Anyone interested in me adding The Orville to the list of things I will write for? Specifically for Ed & Gordon. I love Seth so much.
Is fanfiction for The Orville a thing? It must be. I haven't seen any, really. Although I haven't looked much.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I'm planning on giving my Masterlist a makeover soon with a subsection listing characters/fandoms I am currently open for requests/asks on now that I'm working on Peaky Blinders in addition to Marvel stuff. So I'm open to ideas on what you'd like me to add.

Excessive Force : Tom Ludlow x Fem Nurse Reader (COLLAB W/ THE INCREDIBLE @johnwickb1tsch) - Chapter One Two Three Four
Tumblr media
TW: sexual harassment, no means yes, asshole doctors/doctor slander (sorry if you’re an actual good doctor), mentions of alcoholism/sickness, burns
You should probably decide to do whatever the opposite of man up is-pussy down?-and specifically request to not have Officer Ludlow ever be on your patient roster again. He’s bad for your health and, despite being the one always putting him back together, you’re bad for his, too.
You’re trying not to morally question yourself about why you didn’t do something after the first, second, or hell, even third time he borderline sexually harassed you…  You’re trying not to think too much about why you don’t do it now: open the manager’s door with your shaking, clammy hand and say “hey, creepy patient, please keep him away from me”. It would be so easy. This stuff happens a lot to the other staff in the ED, and always gets solved without a problem.
You don’t do it, though. You walk away without blacklisting Tom Ludlow. And doesn’t that just say mountains about you. But, anyway, you have your own job to do fighting disease and trauma from the mean streets of the City of Angels, so you don’t really have time for all this petty drama bullshit.
Whatever helps you sleep at night.
You’re not really sure how it’s possible, after eight years of higher education plus residency training, but doctors really can be idiots sometimes.
“Discharge, really?” You whisper to yourself, clicking on the order to see if it’s just a mistake-nope, legit.
You grab the clipboard from your patient’s bedside and go hunt down Dr. Mercer, who is currently standing at the desk flipping through paperwork.
“Hey, Julian, can I have a quick second?”
He gives you one of his signature, charming white smiles that can calm almost any belligerent patient down. “Of course. Anything for my favorite nurse.” He motions for you to sit in the swivel chair, and takes the one opposite from you.
Julian makes it a point to give you his full attention, and that never fails to fluster you, but you can shoulder through it most of the time. The man is too handsome for his own good, and you haven’t found a female in this hospital immune to his charm-even Shelby, the housekeeper who is strictly attracted to women… and one man: Dr. Mercer.
“You put in a discharge order for room 13?”
“Hmm, one sec.” He leans over to click through the computer, then turns back. “Yes, is there a problem?”
“Well, I thought we would be admitting him?”
“No, that won’t be necessary. He’s free to go home.”
“Julian.” You’ve known this man for a whole year and should not be this hesitant about questioning a single order from him, but you take a big pause nonetheless. Normally, this wouldn’t be a problem; any other doctor you could confront with ease, but Julian is so, so nice and he always gets your Starbucks order right and never lets you pay him back for it. You don’t want to be a dick to such a sweet person. “I don’t think he’s ready to be discharged. He’s a heavy drinker and his potassium is still low. Plus, he lives alone.”
“His potassium is only one point off, y/n. And the rest of his labs look good. I can’t keep someone for alcoholism.”
Well, the good thing is that you’re not hesitant anymore, just really pissed, because obviously Dr. Mercer’s kindness and understanding doesn’t extend to his less fortunate patients.
“Wow, that’s not okay, Julian.”
His smile fades a little bit, or just turns mean, you can’t really tell which, and he sighs. “I’m sorry, I’m very busy. If this conversation is about morals, I’m afraid I don’t have time for it.”
“It’s not about morals.” You try to lasso your anger, but it seeps into the tone of your voice like a hiss. “I’m concerned about patient safety, and his potassium is just going to drop further if we send him back to drink himself to death. And then he’ll have a heart attack.”
“I treat current conditions. I can’t focus on what-ifs.” He tries to put his hand atop yours, but you pull back.
All doctors are the same? What a shocker. You haven’t met even one who didn’t eventually do this shit, and Julian is no different despite your burgeoning hope that he was.
“I’m not giving him that paperwork,” you say. “I’m not discharging him.”
“What do you mean?”
“I’m not doing it.”
“We need to free up the bed for patients who need it.”
“Do it yourself, then.”
His smile falls the whole way down, and you can’t find it in your bleeding heart to care.
You need to get away from him before you say something that will make him want to get you your usual coffee order and then spit in it, but he grabs your forearm gently before you can.
“Y/n-“
“I told you I’m not discharging him.” He lets you pull back. “And I really don’t have time for this.”
***
You should just let it go, but by the time your break comes around, you are still quietly seething over Dr. Mercer’s idiotic order, and the way he fucking talked to you.
You’ve come a long way, but sometimes when a man talks down to you with that certain tone, you still see red.
Maybe it’s a character flaw, but after the hell you’ve lived through, you can’t help but feel entitled to some righteous feminine rage.
You’re alone in the little side nook with its hard plastic chairs that almost hurt you more than standing. But your feet need a break, so while you massage your foot your tailbone suffers.
You need a massage. A real, full-body rub-down–why is it, that the thought calls up the memory of a certain large, strong, calloused pair of hands that may or may not belong to a certain inappropriate officer of the law?
It’s possible you are staring into space, fantasizing about burning dark eyes unabashedly boring into yours as those mitts for hands–
A soft knock on the doorjamb pulls you back to the present–and the last person you want to see is taking up the whole doorway. It takes every iota of self-control you have left not to snarl, What do you want?
“Doctor?” You even put extra sugar into your tone, which he seems to sense is utterly manufactured judging by his awkward smile.
“Y/n.”
You wait silently, allowing the lift of one eyebrow that you fear conveys all your disdain. “I believe I owe you an apology.”
You blink, certain you misheard.
“I’m sorry?”
“You were right. The patient was not ready for discharge.”
You blink again. Has hell warmed over? “I know,” you finally answer, which for some reason makes him smile. He takes the liberty to cross the room to sit down next to you, with only one plastic chair between you.
“It took some courage to stand up to me. Well done.”
Dr. Julian Mercer is TV doctor hot–tall, broad shouldered, handsome. His thin scrubs do very little to conceal his lithe, athletic body underneath, and everyone in the hospital loves to titter about him as he breezes by. You’re not exactly immune to his charms, but failing to advocate for a patient for fear of displeasing him wouldn’t have even occurred to you.
“I just want what's best for my patients.” That, at least, is the truth.
The good doctor nods, his longish hair swinging into his eyes. Maybe you do feel the slightest urge to brush it away.
“Truly commendable, y/n.” Then he points at your foot, and makes a come hither gesture with his fingers.
You don't understand what he wants, and your face shows it.
“Is your foot hurting you?”
Perpetually, is the answer, but you just nod dumbly.
“Give it here.”
“Why?”
His smile is gentle as spring rain. “I’m offering you an apology foot rub.”
“How wildly inappropriate,” you comment while extending your foot. You’ve eyed Dr. Julian’s hands before. They may be soft, but they are big, so maybe he could be of some use to you.
He laughs at that; a short huff of laughter that possibly softens you a little towards him. And once your foot is in his hands–ok, that feels good, maybe better than good, and maybe Dr. Julian does know something about making the human body feel better. A small noise escapes you, and you are breaking so many hospital policies right now, but god dammit they work you to the bone here.
He’s even kind enough to do your other foot too, and by the time he’s done with you you’re leaning back in your chair on your hand with your eyes closed. You open one eye with a sigh as he gives the ball of your foot a finishing squeeze.
“Ok. I’m mostly not mad anymore.”
He gives a short guffaw at that. “You were mad?” Like he’s surprised you’ve taken any of this personally.
“Of course I was.”
“Oh.”
Strangely he doesn’t seem offended by this. “You really do care about your patients.”
“Why do you sound so surprised?”
“I'm not surprised. but…”
“But what?”
“It's hard on us as medical professionals, to take every case personally. We do our best, of course, but at the end of the day you have to keep some sliver of your heart back for yourself, or you won’t survive to help anyone tomorrow.”
You raise your eyebrows at that. It never would have even occurred to you not to give your heart and soul to anyone who needed it during your shift.
“I guess we’ll have to agree to disagree on that one.”
You can’t help but notice he still hasn't released your foot, toying with the curve of your big toe through your sock.
“Perhaps we will.”
He is looking at you searchingly, and it’s all you can do not to flinch from that intuitive gaze.
“Thank you, Dr. Mercer.”
He opens his mouth as though to say more, but one of your colleagues walks in, and that’s the end of your little moment.
***
Surprise, surprise, when the next night, Guess Who finds his way onto your examination table.
For fuck’s sake.
“Officer Ludlow. What brings you in tonight?”
You know you sound tired, look like hell, and smell like straight up human waste, but Tom looks extra happy to see you. “You work too much.”
You don’t have the energy to argue, much less with the truth. “Yeah, and you get injured too much.” Great, solid comeback, you really got him there. Stupid, stupid, stupid.
He whistles. “Bad mood. Damn.”
“Just tell me what you’re fucking here for, Tom.” You plop down on the stool next to his bed, chin in your hand.
He tugs his charred pant leg up, and beneath, so fresh it should be sizzling and smoking, is a nasty burn the size of your head.
“How did you manage that?” You wince, leaning down to assess the damage. Luckily, it’s only second degree, shiny and bloody and wet and looking too painful to bear weight on. “How are you walking?”
“Remember the sword?”
“How could I forget?”
“Okay, well this time it was a flamethrower.”
“How are people getting their hands on this shit?”
He shrugs, which makes you laugh for the first time all day. “Alright, I don’t think it’s third degree, but I need the doctor to-“
“Good evening Mr. Ludlow.” Julian has drawn back the curtain and stepped inside your little exam room with that branded, signature smile on his face.
“Hey, Julian-Doctor-can you take a look at this?”
While Julian looks at the burn, you sneak a peek at Tom, and see some type of look on his face-not confusion, not concern, more analyzing. Assessing. Thinking.
“This your doctor boyfriend you were telling me about?”
You can almost hear the sizzle of heat making its way up your neck to your cheeks. This fucking bastard. Embarassing you at work, trying to catch you out in your lie. He levels that penetrating gaze with you, just the tiniest tick at the corner of his mouth betraying his amusement.
Yet he is not the only perceptive man in the room. Julian looks between the two of you, and you swear he reads the situation as clearly as a book. Without losing a beat, god bless, he goes into Full Authoritative Doctor Mode. “I am, not that my relationship with Miss y/n is any of your concern.”
Either of them could have pushed you over with a feather–you can hardly believe Julian is playing along.
“Sorry, doc. I’m a detective. Just curious by nature.” Ludlow levels Julian with a stony look, conveying that he didn’t believe the doctor–or he really didn’t like what he’d said.
“I’m sure you are,” answers Julian, throwing you a knowing look that only makes the fire under your collar ten times worse. “Can you go check on Mrs. Andersen in room 10, y/n? I can handle Officer Ludlow.”
Somehow, you kind of doubt that, and you find you’re reluctant to leave them alone in the room together. But, you’ve already been insubordinate once this week. They’re grown men. What’s the worst that could happen?
Yet as you’re making your exit, you can’t help but feel like you’ve just left Dr. Mercer at the mercy of a wolf.
