[The lights to his cell flickered as Felix lay in his cot, staring up at the ceiling. He silently counted in his head, trying to pass the time until his next food drop off. There wasn't much else to do in here, honestly. Plus, any distraction away from his wounds from his first performance was welcomed. His eyes darted to the door when he heard something new. Someone was approaching, coming through the hallway, but it didn't sound like just footsteps.

A small click could be heard with each one, accompanied by a small jingling sound almost akin to a bell. Felix was confused, not sure why either of those sounds would be getting anywhere close to his door. It wasn't the usual time for anyone to be dropping anything off. Then, instead of the usual tray sliding through, he heard a loud and echoing click as the metal door unlocked.

It swung open slowly, and on the other side was a short young man, with brown hair and blue eyes. He wasn't dressed like a guard, simply in a white t-shirt and a pair of basketball shorts. He had a set of crutches, explaining the click, and a red leather collar with bells on it, explaining the jingling sound. In one of his hands was a small plastic grocery bag, likely snatched from the employee lounge. Felix's brain tried to play catch up to figure out who was standing infront of him, until it clicked when the other man spoke.]

A Digital World

Within the world of pixels and screens, where connections are made with a click and a like, and emotions are conveyed through emojis, we find ourselves in an ironic situation. This is the time of texting, social media, as well as other platforms designed to bring people closer, yet somehow, generation Z is more isolated than any generation before us (which is a little ironic because im writing this for a social media site). While everyone in the modern day suffers from an addiction to our cellphones and other devices the affects are most noticeable in Generation Z, people born between 1997 and 2012, This is because we have grown up in the digital age, where socializing is dependent on our phones and ability to respond quick enough. This reliance on our phones has led to an increase in anxiety and inability to communicate effectively with a lack of social awareness and ability to comprehend nonverbal signs, which can be awkward. Sometimes you just need to step back from your phone and interact with your surroundings!
