AKIRA #6-8 (EPIC)
March/June 1989
By Katsuhiro Otomo, Steve Oliff, and Michael Higgins.
Tetsuo, Kaneda and Kay end up imprisoned, but once the subjects take control over Kay to kill Tetsuo, things will get out of control again. By the end of issue 8, our protagonists will know where Akira (Number 28) is.
SCORE: 8
I know what you're thinking, I should have read the whole thing in one sitting. Well, I'll try to binge-read as much as I can. So far the similarities with the movie are impressive.
I do wonder if this is one of those cases where the coloring process took something important away from the art. Specially whenever there are "speed lines", I cannot help but think those shouldn't have been colored.
I do see things that I don't remember seeing in the movie already, and I can only imagine that more and more differences will start appearing from now on.
Having said what I said about the colors, this was digitally colored and it looks pretty impressive for the time. I like that it doesn't always go all the way. Whenever there is a panel with a white background, the emphasis on the characters really shines.
