Lonely
Lucy Bronze & reader (platonic)
Tumblr media
after moving to barcelona, everything is hard; the language, your anxiety, the loneliness. after a particularly rough day, lucy finds you crying in the changing room and is determined to help.
A/N: based off of this ask! i tried to make it different enough to Fitting In but still along the same vein, i hope you like it ✨
----------------
The sun was shining, it was a beautiful (albeit a bit cold) day in Barcelona, you were playing for one of the best women’s football teams in the world, and everything was perfect.
Well, it should have been. You knew that. Really, there was no reason for you to be anything but happy. When friends and family back home asked you how you were getting on, you told them about the gorgeous scenery, the weather, and how much fun you were having. It wasn’t all a lie, the scenery really was incredible, and the weather was nicer than it was in England, at the very least.
But, if you were being honest? Things were really fucking hard.
You were trying to learn Spanish, really, you were, but languages had never been your thing. Everyone had told you before you left that “it’ll be easy, once you’re surrounded by it!”. Bullshit. You went through the day understanding single words and phrases here and there, but for the most part, it was like your brain just shut off when people started talking.
The language issue, of course, didn’t exactly help your social situation. You’d always found it hard to make friends, even in your native language. Trying to do it in a whole other language felt like an impossible task. The team tried to be welcoming, of course, but most of the time your brain was too exhausted from trying to keep up with the language for you to socialise. The other international players helped a little and would translate things for you sometimes, but you were the newest recruit and everyone else’s Spanish was miles better than yours. You could tell that the other players were making an effort to speak Spanish, some even learning Catalan, and you didn’t want to be the stereotypical English speaking person who couldn’t be bothered to speak the language of the country they were in. So, when everyone would burst out laughing at something Aitana said, you laughed along, hoping no one would catch on to the fact that you hadn’t understood it.
You had hoped to become friends with Lucy and Keira, thinking that it would be nice to have at least a couple other English players to talk to, but they seemed so settled in their lives here that you felt like you were intruding. Lucy spent a lot of time with the Spanish girls and seemed to talk Spanish, or at least a mix of Spanish and English, most of the time, and Keira did the same. Even when you had the opportunity to talk to them, your social anxiety would flare up, and you’d find yourself overthinking and debating what to say for so long that by the time you’d decided, the moment had passed.
So, you kept to yourself, mostly. You spent a lot of time observing your teammates, their interactions with one another. Trying to figure out how you could interact with them, then losing the courage to do so.
Your teammates felt bad, they could tell that you hadn’t settled in and that you were the outsider of the group, but with so much training and all of the games the team had, it was all too easy to forget about everything outside of football.
That’s how, on that beautiful day in Barcelona, after a particularly tough training session, you found yourself crying in an empty changing room. You’d waited until everyone went home, stalling and saying you wanted to run a few more laps. Once the changing room was empty, you collapsed on a bench, staring into space, not even aware of the tears beginning to stream down your face. You were so tired of having to try so hard all the time, and if you were honest, you were really lonely.
The door to the changing room bangs open, making you jump, and you look up to see Lucy standing there carrying a box of towels. The look of surprise on her face quickly changes to one of concern when she realises you’re crying, as you quickly try to wipe away your tears, white-hot embarrassment flooding your body.
“Woah, y/n, are you okay? What’s wrong, do you need me to get someone?” Lucy asks, putting the box on the bench closest to her. She stays by the door, looking like she’s not sure whether to come closer and comfort you or to leave to get help.
“Um, no, it’s okay, I’m okay,” you say, sniffing a little and laughing awkwardly. “I’m fine, seriously. Don’t worry about it.”
The brunette raises an eyebrow as she comes closer and lets the door swing shut. “Yeah, right, pull the other one. Clearly something’s not okay, or else you wouldn’t be sat here, crying, alone.”
“Yeah, I guess you got me there,” you smile weakly. “But really, it’s okay. It’s nothing.”
“If it’s upsetting you, it’s not nothing,” she says firmly, sitting down next to you. “What’s going on?”
You shrug, not wanting to burden her with your problems and not sure where to start. “It’s just a lot, sometimes, y’know?”
She nods sympathetically. “The language?”
“Yeah,” you sigh. “I’m trying, I really am, but it’s just so hard, and I don’t know, maybe I’m not trying hard enough, but I am trying, really-”
“Hey,” she interrupts you, placing a hand on your back. “It’s okay. It is hard. Everyone can see that you’re trying.”
“Really?” you say, doubt clouding your mind. “Because I feel like I understand way less than everyone thinks I do. Most of the time I’m just copying other people’s reactions, or nodding along.”
