Dating Wriothesley Headcanons
Tumblr media
What is it like dating the duke of the Meropide Fortress?
Wriothesley is very sharp and observant, even the faintest difference in your actions, he will know if something is wrong. He may be busy but he won't waste any time in asking you what's wrong or he would be comforting you if you need comfort.
Given that he is the Duke of the Meropide Fortress, a similar title to the Iudex of the Court of Fontaine, do expect that he'd really be busy. But not busy enough to prevent him from visiting or contacting you.
If you're the type of person that would make him cute bento boxes hoping to embarrass him (prank), well think again, because he actually doesn't care! He might chuckle a second or so, but he really thinks that your bento boxes are cute and something (despite being consumable) to cherish. He appreciates the thought and designs you put into.
He likes eating meat because of protein, just how he likes eating yo-, so you mostly make meat dishes in your bento. Tonkatsu that looks like a shark? Cute! Teriyaki chicken that resembles a wolf? Looks good! Pasta with shark shaped sausages? Thats nice!
On the outward appearance, you'd think he's scary or someone who has anger issues but he's not. He's really soft, caring, and cheeky too!
Do expect that he'd melt into your touch once he gets home from work. He may also fall asleep on times you didn't expect him to.
"[Nameeeeee] I'm home!" Wrio said as he wrapped his hands behind you and kisses your cheeks. You both went and sat on the couch, Wrio still clinging to you, as you ask him about his day, you noticed he isn't responding. He fell asleep while clinging to you, looks like you're not gonna feel your arm later.
He may have prevented you in going to Fortress of Meropide many times.
"Y/N, No. You might be in danger." "But Wrioooo" "No.".
But that didn't stop you from going and having lunch/snacks/dinner (he sometimes stay in the office even at night to finish paperworks). Instead he taught you some self defense moves in case you needed. "Okay Y/N if someone grabs your arm what should you do?" "Break their neck?" "Ye- what no!"
He likes tea, but you know what he likes more? You brewing him tea. You somehow learned different brew mixes just for him and he appreciates, no, he loves it so much! Because he doesn't really have the time to mix tea with lemon or whatever, because he's busy.
He isn't really a fan of PDA since he respects your personal space but in certain occasions he will assert that he's your man.
For example, someone in the overworld was harassing with you while you were selecting meat for his next meal. "*Whistles* Looking good pretty/handsome, just like that piece of meat you're holding" You were contemplating to slap the slab of meat on his face but you suddenly felt familiar hands around your waist. "My, my, that's not how to talk to a lady/gentleman is it not? It looks like you need to learn some manners, don't you think so Madamoiselle/Monseiur?" He looks at you with a warm smile and he looks straight up to the eyes of the guy. "Scram if you don't want me to report you to Monseiur Neuvillette for harassment". "Why are you here sweetie?" "Please don't tease me but... I kind of missed you... So I was looking for you at home but you weren't there..." "Aw, Wrio!" He looks around then he buries his head on the crook of your neck.
When there are times that you needed comfort, he will try his best to be there (ex. documents finished early) . If not, as a promise or a substitute he will leave his fur coat draped on you. He'll make up to you by bringing you food though (or flowers/things if you don't like food as much).
If you feel sick, he'd take a leave to work, he'd care for you until you are healthy.
Wriothesley is really sweet and caring, despite of how sharp or scary he looks. He'd do everything to make you happy and comfortable, and it's not an exaggeration that he'd risk himself for you. He loves so much and he never felt so drunk in love before, but now he's drunk in love with you.

The Duke and the Doctor.
Mildly edited, apologies for mistakes✨
You were a doctor from Inazuma who came to work at the Fortress infirmary as an escape. You were running from stagnancy and bitter memories. Over time you simultaneously rose up past your pain and through the ranks, to become Sigewinne’s trusted partner.
“Wriothesley?” Your confused voice echoed through the infirmary. “What brings you here?” He did not normally come down to this part of the Fortress. A sheepish smile graced his lips, as he removed his right glove to reveal deep gouges and bruising all along his knuckles.
“I’m afraid our newest inmate is going to be trouble.” His vague explanation left you curious. You decided to ask more.
“What are they in for?” You took his hand in yours and began cleaning as you spoke. The Duke chuckled and gazed at you fondly.
