Inktober 2022 No. 28: Goblin King . ”Your eyes can be so cruel…” . The mullet to end all mullets! Who else could make that work besides David Bowie? Another dramatic costume change (though it isn’t really shown here) as Jareth confronts Sarah, who has solved his labyrinth, against all odds. . I feel like I’ve been struggling mightily with faces this month, so this one was kind of an ultimatum — a make-or-break day where I was determined to hit, rather than miss. So this one went well, I think. . LABYRINTH was released this month on Netflix US, in case you want to take your own walk back through the maze to the Goblin City. I recommend it. . 75 minutes, 7.5x11”, @drphmartins Black Star and Pen-White ink with a @speedball_calligraphy 107 nib and @pentelofamerica medium-point black pigment Color Brush on @strathmoreart 400-series watercolor paper. . What I've noticed about 'Sherlock' fandom here and in other places: people who watched it after 2017 (and therefore didn't have to wait two or three years for each season) understand the authors' message better and are in general more open to such interpretation of the original story by Conan Doyle. Which, again, brings me to the conclusion that 'Sherlock' (and particularly its 4 season) is in a way similar to the 'Star Wars' prequels. When they were released, many self-proclaimed 'true' 'Star Wars' fans were complaining how bad these movies were, but after some time came the new generation of fans, who watched all six movies in order 1-6 and not 4-6 and 1-3, and they became the big fans of the prequels, so the whole perception of these movies changed. So I believe it is what would happen - and, actually, is already happening - to 'Sherlock' too.

Bog King did the right thing (hero) for the wrong reasons (villain).
Let's see, so this is the situation.
B.K. he was a villain for being cruel in some actions (being the king of the Dark Forest has nothing to do with it). He did not want love to exist because he believed that love was "dangerous", all this because of what happened to him with his failed love. So he "forbade" love. However, his decision to lock up Sugar Plum and ban love potions really made him a hero for all the wrong reasons.
We don't know if there are more fairies in the Fairy Kingdom with the power to make love potions, however from what we can discover of the character of S.P. she doesn't care about making potions left and right; so prohibiting the creation of love potions really should have been prohibited from the beginning, since it goes against the will of those involved.
Here we have several scenarios to consider.
Since the antidote to the potion is real love, let's assume that:
Scenario 1.
Subject A is in love with subject B, so he/she/they/it uses the love potion. B "falls in love" by an enchantment of A, so that "love" is not real. However, after a while, subject B really falls in love with subject A. So we could say that it was a "win-win", although it would not be fair game. Then maybe B finds out that A used the potion in the beginning, so B would feel the betrayal, with good reason. (There are many sub-scenarios derived from this.)
Scenario 2.
Subject A is in love with subject B, so he/she/they/it uses the love potion. B "falls in love" by an enchantment of A, so that "love" is not real. After some time, B really falls in love with subject C (there are also many things to analyze here, but at this moment we focus on this case). So B decided to stay with C. A would be heartbroken, however that would be the price to pay for playing with someone else's will. We will also have other unfair sub-scenarios for B, psychologically speaking. Perhaps B would feel bad for developing feelings for C, when B believed that he/she/they/it ( XD) loved A. (Other types of showing love that involve more subjects could come into discussion here, but we are not talking about those cases either, not to make them invisible, but because we are talking of the psychological processes of a being who was deceived and manipulated by means of a love potion).
Scenario 3.
Subject A is in love with subject B, so he/she/they/it uses the love potion. B "falls in love" by an enchantment of A, so that "love" is not real. However, time passes and A realizes that h/s/t/i was not really in love with B, or B was not what h/s/t/i thought as a couple, or simply A's "eternal love" was not B. (Ok, again several sub-scenarios come in here , we focus on the fact that A no longer feels the same or what he/she/they/it thought felt about B). However B is still in love with A, either as an effect of the love potion or because h/s/t/i really fell in love with A. Then A tells B that h/s/t/i "doesn't feel that love anymore". Here it would be a doubly unfair situation, since first B was "love-dusted" to make h/s/t/i feel a false love for A, and secondly A leaves him/her/them/it and still B will suffer because "A doesn't love him/her/them/that anymore".
Although there are other scenarios, these three seem very primary to me to describe that, in general, in the end things only go wrong. And while it's mostly wrong for those unscrupulous to want to manipulate someone into generating false love for them, Sugar Plum might decide not to make the potions and still decides to make the potions.
That makes S.P. the villain, although I assume that she was "without understanding" in depth what her actions implied. I guess, unlike B.K., she was a villain wanting to be a hero, but I'll come back to that later.
There are other little things that would make B.K. not exactly the nicest being in the world but, on this situation, really B.K. was a hero for the wrong reasons.
What do you think?
Everybody deserves to be loved!