She laughs. “Yeah, I did that at first, too. It gets easier after a while, I promise.”
“I’m not sure it will. I don’t-”, you start, breaking off as you struggle to figure out what you wanted to say. “I don’t know how to do a lot of social stuff. Talking to people. I can’t even handle it in English most of the time, to be honest. I feel like even without the language problem, there’s the me problem.”
She lets out a laugh at that, but it’s not a mean one. “What do you mean, a you problem?”
“The me problem,” you explain. “I feel like I’m like, an alien or something. I don’t know how to behave, how to be a real human like the rest of you.”
At that, she puts a hand on your shoulder, turning you to be facing her. “Y/n,” she says, a serious look on her face. “You’re a real human.”
“No, I know that I’m a real human,” you roll your eyes, letting out a small giggle. Lucy smiles, glad to have made you laugh. “I just don’t feel like it sometimes. I don’t know how to interact with people. Like, what do people talk about? What do people do when they’re hanging out? It was fine with my friends back home, because we’ve known each other forever, they know what I’m like and I know what they’re like. But here, it’s all so… different.”
Lucy stands, holding out a hand to you. When you take it she pulls you up, a determined look on her face. “Right, well, it sounds like we have to get you feeling more comfortable here. So, you’re going to come back to my place, we’re going to play something on the Playstation or watch something on TV, and tonight a couple of the girls are coming over. But only a couple, and I’ll tell them that we’re having an English night, no speaking Spanish allowed, alright?”
“Oh, no, it’s okay, I don’t want to be a bother-” you start, but she quickly cuts you off.
“Nonsense!” she says, swinging an arm around your shoulder. “We look out for each other on this team. You’re a part of the team, y/n. So we’ll look out for you too. Got it?”
You nod, feeling nervous but excited, even hopeful.
And she was right. It ended up being one of the best evenings you’d had in a long time, and it wasn’t long before you started to feel like you really were not just a part of the team, but a part of the family. “English” nights even became a regular thing, the Spanish and other international players eager for a chance to practise their English even more (not that they had to, it seemed like they were all basically fluent). Lucy and Keira tried to help you with the language, giving you their tips. Honestly? Their tips weren’t much help, and it was still pretty hard. But as difficult as it was, you had to admit that, slowly but surely, it was all getting easier, especially with friends by your side.

PARATRANSCRIPT Good morning good afternoon good evening wherever you are listening, I am richard murray and this is I Heard A Setpiece , Sportsburstfans Question and Answer episode 2
Two members of the group. Clayton Brown side Lyonga MArtin Monono asked me to look at a video from Have Hope's Football Hut, concerning the transfer battle over Jules Kounde of France, between Chelsea football club side Barcelona Football Club.
The following is my thoughts as I listened to "Have Hope" ...
0:11 he starts out with a falsehood. Barca did not give "us" meaning the soccer fans the following players neymar<santos>/romario<vasco de gama>/ronaldhino<gremio>/rivaldo<timao>/dani alves <bahia> Sports viewers have to comprehend something. if you don't watch the global game, that is not the fault of the game. That is your fault. The world is full of many great leagues and teams and if you don't know about them, shame on you.
0:20 Now he asks the question, has Chelsea ever had a generational talent. To be honests, I don't know what a generational talent it. That sounds like a lot of that GOAT nonsense. But lets hear him out
1:56 He begins with the point that fc barca is a bigger brand than chelsea fc. This is the truth. Chelsea FC prove that big money even through a long period isn't enough to overcome historical brands. ala, MUFC over MCFC or OM over PSG.
3:05 He says Chelsea never played a generational talent. I don't know if Drogba or any other player is generational talent but I know Drogba is a goalscorer on par to any other. But to his point, Drogba is a Marseille player, not a Chelsea player. Oh and Cruyff is an Ajax player.
4:27 Chelsea don't have a strict strategic identity. But this is most clubs in soccer in history, all over the world. Also, the new statian owner kicked out people like peter cech from the administration in chelsea so...
5:29 He is right, Chelsea in the Roman era was like many big money teams, past or future, they get great players. Barca did the same at the end of the Bartomeyu era.
7:34 he ask why you watch football. The first football I watched was flag play and then italian serie a or liga mx. And I didn't have a team allegiaance early.
8:32 Ngolo Kante is a star or special player. to say Ngolo Kante isn't is a lie. Now does Chelsea have a goal scoring star or special player? the answer is no.