“I sometimes forget how nosy you are.” His voice did not shake despite the sting you knew he would be feeling as you cleaned his wounds. The truth was, he wasn’t noticing the pain. All he was paying attention to was the touch of your gentle hands on his. ‘There is nothing more pure than the hands of a healer.’ Something he read in a book once, that he was beginning to understand.
“You aren’t going to tell me are you?” You grinned, breaking his trance. You had missed his teasing, he did not visit enough.
“I will….next time.” His smile matched your own as his thumb began to rub your hand. You found your mind becoming foggy and all your medical knowledge flew out the non existent window. Luckily, his hand was finished being treated. So why were you still holding it? Your breathing halted as you both moved closer, eyes peering into one another’s souls. Then a throat cleared.
“Duke. There is a situation in the dorms, we can’t contain it.” The guard in the doorway looked uncomfortable as you jumped away from each other.
You let out a long breath and dropped onto an infirmary bed once Wriothesley and the guard left. You cursed Sigewinne for leaving you alone today. She left you prone to be embarrassed without her there to stop you from being silly. You did not get much rest as the same guard from earlier brought in a bloody man before leaving. You raced towards him to help him into a bed. Once you had sat him down, you started cleaning his wounds. It was mostly superficial face wounds, but the nose was definitely broken. It all looked much worse than it was.
“Let me know if I’m hurting you at all.” You told him as you wiped near his nose. The man did not speak. Only staring at your face in a very unnerving way. You felt like the prey of a hunter. You were almost done, when you saw the man shift in the bed. You ignored it, trying to finish treating him as fast as possible. Then you saw the glint in the corner of your eye. A knife. You gulped and tried to take a step back but his other hand pulled you back. Just as you were about to call for help, the knife plunged through your rib cage. White hot pain blinded you as you fell to the ground.
“I’m sorry. I just need to get out of here.” The man frantically paced around your dying body. “They will be so distracted with you that I’ll have time to get away.” His words did not help your fear. But if you were going to die, you would do your damn best to make sure he didn’t escape. But the man wasn’t done. “But not without killing that Duke first.”
It felt like adrenaline was replacing the blood that steadily oozed from your wound. You stumbled to your feet and looked around for something to use as a weapon. You had only done minor treatments today, all the scalpels were in the drawer. The man had noticed you standing now, and had begun to circle you. His breath shook as he too looked around for a weapon, his eyes landed on your torso. The knife was still inside you. It was then you knew what you had to do. You ripped the knife from yourself, feeling the blood gush out with it. Instantly you became dizzy. You knew you only had seconds before you passed out.
“Hey now, Doc.” The man tried to plead. “You don’t really want to hurt me do you?” You didn’t have time to question yourself. Pulling out the knife was as good as killing yourself. So, you used the last of your strength to thrust the bloodied knife into his heart. You knew you would die content in the knowledge that Wriothesley would be safe.
“Hey! Looks like our next visit came sooner than -“ The mighty Duke, who came to deal with the now dead inmate, crumbled upon seeing your body. He kicked the dead man lying next to you when he realised what happened.
“Wriothesley.” You strained. Your eyes were barely open when you reached out for him. He stopped cursing the inmate and appeared at your side. You could feel his hands on your face as you faded away to the sound of sweet whispers and a broken confession.
“I love you.” His voice was like a lullaby, brining you the peace to close your eyes.
Wriothesley blamed himself. He should have hired more medical staff. Then someone would have been there to help you. He shouldn’t have gotten emotional and should have plugged your wound himself. Instead the guard who came with him had to stop your bleeding. That guard saved your life. Not him.
“Wallowing isn’t going to help anyone.” Sigewinne spoke. “She will recover.” Her words were kind and true but did not cure his ailing heart. But it did inspire him. While he awaited your awakening, he hired more medical staff. Never again would a Fortress doctor need to be alone with a dangerous inmate. He also asked Sigewinne to hold a short first aid course for all the guards. The guard who saved you was, by the grace of the Archons, an ex nurse. But, he never wanted to leave life to to luck again.
You awoke to the feeling of your hair being brushed. As your eyes fluttered weakly, the hand stopped brushing. For a moment, everything was a blur until finally you focused in on Wriothesley’s face. You did not think you would be blessed with that sight again. Shakily, you lifted your arm to hold his cheek. He took your hand once it reached his face, as if trying to take on the weight of your arm. He could see the pain behind your eyes as you moved. You did not care though. You were just thankful for this second chance.
“I love you too.” You thought you would never get to say it back.