You are glad you went to check on Mrs. Andersen, because she needed some warm assurance, on top of a slight adjustment of her IV. When you walk back out into the hall, headed for the nurses station, it’s almost as though the atmosphere has changed. No one else seems to sense it, but somehow you just know something is off. With dread in your heart you scurry back to where you’d left Ludlow and Mercer, bursting through the curtains.
They are standing toe to toe, nose to nose. It’s made a little more ridiculous by the bulky dressing on Tom’s calf, but you still don’t doubt his ability to wipe the floor with Dr. Julian. Which is a ridiculous fucking thing for you to have to worry about, but here you are.
You don’t raise your voice, not wanting to draw attention, but you do not hesitate to put yourself between them. You try not to notice how solid Tom’s chest is beneath your hand, compared to Julian’s. “That is enough.” You direct this at Tom, of course, because you have zero doubt as to who started it.
“Why are you yelling at me?” Tom complains childishly.
“Because I’m not stupid.”
“I know you’re not stupid. But this asshole seems to think he owns you.”
You do lift an eyebrow at that, but it’s so not the issue at hand. “Do you want to be escorted out by security?”
“I think I’m done here anyway.” Ludlow picks up his jacket, glaring at Julian. “Thanks for the dressing, Doc.” His tone, however, more conveys Eat shit and die. Then he looks at you, and those burning dark eyes send an uneasy thrill to your toes–by way of your treacherous pussy, who does not seem to understand that men like Tom Ludlow are very bad for you. She has gotten you into so much trouble before, and by god you are not letting her run the show this time.
“Be seeing you, sweetheart.”
“Not on these hospital grounds, you’re not,” asserts Dr. Julian, and Tom, damn him, just laughs.
There is just something about that man’s presence that leaves behind traces of him in a room, long after he has gone. You just stand there, maybe rather stupidly, struggling to process what just happened. What is it about you, that attracts these cocky assholes that just can’t take no for an answer?
“Are you alright?” asks Julian, and you actually believe that he cares about you, concern written in his achingly handsome features, his kind hand on your shoulder.
“Yeah, sure. Sorry about him.”
He gives you a gently amused look. “You are not responsible for that man’s bad behavior.
And you won’t be treating him anymore.”
You would argue, assert yourself, do that thing where you’re strong and independent and take care of the own sore skin on your back, but you really don’t have the energy right now, and Julian-fuck him-he’s right, you should not be Ludlow’s nurse anymore for his sake and yours.
You pinch the bridge of your nose and close your eyes, wishing it was the end of your shift. “Alright.”
At least the rest of the night goes by fairly quickly, although that means you’re busy enough not to have another break, however, Julian-apologetic Julian, who brings you a turkey sandwich and makes you sit down and eat it and drink at least half a bottle of water-is making things a little better.
The doctors don’t really get into the shit like you and your fellow nurses, although they are just as busy, and the fact that he takes time to be concerned about you after the emotional beginning of your shift really touches you. He knows he fucked up the other day, and he’s in full sweet cinnamon roll mode to try and rectify it. That’s why you can’t-and, if you’re being honest-don’t want to tell him no when he catches you in the parking lot before you get into your car.
“Here, you left your stethoscope.” He loops it around your neck, then opens your driver’s door for you.
“Julian, it really is okay.” You reach up to pat his lab coat shoulder in reassurance. “And I’m fine. Tom is just a big bully.” Why do you feel like you’re betraying him by talking shit to Julian in the parking lot?
He looks down at you like he’s made up his mind about something, and grins. “Have coffee with me?”
You blink at him. “Like, right now?”
“No, Saturday morning. Seven AM?” He grabs the spiral notebook and pen from his breast pocket and writes you his number. “Since I’m your boyfriend, I should take you out on a date, don’t you think?”
Well, at least he’s asking nicely instead of being an asshole about it like some people…
You chuckle, tuck the note and your hands into your scrub pockets, and hope the heat isn’t visible on your face. “Guess you’re right.”
You might be playing a dangerous game, here, but hell, there’s a reason you work in the ED of a level one trauma center; you’re a sucker for cheap thrills

Bleeding out.
Pairing: Ed Mercer x fem!Reader
Plot: Ed says something stupid, that's it.
Warning: mentions of someone getting shot, a bit of angst but mainly fluff, comedy, Gordon being Gordon
A/N: I don't see anyone write for them, so I am going to do that!
Tumblr media
“She’s okay.”, Kelly, who is standing a couple of meters away from her ex-husband watches his hectic movements closely:”Isn’t that what matters?” Her eyes follow him, as he walks from one side of the room to the other in what appears to be a circle. “God. Ed! Calm down!”
At that, he rapidly spins around:”Calm do-.”, he lets out:”I was supposed to be the one in there right now, not her! Kelly, that weapon was pointed straight at me.” Gordon wants to add something but is quickly cut off when the doors to one of the treatment rooms opens up. He only nods his head towards its direction and Ed instantly storms past the nurses into the room.
“Were you completely out of your mind?!”, Ed doesn’t ask her. It sounds more like an accusation. His nostrils are flaring while he clenches his fist. Y/N who is putting on her shoes only rolls her eyes at her captain’s behavior. But once they land on Kelly and Gordon a smile emerges on her lips.
"Are you even listening to me?!"
“Yeah, believe it or not… I am.” He tilts his head. “But I am not going to apologize for what I did.”, Y/N shakes her head and attempts to stand up from the table. But when the pain in her leg strikes through her body like a bolt of lightning she lets out a thick groan. Before her body collapses Ed moves forward and grabs her by the arms:”Take it easy.”, he mumbles. He really wants to sound tough and intimidating, but the concern is lying thickly on top of his words:”Let’s just get you out of here, okay?”
“Wait, wait, wait. My jacket.”
“Malloy!”, Ed declares loudly before walking his friend towards the exit. Gordon blinks and glances at Kelly:”Seri- Seriously? What am I? A servant?” “Just take it!”, Kelly simply answers, before handing him the blue fabric:”Do it for her.” The blonde woman watches how he whines before ultimately snatching it out of her hands. “Yeah, yeah.”
---
“So…do you think that he will tell her?” Kelly asks, while she sits down on the opposite side of the Helmsman.
“What are you talking about?”, Alara, who is taking a sip of her drink furrows her forehead. Gordon leans back in his chair:”That Ed is madly in love with Y/N?”, he scoffs:”I highly doubt it. His pride won’t allow it.” At the sound of two familiar voices approaching he turns his head to the left:”Would you look at that.”
Y/N who is walking towards the table smiles widely once her eyes fall on the jacket:" Oh my! Thank you so much, Gordon." She instantly puts it back on before turning to Ed, who has sat down next to Alara. He is aimlessly poking around his food with a fork. "How do you feel?", Kelly asks, giving her friend a compassionate smile. Y/N's gaze remains on the captain for a few seconds longer before she looks to the blonde woman:" No, yeah. I'm good."
"Yeah, right.", Ed scoffs, and brings his fork up to his mouth. Y/N rolls her eyes. "The captain is right, Y/N. You should get some rest, and try not to get shot again. You're lucky that the bullet only hit your leg. Next time, it-." As if Ed got punches into the face he looks at Gordon in pure revulson:" Next time? No, no, no. There isn't going to be a next time." He turns to stare at Y/N:" Promise me, that you are never ever going to jump in front of me or anyone ever again."
The young woman chuckles and brings her cup of coffee up to her lips:" Yeah, right." Her voice is dry. However when she makes eye contact with Ed again she blinks in surprise:" Oh, you were serious about that."
"Of course I am serious, promise me." "No, I am not going to promise you that!" Kelly and Gordon exchange a quick look. "I am not going to have this conversation again!", Y/N shakes her head before getting up from her spot at the table. "Are you serious?!", Ed's voice gets more high-pitched with each passing second, and he clears his throat when he realizes how almost everyone around them is watching.
"You could have died! Don't you get that?!", he asks her as he follows Y/N down the corridor. For the last weeks, he has done nothing but that: follow Y/N around the ship and (unsuccessfully) ask her over and over again to promise him to not put herself in harm's way again.
Isaac and John both turn around at the sound of them. "No, I won't!", Y/N responds, annoyance clear in her voice:" Now, please stop asking me that!" "Promise me, and I am off your back!"
"I can feel a certain tension.", Isaac states, observing the bickering couple. "Y/N got shot because she jumped in front of the captain and now he attempts to make her pledge to him, that she won't do that again.", he clarifies, and Isaac nods. "I mean, you couldn't do that either." "What was that?", Ed crosses his arms: "Huh?"
Y/N sits down on her chair and begins typing something down:" So you're telling me, that if I was being shot you could just watch that without wanting to interfere?" A chuckle leaves her lips, almost as if she knows his response. Ed rolls his eyes:" There are a million ways to prevent that from happening without jumping in front of a weapon!"
The young woman swirls around in her chair:" Okay, imagine this: it's you, me, and a krill with a blaster. There is no way you can save me without sacrificing yourself. You tell me, that you could stop yourself from-." "Of course, I could!"
Y/N stares at him, while her confident smile fades away: "W-What?" She closes her mouth and swallows thickly, before quickly standing back up again. "No, wait. I-.", but before any actual apology can leave his lips, Y/N has already walked out of the room.
---
"You did what?", Kelly almost chokes on her drink. "I didn't mean it.", he says, while rubbing the bridge of his nose:" Obviously." Gordon, who puts down his knife shakes his head:" Tell that to her, not us. She's the one who will be left behind to bleed out, should you two get attacked by a member of the Krill."
"I never said anything about letting anyone bleed out, Gordon.", Ed stares at him in irritation:" Gordon, I-." "But he's right.", Kelly cuts him off, managing to draw Ed's attention towards herself. He sighs:" I want to, but she won't talk to me."
---
"Y/N, please." Gordon and John both turn around. Kelly who is standing near Claire and Isaac quickly makes her way over to join her two friends at the bar. Y/N's leg seems to be entirely healed and the captain struggles to keep up with her:" I am so sorry, but you know I didn't mean what I said." "Oh really?", she unexpectedly stops walking and turns around, which makes Ed nearly bump into her:" Because you answered super fast."
Ed opens his mouth to respond, but when no words leave his lips he closes it again. He looks defeated. Y/N clenches her jaw. However, when she notices how the others are watching them from the others side of the room she walks over to them. A shiver runs down Gordon's spine at the sight of her forced smile. "Well that's creepy.", John simply whispers. "How are you, guys.", Y/N states and sits down next to him:" My friends. Who actually care about me."
Ed runs a hand down his face:" I am just trying to protect you!" "Yeah, right.", the y/h/ced woman lets out a fake laugh:" I do not need protection, I am not a weak child!" She turns the chair around to fully face him again:" And by the way, saying that you would let me bleed out is not-." "For the record, I am just worried about you, we- wait did you just say 'bleed out' ?", He looks past her towards the other men:" Gordon, did you tell her that? I swear to-."
"You two, will you please stop?!", Clair declares, her voice loud and stern:" This has been going on for two weeks now and it is exhausting for everyone on this ship! Y/N can't you see that Captain Mercer is doing all of this because he is clearly in love with you? And Ed, Y/N jumped in front of you because she is in love with you as well?"