10:35 The video host concludes with the point that all other clubs are stepping stones to barca/real madrid. He is incorrect plus correct. Perception is power and money is powerful. The problem with BArca or real madrid is for most of the last 30 years, they have been the highest wage givers among the big clubs. Meaning they pay the most. The term galacticos comes from Real Madrid. and the original galacticos did not win a lot. so, money talks. The media genious of barca or real madrid is that they jumped on the idea that the global populace is ignorant to a lot of soccer, even domestically where they live, so they can be swayed into certain narratives or thinkings. And, this sways players movements. As most players have agents whose goal isn't a players athletic health, it is a players financial health and this means, big contract plus big sponsorships. Meaning what? a player for barca will get more sponsors than a player for Bayern or Benfica, even though, from a historical perspective it can be argued, bayern or benfica are bigger teams. So, perception matters. And perception is on the side of Barca or Real MAdrid in the community of big money clubs and that influences alot of money and that has a role with players. Some can argue that LEwandowski hit the financial ceiling of what he can do with bayern while even taking a pay cut he can do far better with barca, even without winning a uefa champions league. But, never forget, Totti/Mbappe/Pirlo many great players have said no to Barcelona or real madrid. So it is dangerous saying all other clubs are stepping stones to Barca or real madrid. But, for some players that is true, for some players that is not true.
I paraphrase Gary Lineker, concerning when Real MAdrid didn't get Mbappe, which the video host missed, the paraphrase "i love spanish soccer, but real madrid barca have out bid many over the years, just cause they don't get this time isn't the end of soccer"

Can you do one where gavi is on tour and he is excused to leave dinner early and when he gets back to his hotel room his gf (whoever is reading) is there and it goes on from that (they had🤫) but you guys were too loud so when gavi got out pedri and his friends tease and and yeah. Sorry if this is very detailed😭
His Surprise
Tumblr media
Since he spent so much time with you during summer, Pablo really got used to having you around all the time that his trip to US was quite hard.
"Amor, I will see you in less than two weeks.." you told him while you cuddled the last night together at home and he was acting like a true whining baby.
"Two weeks is a long time with no cuddles.." he whined and you giggled holding him closer and kissing the top of is head lovingly.
"You can always cuddle with Pedri amor??" you joke giggling while he kept whining nuzzling further into your neck and leaving a few open mouth kisses along the way.
"You're my big bebé, did you know??" you say and he shakes his head always acting like a 'big and strong man' but with you he could always be a goofy boy.
"I'm gonna miss you like crazy!!" he said looking up and you smiled nodding your head and leaning down to kiss his lips.
"Me too cariño..so go and win and come back home to me" you say and you both smiled agreeing on that plan before falling asleep.
While he was on the plane, he kept his phone glued to his face texting with you and occasionally checking gallery for your pictures that made him smile. Even the camera caught him smiling like an idiot to his phone while filming content for fcbarca account.
pablitoo: just came to the hotel room princesa
you: you should rest up cariño <3
pablitoo: i want to see you! ft??
That ended up you both falling asleep on the phone with each other and Pablo waking up grumpy not having anybody to hold before getting ready for the first morning training.
"Ay hermano, que pasa contigo?? You slept bad??" Ansu asked noticing the dark circles under Pablo's eyes but he didn't care as long as he gets to talk to you before bed.
"That's what happens when your girl is in the different time zone. Same is with me and Mikky especially now with the pregnancy..I'm always on the phone!" Frankie added and Pablo blushed a little when his friends were teasing him about being a simp.
He really didn't care what they said..yes, he was such a simp for you!
After another training in the evening, Pablo's stomach got very sensitive again and he really didn't feel like going to the welcome party.
"You gotta do it hermano, it's polite since they welcomed us and all" Pedri explained and Gavi knew that was right but he also knew that when he comes back you will already be fast asleep in Barcelona.
Damn the time zones! Why can't time be the same everywhere!
Pablo called you when he got ready wanting to at least to talk for a little while and show you his outfit since he was very proud of it. No answer. He tried again thinking you were in the bathroom or something. Again, no answer. Where were you?
pablitoo: amor, I'm going to the welcome party. pls call me when you see this <3 te amo!
The whole time he was there with the boys, he kept checking if you answered but there was nothing. Something was wrong. You never go to bed without sending him a text or better yet calling to tell him how much you miss his cuddles.
"Tranquí, hermano..she was with your hermana today. Maybe they went out?" Araujo said and that made me jump getting to an idea. I should call Aurora!
"H..hola?" her voice was groggy and I knew that I woke her up in the middle of the night.
"Rora! Sorry to call but.." before Pablo could finish the girl interrupted him quickly and angrily.