I almost let reader die but decided not to be evil 🤫
Thank you for reading this💓

Even Ice Melts | Chapter One
A/N - Hey there! This is my first time writing for Genshin Impact, and thats what this blog is gonna be, starting with this series. I'll most likely eventually create a masterlist and taglist if this gains traction, but in the meanwhile, enjoy!
Tumblr media
Taglist | Masterlist |Chapter Two
----------------------------------------------------
Despite having a female Archon, the Ton of Fontain, or at least the higher society of Lords and Ladies, remained as sexist as could be. I knew this, the other women knew this, hell even the Hydro herself knew it. So, when my father announced his retirement and promptly announced that my hand was up for marriage, I was unsurprised.
I mean, after all, how was a little lady like me- despite my advanced training and having already done so- supposed to take over his company? Surely I needed a man, no, a lord to guide me in this troublesome endeavor of running the most successful food production companies in Fontaine.
That's what brought me here. To this eerily lit elevator of rusted metal descending beneath the depths of the Hydro nation. The ever-illusive Fortress of Meropide. Truth be told, I’m surprised that Neuvillette allowed me to go to the Fortress, but something about owing my family a favor let me slip through the secure cracks of this place.
Two guards greeted me once I arrived at the bottom of my journey, and a short ferry ride later I was standing in front of a desk. A rather grumpy looking lady looked up at me from her seat. “Name?” She asked, barely glancing at me before filing papers on her desk.
“Oh, I’m not here because… I’m here to visit Duke Wriothesley.” I responded as she looked up at me, abandoning the papers beneath her. Her eyes glanced at the two guards behind me who confirmed my statement.
She rolled her eyes before groaning, “Fine. Down that hallway and to the right. The center building, you can’t miss it.” She reluctantly instructed as I gave a brief nod of thanks before setting off on my way.
The stares and whispers of inmates were eerie as I approached the… office? Two guards stood outside of the doors and looked at me as I approached. “I’m here to see the Duke.” I stated as I stopped before the door. The two guards looked at one another, almost uncertain as they opened the doors to me.
I wasn’t expecting to be greeted to an empty room, spare the spiral staircase that followed the circular room and a few boxes here and there. The guards that were my escorts had decided to wait outside, so the doors closed behind me and left me alone in the room. “I thought I told you to knock.” A male voice called from the second story.
I bit my cheek in thought before responding, “You never told me anything.” I called back and was met with silence for a moment. I debated going up the stairs, but instead a man appeared at the top. Duke Wriothesley. I had seen him before, albeit briefly, at certain social gatherings, but he looked more disheveled at his place of work. His shirt unbuttoned at the top, a loose fitting tie, his hair a mess, and his blazer being swapped out for a black and red coat lined with fur.
He looked me over for a moment. “You’re not a convict.” He declared, perking an eyebrow. “And you’re not a guard either. What are you doing here?” He questioned, his icy blue eyes almost penetrating a hole through me.
Almost. “Monsieur Neuvillette sent me.” I half lied as he stared at me unimpressed. “Well, he let me down here. Truth be told, I’m here to speak to you, your grace.” I curtsied formally as this seemed to pique his interest.
He folded his arms and looked interested. “Well, then by all means, come up and let’s talk.” He motioned to the bottom of the staircase before heading up himself. I walked up to find an office, and the Duke with his back turned to what looked like a makeshift bar cart behind his desk.
“Do you drink tea?” He asked, reminding me of the package that was held within my coat’s pocket. I nodded as he made a pot. He turned around, deciding it had steeped enough as he poured a cup for both me and himself before sitting down.
He brought the porcelain up to his lips, taking a sip before smiling to himself as he looked from the cup at me. “So, what’d you want to meet about?” he asked, this time his tone was far less interrogative.
I huffed a small laugh before grinning and taking a sip of my tea, all in attempts to reassure myself. “As I’m sure you know, or maybe you don’t,” I commented before placing my tea cup back onto the table, his eyes not moving from mine, “My hand is up for marriage. While I understand that you are one of Fontaine’s top…” I trailed off in thought, biting my cheek as I searched for the word.
“Bachelors?” He offered before taking another drink from his porcelain teacup.
I met his smirk with my own smile. “Yes.” I nodded, picking up my own drink but not bringing it to my lips, “You aren’t exactly in the best of favor with the ladies and lords of Ton.” I informed him as he nodded with a certain admittance on his face.
