System don’t disappoint with their Multi-Chrome and Chrome Mirror Kit. 

*Please note these products are for qualified nail professionals only 

As well as the 3 chrome powders that come in each box,  you also receive a little packet of eyeshadow applicators to rub the chrome into the nail (these are particularly adorable) : 

Chrome Mirror Kit  

Prep the nails as per usual for a gel manicure by filing the nail into shape, sanitising the nail plate, gently buffing the surface of the nail, removing any dead skin on the surface of the nail, wiping with Gellux Prep & Wipe and then using the Gellux Bond

Apply base coat and two colour coats curing after each

Apply top coat and cure and wipe off the sticky layer with a lint free wipe which allows the chrome to adhere more easily

Buff the chrome into the nail with the eyeshadow applicator / dust away excess powder with a lint free wipe

Apply topcoat over the chrome to seal it in paying particular attention to the cuticle area/free edges so as to encase the chrome fully

After having a proper play with these products I felt the Silver was my favourite. It gave a really high shine mirror finish that looks very chic. The Gold comes out as more of a soft sparkly sheen as does the Mermaid finish (seen above) which do look very pretty over pale shades like Cherry Blossom. 

Tips 

Chrome isn’t the easiest of nail art products to work with. To make it easier here are a few tips ! 

1. I find curing the topcoat twice helps remove more solvents and makes it better for chrome to stick to the nail plate once the sticky residue has been removed

2. Once a layer of chrome has been applied, I lightly go over the nail with a lint free wipe to remove any excess dust so it doesn’t end up contaminating my base/top coat. 

3. I also discovered that, with these chromes, I felt two coats worked best. Below you can see the Silver Chrome on top of a cured base coat, and two cured coats of Cherry Blossom. The first image is with one layer of Silver chrome. The second is with topcoat cured and wiped of its tacky layer and a second layer of Silver Chrome on top : 

The finished result is gorgeous : 

Multi Chrome Kit 

The Multi Chrome Kit works a little differently than the Mirror Chrome Kit. Firstly it’s less like a powder consistancey and is more “flake-like”. With a patting motion you can crate a speckled effect with the powders, but if you want an all over finished look I would suggest really rubbing the flakes into the nail surface after removing the sticky layer. Below is Rose Gold which I used to create a pretty burnished look over the top of the Gellux Black Tulip Gel Polish :

Welp, there goes my afternoon...

Okay, so, rude/insensitive people piss me off. That includes my sister. She's officially on my bitch list for the shit she said in the car on our way back from Brahms(great ice cream place btw). The story starts like this. My little sis wants a milkshake and she specifically wants it from Brahms. I'm like "yeah, sure, I understand cuz they have bomb ass milkshakes and ice cream in general." My mom was like "let's wait for sonic half price milkshakes later instead." My sis is all like,"nah, man. There milkshakes have a nasty consistancey to me." Mind you I'm putting this in a more polite manner when my sister is kinda a huge, mouthy bitch. So we get to Brahms and we get our orders all straightened out and our server comes up to us and asks us politely what we would like. I try to tell the lady politely but, my sister jumps the gun before I even really get a chance. The lady asks again and my sister repeats her self and then the lady comes back with the two cones we asked for and then I put in what I want and the lady asks what I wanted again and I answered and at this point my sister turns to me and says a ride comment about the lady and shrug and roll my eyes because my sister does this kinda crap all the time. Another server comes up to us and my sister tells her what she wants and the the lady hops to it. So we finally get all of our orders witch are two cones aand two milkshakes and then we go out to the car. Here's where it goes down hill because, with her yummy milkshake and ALL, she begins to complain about the first server lady because she kept asking about what we ordered. I'm like, really? What the FUCK?! You are sucking down a FUCKING MILKSHAKE LIKE YOU WANTED AND YOU STILL COMPLAIN??!,! I can understand being spoiled. I can understand being a little impatient but, THIS?!?! ARE SHITTING ME?! THE LADY ASKED POLITELY AND DID OUR ORDERS WITH OUT A HITCH! I try to stand up for the lady like "stop it sis, she might have auditory problems." And here's her answere "Well, she shouldn't be working there in the first place if that's true!" No joke that's what she said. And. I'm. Like. "WHERE ELSE IS THE BITCH SUPPOSED TO WORK??!!" mind you the nice lady was around 18-19 years old, still pretty young. Sooo, she might have JUST started entering the work force. That doesn't seems to register with my impatient, rude, and self-absorbed little sister. Thats just sooo,... grating...