"Pablo, it's the middle of the night! This better be good cause I have classes tomorrow!" she said and Pablo rolled his eyes at hpw dramatic his sister is right now.
"I know Aurora! But Y/n's not answering her phone and I'm worried!" Pablo snapped walking out of the venue so that nobody can hear the talk he had with his sister.
"She's probably sleeping cabrón! You're worrying too much! We were having lunch today and she looked fine to me" Aurora said but Pablo wasn't convinced. Something wasn't right.
"She wouldn't go to bed without texting me Rora.." Pablo said feeling his breathing become heavy knowing that he is too far away to find out what's going on right this second.
"I'm going back to sleep Pablo!" Aurora hung up and Pablo sighed walking back to the venue where Xavi pulled him to the side.
"You should go back to the hotel chico" the man said and Pablo raised his eyebrows wondering what the hell was going on tonight with everybody.
"Why?" Pablo asked but the man just said it would be best if he finds out on his own so he left with the taxi avoiding the cameras and fans.
"Mr. Gavira?" the receptionist called and Pablo snapped really at the end of his patience.
"Sorry, but you have this left for you..." she said giving Pablo the letter he opened and now really freaked out.
"I saw that you like having fun with blondes around LA. I need to travel and clear my head. Please give me space. -Y/n"
"Mierda!" Pablo curse running to his room hoping to grab his computer and figure out what the hell you were talking about because he haven't even taken a picture with girl fans alone.
"Joder!" he had trouble opening the door when suddenly it opened form the inside you were standing right there with a mischievous smile on you face.
"A..a.mor?" he was in utter shock and you giggled nodding your head and jumping into his arms hugging him tightly and he held you back walking inside the room for some privacy.
"But..but..I got this..and you didn't reply all day..how are you here???" he was so lost and you loved it shutting him up with a kiss and grabbing that letter shredding it to pieces and tossing it to the trashcan.
"Blondes huh?" you smirked and he shook his head catching his breath before grabbing you and tossing you on the bed before hovering above you.
"You know I only like brunnetes princesa..or well my brunnete" he smirked kissing your lips and starting to devour your neck.
"P..Pablo" you moaned and he smirked taking off your clothes hastily like he was afraid if he doesn't that you will just suddenly disappear.
"Slow down amor.." you giggle at his sudden frustration kissing his lips lovingly and helping him take of his clothes.
"Mm I like the outfit cariño..." you smirk when it ended on the floor and he was already resting comfortably between your legs eager to get what he needed since he left home.
"I called you to show you before leaving but you didn't reply nena.." Pablo smirked looking up while kissing down your stomach.
"I was in the plane cariño.." you moaned when he finally started kissing the inside of your thighs getting closer where you desperately needed him.
You two were enjoying your "play time" completely clueless that players started returning form the party slowly and were passing by your hotel room.
"Ahh P..a..ablo" your moans were apparent and the boys smirked winking at each other while snickering.
"Cabrón is definitely having a better party here!" Pedri smirked and the rest chuckled as they each went to their separate rooms.
The next morning, you were exhausted and Pablo had an early morning meeting he went to with a bright smile on his face.
"Hola chicos!" he said sitting besides Ansu and Ferran who were smirking at each other.
"How are you Gavi??" Ferran asked and Pablo gave him a confused look.
"Better yet how is your girl after last night..you're a beast Gavira!" Pedri jumped in and everyone laughed while Pablo blushed bright red that they heard it.
"Um..she..she is sleeping..but I will bring her some breakfast when this ends" Pablo said feeling so shy at the moment but internally gloating with pride of course.
"Yeah you better and don't forget the flowers!" Rapha said and Pablo just nodded with red cheeks running to grab a ball and train on his own just to avoid more teasing.
you: read your note cariño. when will you be back? i miss you <3
pablitoo: just finished the training and bringing you some breakfast princesa <3
"Are we done until the evening míster??" Pablo asked Xavi
"Yes, we are but Pablo remember the rule I have day before the games?" Xavi smirked and now Pablo was very embarrassed that the man heard about it too.
"Mm yes sir" Pablo answered and Xavi tapped his shoulder.
"There is a nice Mediterranean restaurant you can take your girl today" Xavi winked and Pablo nodded his head taking the name before heading to the hotel.
He came back smirking when he saw that you were still in bed..very much naked. Sunlight was caressing your soft skin and you never looked more beautiful to Pablo.
"Here is some breakfast amor" he sat down the plate he ordered downstairs with some french toast, eggs, and lots of different kinds of fruit.