“So, why are you here then?” Wriothesley asked, not necessarily in a rude tone, but rather defensive without aggression. “I’m not exactly looking to repair that relationship.” He spoke, his eyes now holding a certain fire to them.
I took this time to sip my tea and spoke as the ceramic left my lips, “I’m aware. Don’t get me wrong, I understand the people of the court are not exactly the… easiest… to get along with, however they do hold a certain power here, in Fontaine.” I nodded, looking from the brown liquid to the Duke.
His icy eyes not leaving mine for even a moment. “To put it plainly, they don’t like you.” I admitted as he took in the information without shock. Or without anything, really, he had been stoic since his last speech. “They haven’t made any plans yet, but there has been talk about finding a new Duke of Meropide, one that may observe their traditions.”
The man before me folded his arms and leaned back in his chair, looking at me with a certain amusement. “So, that’s why I’m here. To put it plainly, I hate the other Lords that are vying for my hand in marriage, and you need to be in favor of the Ton.” I spoke firmly, placing my teacup on the table as if it was the final piece in a game of chess.
He puffed out a small laugh. “You’re here because you want me to marry you?” He asked, a playful smile now evident on his face.
“I’m here because you’re the best option. This can be a mutually beneficial affair.” His smile didn’t leave his face as he drank his tea. “As I’m sure you know, my hand is only up for marriage because my father is retiring. That leaves me to take over the company. I see no reason why Cafe Lutece cannot have a partnership with the Fortress, given your welfare meals are… Well, we can supply you with better ingredients at least.” I informed as he seemingly thought it over.
“Correct me if I’m wrong, but typically the Lord is the one who will take over the company, what’s to stop me from doing that?” He posed, setting his teacup down.
“You seem happily occupied here in your fortress.” I commented, looking at the walls around me before setting my eyes on his, the smile dropping from my face. “But make no mistake. If you decide to take me up on my offer, and take advantage of me, I have no problem with saying what I need to in order for the Ton to turn on you.” I spoke coldly as Wriothesley’s happiness seemed to fade, being replaced with the Duke’s coldness and strength.
He narrowed his eyes at me as I smiled at him. “Relax, your grace.” I commented, picking up my teacup before taking a sip. “You asked me what I’d do if you’d betray this deal. I have no intention of doing any of this.”
He takes a moment to think before going to speak, “I-” He was interrupted by the door downstairs closing. We both looked to the stairwell and saw a Melusine. Neuvillette told me about her, if I remember correctly her name is- “Sigewinne.” Wriothesley addressed her.
The melusine looked surprised to see me, as she moved her startled gaze from me to Wriothesley. “I can come back at a later time.” She responded as I stood up, causing the pair to turn to me.
“No need, I was just taking my leave.” I spoke before grabbing the sticker book in my coat pocket. “This is for you.” I spoke, handing the book to the melusine, much to the Duke’s dismay.
She smiled up at me. “Thank you.” Sigewinne then turned to the Duke, “I like her.”
Wriothesley lifted his eyebrows in amusement, nodding. I then turned towards him, pulling out the neatly wrapped purple package that had been sitting in my pocket as well, placing the item on his desk. He looked up at me, confused as a small smirk held place on his face. “What’s this?”
“Well, I figured if I wanted you in my favor, I’d come down bearing gifts, your grace.” I smirked back as he responded with ease.
“Call me Wriothesley.”
“Alright then, Wriothesley.” I tested the new word on my tongue, “This is a package of Sakura Blossom Tea from the Grand Narukami Shrine in Inazuma. The best you’ll find on the market.” I nodded, before walking to the staircase.
“Goodbye Wriothesley, and do think about my offer.” I smiled as he gave a nod and I left, the doors closing behind me.
<*>
“Who was that?” Sigewinne asked, placing the drink she had made for Wriothesley on his desk, still staring at the spot where the woman once stood.
Wriothesly didn’t look up from where he sat, staring at the package while he smiled. “My future wife.”

Traveling with Wriothesley: Day 1
Tumblr media
"It's been a while since I came to the surface," Wriothesley said, his voice mixed with forlorn and solace.
"Does it bother you to be here?" The traveler asked while glancing at the Duke.
The man in black simply chuckles, amused by the inquiry. "Not at all," He shook his head. "I'm looking forward to traveling with you." Wriothesley nodded with a small smile, reassuring his new companion.