"IT'S NOT A DIFFICULT FILM TO SYNOPSIZE. IN FACT, IT IS STRAIGHT OUT OF "BUCK ROGERS" AND "FLASH GORDON" BY WAY OF TOLKIEN..."
PIC INFO: Spotlight on an original "STAR WARS" (1977) unused painting by Dan Goozee intended for a SW promo poster.
POSTER OVERVIEW: "This painting is a varation of the final art used for an advertising campaign art from the original 1977 theatrical release of "STAR WARS" was painted by movie poster veteran Daniel Goozee ("Moonraker," "Octopussy," "Clash of the Titans," and "Superman IV")."
-- SCIENCE FICTION ARCHIVES
FILM OVERVIEW: "It’s not a difficult movie to synopsize. In fact, "STAR WARS" is straight out of "Buck Rogers" and "Flash Gordon" by way of Tolkien, "Prince Valiant," "The Wizard of Oz," "Boy’s Life" and about every great western movie ever made. Our hero, Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) is a farmboy from an arid desert planet called Tatooine who suddenly finds himself – through a series of unlikely events – smack in the middle of a galactic civil war. His allies include Han Solo (Harrison Ford), a daredevil space-pilot-for-hire; Ben Obi-Wan Kenobi (Alec Guinness), a mystical old gent who is the last of a group called the Jedi knights, and who knew Luke’s father when; Princess Leia Organa (Carrie Fisher), who is one of the chief rebels opposing the Empire; Chewbacca, the Wookiee, an eight-foot-tall, intelligent and ferocious anthropoid; and two wisecracking robots named Artoo Deetoo and See Threepio (the former speaks android, the latter English) who practically steal the film.
The chief bad guys are Darth Vader (David Prowse) and Grand Moff Tarkin (Peter Cushing), aided by a horde of flunkies and storm troopers. They operate out of the Death Star, an enormous satellite designed specifically to go around the galaxy zapping recalcitrant planets unwilling to side with the Empire. It is clear, early in the film, that confrontations are inevitable. It’s also clear who’s going to win."
-- ROLLING STONE (TV & Film), "George Lucas: The Wizard of "STAR WARS,"" "A conversation with the writer and director, who reveals the voice behind Darth Vader, why robots need love too and where Wookiees come from," c. August 1977

The Lightsaber and Anidala
I made a video essay about the symbolism of the lightsaber. While I don't spend the entire video discussing Anidala, their relationship is tied heavily to the significance of the lightsaber and forms the backbone of the video. Therefore, Anidala fans will find a lot to appreciate here.