"This is so much Pablo.." you were in awe at how beautiful this looked taking a phone out and wanting to take a picture with him in it of course.
"Nothing is too much for you princesa.." he leans in and kisses your lips before you both start snacking on some fruits.
You went to walk around LA together for the rest of the day enjoying being together again. You found a secluded area on the nearby beach where you sat on the towel and cuddled up together.
"Do you know that they heard us amor??" Pablo said while you were eating some ice cream looking up at his slightly pink face.
"Who??" you said feeling your own face heat up..yeah, you were kinda loud last night but you couldn't help it form the way Pablo was making you feel.
"Um..most of them" he said and you hid your face into his neck in embarrassment.
"But it's fine. I really don't care. Now they know you're all mine" he smirked and you hit his shoulder telling him that you must be quiet form now on.
"Don't get any ideas tonight princesa..the game is tomorrow and you know Xavi's rule" he smirked and you rolled your eyes finishing the rest of your ice cream.
"We'll see who will start having those ideas first Gavira.." you passed him winking and he started chasing you on the beach and when he caught you and tossed you over his shoulder he said "thank you for coming amor! I can't want for you to see me play tomorrow"
He put you down and you snaked your arms around his neck going on your tip toes to kiss his lips lovingly.
"I'm so proud of you cariño..te amo" you said into his lips and he smiled.
"Yo te amo mucho princesa" he said grabbing your face and pulling you into another kiss.

so what does pk's dad do? was pk inducted into FCBarca from birth because of his dad? isn't his mom's last name same as stadium??
Don't remember what's PK's dad professional title at the moment, but he's done a lot of different things throughout the years. In 2011 or 2012, he published a book (I think he did so again later on?) it was one of the first public appearances Shakira and Pique made together (ever since then she was supporting his family). Gerard's maternal grandfather was a Barca director and that's why Gerard was a socio if the team for so many years. And the last name Bernabeu is ironically the same name as the Real Madrid's stadium lol. That's just a funny coincidence though 🤣

Riyadh Saudi League transfers
Many in media like to post when a player rejects money to go to a saudi arabian team. But I think three more strategic topics are
U) Players who are able to play on teams of varying domestic quality before they came
7) RSL or other leagues in the AFC need to spend money on players with a smaller media footprint while a larger responsibility
%) RSL must focus on CAF + Conmebol+ AFC talent.
To U)
When Raul left real madrid for schalke many were surprised but Raul played like a youth player who had to earn his position, even though he was a marquee player. I think players like Koulibaly, like Thomas Mueller, like Moses Simon, like Icardi , like jonathan david , are better for Saudi Arabia to fill their league with nondomestic talent. These players show a balanced quality wherever they play. Things may not go ideally but they never stop playing, they are not hindered when given an opportunity to try. Players like Lewandowski who again, never played on a team like modern barcelona, don't seem to have the ability to be in a squad whose talent is imbalanced or less than a number of teams in the table ,thus a midtable team. If I was an RSL midtable team i would pay 100 million for jonathan david and never even consider lewandowski.
To 7)
Lewandowski in my view doesn't warrant starting for Barca. I think he has been poor this season overall. His media stature and Barca's pride will not lessen his value publicly. But, Roque in my view has warranted more opportunity over lewandowski. What does this have to do with the RSL move. Players like Lewandowski do clubs in RSL a favor by not coming. Al Hilal or Al Nasr do not need Lewandowski. Lewandowski was not going to go to a top four team and that to me is an unadvertised reason why he said no. As benzema is learning with al-ittihad. Benzema being a player who until Al-ittihad never played on a team that wasn't a title contender before he showed up. OL was winning ligue1 titles before him and so was real winning laliga before him. But al-ittihad is a midtable club. And that work has proven a mountain for him. And I am certain it will prove a mountain for lewandowski.
To %)
Even though CR7 came with others from UEFa, overall, most UEFA players have many naysayers about them concerning moving to RSL based purely on cultural bias. As rIo Ferdinand said, very truthfully, the media in UEFA said CR7 betrayed futebol going to RSL but said nothing when Messi went to Inter Miami. And I add, Inter Miami was bottom of the western conference of the complete table. Al Nasr is a top team in the RSL. So the fact that MEssi going to a bottom table team in MLS is not deemed by uefa media as a betrayal of the spirit of futebol but CR7 going to a truly competitive team is deemed by uefa media to be a betryaal to a spirit of futebol , explains the naysayers to players in uefa concerning moves to the RSL. Better forcus on the non uefa players, who make up the true outreach to UEFA from Conmebol/CAF/AFC