"It'll be a new journey ahead but it will be fun, even more now that you're with me." The traveler returned his smile, sharing a moment of mutual trust and affection.
Tumblr media
"Oh, this little guy?" Wriothesley stopped and pointed at the otter when the traveler noticed it. "He's always hanging out there. Hah, probably curious about our affairs inside the Fortress." The traveler giggles sweetly, finding the whole situation cute. "It kinda looks like the Iudex, doesn't it?" The traveler suggested. Wriothesley laughs, finding the suggestion hilarious. "You're right. Ah, can't believe our chief of justice is just some otter in the sea." Traveler and Wriothesley kept watching the otter, sharing laughter together while waiting for their boat to arrive.
Together, they walked through the pathway leading to the Opera Epiclese. There was silence between them, but not the kind that felt awkward or uncomfortable.
Tumblr media
As they reached the entrance of the Opera, Wriothesley stopped and turned to the traveler.
"I missed watching performances here." He admitted. But despite the longing in his words, his voice was calm as ever.
"Why don't we go in? No trial or performance is going on." The traveler offered and led the way inside.
As they stepped in, they both took a moment to admire the pristine structure, the way each corner gleamed with beauty.
"It's still the same, just like the day of my trial," Wriothesley spoke and walked ahead, letting the traveler follow his trail.
As they stood together before the Oratrice, Wriothesley pointed at the podium where he once stood.
Tumblr media
"That's where I was questioned and sentenced guilty." He took a deep breath before continuing. "It wasn't a long trial. I quickly admitted everything, after all, what's there to hide?" Wriothesley said with a soft tone in his voice.
The traveler listens intently, staring at the stage before them.
"Lady Furina was even disappointed at how boring my trial was. Ah, how bad I felt to bring dismay to the former archon herself." Wriothesley shook his head as he grinned, finding the thought silly.
"I'm sorry... for all that you went through. No child deserves that." The traveler frowned, showing their concern for Wriothesley.
The Duke faces their way and pats their head. "Sorry for what? It's all in the past now, don't look so down." He chuckled, trying to lift the mood.
"All the things that happened before, led me here today. And now I am standing here, with you."
Wriothesley spoke with a radiant look in his eyes, showing his strength as a person who found his new place in life.
He regrets nothing. That's the kind of person he is. And that makes him even more admirable in the traveler's eyes.
#TravelingwithWrio Day 1: Part One
[Please know this is a Lumine POV fanfic. I will not tolerate any negative comments. This is also a self-insert journey x Wriothesley - where he agrees to travel with you and Paimon is non-existent. Reposting the fic itself is not allowed. Reusing my photos are OK with credit.]

Neuvillette & Wriothesley Dynamic
SPOILER AHEAD. PLEASE LEAVE IF YOU DON'T WANT TO READ. ANALYSIS UNDER THE CUT.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I'll keep this really short. I just want to share my appreciation and thoughts of Neuvillette and Wriothesley's dynamic. You may see this platonically (canon) or romantically (fanon) however you might wish.
Based from the dialogues (I believe 2 dialogues at the start of the Fontaine Act III, and many more) Wriothesley and Neuvillette had many personal business and interactions despite of the Meropide Fortress being autonomous. Wrio treated Traveller and Paimon as guests because of their connection with Neuvi.
I thought that by the end of the Archon Quest (Acts III and IV of Fontaine) there will be beef between them (based on the trailer, and the voiceline, which I believeD (capital for emphasis) was Wrio's "Is this what Justice means to you, Neuvillette?" ) . I'm quite happy that this didn't happen.
Although Wrio joked about Neuvi's powers, he didn't really pry on what Neuvi's actual power was. But instead he believed that he was capable to subdue the waters(for the mean time).
They're both opposites, we can already see that; from the color combinations to their attitudes and behavior. But from what I can see they believed in each other's capabilities.
EDIT: I will further correct and edit this once I finished the story quests of Neuvi AND Wrio. Thanks

Genshin first dates 3 🌹
✨Set in Fontaine✨
Mildly edited, apologies for mistakes🫶
——-
Wriothesley’s idea of a first date would be so unusual, that you wouldn’t even notice you were on one. He would invite you down to his office, a regular occurrence for staff at the Fortress. He would tell you to take a seat opposite him. Instead of the usual papers and files littering his desk, there would be a tray of biscuits and two cups of tea. You would go along with the conversation waiting for the point to become clear. He would ask you questions about yourself and you would reciprocate to be polite, but the whole situation would honestly leave you feeling flustered and bewildered. This would feel much too informal for a staff meeting. After one too many giggles and m feelings surfacing you would break and ask him why he called you here. Now it would be his turn to be flustered.