Top 5 Movies to watch instead If you were disappointed by Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny
So the latest Indiana Jones Movie was disappointing. Indian Jones and the Dial of Destiny, is not a bad film in any way but it’s just…meh. Which some might argue is worse. The Indian Jones series is all about that sense of adventure and a swashbuckling protagonist fighting against the odds and casually killing people with a cheeky smile. And somehow Indian Jones and the Dial of Destiny just…

hello there!
:-( I’M FED UP!! i’ve been reading comments and opinions on the obi-wan kenobi series and with hayden’s return as anakin/vader i stumbled upon the usual hate and judgment about how he played his character in the prequels. LET ME JUST SAY THAT HAYDEN CHRISTENSEN PLAYED ANAKIN SKYWALKER BETTER THAN ANYONE EVER COULD. HAYDEN IS ANAKIN, HE IS THE CHOSEN ONE AND I’M TIRED OF PEOPLE STILL TALKING ABOUT HOW “BAD THE PREQUELS ARE”. I KNOW THERE ARE SOME SHAKY PARTS BUT DO! NOT! BLAME! IT! ON! HAYDEN! I DON’T WANT TO HEAR ANYONE ELSE SAY HE MADE ANAKIN LOOK DISTANT AND WHINY: THAT’S EXACTLY WHAT ANAKIN SHOULD BE; OR THAT THE “I DON’T LIKE SAND” LINE IS BAD: ANAKIN SKYWALKER WAS BORN ON A SAND PLANET WHERE HE WAS SLAVED, STRIPPED AWAY FROM HIS MOM TO BECOME A JEDI AND THEN LOST HER ON THAT SAME PLANET HE LEFT HER IN, WHERE SHE WAS SLAVED AND BRUTALLY KILLED, SO I THINK THE “I DON’T LIKE SAND” LINE IS UNDERSTANDABLE! OR HOW HE LOOKED “CRINGE” WHEN TALKING TO PADME: ANI HAD NO EXPERIENCE WITH WOMEN WHATSOEVER SO WHAT DO YOU EXPECT HIM TO DO? AND WITH THAT BEING SAID, I ALSO WANT TO ADD THAT STAR WARS IS STAR WARS. I KNOW YOU ALL LOVE TO JUDGE AND HOP ONTO THE “TREND” OF HATING ON THE PREQUELS LIKE EVERYONE ELSE DOES KINDA LIKE A DOMINO EFFECT, BUT I WILL NOT STAND STAR WARS HATE ANYMORE. SO HI, WELCOME! THIS IS A SAFE SPACE FOR FANS WHO TRULY AND DEEPLY LOVE STAR WARS EVEN WITH THE SHAKY PARTS! CAUSE AGAIN! STAR WARS IS STAR WARS!
thank you. and …. sorry i yelled at you.
may the force be with you.

I was thinking how George Lucas' "Star Wars" films are six different movies but at the same time they are united in two trilogies. I believe it's the same with 'Sherlock': we have thirteen different episodes which can be seen as separate movies, but the twelve of them are united in four trilogies, and each has its unique dynamic, plot and meaning.
(Which, in my opinion, makes a 'Sherlock' movie a less fascinating idea, because it would lack this traditional three-piece structure that was one of the key to the show's success in the first place).

Sugar Plum, is she the only one with the power to make love potions?
Ok, the thing is like this.
Twice Sunny talks about it. Firstly he says S.P. is the only one who makes love potions, later he says that she is the "maker" of the love potion. We also hear Griselda reproaches S.P. about her "magic recipe for failure".
Thus, although S.P. "devised" the recipe for the love potions, that doesn't tell us anything about whether she's really the only one with the power to do it. Otherwise B.K. would not "revulse" the primroses and he would not send the goblins to cut them so that no one could make potions, although he had lock up S.P.
But hey, we already know the story and, still being S.P. locked away with no primroses around, Sunny was able to sneak in and request S.P. a potion with a petal he found, but that doesn't mean S.P. is the only one that does magic or that she is the only one that can make a love potion, beyond the fact that "the recipe" was her original creation. (Actually we don't know who in the Dark Forest does magic, but we know that S.P.'s "cage" is magical and more powerful than her, maybe B.K. does magic, but I'll come back to this later).
Are there more fairies, in the Fairy Kingdom, who can make love potions? What other kind of magic can we find in Fairy Kingdom?
All this serves as an introduction to my next post:
Sugar Plum did the wrong thing (villain) for noble reasons (confused hero?)
What do you think?
Everybody deserves to be loved!