Ed who has his finger still near Y/N's face gradually lowers his hand, while Y/N's jaw drops. She eyes how all her friends leave the bar, and for a few moments, neither of them says anything before Y/N finally looks back at Ed, who clears his throat.
"Are you-." "Are you-." "I mean, yes-." "Yeah, I-."
Y/N raises her hand:" Wait, you go first." Ed sits down next to her:" Listen, I- I care about you, okay? That's why I got scared. If you would die while protecting me, I- I don't know how to survive that." Y/N sighs as her facial features soften. She looks down and takes his hand in hers:" Well, for what it's worth I care about you too." Without waiting for a second longer, Ed pulls her into a kiss. "After everything that has happened, it would be embarrassing now if you didn't."
"I still won't promise you that." "I figured that you would say that.", he says, brushing a strand of hair behind her ear:" Guess, I will have to look out for you a bit more." "Yeah… I guess so."

Deep Denial
Ed Mercer x Female!Reader
“Lay in a course for…”
Captain Ed Mercer could barely pay attention to what Commander Grayson was saying as he gazed at the newly transferred navigator. Lieutenant (Y/N). She was cute, a bright and eager smile was on her face when she first came onboard. He’d never admit it, but from that moment on, she took up a significant portion of his thoughts.
It didn’t help that she seemed to be getting along well with the rest of the bridge crew, Gordon taking a shine to her instantly. Which led to him inviting her to get drinks with a few of them after shift. Which led to the events of the previous night…
After a long and fairly boring day, about half the bridge crew was in the mess having a drink. Gordon, in his infinite wisdom, had insisted on saving Ed a seat, so he had to sit in between his helmsman and his new navigator. He walked in while Gordon was telling some long and highly embarrassing story from their time at Point and he tried not to groan as he sat down.
“Yeah and then Ed totally fell in the pool. It was nuts!” The table chuckled collectively as Ed just shook his head and jerked his thumb towards the new navigator.
“Trying to humiliate me in front of the newbie?”
“Always, man,” the ginger chuckled before launching into another tale. Ed had glanced over to find said newbie eyeing him. She looked flustered at getting caught, burying her face in her glass as he looked back at his friend, the smallest of smiles on his face.
As the night winded down, he offered to walk her to her quarters.
It’s the captain-ly thing to do. I’m just being nice. It’s on the way.
All not quite lies but not total truths as they walked in silence.
“So…how do you like it so far?”
“Oh! Uh, I mean it's only been a couple days…”
“Right, duh sorry.” He kicked himself a little.
“Everyone has been really nice so far, if that’s any indication,” she offered.
“Sounds about right. Can’t be hard to be nice to someone so-” His brain finally stopped his tipsy train of thought dead in its tracks, but (Y/N) had looked at him expectantly as they stopped in front of her door.
“Well uh, this is you. See you tomorrow, Lieutenant,” he had quickly, and loudly, announced before high-tailing it out of there.
“Ed?”
“Hm?” He pulls himself out of his thoughts with a little start, looking over at Kelly and her quirked eyebrow.
“Is that alright with you?”
“Yeah, definitely.” He nods but has no idea what she asked him. Kelly relaxes back into her seat so it must’ve been the right answer and Ed attempts to shake off his wandering thoughts for the remainder of the day.
Later that day Ed is in the mess, sharing a beer with the empty chair across from him as he looks over daily reports. His attention is quickly stolen by a flash of orange moving near him. As he glances behind him, he can see his new navigator taking a seat at the table over with some other lieutenant dressed in green. He quickly looks back at his work, not wanting to seem weird, but a small, quiet part of him wishes he could look at her for longer.
“How are you liking it here so far?” The other woman asks.
“I mean, it's okay,” she answers hesitantly. “I’m just worried I’m not gonna find my fit here, Lux.” He can hear the other woman, presumably called Lux, hum in response. He knows he definitely shouldn’t be eavesdropping but he can’t help being a little nosey.
“What do you think of the bridge at least?’
There’s a short pause as she seems to think over her answer.
“I like everyone, I think. Lieutenant Malloy is pretty funny.”
“Sounds like you’re interested. He’s cute!”
“No, no, no. Not like that,” she chuckles awkwardly.
“Good. I’ve already called dibs,” Lux chuckles, and Ed can almost feel (Y/N)’s eyeroll.
“Have at it. No, I think I would rather wait for Ed.”
Said captain chokes on his beer as the two women look over at him.
“Are you alright, sir?” The navigator gives him a look of concern that he attempts to wave off.
“I’m fine,” he insists. Both women eye him warily before turning back to their conversation.
“Yeah, I would rather wait instead. Someone can approach me, you know?”
Ed flushes a bright red as he curses himself softly. He had completely misheard her and now he felt rather foolish. He quickly gathers his things, deciding it’s probably for the best that he avoids Lieutenant (Y/N) for the time being as he hastily exits the mess, much to the confusion of the two women.
--
Unfortunately for Ed, avoiding social interaction is easier said than done. Gordon’s birthday rolls around only a week later and the captain finds himself heading to his ginger friend’s quarters. As he heads in, he’s instantly amused at seeing Lux chatting up the birthday boy as the bridge crew and a few people from engineering mill about. He scans the room as he moves to drop his present on the table, spotting (Y/N) speaking with Talla. He’s content to look for a moment before moving to get a drink.
“Oh, good idea,” he can hear Gordon say to the woman before addressing the whole group. “Truth or dare,” he calls. Most everybody moves towards the couches and Ed makes his way over to sit on the floor by the coffee table. A few timid rounds pass as he works his way through a couple beers before John dares Gordon to kiss someone. The ginger man grins before grabbing Lux’s face and planting a kiss on her lips. There’s a couple little oohs before he pulls away, and the woman’s flushed face only makes his grin wider. Ed rolls his eyes, finishing off a beer as his friend points at him.
“Truth or dare, Ed?”
He does his best not to groan, tipsiness already taking over his body.
“Uh, truth?”
“Lame!” John heckles as Gordon waves him off.
“Okay uh… when did you have your first kiss?” He grins at Lux who just playfully rolls her eyes.
Ed pauses for a good few moments, trying to really answer the question.
“I was twenty I think? Which I know is pretty late, but I thought it should be like special so I was saving it. I don’t think that anymore. In fact, I keep kissing people when I should be saving them for something special. Not like that’s happened anytime recently… I don’t know.”
He flushes a deep red when he realizes he’d started rambling, sharing way more than was asked or that anyone would be comfortable with. He wants to just about die when he looks up and locks eyes with (Y/N), looking at him with concern. He chuckles awkwardly as his eyes dart to literally anyone else and land on Bortus. “Truth or dare, man.”
“Dare. It is the only option.”
“I uh… dare you to eat that,” he points at one of Gordon’s couch pillows, getting up to slip away during the chaos as the birthday boy tries to wrestle the pillow out of the Moclan’s hands.
--
After the incredibly awkward exit from the night before, Ed is doing his best to avoid as many party goers as he can. He’s doing well, staying at home for most of the day, until Kelly calls him to pick up some reports with no time to drop them off. He groans but gets into some casual clothes to go to his XO’s office. It’s a quick trip, and he’s almost home free when he spots a couch in the middle of the corridor. He pauses, looking around for an owner before Lieutenant (Y/N) pops out of her nearby quarters.
“Oh, captain!” She stands at attention as he waves her to relax.
“Making the place a home?”
She chuckles awkwardly, nodding.
“I’m trying, but clearly it’s not going well…”
He mulls over his next words very carefully.
“Let me help you,” he offers with a smile.
“You don’t have to! I wouldn’t want you to waste your free day!”
“I’ve moved a few couches in my day,” he tries to joke before calling over a few crewmen to help him lift her sofa and move it into her living room area. Once it's in the perfect spot and the other crewmen have left, Ed goes to take his leave.
“Thank you again, captain.”
“Really, it's no trouble, Lieutenant,” he assures with a smile. “What was I gonna do? Let a pretty girl like you move it all by herself?”
The heat rises to each of their faces simultaneously as the silence between them thickens.
“I should uh,” he gestures back to the door.
“Yeah, I really need to uh,” she gestures back into her quarters.
Ed gives her a tight-lipped look and nods as he skedaddles his way home, beyond embarrassed.
--
A few days later and Ed is still doing his best to avoid looking at (Y/N) whenever he can. But it’s even more noticeable on the bridge and Kelly can’t help but mention it to someone else as she heads towards the shuttle bay with Gordon.
“Hey.”
“Yeah?” The ginger looks over at her questioningly.
“Ed seem weird with the new girl?”
“Oh thank god, let’s talk about it.”
Kelly chuckles as they get into the elevator.
“Yeah, he’s been really weird this whole week. I think he likes her.”
“No, he definitely does,” Gordon nods as the doors open and they walk into the bay.
“Maybe… No, I don’t want to overstep,” Kelly waves a dismissive hand.
“I do. Are we gonna play matchmaker, Commander?”
“If you’re down, I’m down, Lieutenant.”
And as the shuttle heads towards the planet, Kelly and Gordon come up with a perfect plan.
Ed sighs as Gordon finishes telling him about the night’s plans.
“I don’t really feel up to a party dude…”
“Come on, Mercer. It’ll be fun, aaaand a great way to welcome (Y/N) to the Bridge Babes.” The brunette gives his ginger friend a look at the dorky nickname before shrugging.
“Fine. But I’m not gonna stay very late, I’m tired.”
“Sick! You won’t regret it. Kelly and I have everything all planned out…”
Ed gives Gordon a suspicious look.
“You said that weird.”
“No I didn’t,” the red-head denies instantly, and Ed just rolls his eyes.
“Whatever, man. I’ll see you at 1900.”
Far too soon for Ed’s liking the appointed hour rolls around and he forces himself to head to the simulator. When the doors open, he can see the bridge crew milling about a small, 21st century bar. As he walks in, he scans the room until his eyes land on (Y/N). She’s far too busy talking to Kelly to notice his gaze and he quickly turns to order a beer from the bar.
“Hey glad you made it!” Gordon quickly wraps an arm around his best friend’s shoulders as he gives him his best smile.
“I said I would come.”
“Yeaaaah but I’m still glad you’re here.”
“Yeah, me too.” He glances back at the two women again, seeing them move to sit at a table.
“Wanna go sit?” Gordon tries his best to be casual as he turns to get himself another beer.
“Oh, uh, nah. I’d rather sit up here. Can get drinks faster,” he jokes as Gordon chuckles.
“Sure, man. Sure.”
A few downed beers later, Ed is a bit more malleable and Gordon migrates them over to the table. As they take a seat, a tipsy Captain sends his navigator a warm smile.
“Hey Ed. How are you?” Kelly’s voice pulls his gaze and he nods.
“I’m good. How are you two?”
“I’m fine. Gordon and I are gonna get more drinks. Want anything?”
The brunette shakes his head as the Commander stands and looks to (Y/N). She shakes her head as well and the other two head for the bar.
“So, I asked how you were…”
“Oh! Oh, um… I’m okay, captain. Thank you.”
“Ed is fine when we’re off duty.” “Alright, Ed.” She hums, trying it out as he smiles at her.
“Have you decided if you like it here yet?”
She shrugs a little.
“I think so,” she takes a sip as Ed moves to follow suit.
“You think or you know?”
She gives him a confused look.
“Capt- Ed… Why are you so worried about what I think of the Orville?”
He blinks for a minute, trying to formulate a good answer.