“What?!” He would exclaim confused. “You mean you didn’t know this was a date?”
After he apologises profusely, claiming that he thought he had made his intentions clear enough, he would tell you you are welcome to leave if you so wished. You would of course deny telling him that you are relieved to find out he feels to same as you. He would release a soft sigh before taking your hand from the table and pressing a kiss to it. Your breath would hitch and you would melt, staring at him as if he came from a dream.
Neuvillette wouldn’t ask you out. In fact he wouldn’t even register his feelings for you, discounting them at every opportunity. He believes he cannot feel like a human, but Sigewinne knows better. She sees the way he looks at you, the fondness in his voice when he talks about you (which is a lot). She also sees the red tint on your face whenever he gets too close, and the way you smile that little bit more when he’s around. So naturally, she would set you up. She would make Neuvillette take the day off work and recommend a sunset walk, knowing he would go to his favourite place. You sit at the Fountain of Lucille painting your latest commission, the fountain at sunset. You would not notice the Iudex strolling up behind you. Sigewinne is a dear friend to you, so you would be giving her commission every bit of your focus.
“That is a marvellous piece.” His voice would make you jump. He would chuckle and press his hand to the small of your back. “My apologies I did not mean to startle you.” Your head would instantly become dazed at his touch, leaving you wondering where your previous focus had drifted off to. You would tell him not to worry and offer him to join you since you could use a break. As golden hour descends upon you both, you would find yourselves sitting a little too close after talking for quite some time. His eyes would stare intensely when the shining rays graced your body. He would not resist kissing you curiously when you look so beautiful, like a fallen star sent from Celestia straight to him.

New favorite fanon dynamic:
Childe being an annoying little brother figure to Wriostheley. I could absolutely see him repeatedly escaping his cell with no intention of leaving the fortress itself.
(Also, he would defo volunteer to try Signewinne’s milkshakes. He’s a sucker like that.)

All jokes aside, considering how much of a tea-freak Wriothesley is, can you imagine how FUCKING ELATED he is going to be when you offer him a room in a gigantic teapot?

----------------------------------------------------
Truth be told, I think that napkins do not matter. At least, not to the extent that I have to decide on a napkin design and crest for a ball that I will only attend for at most three hours. I sighed, looking at the table before me with at least twelve different designs, with the changes of each creme colored cloth being minimal at best, my head falling into my hand. “Do I have to decide all of this? I mean seriously, what’s next? Dishware?”  I asked rhetorically as Violet crossed her arms at me.
“Yes!” She responded, exasperated as she threw the blanket off of a cart that must have held at least 25 different plates and bowls, all of varying design and color. My eyes bugged out my head as I looked back and forth from the cart to Violet. “It is both my duty to your family, as well as to the Ton to make sure that your ball goes as smoothly as possible!” She admonished, tapping her finger against the napkins.
“Violet you know as well as I do that I do not care about napkins, or dishware, or cutlery, or dresses, or any of this. Truth be told I don’t even want a ball.” I responded, staring at the creme napkin with gold embroidery before picking it up and handing it to the stern woman before me.
“Believe me, I am well aware.” She responded, taking the napkin from my hand before handing it off to another servant, no doubt for it to be replicated and used at the ball. She began to place plates on the table, their corresponding bowls on top of them. “But, this ball is not only to introduce you as a lady but also to-”
“Find a suitable lord to court me, yes I know.” I groaned, overwhelmed by the pure amount of porcelain on the dining room table. My mind immediately thought of Duke Wriothesley. It had been a weak since my escapade down to the Fortress of Meropide, and still no word from the Duke.
The ball was in two days- “Y/N.” Violet’s voice jolted me from my thoughts, as I looked from the bowls to her. A Melusine now stood at her side, adorning the uniform of an officer. I quickly placed my fingers along the china that had garnered my vision, a creme colored plate with gold embossing to match the napkins. Violet nodded as the Melusine began to speak.
“Lady Y/N, you are requested for a meeting with Monsieur Nuevillette at the Opera Epiclese.” She spoke firmly. “I am to escort you there at your earliest convenience.” She informed as she watched Violet hand the chosen dishware to another servant.