“I just… want you to feel welcome,” he says honestly. He glances over at her as she gives him a little smile. He can’t help but return it with that signature grin of his.
Their conversation flows easily after this, Ed asking her questions about herself and retelling some of the crew’s best adventures. As they gab and polish off their drinks, Ed offers to get them another round. But as he turns to stand and moves to the bar, he notices the rest of the bridge crew is gone.
“Uh…I think we got ditched.”
(Y/N) looks over and tilts her head.
“Oh…I guess we did.”
Ed moves to get them drinks anyway before returning to the table to find the woman chuckling.
“What’s so funny?” He slides the drink over to her.
“I just am surprised I guess,” she says as she reaches for her glass.
“Surprised about what?”
“About you.”
He looks a little worried and she waves his anxiety away.
“Honestly, up until now, I thought you just weren’t able to talk to me. Maybe you didn’t like me, I don’t know,” she admits.
Ed brow furrows as he tries to think clearly about the past few days.
“No… No, (Y/N), I like you a lot.”
She gives him a smile as she sets her glass back down.
“I like you too, Ed.”
He takes a gulp of his beer and, feeling brave, speaks again.
“No, I like really like you. A lot.”
Her face definitely heats up as she smiles into her glass.
“Yeah?”
“Absolutely, yeah,” he hiccups.
The lieutenant looks around the bar before downing her drink and standing.
“Did you wanna get out of here?”
Ed blinks up at her for a moment then stands, beer long forgotten.
“Yeah. May I?” He holds out a hand to her and she takes it. Ed gives her that damn smile of his as he leads her out of the sim and into the corridor.
They stroll through the ship until they reach her quarters and she releases him. He preps himself to bid her a goodnight once her door is open, but instead she pulls him inside.
“Stay?”
Ed makes a skeptical face.
“I don’t know if that’s a good idea…”
She scoffs out a chuckle.
“I asked if you would stay, not if you would have sex with me,” she teases drunkenly as he chuckles.
“...okay sure, I’ll stay.”
She takes his hand and leads him to her bedroom. She disappears into the bathroom to change as Ed takes off his shoes and lays down. When she comes back out, she turns the lights off and slips under the covers beside him.
“Hey, Ed?”
“Yeah, (Y/N)?”
“I really like you, too.”
He smiles at her, tucking some hair behind her ear before getting comfy and falling asleep.
The next morning, Ed groans as he rubs his eyes. When he finally opens them, he sees a painkiller and water on an unfamiliar nightstand. He takes it quickly before rolling over to see (Y/N) peeking at him.
“Hi,” she says softly as his face pales.
“Did we…?”
“No, no…”
“Oh good.”
They lay in silence for about a minute as they each think about what to say.
“I should go…” He says as he sits up, (Y/N) quickly sitting up as well.
“Yeah, okay…”
“Last night was fun, from what I remember,” he offers as he gets out of bed.
“Yeah it was.” She follows him out of her room and into the living room while he attempts to tug his shoes on.
“See you on the bridge.”
Before the door can swish open, she grabs his hand to stop him.
“Wait!”
As he turns back to her, (Y/N) gives him a quick peck. Ed is sure he’s a bright red as he looks at her, surprised. Before her anxiety can catch up with her, he leans down to capture her lips for longer.
“Think they fell for it?”
“Are you doubting my sim programming abilities?”
“No, no. It definitely looked like the whole bridge was there. But if they talk to anyone besides us they’ll find out.”
“That’s okay,” the ginger shrugs. “Once they figure it out, they’ll be too into each other to care.”

To be human
This took a while I haven't written In ages but  I love this show and it inspired me so much that chapter 2 is already half way done. Please don't hesitate to point out any mistakes this was not Beta'd.
Enjoy E x
Summary: When Isaac finds a way to be human he. Claire and the rest of the crew have to deal with everything that comes with that.
Fandom: The Orville / The Orville new horizons
Relationships: Isaac/Claire
Isaac was fascinated by the planet they had discovered a few days ago in a supposedly empty part of space. The people, while technically advanced, had not yet made the jump to long range space travel. However the planet designated Mino did have multiple satellites around it sending out signals to try and make contact, therefore the Union had given them permission to make their presence known.
But the most interesting thing about this humanoid race was their use of genetically grown bodies. The bodies themselves did not age, were more durable and could be fully customized to the users preference. From what Isaac could observe the users switched their consciousness between their genetically grown bodies and their real bodies as needed. They were popular amongst the beings in dangerous professions like law enforcement. But as far as he could tell it was more about vanity.
"Captain Mercer" Mino's elected representative greeted the captain as he walked into the large round conference room followed by his two advisors. Isaac, the Captain and Lieutenants Bortus and Kiali were attending the meeting.
"Representative Cam, good to see you again" the Captain said.
Cam smiled and gestured for them to sit.
"Captain, you'll be pleased to know that Mino's Council has come to a decision and decided that they would like to join your Union" he announced proudly.
"Excellent welcome to family" the captain grinned "As discussed we'd like to leave two union officers behind to teach you about the union and also study your planet".
"Of course they're more than welcome, we are very eager to learn about your people and study your technology as well" Cam agreed.
"Speaking of technology we'd love the opportunity before we leave to learn more about your genetically grown bodies. We outlawed cloning years ago for moral and ethical reasons but this seems like something new entirely" Ed said hopefully.
"Yes the surrogate program is our proudest achievement, we will be happy to share our technology in return"
"Thank you Representative Cam with your permission I'd leave our science officer Isaac to take a look at the surrogates and  lieutenant Kiali will escort your researchers onto the ship to observe our labs".
"Of course, Isaac if you follow Yana" Cam gestured to one of his advisors "She will show you our lab".
"Thank you Representative Cam" Isaac nodded before following Yana out of the room.
**********************
The lab was very impressive, the people of Mino had somehow managed to develop a way to grow organic bodies without using original DNA.
"These bodies behave like any other human body?" Isaac asked the lab technician, a young man with extremely bright blue eyes named Kin.
"Yes absolutely in fact I'm using one right now" he smiled, spreading his arms and turning slowly. Isaac looked him up and down carefully, he could detect no signs that he was not scanning a normal human body except for the brain which showed some electrical components which he now understood were essential for the transfer of consciousness.
"And they do not age?" He inquired
"No we design them to reach the users desired age then stop" Kin smiled checking somes screens next to the current growing body suspended in fluid. An idea began forming in Isaacs mind
"How long does the process take?" He asked.
"Depending on the desired age of the body, about a week," Kin said, going on to explain about accelerated growth as Isaac solidified his idea.
******************
He spent the rest of the afternoon re-examining Dr Villka and Timmis's research. By the time it came to have dinner with Claire he had the necessary data and knowledge to complete his idea. However he had come to learn that when you are in a couple major life decisions must be discussed.
He got to the simulator early and changed into his simulated appearance while he waited for his wife to arrive. A few moments later the simulator doors opened and Claire strode in looking flustered
"Sorry I'm late it's been a hectic day I've got two nurses off sick and Lamar got himself electrocuted by spilling soda over his console"
"It is understandable you are late given your extra workload, shall we sit?" He asked pulling out one of the chairs from the empty table beside them. He had selected a simulation of an open air restaurant on the beach from a country called Greece of earth. Claire smiled and took her seat placing her napkin in her lap as Isaac sat down himself. The waiter came over and poured wine before leaving them some menus.
"How was your day…dear?" Isaac asked, employing some of the terms of endearment he had learned from his study of human relationship. Claire's lips twitched up into an amused smile
"Well apart from being busy it wasn't too bad I got a request from Union Central to write a paper on Xelayan bone density. How about you, how was your day dear" she teased. Teasing as he had learned was a good humoured exchange between human couples.
"I attended the meeting on Mino with the Captain and Lieutenants Bortus and Kiali, then I studied the planet's surrogate program. After that I returned to the ship to do more research and fulfil my regular duties''.
"The Mino's surrogates program is fascinating," she agreed. She had been on the first landing party to Mino and had examined both the active and inactive surrogates. Isaac waited until after Claire had eaten her main meal before he brought up his idea. He found humans functioned better and were less emotional once they had eaten.
"I have something to discuss with you" He began. Claire paused looking up from the dessert menu giving him a curious look
"Okay, what's up?"
"I know you were disappointed when I was unable to keep my emotions and you declined my offer to erase my memory as you wanted to keep as you put it my soul"
"Yes…" she replied seemingly concerned with where the conversation was going. He knew that the choice she had to make still caused her some sadness.
"After studying the surrogate process on Mino and re-examining Dr Villka and Timmis's research I have concluded that my consciousness could be transferred into a surrogate body so that I could function as a human being both physically and emotionally" He explained. Claire looked stunned and was unable to speak for several moments, so Isaac decided to continue
"I know communication, especially about big decisions, is important for relationships. Therefore I wanted to discuss this with you before I go ahead with the procedure". Claire raised her eyebrows at his statement and found her voice again
"It sounds like you have already made up your mind. Isaac I can't ask you to do this for me again" she took his hand in hers and squeezed gently.
"As wonderful as those few minutes were when you had your emotions I felt tremendous guilt over asking you to do that for me"
"You are not asking me to do anything therefore your argument is invalid" he squeezed her hand back something he had noted that she always seemed to enjoy.
"As with our wedding I have reasoned that this procedure will improve the productivity and stability of our relationship. It would also allow me to study and observe the full human experience. However I will not go through with the procedure if you oppose it". She considered his words for a moment
"But Isaac this is not like before you wouldn't just have human emotions you'd experience the physical side as well. Discomfort, sickness, pain"
"Yes as well as comfort, warmth and pleasure" he retorted watching her lips curl in amusement as he said pleasure.
"I don't know what to say" she sighed
"Preferably yes"
"Isaac I'm glad you wanted to discuss this with me and value my opinion, but ultimately this is your decision. If this is something you really want no matter my decision it is down to you and how you feel"
"I do not feel….yet" he said tilting his head at her. She laughed at that
"Okay good point, can I have some time to think about this?"
"Of course, now shall we resume the usual pleasantries of our date, perhaps you'd like to order dessert?" He suggested.
"Yes that sounds like a good idea" she agreed, picking back up the menu.
***************
It was a few days later when Claire gave him her answer. They were on their way back to Mino to escort the Representatives to Union Central after a short supply run. Isaac had already told the Captain of his plans and he had gotten them approved by Representative Cam, provided he chose to go forward. They had been very excited at the thought of one of their surrogates being used by a Union officer.
He was sitting on the couch in his and Claire's quarters, which they had moved into after they married. It was slightly larger than her previous quarters with a small room for Isaac when he needed to run diagnostics or recharge. Claire had put on some old earth show about roommates when she suddenly paused the show and turned to him.
"Was that episode not to your liking? If you are bored we could go to the simulator" he questioned.
"No its fine I just wanted to talk to you about the surrogate issue"
"Have you made your decision?"
"I have" she took his hand, he noted that she does this a lot as if she is trying to comfort him.
"Isaac, if you truly want to do this, I will support you completely. But I need to make sure your not just doing this for me"
"I do want to go through with the procedure not just to help progress our relationship but also to learn more about the human experience".
"Okay well we should talk to the Captain tomorrow and once we get back to Mino and pick up the Representatives I will start work with Technician Kin to ensure everything is done safely"
"Very well I shall start my own preparations after we speak to the Captain".
"Do you really think it's going to work?" She asked.
"In theory yes"
"I can't believe this is actually going to happen," she said, eyes shining.
"Indeed" she leant forward and kissed him where his mouth would be another thing she does from time to time. He wonders what it will feel like with his surrogate body.
*********
After their discussion the process started quite quickly. Technician Kin had stayed on board as a temporary crew member after the Union Central meeting but was quickly expressing interest in going to the academy. He had been allowed to set up a small lab on the Orville, and Isaac had shown him his simulated form as a guide for his new surrogate body. He and Kin began work straight away with Isaac focusing on using Dr Vilkas research to make sure he would be able to feel emotion as well as physical sensations. Claire did a full med scan on the growing body everyday to make sure everything was forming correctly and healthily.
A week later they were staring at a fully formed body that looked exactly like his simulated form.
"It's incredible," Claire said, walking slowly around the tube.
"Indeed" Isaac agreed, he turned to Kin "We should start the procedure"
"Wait" Claire interrupted "Maybe we should run a few more tests first".
"All the tests have been run" Isaac replied
"It is a perfect surrogate Doctor" Kin reassured. Claire still looked unsure but nodded
"Okay let's get the body to sickbay, I'd like to complete the procedure there just in case the body has any complications”.
They laid the body out on one of the exam tables, while Isaac laid on the table next to it. Claire finished attaching a monitor to the body while Kin set up the transfer device. Claire turned to face him
"Okay we're all set, you'll be shut down for a few minutes before you wake up in the surrogate body" she explained .
"Should be no more than five minutes" Kin reassured
"Are your ready" Claire asked taking his hand
"Yes please proceed" he responded.
"Okay" she said softly, giving him a gentle kiss before turning and nodding to Kin. The technician began pressing various buttons
"See you soon" Claire whispered.
Then everything went dark….
*********
"Isaac?"
He opened his eyes quickly, shutting them hissing at the bright light that greeted him.
"Lights down to 50%" a voice came from somewhere beside him. He felt someone squeeze his hand
"Try now" the voice said, he slowly opened his eyes again. The light was much dimmer now, he blinked a few times to clear the blurriness from his vision. He was looking up at the med bay ceiling and he could feel…everything.
He felt the smooth material of the examination table beneath him, the warmth of his skin where his arms were pressed against the side of his body and the coldness of the room. The room smelt sterile with a hint of floral perfume. He could hear soft movements and beeping machinery around the room.
Lifting his hand up he slid it over his new face feeling the shapes and lines where it used to be completely smooth. He carried on down his neck and over his chest pausing when he felt a heartbeat. Realizing he'd been instinctively breathing the whole time, he tried to focus on it in and out. When he breathed in his lungs inflated lifting his hand along with his chest then out they deflated and he chest fell. It all felt overwhelming the sights, the smells, the sounds, he felt his breath quicken, becoming more shallow, his chest rising and falling rapidly. Suddenly a face came into view
"Isaac?"
"Claire?" His voice came out in a gasping wheeze. He tried to sit up  but she placed her hand against his chest
"Isaac, just take it easy" Claire said, trying to keep him in place.
"Please I need to sit up" he said feeling breathless
"Okay but carefully" she advised. He moved slowly sitting up and turning so his feet were hanging off the table. His breathing was still coming in pants but he couldn't help it, everything was so overwhelming.
"Isaac breathe" Claire instructed, taking his hand again, a gesture he could now appreciate the comfort of fully.
"I'm having difficulty, is there something wrong with the body?" he questioned, looking at her desperately. She shook her head
"The body is fine,  I think you're just overwhelmed at the moment by everything you're experiencing" she explained. He relaxed a little knowing there was nothing wrong but he still felt like there was no air. Claire placed a gentle hand on his shoulder
"Take a deep breath and hold it for 10 seconds" she instructed softly.  He did as he said letting his lungs fill and holding it, she counted down the seconds for him.
"Now breathe out nice and slow" he let the breath go feeling a little better
"Now do it again" she had him repeat the action a few more times till he calmed down.
"Thank you I feel better" she smiled at him reaching out to cradle his face gently, he leaned into the touch with a contented sigh. He loved her so much, she always made everything better. The rush of emotion overwhelmed him again and he felt tears stinging his eyes. He launched himself forward burying his face in her neck as the tears started to fall, she made a startled noise before recovering and pulling him closer stroking a hand up and down his back. They stayed that way for a few moments.
As they separated Isaac quickly swiped away the tears streaked across his face. He felt embarrassed by his reaction and need to be comforted like a child.
"I'm sorry its just….a lot" he apologized
"No apologies necessary I can only imagine how disorientating this must be for you". He looked up at her with a smile
"I love you" her face lit up with a smile that made him feel warm inside.
"I love you too" she replied, leaning down to kiss him gently. Kissing her in this body felt amazing, her soft lips pressed against his, the way she sucked his bottom lip slightly. He felt warmth spread throughout his new body. She pulled away chuckling as he tried to chase her lips, she humored him with a few more kisses before placing a hand gently against his chest.
"Okay we'll have plenty of time for that later" she promised. He felt desperate to lay with her to hold her, to kiss her more to have them sleep in each other's arms.
"Can we go back to our quarters?" he asked
"Soon I just need to get Kin back in here to check everything over just to be sure" she said moving towards the door. As she moved away Isaac realized how cold it was in the room and realized he was only wearing a pair of briefs they had put the body in for the sake of modesty.
"Wait" he said, suddenly feeling very self conscious.
"Could I have some clothes first?" he asked, wrapping his arms around himself. Claire paused turning back to him
"Of course I had some put in my office for when you woke up" She disappeared into the small room before returning with a small neatly folded pile of clothes. He pushed himself off the table onto his slightly shaking legs to get dressed. He felt much better in the soft gray trousers and the long sleeved white top she had chosen.
"Okay I'm ready"
***********
Once Kin had finished his tests and determined that the procedure had gone to plan, Isaac found himself feeling restless and eager to leave sickbay. Claire took him by the hand and led him back to their quarters. As soon as they were through the door Ty rushed towards them
"Isaac" he cried excitedly, throwing his arms around Isaacs middle. He hugged the young boy back smiling as Ty grinned up at him, Marcus appeared beside them
"This is weird" he commented looking Isaac up and down.
"Indeed" Isaac agreed "It is going to be a big adjustment"
"We'll get through it together," Claire said, squeezing his shoulder. Suddenly his stomach made a strange noise
"I do believe I am hungry" he grinned. Claire laughed
"Well okay it is dinner time, what would you like to try first?" She asked. He thought about it for a moment
"I don't know" he looked at Ty
"What is your favourite food Ty?"
"Mac and cheese" he replied, smiling from ear to ear.
"Yesss moms mac and cheese is the best" Marcus agreed.
"Very well I would like to try mac and cheese"
"Okay let me get started, perhaps you should drink something first I'll grab you some water" she said walking over to the synthesizer. He hadn't realized how thirsty he was until he took his first sip; he guzzled it down despite Claire's warning to take it slow. Once he was finished he got another but sipped this one slowly while he sat at the table.
While they waited for dinner Ty showed him a recent school project he had made about different earth landmarks. He complimented Ty on his Eiffel Tower model and offered some improvements to the map. It felt good encouraging him and watching his face light up. He also spoke to Marcus about how school was going for him but he was more reserved, seemingly still feeling weird about Isaac suddenly being human,
“Okay dinner is served” Claire called. They all gathered around the table, the aroma of cheese and pasta filled the air.
“This smells very appetizing” He commented picking up his fork, He took a few moments to spear a few bits of pasta onto his fork not used to using the utensil. As soon as he put the bite into his mouth flavour exploded over his tongue
“This is amazing!” he grinned.
“It's just mac and cheese” Claire laughed as Isaac kept eating, enjoying every mouthful.
“Yeah but mom its your mac and cheese” Marcus commented
“I can see why its your favourite Ty” Isaac said
“I wonder what your favourite food will be” Ty asked
“I can’t wait to find out”.
*********************************
After dinner he and Claire decided to take a walk to the bridge to show the crew his new appearance.
“Wow Isaac you look great although it is certainly going to take some getting used too” The Captain commented
“I didn't think we’d ever see this look outside the simulator” Kelly commented
“It's freaky,'' Lamar said circling him slowly he stopped quickly when Claire shot him an angry look
“But er….. you look good man” he patted Isaac n the shoulder.
“I understand it will take some getting used to” Isaac said
“Maybe now we can finally have a proper prank war when nobody gets their leg cut off” Gordan grinned. Isaac laughed loudly
“I am sorry about that” he apologized still smiling
“Hey it was still one of the funniest pranks i've ever seen” The lieutenant smirked.
“How will you defend yourself in battle now that you are human” Bortus questioned
“That doesn't matter right now” Tala scolded him “I think it's really romantic how you can finally feel the love between you and Claire” she smiled warmly.
“Thank you commander it feels wonderful” he smiled, linking hands with Claire.
They chatted for a few more minutes before he suddenly felt very tired, Claire seemed to sense this and wrapped one arm around him
“Well I think we should be going, it's getting late” She said to the group. Isaac was grateful she’d said something, he was feeling more and more drained as time went on.
“I can return to my normal duties tomorrow” he assured the Captain and first officer. Claire was about to interject when Kelly spoke up
“Isaac you should take some this is a big adjustment for you”
“She’s right” the Captain agreed.
“You need to take some time, in fact I'm ordering you to stay off duty until you have been physically and psychologically cleared by doctor Finn. Do I make myself clear” Ed asked.
“Yes Captain” Isaac agreed
“Come on you lets get some rest” Claire said with a smile taking his hand and leading him back out into the hallway.
When they got back to their quarters  he sat down on the bed while Claire went to check on the boys. She came back a few moments later holding some pyjamas for him. They quickly gt changed and settled into bed
“How was your first day as a human?” she asked, stroking his cheek.
“Short but wonderful” He smiled, grabbing her hand and kissing it lightly, she smiled leaning forward to kiss him but before she could he yawned loudly.
“I’m sorry” he murmured Blinking slowly
“Nothing to be sorry for” she assured giving him a quick kiss on the cheek.
“Get some sleep I love you”
“I love you too” he replied before his eyes slipped shut and he was soundly asleep.

22 answers for a fanfic 2022
1. fandoms you wrote for this year
Star Trek: Discovery
Star Trek: Lower Decks
Star Trek: Picard
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds
Star Trek: The Original Series
Star Trek: Voyager
The Orville
2. favorite fic you wrote this year
I don’t know.
3. favorite fic you read this year
I have so many talented friends who wrote absolutely fantastic fics this year. But the fic I haven’t been able to get out of my mind for all the right reasons is Illusory Reality, written by sixbeforelunch (someone I do not know). The fic is, to me, a canon-consistent fix-it for “The Menagerie,” an episode I have strongly disliked since I was a little girl. Therefore, the story isn’t Pikeuna, it’s Pikeone, and it helps me feel at least somewhat better about an episode that has always upset me.
4. favorite opening line/scene you wrote this year
That would be the prologue to Chrysalis, an AU in which Captain Batel’s attempted arrest of Una Chin-Riley results in Chris and Una both becoming fugitives from the law.
5. favorite ending line/scene you wrote this year
That would be the epilogue to Chrysalis.