“We are almost done.” Violet assured Melusine before turning to me. “Gold or Silver cutlery?” She questioned as I thought for a moment.
What on earth did Monsieur Neuvilette need me for? “Gold.” I decided, before standing up as Violet nodded to the third and last servant in the room. The man quickly ushered out as the Melusine began to guide me to the Aquabus.

The melusine guard guided me to an upper room of the Opera Epiclese before stopping in front of a pair of doors in the corridor. She stopped before them, bowing as she motioned to the handles, “Here you are Lady Y/N.”
I smiled, giving a slight nod to the melusine. “Thank you.” I spoke before pulling the door handle and entering the room, large doors closing softly behind me. The room had bookshelves lining either walls, the doors laid opposite a wall of windows and curtains, through which sunlight shone through. Two couches laid in the middle of the room, a long chocolate colored table resting between the two, a glass vase holding some rainbow roses front and center.
It was at this time that my eyes landed on the delicate tea set that sat next to the vase, and the man sitting on the couch, not facing me. My brows furrowed as I quickly assessed the head of fluffy black hair. Duke Wriothesley? I coughed to announce my presence.
The warden turned his head over his shoulder, a smirk as his gaze landed on my standing form. “Ah, Y/N. I was beginning to wonder when you’d make it.” He announced, turning back as he poured a separate cup of tea. “Please, sit.” He motioned to the ice blue sofa.
I rounded the seating, taking a seat in front of the Duke on the center of the couch as he pushed the teacup towards me. I picked up and drank, raising my eyebrows at him expectantly. The smirk on his face never faltered, “I’m sure you know I didn’t just bring you here to drink tea.”
“Whatever do you mean?” I asked, placing my tea back down on the table, “I love this little tea party of ours.” It was now my turn to smirk as the Duke nodded, sipping his own tea. It was at this moment that I noticed the magazines lying on the table. ‘The Steambird: What to expect from Lady Y/N L/N’s Courting Ball!’, the picture on the cover being one of me shopping last week at a fabric store, holding up a violet textile.
‘Lady Y/N L/N - What Color will the dress be? More on Page 5!’ Hubel read with a photo of me outside the Opera Epiclese admiring the Marcottes. “Bit of light reading.” Wriothesley teased, tearing my gaze from the papers to him. “Seems the media and I are wondering the same thing.” He spoke, leaning back as he crossed his arms, grinning at me. “What color is the dress?”
“You invited me here to ask me what color dress I’m gonna wear?” I laughed, as the grin was replaced with a smirk, almost defensively. “Relax.” I waved my hand as his crossed arms seemed to relax slightly.  “Besides, I haven’t really… Y’know…” I trailed off, grabbing one of the tea cakes off the table.
His grin returned. “You haven’t gotten a dress yet.” He spoke aloud in realization. I opened my mouth to protest, but quickly realized I had no words. I shut my mouth in discontent, as he burst out laughing. “What would the precious Ton say if they knew the Lady to be courted in less than 48 hours didn’t even have a dress?” he posed, a smile evident on his face as a blush rose on my cheek.
“I- Shut up!” I implored, hitting the Duke with a rolled up magazine as he continued laughing. “I was supposed to get fitted today, mind you, but you summoned me here for this tea party!” I spoke, striking him with the magazine to punctuate my sentence.
A small knock was heard at the door. “Ah, seems Coutrie is here.” Wriothesley spoke, before standing up. “Don’t worry, this is why I came prepared.” He winked at me before moving to open the door for the Melusine.
Coutrie walked in, holding a room divider as well as a suitcase that seemed to be bursting at the seams. Wriothesley offered his help but the Melusine shook her head, “Hello.” she spoke, nodding to me as she sat her things down. “You must be Lady Y/N.” She looked at me as I could only nod in response, out of shock.
This was the best seamstress in all of Fontaine, how did Wriothesley convince her- “Have you decided on a color yet?” She asked as she set up the folding wall. I quickly stood up, walking over.
“Uh, not quite to be honest. The theme colors for the ball so far are going to be gold and a cream color. We were planning on doing silk flowers from Liyue for the tables and vases.” I nodded.
The Melusine grabbed my hand, leading me behind the room divider. “A nice maroon will do then. You’ll match the flowers.” She nodded, before going over to her suitcase. She looked up at Wriothesley who stood on the other side of the divider, her eyes narrowing in on his tie.