6. a trope you wrote this year
I wrote huddling for warmth in Boots That Touch at the Toes, a Pikeuna one-shot set just before Chris takes command of Discovery, and I wrote amnesia in The Haze, also a Pikeuna one-shot, in which Una’s amnesia leads both her and Chris to important realizations.
7. pairings you wrote this year
Looking only at main pairings, not sub-pairings, in order of posting from oldest to newest, I wrote:
Elnor/Hugh | Third of Five (Star Trek: Picard) (x) (x) (x)
Kirsten Clancy/Katrina Cornwell (Star Trek: Picard and Star Trek: Discovery) (x)
Laira Rillak/Charles Vance (Star Trek: Discovery) (x)
Agnes Jurati/Borg Queen (Star Trek: Picard) (x)
Laris/Jean-Luc Picard (Star Trek: Picard) (x) (x)
Kathryn Janeway/Seven of Nine (Star Trek: Picard and Star Trek: Voyager) (x)
Guinan & Cristóbal Rios (Star Trek: Picard) (x)
Raffi Musiker/Seven of Nine (Star Trek: Picard) (x) (x)
Renèe Picard & Tallinn (Star Trek: Picard) (x)
Number One | Una Chin-Riley/Christopher Pike (mostly Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, some Star Trek: Discovery and Star Trek: The Original Series, influences from Short Treks) (x) (x) (x) (x) (x) (x) (x) (x) (x) (x) (x)
Number One | Una Chin-Riley/Jack Ransom (Star Trek: Strange New Worlds and Star Trek: Lower Decks) (x)
Kelly Grayson/Ed Mercer (The Orville) (x)
Kathryn Janeway & Tom Paris (Star Trek: Voyager) (x)
Churrolivia/Jack Ransom (Star Trek: Lower Decks) (x)
Number One | Una Chin-Riley/Seven of Nine (a half-dozen Star Treks, but mostly Star Trek: Strange New Worlds and Star Trek: Picard) (x)
Tom Paris/B’Elanna Torres (Star Trek: Voyager) (x)
plus untagged ficlets that range from Kathryn Janeway/Agnes Jurati (x) to Reginald Barclay & Kathryn Janeway (x) to Kathryn Janeway/Coffee (x) and much, much more (including ones that actually don’t involve Janeway 🙈).
8. a fic regret from this year
Probably still not fixing a lousy fic from years ago. But this year I actually started a doc for the follow-up fix-it that I may never write, so progress?
9. a song that helped you write
I usually have a playlist for any long fic, as well as playlists for ships I write often. But to choose just one song, Beyoncè’s “Love on Top” was “the song” for Chris and Una in The Light Before Dawn.
youtube
10. total number of fics you posted
27
11. total number of words you posted
103,150
12. most popular fic written this year
Not counting holdovers from last year (such as Voyager Writing Game Prompts), my most popular 2022 fic by hits is Lay Down Our Arms, a choose-your-own ending Kathryn Janeway/Seven of Nine story in which Raffi Musiker is an option for one of the happy endings. My most popular 2022 fic by kudos, bookmarks, and comment threads is The Light Before Dawn (Una Chin-Riley/Christopher Pike), which means a lot to me because that fic definitely owns a place in my heart. My most popular 2022 fic by subscriptions is Chrysalis (Una Chin-Riley/Christopher Pike), which makes sense because it also has the most chapters of anything I wrote this year.
13. least popular fic written this year
That’s a little harder to parse (no easy stats graph for lack of popularity), but I think it’s The Song of the Universe is a Heartbeat, a one-shot about Tallinn’s platonic-familial love for both Reneè Picard and Jean-Luc Picard. That’s okay. I didn’t think that one would be popular, but I find Tallinn fascinating and wanted to get into her head a bit.
14. longest completed fic you posted this year
That would be Chrysalis (Una Chin Riley/Christopher Pike) at 20,924 words.
15. shortest completed fic you posted this year
As a stand-alone story, Check, Check, Check (Agnes Jurati/Borg Queen) is the shortest at 172 words. But that’s free verse, not prose, so I’m not sure if it counts. The shortest prose story is Choose to Love (Elnor/Hugh | Third of Five) at 195 words.
16. favorite character to write about this year
Una Chin-Riley. I wrote her with canon consistency. I wrote her in multiple alternative universes (one of which is canon). I wrote her in prison, on the run, diligently doing her duty, hosting planetarium shows in New York City, helping with recipes, and so much more. I wrote her in love (in different stories, not at the same time) with Christopher Pike, with Jack Ransom, and with Seven of Nine. Blorbo doesn’t even begin to cover it.
17. a fic you didn’t expect to write
All of them.
18. most memorable comment/review
Look, if you write me a nice comment, I love you. That’s how it goes. But a few excerpts to share here:
“It takes a special kind of writing to turn a single episode bizarre joke into a sincere, emotional story.” (for the Churrolivia/Jack Ransom fic Gotta Admit, It’s Pretty Sweet).
“GOD this is just... it's... like can we talk about the figurative language for a second, how perfect Una's internal monologue is?” (for the Una Chin-Riley/Christopher Pike fic The Haze — for which I had worked really, really hard on the figurative language of Una’s internal monologue, so it felt so damn good to have that called out in a positive way).
“Every single time you manage to pack so much emotion into your work. I hope that you get told how talented you are each and every day, because you certainly blow me away with your writing every time I read something you’ve written.” (for the Una Chin-Riley/Christopher Pike fic Kiss Me in the Rain, and I most certainly am not told I’m talented each and every day, so this gestalt comment made me cry very, very grateful tears).
Also, every word of the second comment on The Melody of You (and Me) (Una Chin-Riley/Seven of Nine). Just … every gorgeous word.
As you can tell, comments mean a lot to me and I appreciate them so, so much. (Also, a bookmark for The Light Before Dawn has the reader-written tag “comfort in words” and that makes me puddle up with happiness because that cozy sentiment is exactly what I was going for.)
19. trends you noticed in your writing this year
I have multiple instances of a man being quiet so a woman can gather her thoughts. (Tom Paris for Kathryn Janeway in Synchronous Orbit, and Christopher Pike for Una-Chin Riley in The Haze). So that’s … interesting.
I also wrote various possibilities for Seven of Nine soon after Voyager returned to the Alpha Quadrant:
Alight, a double drabble that focuses on Seven’s thoughts about her biosuits;
Lay Down Our Arms, a choose-your-own ending multi-chap that looks at Seven’s relationship with Janeway as well as her friendship with Hugh;
And When We Awaken, Eyes Open to Possibility, We Find Our Voice in the Night, a Hugh and Seven friendship ficlet that looks to her need (or not) to regenerate; and
The Melody of You (and Me), a not-technically-an-AU one-shot in which Seven was treated better by Starfleet but ended up being pulled into another universe in which she is in love with Una Chin-Riley (of course).
20. fics you wanted to write but didn’t
I don’t know.
21. something you want to write next year
I don’t know.
22. an idea from one of your fics that you want people to think about
Chrysalis is about metamorphosis (obviously) with Una and Chris both changing over the three days they’re in the shuttle (changing mentally — this is not at all a Threshold situation). But it’s also a story about taking a step back (unintentionally in their case) and noticing external toxicity. Naomi Osaka, Simone Biles — anyone and everyone who has walked away from a mentally or physically dangerous situation (and, in the story, Chris and Una ran away from both) — these people were in my head as I wrote. It can take phenomenal courage to save the drowning self, and I wanted to depict our heroes doing exactly that. Not easily. Not without doubts, sometimes, or challenges. But they do it, helping each other along the way, and I wanted that positive energy in the world.
———
If anyone has questions on any of that, please ask. Also, if you write, I’d love to read your fanfic 2022 answers!

Are you still open to Orville requests?
I am! If you have any Orville requests please send them. Especially if they have to do with our dear captain, although I will of course write for others too, my Seth McFarlane crush is going hard at the moment.

Because the world needs more Orville fanworks
So is anyone watching The Orville? And if so, can we talk about Kelly and Ed? I haven't even made up my mind whether I like the show yet, but I already ship those two SO HARD. (Is their ship name Mercson? Is that the plan?) Anyway this ficlet popped into my head and demanded to be written, and since I am feeling too lazy at the moment to get The Orville added as a category on AO3, I thought I’d put it on my old friend The Tumblr. Just a short and (bitter)sweet little moment between the captain and the XO.
Rating: K
Pairing: Kelly Grayson/Ed Mercer (Mercson, I believe?)
“So what’s the deal with Alara?”
Kelly looks up from her lunch as Ed walks into her office and drops into the seat in front of her desk. “What do you mean?” she asks, although deep down she suspects she knows.
“I don’t know,” he shrugs as he casually reaches out and steals one of the cherry tomatoes off her plate. The move takes her back a year and a half and more, to a thousand meals just like this: the pair of them together, chatting casually over the table, with Ed eating her tomatoes because he knows she doesn’t like them. The thought gives her a pang of nostalgia that she violently shoves back into its usual deep dark corner of her heart. “She’s been kind of weird,” he explains after a moment’s thought. “Sort of jumpy and on edge, almost . . . nervous, you know what I’m saying?”
Yes, Kelly knows exactly what he’s saying, and she wonders how to respond. Alara is her friend, and she doesn’t want to embarrass her. To answer truthfully would feel like betraying a confidence, even though Alara hasn’t actually told her anything; what Kelly knows is the result of observation, not confession.
But on the other hand, Ed is her captain, and if she has information about a personnel issue that could affect how the senior officers interact with each other, maybe she should say something. Imagine if it led to sloppy behavior on a mission, or in a landing party: the results could be disastrous.
(And on a third hand, he’s more than her captain. Alara might be a friend but Ed is . . . well, she has no idea what she and Ed are to each other, but she knows that whatever it is, it’s strong, stronger than her friendship with Alara. It has not escaped her wry, resigned notice that even now, sixteen months after the divorce, Ed is still the most significant relationship in her life.)
“I’m just worried, I guess,” Ed is continuing. “Those could be indicators of stress. Are we overworking her? I know she’s well trained, and she’s strong as an ox, but she’s still so green; twenty-three is pretty young to be a chief security officer. Should I lessen her hours until she’s feeling better?”
“Don’t do that,” Kelly says immediately. She doesn’t want to undermine the tenuous respect that Alara is starting to command among the crew, especially not when stress and overworking are not actually what’s ailing the young Xelayan. “It’s just . . .” How to put this in a way that won’t embarrass her young friend? “It’s being around you, to be honest. She’s kind of got a little hero-worship thing going on.” That’s essentially the truth, anyway.
Ed’s eyebrows raise in surprise.
“It’s actually really normal for young recruits to develop that kind of admiration for their commanding officers,” she says. “I mean, you remember the first captain I served under, Captain Cardaleer? I followed him around with stars in my eyes for the first six months. I actually used to take notes on all his crew-wide debriefings.”
“I see,” says Ed with understanding in his face. Too much understanding, actually; she can see at a glance that he heard all the things that she carefully didn’t say. So much for discretion. She never could hide much from Ed . . . except the affair, of course. “You mean she’s got a little bit of a–yeah, in retrospect, that actually explains a lot. So what should I do?”
“Don’t do anything,” she says immediately. “If you say anything you’ll just embarrass her. Give her a few months and it’ll wear off; she’ll find someone new to admire.” It occurs to her, not for the first time, how lucky she is to be serving under Ed; she can only imagine what her previous captain would have done with the fact that one of his young underlings was harboring a crush on him. An XO shouldn’t have to spend half her time comforting heartbroken crew members and trying to keep her captain from causing an HR nightmare.