She rummaged through the trunk before finally grabbing a maroon tie. It seemed to be the same color as the one the Duke currently wore, only with a slight floral pattern embedded in it. She handed it to the lord of the fortress. “Thank you.” He nodded, as Coutrie headed back towards me.
I looked towards Wriothesley, confused. “You… hired Coutrie to make a dress for me?” I asked as he placed the tie in his pocket.
The Duke took a moment to think before continuing, “Yes, but to be fair I also had to find a matching tie to your dress, so two birds one stone.” He smiled, leaning against the arm of the couch he previously sat on.
He took another sip of his tea before continuing, “Besides, according to these magazines, your dress color is the greatest mystery for this week.” he commented, holding the tea in his hand, “Apparently, even such a great mystery that you have two tails from other Lords trying to figure out what color dress you are going to wear.” He spoke, looking outside the windows as he sipped on his tea.
My brows furrowed. How had I not noticed that? Coutrie had grabbed a measuring tape and was starting to take measurements. “Will you need a corset for the day of?” She asked, placing the tape around my waist.
“No,” I spoke, watching as the Duke walked over to the windows, looking out. “I uh, I have one. I just wasn’t aware I was going to be fitted here.” I spoke to the Melusine as she nodded, rummaging through the trunk before handing me a corset. I nodded in thanks as she put it on.
“Anyhow, the one thing people will certainly be talking about at the ball is who found out your big secret.” Wriothesley spoke, turning around and walking back towards the surface, making eye contact with me over the dividing wall. “And if you want me to be the one to win, then I’m afraid two things are necessary.” He spoke, placing the now empty teacup back down on the table.
I breathed in as Coutrie tightened the corset, Wriothesley giving me a small sympathetic look. “Total secrecy for your dress. Coutrie here,” he motioned to the Melusine who peaked her head around the divider, giving a thumbs up before continuing to take measurements. “Has promised complete discretion and is the best seamstress in Fontaine.” He nodded, arms crossing as he leaned against the couch once more.
“You’re lucky I owed Sigewinne a favor, your grace.” The Melusine spoke as I raised an eyebrow at Wriothesley, who looked jokingly annoyed at that comment.
“Indeed I am.” He nodded, “The second thing is that I match your dress.” he addressed me once more as I realized that’s why Coutrie has handed him the tie earlier. “Besides, it’s nice to see the sun for once.” He spoke, smiling as he looked over at the windows, sunlight pouring in through the glass.
I took the time to admire the Duke’s face. My brows furrowed as I stared at the scar trailing down his neck, highlighting how soft his skin looked- “If you feel so inclined to stare, you could always take a picture.” He spoke, smirking as he looked at me out of the corner of his eye.
I felt a blush rise to my cheeks once more as the Melusine grabbed some fabric out of her trunk. She handed it to me, “This is going to be the material and color for the dress. Let me know if you have any problems with it.” I chose to direct my concentration to the maroon cloth rather than the awkward air with the Duke.
I nodded at Coutrie. “This should be fine, thank you.” I spoke, handing it back to her as she put it back in the trunk before taking off the corset.
Wriothesley turned to me, “I suppose I should get going. People will talk if we leave at the same time, and we can’t have them thinking I’m cheating for your hand in marriage.” The Duke winked, holding out his hand over the paper wall.
I smiled in response. “No, we cannot.” I nodded as I placed my hand in his. He grinned, before kissing the back of my hand.
“I’ll see you at the ball then, Y/N.” He nodded, handing a  pouch of Mora over to Coutrie, who nodded in thanks as she began to pull out more fabric in preparation for the dress.
“I can pay you back!” I exclaimed as Wriothesley headed to the door. Heturned before exiting.
“No need, Princess. Just promise me you’ll actually wear it.” He winked before closing the door.
<*> “So… How’d it go?” Sigewinne asked as Wriothesley stared at the mountain of paperwork that had accumulated in his absence.
Eyes growing wider, if at all possible, the Duke sat in his chair. “I’d say it went well.” He spoke as the medic Melusine placed her latest health concoction on the desk, much to the chagrin of ‘His Grace’.
“You know the deal.” She spoke as he winced before picking up the drink and taking a sip from the waiting straw.
“Yeah yeah. Let me get to this mountain.” He spoke, waving her off as she happily skipped out of the office. “The things I’m doing for that woman…” he trailed off, his pen now scratching the first of many official Fontanian documents to come.