But Ed wouldn’t do that–not with a subordinate, especially one who is so young and so new to the Union. He’s got his faults, but deep down, he’s a good guy. Always was, always will be.
Kelly goes on. “She’s smart, and a good officer; I don’t think you have to worry about getting any love letters or anything.”
He gives her that little smile of his, the one that just sort of beams at her like she’s done something wonderful, the one that used to be exclusively hers, the one that she’s never been able to resist. “If you say so, Kel. I trust you.” He grabs another of her tomatoes. “What’s the deal with that, though? I thought she’d been dating some guys on the ship. None of those worked out?”
She shrugs. “Apparently most of the guys she’s tried to date on the ship have been really put off by the fact that she’s stronger than them.” She hesitates, then adds, “I think that’s one thing Alara likes about you. You see her strength as something to be admired, not something she should be ashamed of.”
He chuckles and leans back in his chair. “I didn’t do it to get her to fall for me, but I do stand by that attitude. It’s one of the things that makes her awesome.”
Kelly laughs and rolls her eyes. “I wish more guys felt that way. And not just about strength. Some males can be really threatened by female competence.”
Ed snorts. “Which I’ve never understood What’s the appeal in being with someone who needs you to do everything for them? I always find competence sexy. I mean, that’s why I first asked you . . . out . . .” He trails off, wincing a little, and fixes his gaze on something on the wall behind her.
They’ve gotten better about not bringing up their past; some days she can pretend that they’ve never been anything except professional colleagues. It’s probably better that way. And in that spirit, she should drop this, she really should. But her mouth doesn’t listen to her brain. “Really? That was what you liked about me?”
He meets her eyes then, grinning a little shyly. “Well, yeah. You remember that hand-to-hand combat class we had? You kicked my butt; I was sore for days. And you were so good that I just thought, ‘I need to know that girl.’”
This is the most they’ve talked about their romantic history since they were trapped in that Calivon zoo. And maybe it has Ed feeling a little vulnerable too, because he clearly feels the need to break the silence with a joke. “You know, I just said something really nice about you. You should return the favor. My ego needs some stroking.”
She laughs aloud at that. “All right,” she says, and thinks back to those early days at Union Point, when she first started noticing her over-eager, over-optimistic, over-sincere classmate with the warm brown eyes. Then, ignoring the little pang in her chest: “The first thing I noticed about you . . . well, I mean, you were such a hard worker, and so smart; we all knew you’d do great things. But what I liked about you was how you wanted to believe the best of everything and everyone. You weren’t naive, you just preferred . . . to hope for the best. I’d always been so relentlessly practical, so to be around your optimism was, I don’t know. Nice.”
Optimism you took from him, says a voice in her head that she’s mostly managed to keep quiet the last few months. She hates herself for cheating because she lost Ed, but she also hates herself for cheating because she made Ed lose his way, as well as his hopeful outlook on life. And his ability to trust others, adds the voice, and she savagely tells it to shut up because if she starts down that path of self-flagellation, she’s going to be in a bad mood all day.
Ed is nodding thoughtfully. “It’s not as cool as beating people up, but I’ll take it.”
She chuckles, and he slaps his hands down on his knees in a final sort of way. “So, do nothing? That’s your advice?” She nods and he smiles. “You always have been better at solving my problems than I have,” he says–something that’s become a bit of a joke between them ever since the first time he said it, after their first mission together on the Orville.
“That’s why they pay me the big bucks,” she says–another joke between them, from long ago.
There’s that little smile again, the one that–yes, she admits it–has her heart rate subtly accelerating. “Thanks, Kel,” he says, and rises from his chair, and leaves the office.
And Kelly sits quietly at her desk, her eyes fixed on her office door, for a long time after he’s gone.

cautious ~ ed mercer;the orville
word count: 3051
request?: no
description: the orville saves a beautiful woman from certain danger, and ed is reminded of all the times he fell for a woman who wasn’t what she seemed to be
pairing: ed mercer x female!reader
warnings: swearing
masterlist (one, two)
Tumblr media
Ed was careful as he pried open the door of the shuttle they found floating in space. A scan on the shuttle indicated a trace of life, but their requests for contact kept being denied. Isaac found that the shuttle seemed to be out of power, aimlessly floating through space, just waiting for trouble to come.
Ed took it upon himself to investigate. If there was someone on the shuttle who needed help and they passed by on the off chance that this was some Krill attack, he would never forgive himself.
The minute he opened the door, a deathly chill hit Ed. The shuttle was dark and silent. Ed feared he was already too late until he literally stumbled across the body of a female human. She was laying on the ground, her body curled up and a thin layer of frost starting to cover her.
Ed knelt down next to her to scan her. She was still alive, but just barley.
“Mercer to bridge,” he said into his communication device. “I found a human female. She’s alive, but we definitely got to her in time. Prepare a bed in sick bay for her.”
“Aye sir,” came Kelly’s voice in response.
Ed carefully slipped one arm under the woman’s shoulders and another under her legs. He picked her up and held her close to him. Th moment her cold body met his warm one, her eyes opened just a little.
“Hey, don’t worry,” he told her. “I got you.”
~~~~~~
Some time later, Ed and Kelly walked into sick bay to check on their latest passenger. After warming her up, Dr. Finn did a quick check up to make sure everything was okay. She was finishing up on the check up when the two commanders of the ship walked in.
“How is she?” Kelly asked.
“Everything seems alright,” Dr. Finn responded. “Just a bit cold and in need of water, but I’ve fixed both of that already.”
Ed looked at the woman, her blanket still around her shoulders and a glass of water in her hand. “How do you feel?”
“Like I almost froze to death,” she responded. “I feel like my fingertips are permanently frozen.”
“That feeling will go away eventually,” Dr. Finn assured her. “I’ll leave you three.”
The woman stood from the bed, holding her blanket tightly around her shoulders. He couldn’t explain why, but Ed just had the urge to reach out and hold her. She wasn’t as frail looking now, but he still wanted to protect her, or at least to help her feel her fingertips again.
“Thank you so much for saving me, Captain,” she said. “I really thought I was a goner there.”
“I did too when I first found you,” Ed said. “Why were you out there on your own? And what happened to your shuttle?”
“I’m an explorer. I travel alone, with clearance of course. My shuttle ran out of fuel a while back. I was hoping to find another ship that could help me, or drift to a nearby planet where I could refuel. Unfortunately, I had no such luck.”
“How long were you floating out there?” Kelly asked.
“Oh, I have no idea. After the power went down it didn’t take long for the cold to seep in. I managed to fight it for a little while, but soon enough it got so cold I could barley function. I had little hope that anyone would save me, so I laid down on the floor of my shuttle and basically waited to die.” She shivered, trying to forget that doomed feeling she had when the shuttle first ran out of fuel. “What happened to my shuttle? Were you guys able to save it, too?”
“After we got you here, we pulled your shuttle in and gave it to our engineers to fix,” Ed explained. “They’ll refuel it as well as repair any damages it may have. Hopefully they can give you a bigger fuel tank while they’re at it.”
The woman chuckled. “Well, thank you both so much for everything. Is there anything I can do to repay you?”
“You almost froze to death out there. I think repayment is the last thing on our minds,” Kelly said. “We’re just glad you’re okay. And you’re free to stay with us as long as you need. I don’t think I’d feel right sending you off on your shuttle so soon after what happened to you.”
“Same here,” Ed agreed. “We’ll have a room set up for you whenever you’re ready to leave sick bay.”
“I’m ready to leave now,” she said. “I’m ready to lay in an actual soft, warm bed and sleep for about 12 hours.”
~~~~~~
After settling away in her room and sleeping for the exact time she said she would, Ed went to her room to check in on her and offer her a tour of The Orville. He told her that he figured she should become acquainted with the place if she was going to be staying a while, but the truth was that he just wanted to spend some time with her. He wished he could say he wanted to spend time with her because there was something about her that drew him to her, but the truth was he just thought she was extremely beautiful. As superficial as it was, he just wanted to be in her presence for any length of time.
He led her onto the bridge where his crew were hard at work as always. “And this is the bridge where the magic happens. Or well, most of the magic anyways. The most important magic I guess.”
(Y/N) looked around the bridge with astonishment. “Holy shit, this is amazing! You just...you guys sit here all the time and get to see...everything?”
“Basically, yeah.” Ed turned to his crew to add, “Everyone, this is (Y/N). She’s going to be staying with us for a while. (Y/N), you’ve already met Kelly. This is Lieutenants Gordon Malloy and Alara Kitan, Lieutenant Commanders Bortus and John LaMarr, and resident robot Isaac.”
Everyone said their hellos to (Y/N) as she awkwardly waved at them.
“Thank you all so much for saving me out there,” she said. “And for being so welcoming of me staying on the ship.”
“I think it’s pretty cool to have an explorer on the ship,” Gordon said. “You don’t have to be tied down to going to one specific place or doing meaningless tasks when you don’t want to. It just sounds so freeing.”
“It’s probably the best experience of my life,” (Y/N) agreed. “I love being out there, but it’ll be nice to be around people for a while. I’ve been traveling by myself for I don’t know how long now, and you start to go a bit crazy with no one to talk to.”
“I guess it’s a good thing you were saved by a Union ship then,” Kelly said. “There’s plenty of people around here to make you wish you were on your own again.”
(Y/N) chuckled. Ed tried to fight back the smile that tugged at his lips when he heard the sound, but it was impossible. It was like listening to the most beautiful music he had ever heard.
“Hey, are you going to be joining us for the formal gathering tonight?” Alana asked (Y/N). “All of us on board are going to dress up all fancy and eat fancy foods and drink way too much. It’s going to be a lot of fun.”
“Sounds like fun,” (Y/N) said, although there was some skepticism in her voice.
“It’s just a way for everyone to unwind after some of our more trying travels,” Ed explained. “We rarely get to let our hair down and dress up, so we’re doing this formal type of party. It was Kelly’s idea I think.”
“Nope, not at all,” Kelly quipped.
“But anyways, you should join us if you feel up for it,” Ed continued, ignoring his Commander. “It’ll be more fun than you think it is.”
(Y/N) looked around the room of hopeful faces looking back at her. She sighed and shrugged. “Why the hell not? I haven’t been to any sort of gathering in years, and haven’t drank in just as long. Sounds like it’ll be a blast.”
Ed tried not to let his excitement show too much.
~~~~~~
Hours later, everyone was gathered in what was usually the lunch room. They were all dressed in their finest clothes and already had started drinking maybe too much of the alcohol provided.
Ed was stood with Gordon and John as they talked about something regarding some comedy show they had been watching. He was trying his best to act like he was listening, but his attention kept flickering to the door, waiting for (Y/N) to arrive. He was wondering when she was going to show up, or if she was going to show up at all. He’d understand if she didn’t; a room full of people she didn’t know after the experience she had would be more than nerve wracking for anyone. But he was really hoping she would.
“Hey,” Dr. Finn said, cutting into the conversation and effectively bringing Ed’s attention back to the group. “How’s our new passenger doing?”
“She’s great as far as I can tell,” Ed replied. “She got lots of rest, toured the ship today. She said she was going to come tonight but I don’t think she’s here yet.”
“Oh come on, you know she’s not here,” Gordon said. “You’ve been staring at the door all night.”
Ed tried to defend himself, to say that wasn’t true, but all that came out was a couple scoffs and a stuttered response. Gordon and John shared a look that said Ed was just proving their point.
“Don’t act like you weren’t because we’ve seen you looking at the door,” John said. “And at one point the two of us were just insulting you and you were agreeing with us.”
“There’s nothing wrong with being a little infatuated with (Y/N),” Gordon added. “I mean, she’s gorgeous. And you did save her life after all. I’m sure even the slightest bit of attraction came from that.”
Dr. Finn scoffed. “You men really think women swoon over everything you do. Just because Ed saved her doesn’t mean she’s automatically attracted to him. You need to build a connection with someone first, to really get to know them before you jump into anything with them.”
“Ed’s really not the best with that,” Gordon muttered to John, which earned him an elbow to the ribs from the latter.
It dawned on Ed then that his helmsman was right; he really didn’t have the best track record when it came to getting to know someone before jumping into something with them. Besides his relationship with Kelly (although even that was a bad example considering how it ended) he had rushed into something with every woman who showed him the slightest bit of attraction and it always blew up in his face. Especially his previous two romantic attractions, Pria and Janel/Teleya.
Ed felt himself getting inside of his own head. He didn’t want to think things would be like that with (Y/N) - especially when he didn’t even know if she had any attraction to him - but it was hard not to focus on the awful endings with the last women he had been with. He barely knew (Y/N), he had no idea if she was entirely a good person or if she had some sort of plan up her sleeve to screw over Ed and the Orville.
His thoughts were interrupted when someone asked him, “Isn’t she beautiful?”
He looked up to see that the “she” in question was (Y/N), who had walked into the party wearing a beautiful champagne colored, sparkling dress. It hugged her body around her torso, then came down in a more loose way around her legs, giving her more room to move. Her hair was pulled back into a braid, which just showed off her beautiful face even more. All eyes were on her as she moved through the party.
Suddenly, all the worries Ed had had vanished from his mind.
(Y/N) walked up to him, Gordon, John, Dr. Finn, and Alana, who was the one who had asked about how (Y/N) looked.
“I feel like I dressed a bit too fancy,” she said. “I stick out like a sore thumb.”
“You really don’t at all,” John said. “You look incredible.”
(Y/N) smile was just as bright as her dress. “Thank you. Alana helped me pick it out. I’m no good with formal wear, especially after wearing basically the same clothes for months on end.”
“I just had a look through some human fashion magazines and picked something I thought would look nice on her,” Alana said. “You guys can say it, I’m a genius.”
Ed felt like he couldn’t say much of anything. He was speechless at the sight of her.
(Y/N) looked at Ed, causing him to quickly snap out of his trance. “You look really nice, Captain.”
“T-Thanks. So - uh - so do you.”
The other crew members shared a look before finding an excuse to dismiss themselves, leaving Ed and (Y/N) alone.
The two spent most of the night together, just talking and sharing stories about their travels. Every so often, (Y/N) would be pulled into a conversation with someone else, but it would never last long. Soon enough, she’d be back in front of Ed and starting another story of another place she had been.
When the night was coming to an end, Ed offered to walk (Y/N) back to her room. Her arm was laced through his as he guided her through the halls. She’d stumble every so often and curse under her breath, which would always cause Ed to laugh.
“I don’t know why I told Alana I’d wear heels with this dress,” (Y/N) said. “I knew I was going to be drinking. Heels and drinking just don’t mix.”
“I guess they complete the outfit or something? I don’t know, I was never good with women’s fashion. I used to let Kelly do whatever she wanted and I’d tell her she looked fine.”
(Y/N) gave Ed a look he had seen numerous times before since embarking on his adventures with The Orville. “Is it hard to work alongside your ex-wife? Especially after...what she did?”
Ed shrugged. “It used to be, but we’ve gotten so used to one another now and we’ve both tried our hands at dating. We realized that it was never going to work and it’s better that we stay...whatever we are now I guess.”
“Well, I have to applaud the two of you. If I was working along side my ex-husband I don’t think I’d have any sanity left.”
“You were married?”
Her face suddenly changed. She turned away from Ed and looked down the hallway, a vacant look on her face. As if her natural reaction was to shut down when the question was asked.
“Not married, but I was engaged,” she said. “He, uh, he left me at the alter. Said he got cold feet, but I found out it was actually because he started banging a  Regorian a few weeks earlier.”
Ed cringed. “Yeah, I know that feeling. Except I was already a few years into my marriage.”
“Yeah, I guess I dodged a bullet with that one.”
They came up outside her room door. Ed was reluctant to let go of her arm, but he knew he couldn’t keep her there all night, no matter how much he wanted to.
(Y/N) turned to look at him, her hand still lingering on his arm. “You don’t deserve that, Ed. You’re such an amazing guy, you deserve someone who is going to give you their all.”
“You deserve someone who is going to give you their all, too.”
They looked at each other for a long time, their comments just hanging in the air. Finally, (Y/N) reached up to cup Ed’s cheek and kissed him passionately. Ed immediately melted into the kiss at first, wrapping his arms around the small of (Y/N)’s back and holding her as closely to him as he possibly could. He felt completely happy and blissful. He never wanted the moment to end.
But then he remembered what Gordon and Dr. Finn had said earlier, and his memories of Pria and Teleya came rushing back. He pulled away a little too quickly, which resulted in a concerned look from (Y/N).
“I-I’m sorry,” she said. “I don’t know what came over me. That was wrong of me to do, I’m so sorry.”
“No, don’t be sorry,” Ed said. “Please, I wanted to do that too. It’s just...I’ve only been with two people since Kelly and I got divorced and neither of those relationships ended well. Like one of them was trying to kidnap me and my crew to sell us to some futuristic pawn shop and the other was a Krill in disguise trying to kill me.”
(Y/N) scrunched up her nose. “Oh, yeah neither of those sound very good at all.”
“No, they weren’t. So, you have to forgive me, but I am a bit cautious right now when it comes to new people and starting a relationship. Not that I think you’re anything like that, but that’s the thing, I really don’t know you all that well yet.”
She nodded. “No, I completely understand. Honestly, you’re also the first person I’ve been attracted to since the whole thing with my ex-fiancé, so this is all new to me, too.”
Ed took one of her hands in his and gave it a slight squeeze. “I don’t know how long you plan on staying with us, but if you’d be willing to give me just a little time, I would love to try to start something with you eventually.”
(Y/N) smiled and pulled Ed towards her. She kissed his cheek lightly before pulling away from him. “I’ll wait as long as you need.”
New Year, New Requests!
However, requests are closed until January 8 :(
I think I’m going to make a choice that might not be popular but with the new year here, I think I’m gonna delete the requests I have and sort of start over. I mean sort of because I’d be willing to do requests that had been requested and continue some of the wips I started but only if the requester comes back and lets me know that they’re still around and wanting the fic. I’m doing this because, you know, new year new requests and I haven’t posted a fic in a long time thanks to my blog being hidden for 3 months. I know I have a lot of requests that I’m scraping and I’m sorry about that but it’s very overwhelming and I hope you understand <3
That being said, I’m putting the requests below the cut for those who requested them to remember which ones are theirs and to let me know! I’m headed back to school hopefully tomorrow for a quarter that starts on the 4th so I might be a little busy to start excepting requests right away but I will soon!
Thanks for sticking around with me guys and I hope this year brings you more content from me :)
*If you do not see your already requested fic on this list and would like me to write it still pls send me an ask and I’ll add it to my list!
Luke Patterson:
Can we get a cutesy/maybe angsty Luke x reader fic based off the scene/look Luke gives Julie when she asks him to “tell her mom she loves her” when they cross over. But it’s the reader planning to tell Luke how she feels & he gets that giddy smile (the band has been hyping her up/but second guesses herself) then they have the performance & reader returns with Julie expecting the boys to be gone but they aren’t & tries to convince them to go to Caleb but Luke says no & she goes to kiss him??
Hey I love your writing!!!!!!! I have a request for a Luke x reader. So basically this is an alive Luke fic where he is dating the reader. The reader is a little insecure of Julie because she keeps overheating how amazing those two are together and how they should start dating or how he’s probably cheating on her with Julie. So one day she goes to surprise him with lunch and she sees them kissing. Luke sees her but she runs away and he runs after her. Do it very angsty with a happy ending where it was Julie who initiated the kiss because she likes Luke but he doesn’t like her and chooses the reader. Sorry it it’s so complicated.
Can i request a Luke x reader based on the song "She Will Be Loved" by Maroon 5💚
Luke Patterson x reader - Friends by Ed Shareen
Luke Patterson x reader please? Maybe with song Style by Taylor Swift? Or just any Taylor Swift song in general? Better than Revenge? All Too Well? Cordelia Street?
Can i request a luke x reader for all too well by taylor swift?
Luke x reader? Nobody Compares? By 1D?
Oooo Luke x reader - either Fallin’ All in You/Mutual/Queen or Like to Be You kinda vibe by Shawn Mendes??? I LOVE ALL YOUR WORK! 💞
Omg what about a Luke Patterson x Mercer!reader with the song Accidentally in Love by Counting Crows from Shrek sksks
could I request luke patterson x reader - remember the mornings by clinton kane 💚
Could I request a luke x reader with girls like us by zoe wees! love your fics
Luke x Reader Upside Down by Austin & Ally?
hi!! I saw you were doing song requests ages ago, but I just thought of one now, pretty new song but it hits you right in the feels 🥺🥺 it’s chicken tendies by Clinton Kane (the name is very misleading 😂)
Can you do "Sex" by The 1975 with Luke you dont have to put smut (maybe implied) just Luke pining after the reader with a happy ending💕
Omg! Hi! So idk if you are still taking song fics but I was folding my laundry at 2 am (you know... gotta love that college life) and The Vamps song Can We Dance came on and I was like Ahhhhh! The perfect Luke x reader song... especially if like set at a party or something... but I’d just thought I would suggest it! Everything you write is so incredibly good PSA!! 💞
Reggie Peters:
hiii! i was wondering if your accepting prompts could write reggie x reader (who is alex’s younger sibling) and they’re kinda sneaking around. Thank you 💛
hiiiii! can i request some mercer sibling x reggie pleasee! really interested to see your take on alex as a big brother!! Xx
Jatp:
ah hi !! heard you needed songs for requests or something? sorry if you don't but idk any other jatp pages if that makes sense. young love by btr could work really well for any ghost member x ghost / living reader?? anyway take with that what you will !! have a good day and much love
Could you do something with the song Amnesia by 5sos? Maybe the reader literally has to move. A happy ending twist? (I don’t remember the character requested :( let me know pls)
Peter Parker:
I was thinking maybe Peter Parker x Cheerleader!Reader? Where they both secretly pine after eachother but due to Peter's shyness reader thinks he's intimated by her popularity and uncomfortable around her and she avoids him because of it. But Peter's shy and awkward because he thinks no one like her would like someone like him because they're so different from one another. And then they get paired together for a project or something and their feelings grow stronger and they start getting even more awkward around eachother and they get in an argument where they both think they've done something wrong and in the heat of the moment they both confess their feelings. Idk I feel like its too detailed of a request so I'm not gonna be upset if you decline it. If you do want to write it feel free to take any artistic liberties you want! Totally up to you.
